New legislation to combat football hooliganism in the Netherlands is about to become law. The proposed legislation has passed the Second Chamber of Parliament and is currently awaiting approval from the First Chamber of Parliament. This new legislation will most likely enter into force before the end of 2009. This paper presents an in-depth study of the history of the Dutch proposal and how it gives mayors and prosecutors far reaching powers to control football hooliganism. Central among these powers are the Stadium and Vicinity Ban and the Reporting Duty that can be handed out to known and suspected hooligans. This paper presents a comparative study of the proposed Dutch legislation and the English Football Spectators Act. This paper will specifically look at how some of the controversial aspects of the English legislation have been dealt with in the Dutch proposal. Purpose: The present paper is aimed to investigate the relationship between intangible assets, macroeconomic environment and market value of German, English and Portuguese public companies from 1999 to 2016. Although the IAS 38, assigns value to intangible assets, there is a gap between accounting and the market need. This gap is given by accounting conservatism in the accounting of intangible assets and by their difficult measurement. The verification of the impact of the intangibles on the company's market value is done through the methodology proposed by Gu and Lev (2011), using proxies such as CDS, Libor and Euribor and sensitivity tests. IDE is expected to reflect intangible capital and create shareholder value. This study seeks to interpret the contribution of intangibles and to forecast their impact on the market. Originality/value: The theme of evaluation of intangible assets has been approached in several ways. Its relevance lies in the need to establish methods for its measurement. Design/methodology/approach: The methodological approach is quantitative research with panel data using Stata-15. The database is the Capital IQ with public companies, listed in Germany, England, and Portugal from 1999 to 2016, with annual frequency. Findings: The results suggest that the comprehension value has a positive and significant relationship with the market value of the companies and that the intangible capital and the intangibles-driven-earnings are positively related to research and development expenses and general, administrative procedures. Through a focus on selected 'texts', this paper critiques the discursive representation of ethno-cultural diversity by Official Tourism Organisations (OTOs) in England. Embracing a social constructionist philosophy and using the method of critical discourse analysis (CDA), three text 'types' identified as promotional texts (brochure and web-based texts), operational texts (texts produced as part of the operational practice of the organisations) and interview texts (transcriptions of interviews with representatives of OTOs) were analysed. Utilising a threedimensional approach to written language as text, as discourse practice and as social practice, the research sought to probe representations of ethno-cultural diversity by OTOs in England in order to inform understanding of the constructed inter-textual nature of such discursive practices and their embeddedness in broader trajectories of institutional governance in and through tourism. The interpretative findings derived from this approach to 'text' suggest that discourses of denial, equality, otherness and silence are routinely deployed by OTOs vis-a-vis ethnic minority populations in England. It is argued that such projective practices reflect deeper patterns of political and institutional exclusion of 'minority' cultures and identities. This raises questions relating to the ways in which OTOs may conceivably foreground, appropriate, institutionalise or deny ethno-cultural diversity when projecting aspects of heritage and identity in and through tourism. North D. and Syrett S. Making the links: economic deprivation, neighbourhood renewel and scales of governance, Regional Studies. A policy focus of the New Labour Government in the UK has been upon attempts to tackle problems of concentrations of deprivation at the neighbourhood scale. This paper presents evidence from five local authority districts to consider how issues of scale matter in seeking to address such problems and the institutional arrangements and policies currently in place to improve their economic prospects. Johnston R., Burgess S., Wilson D. and Harris R. (2006) School and residential ethnic segregation: an analysis of variations across England's Local Education Authorities, Regional Studies40, 973–990. Schools are central to the goals of a multicultural society, but their ability to act as arenas within which meaningful intercultural interactions take place depends on the degree to which students from various cultural backgrounds meet there. Using recently released data on the ethnic composition of both schools and small residential areas, this paper explores not only the extent of ethnic segregation in England's schools, but also whether that segregation is greater than the underpinning segregation in the country's residential areas.
