We identified cDNA encoding a functional ghrelin receptor (growth hormone secretagogue-receptor 1a (GHS-R1a)) in a urodele amphibian, the Japanese fire belly newt ( Cynops pyrrhogaster ). Two functional receptor proteins, composed of 378- and 362-amino acids, were deduced from the identified cDNA because two candidate initiation methionine sites were found. The long-chain receptor protein shared 80%, 69%, and 59% identities with the bullfrog GHS-R1a, human GHS-R1a and tilapia GHS-R1a-like receptor, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that the newt receptor is grouped to the clade of the tetrapod homologs, and very closed to anuran amphibians. In functional analyses, homologous newt ghrelin, heterologous bullfrog and rat ghrelin, and a GHS-R1a agonist, GHRP-6 increased intracellular Ca 2 + concentration in human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells stably expressed newt GHS-R1a. The responsiveness was much greater in the short-chain receptor than in the long-chain receptor. Both receptors preferred to bind Ser 3 -ghrelin including newt and rat ghrelin than Thr 3 -ghrelin with bullfrog ghrelin. GHRP-6 has a similar affinity to bullfrog ghrelin. GHS-R1a mRNA was expressed in the brain, pituitary, intestine, pancreas, testis and fat body with high level, and eyes, heart, stomach, liver, gall bladder, kidney and dorsal skin with low level. In a fasting experiment, gene expression of GHS-R1a in the brain and pituitary increased 4 days after fasting, and the increased level decreased to the initial level 2 weeks after fasting. These changes are consistent with the change in ghrelin mRNA. In contrast, expression of ghrelin and GHS-R1a mRNA in the stomach decreased on day 4 after fasting, and increased 2 weeks after fasting. Previously, we reported that exogenous administration of ghrelin ameliorates glucose metabolism in a neonate streptozotocin (STZ)- induced diabetic rat model through enhancement of β-cell proliferation. However, it was not clear whether the observed β-cell proliferation was a direct or indirect effect (e.g., via orexigenic or growth hormone-stimulated pathways) of ghrelin activity. Here, we aimed to investigate whether ghrelin directly impacts β-cell proliferation after STZ-induced injury in mice. Seven-week-old male rat insulin II promoter-ghrelin internal ribosomal sequence ghrelin O-acyltransferase transgenic (RIP-GG Tg) mice, which have elevated pancreatic ghrelin levels, but only minor changes in plasma ghrelin levels when fed a medium-chain triglyceride-rich diet, were treated with STZ. Then, serum insulin, pancreatic insulin mRNA expression, and islet histology were evaluated. We found that the serum insulin levels, but not blood glucose levels, of RIP-GG Tg mice were significantly ameliorated 14 days post-STZ treatment. Pancreatic insulin mRNA expression was significantly elevated in RIP-GG Tg mice, and β-cell numbers in islets were increased. Furthermore, the number of phos-phohistone H3+ or Ki67+ proliferating β-cells was significantly elevated in RIP-GG Tg mice, whereas the apoptotic indexes within the islets, as determined by TUNEL assay, were not changed. These results indicate that ghrelin can directly stimulate β-cell proliferation in vivo after β-cell injury even without its orexigenic or GHstimulating activities, although it did not have enough impact to normalize the glucose tolerance in adult mice. Neuromedin S (NMS) is a neuropeptide identified as another endogenous ligand for two orphan G protein-coupled receptors, FM-3/GPR66 and FM-4/TGR-1, which have also been identified as types 1 and 2 receptors for neuromedin U structurally related to NMS. Although expression of NMS mRNA is found mainly in the brain, spleen, and testis, the distribution of its peptide has not yet been investigated. Using a newly prepared antiserum, we developed a highly sensitive radioimmunoassay for rat NMS. NMS peptide was clearly detected in the rat brain at a concentration of 68.3 ± 3.4 fmol/g wet weight, but it was hardly detected in the spleen and testis. A high content of NMS peptide was found in the hypothalamus, midbrain, and pons-medulla oblongata, whereas abundant expression of NMS mRNA was detected only in the hypothalamus. These differing distributions of the mRNA and peptide suggest that nerve fibers originating from hypothalamic NMS neurons project into the midbrain, pons, or medulla oblongata. In addition, abundant expression of type 2 receptor mRNA was detected not only in the hypothalamus, but also in the midbrain and pons-medulla oblongata. Ghrelin, an appetite-promoting peptide secreted from the stomach, is reported to enhance preprandial acid output, possibly through stimulation of the cephalic phase. The present study was designed to clarify the dynamics of ghrelin in H2 receptor (H2R)-null mice by genetic H2R knockout. Fifteen-week- and 54-week-old H2R-null mice and their littermates were used. After evaluating the levels of food intake and body-weight increments, mice were killed, and the plasma and gastric active and total ghrelin levels were examined by radioimmunoassay, and gastric preproghrelin mRNA expression was examined by quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, each stomach specimen was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscopy for ghrelin. The levels of food intake and body-weight gain of the H2R-null mice were higher than those of wild-type mice. The gastric pH of the 54-week-old H2R-null mice was lower than that of the 15-week-old mice. Gastric preproghrelin mRNA expression, plasma ghrelin level, and density of ghrelin-immunoreactive cells in the gastric mucosa of the H2R-null mice were significantly increased compared with those of the wild-type mice. Ghrelin-positive immunogold density seen in the electron micrograph was significantly reduced in A-like cells of the H2R-null mouse stomach. Obesity is characterized by markedly decreased ghrelin and growth hormone (GH) secretion. Ghrelin is a GH-stimulating, stomach-derived peptide that also has orexigenic action. Ghrelin supplement may restore decreased GH secretion in obesity, but it may worsen obesity by its orexigenic action. To reveal effects of ghrelin administration on obese animals, we first examined acute GH and orexigenic responses to ghrelin in three different obese and/or diabetic mouse models: db/db mice, mice on a high-fat diet (HFD mice), and Akita mice for comparison. GH responses to ghrelin were significantly suppressed in db/db, HFD, and Akita mice. Food intake of db/db and Akita mice were basally higher, and further stimulation of food intake by ghrelin was suppressed. Pituitary GH secretagogue receptor mRNA levels in db/db and HFD mice were significantly decreased, which may partly contribute to decreased GH response to ghrelin in these mice. In Akita mice for comparison, decreased hypothalamic GH-releasing hormone (GHRH) mRNA levels may be responsible for decreased GH response, since maximum GH response to ghrelin needs GHRH. When ghrelin was injected into HFD mice with GHRH coadministrated, GH responses to ghrelin were significantly emphasized. HFD mice injected with low-dose ghrelin and GHRH for 10 days did not show weight gain. Ghrelin, produced and secreted by the A-like cells of the stomach, stimulates growth hormone secretion, gastric motility, and food intake. Cysteamine inhibits the release of somatostatin and induces the formation of duodenal ulcers in rats. The present study was conducted to investigate the dynamics of ghrelin secretion in rats treated with cysteamine. Male Wistar rats (7 wk old) were administered three doses of cysteamine (400 mg/kg) orally; at 50 h after the first dose, duodenal ulcers were induced, and the plasma level of somatostatin and gastric density of somatostatin-immunoreactive cells were significantly reduced. The plasma total and active ghrelin levels were significantly higher in the cysteamine-treated rats than in the control rats, whereas the gastric ghrelin levels, number of gastric ghrelin-immunoreactive cells, and preproghrelin mRNA expression levels were significantly lower. Even at the time points of 2 and 10 h after the first dose of cysteamine, at which time no significant ulcer formation or antral neutrophil accumulation was yet noted, a significant increase in the plasma ghrelin level and decrease in the gastric ghrelin level were observed. Furthermore, although lansoprazole treatment attenuated the duodenal ulceration induced by cysteamine, the increase in the plasma level of ghrelin could still be demonstrated. Because an inverse correlation was found between the plasma ghrelin and somatostatin levels, the inhibition of somatostatin secretion may be associated with the increased ghrelin secretion. Abstract: Expression of mRNA for the ghrelin receptor, GHS-R1a, was detected in various peripheral and central tissues of fetal rats, including skin, bone, heart, liver, gut, brain and spinal cord, on embryonic day (ED)15 and ED17. However, its expression in skin, bone, heart and liver, but not in gut, brain and spinal cord, became relatively weak on ED19 and disappeared after birth (ND2). Ghrelin and des-acyl ghrelin facilitated the proliferation of cultured fetal (ED17, 19), but not neonatal (ND2), skin cells. On the other hand, with regard to cells from the spinal cord and hypothalamus, the proliferative effect of ghrelin continued after birth, whereas the effect of des-acyl ghrelin on neurogenesis in these tissues was lost at the ED19 fetal and ND2 neonatal stages. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the cells in the hypothalamus induced to proliferate by ghrelin at the ND2 stage were positive for nestin and glial fibrillary acidic protein. These results suggest that in the period immediately prior to, and after birth, rat fetal cells showing proliferation in response to ghrelin and des-acyl ghrelin are at a transitional stage characterized by alteration of the expression of GHS-R1a and an undefined des-acyl ghrelin receptor, their responsiveness varying among different tissues. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a life-threatening disease characterized by progressive PAH and right ventricular failure. Despite recent advances in therapeutic approaches using prostanoids, endothelin antagonists, and so on, PAH remains a challenging condition. To develop a novel therapeutic approach, we have established a nonviral gene delivery system of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based block catiomers, which form a polyplex nanomicelle with a nanoscaled core–shell structure in the presence of DNA. The polyplex nanomicelle from PEG-b-poly{N-[N-(2-aminoethyl)-2-aminoethyl]aspartamide} (PEG-b-P[Asp(DET)]), having ethylenediamine units at the side chain, showed ~100-fold increase in luciferase transgene expression activity in mouse lung via intratracheal administration with a minimal toxicity compared with the polyplex from linear poly(ethylenimine) (LPEI). The transfection activity was highest on day 3 after administration and remained detectable until day 14. PEG-b-P[Asp(DET)] polyplex nanomicelles were formulated with a therapeutic plasmid bearing the human adrenomedullin (AM) gene and intratracheally administered to rats with monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension. The right ventricular pressure significantly decreased 3 days after administration as confirmed by a notable increase of pulmonary human AM mRNA levels. Abstract: Intracerebroventricular (ICV) and intraperitoneal (IP) administration of n-octanoic acid-modified ghrelin stimulates food intake in the goldfish. We examined the involvement of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the orexigenic action of ghrelin using a NPY Y1-receptor antagonist, BIBP-3226. Food intake induced by ICV or IP injection of ghrelin was suppressed by ICV preinjection of BIBP-3226 for 1h. We then examined whether ghrelin affects the expression of NPY mRNA in the goldfish brain using a real-time PCR method. ICV, but not IP, administration of ghrelin at a dose sufficient to stimulate food intake increased the expression of brain NPY mRNA obtained from 2h after treatment. These results indicate that the orexigenic action of central ghrelin is mediated by the release of NPY in the brain with stimulating NPY synthesis, and that peripheral ghrelin also stimulates food intake via brain NPY pathway. Abstract: The structure of ghrelin has been determined in the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica. In this study, we identified immunoreactive ghrelin in extracts from plasma and stomach of the eel by radioimmunoassay (RIA) using an antiserum against octanoylated rat ghrelin [1–11]. Using the antiserum, we examined localization of ghrelin-immunopositive cells in the eel stomach. Detection of ghrelin mRNA-expressing cells was also attempted in the eel stomach using a cRNA probe specific for the eel ghrelin gene. Furthermore, we examined ghrelin expression patterns in plasma and stomach after transfer of freshwater (FW) eels to seawater (SW). Multiple types of immunoreactive ghrelin were detected using RIA. These were octanoylated eel ghrelin and other ghrelins that may have different fatty acid modifications, suggesting that this RIA can detect acylated ghrelin of eels as seen previously in the case of rat. Ghrelin-immunopositive cells were observed in the mucosal layer of the stomach, especially in the neck of the fundic gland. Ghrelin mRNA-expressing cells showed similar distribution and characteristics to the immunopositive cells. Plasma ghrelin levels in FW eels starved for one week before experimentation were approximately 40fmol/ml. Plasma ghrelin levels in control-transferred FW eels did not change for 7 days, but significantly increased on day 14. Plasma ghrelin levels transiently increased fivefold 6h after SW transfer and then declined to the FW level by 24h after transfer. Ghrelin content and ghrelin mRNA levels in the stomach did not change after SW transfer, except for a transient decrease in ghrelin content seen 24h after transfer. Abstract: In this study, we established a radioimmunoassay (RIA) specific for ghrelin from the bullfrog Rana catesbeiana using a novel antibody raised against the C-terminal amino acid sequence of bullfrog ghrelin [13–28]. We also examined the distribution of ghrelin-producing cells in the stomachs of bullfrogs using this antibody and a cRNA probe specific for the bullfrog ghrelin gene. Ghrelin levels in plasma and stomach extracts were approximately 150fmol/ml and 83–135fmol/mg wet tissue, respectively. Reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatographic analysis, combined with bullfrog ghrelin RIA, revealed that ghrelin immunoreactivity in the stomach was composed of non-acylated ghrelin (des-acyl ghrelin) and several acylated forms of ghrelin bearing different fatty acid modifications, which could induce increases in intracellular Ca2+ in cells expressing the rat GH secretagogue receptor. In the stomach, the major storage form was acylated ghrelin. In bullfrog plasma, however, the majority of ghrelin immunoreactivity was des-acyl ghrelin and C-terminal fragments of frog ghrelin. Acylated ghrelin forms comprised only minor peaks. Ghrelin-immunopositive and ghrelin mRNA-expressing cells were observed within the mucosal layer of the stomach. Following starvation, significant increases in plasma ghrelin levels and stomach ghrelin mRNA levels were observed as early as 10 days after starvation. These results indicate that ghrelin is present in the stomach and plasma of the bullfrog, which can be detected with our novel antibody. Interestingly, the primary storage form of ghrelin in the stomach differed from the circulating form dominating in the plasma. Furthermore, increases in ghrelin levels in plasma and mRNA levels in the stomach after starvation suggest the possible involvement of ghrelin in energy homeostasis in the bullfrog. Abstract: We report the isolation and structural characterization of two neuromedin S (NmS) analogs, (NmS-17 and NmS-33), from the dermal venoms of Eurasian bombinid toads. NmS is a novel neuromedin U (NmU)-related peptide with potent anorexigenic and circadian rhythm-modulating properties recently discovered in mammals. Cloning of NmS precursor-encoding cDNAs from skin venom-derived libraries revealed the presence of a high degree of transcript splice variation comparable to that found previously for NmU in both amphibian skin and mammalian brain. Synthetic replicates of both amphibian NmS peptides evoked robust and dose-dependent transient increases in intracellular calcium ion concentrations in CHO cells that had been stably transfected with either FM-3/GPR66 or FM-4/TGR-1 human NmU receptors. The potency and efficacy of these amphibian skin peptides at such receptors were comparable to those observed with human NmS and rat NmS. These data show that NmS and NmU genes had already diverged at the level of the Amphibia and that differential splicing of their transcribed mRNAs has been highly conserved throughout tetrapod vertebrate evolution indicative of fundamental biological function. Abstract: Ghrelin is implicated in growth and feeding regulation in fish. The influence of ghrelin on behavior has not been well studied and the physiological role of des-fatty acid modification of this peptide is unclear. Therefore, the effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) and intraperitoneal (IP) administration of synthetic n-octanoylated (acyl) goldfish ghrelin and des-n-octanoylated (des-acyl) ghrelin on locomotor and orexigenic activity in the goldfish were examined. ICV administration of acyl ghrelin at doses of 1 and 2pmol/g body weight (BW) and IP administration at 16pmol/g BW both induced significant increases in locomotor activity during for 45–60min after treatment. Cumulative food intake was significantly increased by ICV injection of acyl ghrelin at doses of 1 and 2pmol/g BW and IP injection at 8 and 16pmol/g BW during the 60-min post-treatment observation period. In contrast, ICV and IP administration of des-acyl ghrelin produced no changes in locomotor and orexigenic activity. We also analyzed fasting-induced changes in the expression of ghrelin mRNA in the brain and intestine using a real-time PCR method. The level of ghrelin mRNA in the intestine, but not in the brain, obtained from fish fasted for 7 days was significantly higher than that in fish that had been fed normally. These results suggest that, in the goldfish, acyl ghrelin, but not des-acyl ghrelin, stimulates locomotor activity and enhances food intake via central and peripheral pathways. Abstract: Ghrelin, an acylated peptide originally identified in rat stomach as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R), stimulates both food intake and growth hormone (GH) secretion. Ghrelin is predominantly synthesized by a subset of endocrine cells in the oxyntic gland of human and rat stomach. Previous studies using immunohistochemistry have shown that ghrelin is also present in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, a region critical for the control of feeding and GH secretion, but its expression pattern in this region and the details of its molecular form has yet to be clarified. In this report, we examined the presence of ghrelin in the arcuate nucleus using reverse-phase liquid chromatography combined with radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immunohistochemistry. Neurons in the arcuate nucleus were observed to react positively to ghrelin antibodies. In addition, we confirmed the existence of ghrelin mRNA expression using the reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT–PCR). We also observed the colocalization of GHS-R with neuropeptide Y (NPY) and growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) in the arcuate nucleus. The present study clearly indicates that ghrelin is synthesized in the arcuate nucleus, which will further our understanding of ghrelin''s actions in the central nervous system, including feeding behavior and GH secretion. Abstract: It is known that, in rats, central and peripheral ghrelin increases food intake mainly through activation of neuropeptide Y (NPY) neurons. In contrast, intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of ghrelin inhibits food intake in neonatal chicks. We examined the mechanism governing this inhibitory effect in chicks. The ICV injection of ghrelin or corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), which also inhibits feeding and causes hyperactivity in chicks. Thus, we examined the interaction of ghrelin with CRF and the hypothalamo-pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. The ICV injection of ghrelin increased plasma corticosterone levels in a dose-dependent or a time-dependent manner. Co-injection of a CRF receptor antagonist, astressin, attenuated ghrelin-induced plasma corticosterone increase and anorexia. In addition, we also investigated the effect of ghrelin on NPY-induced food intake and on expression of hypothalamic NPY mRNA. Co-injection of ghrelin with NPY inhibited NPY-induced increase in food intake, and the ICV injection of ghrelin did not change NPY mRNA expression. These results indicate that central ghrelin does not interact with NPY as seen in rodents, but instead inhibits food intake by interacting with the endogenous CRF and its receptor. Abstract: Objective: We investigated the pathophysiological role of the renal adrenomedullin (AM) system, including the ligand, receptor, and amidating activity, in severe hypertensive rats. Method: We studied three groups: control Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY), spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats (SHR-SP), and diuretic-treated SHR-SP. We measured AM-mature, active form, and AM-total (active form+inactive form) in plasma and renal tissues, and mRNA levels of AM and AM receptor system components such as calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CRLR), receptor activity-modifying protein (RAMP) 2, and RAMP3 in renal tissues. Results: SHR-SP had higher blood pressure, plasma neurohumoral factors, and lower renal function than WKY. SHR-SP had higher AM-mature and AM-total levels in plasma and renal tissues than WKY. Although the plasma AM-mature/AM-total ratio was similar in the two groups, AM-mature/AM-total ratio in renal tissues was higher in SHR-SP than in WKY. In addition, mRNA levels of AM in the renal cortex and medulla and the mRNA levels of CRLR, RAMP2, and RAMP3 in the renal cortex were higher in SHR-SP than in WKY. Chronic diuretic treatment decreased blood pressure and improved kidney function and neurohumoral factors, with reductions in plasma and renal AM system. Following our recent observations of inactivity and slowed movement in neuromedin U knockout (NMU KO) mice, we compared nociceptive reflexes and environmental adaptation in NMU KO and wild-type mice. Hot plate and formalin tests revealed that reflexes to heat and pain were significantly decreased in NMU KO mice. Conversely, intracerebroventricular injection of NMU into wild-type mice stimulated nociceptive reflexes in a dose-dependent manner. After NMU injection, increased c-Fos expression was observed in a wide range of locations in hypothalamus, brainstem, and spinal cord. NMU mRNA expression increased in the spinal cord, but not in the hypothalamus, 2 and 4h after formalin injection. When their light–dark cycle was advanced or retarded by 5h, NMU KO mice required a longer time to re-entrain into the new light–dark cycle than did wild-type mice. Wild-type mice displayed increased blood pressure after their environmental temperature was changed from 23 to 37°C, whereas no such increase was observed in NMU KO mice. Blood corticosterone levels were significantly increased after 10min of immobilization stress in wild-type mice, but not in NMU KO mice. These results suggest that endogenous NMU may be involved in reflexes and adaptation to environmental stimuli. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Immunohistochemical analysis revealed the presence of a gut–brain peptide, neuromedin U (NMU), in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which is the site of the master circadian oscillator. The expression of NMU mRNA exhibited a circadian rhythm, with the peak expression in the SCN occurring at CT4–8 h. The two NMU-binding receptors (NMU-R1 and NMU-R2) were also expressed in the SCN, but their phase angles were different. Intracerebroventricular injection (ICV) of NMU induced the expression of Fos protein in the SCN cells and caused a phase-dependent phase shift of the circadian locomotor activity rhythm. The magnitude of the phase shift was dose dependent. This NMU-induced phase shift was of the nonphotic type. Quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis revealed increases in the expression in the SCN of immediate early genes, such as c-fos, NGFI-A, NGFI-B, and JunB. Furthermore, ICV injection of NMU increased the expression of Per1, but not Per2, in the SCN. These results indicate that NMU may play some important role in the circadian oscillator by exerting an autocrine or paracrine action in the SCN. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

We studied the effects of mycophenolate mofetil, a specific inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase, on the mercuric chloride induced autoimmune glomerulonephritis in Brown Norway rats and also on the renal contents of adrenomedullin. In the rats with autoimmune glomerulonephritis, plasma and renal tissue adrenomedullin levels were increased significantly. Coadministration of mycophenolate mofetil resulted in prevention of autoimmune glomerulonephritis and also in maintaining of plasma and renal tissue adrenomedullin levels at control levels. Adrenomedullin mRNA expressions in the renal cortex were also higher in the rats with autoimmune glomerulonephritis. Significant positive correlations were found between renal cortical adrenomedullin levels and urinary Na+ and N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase excretion. A significant negative correlation between renal cortical adrenomedullin levels and creatinine clearance was also found. These results suggest that mycophenolate mofetil suppresses the renal damage in rats with autoimmune glomerulonephritis and renal adrenomedullin may participate in the pathophysiology of autoimmune glomerulonephritis. : ObjectivesWe hypothesized that the plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) level reflects atrial degenerative change and may predict the outcome of the maze procedure.: BackgroundAlthough a larger preoperative left atrial dimension and longer duration of atrial fibrillation (AF) have been reported in patients with persistent AF than in those with sinus rhythm (SR), these individual factors were not enough to predict the outcome of the maze procedure.: MethodsPreoperative plasma ANP levels were measured in consecutive 62 patients who underwent the Kosakai’s modified maze procedure. Moreover, we performed histological and molecular biological examinations in the resected left atrial tissues.: ResultsThe preoperative plasma ANP was lower in the AF group (n = 13) than it was in the SR group (n = 49) (p < 0.001). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that duration of AF and plasma ANP were independently associated with postoperative cardiac rhythm. Among 41 patients with a higher plasma ANP or shorter duration of AF than the median value, SR was restored in 95% of patients. In contrast, in 21 patients with a lower plasma ANP and a longer duration of AF than the median value, SR was restored only in 48% of patients. Histological examination revealed that the collagen volume in the left atrial tissue was higher in AF than it was in SR and inversely correlated with plasma ANP. In addition, the messenger RNA expressions of ANP, collagen type I and type III were lower in AF than they were in SR.: ConclusionsThese results suggest that a combination of plasma ANP and/or duration of AF may predict the success rate for the maze operation.
