Health policy and academic discourses on rare diseases and people with rare conditions frequently employ terms such as 'low prevalence' and 'unique' to characterize the smallness of the population under consideration and to justify targeted action toward these patient groups. This paper draws from recent anthropological scholarship on smallness and data, ethnographic research in Finland and Poland, as well as document and media analysis to examine how data is utilized in the context of isolated populations that are considered sites of rare diseases in these two countries. Specifically, this paper juxtaposes the notion of Finnish Disease Heritage (FDH) with that of a 'Kashubian gene' in Poland. The concept of FDH was developed by Finnish researchers in the 1970s; it encompasses almost forty rare hereditary diseases that are significantly more prevalent in Finland than elsewhere globally. On the other hand, the notion of the 'Kashubian gene' was first utilized by the media and some members of the Polish medical community around 2008. Based on 'unstable' data gathered during genetic research, the term referred to the high prevalence of a rare metabolic disorder (Long-Chain 3-Hydroxyacyl-CoA Dehydrogenase (LCHAD) deficiency) among Kashubians, an ethnic minority that resides in Northern Poland's Pomerania region. Whereas FDH facilitated the production and branding of 'a unique Finnish genetic identity' (Tupasela 2016b, 61), the notion of the 'Kashubian gene' has engendered health policy interventions targeting members of this ethnic minority and has contributed to stigmatizing practices carried out against Kashubians. Introduction: Scientometric studies help scientists to identify research gaps and plan future research. There is no scientometric assessment of research on childhood onset type 1 diabetes (T1D), despite an intensive research in this field over the past 2 decades. Aim of the study: To provide a scientometric assessment of global research output in pediatric T1D. Material and methods: Publications on pediatric T1D indexed in Scopus database over the 20-year period from 2000 to 2019 were examined. The most productive and impactful countries, organizations and authors, trends in research, the media of publications and characteristics of high cited publications were identified using appropriate bibliographic tools. Results: Pediatric T1D research registered 7.84% and 79.99% annual and 10-year cumulative growth and averaged 19.35 citations per paper (CPP). The field witnessed an uneven participation of 141 countries, wherein 82.67% of the global research output share came from top 10 countries. USA leads the ranking with 29.76% share, followed by UK (10.56%), Germany, Italy, Sweden and Australia (5.15% to 7.88%), and Poland, Finland, Canada and Denmark (3.04% to 4.24%). Five countries which registered relative citation index (RCI) higher than their group average of 1.63 were Finland (2.30), UK (1.82), Canada (1.77), Denmark and USA (1.74 each). The number of participating organizations and authors was 3627 and 5596 respectively. Conclusions: The USA and Finland are the most productive and the most impactful countries respectively in global pediatric T1D research. Purpose: This study aims to map the major research constituents and trends for the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing (JBIM) during its 34-year history (1986–2019). It also identifies JBIM's thematic structure and the key factors affecting the impact of its articles. Design/methodology/approach: The Scopus database is used to identify the bibliographic data of JBIM. The most prolific authors, institutions and countries in the journal are analyzed through weighted distributions of articles. The thematic structure of the journal is evaluated by means of bibliographic coupling analysis. The study also examines the factors influencing citations of JBIM articles through regression modeling. Findings: JBIM publishes contributions from around the world, though the most prolific contributors are affiliated with the USA, UK and Finland. Thematic analysis divided JBIM articles into five major themes. Citation analysis reveals that article age, special issue appearance, number of author keywords and number of references are prominent factors explaining an article's impact. Research limitations/implications: This study uses data from the Scopus database, and limitations of the database have implications for the findings. Background Imbalances in registered nurse (RN) supply and demand is a global, significant and recurring issue that impacts on healthcare systems, organizations, staff and patients. Method Policy Review using resources located by a systematic search of relevant healthcare databases and policies in Danish, English, Finnish and Portuguese over the time period 2003-2007. Content analysis was used to identify themes and compare policies. Results Common nursing workforce policy themes were identified across the five countries: (1) improving retention through effective human resource management, improving the practice environment and nurses' working lives and (2) improving recruitment through attracting more new recruits and RNs back to practice, and international recruitment. The present study also identified methodological issues relating to data quality and quantity. Lack of an agreed definition and standardized measures of nursing need and shortage makes comparison and evaluation of policy effectiveness and impact difficult. Implications for Nursing Management Healthcare systems and organizations need to identify and implement effective policies that promote the retention of RNs in the workforce, or risk threats to healthcare system sustainability, as well as patient care quality and safety. The aim is to present the development and implementation of a bereavement follow-up intervention for grieving fathers. The development and implementation process and components of the intervention are presented. There is a lack of research into fathers' grief and bereavement support for them after the death of a child. Promotion of evidence-based nursing requires transparent development and implementation of nursing interventions and models to be able to repeat, evaluate their effectiveness and redevelop them. Phases of action research were used when developing and implementing the intervention. Results of the baseline study of father's grief and social support, the study of current bereavement support and the literature review were combined using triangulation. In this action research, the development of a bereavement follow-up intervention for grieving fathers began with the planning phase that included a baseline study about fathers' grief and social support, a study of current bereavement support systems in Finnish university hospitals and a systematic review of literature on the topic area and collaboration with a panel of experts. The developed bereavement follow-up intervention included three complementary components: support package, peer supporters' contact and health care personnel's contact. Implementation of the intervention included the development of a programme to be used in nursing practice, intervention training for programme implementers and intervention implementation. Developing and implementing an intervention is a complex, demanding and long-term process. The planning required theoretical knowledge as well as understanding the experiences of fathers, nursing practice and collaboration with those who implemented the intervention. New information about the fathers' grief and bereavement follow-up support is described. The model developed is evidence-based and can be applied in nursing care where grieving fathers and families are met. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
