Edge detection is crucial in medical image processing, enabling precise extraction of structural information to support lesion identification and image analysis. Traditional edge detection models typically rely on complex Convolutional Neural Networks and Vision Transformer architectures. Due to their numerous parameters and high computational demands, these models are limited in their application on resource-constrained devices. This paper presents an ultra-lightweight edge detection model (UHNet), characterized by its minimal parameter count, rapid computation speed, negligible of pre-training costs, and commendable performance. UHNet boasts impressive performance metrics with 42.3k parameters, 166 FPS, and 0.79G FLOPs. By employing an innovative feature extraction module and optimized residual connection method, UHNet significantly reduces model complexity and computational requirements. Additionally, a lightweight feature fusion strategy is explored, enhancing detection accuracy. Experimental results on the BSDS500, NYUD, and BIPED datasets validate that UHNet achieves remarkable edge detection performance while maintaining high efficiency. This work not only provides new insights into the design of lightweight edge detection models but also demonstrates the potential and application prospects of the UHNet model in engineering applications such as medical image processing. In-context learning (ICL) empowers generative models to address new tasks effectively and efficiently on the fly, without relying on any artificially crafted optimization techniques. In this paper, we study extending ICL to address a broader range of tasks with an extended learning horizon and higher improvement potential, namely General Purpose In-Context Learning (GPICL). To this end, we introduce two lightweight benchmarks specifically crafted to train and evaluate GPICL functionalities. Each benchmark encompasses a vast number of tasks characterized by significant task variance. These tasks are also crafted to promote long-horizon in-context learning through continuous generation and interaction, covering domains such as language modeling, decision-making, and world modeling. The benchmarks necessitate the models to leverage contexts and history interactions to enhance their capabilities, which we believe to be the key characteristics of GPICL. Our experiments indicate that the diversity of training tasks is positively correlated with the ability to generalize with ICL, but inversely correlated with zero-shot capabilities. Additionally, our findings indicate that the scale of parameters alone may not be crucial for ICL or GPICL, suggesting alternative approaches such as increasing the scale of contexts and memory states.

In this work, we present Semantic Gesticulator, a novel framework designed to synthesize realistic gestures accompanying speech with strong semantic correspondence. Semantically meaningful gestures are crucial for effective non-verbal communication, but such gestures often fall within the long tail of the distribution of natural human motion. The sparsity of these movements makes it challenging for deep learning-based systems, trained on moderately sized datasets, to capture the relationship between the movements and the corresponding speech semantics. To address this challenge, we develop a generative retrieval framework based on a large language model. This framework efficiently retrieves suitable semantic gesture candidates from a motion library in response to the input speech. To construct this motion library, we summarize a comprehensive list of commonly used semantic gestures based on findings in linguistics, and we collect a high-quality motion dataset encompassing both body and hand movements. We also design a novel GPT-based model with strong generalization capabilities to audio, capable of generating high-quality gestures that match the rhythm of speech. Furthermore, we propose a semantic alignment mechanism to efficiently align the retrieved semantic gestures with the GPT's output, ensuring the naturalness of the final animation. Our system demonstrates robustness in generating gestures that are rhythmically coherent and semantically explicit, as evidenced by a comprehensive collection of examples. With the rapid development of underwater communication, sensing, automation, robot technologies, autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) swarms are gradually becoming popular and have been widely promoted in ocean exploration and underwater tracking or surveillance, etc. However, the complex underwater environment poses significant challenges for AUV swarm-based accurate tracking for the underwater moving targets. In this paper, we aim at proposing a multi-AUV cooperative underwater multi-target tracking algorithm especially when the real underwater factors are taken into account.We first give normally modelling approach for the underwater sonar-based detection and the ocean current interference on the target tracking process.Then, we regard the AUV swarm as a underwater ad-hoc network and propose a novel Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) architecture towards the AUV swarm based on Software-Defined Networking (SDN).It enhances the flexibility and scalability of the AUV swarm through centralized management and distributed operations.Based on the proposed MARL architecture, we propose the "dynamic-attention switching" and "dynamic-resampling switching" mechanisms, to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of AUV swarm cooperation during task execution.Finally, based on a proposed AUV classification method, we propose an efficient cooperative tracking algorithm called ASMA.Evaluation results demonstrate that our proposed tracking algorithm can perform precise underwater multi-target tracking, comparing with many of recent research products in terms of convergence speed and tracking accuracy.

Recent text-to-image diffusion models are able to learn and synthesize images containing novel, personalized concepts (e.g., their own pets or specific items) with just a few examples for training. This paper tackles two interconnected issues within this realm of personalizing text-to-image diffusion models. First, current personalization techniques fail to reliably extend to multiple concepts -- we hypothesize this to be due to the mismatch between complex scenes and simple text descriptions in the pre-training dataset (e.g., LAION). Second, given an image containing multiple personalized concepts, there lacks a holistic metric that evaluates performance on not just the degree of resemblance of personalized concepts, but also whether all concepts are present in the image and whether the image accurately reflects the overall text description. To address these issues, we introduce Gen4Gen, a semi-automated dataset creation pipeline utilizing generative models to combine personalized concepts into complex compositions along with text-descriptions. Using this, we create a dataset called MyCanvas, that can be used to benchmark the task of multi-concept personalization. In addition, we design a comprehensive metric comprising two scores (CP-CLIP and TI-CLIP) for better quantifying the performance of multi-concept, personalized text-to-image diffusion methods. We provide a simple baseline built on top of Custom Diffusion with empirical prompting strategies for future researchers to evaluate on MyCanvas. We show that by improving data quality and prompting strategies, we can significantly increase multi-concept personalized image generation quality, without requiring any modifications to model architecture or training algorithms., Comment: Preprint; Project Page: https://danielchyeh.github.io/Gen4Gen/

PointGoal navigation in indoor environment is a fundamental task for personal robots to navigate to a specified point. Recent studies solved this PointGoal navigation task with near-perfect success rate in photo-realistically simulated environments, under the assumptions with noiseless actuation and most importantly, perfect localization with GPS and compass sensors. However, accurate GPS signalis difficult to be obtained in real indoor environment. To improve the PointGoal navigation accuracy without GPS signal, we use visual odometry (VO) and propose a novel action integration module (AIM) trained in unsupervised manner. Sepecifically, unsupervised VO computes the relative pose of the agent from the re-projection error of two adjacent frames, and then replaces the accurate GPS signal with the path integration. The pseudo position estimated by VO is used to train action integration which assists agent to update their internal perception of location and helps improve the success rate of navigation. The training and inference process only use RGB, depth, collision as well as self-action information. The experiments show that the proposed system achieves satisfactory results and outperforms the partially supervised learning algorithms on the popular Gibson dataset., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

Recently there has been a huge interest in dialog systems. This interest has also been developed in the field of the medical domain where researchers are focusing on building a dialog system in the medical domain. This research is focused on the multi-turn dialog system trained on the multi-turn dialog data. It is difficult to gather a huge amount of multi-turn conversational data in the medical domain that is verified by professionals and can be trusted. However, there are several frequently asked questions (FAQs) or single-turn QA pairs that have information that is verified by the experts and can be used to build a multi-turn dialog system.

Significant progress has been made in boundary detection with the help of convolutional neural networks. Recent boundary detection models not only focus on real object boundary detection but also "crisp" boundaries (precisely localized along the object's contour). There are two methods to evaluate crisp boundary performance. One uses more strict tolerance to measure the distance between the ground truth and the detected contour. The other focuses on evaluating the contour map without any postprocessing. In this study, we analyze both methods and conclude that both methods are two aspects of crisp contour evaluation. Accordingly, we propose a novel network named deep refinement network (DRNet) that stacks multiple refinement modules to achieve richer feature representation and a novel loss function, which combines cross-entropy and dice loss through effective adaptive fusion. We are concerned with the issue of detecting changes and their signs from a data stream. For example, when given time series of COVID-19 cases in a region, we may raise early warning signals of outbreaks by detecting signs of changes in the cases. We propose a novel methodology to address this issue. The key idea is to employ a new information-theoretic notion, which we call the differential minimum description length change statistics (D-MDL), for measuring the scores of change sign. We first give a fundamental theory for D-MDL. We then demonstrate its effectiveness using synthetic datasets. We apply it to detecting early warning signals of the COVID-19 epidemic. We empirically demonstrate that D-MDL is able to raise early warning signals of events such as significant increase/decrease of cases. Remarkably, for about $64\%$ of the events of significant increase of cases in 37 studied countries, our method can detect warning signals as early as nearly six days on average before the events, buying considerably long time for making responses. We further relate the warning signals to the basic reproduction number $R0$ and the timing of social distancing. The results showed that our method can effectively monitor the dynamics of $R0$, and confirmed the effectiveness of social distancing at containing the epidemic in a region. We conclude that our method is a promising approach to the pandemic analysis from a data science viewpoint. We propose a configuration scheme for a load-balancing Clos-network packet switch that has split central modules and buffers in between the split modules. Our split-central-buffered Load-Balancing Clos-network (LBC) switch is cell based. The switch has four stages, namely input, central-input, central-output, and output stages. The proposed configuration scheme uses a pre-determined and periodic interconnection pattern in the input and split central modules to load-balance and route traffic. The LBC switch has low configuration complexity. The operation of the switch includes a mechanism applied at input and split-central modules to forward cells in sequence. The switch achieves 100\% throughput under uniform and nonuniform admissible traffic with independent and identical distributions (i.i.d.). These high switching performance and low complexity are achieved while performing in-sequence forwarding and without resorting to memory speedup or central-stage expansion. Our discussion includes throughput analysis, where we describe the operations that the configuration mechanism performs on the traffic traversing the switch, and proof of in-sequence forwarding.
