To explore the relationship between physical exercise and smoking behavior among Chinese residents aged 16 years and older. Analysis based on 29,466 validated cases in the 2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS 2018). The chi-square test and Mann–Whitney U test were used for comparative analysis between groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between physical exercise and smoking behavior. Gender and birth cohort differences in the relationship between physical exercise and smoking behavior were explored based on stratified regression analysis using gender and birth cohort as stratified variables, respectively. Robustness testing based on multiple linear regression analysis using a replacement data approach. There were 8735 cases of smokers among the respondents. After controlling for relevant confounders, there was a significant negative association between physical exercise and smoking behavior among residents [OR 0.718, 95% CI (0.673, 0.765), P < 0.01]. Physical exercise was more significantly associated with smoking behavior among male residents [OR 0.694, 95% CI (0.649, 0.743), P < 0.01], while it was not significantly associated with smoking behavior among female residents [OR 0.901, 95% CI (0.743, 1.093), P > 0.05]. Physical exercise was more significantly associated with smoking behavior in the pre-1948 (OR 0.748), 1959–1968 (OR 0.748), 1969–1978 (OR 0.812), 1989–1998 (OR 0.576) and post-1999 (OR 0.411) birth cohorts, and the association decreased over time and with social change. The results of the robustness test showed that frequency of exercise was significantly and negatively associated with smoking behavior among residents [OR 0.961, 95% CI (0.951, 0.970), P < 0.01]. Physical exercise is negatively associated with smoking behavior among Chinese residents aged 16 years and older, especially among male residents. Methanogens and methanotrophs are important in regulating the peatland carbon cycle. The influence of hydrology on microbiota in different peatlands has been globally documented; however, the hydrological impact on methane-related microbial communities and methane (CH 4) emission remains underexplored in sub-alpine peatlands. Here, seasonal methanogenic and methanotrophic communities, as well as CH 4 emission, were determined at two sites with different water table levels from the Dajiuhu peatland, the largest intact sub-alpine peatland. Methane-related microbial communities varied with water table. A higher methanogenic and lower methanotrophic α-diversity were unveiled in samples with low water table (LWT), a reverse pattern was observed in high water table (HWT). Hydrogenotrophic methanogens dominated in samples with LWT, whereas hydrogenotrophic and aceticlastic methanogens dominated with HWT. Type II methanotrophs were predominant at both sites. Samples with HWT had higher gene copy numbers of methanogens (mcrA) and methanotrophs (pmoA) than those with LWT. Along the peat profile, methanogens and type II methanotrophs were enriched in samples at the depth of 10 - 15 cm and their abundances decreased toward deeper layers. Both type Ia and Ib methanotrophs were abundant in surface samples (0 - 5 cm). The HWT co-occurrence networks of methanogen and methanotroph were more stable and complex in contrast to those in LWT. Soil temperature was an important driver of seasonal variations in CH 4 emission at the LWT sites (0.03 - 1.61 mg m−2 h−1 for bare peat and 0.06 - 4.08 mg m−2 h−1 for peat covered with Sphagnum palustre) and HWT sites (0.25 - 0.78 mg m−2 h−1 for bare peat and 0.42 - 9.60 mg m−2 h−1 for peat covered S. palustre). The water table and vegetation affected the pattern of seasonal CH 4 emission. Frequency‐dependent anelastic attenuation is a fact that must be considered when inverting seismic data. The shallow attenuation characteristics of large sedimentary basins with frequent earthquakes in mainland China are still unclear, which hinders the study of strong ground motion. Borehole seismometers distributed in these areas provide information on shallow structures. In this study, the direct and surface‐reflected phases in local earthquake borehole seismograms were extracted to calculate the average S wave anelastic attenuation of shallow sediments in mainland China. Relying on the seismograms recorded by 103 borehole stations, the attenuation values and lithologies of the shallow sediments above the borehole seismometers were estimated by applying a multi‐time window analysis method. We suggested that the QS−1 values generally decrease from 0.04–0.50 at 1 Hz to 0.01–0.05 at 10 Hz. We obtained the empirical relationships among attenuation, velocity, and depth and found that the dominant mechanisms for attenuation above and below a depth of 400 m could be different due to sediment compositions and scales. Certain borehole depths and corresponding Vs values were corrected by analyzing the time difference variation and the QS−1 distinction. Attenuation is an important feature of Earth's media. Strong attenuation has a significant influence on predictions of strong ground motion, especially for sedimentary basins. Moreover, compared to velocity, attenuation is more sensitive to changes in rock properties caused by stress. Therefore, it is important to understand the attenuation of shallow sediments in mainland China, which has high seismicity. More than 100 borehole stations have been established through the development of a seismic network in China. Relying on the seismograms recorded by these underground stations, the attenuation and velocity values and lithologies of the shallow sediments above the borehole seismometers were estimated by applying a robust and reliable analysis method. We also obtained the empirical relationships among attenuation, velocity, and depth. These results can be most useful in the prediction of strong ground motion. Background: Since December 2019, over 80,000 patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in China. With the increasing number of recovered patients, more attention should be paid to the follow-up of these patients.Methods: In the study, 576 patients with COVID-19 discharged from hospital in Chongqing, China from January 24, 2020, to March 10, 2020 were evaluated by viral nucleic acid tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) to determine if they could be released from quarantine. Among the 576 patients, 61 patients (10.6%) had positive RT-PCR test results of SARS-CoV-2. We aimed to analyze the demographics, clinical characteristics and treatment of 61 patients.Results: These positive patients were characterized by older age, chronic medical illness and mild conditions. 38 (62.3%) patients who were asymptomatic without abnormalities on chest radiographs were found in the positive with COVID-19. Also, they showed positive results of stool or sputum specimens with negative results of nasal and pharyngeal swab specimens. The median duration of positive result of SARS-CoV-2 was varied from 3 days to 35 days in the patients discharged from hospital with no family member infection.Conclusions: Multi-site screening of SARS-CoV-2 including nasal and pharyngeal swabs, stool and sputum specimens could be considered to improve the diagnosis, treatment and infection control in patients with COVID-19. In China, air traffic congestion has become increasingly prominent and tends to spread from terminal areas to en route networks. Accurate and objective traffic demand prediction could alleviate congestion effectively. However, the usual demand prediction is based on conjecture method of flying track, and the number of aircraft flying over a sector in a set time interval could be inferred through the location information of any aircraft track. In this paper, we proposed a probabilistic traffic demand prediction method by considering the deviations caused by random events, such as the change of departure or arrival time, the temporary change in route or altitude under severe weather conditions, and unscheduled cancellation for a flight. The probabilistic method quantifies these uncertain factors and presents numerical value with its corresponding probability instead of the deterministic number of aircraft in a sector during a time interval. The analysis results indicate that the probabilistic traffic demand prediction based on error distribution characteristics achieves an effective match with the realistic operation in airspace of central and southern China, which contributes to enhancing the implementation of airspace congestion risk management. Purpose: This study is aimed to explore the combined use of goiter dispersion formula and antithyroid drugs in the treatment of patients with neurologic manifestations of Graves' disease by examining its modulating effects on patients' cytokines. Methods: A total of 80 patients with Graves' disease were randomly divided into treatment and control groups. Patients of the treatment group received goiter dispersion formula and antithyroid drugs (methimazole or propylthiouracil), whereas those of the control group received antithyroid drug alone. FT3, FT4, and TSH contents were detected by chemiluminescence immunoassay at pre- and post-treatment; interleukin (IL)-2, IL-8, and IL-17 serum levels before and after the treatment were detected by radioimmunoassay; thyroid B-mode ultrasound and liver and renal function tests were performed in all patients of both groups. An additional cohort of 40 healthy subjects was recruited for baseline measurement. Results: All the enrolled patients completed the trial. The effective treatment rate was higher in the treatment group than in the control group, of which the difference was statistically significant (treatment group, 95%; control group, 75%, p < 0.01). For blood cytokine, before treatment, IL-2 was reduced whereas IL-8 and IL-17 were increased significantly in both groups of patients with Graves' disease comparing with those in healthy subjects (p < 0.01). For patients of the treatment group, after treatment, their IL-2 levels were increased (p < 0.01) with concomitant decreases in IL-8 and IL-17 levels (p < 0.05). There were no significant changes in blood cytokine levels before and after treatment in the control group. Conclusions: Goiter dispersion formula significantly improved the treatment outcomes of antithyroid drug in hyperthyroidism patients with neurologic manifestations of Graves' disease by modulating IL-2, IL-8, and IL-17. Objective. To compare eye-related quality of life between Chinese children wearing orthokeratology (OK) contact lenses and single-vision spectacles (SVS) using the Pediatric Eye Questionnaire (PedEyeQ) and to evaluate the impact of different myopia correction methods on children and their parents. Methods. Children aged 12–17 years and their parents/legal guardians were recruited. The children's myopia ranged from −0.50 to −5.00 diopters (D), and their astigmatism was <1.50 D. They had all been wearing OK contact lenses or SVS for at least 12 months. The children completed the Child PedEyeQ. One of their parents (or a legal guardian) completed the Proxy PedEyeQ and the Parent PedEyeQ. Rasch-calibrated PedEyeQ scores were calculated for each domain and were converted to a scale from 0 to 100 for statistical analysis. Results. A total of 50 children wearing OK contact lenses, 43 children wearing SVS, and their parents/legal guardians completed the questionnaires. The scores of all Child, Proxy, and Parent PedEyeQ domains in the OK contact lens group were higher than those in the SVS group (all P < 0.05). In the mild and moderate myopia subgroups, the Child, Proxy, and Parent PedEyeQ scores in the mild myopia OK contact lens subgroup were higher than those in the mild myopia SVS group (all P < 0.05) except functional vision and bothered by eyes/vision domains for the proxy PedEyeQ. Similarly, the Child, Proxy, and Parent PedEyeQ scores in the moderate myopia OK contact lens subgroup were higher than those in the moderate myopia SVS subgroup (all P < 0.05) except impact on parent and family domain for the parent PedEyeQ. In the subgroup analysis of glasses type, no significant score difference of any Child, Proxy, and Parent PedEyeQ domain was detected between mild and moderate myopia in either the OK contact lens group or the SVS group (all P > 0.05). Conclusion. Compared with children wearing SVS, children wearing OK contact lenses have better functional vision and eye-related quality of life. Symbiotic microbiomes of Sphagnum have been confirmed to play a fundamental role in carbon and nitrogen cycles, however, little is known about microbiomes associated with other bryophytes in subtropical peatland ecosystems. To explore the differences in community structure, metabolic potential and interaction relationship of bacterial microbiomes associated with different bryophytes species, the gametophytes of three bryophyte species (Sphagnum palustre, Aulacomnium androgynum, and Polytrichum commune) and their underlying peat sediments were collected from the subtropical Dajiuhu Peatland and subjected to Illumina high-throughout sequencing of 16S rRNA gene. Results showed that bacterial diversity was lowest in S. palustre, the dominant moss species, among the three moss species investigated in Dajiuhu Peatland. Bacterial communities from bryophytes clearly separated with those from sediments as indicated by both phylogenetic and taxonomical approaches. Linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) identified 30 and 36 indicator taxa in mosses and peat sediments. Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobia and Thermoleophilia significantly enriched in S. palustre, A. androgynum and P. commune, Chloroflexi, Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria subgroup 6 was indicator taxa for corresponding underlying sediments, respectively. Despite of these differences in compositions, bacterial functional structures were similar among all bryophytes, such as abundant aerobic heterotrophs, rare nitrifiers and denitrifiers. This phenomenon was also observed among the underlying sediments. Network analysis indicated that Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria located in the center of network and exerted strong interactions to other taxa. The sub-network of bacterial communities in sediments was more connected and microbial groups were more competitive than those in bryophytes subnetwork. Our results offer new insight into the community structure, ecological function and interaction pattern of bacterial microbiomes in the Dajiuhu Peatland across different habitats. Purpose: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is an inherited disorder, with phagocytes failing to produce antimicrobial superoxide due to deficient NADPH oxidase activity. Mutations in the gene encoding CYBB are responsible for the majority of the CGD cases. To date, there have been no reports on large samples of children with CGD in China. Therefore, in this study, we described the clinical and molecular features of 38 suspected CGD patients from 36 unrelated Chinese families. Methods: Clinical diagnosis was performed using dihydrorhodamine assays detected by flow cytometry. Molecular analysis was used to identify underlying CGD-causative genes. Results: The mean age of onset in our 38 patients was 3.4 months, while the mean age at diagnosis was 31.7 months. Apart from recurrent pneumonia and abscesses, tuberculosis (TB) and Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) infections were notable features in our cohort. Overall, 17 cases died and patient 1 did not participate in the follow-up period . In total, we identified 29 different CYBB gene mutations in 31 patients. We found NCF1 and CYBA mutations in 3 and 2 patients, respectively. In addition, we identified 31 carriers and prenatally diagnosed 4 CGD and 4 healthy fetuses. Conclusions: The results of our study demonstrate that children with BCG infections or recurrent TB infections should have immune function screening tests performed. Moreover, newborns with family histories of primary immunodeficiency diseases should avoid of BCG vaccination. Abstract: Sasakia funebris, a member of the lepidopteran family, Nymphalidae (superfamily Papilionoidea) is a rare species and is found only in some areas of South China. In this study, the 15,233bp long complete mitochondrial genome of S. funebris was determined, and harbors the gene arrangement identical to all other sequenced lepidopteran insects. The nucleotide composition of the genome is highly A+T biased, accounting for 81.2%. All protein-coding genes (PCGs) start with typical ATN codons, except for COI which begins with the CGA codon. All tRNAs have a typical clover-leaf secondary structure, except for tRNASer(AGN) , the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm of which forms a simple loop. The S. funebris A+T-rich region of 370bp contains several features common to the Lepidoptera insects, including the motif ATAGA followed by a 19bp poly-T stretch, and two tandem repeats consisting of 18bp repeat units and 14bp repeat units. The phylogenetic analyses of Apaturinae based on mitogenome sequences showed: (S. funebris + Sasakia charonda)+(Apatura metis + Apatura ilia). Abstract: Great differences between municipal solid wastes(MSW) produced at different places and different times in terms of such parameters as physical ingredient and heating value lead to difficulty in effective handling of MSW. In this paper, ingredient, heating value and their temporal varying trends of typical MSW in Beijing were continuously measured and analyzed. With consideration of the process in pyrolysis and incineration, correlation between physical ingredients and heating values was induced, favorable for evaluation of heating value needed in handling of MSW from simple analysis of physical ingredients of it. Aim: The equator‐to‐poles decline in the number of species, namely the latitudinal diversity gradient (LDG), is the most conspicuous pattern in biology, yet the underlying mechanisms of this pattern remain controversial. Species dispersal could have strong effects on large‐scale species distributions but has rarely been considered in understanding the LDG. Here we sought to examine how dispersal ability may influence the latitudinal phylogenetic patterns of woody angiosperm assemblages. Location: China. Taxon: Woody angiosperms. Methods: Based on a highly supported mega‐phylogeny constructed from plastid genomes, we assessed the patterns of phylogenetic relatedness and dissimilarity of 1184 trees with three different seed dispersal modes (i.e. zoochory, anemochory and autochory) in 12 permanent forest dynamic plots covering tropical, subtropical and temperate zones in China. Results: We found that, compared with zoochorous and anemochorous species, the less vagile autochorous trees exhibited a much weaker latitudinal pattern in phylogenetic relatedness and higher phylogenetic dissimilarity among plots. The phylogenetic dissimilarity pattern of autochorous trees was explained more by geographic distance than environmental factors, consistent with a dominant role for dispersal limitation. Main Conclusions: Our study, for the first time, demonstrates that seed dispersal mode strongly influences the latitudinal phylogenetic patterns of woody angiosperm assemblages in China and highlights the importance of interaction between dispersal limitation and environmental filtering in determining the large‐scale distribution of forest biodiversity. Phylogenetic trees have been extensively used in community ecology. However, how the phylogeny construction affects ecological inferences is poorly understood. In this study, we constructed three different types of phylogenetic trees (a synthetic‐tree generated using V.PhyloMaker, a barcode‐tree generated using rbcL+matK+trnH‐psbA, and a plastome‐tree generated from plastid genomes) that represented an increasing level of phylogenetic resolution among 580 woody plant species from six forest dynamic plots in subtropical evergreen broadleaved forests of China. We then evaluated the performance of each phylogeny in estimations of community phylogenetic structure, turnover and phylogenetic signal in functional traits. As expected, the plastome‐tree was most resolved and most supported for relationships among species. For local phylogenetic structure, the three trees showed consistent results with Faith's PD and MPD; however, only the synthetic‐tree produced significant clustering patterns using MNTD for some plots. For phylogenetic turnover, contrasting results between the molecular trees and the synthetic‐tree occurred only with nearest neighbor distance. The barcode‐tree agreed more with the plastome‐tree than the synthetic‐tree for both phylogenetic structure and turnover. For functional traits, both the barcode‐tree and plastome‐tree detected phylogenetic signal in maximum height, but only the plastome‐tree detected signal in leaf width. This is the first study that uses plastid genomes in large‐scale community phylogenetics. Our results highlight the improvement of plastome‐trees over barcode‐trees and synthetic‐trees for the analyses studied here. Our results also point to the possibility of type I and II errors in estimation of phylogenetic structure and turnover and detection of phylogenetic signal when using synthetic‐trees. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) recombinants in the world are believed to be generated through recombination between distinct HIV-1 strains among coinfection or superinfection cases. However, direct evidence to support transmission of HIV-1 recombinants from a coinfected/superinfected donor to putative recipient is lacking. Here, we report on the origin and evolutionary relationship between a set of recombinants from a CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC superinfected putative donor and diverse CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC recombinants from five putative recipients. Interviews on sociodemographic characteristics and sexual behaviors for these six HIV-1-infected men who have sex with men showed that they had similar ways of partner seeking: online dating sites and social circles. Phylogenetic and recombination analyses demonstrated that the near-full-length genome sequences from six patients formed a monophyletic cluster different from known HIV-1 genotypes in maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees, were all composed of CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC fragments with two common breakpoints on env, and shared 4–7 four breakpoints with each other. Moreover, 3' half-genomes of recombinant strains from five recipients had identical/similar recombinant structures with strains at longitudinal samples from the superinfected donor. Recombinants from the donor were paraphyletic, whereas five recipients were monophyletic or polyphyletic in the maximum clade credibility tree. Bayesian analyses confirmed that the estimated time to the most recent common ancestor (tMRCA) of CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC strains of the donor was 2009.2 and 2010.7, respectively, and all were earlier than the emergence of recombinants from five recipients. Our results demonstrated that the closely related unique recombination forms of HIV-1 might be the descendent of a series of recombinants generated gradually in a superinfected patient. This finding highlights the importance of early initiation of antiretroviral therapy as well as tracing and testing of partners in patients with multiple HIV-1 infection. Author summary: Recombination is a major mechanism for rapid evolution and diversification of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). Multiple HIV-1 infection is believed to be a prerequisite for generating new recombinant strains. Recombinants sharing some breakpoints might have a common ancestor or direct parental/progenitor relationship or be irrelevant in evolution. However, evidence to support transmission of HIV-1 recombinants from coinfected/superinfected donor to putative recipients with recombinant descendants is lacking. Here, we report on a set of HIV-1 CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC unique recombination forms (URFs) from six HIV-1-infected men who have sex with men (MSM) in China with similar recombination structures and homologous parental strains. Moreover, the 3' half-genomes of all recombinants from five recipients had similar or identical forms with earlier continuous samples of a superinfected donor, and presented paraphyletic-monophyletic or paraphyletic-polyphyletic relationships in maximum clade credibility trees. These data suggest that HIV-1 superinfection might be a potential source of transmission of a series of closely related HIV-1 CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC URFs. Our study emphasizes the importance of continuous surveillance and early initiation of antiretroviral therapy in HIV-1-superinfected individuals with active high-risk behavior and substance abuse to prevent the generation and spread of recombinant strains among HIV-infected individuals. Background: In the normal life cycle of the parasite (Echinococcus multilocularis) that causes alveolar echinococcosis, domestic and wild carnivores act as definitive hosts, and rodents act as intermediate hosts. The presented study contributes to the research on the distribution and transmission pattern of E. multilocularis in China having identified sheep as an unusual intermediate host taking part in the domestic transmission of alveolar echinococcosis in Gansu Province, China. Methods: From 2020 to 2021, nine whitish different cyst-like were collected from the liver of sheep in Gansu Province for examination. A near complete mitochondrial (mt) genome and selected nuclear genes were amplified from the cyst-like lesion for identification. To confirm the status of the specimen, comparative analysis with reference sequences, phylogenetic analysis, and network analysis were performed. Results: The isolates displayed ≥ 98.87% similarity to E. multilocularis NADH dehydrogenase sub-unit 1 (nad1) (894 bp) reference sequences deposited in GenBank. Furthermore, amplification of the nad4 and nad2 genes also confirmed all nine samples as E. multilocularis with > 99.30% similarity. Additionally, three nuclear genes, pepck (1545 bp), elp-exons VII and VIII (566 bp), and elp-exon IX (256 bp), were successfully amplified and sequenced for one of the isolates with 98.42% similarity, confirming the isolates were correctly identified as E. multilocularis. Network analysis also correctly placed the isolates with other E. multilocularis. Conclusions: As a result of the discovery of E. multilocularis in an unusual intermediate host, which is considered to have the highest zoonotic potential, the result clearly demonstrated the necessity for expanded surveillance in the area. Pseudorabies virus (PRV) variants have caused substantial economic losses in the swine industry in China since 2011. To surveil the genetic variation in PRV field strains, here, two novel variant strains of PRV were isolated from Shanxi Province in central China and were designated SX1910 and SX1911. To identify the genetic characteristics of the two isolates, their complete genomes were sequenced, and phylogenetic analysis and sequence alignment revealed that field PRV variants have undergone genetic variations; notably, the protein-coding sequences UL5, UL36, US1 and IE180 exhibited extensive variation and contained one or more hypervariable regions. Furthermore, we also found that the glycoproteins gB and gD of the two isolates had some novel amino acid (aa) mutations. Importantly, most of these mutations were located on the surface of the protein molecule, according to protein structure model analysis. We constructed a mutant virus of SX1911 with deletion of the gE and gI genes via CRISPR/Cas9. When tested in mice, SX1911-ΔgE/gI-vaccinated mice were protected within a comparable range to Bartha-K61-vaccinated mice. Additionally, a higher dose of inactivated Bartha-K61 protected the mice from lethal SX1911 challenge, while a lower neutralization titer, higher viral load and more severe microscopic lesions were displayed in Bartha-K61-vaccinated mice. The identification of additional Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.) complex species/genotypes in recent years raises the possibility that there might be more variation among this species in China than is currently understood. The aim of this study was to explore intra- and inter-species variation and population structure of Echinococcus species isolated from sheep in three areas of Western China. Of the isolates, 317, 322, and 326 were successfully amplified and sequenced for cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes, respectively. BLAST analysis revealed that the majority of the isolates were E. granulosus s.s., and using the cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes, respectively, 17, 14, and 11 isolates corresponded to Elodea canadensis (genotype G6/G7). In the three study areas, G1 genotypes were the most prevalent. There were 233 mutation sites along with 129 parsimony informative sites. A transition/transversion ratio of 7.5, 8, and 3.25, respectively, for cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes was obtained. Every mitochondrial gene had intraspecific variations, which were represented in a star-like network with a major haplotype with observable mutations from other distant and minor haplotypes. The Tajima's D value was significantly negative in all populations, indicating a substantial divergence from neutrality and supporting the demographic expansion of E. granulosus s.s. in the study areas. The phylogeny inferred by the maximum likelihood (ML) method using nucleotide sequences of cox1–nad1–nad5 further confirmed their identity. The nodes assigned to the G1, G3, and G6 clades as well as the reference sequences utilized had maximal posterior probability values (1.00). In conclusion, our study confirms the existence of a significant major haplotype of E. granulosus s.s. where G1 is the predominant genotype causing of CE in both livestock and humans in China. In this study, we used genotyping to determine the genetic structure and molecular identities of apple landraces from six species of Malus Mill. in China, based on the fingerprints revealed by microsatellite markers with tailed primer M13. A total of 46 apple landraces of Malus Mill. selected from the National Apple and Pear Germplasm Repository in Xingcheng, China were genotyped with 14 SSR markers. The primers differentiated all the accessions. At least three SSR primers, CH04h02, CH01f07a and CH04g07, with a higher heterozygosity and Shannon's information index than other combinations can distinguish all the accessions. All the alleles for these three primers were arranged in descending order, and they were assigned values beginning with 01. Character strings were constituted by combining all the codes of the three primers for every accession. By such means, separate and special molecular identities were obtained for every apple landrace, which could be expressed in the form of a bar code. Using such bar codes, trees can be labeled and scanned, which aids in the identification and tracking of genebank collections. The eight-step method for establishing the molecular identities of apple landraces reported here may serve as a reference when determining the molecular identities establishment of other apple germplasms of Malus Mill. This method might also be used for the establishment of a molecular database to aid the preservation of Malus Mill., which is in imminent danger in China. Aims: To evaluate the ability of carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), risk of ovarian malignancy algorithm (ROMA), and Copenhagen Index (CPH‐I) to identify primary ovarian cancer (OC) from borderline and benign ovarian tumors (OTs) and explore ideal cutoff points. Methods: A total of 684 OTs containing 276 OC patients, 116 ovarian borderline OTs and 292 benign OTs patients who underwent surgery in our hospital were included. We retrospectively searched the results of CA125 and HE4 before patients' surgery from the hospital's electronic medical records system. ROMA and CPH‐I were calculated according to their menopausal status and age, respectively. Diagnostic performance of these four were assessed by drawing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: CA125, HE4, ROMA, and CPH‐I were all significantly higher in OC women compared with borderline OTs (p < 0.001), followed by benign OTs (p < 0.001). Area under the curves (AUCs) for distinguishing OC were 0.850 (0.818–0.882), 0.891 (0.865–0.916), 0.910 (0.888–0.933) and 0.906 (0.882–0.930), respectively, and the corresponding ideal cutoff values for CA125, HE4, ROMA, and CPH‐I were 132.5, 68.6, 23.8, and 6.4, respectively. The difference between ROMA and CPH‐I was not significant (p = 0.97), but both were higher than CA125 and HE4 (p < 0.05). HE4 showed a significantly higher AUC than CA125 (p < 0.05). For postmenopausal women, CA125 performed equivalently to ROMA (p = 0.73) and CPH‐I (p = 0.91). Conclusions: In identifying patients with OC, ROMA and CPH‐I outperformed single tumor marker. Bathyarchaeota are believed to have roles in the carbon cycle in marine systems. However, the ecological knowledge of Bathyarchaeota is limited in peatland ecosystems. Here, we investigated the vertical distribution of Bathyarchaeota community structure using quantitative PCR and high-throughput sequencing technology of ribosomal 16S rRNA gene integrated with detailed chemical profiling in the Dajiuhu Peatland, central China. Eight archaeal phyla were observed in peat samples, which mainly composed of Bathyarchaeota with a mean relative abundance about 88%, followed by Thaumarchaeota (9%). Bathyarchaeota were further split into 17 subgroups, and some subgroups showed habitat specificity to peat horizons with distinct lithological and physicochemical properties, for example, Bathy-6 and Bathy-15 had preference for the acrotelm, Bathy-5b, Bathy-16, and Bathy-19 were enriched in the catotelm, Bathy-5a, Bathy-8, and Bathy-11 were specific for the clay horizon. This spatial distribution pattern of archaeal communities along peat profile was mainly influenced by water content as indicated by RDA ordination and permutational MANOVA, whereas organic matter content exclusively affected Bathyarchaeota distribution along the peat profile significantly. The abundance of archaeal 16S rRNA genes ranged from 105 to 107 copies per gram dry sediment, and the highest archaeal biomass was observed in the periodically oxic mesotelm horizon with more dynamic archaeal interaction relationship as indicated by the network analysis. Bathyarchaeota dominated the archaeal interaction network with 82% nodes, 96% edges, and 71% keystone species. Our results provide an overview of the archaeal population, community structure, and relationship with environmental factors that affect the vertical distribution of archaeal communities and emphasize the ecology of bathyarchaeotal lineages in terrestrial peatland ecosystems. In the "treat all" era, the high rate of late HIV diagnosis (LHD) worldwide remains an impediment to ending the HIV epidemic. In this study, we analyzed LHD in newly diagnosed people living with HIV (PLWH) and its impact on HIV transmission in Northeast China. Sociodemographic information, baseline clinical data, and plasma samples obtained from all newly diagnosed PLWH in Shenyang, the largest city in Northeast China, between 2016 and 2019 were evaluated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors associated with LHD. A molecular network based on the HIV pol gene was constructed to assess the risk of HIV transmission with LHD. A total of 2882 PLWH, including 882 (30.6%) patients with LHD and 1390 (48.2%) patients with non-LHD, were enrolled. The risk factors for LHD were older age (≥ 30 years: p <.01) and diagnosis in the general population through physical examination (p <.0001). Moreover, the molecular network analysis revealed that the clustering rate (p <.0001), the fraction of individuals with ≥ 4 links (p =.0847), and the fraction of individuals linked to recent HIV infection (p <.0001) for LHD were significantly or marginally significantly lower than those recorded for non-LHD. Our study indicates the major risk factors associated with LHD in Shenyang and their limited contribution to HIV transmission, revealing that the peak of HIV transmission of LHD at diagnosis may have been missed. Dredging activities in China produce a great deal of clay suspensions which are generally pumped into yards as filling materials to form reclaimed lands. Understanding the settlement behavior of clay suspensions during settling process is essential in engineering practice for meeting the design requirement on the storage capacity of reclaimed yards. To this end, this study performed 25 types of sedimentation tests on the clay suspensions with different liquid limits, initial water contents, and initial heights using different sizes of sediment columns. The experimental results indicate that the settlement–time curves of clay suspensions can be classified into three stages. It is found that the first stage can be ignored, and the sedimentation can be attributed to the second stage termed as settling stage in practice. Hyperbolic model is proposed for describing the settlement–time relationship during the settling stage, and a quantitative method of determining the settlement at the end of the settling stage is suggested. The changing trends of the settlement and the time at the completion of sedimentation are investigated with considering the effects of liquid limit, initial water content, and initial height. Parasitic infection is one of the many challenges facing livestock production globally. Cysticercosis tenuicollis is a common parasitic disease in domestic and wild ruminants (intermediate host) caused by the larval stage of Taenia hydatigena that primarily infects dogs (definitive host). Although genetic studies on this parasite exist, only a few describe the genetic variation of this parasite in Mongolia. Our aim was thus, to identify the mitochondrial differences in ovine isolates of Cysticercus tenuicollis entering China from Mongolia and comparison with existing Chinese isolates from sheep and goats based on the recently described PCR–RFLP method and mitochondrial genes of NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (nad4) and the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (nad5). Sixty-nine isolates were collected during routine veterinary meat inspections from sheep that originated from Mongolia, at the modern slaughterhouses in Erenhot City, Inner Mongolia. Additional 114 cysticerci were also retrieved from sheep and goats from northern (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Gansu Province), western (Tibet Autonomous Region), and southern (Jiangxi Province and Guangxi Province) China. The PCR–RFLP approach of the nad5 showed nine mitochondrial subclusters A1, A2, A3, A5, A8, A9, A10, A11, and B of T. hydatigena isolates from sheep and goats from Mongolia and China. Meanwhile, haplogroup A1 RFLP profile was more widespread than other variants. These data supplements existing information on the molecular epidemiology of T. hydatigena in China and Mongolia and demonstrate the occurrence of similar genetic population structures in both countries. Riemerella anatipestifer , belonging to Weeksellaceae family Riemerella, is a bacterium that can infect ducks, geese, and turkeys, causing diseases known as duck infectious serositis, new duck disease, and duck septicemia. We collected diseased materials from ducks on a duck farm in China and then isolated and purified a strain of serotype 1 R. anatipestifer named SX-1. Animal experiments showed that SX-1 is a highly virulent strain with an LD 50 value of 101 CFU/mL. The complete genome sequence was obtained. The complete genome sequence of R. anatipestifer SX-1 was 2,112,539 bp; 847 genes were involved in catalytic activity, and 445 genes were related to the cell membrane. The total length of the repetitive sequences was 8746 bp. Four CRISPR loci were predicted in R. anatipestifer strain SX-1, and 4 genomic islands were predicted. Concentration and ultra-high-speed centrifugation were used to extract the outer membrane vesicles of R. anatipestifer SX-1. The OMVs were extracted successfully. Particle size analysis revealed the size and abundance of particles: 147.4 nm, 94.9%; 293.6 nm, 1.1%; 327.2 nm, 1.1%; 397.2 nm, 0.3%; and 371.8 nm, 1.1%. The average size was 173.5 nm. Label-free proteomic technology was used to identify proteins in the outer membrane vesicles. ATCC 11845 served as the reference genome sequence, and 148 proteins were identified using proteomic analysis, which were classified into 5 categories based on their sources. Among them, 24 originated from cytoplasmic proteins, 4 from extracellular secreted proteins, 27 from outer membrane proteins, 10 from periplasmic proteins, and 83 from unknown sources. This study conducted a proteomic analysis of OMVs to provide a theoretical basis for the development of R. anatipestifer OMVs vaccines and adjuvants and lays the foundation for further research on the relationship between the pathogenicity of R. anatipestifer and OMVs. Ships' ballast water and sediments have long been linked to the global transport and expansion of invasive species and thus have become a hot research topic and administrative challenge in the past decades. The relevant concerns, however, have been mainly about the ocean-to-ocean invasion and sampling practices have been almost exclusively conducted onboard. We examined and compared the dinoflagellate cysts assemblages in 49 sediment samples collected from ballast tanks of international and domestic routes ships, washing basins associated with a ship-repair yard, Jiangyin Port (PS), and the nearby area of Yangtze River (YR) during 2017–2018. A total of 43 dinoflagellates were fully identified to species level by metabarcoding, single-cyst PCR-based sequencing, cyst germination and phylogenetic analyses, including 12 species never reported from waters of China, 14 HABs-causing, 9 toxic, and 10 not strictly marine species. Our metabarcoding and single-cyst sequencing also detected many OTUs and cysts of dinoflagellates that could not be fully identified, indicating ballast tank sediments being a risky repository of currently unrecognizable invasive species. Particularly important, 10 brackish and fresh water species of dinoflagellate cysts (such as Tyrannodinium edax) were detected from the transoceanic ships, indicating these species may function as alien species potentially invading the inland rivers and adjacent lakes if these ships conduct deballast and other practices in fresh waterbodies. Significantly higher numbers of reads and OTUs of dinoflagellates in the ballast tanks and washing basins than that in PS and YR indicate a risk of releasing cysts by ships and the associated ship-repair yards to the surrounding waters. Phylogenetic analyses revealed high intra-species genetic diversity for multiple cyst species from different ballast tanks. Background: To assess the gaps between the initial management of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) in real clinical practice and the recommendations of the 2012 Chinese DTC guidelines. Methods: This multicenter, prospective study was conducted at nine tertiary hospitals across China. Eligible patients were those having intermediate or high-risk DTC after first-time thyroidectomy. During 1 year of follow-up, comprehensive medical records were collected and summarized using descriptive statistics. Results: Of 2013 patients, 1874 (93.1%) underwent standard surgery according to the guidelines (including total lobectomy plus isthmusectomy and total/near total thyroidectomy), and 1993 (99.0%) underwent lymph node dissection; only 56 (2.8%) had postoperative complications. Overall, 982/2013 patients (48.8%) received radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy after thyroidectomy. Of all enrolled patients, 61.4% achieved the target serum thyroid-stimulating hormone level, with a median time to target of 234.0 days (95% CI: 222.0–252.0). At 1 year of follow-up, proportions of patients with excellent response, incomplete structural response, biochemical incomplete response, and indeterminate response were 34.6, 11.2, 6.6, and 47.5%, respectively; recurrence or metastasis occurred in 27 patients (1.3%). During the overall study period, 209 patients (10.4%) had at least one adverse event: 65.1% of cases were mild, 24.9% moderate, and 10.1% severe. Conclusions: This was the first large-scale prospective study of how patients with DTC in China are treated in actual practice. Initial DTC management is generally safe and adheres to the 2012 Chinese guidelines but could be improved, and the level of guideline adherence did not produce the anticipated treatment response at 1 year of follow-up. Background: To assess transmitted drug resistance (TDR) to tenofovir (TDF)/emtricitabine (FTC), using as pre-exposure prophylaxis, among newly diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1)-infected residents in Shenyang city, northeast China.Methods: Demographic and epidemiological information of all newly diagnosed HIV-1 infected residents in Shenyang city from 2016 to 2018 were anonymously collected from the local HIV epidemic database. HIV-1 pol sequences were amplified from RNA in cryopreserved plasma samples and sequenced directly. Viral subtypes were inferred with phylogenetic analysis and drug resistance mutations (DRMs) were determined according to the Stanford HIVdb algorithm. Recent HIV infection was determined with HIV Limiting Antigen avidity electro immunoassay.Results: A total of 2176 sequences (92.4%, 2176/2354) were obtained; 70.9% (1536/2167) were CRF01_AE, followed by CRF07_BC (18.0%, 391/2167), subtype B (4.7%, 102/2167), other subtypes (2.6%, 56/2167), and unique recombinant forms (3.8%, 82/2167). The prevalence of TDR was 4.9% (107/2167), among which, only 0.6% (13/2167) was resistance to TDF/FTC. Most of these subjects had CRF01_AE strains (76.9%, 10/13), were unmarried (76.9%, 10/13), infected through homosexual contact (92.3%, 12/13), and over 30 years old (median age: 33). The TDF/FTC DRMs included K65R (8/13), M184I/V (5/13), and Y115F (2/13). Recent HIV infection accounted for only 23.1% (3/13). Most cases were sporadic in the phylogenetic tree, except two CRF01_AE sequences with K65R (Bootstrap value: 99%).Conclusions: The prevalence of TDR to TDF/FTC is low among newly diagnosed HIV-infected cases in Shenyang, suggesting that TDR may have little impact on the protective effect of the ongoing CROPrEP project in Shenyang city. Two parasitoids, Metapelma beijingense Yang (Hymenoptera, Eupelmidae) and Spathius ochus Nixon (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) are redescribed and illustrated. Both were reared from Coraebus cavifrons Descarpentries & Villiers (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) boring in Symplocos stellaris Brand (Symplocaceae). Metapelma beijingense is a solitary parasitoid with a parasitism rate of about 13.5% and S. ochus is a gregarious parasitoid with a parasitism rate of about 21.2%. Background: Low level viremia (LLV) often occurs during antiretroviral therapy (ART) against HIV-1. However, whether LLV increases the risk of virologic failure (VF) is controversial because of the non-uniform definitions of LLV and VF.Methods: A long-term first line regimen ART cohort from 2002 to 2018 from Shenyang, northeast China, was retrospectively studied. All participants were followed up every 3 to 6 months to evaluate the treatment effect. The high-risk LLV subgroups leading to VF (with strict standards) were explored with Cox proportional hazards model and linear mixed-effect model. The association factors of high-risk LLV were further explored using multivariate logistic regression analyses.Results: A total of 2155 HIV-1 infected participants were included; of these, 38.7% showed LLV. Both high level LLV (HLLV) and any other level LLV coupled with high level blip (HLB) showed higher risk of VF (hazards ratios, HRHLLV = 5.93, and HRHLB = 2.84, p <  0.05 respectively). Moreover, HR increased with prolonged duration of LLV. Independent factors associated with high-risk LLV included the zenith baseline viral load (VL) above 6 log copies/ml (aOR = 3.49, p = 0.002), nadir baseline CD4 + T cell counts below 200 cells/mm3 (aOR = 1.78, p = 0.011), Manchu (aOR = 2.03, p = 0.003), ART over 60 months (aOR = 1.81, p = 0.004), AZT + 3TC + NVP (aOR = 2.26, p <  0.001) or DDI-based regimen (aOR = 9.96, p = 0.002), and subtype B' infection (aOR = 8.22, p = 0.001).Conclusions: In case of VF with strict standards, high-risk LLV leading to VF includes VL above 400 copies/ml, occurring at least once. ATP/GTP binding protein like 1 (AGBL1) plays a role in controlling the length of polyglutamate side chains. Polymorphism rs4513061 in AGBL1 is suspected to influence the risk of lung cancer. A case/control study was performed involving 556 cases and 563 controls from a hospital participating in donation. The relationship between rs4513061 and the risk of lung cancer and the interaction between rs4513061 and environmental exposure were determined by the chi-square tests, logistic regression analysis, and crossover analysis. The survival analysis was conducted by Cox proportional hazard regression. The results showed that rs4513061 polymorphism is associated with the risk of lung cancer. The stratified analysis suggested the protective effect of rs4513061 to different histological types of lung cancer, including lung adenocarcinoma (AA vs. GG: odds ratio [OR] = 0.505, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.337–0.756, p < 0.001), squamous cell lung cancer (AG vs. GG: OR = 0.488, 95% CI = 0.269–0.883, p = 0.018), and small-cell lung cancer (AA vs. GG: OR = 0.421, 95% CI = 0.216–0.819, p = 0.011). Nevertheless, there was no significant interaction between rs4513061 and cooking oil fume. Significant impact was not observed between the rs4513061 polymorphism and survival time of lung cancer. Purpose: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is the most common phagocyte defect disease. Here, we describe 114 CGD patients in our center and report a rare female infant with XL-CGD to provide a better understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and prenatal diagnosis of CGD. Method: Patients were diagnosed by DHR-1,2,3 flow cytometry assays and gene analysis. X chromosome inactivation analysis and gp91phox protein test were used for a female infant with XL-CGD. Results: XL-CGD accounts for the majority of cases in China and results in higher susceptibility to some infections than AR-CGD. The DHR assay can help diagnose CGD quickly, and atypical results should be combined with clinical manifestations, genetic analysis, and regular follow-up. For prenatal diagnosis, both gDNA and cDNA genotypes of amniotic fluid cells should be identified, and cord blood DHR assays should be performed to identify female XL-CGD patients. To investigate the vertical variation of microbial functional groups particular nitrogen fixers and ammonia oxidizers, sediment samples from a 155 cm deep peat profile were collected from the acidic Dajiuhu Peatland and subsequently subjected to clone library construction and quantification. Results showed that nifH gene abundance varied between 105–108 copies per gram dry sediment and reduced gradually with depth. The abundances of ammonia oxidizing archaea (AOA) and ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) abundance were generally comparable in each sample. More AOA was observed with a depth ≤55 cm, whereas AOB was more abundant with a depth >55 cm. Phylogenetically nifH could be divided into 94 OTUs which mainly affiliated with α-Proteobacteria. AOA were affiliated with Nitrosotalea from Group 1.1a associated (nearly 90%) and Nitrososphaera from Group I.1b. All AOB belonged to Nitrosospira. Notably, DJH11 with the depth of 50–55 cm was observed to have the highest abundance and the highest diversity of nitrogen fixers and ammonia oxidizers among all the samples. Pearson's correlation analysis showed a positive relationship between water content and pH with the nifH gene abundance. The Yawan Sb deposit is a large deposit located in the Xihe County, Gansu, northwestern China. Ore bodies are hosted in the Triassic limestone and are controlled by the NE- trending faults, occurring as lamellar, lenticular, veined, and lentil. Based on the cutting relationship between veins and mineral assemblages, the ore-forming process can be divided into four stages: I) pyrite + stibnite + milky quartz stage, II) stibnite + pyrite + gray-black cryptocrystalline quartz stage, III) stibnite + calcite + fluorite stage, and IV) clear and colorless calcite stage. The δ34S values (−2.5 ‰ to 5.8 ‰) of sulfides from stage II are similar to those associated with magmatic systems, but significantly different from the values (δ34S = −12.8 ‰ to 18.8 ‰) of pyrites from strata, suggesting that magmatic sulfur was the source for S2− in stage II. The δ34S values (−9.5 ‰ to −7.5 ‰) of stibnites from stage III are depleted in 34S relative to those of stage II, probably due to the increasingly mixing of meteoric water and SO 4 2− from the strata. The Pb isotopes of sulfides from stage II and III (206Pb/204Pb = 17.745–19.176, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.478–15.711, 208Pb/204Pb = 37.7–38.742) show a mixed source of crust and mantle. The δ13C and δ18O values of calcites range from −0.84 ‰ to 3.94 ‰ and from 4.74 ‰ to 13.24 ‰, respectively, indicating that the ore-forming fluids originated from magmatic water, but influenced by water-rock interaction and meteoric water in the late stage. The Sm Nd isochron age of five calcite simples from stage III is 199.9 ± 1.7 Ma (MSWD = 1.6) with initial ε Nd values of −8.4, indicating that Yawan Sb deposit formed in the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic. On the basis of the data obtained in this paper, we consider that the Yawan Sb deposit is a distal magmatic-hydrothermal deposit formed during the transitional tectonic regime from the syn -collision to post-collision. Combined with previous studies, future exploration should focus on the distal magmatic-hydrothermal Sb deposits controlled by faults around concealed granites, and skarn-type deposits also need attention in Yawan-Daqiao district. • The Yawan Sb deposit is a distal magmatic-hydrothermal deposit. • Ore-forming components originally derived from deep magmas. • The dating of calcite intergrown with stibnite indicates that the Yawan Sb deposit was formed at 199.9 Ma. The aim of this study was to develop and validate the large intestine dampness-heat syndrome questionnaire (LIDHSQ) for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). The domains and items of the LIDHSQ were developed according to standard procedures, namely, construct definition, item generation, language testing, content validity, pilot study, and validation study. At first, a total of 20 items in 3 domains were generated based on literature review and expert consultation. After the item selection, the LIDHSQ contains 11 items in three domains: disease-related domain (diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody purulent stool, and mucus stool), heat domain (fever, dry mouth, red tongue, yellow fur, and anal burning), and dampness domain (greasy fur and defecation disorder). The Cronbach's alphas of all domains were greater than 0.6. All of the intraclass correlation coefficients were greater than 0.8. The LIDHSQ and domain scores of the patients with LIDHS were higher than those of the patients with other syndromes (P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the LIDHSQ was 0.900, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.872–0.928. When the cut-off value of the LIDHSQ was ≥ 7, the sensitivity and specificity were 0.867 and 0.854, respectively. The LIDHSQ is valid and reliable for measuring LIDHS in UC patients with good diagnostic efficacy. We recommend the use of the LIDHSQ in Chinese UC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The advantages and disadvantages of three-dimensional (3 D) and two-dimensional (2 D) two-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery ( VATS) lobectomy and systematic dissection of mediastinal lymph nodes for lung cancer were investigated. Methods Between December 2013 and July 2015 at Beijing Hospital, 191 patients underwent lobectomy and systematic dissection of mediastinal lymph nodes for lung cancer. After applying the study criteria, a total of 165 patients were included and allocated to 3 D ( n = 76) and 2 D ( n = 89) groups. Variables of the study design, including duration of surgery, volume of intraoperative bleeding, numbers and groups of lymph nodes dissected, drainage volume after surgery, duration of drainage tube insertion, hospitalization time after surgery, hospitalization costs, and complications, were recorded and analyzed. Intergroup differences for all data were compared and statistically analyzed. Results No statistical difference was found between the two groups with respect to duration of surgery, volume of intraoperative bleeding, drainage volume after surgery, duration of drainage tube insertion, hospitalization time after surgery, hospitalization costs, and complications ( P > 0.05). Additionally, there was no significant difference in the numbers and groups of all lymph nodes or N2 lymph nodes resected ( P > 0.05). Conclusion Lobectomy with systematic lymph node dissection can be undertaken with two ports using a 3 D thoracoscope, and presents similar results to the use of a traditional 2 D thoracoscope, at no greater hospitalization cost but with better operational perception and sensitivity during surgery. Accurate evaluation of uranium sources and identification of their spatiotemporal correlations with uranium deposits (or sinks) in sedimentary basins are important for exploring sandstone-type uranium deposits. This study examines the source-to-sink system of Mesozoic–Cenozoic sandstone-type uranium deposits in the Qaidam Basin (QB) through a literature review in conjunction with logging and seismic data and yields the following findings. (1) The uranium-supplying capacity of a source rock in the uranium source area depends on primarily its type and to a lesser extent, the tectonic zone where it is located and the episode during which it formed. (2) The initial uranium content, U 0 , is the core parameter for classifying and evaluating the uranium-supplying capacity of a source rock. At U 0 > 1.5 ppm, uranium begins to migrate from a source rock. The uranium variation coefficient, ΔU, and the amount of uranium migration, ΔUt, decrease continuously to –55 % and –5 ppm respectively as U 0 increases up to 9.5 ppm, which suggests that at most 5 ppm of uranium in the source rocks can migrate away. As U 0 increases beyond 9.5 ppm, ΔU and ΔUt fluctuate around –55 % and –7 ppm respectively, which suggests that approximately 7 ppm of the uranium in the source rocks can migrate away. (3) Of the different types of rocks, silicic igneous rocks (including both intrusive and volcanic igneous rocks) and granitic gneisses have the highest uranium-supplying capacity; intermediate igneous rocks and gneisses come second; mafic–ultramafic igneous rocks and the other metamorphic rocks (except granitic gneiss and gneiss) come third. Of the sub-source areas (tectonic zones), the western segment of the Eastern Kunlun and the Qiman Tagh have the highest uranium-supplying capacity; the Central and Southern Altyn Tagh come second; the others come third. (4) Uranium sources are the fundamental prerequisite for the formation of uranium sinks. Other geological factors control the specific formation process of uranium sinks as well as their spatiotemporal distribution patterns. For QB, the most economic and prospective uranium sink, Neogene formations of Gy anticline, was fed by the source areas which had the highest uranium-supplying capacity. This suggests that the Neogene of WEK anticline belt, Quaternary of Kumukol Basin and Qarqan River Basin are the most noteworthy metallogenic prospective areas. The uranium-source evaluation scheme and "source-to-sink" ore exploration approach introduced in this study have practical value for advancing the exploration of uranium deposits in sedimentary basins in northern China and other parts of the world. Doctoral graduate research performance (DRP) is recognized as one of the most critical indices for evaluation of the success of doctoral education. Doctoral graduates with high research performance directly reflect a higher ability in academic research and academic achievement. Consequently, identifying which factors influence DRP is potentially of great value. This topic is also challenging because of difficulties in identifying the impact factors on research performance and the feasibility of the relative data collection. This paper first examines the relationships between the indicators and DRP. After a review of previous literature, the focus is on the doctoral graduates' individual factors, advisor factors and learning performance. Data is collected from graduated doctors from the Science Schools of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Contrary to expectations, our findings indicate that, based on the Chinese context, learning performance does not appear to be strongly associated with research performance. Individual factors (status of academic origin) do have significant effect on DRP. The advisor factors (including academic status, academic experience and allocation of energy) show a relatively strong association with DRP, in terms of both the number of publications and the impact factor of Science Citation Index (SCI) cited journals. Background: The purpose of this study was to prospectively recruit patients treated with limb malformation and to explore the prevalence and the clinical and epidemiological features of Heart-Hand Syndrome (HHS) in China.Methods: The consecutive patients treated for congenital upper limb malformation in Beijing Ji Shui Tan Hospital from October 1st, 2016 to October 1st, 2019 were prospectively recruited. We reviewed the patients' medical records and identified patients with abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) and/or abnormal ultrasonic cardiogram as well as their basic demographic and clinical characteristics.Results: A total 1653 (1053 male and 600 female) patients with congenital upper extremity malformations were prospectively recruited. Among them, 200 (12.1%) had abnormal ultrasonic cardiogram (181patients, 10.9%) and/or abnormal ECG (19 patients, 1.1%). The commonest type of abnormal heart structure was atrial septal defect (69/181 38.1%), and the commonest abnormal ECG was wave patterns (7/19, 36.8%). HHS patients had a higher comorbidity rate (11%) than non-HHS patients (6.9%). Patients with HHS were classified into four groups by the types of congenital upper extremity malformations, among which the most common group was thumb type (121/200, 60.5%).Conclusions: HHS occurred frequently among patients with congenital upper extremity malformation in China, particularly for those with multiple congenital malformations. Abstract: Objective: To introduce the experience of aeromedical transport of critically burned patients in Northwest China and to explore the time and conditions of transport. Methods: From August 1992 to July 2003, eight sorties of aeromedical transport of critically burned patients in Northwest China were analyzed. Results: Eighteen critically burned patients were safely transported to destination. Their total burn surface areas (TBSA) were 49–95%, and their full-thickness burn surface areas were 41–92%. Escharotomies on the chest and extremities were performed in 6 patients and 28 extremities, respectively. All patients were accompanied by inhalation injury. Among them, tracheostomy was carried out in 12 patients with moderate and severe inhalation injury. Of 18 patients, 4 patients were transported with shock and 14 patients were transported after resuscitation. Conclusion: It is safe to transport critically burned patients after resuscitation. Furthermore, it is also safe to perform aeromedical transport during shock with caution and good preparation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
