The manipulation and transformation of quantum resources are key parts of quantum mechanics. Among them, asymmetry is one of the most useful operational resources, which is widely used in quantum clocks, quantum metrology, and other tasks. Recent studies have shown that the asymmetry of quantum states can be significantly amplified with the assistance of correlating catalysts which are finite-dimensional auxiliaries. In the experiment, we perform translationally invariant operations, ensuring that the asymmetric resources of the entire system remain non-increasing, on a composite system composed of a catalytic system and a quantum system. The experimental results demonstrate an asymmetry amplification of 0.0172\pm0.0022 in the system following the catalytic process. Device-independent randomness certification based on Bell nonlocality does not require any assumptions about the devices and therefore provides adequate security. Great effort has been made to demonstrate that nonlocality is necessary for generating quantum randomness, but the minimal resource required for random number generation has not been clarified. Here we first prove and experimentally demonstrate that violating any two-input Bell inequality is both necessary and sufficient for certifying randomness, however, for the multi-input cases, this sufficiency ceases to apply, leading to certain states exhibiting Bell nonlocality without the capability to certify randomness. We examine two typical classes of Bell inequalities with multi-input and multi-output, the facet inequalities and Salavrakos-Augusiak-Tura-Wittek-Ac\'in-Pironio Bell inequalities, in the high-dimensional photonic system, and observe the violation of the latter one can always certify randomness which is not true for the former. The private randomness with a generation rate of 1.867\pm0.018 bits per photon pair is obtained in the scenario of Salavrakos-Augusiak-Tura-Wittek-Ac\'in-Pironio Bell inequalities with 3-input and 4-output. The release of causal structure of physical events from a well-defined order to an indefinite one stimulates remarkable enhancements in various quantum information tasks. Some of these advantages, however, are questioned for the ambiguous role of the control system in the quantum switch that is an experimentally realized process with indefinite causal structure. In communications, for example, not only the superposition of alternative causal orders, but also the superposition of alternative trajectories can accelerate information transmissions. Here, we follow the proposal of Liu et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 230604 (2022)], and examine the information enhancement effect of indefinite causal orders with the toolkit of thermodynamics in a photonic platform. Specifically, we simulate the thermal interaction between a system qubit and two heat baths embedded in a quantum switch by implementing the corresponding switched thermal channels. Although its action on the system qubit only is thermally free, our results suggest that the quantum switch should be seen as a resource when the control qubit is also considered. Moreover, we characterize the non-Markovian property in this scenario by measuring the information backflows from the heat baths to the system qubit.

In the past decade, the toolkit of quantum information has been expanded to include processes in which the basic operations do not have definite causal relations. Originally considered in the context of the unification of quantum mechanics and general relativity, these causally indefinite processes have been shown to offer advantages in a wide variety of quantum information processing tasks, ranging from quantum computation to quantum metrology. Here we overview these advantages and the experimental efforts to realise them. We survey both the different experimental techniques employed, as well as theoretical methods developed in support of the experiments, before discussing the interpretations of current experimental results and giving an outlook on the future of the field., Comment: 22 page review article. In the last decade, it was understood that quantum networks involving several independent sources of entanglement which are distributed and measured by several parties allowed for completely novel forms of nonclassical quantum correlations, when entangled measurements are performed. Here, we experimentally obtain quantum correlations in a triangle network structure, and provide solid evidence of its nonlocality. Specifically, we first obtain the elegant distribution proposed in (Entropy 21, 325) by performing a six-photon experiment. Then, we justify its nonlocality based on machine learning tools to estimate the distance of the experimentally obtained correlation to the local set, and through the violation of a family of conjectured inequalities tailored for the triangle network.

Quantum steering ellipsoid visualizes the set of all qubit states that can be steered by measuring on another correlated qubit in the Bloch picture. Together with local reduced states, it provides a faithful geometric characterization of the underlying two-qubit state so that almost all nonclassical state features can be reflected in its geometric properties. Consequently, the various types of quantum ellipsoids with different geometric properties form an ellipsoid zoo, which, in this work, is experimentally verified via measurements on many polarization-path photonic states. By generating two-qubit states with high fidelity, the corresponding ellipsoids are constructed to certify the presence of entanglement, one-way Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering, discord, and steering incompleteness. It is also experimentally verified that the steering ellipsoid can be reconstructed from using the twelve vertices of the icosahedron as measurement directions. Symmetric informationally complete measurements are both important building blocks in many quantum information protocols and the seminal example of a generalised, non-orthogonal, quantum measurement. In higher-dimensional systems, these measurements become both increasingly interesting and increasingly complex to implement. Here, we demonstrate an integrated quantum photonic platform to realize such a measurement on three-level quantum systems. The device operates at the high fidelities necessary for verifying a genuine many-outcome quantum measurement, performing near-optimal quantum state discrimination, and beating the projective limit in quantum random number generation. Moreover, it is programmable and can readily implement other quantum measurements at similarly high quality. Distributed quantum computing provides a viable approach towards scalable quantum computation, which relies on nonlocal quantum gates to connect distant quantum nodes, to overcome the limitation of a single device. However, such an approach has only been realized within single nodes or between nodes separated by a few tens of meters, preventing the target of harnessing computing resources in large-scale quantum networks. Here, we demonstrate distributed quantum computing between two nodes spatially separated by 7.0 km, using stationary qubits based on multiplexed quantum memories, flying qubits at telecom wavelengths, and active feedforward control based on field-deployed fiber. Specifically, we illustrate quantum parallelism by implementing Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm and quantum phase estimation algorithm between the two remote nodes. These results represent the first demonstration of distributed quantum computing over metropolitan-scale distances and lay the foundation for the construction of large-scale quantum computing networks relying on existing fiber channels., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

In recent years, analysis methods for quantum states based on randomized measurements have been investigated extensively. Still, in the experimental implementations these methods were typically used for characterizing strongly entangled states and not to analyze the different families of multiparticle or weakly entangled states. In this work, we experimentally prepare various entangled states with path-polarization hyper-entangled photon pairs, and study their entanglement properties using the full toolbox of randomized measurements. First, we successfully characterize the correlations of a series of GHZ-W mixed states using the second moments of the random outcomes, and demonstrate the advantages of this method by comparing it with the well-known three-tangle and squared concurrence. Shared entanglement can significantly amplify classical correlations between systems interacting over a limited quantum channel. A natural avenue is to use entanglement of the same dimension as the channel because this allows for unitary encodings, which preserve global coherence until a measurement is performed. Contrasting this, we here demonstrate a distributed task based on a qubit channel, for which irreversible encoding operations can outperform any possible coherence-preserving protocol. This corresponds to using high-dimensional entanglement and encoding information by compressing one of the subsystems into a qubit. Demonstrating this phenomenon requires the preparation of a four-dimensional maximally entangled state, the compression of two qubits into one and joint qubit-ququart entangled measurements, with all modules executed at near-optimal fidelity. We report on a proof-of-principle experiment that achieves the advantage by realizing separate systems in distinct and independently controlled paths of a single photon. Multipartite high-dimensional entanglement presents different physics from multipartite two-dimensional entanglement. However, how to prepare multipartite high-dimensional entanglement is still a challenge with linear optics. In this paper, a multiphoton GHZ state with arbitrary dimensions preparation protocol is proposed in optical systems. In this protocol, we use auxiliary entanglements to realize a high-dimensional entanglement gate, so that high-dimensional entangled pairs can be connected into a multipartite high-dimensional GHZ state. Specifically, we give an example of using photons' path degree of freedom to prepare a 4-particle 3-dimensional GHZ state. The precision of quantum metrology is widely believed to be restricted by the Heisenberg limit, corresponding to a root mean square error that is inversely proportional to the number of independent processes probed in an experiment, N. In the past, some proposals have challenged this belief, for example using non-linear interactions among the probes. However, these proposals turned out to still obey the Heisenberg limit with respect to other relevant resources, such as the total energy of the probes. Here, we present a photonic implementation of a quantum metrology protocol surpassing the Heisenberg limit by probing two groups of independent processes in a superposition of two alternative causal orders. Each process creates a phase space displacement, and our setup is able to estimate a geometric phase associated to two sets of N displacements with an error that falls quadratically with N. Our results only require a single-photon probe with an initial energy that is independent of N. Using a superposition of causal orders outperforms every setup where the displacements are probed in a definite order. Our experiment features the demonstration of indefinite causal order in a continuous-variable system, and opens up the experimental investigation of quantum metrology setups boosted by indefinite causal order.

Traditional refrigeration is driven either by external force or an information-feedback mechanism. Surprisingly, the quantum measurement and collapse, which are generally detrimental, can also be used to power a cooling engine even without requiring any feedback mechanism. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate quantum measurement cooling (QMC) powered by entangled measurement by using a novel linear optical simulator. In the simulator, different thermodynamic processes can be simulated by adjusting the energy-level spacing of working substance and the temperature of thermal bath. We show experimentally that, without prior knowledge about the measurement to be made, QMC remains likely to occur. We also demonstrate that QMC is robust against measurement noise. Networks composed of independent sources of entangled particles that connect distant users are a rapidly developing quantum technology and an increasingly promising test-bed for fundamental physics. Here we address the certification of their post-classical properties through demonstrations of full network nonlocality. Full network nonlocality goes beyond standard nonlocality in networks by falsifying any model in which at least one source is classical, even if all the other sources are limited only by the no-signaling principle. We report on the observation of full network nonlocality in a star-shaped network featuring three independent sources of photonic qubits and joint three-qubit entanglement-swapping measurements. Quantum theory allows information to flow through a single device in a coherent superposition of two opposite directions, resulting into situations where the input-output direction is indefinite. Here we introduce a theoretical method to witness input-output indefiniteness in a single quantum device, and we experimentally demonstrate it by constructing a photonic setup that exhibits input-output indefiniteness with a statistical significance exceeding 69 standard deviations. Our results provide a way to characterize input-output indefiniteness as a resource for quantum information and photonic quantum technologies and enable table-top simulations of hypothetical scenarios exhibiting quantum indefiniteness in the direction of time., Comment: 5 + 18 pages, 11 figures

Entanglement enhanced quantum metrology has been well investigated for beating the standard quantum limit (SQL). However, the metrological advantage of entangled states becomes much more elusive in the presence of noise. Under strictly Markovian dephasing noise, the uncorrelated and maximally entangled states achieve exactly the same measurement precision. However, it was predicted that in a non-Markovian dephasing channel, the entangled probes can recover their metrological advantage. Here, by using a highly controlled photonic system, we simulate a non-Markovian dephasing channel fulfill the quadratic decay behaviour. Under such a channel, we demonstrate the GHZ states can surpass the SQL in a scaling manner, up to six photons. Since the quadratic decay behavior is quite general for short time expansion in open quantum systems (also known as the quantum Zeno effect), our results suggest a universal and scalable method to beat the SQL in the real-word metrology tasks., Comment: 11 Pages, 6 Figures

We present the general Hardy-like quantum pigeonhole paradoxes for \textit{n}-particle states, and find that each of such paradoxes can be simply associated to an un-colorable solution of a specific vertex-coloring problem induced from the projected-coloring graph (a kind of unconventional graph). Besides, as a special kind of Hardy's paradox, several kinds of Hardy-like quantum pigeonhole paradoxes can even give rise to higher success probability in demonstrating the conflict between quantum mechanics and local or noncontextual realism than the previous Hardy's paradoxes. Moreover, not only multi-qubit states, but high-dimensional states can exhibit the paradoxes. In contrast to only one type of contradiction presented in the original quantum pigeonhole paradox, two kinds of three-qubit projected-coloring graph states as the minimal illustration are discussed in our work, and an optical experiment to verify such stronger paradox is performed. Quantum contextuality is one of the most perplexing and peculiar features of quantum mechanics. Concisely, it refers to the observation that the result of a single measurement in quantum mechanics depends on the set of joint measurements actually performed. The study of contextuality has a long history at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Here we review the theoretical and experimental advances in this direction achieved at USTC over the last 20 years. We start by introducing the renowned simplest proof of state-independent contextuality. We then present several experimental tests of quantum versus noncontextual theories with photons. We use hyper-entanglement to experimentally realize deterministic entanglement swapping based on quantum Elegant Joint Measurements. These are joint projections of two qubits onto highly symmetric, iso-entangled, bases. We report measurement fidelities no smaller than $97.4\%$. We showcase the applications of these measurements by using the entanglement swapping procedure to demonstrate quantum correlations in the form of proof-of-principle violations of both bilocal Bell inequalities and more stringent correlation criteria corresponding to full network nonlocality. Our results are a foray into entangled measurements and nonlocality beyond the paradigmatic Bell state measurement and they show the relevance of more general measurements in entanglement swapping scenarios.

Certifying individual quantum devices with minimal assumptions is crucial for the development of quantum technologies. Here, we investigate how to leverage single-system contextuality to realize self-testing. We develop a robust self-testing protocol based on the simplest contextuality witness for the simplest contextual quantum system, the Klyachko-Can-Binicio\u{g}lu-Shumovsky (KCBS) inequality for the qutrit. We establish a lower bound on the fidelity of the state and the measurements (to an ideal configuration) as a function of the value of the witness under a pragmatic assumption on the measurements we call the KCBS orthogonality condition. We apply the method in an experiment with randomly chosen measurements on a single trapped $^{40}{\rm Ca}^+$ and near-perfect detection efficiency. The observed statistics allow us to self-test the system and provide the first experimental demonstration of quantum self-testing of a single system. We report an experimental certification of indefinite causal order that relies only on the characterization of the operations of a single party. We do so in the semi-device-independent scenario with the fewest possible assumptions of characterization of the parties' local operations in which indefinite causal order can be demonstrated with the quantum switch. To achieve this result, we introduce the concept of semi-device-independent causal inequalities and show that the correlations generated in a photonic quantum switch, in which all parties are able to collect local outcome statistics, achieve a violation of this inequality of 224 standard deviations. Quantum theory predicts the existence of genuinely tripartite-entangled states, which cannot be obtained from local operations over any bipartite entangled states and unlimited shared randomness. Some of us recently proved that this feature is a fundamental signature of quantum theory. The state $\left|{GHZ}_3\right\rangle=(\left|000\right\rangle+\left|111\right\rangle)/\sqrt{2}$ gives rise to tripartite quantum correlations which cannot be explained by any causal theory limited to bipartite nonclassical common causes of any kind (generalising entanglement) assisted with unlimited shared randomness. Hence, any conceivable physical theory which would reproduce quantum predictions will necessarily include genuinely tripartite resources. In this work, we verify that such tripartite correlations are experimentally achievable. We derive a new device-independent witness capable of falsifying causal theories wherein nonclassical resources are merely bipartite. Using a high-performance photonic $\left|{GHZ}_3\right\rangle$ states with fidelities of $ 0.9741\pm0.002$, we provide a clear experimental violation of that witness by more than $26.3$ standard deviation, under the locality and fair sampling assumption. We generalise our work to the $\left|{GHZ}_4\right\rangle$ state, obtaining correlations which cannot be explained by any causal theory limited to tripartite nonclassical common causes assisted with unlimited shared randomness., Comment: See related work by Ya-Li Mao et al. Entanglement purification is to distill high-quality entangled states from low-quality entangled states. It is a key step in quantum repeaters, determines the efficiency and communication rates of quantum communication protocols, and is hence of central importance in long-distance communications and quantum networks. In this work, we report the first experimental demonstration of deterministic entanglement purification using polarization and spatial mode hyperentanglement. After purification, the fidelity of polarization entanglement arises from $0.268\pm0.002$ to $0.989\pm0.001$. Assisted with robust spatial mode entanglement, the total purification efficiency can be estimated as $10^{9}$ times that of the entanglement purification protocols using two copies of entangled states when one uses the spontaneous parametric down-conversion sources. Our work may have the potential to be implemented as a part of full repeater protocols.

The monogamy relations of entanglement are highly significant. However, they involve only amounts of entanglement shared by different subsystems. Results on monogamy relations between entanglement and other kinds of correlations, and particularly classical correlations, are very scarce. Here we experimentally observe a tradeoff relation between internal quantum nonseparability and external total correlations in a photonic system and found that even purely classical external correlations have a detrimental effect on internal nonseparability. The nonseparability we consider, measured by the concurrence, is between different degrees of freedom within the same photon, and the external classical correlations, measured by the standard quantum mutual information, are generated between the photons of a photon pair using the time-bin method. Our observations show that to preserve the internal entanglement in a system, it is necessary to maintain low external correlations, including classical ones, between the system and its environment., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

In the classical world, physical events always happen in a fixed causal order. However, it was recently revealed that quantum mechanics allows events to occur with indefinite causal order (ICO). In this study, we use an optical quantum switch to experimentally investigate the application of ICO in thermodynamic tasks. Specifically, we simulate the working system interacting with two identical thermal reservoirs in an ICO, observing the quantum heat extraction even though they are in thermal equilibrium where heat extraction is unaccessible by traditional thermal contact. Using such a process, we simulate an ICO refrigeration cycle and investigate its properties. We also show that by passing through the ICO channel multiple times, one can extract more heat per cycle and thus obtain a higher refrigeration performance. High-quality long-distance entanglement is essential for both quantum communication and scalable quantum networks. Entanglement purification is to distill high-quality entanglement from low-quality entanglement in a noisy environment and it plays a key role in quantum repeaters. The previous significant entanglement purification experiments require two pairs of low-quality entangled states and were demonstrated in table-top. Here we propose and report a high-efficiency and long-distance entanglement purification using only one pair of hyperentangled states. We also demonstrate its practical application in entanglement-based quantum key distribution (QKD). One pair of polarization spatial-mode hyperentanglement was distributed over 11 km multicore fiber (noisy channel). After purification, the fidelity of polarization entanglement arises from 0.771 to 0.887 and the effective key rate in entanglement-based QKD increases from 0 to 0.332. The values of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality of polarization entanglement arises from 1.829 to 2.128. Moreover, by using one pair of hyperentanglement and deterministic controlled-NOT gate, the total purification efficiency can be estimated as 6.6x10^3 times than the experiment using two pairs of entangled states with spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) sources. We investigate whether paradigmatic measurements for quantum state tomography, namely mutually unbiased bases and symmetric informationally complete measurements, can be employed to certify quantum correlations. For this purpose, we identify a simple and noise-robust correlation witness for entanglement detection, steering and nonlocality that can be evaluated based on the outcome statistics obtained in the tomography experiment. This allows us to perform state tomography on entangled qutrits, a test of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering and a Bell inequality test, all within a single experiment. We also investigate the trade-off between quantum correlations and subsets of tomographically complete measurements as well as the quantification of entanglement in the different scenarios. Entanglement based quantum communication offers an increased level of security in practical secret shared key distribution. One of the fundamental principles enabling this security -- the fact that interfering with one photon will destroy entanglement and thus be detectable -- is also the greatest obstacle. Random encounters of traveling photons, losses and technical imperfections make noise an inevitable part of any quantum communication scheme, severely limiting distance, key rate and environmental conditions in which QKD can be employed. Using photons entangled in their spatial degree of freedom, we show that the increased noise resistance of high-dimensional entanglement, can indeed be harnessed for practical key distribution schemes. We perform quantum key distribution in eight entangled paths at various levels of environmental noise and show key rates that, even after error correction and privacy amplification, still exceed $1$ bit per photon pair and furthermore certify a secure key at noise levels that would prohibit comparable qubit based schemes from working., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures

Entanglement detection is one of the most conventional tasks in quantum information processing. While most experimental demonstrations of high-dimensional entanglement rely on fidelity-based witnesses, these are powerless to detect entanglement within a large class of entangled quantum states, the so-called unfaithful states. In this paper, we introduce a highly flexible automated method to construct optimal tests for entanglement detection given a bipartite target state of arbitrary dimension, faithful or unfaithful, and a set of local measurement operators. By restricting the number or complexity of the considered measurement settings, our method outputs the most convenient protocol which can be implemented using a wide range of experimental techniques such as photons, superconducting qudits, cold atoms or trapped ions. With an experimental quantum optics setup that can prepare and measure arbitrary high-dimensional mixed states, we implement some $3$-setting protocols generated by our method. These protocols allow us to experimentally certify 2- and 3-unfaithful entanglement in 4-dimensional photonic states, some of which contain well above 50% of noise., Comment: 12 pages. Using the concept of non-degenerate Bell inequality, we show that quantum entanglement, the critical resource for various quantum information processing tasks, can be quantified for any unknown quantum states in a semi-device-independent manner, where the quantification is based on the experimentally obtained probability distribution and beforehand knowledge on quantum dimension only. Specifically, as an application of our approach on multi-level systems, we experimentally quantify the entanglement of formation and the entanglement of distillation for qutrit-qutrit quantum systems. In addition, to demonstrate our approach for multi-partite systems, we further quantify the geometry measure of entanglement of three-qubit quantum systems. Depth cues with affluent spatial information have been proven beneficial in boosting salient object detection (SOD), while the depth quality directly affects the subsequent SOD performance. However, it is inevitable to obtain some low-quality depth cues due to limitations of its acquisition devices, which can inhibit the SOD performance. Besides, existing methods tend to combine RGB images and depth cues in a direct fusion or a simple fusion module, which makes they can not effectively exploit the complex correlations between the two sources. Moreover, few methods design an appropriate module to fully fuse multi-level features, resulting in cross-level feature interaction insufficient. To address these issues, we propose a novel Multi-level Cross-modal Interaction Network (MCINet) for RGB-D based SOD. Our MCI-Net includes two key components: 1) a cross-modal feature learning network, which is used to learn the high-level features for the RGB images and depth cues, effectively enabling the correlations between the two sources to be exploited; and 2) a multi-level interactive integration network, which integrates multi-level cross-modal features to boost the SOD performance. Extensive experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of our MCI-Net over 14 state-of-the-art methods, and validate the effectiveness of different components in our MCI-Net. More important, our MCI-Net significantly improves the SOD performance as well as has a higher FPS.

Open quantum systems and study of decoherence are important for our fundamental understanding of quantum physical phenomena. For practical purposes, there exists a large number of quantum protocols exploiting quantum resources, e.g. entanglement, which allows to go beyond what is possible to achieve by classical means. We combine concepts from open quantum systems and quantum information science, and give a proof-of-principle experimental demonstration -- with teleportation -- that it is possible to implement efficiently a quantum protocol via non-Markovian open system. The results show that, at the time of implementation of the protocol, it is not necessary to have the quantum resource in the degree of freedom used for the basic protocol -- as long as there exists some other degree of freedom, or environment of an open system, which contains useful resources. Virtual inertia controllers (VICs) for wind turbine generators (WTGs) have been recently developed to compensate for the reduction of inertia in power systems. However, VICs can induce low-frequency torsional oscillations of the drive train of WTGs. This paper addresses this issue and develops a new nonlinear VIC based on objective holographic feedbacks theory. This approach allows transforming the objectives that require improvement into a completely controllable system of Brunovsky's type. Simulation results under various scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing VICs in terms of suppression of WTG low-frequency drive-train torsional oscillations, enhancement of system frequency nadir as well as fast and smooth recovery of WTG rotor speed to the original MPP before the disturbance. High-dimensional entanglement promises to greatly enhance the performance of quantum communication and enable quantum advantages unreachable by qubit entanglement. One of the great challenges, however, is the reliable production, distribution and local certification of high-dimensional sources of entanglement. In this article, we present an optical setup capable of producing quantum states with an exceptionally high-level of scalability, control and quality, that, together with novel certification techniques, achieve the highest amount of entanglement recorded so far. We showcase entanglement in $32$-spatial dimensions with record fidelity to the maximally entangled state ($F=0.933\pm0.001$) and introduce measurement efficient schemes to certify entanglement of formation ($E_{oF}=3.728\pm0.006$). Object detection is an important task in remote sensing image analysis. To reduce the computational complexity of redundant information and improve the efficiency of image processing, visual saliency models have been widely applied in this field. In this paper, a novel saliency detection model based on Contrast-weighted Dictionary Learning (CDL) is proposed for remote sensing images. Specifically, the proposed CDL learns salient and non-salient atoms from positive and negative samples to construct a discriminant dictionary, in which a contrast-weighted term is proposed to encourage the contrast-weighted patterns to be present in the learned salient dictionary while discouraging them from being present in the non-salient dictionary. Then, we measure the saliency by combining the coefficients of the sparse representation (SR) and reconstruction errors. Furthermore, by using the proposed joint saliency measure, a variety of saliency maps are generated based on the discriminant dictionary. Finally, a fusion method based on global gradient optimization is proposed to integrate multiple saliency maps. Experimental results on four datasets demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

The duration, strength and structure of memory effects are crucial properties of physical evolution. Due to the invasive nature of quantum measurement, such properties must be defined with respect to the probing instruments employed. Here, using a photonic platform, we experimentally demonstrate this necessity via two paradigmatic processes: future-history correlations in the first process can be erased by an intermediate quantum measurement; for the second process, a noisy classical measurement blocks the effect of history. We then apply memory truncation techniques to recover an efficient description that approximates expectation values for multi-time observables. Our proof-of-principle analysis paves the way for experiments concerning more general non-Markovian quantum processes and highlights where standard open systems techniques break down., Comment: 4.5+7 pages; 7 figures; 62 references

Quantum entanglement is one of the most important resources in quantum information. In recent years, the research of quantum entanglement mainly focused on the increase in the number of entangled qubits or the high-dimensional entanglement of two particles. Compared with qubit states, multipartite high-dimensional entangled states have beneficial properties and are powerful for constructing quantum networks. However, there are few studies on multipartite high-dimensional quantum entanglement due to the difficulty of creating such states. In this paper, we experimentally prepared a multipartite high-dimensional state $|\Psi_{442}\rangle=\frac{1}{2}(|000\rangle+|110\rangle+|221\rangle+|331\rangle)$ by using the path mode of photons. We obtain the fidelity $F=0.854\pm0.007$ of the quantum state, which proves a real multipartite high-dimensional entangled state. Finally, we use this quantum state to demonstrate a layered quantum network in principle. Entanglement lies at the heart of quantum mechanics, and has been identified an essential resource for diverse applications in quantum information. If entanglement could be verified without any trust in the devices of observers, i.e., in a device-independent (DI) way, then unconditional security can be guaranteed for various quantum information tasks. In this work, we propose an experimental-friendly DI protocol to certify the presence of entanglement, based on Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering. We first establish the DI verification framework, relying on the measurement-device-independent technique and self-testing, and show it is able to verify all EPR-steerable states. In the context of three-measurement settings as per party, it is found to be noise robustness towards inefficient measurements and imperfect self-testing. Finally, a four-photon experiment is implemented to device-independently verify EPR-steering even for Bell local states.
