The aim of the paper is to establish the future intervention priorities in building a new programme that would target the economic development in the research area. The used methodology included an adapted A'WOT analysis - an initial SWOT analysis and a prioritization of the items through an expert questionnaire. In the present paper we analyze the experts' opinions and the areas where intervention is needed for the optimum strategies for the 2014-2020 financial frame. These should rely on the strengths in the Guidelines for Applicants, the rules for projects implementation and the institutional system, it should consider changes on the weak points concerning the programme objectives, the Guidelines for Applicants and the beneficiaries consultations, it should make use of opportunities coming from the crossborder status, European Union frame and economic opportunities and overcome the differences coming from crossborder status, membership of two different supranational structures and the economic gaps. This paper identifies methodologies and strategies appropriate for the development of indicators of well-being at the level of subnational regions, thus contributing towards the incorporation of the subnational dimension into public policy making. Considerations in adapting and augmenting country-level indicators for application at the regional level are discussed. Special technical procedures involved in this process are described. These include consolidation of measures defined with reference to different poverty line thresholds in the income distribution, cumulation of data or measures over multiple survey waves and use of small area estimation methods. The intention of the following paper is to present some stylized features of the financial integration of the four basin regions composed by the Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Mediterranean Sea regions. It discusses the developments, trends and features of the International Investment Position (IIP) in the regions. Using volume based indicators we compare and identify the gaps in them, whilst distinguishing between the EU e non-EU members and providing an overview of the asymmetries and the convergence as a result of the integration in the different financial markets. This paper explores the concept of regional disparities in the European Union (EU) and challenges the present regional classification. The EU Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, referred to by the French acronym NUTS, is very heterogeneous in character. Tiny islands, cities, large rural regions and entire countries are considered to be comparable units for analysis. A reformulation of regional boundaries and the comparison to the US case helps to show that regional disparities within the EU are overstated as an artifact of the present regional definitions. Our findings show that the EU regional nomenclature should be more coherent if it is to be used as the basis for regional development policies. CASELLAS A. et GALLEY C. C. Trust links ordinary citizens to the institutions that are intended to represent them, and thereby enhances both the legitimacy and the effectiveness of democratic government. In this article we investigate whether economic performance affects political trust and if the 2007–2008 financial crisis has decreased confidence levels due to the severity of its consequences. We employ multilevel modeling to analyze data from 25 European countries taken from the European Social Survey, combined with economic indicators from the World Bank and the international Monetary Fund. Our results show that economic performance is an important decider of people's levels of trust. We are also able to conclude that the financial crisis has reduced citizen's trust in political institutions in those countries where the crisis has had a severe impact on the economy. One of the most important components of the European financial system is represented by the banking sector, especially in the case of the new EU member states, where the economy is almost exclusively financed through this channel. The banking integration process thus has a vital importance for the creation of a fully functional and efficient European Union. In this context, the aim of our research is to underline the main characteristics regarding the development and integration of the new EU member countries banking sector, especially taking into account the recent events determined by the global financial crisis and its aftermath. In order to achieve this, we have used a qualitative analysis based on structural indicators of the banking system that underline the main characteristics of the analysed countries. An article is presented that reports on the economic performance and conditions of member states of the European Union (EU) outside of the zone for the euro in 2009. The article discusses the role of these EU countries in the global economy, describing their capital and credit during the 2008-2009 global financial crisis and recession. Economic indicators in the euro area provide information on recessions in countries such as Latvia and Lithuania with respect to growth rates, employment, and inflation. Information is also provided on public finance, economic bubbles, and debt.

The article discusses issues concerning the flexicurity policies in Europe. It examines the performance of the European labor market as well as different labor market experience. It also outlines the different varieties of social models, such as the European Social Model (ESM). Moreover, it discusses the amendments on the European Employment Strategy (EES) in 2008, which was based on the opportunities and risks of the flexicurity strategy. It emphasizes that the flexicurity model, if implemented correctly, could be used as a resolution to the unemployment problem in the region.
