The article examines the regional landscape of Albury from the time of the Aborigines to the development as a city that emerged from a country setting as of November 2007. The place took on the appearance of a metropolitan centre in a remote suburb after the second world war, when it was declared a city. Under the Whitlam Government and Albury Wodonga Development Corp., urban and regional development projects that addressed environmental issues were undertaken. This led to a well planned growth centre that has a high respect for environmental values.
