Successful production of metallic selective laser melting components requires a quality assurance process that can effectively and nondestructively assess internal defects. Ultrasound testing has emerged as a valuable modality for defect identification as well as the characterization of microstructural and material properties. In this study, a comprehensive quality assessment approach was developed, leveraging quantitative ultrasound parameters, images, and image texture analysis. The evaluation focused on Inconel 718 selective laser melting components manufactured using diverse combinations of process parameters. The investigation involved examining the correlation between ultrasound parameters, image texture features, and the overall quality of the fabricated components. To validate the findings obtained through ultrasound testing, micro-computed tomography was employed. The experimental results provided evidence that the ultrasound parameters and image texture features successfully detected nonhomogeneous microstructures present within the selective laser melting components. Notably, the speed of sound and attenuation exhibited a positive correlation of 0.64 and 0.74, respectively, with porosity, indicating their potential as indicators of porosity. Furthermore, image texture features such as entropy, contrast, and homogeneity demonstrated high correlations ( $R^{2}\gt 0.7$ ) with the quality of the components. Consequently, these identified features hold promising potential for aiding in the selection of optimal process parameters and the prediction of porosity in future research.

In this paper, we first studied the action recognition method based on image texture features, established a human body model, and realized the extraction of skeletal data and joint calibration. Based on the skeleton information, the aerobic movements are recognized, the difference between the aerobics movement sequence and the standard movement sequence is calculated, and the movements are scored. Then, the database for aerobic movements was established, and an AI-assistant aerobics teaching model was developed. Finally, the effect of the teaching method was analyzed through indicators of recognition effect, skill impact, and students’ learning interests. The results show that the accuracy of the system’s action recognition reaches 95%, and the overall response time is between 5.2-6.4s, with high real-time performance. And it has a significant effect on students’ movement participation, active interest, and independent learning behavior, with p-values of 0.013, 0.041, and 0.036, respectively, p

Visualisation of cardiac fibrillation plays a very considerable role in cardiophysiological study and clinical applications. One of the ways to obtain the image of these phenomena is the registration of mechanical displacement fields reflecting the track from electrical activity. In this work, we read these fields using cross-correlation analysis from the video of open pig's epicardium at the start of fibrillation recorded with electrocardiogram. However, the quality of obtained displacement fields remains low due to the weak pixels heterogeneity of the frames. It disables to see more clearly such interesting phenomena as mechanical vortexes that underline the mechanical dysfunction of fibrillation. The applying of chemical or mechanical markers to solve this problem can affect the course of natural processes and falsify the results. Therefore, we developed a novel scheme of an unsupervised deep neural network that is based on the state-of-art positional coding technology for a multilayer perceptron. This network enables to generate a couple of frames with a more heterogeneous pixel texture, that is more suitable for cross-correlation analysis methods, from two consecutive frames. The novel network scheme was tested on synthetic pairs of images with different texture heterogeneity and frequency of displacement fields and also it was compared with different filters on our cardiac tissue image dataset. The testing showed that the displacement fields obtained with our method are closer to the ground truth than those which were computed only with the cross-correlation analysis in low contrast images case where filtering is impossible. Moreover, our model showed the best results comparing with the one of the popular filter CLAHE on our dataset. As a result, using our approach, it was possible to register more clearly a mechanical vortex on the epicardium at the start of fibrillation continuously for several milliseconds for the first time.

In order to solve the problem of insufficient compression efficiency of High-Efficiency Video coding (HEVC) in the current video market, a new generation of Versatile Video Coding (VVC) has been proposed. However, the newly added Multi-Type Tree (MTT) in VVC leads to an increase in coding complexity, so this paper proposes a fast decision algorithm for Coding Unit (CU) based on image information and using Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM) as the classifier for CU fast decision algorithm. This algorithm utilizes the pixel information and gradient information of the encoding unit to make decision and skip unnecessary partitioning methods. Meanwhile, efficient classifiers are utilized for partitioning decisions. And relevant features are extracted and trained for different partitioning decision problems, so as to obtain higher accuracy partitioning methods. The method balances the issues of coding efficiency and coding time. Compared to the VVC reference software (VTM), the method saves an average of 52.99% of coding time and increases BDBR by only 1.50%.

Water stress has been one of the most serious threat to the crop growth, development and yield quality in agricultural fields. Timely and accurate diagnosis of crop water stress can greatly contribute to the precision irrigation for the crop resilience and yield. In this study, the research object was taken from the summer maize in the typical dryland agricultural area of northwest China. A six-channel multispectral sensor was mounted on a drone to obtain the remote sensing image data of summer maize at the nodulatione and staminate pulling stage in 2022. At the same time, the stomatal conductance and phenotypic parameters of summer maize were also collected. The background was removed by supervised classification. The canopy vegetation index and image texture were obtained using the gray-scale covariance matrix. The sensitive vegetation index, image texture and phenotypic parameters and their combinations were screened out by the Bayesian information criterion and full subset filtering. The summer maize stomatal conductance estimation model was constructed to combine the three types of machine learnings: the extreme learning machine, the random forest, and the back-propagation neural network. The optimal model was mapped to estimate the stomatal conductance. The Pearson correlation coefficient of vegetation index and stomatal conductance were significantly positively correlated, whereas, the canopy reflectance of summer maize was weakly negatively correlated. Different types of image textures at different wavelengths were correlated with the stomatal conductance, and the highest correlation was found in the 550 nm band. The Pearson correlation coefficients between morphological structure phenotypes (plant height, stem thickness and leaf area) and stomatal conductance of summer maize were 0.72, 0.58 and 0.69, respectively, where the three types of phenotypic parameters data were correlated well with stomatal conductance. Vegetation indices with spectral reflectance data were used to assess the overall health and moisture status of the vegetation. Image texture was used to capture the spatial distribution, texture and structural features of crops. Crop phenotypic parameters were then used to reflect the physiological and morphological responses of the crop in a three-dimensional manner, providing visual information about the growth and moisture of the vegetation. The decision coefficients of the crop water stress diagnostic models that constructed from the three information sources increased from 0.728 and 0.750 to 0.841, respectively, compared with the single or two combinations, indicating the great potential to stomatal conductance prediction. The optimal combination of indicators was screened by Bayesian information criterion and full subset screening: DWSI, NDVI, MEA, ENT, plant height and leaf area. The back-propagation neural network model with the three complementary information sources was the optimal model for the water stress diagnosis of summer maize (coefficient of determination of 0.841, root mean square error of 0.043 mol/(m2 ·s), and mean absolute error of 0.034 mol/(m² ·s)). The underestimation of stomatal conductance was significantly improved, compared with the rest models. The inverse map with the optimal model was widely applied to easily and accurately diagnose the crop water stress for the purpose of irrigation strategies and resource allocation. Dense matching of remote sensing images is a key step in the generation of accurate digital surface models. The semi-global matching algorithm comprehensively considers the advantages and disadvantages of local matching and global matching in terms of matching effect and computational efficiency, so it is widely used in close-range, aerial and satellite image matching. Based on the analysis of the original semi-global matching algorithm, this paper proposes a semi-global high-resolution remote sensing image that takes into account the geometric constraints of the connection points and the image texture information based on the large amount of high-resolution remote sensing image data and the characteristics of clear image texture. The method includes 4 parts: (1) Precise orientation. Aiming at the system error in the image orientation model, the system error of the rational function model is compensated by the geometric constraint relationship of the connecting points between the images, and the sub-pixel positioning accuracy is obtained; (2) Epipolar image generation. After the original image is divided into blocks, the epipolar image is generated based on the projection trajectory method; (3) Image dense matching. In order to reduce the size of the cost space and calculation time, the image is pyramided and then semi-globally matched layer by layer. In the matching process, the disparity map expansion and erosion algorithm that takes into account the image texture information is introduced to restrict the disparity search range and better retain the edge characteristics of the ground objects; (4) Generate DSM. In order to test the matching effect, the weighted median filter algorithm is used to filter the disparity map, and the DSM is obtained based on the principle of forward intersection. Finally, the paper uses the matching results of WordView3 and Ziyuan No.3 stereo image to verify the effectiveness of this method.

Currently, a reliable and easy-to-use method to monitor flocculation in the water treatment process is highly demanded, especially for small water purification stations. For this problem, in situ images were used to analyze the flocculation process under different conditions via jar tests. A texture feature of the gray level co-occurrence matrix was found to be helpful for monitoring the floc status, such as growth rate and settling velocity. To further verify this finding, we established the correlation between the texture time sequence curve (TTSC) and its corresponding floc status. The slope of the TTSC during the growth phase and during the settling phase can describe the growth rate and the settling velocity, respectively, i.e., the higher the slope, the higher the growth rate and settling velocity. In addition, significant differences between the TTSCs in various abnormal conditions and the normal condition of coagulation can be identified. By using the TTSC for detecting abnormal conditions, we again verified that the texture feature can reliably reflect the flocculation process. Our study helps to develop a low-cost, stable, and simple method for monitoring flocculation and detecting abnormal conditions, which can effectively be used in the operation and management of water treatment plants. This article takes the complex uncertainty in the carrying process of water resources system as the research object. Firstly, the water resources carrying capacity system is divided into three sub-systems: bearing support capacity, bearing pressure and bearing regulation capacity. System analysis methods based on wireless sensor network and image texture of feature extraction for correlation analysis, gray correlation analysis, and multi-dimensional conditional cloud algorithm are introduced into the field of water resources carrying capacity evaluation research. Moreover, combine it with the subtraction set opposition, the effect partial bias connection number, and the risk matrix. Finally, three types of models for water resource carrying capacity evaluation and trend analysis were constructed. The evaluation results of water resources carrying capacity are consistent with the actual process, and the overall development trend is gradually improving. The application results of the evaluation model of water resource carrying capacity are established. The calculation results of the image texture feature of extraction model are similar to the overall change trend of the model before the improvement. The trend of change is more obvious. It can not only describe the water resource carrying level as a whole, but also characterize the reliability of the calculation results and the bearing risk caused by the uncertainty of the water resource carrying system. The water resources carrying capacity evaluation and trend analysis of calculation results are reasonable and feasible. The research results can provide a reasonable and effective decision-making basis for the systematic analysis of the bearing boundary issues between regional complex water resources systems and human water activities, and then propose adaptive risk prevention and control strategies for water resources carrying capacity.

• The spectral characteristics of different types of deterioration are analyzed. • The normalized spectral index is constructed to preliminarily identify the deterioration. • The relationship between spectral reflectance and Schmidt rebound value is established. • The deterioration identification models are established based on hyperspectral image texture features. Deterioration investigation is an essential foundation for understanding the preservation status of stone cultural heritage, as well as for carrying out emergency and preventive conservation. Traditional photogrammetry method for deterioration investigation in stone cultural heritage heavily relies on personnel experience and has low automation. To accurately evaluate the degree of deterioration and quantify its scale, different algorithms are used to establish the rebound value prediction model and deterioration identification model based on the hyperspectral image. The effects of different wavelength selection methods and different classification models are compared. The results show that the rebound value inversion model constructed by CARS and PLS delivers the most accurate forecasts, with R2 being no less than 0.85. The maximum error of the model when applied in the field does not exceed 20%. Different types of deterioration can be initially identified by the normalized spectral index constructed from the 530 nm and 675 nm wavelengths. In addition, all four classification models based on hyperspectral imaging texture features can identify different types of deterioration. The LGBM model has the highest identification accuracy of 0.98. It also has good performance in field identification. The availability of high-resolution satellite imagery has boosted the modelling of tropical forest attributes based on texture metrics derived from grey-level co-occurrence matrices (GLCMs). This procedure has shown that GLCM metrics are good predictors of vegetation attributes. Nonetheless, the procedure is also sensitive to the scale of analysis (image resolution and plot size). This study aimed to analyse the effect of spatial scale on the modelling of forest attributes, and to provide some ecological insight into such effect. Nineteen 32 × 32 m sampling plots were used to quantify forest structure (basal area: BA; mean height: H; standard deviation of height, HSD; density, D; and aboveground biomass, AGB). The 19 plots were subdivided into four 16 × 16 m, one of which was subdivided into four 8 × 8 m plots. To match this design, 12 GLCM metrics were calculated from a GeoEye-1 image (pixel size ≤ 2 m) using a 5-, 9-, and 21-pixel window from the R, NIR, NDVI, and EVI bands. For each of the windows, we modelled the five structural variables as linear combinations of the 12 metrics through linear models. The modelling potential ranged from high (R2 = 0.70) to low (0.11). H was the best-predicted attribute; this occurred at the smallest scale, with increasing scales producing lower R2 values. The second best-predicted attribute was HSD, which peaked at the intermediate scale. D and AGB displayed a similar pattern. BA was the only attribute best predicted at the largest scale. Thus, in predicting tropical forest attributes from GLCM-derived texture metrics, the spatial scale to be used should reflect the spatial scale at which ecological processes occur. Therefore, understanding how ecological processes express themselves in a remotely sensed image becomes a critical task.

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) fruit samples belonging to the ‘Mejhoul’ and ‘Boufeggous’ cultivars were harvested at the Tamar stage and used in our experiments. Before scanning, date samples were dried using convective drying at 60 °C and infrared drying at 60 °C with a frequency of 50 Hz, and then they were scanned. The scanning trials were performed for two hundred date palm fruit in fresh, convective-dried, and infrared-dried forms of each cultivar using a flatbed scanner. The image-texture parameters of date fruit were extracted from images converted to individual color channels in RGB, Lab, XYZ, and UVS color models. The models to classify fresh and dried samples were developed based on selected image textures using machine learning algorithms belonging to the groups of Bayes, Trees, Lazy, Functions, and Meta. For both the ‘Mejhoul’ and ‘Boufeggous’ cultivars, models built using Random Forest from the group of Trees turned out to be accurate and successful. The average classification accuracy for fresh, convective-dried, and infrared-dried ‘Mejhoul’ reached 99.33%, whereas fresh, convective-dried, and infrared-dried samples of ‘Boufeggous’ were distinguished with an average accuracy of 94.33%. In the case of both cultivars and each model, the higher correctness of discrimination was between fresh and infrared-dried samples, whereas the highest number of misclassified cases occurred between fresh and convective-dried fruit. Thus, the developed procedure may be considered an innovative approach to the non-destructive assessment of drying impact on the external quality characteristics of date palm fruit.

Image classification is widely used to build predictive models for breast cancer diagnosis. Most existing approaches overwhelmingly rely on deep convolutional networks to build such diagnosis pipelines. These model architectures, although remarkable in performance, are black-box systems that provide minimal insight into the inner logic behind their predictions. This is a major drawback as the explainability of prediction is vital for applications such as cancer diagnosis. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing an explainable machine learning pipeline for breast cancer diagnosis based on ultrasound images. We extract first- and second-order texture features of the ultrasound images and use them to build a probabilistic ensemble of decision tree classifiers. Each decision tree learns to classify the input ultrasound image by learning a set of robust decision thresholds for texture features of the image. The decision path of the model predictions can then be interpreted by decomposing the learned decision trees. Our results show that our proposed framework achieves high predictive performance while being explainable.

The detection and monitoring of burned areas is crucial for vegetation recovery, loss assessment, and anomaly analysis. Although vegetation indices (VIs) have been widely used, accurate vegetation detection is challenging due to potential confusion in the spectra of different types of land cover and the interference of shadow effects caused by terrain. In this work, a novel Vegetation Anomaly Spectral Texture Index (VASTI) is proposed, which leverages the merits of both spectral and spatial texture features to identify abnormal pixels for extracting burned vegetation areas. The performance of the VASTI and its components, the Global Environmental Monitoring Index (GEMI), the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), and the texture feature Autocorrelation (AC) were assessed based on a global dataset previously established, which contains 1774 pairs of samples from 10 different sites. The results illustrated that, compared with the GEMI and EVI, the VASTI improved the user’s accuracy (UA), producer’s accuracy (PA), and kappa coefficient across the ten study areas by approximately 5% to 10%. Compared to AC, the VASTI improved the accuracy of abnormal vegetation detection by 13% to 25%. The improvements were mainly caused by the fact that the incorporation of texture features can reduce spectral confusion between pixels. The innovation of the VASTI is that it considers the relationship between anomalous pixels and surrounding pixels by explicitly integrating spatial texture features with traditional spectral features.

Abstract With the rapid development of gymnastics technology, novel movements are also emerging. Due to the emergence of various complicated new movements, higher requirements are put forward for college gymnastics teaching. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the multimedia simulation technology to construct the human body rigid model and combine the image texture features to display the simulation image in texture form. In the study, GeBOD morphological database modeling was used to provide the data needed for the modeling of the whole-body human body of the joint and used for dynamics simulation. Simultaneously, in order to analyze and summarize the technical essentials of the innovative action, this experiment compared and analyzed the hem stage of the cross-headstand movement of the subject and the hem stage of the 180° movement. Research shows that the method proposed in this paper has certain practical effects.

Leaf Area Index (LAI) remains one of the most important forest structural attributes, as accurate estimation of LAI is crucial for predicting the growth of different species. Using the Partial Least Squares Regression (PLS-R) algorithm, this study investigated three image processing techniques to determine the best technique for estimating LAI using WorldView-3 imagery in the Midlands, KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The PLS-R texture ratios model achieved the highest accuracy of R2 = 0.70, RMSE = 1.21 (2.32% of the mean measured LAI) and R2 = 0.72, RMSE = 1.26 (2.41% of the mean measured LAI) for the wet and dry seasons, respectively. This was followed by the PLS-R single texture band model that produced an accuracy of R2 = 0.65, RMSE = 1.35 (2.58% of the mean measured LAI) and R2 = 0.67, RMSE = 1.32 (2.52% of the mean measured LAI) for the wet and dry seasons, respectively. The PLS-R model using a combination of vegetation indices had the lowest estimation accuracy of R2 = 0.59, RMSE = 1.38 (2.64% of the mean measured LAI) and R2 = 0.60, RMSE = 1.40 (2.67% of the mean measured LAI) for the wet and dry seasons, respectively. Abstract Background Tumor histomorphology analysis plays a crucial role in predicting the prognosis of resectable lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Computer-extracted image texture features have been previously shown to be correlated with outcome. However, a comprehensive, quantitative, and interpretable predictor remains to be developed. Methods In this multi-center study, we included patients with resectable LUAD from four independent cohorts. An automated pipeline was designed for extracting texture features from the tumor region in hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained whole slide images (WSIs) at multiple magnifications. A multi-scale pathology image texture signature (MPIS) was constructed with the discriminative texture features in terms of overall survival (OS) selected by the LASSO method. The prognostic value of MPIS for OS was evaluated through univariable and multivariable analysis in the discovery set (n = 111) and the three external validation sets (V1, n = 115; V2, n = 116; and V3, n = 246). We constructed a Cox proportional hazards model incorporating clinicopathological variables and MPIS to assess whether MPIS could improve prognostic stratification. We also performed histo-genomics analysis to explore the associations between texture features and biological pathways. Results A set of eight texture features was selected to construct MPIS. In multivariable analysis, a higher MPIS was associated with significantly worse OS in the discovery set (HR 5.32, 95%CI 1.72–16.44; P = 0.0037) and the three external validation sets (V1: HR 2.63, 95%CI 1.10–6.29, P = 0.0292; V2: HR 2.99, 95%CI 1.34–6.66, P = 0.0075; V3: HR 1.93, 95%CI 1.15–3.23, P = 0.0125). The model that integrated clinicopathological variables and MPIS had better discrimination for OS compared to the clinicopathological variables-based model in the discovery set (C-index, 0.837 vs. 0.798) and the three external validation sets (V1: 0.704 vs. 0.679; V2: 0.728 vs. 0.666; V3: 0.696 vs. 0.669). Furthermore, the identified texture features were associated with biological pathways, such as cytokine activity, structural constituent of cytoskeleton, and extracellular matrix structural constituent. Conclusions MPIS was an independent prognostic biomarker that was robust and interpretable. Integration of MPIS with clinicopathological variables improved prognostic stratification in resectable LUAD and might help enhance the quality of individualized postoperative care.

We provide sea ice classification maps of a sub-weekly time series of single (horizontal–horizontal, HH) polarization X-band TerraSAR-X scanning synthetic aperture radar (TSX SC) images from November 2019 to March 2020, covering the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition. This classified time series benefits from the wide spatial coverage and relatively high spatial resolution of TSX SC data and is a useful basic dataset for future MOSAiC studies on physical sea ice processes and ocean and climate modeling. Sea ice is classified into leads, young ice with different backscatter intensities, and first-year ice (FYI) or multiyear ice (MYI) with different degrees of deformation. We establish the per-class incidence angle (IA) dependencies of TSX SC intensities and gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) textures and use a classifier that corrects for the class-specific decreasing backscatter with increasing IAs, with both HH intensities and textures as input features. Optimal parameters for texture calculation are derived to achieve good class separation while maintaining maximum spatial detail and minimizing textural collinearity. Class probabilities yielded by the classifier are adjusted by Markov random field contextual smoothing to produce classification results. The texture-based classification process yields an average overall accuracy of 83.70 % and good correspondence to geometric ice surface roughness derived from in situ ice thickness measurements (correspondence consistently close to or higher than 80 %). A positive logarithmic relationship is found between geometric ice surface roughness and TSX SC HH backscatter intensity, similar to previous C- and L-band studies. Areal fractions of classes representing ice openings (leads and young ice) show prominent increases in middle to late November 2019 and March 2020, corresponding well to ice-opening time series derived from in situ data in this study and those derived from satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical data in other MOSAiC studies.

Monitoring and estimating the density of microalgae in a closed cultivation system is a critical task in culturing algae since it allows growers to optimally control both nutrients and cultivating conditions. Among the estimation techniques proposed so far, image-based methods, which are less invasive, nondestructive, and more biosecure, are practically preferred. Nevertheless, the premise behind most of those approaches is simply averaging the pixel values of images as inputs of a regression model to predict density values, which may not provide rich information of the microalgae presenting in the images. In this work, we propose to exploit more advanced texture features extracted from captured images, including confidence intervals of means of pixel values, powers of spatial frequencies presenting in images, and entropies accounting for pixel distribution. These diverse features can provide more information of microalgae, which can lead to more accurate estimation results. More importantly, we propose to use the texture features as inputs of a data-driven model based on L1 regularization, called least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), where their coefficients are optimized in a manner that prioritizes more informative features. The LASSO model was then employed to efficiently estimate the density of microalgae presenting in a new image. The proposed approach was validated in real-world experiments monitoring the Chlorella vulgaris microalgae strain, where the obtained results demonstrate its outperformance compared with other methods. More specifically, the average error in the estimation obtained by the proposed approach is 1.54, whereas those obtained by the Gaussian process and gray-scale-based methods are 2.16 and 3.68, respectively

The detection and monitoring of burned areas is crucial for vegetation recovery, loss assessment, and anomaly analysis. Although vegetation indices (VIs) have been widely used, accurate vegetation detection is challenging due to potential confusion in the spectra of different types of land cover and the interference of shadow effects caused by terrain. In this work, a novel Vegetation Anomaly Spectral Texture Index (VASTI) is proposed, which leverages the merits of both spectral and spatial texture features to identify abnormal pixels for extracting burned vegetation areas. The performance of the VASTI and its components, the Global Environmental Monitoring Index (GEMI), the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), and the texture feature Autocorrelation (AC) were assessed based on a global dataset previously established, which contains 1774 pairs of samples from 10 different sites. The results illustrated that, compared with the GEMI and EVI, the VASTI improved the user's accuracy (UA), producer's accuracy (PA), and kappa coefficient across the ten study areas by approximately 5% to 10%. Compared to AC, the VASTI improved the accuracy of abnormal vegetation detection by 13% to 25%. The improvements were mainly caused by the fact that the incorporation of texture features can reduce spectral confusion between pixels. The innovation of the VASTI is that it considers the relationship between anomalous pixels and surrounding pixels by explicitly integrating spatial texture features with traditional spectral features. Abstract Image texture analysis (radiomics) uses radiographic images to quantify characteristics that may identify tumour heterogeneity and associated patient outcomes. Using fluoro‐deoxy‐glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG‐PET/CT)‐derived data, including quantitative metrics, image texture analysis and other clinical risk factors, we aimed to develop a prognostic model that predicts survival in patients with previously untreated diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) from GOYA (NCT01287741). Image texture features and clinical risk factors were combined into a random forest model and compared with the international prognostic index (IPI) for DLBCL based on progression‐free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) predictions. Baseline FDG‐PET scans were available for 1263 patients, 832 patients of these were cell‐of‐origin (COO)‐evaluable. Patients were stratified by IPI or radiomics features plus clinical risk factors into low‐, intermediate‐ and high‐risk groups. The random forest model with COO subgroups identified a clearer high‐risk population (45% 2‐year PFS [95% confidence interval (CI) 40%–52%]; 65% 2‐year OS [95% CI 59%–71%]) than the IPI (58% 2‐year PFS [95% CI 50%–67%]; 69% 2‐year OS [95% CI 62%–77%]). This study confirms that standard clinical risk factors can be combined with PET‐derived image texture features to provide an improved prognostic model predicting survival in untreated DLBCL.

Abstract Land cover mapping is an important part of resource management, planning, and economic predictions. Improvements in remote sensing, machine learning, image processing, and object based image analysis (OBIA) has made the process of identifying land cover types increasingly faster and reliable but these advances have not been able to utilize all of the information encompassed within ultra-high (sub-meter) resolution imagery. There have been few known attempts to try and maximize this detailed information in high resolution imagery using advanced textural components. Hierarchical land classes are also rarely used as an attribute within the machine learning step of object-based image analysis. In this study we try to circumnavigate the inherent problems associated with high resolution imagery by combining well researched data transformations that aid the OBIA process with a seldom used texture transformation in Geographic Object Based Image Analyses (GEOBIA/OBIA) known as the Gabor Transform and the hierarchal organization of landscapes. We will observe the difference made in segmentation and classification accuracy of a random forest classifier when we fuse a Gabor transformed image to a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), high resolution multi-spectral imagery (RGB and NIR) and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) derived canopy height model (CHM) within a riparian area in Southeast Iowa, United States. Additionally, we will observe the effects on classification accuracy when adding multi-scale land cover data to objects. Both, the addition of hierarchical information and Gabor textural information, could aid the GEOBIA process in delineating and classifying the same objects that human experts would delineate within this riparian landscape.

Osteoporosis is a common metabolic disease that is frequently overlooked. This disease primarily affects adult women and causes bone thinness and fragility, which leads to fractures. DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is used to diagnose osteoporosis by measuring bone mineral density. These devices are expensive and not widely available for treatment. This study aimed to find a correlation between the texture value of an image of the patellar bone and the density of the lumbar spine, which can then be used to detect osteoporosis. This study's sample size was 19 subjects, and their bone mineral density (BMD) was measured using DXA. An X-ray was then taken to obtain an image of the genu bone. The stages of the research are as follows: 1) preparing the X-ray image of the bone; 2) determining the image texture value method of gray level co-occurrence matrix 3) investigating the relationship between texture values and BMD in the lumbar spine. The correlation test results revealed a statistically significant correlation between the texture value and the BMD of the lumbar spine for the correlation and variance characteristics (P less than 0.05). As a result, the value of the texture of the image of the patella bone can be used to detect osteoporosis.
