Abstract The establishment of soil geochemical baseline and heavy metal pollution assessment in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is of great significance for guiding environmental management in the high-cold and high-altitude regions. A total of 126 topsoil samples (0–20 cm) were collected and the contents of Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Cd, As and Hg were determined in the Sabaochaqu basin of the Tuotuo River, the source of the Yangtze River, in the Tibetan Plateau. The baseline values of 8 heavy metals were determined by mathematical statistics, iterative 2times standard deviation method, cumulative frequency and reference element standardization, and the soil heavy metal pollution in the study area was assessed by enrichment factor method and pollution index method. The results showed that the average contents of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn were 31.84, 0.29, 66.07, 17.35, 0.021, 27.86, 49.35 and 88.56 mg/kg, respectively. Baseline values were 22.24, 0.217, 64.16, 15.69, 0.0191, 26.46, 34.91, and 68.62 mg/kg, respectively. There is a great difference between the baseline value of soil heavy metals in study area and the Xizang soil background value, especially the baseline value of Cd was 2.68 times of its background value. The results of the pollution evaluation based on the baseline values showed that the 8 heavy metals were slightly enriched, and the overall pollution status was light pollution, and measures should be taken to control and manage them. The research results can provide a reference value for the evaluation of soil heavy metal pollution in the source region of the Yangtze River, and also provide a theoretical basis for the construction of soil heavy metal baseline values in similar high-cold and high-altitude regions.

Abstract The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau belongs to the area of extremely fragile environment and sensitive to human activities. In recent years, more and more human interference has been detected in this area. In this study, 128 surface soil samples were collected from the Sabao Chaqu watershed of the Tuotuo river at the source of the Yangtze River on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The soil pollution status and spatial distribution characteristics of Cd, Hg, As, Cu, Pb, Cr, Zn and Ni were evaluated by soil accumulation index, enrichment factor, pollution index and geographical detector. The results showed that the average contents of As, Cd, Pb and Zn in the study area were 1.2–3.64 times higher than soil background values of Tibet, while the contents of Hg, Cr, Cu and Ni were lower than the background values, while the average content of As was higher than the soil pollution risk screening value (GB15618-2018), and the pollution index showed that As was in a low pollution state, while the other 7 heavy metals were in a safe state. There were significant differences in the spatial distribution of 8 heavy metals and there was a significant correlation with soil properties and distance factors. Factor detection showed that natural factors had the strongest explanatory power to the contents of As, Cd, Cr, Cu and Ni, distance from the lake and soil Sc content had the strongest explanatory power to Hg content, and anthropogenic factors had the strongest explanatory power to Pb content. Interaction detection revealed that the q values of the strongest interaction explanatory power for As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn were 2.81, 4.30, 1.26, 2.47, 2.33, 1.59, 6.37, and 5.08 times higher than their strongest factor detection explanatory power, respectively. The interaction between anthropogenic factors and other factors has an important influence on the spatial differentiation of heavy metals in the study area. Risk detection showed that the average contents of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn were the highest in the subregions of MgO, TS, Sc, X6, X13, MgO, TN and X4, respectively. Comprehensive study shows that the spatial differentiation of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn is mainly affected by natural factors, but there are also some anthropogenic factors, the spatial differentiation of Hg is affected by both natural factors and atmospheric deposition, and the spatial distribution characteristics of Pb are mainly affected by anthropogenic factors.

According to the observation logs, precipitation, temperature monitoring and surrounding investigation, the interference events are classified in detail for the water level observation of the double wells in Ganhai to identify and eliminate interference more accurately and effectively. A preliminary technical solution is proposed for the blockage and man-made cleaning interference that occur most frequently and have the greatest impact on normal observation. The results of hydrogen and oxygen isotope analysis show that the water from two wells is recharged by atmospheric rainfall. Rainfall interference can be identified by collecting rainfall and flow data of river.

Summary: Complement-dependent microglia pruning of excitatory synapses has been widely reported in physiological and pathological conditions, with few reports concerning pruning of inhibitory synapses or direct regulation of synaptic transmission by complement components. Here, we report that loss of CD59, an important endogenous inhibitor of the complement system, leads to compromised spatial memory performance. Furthermore, CD59 deficiency impairs GABAergic synaptic transmission in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). This depends on regulation of GABA release triggered by Ca2+ influx through voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) rather than inhibitory synaptic pruning by microglia. Notably, CD59 colocalizes with inhibitory pre-synaptic terminals and regulates SNARE complex assembly. Together, these results demonstrate that the complement regulator CD59 plays an important role in normal hippocampal function.

Abstract When driving on mountain roads, the drivers bear the dynamic load from the road environment. The sudden change of driving load will produce great safety risks and even lead to traffic accidents. In order to explore the driving risk of two‐lane road in mountainous areas, it is necessary to analyze the change of driving load from a quantitative point of view. Using the road driving experiment, 10 male drivers were selected according to the experimental road conditions, collect the driver's visual and heart rate indicators, analyze the driver's physiological indicators, and study the driver's driving load evolution process on the mountain road. Combined with the classification of road environment, a driving load evaluation model based on catastrophe progression method is constructed. The driving load is divided into four states: low load state, affordable state, chaotic state and high load state. It is found that most sections of mountain roads are in a low load and bearable state. In semi closed and closed environment, the driving load is in a chaotic state, which affects the driving safety. The evaluation model can be used to evaluate the traffic safety of road environment.

Chitosan/MOF composite porous monolith used in water remediation as adsorbent can realize high-efficient removal of pollutant in water and facile recycling from water. However, dissolution of chitosan (without crosslinking) in acidic aqueous solution will cause breakage of composite monolith. Herein, we report a chitosan/UiO-66 monolith prepared by ice-templating method. Specially, a pre-crosslinking treatment (by glutaraldehyde) is employed before the monolith formation, which obviously boosts its stability in aqueous solution. The composite monolith is evaluated by SEM, N2 adsorption, XRD, and batch adsorption tests for Congo Red (CR). The results show that the composite monolith possesses a typical ice-templating structure with hierarchical (mirco- / meso- and macro-) pores. UiO-66 particles are embedded on the surface of chitosan matrix, and the crystal structure of UiO-66 is not changed obviously by the crosslinking and freezing process. The composite monolith exhibits high adsorption efficiency (90% of CR was removed from its aqueous solution in 60 min) and the maximum adsorption capacity of 246.21 mg/g (derived from Langmuir model) can be reached. After adsorption, the monolith is collected by a facile procedure and recovered using ethanol for evaluating its reusability. After 4 cycles, the CR removal efficiency of the composite monolith still remains ~90% of the initial efficiency. This work demonstrates that the simple crosslinking procedure before monolith formation can ensure the intact shape of the chitosan/MOF monolith during adsorption.

The Lower Paleozoic carbonate strata experience multi-stage tectonic activity and post-depositional volcanic activity in the Dongying Depression, Bohai Bay basin. These tectonic and magmatic activities have caused the reservoir to undergo severe diagenesis, resulting in strong reservoir heterogeneity. This study aims to identify the characteristics of dolomite, various reservoir spaces’ characteristics, the origin of different types of dolomite, and the porosity evolution. According to crystal size and morphology, dolomites can be divided into three kinds of matrix dolomites and four kinds of dolomite cements. The petrology and geochemistry of the dolomite suggests that matrix dolomite is formed from seawater. The medium-to-coarse-crystalline dolomite cement (D3) has a higher 87Sr/86Sr ratio (0.7119 to 0.7129) and a higher homogenization temperature (>125 °C), suggesting that the fluid for the precipitation of D3 is a mixed fluid formed by hydrothermal fluid eroding the 87Sr-rich feldspar sandstone. The strikingly negative δ18O values (−23.7 to −25.7‰ VPDB) of saddle dolomite (D4) indicate that D4 precipitated from hydrothermal fluids and the Mg2+ source may be due to dissolution of the host dolomite that formed in the evaporation environment. The reservoir spaces of the target strata in the study area mainly include fractures, dissolution vugs, intercrystalline pores, and moldic pores. Dissolution is the basis for forming high-quality dolomite reservoirs. The faults and fractures provided favorable conditions for dissolution. Hydrothermal fluid and organic acid were the main dissolution fluids for the dolomite reservoir, which were beneficial to the development of secondary pores. In the study area, organic acid dissolution was shown to contribute more than hydrothermal dissolution in the study area.

All-solid-state Li-metal batteries (ASSLBs) are highly desirable, due to their inherent safety and high energy density; however, the irregular and uncontrolled growth of Li filaments is detrimental to interfacial stability and safety. Herein, we report on the incorporation of piezo-/ferroelectric BaTiO3 (BTO) nanofibers into solid electrolytes and determination of electric-field distribution due to BTO inclusion that effectively regulates the nucleation and growth of Li dendrites. Theoretical simulations predict that the piezoelectric effect of BTO embedded in solid electrolyte reduces the driving force of dendrite growth at high curvatures, while its ferroelectricity reduces the overpotential, which helps to regularize Li deposition and Li+ flux. Polarization reversal of soft solid electrolytes was identified, confirming a regular deposition and morphology alteration of Li. As expected, the ASSLBs operating with LiFePO4/Li and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/garnet solid electrolyte containing 10% BTO additive showed a steady and long cycle life with a reversible capacity of 103.2 mAh g-1 over 500 cycles at 1 C. Furthermore, the comparable cyclability and flexibility of the scalable pouch cells prepared and the successful validation in the sulfide electrolytes, demonstrating its universal and promising application for the integration of Li metal anodes in solid-state batteries. This study investigates the problem of designing a finite‐time functional interval observer (FTFIO) for linear systems with uncertainties. A novel structure is proposed to design an FTFIO for uncertain systems. Based on the proposed structure, the sufficient conditions for the existence of such a finite‐time observer are established as a set of coefficient matrix equations with a constraint matrix. Meanwhile, using the obtained existence conditions, the parametric expression of an FTFIO is developed by adopting the solutions to a type of first‐order Sylvester equations, which provides extra degrees of freedom. Finally, the FTFIO design method is efficiently applied to the estimation problem in two examples, including the simple numerical system and chaotic system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Cynaroside exhibits various biological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antitumor, and cardioprotective effects. However, its involvement in methotrexate (MTX)-induced intestinal inflammation remains inadequately understood. Thus, we investigated the impact of cynaroside on MTX-induced intestinal inflammation and its potential mechanisms. Methods: To assess the protective potential of cynaroside against intestinal inflammation, Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to a regimen of 7 mg/kg MTX for 3 days, followed by treatment with cynaroside at varying doses (10, 20, or 40 mg/kg). Histopathological evaluations were conducted alongside measurements of inflammatory mediators to elucidate the involvement of the NLRP3 inflammasome in alleviating intestinal inflammation. Results: Administration of 7 mg/kg MTX resulted in decreased daily food intake, increased weight loss, and elevated disease activity index in rats. Conversely, treatment with cynaroside at 20 or 40 mg/kg ameliorated the reductions in body weight and daily food intake and suppressed the MTX-induced elevation in the disease activity index. Notably, cynaroside administration at 20 or 40 mg/kg attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration, augmented goblet cell numbers and lowered serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-18, as well as the CD68-positive cell rate in the intestines of MTX-induced rats. Furthermore, cynaroside downregulated the expression levels of NLRP3, cleaved caspase 1, and cleaved IL-1β in MTX-induced rats. Discussion: Collectively, our findings indicated that cymaroside alleviates intestinal inflammatory injury by inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in MTX-induced rats. In order to improve the level of the urban living environment and improve the comfort level of the microclimate, this paper investigates and simulates numerically the influence on the wind environment of different tree species in various tree array layouts, aiming to enhance wind comfort in tree landscapes and reduce the risk of high wind speeds. Initially, the study analyzes the commonly used tree species in Hangzhou's urban tree arrays (beech, soapberry, and camphor trees), summarizing three types of tree array layouts: retention, through, and enclosure. Subsequently, standard tree models are established to define their crown porosity, trunk elastic modulus, and other physical characteristics. Using fluid–structure interaction methods, the impact of different tree species on the wind environment within various tree array layouts is numerically simulated at a wind speed of 14 m/s. In conclusion, the retention layout is most effective in controlling wind speed. Camphor trees perform excellently in reducing wind speed within both retention and enclosure tree array layouts, with wind reduction efficiencies of 16.06% and 14.09%, respectively. In order to analyze the spatial variability of soil nutrients and their ecological chemometrics in Tangchang Town, National Agricultural Park, 20 influencing factors were selected: soil pH, Cd, Hg, As, Cu, Pb, Cr, Zn, Ni, Se, elevation, slope, aspect, land use type, distance from industrial land, distance from commercial land, distance from railway, distance from residential area, distance from highway and distance from river. The effects of various influencing factors on the spatial variability of total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (N), total phosphorus (P), total potassium (K) and ecological stoichiometry were analyzed by means of geographic detector. The results showed that average contents of soil TOC, N, P and K in the study area are 10.24 g kg-1, 1.33 g kg-1, 1.14 g kg-1 and 23.60 g kg-1, respectively, and there were significant differences in the spatial distribution of soil nutrients and their eco-stoichiometry in the study area, and TOC, N, P, K, C/N, C/P, C/K, N/P, N/K and P/K has a significant correlation with each other and most correlation coefficients are above 0.5 or below -0.5. Factor detection showed that soil properties, distance from railway and distance from residential area had the most significant explanatory power to the spatial heterogeneity of soil nutrients and eco-stoichiometry. Interaction detection showed that the interaction between soil properties with other factors was the most important factor affecting the spatial differentiation of soil nutrients and their ecological chemometrics, and elevation, distance from railway and distance from residential area were also important factors. Risk detection showed that the differences of soil nutrients and their ecological stoichiometry were most significant in the subregions of soil properties (pH, Cd, Hg, As, Cu, Pb, Cr, Zn, Ni and Se). Mammalian skin and its appendages constitute the integumentary system forming a barrier between the organism and its environment. During development, skin epidermal cells divide rapidly and stratify into a multilayered epithelium, as well as invaginate downward in the underlying mesenchyme to form hair follicles (HFs). In postnatal skin, the interfollicular epidermal (IFE) cells continuously proliferate and differentiate while HFs undergo cycles of regeneration. Epidermal regeneration is fueled by epidermal stem cells (SCs) located in the basal layer of the IFE and the outer layer of the bulge in the HF. Epidermal development and SC behavior are mainly regulated by various extrinsic cues, among which Wnt-dependent signaling pathways play crucial roles. This review not only summarizes the current knowledge of Wnt signaling pathways in the regulation of skin development and governance of SCs during tissue homeostasis, but also discusses the potential crosstalk of Wnt signaling with other pathways involved in these processes. Ophiusa disjungens nucleopolyhedrovirus (OpdiNPV) was newly found in Guangdong Province, China. Using BamHI, EcoRI, HindIII, PstI, XhoI, XbaI digestion, the size of the OpdiNPV genome was estimated to be 92,000 base pair. The pstI-G genomic fragment of OpdiNPV was cloned and sequenced. Searches of databases identified at least four open reading frames (ORFs) within this fragment. These ORFs encode odv- e66 (EU 623602), p87/vp80 (EU 732665), odv- ec43 (EU617337) and ac108 gene (EU 732666) respectively. The phylogenetic tree of NPVs based on the combined sequences of odv- ec43 and ac108 indicated that OpdiNPV was most closely related to Mamestra configurata NPV-A and Mamestra configurata NPV-B. The characterization of OpdiNPV in this paper would provide better understanding molecular properties of this virus and be helpful in the development of the newly isolated virus as a biopesticide or an engineered pesticide to control more species of insect pests.
