The concept of macromolecules, which is applied to synthetic and natural polymers, allows for various contemporary polymeric materials and inventive uses. A dynamic structure of macromolecules called the extracellular matrix (ECM) maintains tissues and organs functioning. The cell therapy procedure known as wound healing involves depositing ECM components such as collagen, fibronectin, and laminin. The clinical assessment and management of wounds remain challenging despite the introduction of numerous therapeutic regimens because of their laboriously prolonged treatment requirements and complex wound‐healing mechanisms using macromolecules of a specific type, such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. Additionally, proteins affect the wound site's mechanical characteristics, such as tensile strength, elasticity, and permeability, which impact the effectiveness and success of wound healing. The main goal of this article is to give a current overview of how therapeutic alternatives have evolved using cutting‐edge innovative techniques for the healing and treatment of wounds. [Display omitted] Diabetic wounds (DWs) pose a significant health burden worldwide, with their management presenting numerous challenges. Biopolymeric formulations have recently gained attention as promising therapeutic approaches for diabetic wound healing. These formulations, composed of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers, offer unique properties such as controlled drug release, enhanced wound closure, and reduced scarring. In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research and future prospects regarding the application of biopolymeric formulations for diabetic wound healing. The review begins by highlighting the underlying pathophysiology of DWs, including impaired angiogenesis, chronic inflammation, and compromised extracellular matrix (ECM) formation. It further explores the key characteristics of biopolymeric materials, such as their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and tunable physicochemical properties, which make them suitable for diabetic wound healing applications. The discussion further delves into the types of biopolymeric formulations utilized in the treatment of DWs. These include hydrogels, nanoparticles (NP), scaffolds, films, and dressings. Furthermore, the review addresses the challenges associated with biopolymeric formulations for diabetic wound healing. In conclusion, biopolymeric formulations present a promising avenue for diabetic wound healing. Their unique properties and versatility allow for tailored approaches to address the specific challenges associated with DWs. However, further research and developments are required to optimize their therapeutic efficacy, stability, manufacturing processes, and regulatory considerations. For many years esthetic medicine has successfully used botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) for wrinkle reduction, as it weakens the action of neurotransmitters in the neuromuscular junction. Thanks to its other properties it can also be used in treatment of scars. In vitro studies showed that BTXA inhibits fibroblast proliferation, viability and modulates the expression of genes responsible for the formation of the extracellular matrix, thus reducing hypertrophic scars and keloids. The Authors present the many uses of botulinum toxin in treatment of scars. Numerous cases and research proved the efficacy of botulinum toxin both in the treatment and prevention of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Research proves that the use of small doses of BTXA in the perioperative period reduces scars and increases their overall esthetics. Botulinum toxin, is effective in treating already existing abnormal scars, especially when used as an element of a more complex treatment schemes. The available evidence proves the efficacy of BTXA in the treatment of scars, although further research is needed in order to establish optimal treatment indications and protocols. Abstract: In the last years, health care professionals faced with an increasing number of patients suffering from wounds and burns difficult to treat and heal. During the wound healing process, the dressing protects the injury and contributes to the recovery of dermal and epidermal tissues. Because their biocompatibility, biodegradability and similarity to macromolecules recognized by the human body, some natural polymers such as polysaccharides (alginates, chitin, chitosan, heparin, chondroitin), proteoglycans and proteins (collagen, gelatin, fibrin, keratin, silk fibroin, eggshell membrane) are extensively used in wounds and burns management. Obtained by electrospinning technique, some synthetic polymers like biomimetic extracellular matrix micro/nanoscale fibers based on polyglycolic acid, polylactic acid, polyacrylic acid, poly-ɛ-caprolactone, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, exhibit in vivo and in vitro wound healing properties and enhance re-epithelialization. They provide an optimal microenvironment for cell proliferation, migration and differentiation, due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, peculiar structure and good mechanical properties. Thus, synthetic polymers are used also in regenerative medicine for cartilage, bone, vascular, nerve and ligament repair and restoration. Biocompatible with fibroblasts and keratinocytes, tissue engineered skin is indicated for regeneration and remodeling of human epidermis and wound healing improving the treatment of severe skin defects or partial-thickness burn injuries. Advanced wound care implies the use of products or procedures that are specialized. Although dermatologists are used to being specialists of the skin, hair, and nails, chronic wound care has evolved such that there are some specific treatment options that are more commonly ordered and performed in wound care clinics. Wound care clinics are staffed by specialists and generalists including dermatologists, but also orthopedic surgeons, vascular surgeons, infectious disease specialists, internists, family practitioners, hyperbaric oxygen-trained physicians from a variety of backgrounds, podiatrists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. The care of chronic wounds has almost become its own specialty, with so-called advanced therapies now including the use of growth factors, extracellular matrices, engineered skin, and negative pressure wound therapy. It is critical that the dermatologists understand the treatments such that they can appropriately apply or order them directly, or be involved with the care of their patients receiving these therapies.
