Abstract

The article discusses a study by Ted Scambos, Garrett Campbell, and colleagues at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado. The team used data from thermal-sensors aboard the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA’s) Landsat 8 satellite to locate a region in East Antarctica with the coldest recorded temperatures on Earth, which beat a previous low temperature recorded on July 21, 1983 at Antarctica’s Vostok Station.
