The impact of climate change on agricultural quality development under the constraint of China's "Double Carbon" target has been widely discussed by policy practitioners and academic theorists. This paper attempts to deconstruct the logic of how climate change affects agricultural total factor productivity (TFP) in three dimensions—the structure of agricultural input factors, the change in the cropping system, and the stability of crop supply. This paper also reveals the mechanism through which biased technological progress increases agricultural TFP by weakening the magnitude of climate change and empirically tests it by using China's provincial-level data from 2000 to 2021. This study showed that average annual temperature and annual precipitation had significant negative effects on agricultural TFP, that the number of sunshine hours had a significant positive effect on agricultural TFP, and that obvious regional differences existed in the effect of climate change on agricultural TFP. Further mechanism tests revealed that biased technological progress positively moderated the effect of climate change on agricultural TFP. Based on these findings, the appropriate countermeasures for improving climate early warning mechanisms, promoting the progress of appropriate technology, and fostering new agricultural management bodies. The observed low level of information and communication technology (ICT) usage among micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) firms in many African countries may serve as a major constraint to their productivity. The productivity of service and manufacturing firms is impacted differently due to this low uptake of ICT. This paper seeks to examine the differential effects of ICT on MSMEs' productivity in emerging African economies, specifically Egypt and Nigeria. This study evaluates the effects of ICT on MSMEs' productivity across different sectors (services and manufacturing), by size and aggregated. The estimated results support the positive impact of MSMEs' website presence and use of email on their productivity, though the magnitude varies across different analyses and sectors. This appears to support the differential sectoral impacts of ICT on MSMEs' productivity across countries in emerging markets. Specifically, this study finds evidence for a higher impact of firms' website presence on productivity in the manufacturing sector than the services sector across emerging economies. The study, therefore, recommends that emerging markets economies that want to implement appropriate national technology policies to enhance their firms' productivity should always consider their differential effects on various sectors, as universal ICT policies may not achieve the desired objectives. To achieve the harmonious development of economic growth and the environment, nations must pay more attention to wastewater treatment and boost efficiency using green technology. This study applies the Malmquist-DEA model to assess the efficiency of green technology innovation in 19 Chinese wastewater treatment companies between 2017 and 2020. In addition, focus is placed on the core wastewater treatment technology of the companies with excellent performance, indicating how wastewater treatment companies may improve their green technology. The results of the study indicate that, first, the overall effectiveness of green technology innovation in companies follows a rising and then decreasing trend. In 2020, wastewater treatment companies' green technology innovation efficiency was around 17.4 percent lower than in 2017. Improving technical progress is the key to boosting the total factor productivity of wastewater treatment companies. Second, based on the Tobit regression, the shareholding ratio of companies has a positive influence on the technical efficiency of companies. Therefore, China should increase innovation capacity and productivity, adopt current sewage treatment technology from overseas, and thus gradually achieve clean sewage utilization and ecological environment management. In this study, capacity utilization of tourism business-certified accommodation facilities divided into regions according to the Classification of Accommodation Facilities Regional Units of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has been examined by Total Factor Productivity (TFP), Scale Efficiency and Pure Technical Efficiency change. The research covers the four years between 2014 and 2017. The Malmquist Total Factor Productivity Index approach was used in the analysis. The findings show that in 2014-2017, the capacity utilization of the hospitality sector has a downward trend in TFP. In this case, policymakers and investors should focus on the factors that are driving the TFP increase. The increase of TFP will be possible in the hospitality sector by improving and developing appropriate production technologies. In addition, it is necessary to improve operational efficiency (management and organization) in order to increase TFP. 85% of the 13 regions taken in the study are less than 1 TFV limit value. For these regions, especially technological development is the dominant factor affecting total factor productivity growth. Our study proposes a different perspective in the sector's capacity utilization efficiency and productivity assessment by using non-financial input and output variables in the hospitality sector. Manufacturing technologies, appropriately implemented, provide competitive advantage to manufacturers. The use of manufacturing technologies across countries is difficult to compare. One such comparison has been provided in the literature with a study of US and Japanese practices in advanced manufacturing technology use using a common questionnaire. The present study compares the use of 17 different technologies in similar industries in the USA (n = 1025) and UK (n = 166) using a common questionnaire. Largely, there are remarkable similarities between the two countries. This may partly correlate with the heavy traffic in foreign direct investment between the two nations. Notable differences are (1) across-the-board, US manufacturers are ahead of the UK firms in computerized integration with units inside and outside manufacturing organizations; (2) US manufacturers show higher labour productivity, which is consistent with macro-economic data, and (3) more UK manufacturers report the use of soft technologies such as just-in-time, total quality manufacturing and manufacturing cells. "Technology" has been elusively defined, reified, treated solely as an independent variable, applied wholistically to organizations, confused with structure, crudely measured, and studied mainly in manufacturing firms. Some conceptual and methodological problems associated with the concept can be reduced by a heuristic scheme, which suggests variable theoretical statuses, different levels of analysis, application to both product and service types of organizations, and a means of clearly identifying technological effects. The paper is a response to Antonelli and Quatraro's paper named 'The effects of biased technological change on total factor productivity: empirical evidence from a sample of OECD'. We point out that 'so-called novel method' which is used to identify and disentangle the effects of the direction of technological change on total factor productivity (TFP) in the article is wrongly implemented. Antonelli and Quatraro introduce Solow's methodology as part of his basic model to represent the effect of neutral technical change, ignoring the intrinsic consequence of Solow's calculating which called technical progress productivity is far from neutral. Hence, his methodology has little significance, neither the empirical analysis. Lastly, we give a new method measuring whether the technology is appropriate to the factor endowments' changing. Harvesting equipment productivity studies have been conducted in many countries around the world spanning over 25 years. These studies have shown that many factors influence individual machine productivity. These factors include stand and site conditions, equipment configuration, management objectives, and operator experience. Productivity can increase or decrease with slight changes in any of these factors. This literature review also highlights the variety of experimental designs and data collection methods encountered in a cross section of those studies. It further shows the variation in species composition, stand density, tree diameter, and harvest prescription. Although studies that include the influence of operator performance on harvest equipment productivity are limited, they were included in this review where appropriate and available. It is clear that productivity equations should be developed using population-level data with several operators. Some studies were conducted in stands similar to Maine, but they used harvesting equipment that is not commonly used in logging operations in this state. Therefore the applicability of existing studies to the logging industry in Maine, USA, is very limited. Our conclusion is that in order to accurately predict harvesting productivity it is necessary to develop regional harvesting productivity equations using harvesting equipment commonly used in Maine. Forest operations researchers in other regions will be able to use this summary to explore the difficulty of applying productivity information to regional logging operations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The standard neoclassical growth accounting (parametric) framework serves to explain only a minor part of labour productivity growth and its crosscountry differences, thus implying an important role (as yet unexplained) for the Solow Residual or the Total Factor Productivity (TFP). However, the increased application of non-parametric methods in growth accounting, and in particular with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), has revealed that, along with the direct effect on output, a higher capital stock will have a substantial indirect effect that has been disregarded by the neoclassical framework. In line with an appropriate technology model (Basu, Weil, 1998), a higher capital stock allows a country to use a better technology. This paper extends the evidence regarding the relevance of an appropriate technology view to those Eastern European countries that were not previously included in a growth accounting investigation using non-parametric methods. It also reveals that the appropriate technology view is useful in explaining labour productivity growth and its cross-country differences within the EU. Furthermore, the results are robustly subject to assumptions on capital formation and on whether labour productivity has been adjusted with regard to the cross-country differences in employment structure by the various sectors and by natural resource endowment. Given both the direct and indirect effects of capital accumulation, it might prove to be a much more important tool for determining labour productivity growth than is usually considered within a neoclassical framework. Abstract: This paper proposes a neo-Schumpeterian model in order to discuss how the mechanisms of entry and exit contribute to industry productivity growth in alternative technological regimes. Our central hypothesis is that new firms generate gains in aggregate productivity by increasing both the productivity level and competition intensity. By assuming that firms learn about the relevant technology through a variety of sources, and by allowing a continuous flow of entry and exit into the market, our study shows that firm exit and output contraction take mostly place among less productive firms, while output expansion and entry are concentrated among the more efficient ones. The greater is the competitive pressure generated by new entrants, the higher is the expected productivity level of established firms. Overall, our analysis suggests that micro analysis is the proper complement to aggregate industry studies, as it provides a considerable insight into the causes of productivity growth.
