Fusarium head blight (FHB), mainly caused by Fusarium graminearum, is one of the most devastating diseases of wheat globally. FHB causes an extensive reduction in yield and reduces the grain quality through its contamination with Fusarium toxins such as deoxynivalenol (DON), T2 toxin, HT-2 toxin, nivalenol, and zearalenone. This review provides an overview of updated progress of genetic studies on the resistance to FHB, with an emphasis on the sources of resistance to FHB, resistance gene/quantitative trait loci (QTL) mining, resistance gene cloning, major FHB resistance genes/QTL identification by molecular markers, and resistance mechanisms. The achievements of resistance breeding based on phenotype selection and molecular markers was also summarised. Based on the systematic analysis of breeding limitations and utilisation of FHB resistant materials, the authors put forward three suggestions: First, to toughen the resistance identification of wheat, testing traits such as Fusarium damaged kernel and DON need special attention as visual symptoms are less reliable, resistant varieties should be popularised, and the screening the resistant genes should be strengthened; The second is to use the additive effect of quantitative resistance genes accumulated from existing varieties to reduce the cost of resistance in order to create high yielding resistant varieties. Nanocrystalline TiO2 films were fabricated on titanium substrates by compression method. The CdS quantum dots (QDs) were assembled onto the compressed TiO2 layers, which serve as sensitizers. A maximum power conversion efficiency of 4.49% is achieved under 100 mW/cm2 illumination. In this paper, we find that the compression can help increase the efficiency of the cell by increasing the absorption of the CdS QDs and improving the transportation of photogenerated electrons. OBJECTIVE--Using a mouse model for human-like lipoprotein metabolism, we observed previously that reduction of the hepatic triglyceride (TG) content resulted in a decrease in plasma cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) and an increase in HDL levels. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of prolonged caloric restriction in obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, resulting in a major reduction in hepatic TG content, on plasma CETP and HDL levels. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS--We studied 27 obese (BMI: 37.2 ± 0.9 kg/m²) insulin-dependent patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (14 men and 13 women, aged 55 6 2 years) who received a 16-week very low calorie diet (VLCD). At baseline and after a 16-week VLCD, plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and CETP were measured. Furthermore, functionality of HDL with respect to inducing cholesterol efflux from human monocyte cells (THP-1) was determined. RESULTS--A 16-week VLCD markedly decreased plasma CETP concentration (218%; P < 0.01) and increased plasma apolipoprotein (apo)AI levels (+16%; P < 0.05), without significantly affecting plasma HDL-cholesterol and HDL-phospholipids. Although a VLCD results in HDL that is less lipidated, the functionality of HDL with respect to inducing cholesterol efflux in vitro was unchanged. CONCLUSIONS--The marked decrease in hepatic TG content induced by a 16-week VLCD is accompanied by a decrease in plasma CETP concentration an increase in apoAI levels, without improving the cholesterol efflux properties of HDL in vitro. Gram-negative, non-motile, short rod-shaped or spherical bacterial strain that accumulates poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) granules was isolated from the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea. Cells have no polar or subpolar flagella, dividing by binary fission. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain formed a monophyletic branch at the periphery of the evolutionary radiation occupied by the genus Paracoccus, family Rhodobacteraceae, order Rhodobacterales, class Alphaproteobacteria. The closest neighbours were Paracoccus aestuarii strain B7 (97.2% similarity), Paracoccus zeaxanthinifaciens ATCC 21588 (97.1% similarity) and Paracoccus homiensis DD-R11 (96.8%). The predominant fatty acids were C ω7c (82.1%), and significant amounts of C (5.6%), C 3-OH (2.3%) and C (1.5%) were present. The predominant respiratory ubiquinone of strain JLT1284 was Q-10 and the DNA G+C content of strain JLT1284 was 67.0 mol%. The isolate was also distinguishable from members of the genus Paracoccus on the basis of phenotypic and biochemical characteristics. It is evident from the genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data, therefore, that strain JLT1284 represents a novel species of the genus Paracoccus, for which the name Paracoccus beibuensis sp. nov. is proposed. In this work, an N-butyl-pyridinium-based ionic liquid [BPy]BF4 was prepared. The effect of extraction desulfurization on model oil with thiophene and dibenzothiophene (DBT) was investigated. Ionic liquids and hydrogen peroxide (30%) were tested in extraction-oxidation desulfurization of model oil. The results show that the ionic liquid [BPy]BF4 has a better desulfurization effect. The best technological conditions are: V(IL)/V(Oil) /V(H2O2) = 1:1:0.4, temperature 55 °C, the time 30 min. The ratio of desulfurization to thiophene and DBT reached 78.5% and 84.3% respectively, which is much higher than extraction desulfurization with simple ionic liquids. Under these conditions, the effect of desulfurization on gasoline was also investigated. The used ionic liquids can be recycled up to four times after regeneration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) is an emerging virus on watermelon in China. We report here the almost complete nucleotide sequence and the characterization of the genome of a Chinese isolate (CGMMV-LN). Nucleotide sequence comparisons showed CGMMV-LN is closely related to CGMMV-KOM, with 99.4% identity. On the basis of the nucleotide sequence, a digoxigenin-labelled cDNA probe CG, complementary to the replicase gene region of CGMMV was synthesized. The specificity and sensitivity of the probe was tested. The detection limit of the method was equivalent to 0.8 μg fresh tissues infected by CGMMV. Two hundreds and eighteen watermelon samples collected from different regions in China during 2006–2007 were tested by this method. The distribution pattern of CGMMV in China during these years was revealed. The virus has spread in five provinces of China so far, including Liaoning, Hebei, Guangdong, Hubei and Shandong and might be an increasing tendency, which provides important information for CGMMV control in China. A series of fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by impregnating the zeolite with NH4F solution. The samples were characterized by XRD, XRF, FTIR-Py, TPD, 27Al and 29Si MAS-NMR. The effect of calcination temperature on the structure and acidity was studied in the range of 400–500 °C. When the calcination temperature increases, more framework aluminum atoms are removed due to the fluorination. As a result, the number of acid sites and the acid strength decrease, but the ratio of the total Brönsted acid sites to the total Lewis acid sites (BT/LT) increases. The fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts exhibit better stability in the methylation of biphenyl (BP) with methanol. Moreover, the stability increases with the increase of the calcination temperature. When the fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 is calcined at 500 °C, the conversion of BP can keep at about 10% for 50 h. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common and debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that stems from the loss of dopaminergic neurons and is associated with progressive motor dysfunction. Glial cellderived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is very promising for the treatment of PD and other neuropathic diseases. In this study we applied the CRISPR/Cas9 technique to develop a gene-targeting knock-in system for the expression of the human gdnf gene at the bovine β-casein gene locus. A CRISPR/Cas9 expression plasmid and a pP40-GN vector were constructed. Bovine fetal fibroblasts were cultured and collected using the tissue explant method. Then the pP40-GN and CRISPR/Cas9 vectors were electrotransfected into bovine fetal fibroblasts. Resistant clones were selected using G418, while target clones were identified via PCR analyses and PCR product sequencing. Bovine fetal fibroblasts were successfully isolated and cultured using the ear tissue blocking method. After co-transfecting the bovine fetal fibroblasts with the pP40-GN target vector and the CRISPR/Cas9 expression vector in 7 days of selection with G418 a total of 12 healthy and well-separated cell clones were obtained, of which 5 were involved in gene targeting events. This study lays a foundation for the production of human GDNF protein using a gene-targeted bovine mammary gland bioreactor and provides a new strategy for the targeted therapy of PD. Exosomes secreted by the cells is a kind of extracellular vesicles with lipid bilayer structure, containing a variety of cell specific lipid, nucleic acid and protein, involved in intercellular communication, plays an important role in different physiological and pathological process. In recent years, with the deepening of research, the role of exosomes in cardiovascular diseases has received extensive attention. This review summarizes the roles of exosomes and exosome-derived from microRNAs, proteins and DNA as biomarkers in the development of atherosclerosis, and explores the mechanism of exosome-mediated intercellular crosstalk in atherosclerosis, providing potential roles for diagnosis and treatment. Using α-Al2O3, Tb4O7 and CeO2 as raw materials, Tb2.93Al5O12: 0.07Ce3+ yellow phosphors for white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs) are prepared by the high-temperature solid-phase method under a reducing atmosphere. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and fluorescence spectroscopy (PL) are employed to characterize the structure, morphology and photoluminescence properties of the name. The results reveal that the pure Tb3Al5O12 is synthesized under a reducing atmosphere (95% N2 + 5% H2) at 1500 °C (4 h). Under the excitation of blue light with a wavelength of 450 nm, the Tb3Al5O12:Ce3+ exhibited a broadband yellow light emission peak at 553 nm. Also, the color coordinates of Tb3Al5O12:7%Ce3+ are found to be 0.4709 and 0.5175. Overall, the as-prepared yellow phosphor is suitable for w-LEDs under blue light excitations. The development of vaccines, which induce effective immune responses while ensuring safety and affordability, remains a substantial challenge. In this study, we proposed a vaccine model of a restructured "head-to-tail" dimer to efficiently stimulate B cell response. We also demonstrate the feasibility of using this model to develop a paramyxovirus vaccine through a low-cost rice endosperm expression system. Crystal structure and small-angle X-ray scattering data showed that the restructured hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) formed tetramers with fully exposed quadruple receptor binding domains and neutralizing epitopes. In comparison with the original HN antigen and three traditional commercial whole virus vaccines, the restructured HN facilitated critical epitope exposure and initiated a faster and more potent immune response. Two-dose immunization with 0.5 µg of the restructured antigen (equivalent to one-127th of a rice grain) and one-dose with 5 µg completely protected chickens against a lethal challenge of the virus. These results demonstrate that the restructured HN from transgenic rice seeds is safe, effective, low-dose useful, and inexpensive. The Rac1-WAVE-Arp2/3 pathway pushes the plasma membrane by polymerizing branched actin, thereby powering membrane protrusions that mediate cell migration. Here, using knockdown (KD) or knockout (KO), we combine the inactivation of the Arp2/3 inhibitory protein arpin, the Arp2/3 subunit ARPC1A and the WAVE complex subunit CYFIP2, all of which enhance the polymerization of cortical branched actin. Inactivation of the three negative regulators of cortical branched actin increases migration persistence of human breast MCF10A cells and of endodermal cells in the zebrafish embryo, significantly more than any single or double inactivation. In the triple KO cells, but not in triple KD cells, the 'super-migrator' phenotype was associated with a heterogenous downregulation of vimentin (VIM) expression and a lack of coordination in collective behaviors, such as wound healing and acinus morphogenesis. Re-expression of vimentin in triple KO cells largely restored normal persistence of single cell migration, suggesting that vimentin downregulation contributes to the maintenance of the super-migrator phenotype in triple KO cells. Since 2015, severe hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome (HHS) associated with a novel fowl adenovirus 4 (FAdV-4) has emerged in China, representing a new challenge for the poultry industry. Although various highly pathogenic FAdV-4 strains have been isolated, the virulence factor and the pathogenesis of novel FAdV-4 are unclear. In our previous studies, we reported that a large genomic deletion (1,966 bp) is not related to increased virulence. Here, two recombinant chimeric viruses, rHN20 strain and rFB2 strain, were generated from a highly pathogenic FAdV-4 strain by replacing the hexon or fiber-2 gene of a nonpathogenic FAdV-4, respectively. Both chimeric strains showed similar titers to the wild-type strain in vitro. Notably, rFB2 and the wild-type strain induced 100% mortality, while no mortality or clinical signs appeared in chickens inoculated with rHN20, indicating that hexon, but not fiber-2, determines the novel FAdV-4 virulence. Furthermore, an R188I mutation in the hexon protein identified residue 188 as the key amino acid for the reduced pathogenicity. The rR188I mutant strain was significantly neutralized by chicken serum in vitro and in vivo, whereas the wild-type strain was able to replicate efficiently. Finally, the immunogenicity of the rescued rR188I was investigated. Nonpathogenic rR188I provided full protection against lethal FAdV-4 challenge. Collectively, these findings provide an in-depth understanding of the molecular basis of novel FAdV-4 pathogenicity and present rR188I as a potential live attenuated vaccine candidate or a novel vaccine vector for HHS vaccines. Interface design is an efficient way to improve the steam generation performance of solar evaporators. Accompanied with the formation of cellulose nanofiber/polylactic acid/polyaniline (PANI) hybrid aerogel (HA) by Pickering emulsion and in situ polymerization, this paper proposes a new perspective of hierarchical interface design strategy to accelerate the water evaporation driven by solar energy. By changing the concentration and type of doped acid, the distribution gap of different PANI forms in HA can be microscopically designed. PANI nanoclusters with smaller gaps facilitate HA to achieve an improved light absorption, photothermal conversion capability and steam generation rate. Moreover, macro interface design introduces hemispherical depression structures to the HA surface through a simple mold. These recessed surfaces not only increase the light absorption by increasing the multiple reflections and refractions of light on the recesses, but also recover part of the heat radiation loss to the environment. A higher evaporation rate of 1.65 kg m-2 h-1 with a steam generation efficiency of 94.6% is achieved under the irradiation of 1 Sun (100 mw cm-2). We present the evolution of the phase lags associated with the type-C QPO in GX 339–4 during the rising phase of the 2006/2007 outburst. We find that the phase lags at the QPO frequency are always positive (hard) and show very different behavior between QPOs with frequencies below and above ∼1.7 Hz: when the QPO frequency is below ∼1.7 Hz, the phase lags increase both with QPO frequency and energy, while when the QPO frequency is above ∼1.7 Hz, the phase lags remain more or less constant. When the QPO frequency is higher than ∼1.7 Hz, a broad feature is always present in the lag–energy spectra at around 6.5 keV, suggesting that the reflection component may have a significant contribution to the phase lags. Below ∼1.7 Hz, the QPO rms first decreases with energy and then turns to almost flat, while above ∼1.7 Hz, the QPO rms increases with energy. During the transition from the low-hard state to the hard-intermediate state, the second harmonic and subharmonic of this QPO appear in the power density spectra. The second-harmonic and subharmonic phase lags show very similar evolutions for their centroid frequencies. However, the energy dependence of the second-harmonic and subharmonic phase lags are quite different. Our results suggest that, at different phases of the outburst, different mechanisms may be responsible for the phase lags of the QPO. We briefly discuss the possible scenarios for producing the lags. Neuroimaging studies have demonstrated that reward system is associated with chronic pain diseases. In addition, previous studies have also demonstrated abnormal functional and structural brain regions in primary dysmenorrhea. However, the relation of reward system and primary dysmenorrhea is still unknown. Using the resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging, we aimed to investigate the functional connectivity changes of reward system during periovulatory phase in primary dysmenorrhea. Forty-one primary dysmenorrhea patients and 39 matched female healthy controls participated in this study. Compared to healthy controls, primary dysmenorrhea patients showed decreased connectivity of left nucleus accumbens with the bilateral anterior insula and the left amygdala and decreased connectivity of right nucleus accumbens with ventral tegmental area, the left hippocampus, the right orbital frontal cortex, and the right anterior insula. In addition, the decreased functional connectivity between the right nucleus accumbens-ventral tegmental area negatively correlated with the level of prostaglandin F2 alpha. Our findings provide neuroimaging evidence in support of the abnormal reward system connectivity in primary dysmenorrhea patients, which might contribute to a better understanding of the cerebral pathophysiology of primary dysmenorrhea. Due to the lack of drilling data and poor quality of seismic data in deep-water offshore areas, conventional methods cannot effectively predict the total organic carbon (TOC) content. In this paper, the BP neural network method is used to predict the TOC of the strata overlying the target layer, which adds to the TOC information in the study area. Then, the highest TOC value of the strata overlying the target layer is used to select the most sensitive seismic attributes. Finally, the sensitive seismic attributes are used to evaluate the source rocks with no or few wells. A set of TOC prediction technology flows is established for TOC combined with seismic attributes under the condition of no wells and few wells in deep-water areas. The application example shows the reliability of TOC prediction by this technical process, and the study has a certain reference significance for the evaluation of hydrocarbon source rocks in offshore deep water. Objective • To investigate the factors influencing lesion recurrence during the follow-up after cervical conization and evaluate the clinical value of human papillomavirus (HPV) testing and thinprep cytology test (TCT) in postoperative follow-up patients undergoing cervical conization. Methods • A total of 289 patients with cervical lesions who underwent primary cervical conization at our hospital between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019, were included in this study. TCT, HPV testing, and colposcopy were performed every 6 months for a follow-up period of 3 years. Based on the follow-up results, the patients were divided into recurrence and non-recurrence groups. The basic and colposcopic data of the two groups were analyzed to identify factors influencing lesion recurrence. Additionally, the clinical value of HPV testing and TCT in postoperative follow-up and recurrence diagnosis of patients undergoing cervical conization was assessed. Results • The recurrence group showed significantly higher age of onset, concurrent rate of other chronic diseases, and parity, as well as a markedly lower barrier contraceptive rate compared to the non-recurrence group, with statistically significant differences (P < .05). In the recurrence group, the type III transformation zone (TZ) predominated (59.26%), which significantly differed from the non-recurrence group (P < .05). The detection rates of abnormal TCT findings and HPV infections in postoperative reexaminations were significantly higher in the recurrence group compared to the non-recurrence group (P < .05), whereas no significant differences were observed between the two groups before cervical conization (P > .05). Among the recurrence group (n = 54), 52 cases (96.3%) had HPV infections, and 29 cases (53.7%) had abnormal TCT findings, with a significantly higher detection rate for HPV infections (P < .05). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) for HPV testing, TCT, and combined HPV testing with TCT after cervical conization were 0.861, 0.712, and 0.882, respectively. These results indicate that HPV testing alone performs similarly to combined HPV testing with TCT and significantly outperforms TCT alone in predicting lesion recurrence after cervical conization. Conclusions • Factors influencing lesion recurrence after cervical conization include patient age, barrier contraceptive rate, concurrent rate of other chronic diseases, parity, and type of transformation zone. HPV testing alone is more sensitive and accurate than TCT in predicting lesion recurrence during postoperative followup of patients undergoing cervical conization. Antibiotic resistance is driven by selection, but the degree to which a bacterial strain’s evolutionary history shapes the mechanism and strength of resistance remains an open question. Here, we reconstruct the genetic and evolutionary mechanisms of carbapenem resistance in a clinical isolate of Klebsiella quasipneumoniae. A combination of short- and long-read sequencing, machine learning, and genetic and enzymatic analyses established that this carbapenem-resistant strain carries no carbapenemase-encoding genes. Genetic reconstruction of the resistance phenotype confirmed that two distinct genetic loci are necessary in order for the strain to acquire carbapenem resistance. Experimental evolution of the carbapenem-resistant strains in growth conditions without the antibiotic revealed that both loci confer a significant cost and are readily lost by de novo mutations resulting in the rapid evolution of a carbapenem-sensitive phenotype. To explain how carbapenem resistance evolves via multiple, low-fitness single-locus intermediates, we hypothesised that one of these loci had previously conferred adaptation to another antibiotic. Fitness assays in a range of drug concentrations show how selection in the antibiotic ceftazidime can select for one gene (blaDHA-1) potentiating the evolution of carbapenem resistance by a single mutation in a second gene (ompK36). These results show how a patient’s treatment history might shape the evolution of antibiotic resistance and could explain the genetic basis of carbapenem-resistance found in many enteric-pathogens. Taking advantage of the high selectivity of aptamers and enzyme-free catalyzed hairpin assembly (CHA) amplification strategy, we herein describe a label-free and enzyme-free sensitive fluorescent and colorimetric strategy for thrombin detection in this paper. In the presence of target, the corresponding aptamer of the partial dsDNA probes will bind to the target and liberate the initiation strand, which is artfully designed as the “on” switch for hairpin assembly. Moreover, the displaced initiation strand partakes in a multi-cycle process and produces numerous G-quadruplexes, which have a remarkable enhancement in fluorescent/colorimetric signal from NMM (N-methyl-mesoporphyrin IX) and TMB (3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine), respectively. The proposed amplification strategy for thrombin detection is of high sensitivity, down to 2.4 pM, and also achieves colorimetric signals that are able to be distinguished by naked eye. More importantly, the thermodynamics of interacting DNA strands used in our work, and the process of toehold strand displacement-driven assembly are simulated before biological testing, verifying the feasibility theoretically, and simplifying the subsequent actual experiments. Flowering time is a key agronomic trait that directly affect the adaptation and yield of soybean. After whole genome duplications, about 75% of genes being represented by multiple copies in soybean. There are four TERMINAL FLOWER 1 (TFL1) genes in soybean, and the TFL1b (Dt1) has been characterized as the determinant of stem growth habit. The function of other TFL1 homologs in soybean is still unclear. Here, we generated knockout mutants by CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology and found that the tfl1c/tfl1d double mutants flowered significantly earlier than wild-type plants. We investigated that TFL1c and TFL1d could physically interact with the bZIP transcription factor FDc1 and bind to the promoter of APETALA1a (AP1a). RNA-seq and qRT-PCR analyses indicated that TFL1c and TFL1d repressed the expressions of the four AP1 homologs and delayed the flowering time in soybean. The two genes play important roles in the regulation of flowering time in soybean and mainly act as the flowering inhibitors under long-day conditions. The first high-performance electroactive benzoxazine with an aniline dimer in its structure has been synthesized from 4-aminodiphenylamine (aniline dimer), paraformaldehyde, and phenol. FT-IR and 1H NMR are used to characterize the molecular structure of the electroactive benzoxazine monomer (PH-BA). The reversible one-electron transfer between the neutral form and the radical-cation form takes place in the redox reaction of PH-BA and its corresponding polymer (pPH-BA). The pPH-BA exhibits oxidation and reduction currents of 0.122 and 0.128 mA cm-2, respectively, which are higher than the published benzoxazine/ aniline oliogomer blend. The current value of the redox peaks of pPH-BA doubles when compared with PH-BA, which might be attributed to the formation of the electron-donating hydroxyl groups during the thermally induced ring-opening polymerization and the hydrogen bonding interactions between phenolic-OH groups and aniline units in pPH-BA network. Studies on the mechanism of protein phosphorylation and therapeutic interventions of its related molecular processes are limited by the difficulty in the production of purpose-built phosphoproteins harboring site-specific phosphorylated amino acids or their nonhydrolyzable analogs. Here we address this limitation by customizing the cell-free protein synthesis (CFPS) machinery via chassis strain selection and orthogonal translation system (OTS) reconfiguration screening. The suited chassis strains and reconfigured OTS combinations with high orthogonality were consequently picked out for individualized phosphoprotein synthesis. Specifically, we synthesized the sfGFP protein and MEK1 protein with site-specific phosphoserine (O-pSer) or its nonhydrolyzable analog, 2-amino-4-phosphonobutyric acid (C-pSer). This study successfully realized building cell-free systems for site-specific incorporation of phosphonate mimics into the target protein. Analogues of the hepatokine fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) are in clinical development for type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) treatment. Although their glucose-lowering and insulin-sensitizing effects have been largely unraveled, the mechanisms by which they alleviate liver injury have only been scarcely addressed. Here, we aimed to unveil the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of FGF21 on NASH using APOE*3-Leiden. CETP mice, a well-established model for human-like metabolic diseases. Liver-specific FGF21 overexpression was achieved in mice, followed by administration of a high-fat high-cholesterol diet for 23 weeks. FGF21 prevented hepatic lipotoxicity, accompanied by activation of thermogenic tissues and attenuation of adipose tissue inflammation, improvement of hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia, and upregulation of hepatic programs involved in fatty acid oxidation and cholesterol removal. Furthermore, FGF21 inhibited hepatic inflammation, as evidenced by reduced Kupffer cell (KC) activation, diminished monocyte infiltration, and lowered accumulation of monocyte-derived macrophages. Moreover, FGF21 decreased lipid- and scar-associated macrophages, which correlated with less hepatic fibrosis as demonstrated by reduced collagen accumulation. Collectively, hepatic FGF21 overexpression limits hepatic lipotoxicity, inflammation, and fibrogenesis. Mechanistically, FGF21 blocks hepatic lipid influx and accumulation through combined endocrine and autocrine signaling, respectively, which prevents KC activation and lowers the presence of lipid- and scar-associated macrophages to inhibit fibrogenesis. In order to solve the problem of high broken rate and impurity rate in the direct harvesting of corn kernels in China, a flexible threshing element with variable stiffness consisting of a conical spring and rasp bar was developed on the basis of the existing horizontal axial-flow corn threshing cylinder structure to achieve low loss harvesting of corn kernels. Through mechanical analysis of the key components of the threshing element, its structure and operating parameters were determined. Then, orthogonal tests were carried out using the feed amount, threshing clearance and cylinder speed as the test factors, and the broken rate and impurity rate of the corn kernels as the test indicators. The results showed that the feed amount, threshing clearance and cylinder speed had a significant effect on the broken rate and impurity rate of corn kernels; the optimum parameters for the corn variable stiffness flexible threshing device were feed amount 6.1 kg·s-1, threshing clearance 40 mm and cylinder speed 392 r·min-1. The broken rate of corn kernels was 1.67% and impurity rate 1.03%. The test results fully met the requirements of the national standards for corn harvesting operations. Background: Tracking targets of natural products is one of the most challenging issues in fields ranging from pharmacognosy to biomedicine. It is widely recognized that the biocompatible nanoparticle (NP) could function as a 'key' that opens the target 'lock'. Results: We report a functionalized poly-lysine NP technique that can monitor the target protein of arctigenin (ATG) in vivo non-invasively. The NPs were synthesized, and their morphologies and surface chemical properties were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser particle size analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, we studied the localization of ATG at the level of the cell and the whole animal (zebrafish and mice). We demonstrated that fluorescent NPs could be ideal carriers in the development of a feasible method for target identification. Metabolic engineering of Rhodosporidium toruloides, a robust lipid and caroteinoid producer, is of great importance for oleochemicals and carotenoids production. However, the Agrobacterium-mediated gene transformation is tedious and time consuming. Here, we described a fast and efficient genetic transformation of R. toruloides using electroporation with linear DNA fragments, and the process was optimized. The results showed that 2 × 10³ transformants can be obtained at 0.7 kV/µg linear DNA by using hygromycin and bleomycin as selection markers after the competent cells pretreated with 25 mM DTT and 100 mM LiAc. Our results would facilitate mutant library construction and metabolic engineering of R. toruloides for production of oleochemicals and carotenoids. The present study was to investigate the effects of toll-like receptor 4 on transplanted bone marrow stem cells in the ischemic brain. Focal cerebral ischemia was induced by permanent occlusion of middle cerebral artery in toll-like receptor 4 gene knockout mice and wild type control mice. Bone marrow stem cells were injected into lateral cerebral ventricle. The cylinder tests, in vivo image, polymerase chain reaction array, etc. were applied to evaluate the neurological function and the underlying mechanisms. On the 10th d after permanent occlusion of middle cerebral artery, the ratio of right limb movement in group 1 was significantly higher than that in wild type and toll-like receptor 4 gene knockout mice without injection of bone marrow stem cells (p<0.05). In vivo imaging showed that on the 3rd d after injection of bone marrow stem cells, the fluorescence intensities in group 3 and group 1 were significantly enhanced compared with that on the 1st d and 7th d. There were more green fluorescent protein positive cells in group 3 and group 1 compared with sham controls (p<0.05). Amount of green fluorescent protein positive cells in group 1 was significantly higher compared with group 3. In toll-like receptor 4 gene knockout mice, bone morphogenetic protein 2 messenger ribonucleic acid and fibroblast growth factor 9 messenger ribonucleic acid were up-regulated and interleukin-1-beta protein was decreased, compared with wild type mice. The present study firstly demonstrated that toll-like receptor 4 deficiency further increased the amount of intracerebroventricularly injected bone marrow stem cells in ischemic brain areas, thereby improved neurological function after focal cerebral infarction. This paper presents the characteristics of underwater electrical wire explosion (UEWE) with three discharge types, namely, Type-A, Type-B, and Type-C. Experiments were carried out with copper and tungsten wires (4 cm long and 50-300üm in diameter) driven by a microsecond time-scale pulsed current source with 500 J stored energy. A time-integrated spectrometer and a photodiode were used to measure the optical emission of UEWE. A Polyvinylidene Fluoride probe was adopted to record the pressure waveforms. Experimental results indicate that from Type-A to Type-C, more energy deposits prior to the voltage peak and the first peak power increases drastically. This variation of energy deposition influences the optical emission and shock wave generation process. Specifically, the light intensity decreases by more than 90% and the peak of continuous spectra moves from ~400 nm to ~700 nm. This paper reports on the investigation of the electrically controlled multifocus, multi-imaging characteristics of an on-axis holographic polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal (H-PDLC) Fresnel lens. The Fresnel lens is examined within a PDLC cell through the analysis of interference fringes generated by on-axis plane and spherical waves. Experiments are conducted to investigate the multifocus and multi-imaging phenomena of the H- PDLC Fresnel lens, and a corresponding geometrical optical analysis is also provided. It is then demonstrated that the H-PDLC Fresnel lens is a plane-surface diffractive optical device which modulates the phase of incident light through a periodic change of refractive index and forms multiple symmetrical images. It is a generally accepted method to synthesize the monodisperse NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+ with uniform size and shape by using oleic acid (OA) as surfactant or solvent. However, the obtained oleate-capped up-conversion nanoparticles NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+ (Ln-UCNPs, Ln = Yb3+, Er3+) have inherent hydrophobia properties, which should be processed by complicated post-treatments to render them water dispersible before used in biomedicine. Herein, we introduce a facile approach, ultrasonic separation, to obtain water-soluble and ligand-free Ln-UCNPs by analyzing the capping effect between Ln3+ and the carboxy group of oleate anions. After ultrasonic separation, the ligand-free of Ln-UCNPs disperse in water and ethanol easily, which are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and zeta potential. Background Indian hedgehog (Ihh) signaling pathway is known to play key roles in various aspects of normal endochondral bone development. This study tested the potential roles of high Ihh signaling in the context of injury-induced bone regeneration. Methods A rabbit tibia defect model was established to test the effects of the implant of Ihh/mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)/scaffold complex. Computed tomography (CT), gross observation, and standard histological and immunohistological techniques were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. In vitro studies with MSCs and C3H10T1/2 cells were also employed to further understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms. Results We found that the implanted Ihh/MSCs/scaffold complex promoted bone repair. Consistently, in vitro study found that Ihh induced the upregulation of chondrocytic, osteogenic, or vascular cell markers, both in C3H10T1/2 cells and MSCs. Conclusions Our study has demonstrated that high Ihh signaling in a complex with MSCs enhanced bone regeneration effectively in a clinically relevant acute injury model. Even though the exact underlying mechanisms are still far from clear, our primary data suggested that enhanced chondrogenesis, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis of MSCs at least partially contribute to the process. This study not only has implications for basic research of MSCs and Ihh signaling pathway but also points to the possibility of direct application of this specific paradigm to clinical bone repair. Amber suppression has been widely used to incorporate unnatural amino acids (UNAAs) with unique structures or functional side-chain groups into specific sites of the target protein, which expands the scope of protein-coding chemistry. However, this traditional strategy does not allow multiple-site incorporation of different UNAAs into a single protein, which limits the development of unnatural proteins. To address this challenge, the suppression method using multiple termination codons (TAG, TAA or TGA) was proposed, and cell-free unnatural protein synthesis (CFUPS) system was employed. By the analysis of incorporating 3 different UNAAs (p-propargyloxy-Lphenylalanine, p-azyl-phenylalanine and L-4-Iodophenylalanine) and mass spectrometry, the simultaneous usage of the codons TAG and TAA were suggested for better multiple-site UNAA incorporation. The CFUPS conditions were further optimized for better UNAA incorporation efficiency, including the orthogonal translation system (OTS) components, magnesium ions, and the redox environment. This study established a CFUPS approach based on multiple termination codon suppression to achieve efficient and precise incorporation of different types of UNAAs, thereby synthesizing unnatural proteins with novel physicochemical functions. Background: Our study aimed to explore the prognostic value of the aspartate aminotransferase–platelet ratio index (APRI) and to develop a new nomogram for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who experience late recurrence after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). To date, no study has explored the value of APRI for assessing the late recurrence of HCC after RFA. Materials and Methods: The prognostic value of APRI was evaluated and validated in our multicenter retrospective analysis. A total of 466 HCC patients undergoing RFA were reviewed as a training cohort, and 234 HCC patients were included in the external validation cohort. The nomogram was built based on significant prognostic factors in a multivariate analysis and validated in the external validation cohort. Results: The cutoff APRI score was 0.78, and it appropriately discriminated between low- and high-risk groups for late recurrence in HCC patients. The cumulative recurrence-free survival rates of the lowrisk group were significantly higher than those of the high-risk group (p < 0.001), according to the Kaplan–Meier curves. Late recurrence in HCC patients after RFA was associated with APRI, sex and multiple tumors. The nomogram based on potential risk factors (APRI score, sex and multiple tumors) as indicated by multivariate Cox regression analysis showed good discrimination and calibration in the training and external verification groups. Conclusions: The APRI score is a feasible independent prognostic factor for the late recurrence of HCC after RFA. The morphological structure of the metathoracic scent glands (MTGs) in Adelphocoris suturalis was observed by utilizing scanning electron microscope (SEM). Also, the secretions of MTGs in male and female were analyzed by using gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The result showed that the MTGs comprised a reservoir and paired lateral glands, which are connected to a reservoir by duct. The MTGs belong to the diastomian type. A usually depressed channel extends from opening downward the middle of metathorax, a tongue-like structure was covered by bristles and mushroom-shaped cuticular structures, known as evaporative area. In GC-MS investigation, differences were found in quantitative or qualitative compositions of the substances between the two sexes. In our study, hexyl butyrate was the most abundant compound in the MTGs of A. suturalis, comprising ~85% of total secretions in both female and male, respectively. 4-oxo-(E)-2-hexenal (5.22%) was the second most abundant compound in female MTGs secretions, whereas octacosane (2.42%) followed hexyl butyrate in male MTGs secretions. Pure and mixed lanthanum and cerium oxides were synthesized via a reverse microemulsion-templated route. This approach yields highly homogeneous and phase-stable mixed oxides with high surface areas across the entire range of La:Ce ratios from pure lanthana to pure ceria. Surprisingly, all mixed oxides show the fluorite crystal structure of ceria, even for lanthanum contents as high as 90%. Varying the La:Ce ratio not only allows tailoring of the oxide morphology (lattice parameter, pore structure, particle size, and surface area), but also results in a fine-tuning of the reducibility of the oxide which can be explained by the creation of oxygen vacancies in the ceria lattice upon La addition. Such finely controlled syntheses, which enable the formation of stable, homogeneous mixed oxides across the entire composition range, open the path towards functional tailoring of oxide materials, such as rational catalyst design via fine-tuning of redox activity. Background: The assessment of retroperitoneal lymph node status in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer is still a problem. This study aimed to explore the choice of these assessment methods.Methods: Laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy was performed in 96 patients with advanced cervical cancer. The positive rates of lymph node metastasis were analyzed. The values of computed tomography lymph node minimum axial diameter (MAD) and squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), and their combination in predicting retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis were compared. High-risk factors for common iliac lymph node (CILN) and/or para-aortic lymph node (PALN) metastasis were analyzed.Results: The lymph node metastasis rate was 62.50% and the CILN and/or PALN metastasis rate was 31.25%. Overall, 96 patients had 172 visible lymph nodes. The positive rate of lymph node metastasis was significantly higher in the MAD ≥1.0 cm group (83.33%) than in the 0.5 cm ≤ MAD < 1.0 cm group (26.82%). The critical values of MAD and SCC-Ag in determining lymph node metastasis were 1.0 cm and 5.2 ng/mL, respectively. The accuracy, specificity, and Youden index of MAD ≥1.0 cm combined with SCC-Ag ≥ 5.2 ng/mL for evaluating lymph node metastasis were 75.71%, 100%, and 0.59, respectively, and were significantly different from the values for the MAD ≥1.0 cm (72.09%, 80.56%, and 0.47, respectively) and SCC-Ag ≥ 5.2 ng/mL (71.43%, 68.97%, and 0.42, respectively) groups. Correlation analysis showed that non-squamous cell carcinoma, pelvic lymph node (PLN) MAD ≥1.0 cm plus number ≥ 2, and 1 PLN MAD ≥1.0 cm with CILN and/or PALN MAD 0.5-1.0 cm were risk factors for CILN and/or PALN metastasis.Conclusion: Patients with MAD ≥1.0 cm and SCC-Ag ≥ 5.2 ng/mL, as well as high risk factors for CILN and/or PALN metastasis, should undergo resection of enlarged lymph nodes below the common iliac gland and lymphadenectomy of CILN/PALN to reduce tumor burden and to clarify lymph node metastasis status for accurate guidance in follow-up treatment. The aorta and the large conductive arteries are immunoprivileged tissues and are protected against inflammatory attack. A breakdown of immunoprivilege leads to autoimmune vasculitis, such as giant cell arteritis, in which CD8+ Treg cells fail to contain CD4+ T cells and macrophages, resulting in the formation of tissue-destructive granulomatous lesions. Here, we report that the molecular defect of malfunctioning CD8+ Treg cells lies in aberrant NOTCH4 signaling that deviates endosomal trafficking and minimizes exosome production. By transcriptionally controlling the profile of RAB GTPases, NOTCH4 signaling restricted vesicular secretion of the enzyme NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2). Specifically, NOTCH4hiCD8+ Treg cells increased RAB5A and RAB11A expression and suppressed RAB7A, culminating in the accumulation of early and recycling endosomes and sequestering of NOX2 in an intracellular compartment. RAB7AloCD8+ Treg cells failed in the surface translocation and exosomal release of NOX2. NOTCH4hiRAB5AhiRAB7AloRAB11AhiCD8+ Treg cells left adaptive immunity unopposed, enabling a breakdown in tissue tolerance and aggressive vessel wall inflammation. Objective: Mesenchymal subtype of glioblastoma (mesGBM) is a refractory disease condition characterized by therapeutic failure and tumor recurrence. Hyperactive transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling could be a signature event in mesGBM, which leads to dysregulation of downstream targets and contribute to malignant transformation. In this study we aimed to investigate the hyperactive TGFβ signaling-mediated pathogenesis and possible downstream targets for the development of novel therapeutic interventions for mesGBM. Methods: GBM-BioDP is an online resource for accessing and displaying interactive views of the TCGA GBM data set. Transcriptomic sequencing followed by bioinformatic analysis was performed to identify dysregulated microRNAs. Target prediction by MR-microT and dual luciferase reporter assay were utilized to confirm the predicted target of novel_miR56. CCK-8 assays was used to assesse cell viability. The miRNA manipulation was proceeded by cell transfection and lentivirus delivery. A plasmid expressing GFP-LC3 was introduced to visualize the formation of autophagosomes. Orthotopic GBM model was constructed for in vivo study. Results: TGFβ1 and TGFβ receptor type II (TβRII) were exclusively upregulated in mesGBM (P < 0.01). Dysregulated miRNAs were identified after LY2109761 (a TβRI/II inhibitor) treatment in a mesGBM-derived cell line, and novel_miR56 was selected as a promising candidate for further functional verification. Novel_miR56 was found to potentially bind to PRAS40 via seed region complementarity in the 3' untranslated region, and we also confirmed that PRAS40 is a direct target of novel_miR56 in glioma cells. In vitro, over expression of novel_miR56 in tumor cells significantly promoted proliferation and inhibited autophagy (P < 0.05). The expression levels of P62/SQSTM was significantly increased accompanied by the decrease of BECN1 and LC3B-II/I, which indicated that autophagic activity was reduced after novel_miR56 treatment. In addition, over expression of novel_miR56 also promoted tumor growth and inhibited autophagy in vivo, which is associated with worse prognosis (P < 0.05). Previously, we identified plasma microRNA (miR) profiles that associate with markers of microvascular injury in patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, miRs circulate in extracellular vesicles (EVs) or in association with HDL or the RNA-binding protein argonaute-2 (Ago-2). Given that the EV- and HDL-mediated miR transfer toward endothelial cells (ECs) regulates cellular quiescence and inflammation, we hypothesized that the distribution of miRs among carriers affects microvascular homeostasis in DN. Therefore, we determined the miR expression in EV, HDL, and Ago-2 fractions isolated from EDTA plasma of healthy control subjects, patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) with or without early DN (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] >30 mL/min/1.73 m2), and patients with DN (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m2). Consistent with our hypothesis, we observed alterations in miR carrier distribution in plasma of patients with DM and DN compared with healthy control subjects. Both miR-21 and miR-126 increased in EVs of patients with DN, whereas miR-660 increased in the Ago-2 fraction and miR-132 decreased in the HDL fraction. Moreover, in vitro, differentially expressed miRs improved EC barrier formation (EV-miR-21) and rescued the angiogenic potential (HDL-miR-132) of ECs cultured in serum from patients with DM and DN. In conclusion, miR measurement in EVs, HDL, and Ago-2 may improve the biomarker sensitivity of these miRs for microvascular injury in DN, while carrier-specific miRs can improve endothelial barrier formation (EV-miR-21/126) or exert a proangiogenic response (HDL-miR-132). Targeting metabolism through bioactive key metabolites is an upcoming future therapeutic strategy. We questioned how modifying intracellular lipid metabolism could be a possible means for alleviating inflammation. Using a recently developed chemical probe (SH42), we inhibited distal cholesterol biosynthesis through selective inhibition of Δ24-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR24). Inhibition of DHCR24 led to an antiinflammatory/proresolving phenotype in a murine peritonitis model. Subsequently, we investigated several omics layers in order to link our phenotypic observations with key metabolic alterations. Lipidomic analysis revealed a significant increase in endogenous polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) biosynthesis. These data integrated with gene expression analysis, revealing increased expression of the desaturase Fads6 and the key proresolving enzyme Alox-12/15. Protein array analysis, as well as immune cell phenotype and functional analysis, substantiated these results confirming the antiinflammatory/proresolving phenotype. Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine whether pathogenic mutations were present in families with mitochondrial cardiomyopathy that presented during adolescence. Methods: The proband was a 21-year-old man who presented clinically with palpitations, chest tightness, pulmonary hypertension, and limited exercise tolerance. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging studies showed biventricular cardiac hypertrophy. We determine whether pathogenic mutations were present by whole-exome sequencing (WES) in families. Results: Screening of the family using tandem mass spectrometry showed elevated lactic acid levels, glutaric aciduria, a mildly increased glutarylcarnitine-to-octanoylcarnitine ratio, and normal blood α-glucosidase, which was consistent with a respiratory chain complex 1 metabolic disorder. We identified a novel mutation of MT-ND5, c.1315A>G (p.Thr439Ala). Skeletal muscle biopsy histology showed predominantly ragged red fibers and few ragged blue fibers, which was consistent with mitochondrial myopathy. Heat stress (HS) causes significant economic losses and has become a continual challenge in the dairy industry worldwide. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a dietary supplement on milk performance and immune function in late-lactation cows under HS conditions. The supplement was a fermented Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) mixture consisting of 18 herbs. Forty lactating Holstein cows (560 ± 51.0 kg of initial BW, 230 ± 10.0 DIM, 16 ± 3.0 kg of milk per day) were randomly assigned into 4 treatment groups (10 cows per group). Each group was fed a dietary supplemented with 0, 25, 50, or 100 g CHMs per cow per day. Cows were housed at high ambient temperature-humidity index (average 74.5) for an experimental period of 42 d during the summer months. Milk yield, composition, immune responses involving blood lymphocyte apoptosis rate, serum biochemical parameters, and genes expression in lymphocytes were evaluated on days 14, 28, and 42, respectively. Results showed that milk yield, milk fat, and protein content were greater (all P < 0.05) for 50 or 100 g/d CHMs compared with the group without CHMs supplements throughout the experimental period. On the other hand, increasing CHMs dose demonstrated a greater lymphocyte or leukocyte count (P < 0.01). By flow cytometry analysis, early or late apoptosis rate of the lymphocytes was decreased (P < 0.05) by CHMs supplements. The immunity-related biochemistry and genes transcript responses involving cytokines (IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-12), apoptosis (Bak, Mcl-1, Bax, Bcl-2, Bcl-xl, and P53), and immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, and IgM) were investigated. Compared with the unsupplemented group, the serum IL-2 and IL-6 levels, as well as IL-2 mRNA expression, increased (P < 0.05) for 100 g/d. However, the serum IL-1 level tended to decrease (P = 0.08) with increasing CHMs dose, and IL-1 mRNA expression was down-regulated (P = 0.02) by up to 24% for 100 g/d. Additionally, the serum Bax level decreased (P < 0.01) and Bcl-2 level increased (P = 0.01) for 100 g/d. Bax and Bak mRNA expressions were down-regulated (P < 0.05), and Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl expression were up-regulated (P < 0.05) for 50 or 100 g/d. The mRNA expressions of P53 and Mcl-1 were not affected by CHMs (P > 0.10). Besides, serum IgG levels were greater (P < 0.01) for 50 or 100 g/d, compared with unsupplemented group. Background/Aims: Slug protein, a transcription factor for the induction of epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) and cancer cell invasion and metastasis, is frequently upregulated in human epithelial cancers. However, mutation of this gene in cancer is rare, and the mechanism of its dysregulation remains unknown, especially in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Methods: We examined the role of TNF-α in the stabilization of Slug by immunoprecipitation-westernblot analysis. Migration of HNSCC cells with or without knockdown of Slug gene expression was assayed by a wound healing assay. Immunohistochemical staining analysis was used to measurement Slug levels in both normal and HNSCC tumor tissues. Results: The inflammatory cytokine TNF-α stabilized Slug protein by inhibiting its ubiquitination through the NF-κB pathway. Inhibition of NF-κB or knockdown of p65 abrogated the TNF-α-induced stabilization of Slug. Knockdown of Slug expression inhibited cancer cell migration and EMT characteristics induced by TNF-α. Moreover, increased levels of Slug were found to correlate with lymph node metastasis and predict poor prognosis in patients with HNSCC. Conclusions: NF-κB-mediated stabilization of Slug underlies the inflammation-induced EMT and metastasis in HNSCC, which may serve as a therapeutic target for metastatic HNSCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A potential mechanism to enhance utilization of sparingly soluble forms of phosphorus (P) is the root secretion of malate, which is mainly mediated by the ALMT gene family in plants. In this study, a total of 34 GmALMT genes were identified in the soybean genome. Expression patterns diverged considerably among GmALMTs in response to phosphate (Pi) starvation in leaves, roots and flowers, with expression altered by P availability in 26 of the 34 GmALMTs. One root-specific GmALMT whose expression was significantly enhanced by Pi-starvation, GmALMT5, was studied in more detail to determine its possible role in soybean P nutrition. Analysis of GmALMT5 tissue expression patterns, subcellular localization, and malate exudation from transgenic soybean hairy roots overexpressing GmALMT5, demonstrated that GmALMT5 is a plasma membrane protein that mediates malate efflux from roots. Furthermore, both growth and P content of transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing GmALMT5 were significantly increased when sparingly soluble Ca-P was used as the external P source. Taken together, these results indicate that members of the soybean GmALMT gene family exhibit diverse responses to Pi starvation. One member of this family, GmALMT5, might contribute to soybean P efficiency by enhancing utilization of sparingly soluble P sources under P limited conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nonlinear magneto-elastic combined resonance of parametric and forced excitations is investigated for a rotating circular plate with a variable speed under alternating load. According to the magneto-elastic vibration equations of a conductive rotating thin circular plate, the axisymmetric vibration differential equations of the rotating circular plate under transverse magnetic field are obtained through the application of the Galerkin integral method. The method of multiple scales is applied to solve the differential equations of the circular plate under alternating magnetic field, and the resonance states of the system under combined parametric and forced excitations are obtained by analyzing secular terms. The respective amplitude-frequency response equations are also derived, as well as the necessary and sufficient conditions of the system to make it stable. A numerical method is adopted to acquire amplitude-frequency response curves, bifurcation diagrams of amplitude and the variation pattern of amplitude with magnetic induction intensity and radial force. The influence of parameter variation on stability of the system is also investigated. Based on the global bifurcation diagram of the system, the influence of the change of bifurcation parameters on the system dynamics is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
