The article discusses the emergence of women on the boards of directors of European companies. It focuses on international lawyer Noëlle Lenoir, a highly-accomplished professional and board member of the insurance group Generali. Survey statistics are provided on women board members in several European countries and Norway is noted for having enacted a quota on women directorships. European-workplace gender imbalances are attributed to historical social and cultural norms. Boardrooms in the U.S. and Great Britain are said to be better-balanced with respect to gender composition.
