Abstract

The article explores how tourism is portrayed in contemporary Atlantic-Canadian literature. The ways in which tourism is highlighted amount to commodifying underdevelopment and affords valuable lessons about the economic, political, and cultural tensions are highlighted in many contemporary Atlantic Canadian writing. The author says that tourism appears to be a preoccupation of writers in the region. Tourism is also portrayed in Atlantic-Canadian literature as more than a physical imposition.

Abstract

Presents an interview with Canadian writer Lisa Moore. When asked about why there has been conspicuous surge in Newfoundland literature, she said that people want new landscape in literature and Newfoundland writers provided a landscape at the right moment. She comments on the role of tourism in relation to commercializing culture. Furthermore, she believes that writing is a redemptive act because they reap from experience when they write.
