Sea state bias (SSB) is a crucial error of satellite radar altimetry over the ocean surface. For operational nonparametric SSB (NPSSB) models, such as two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) NPSSB, the solution process becomes increasingly complex and the construction of their regression functions pose challenges as the dimensionality of relevant variables increases. And most current SSB correction models for altimeters still follow those of traditional nadir radar altimeters, which limits their applicability to Synthetic Aperture Radar altimeters. Therefore, to improve this situation, this study has explored the influence of multi-dimensional SSB models on Synthetic Aperture Radar altimeters. This paper proposes a deep learning-based SSB estimation model called SNSSB, which employs a Siamese network framework, takes various multi-dimensional variables related to sea state as inputs, and uses the difference in sea surface height (SSH) at self-crossover points as the label. Experiments were conducted using Sentinel-6 self-crossover data from 2021 to 2023, and the model is evaluated using three main metrics: the variance of the SSH difference, the explained variance, and the SSH difference variance index (SVDI). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SNSSB model can further improve the accuracy of SSB estimation. On a global scale, compared to the traditional NPSSB, the multi-dimensional SNSSB not only decreases the variance of the SSH difference by over 11%, but also improves the explained variance by 5-10 cm2 in mid- and low-latitude regions. And the regional SNSSB also performs well, reducing the variance of the SSH difference by over 10% compared to the NPSSB. Additionally, the SNSSB model improves the computational efficiency by approximately 100 times. The favorable results highlight the potential of the multidimensional SNSSB in constructing SSB models, particularly the five-dimensional (5D) SNSSB, representing a breakthrough in overcoming the limitations of traditional NPSSB for constructing high-dimensional models. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) simulation is a vital tool for planning SAR missions, interpreting SAR images, and extracting valuable information. SAR imaging is essential for analyzing sea scenes, and the accuracy of sea surface and scattering models is crucial for effective SAR simulations. Traditional methods typically employ empirical formulas to fit sea surface scattering, which are not closely aligned with the principles of electromagnetic scattering. This paper introduces a novel approach by constructing multiple sea surface models based on the Pierson–Moskowitz (P-M) sea spectrum, integrated with the stereo wave observation projection (SWOP) expansion function to thoroughly account for the influence of wave fluctuation characteristics on radar scattering. Utilizing the shooting and bouncing ray-physical optics (SBR-PO) method, which adheres to the principles of electromagnetic scattering, this study not only analyzes sea surface scattering characteristics under various sea conditions but also facilitates the computation of scattering coupling between multiple targets. By constructing detailed scattering distribution data, the method achieves high-precision SAR simulation results. The scattering model developed using the SBR-PO method provides a more nuanced description of sea surface scenes compared to traditional methods, achieving an optimal balance between efficiency and accuracy, thus significantly enhancing sea surface SAR imaging simulations. Optical remote sensing imagery can serve as a crucial data source in numerous fields. However, the susceptibility to weather conditions (like clouds and rain) can render the cloud contamination, leading to the significant influence on optical images. The image quality can be required to restore the spectral information in cloud-contaminated regions. In this study, the spectral information was reconstructed in the cloud-contaminated regions using an object-oriented approach. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data was integrated with the radar signals and land cover information, in order to serve as the constraints for the reconstruction. The distance matrix was calculated on the SAR images, and then transplant onto the optical images for the replacement. The pixel-level matching accuracy was enhanced to maximize the retention of spectral information from the original images. A solid foundation was provided for the accurate extraction of subsequent land surface information. The performance was also evaluated to verify the improved model. The comparative experiments were conducted with the traditional pixel replacement, weighted linear regression, and curvature-driven. Visual inspection was carried out over various scenes. The results revealed that the superior quality was achieved in the imagery reconstruction in the thick cloud areas and cloud shadows. Particularly, the consistency was maintained among various land cover pixels in the reconstructed areas by the object-oriented method. The boundaries and areas were accurately delineated in the various types of fine-grained land cover. Quantitative analysis was conducted to validate using some metrics, such as correlation coefficient, root mean square error (RMSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity index (SSIM). The spectral characteristic curves of the pixels were reconstructed to closely match those of the reference images, with the correlation coefficients exceeding 0.99. Notably, significant improvement was observed in the spectral curve recovery of vegetation pixels with the enhanced relative to the rest. The radar vegetation indices were optimized to employ an object-oriented matching mechanism during pixel reconstruction. The traditional pixel replacement model was optimized effectively. Furthermore, the band reflectance was closely resembled that of the reference images. Among the five bands of cloud-contaminated images after reconstruction, the highest correlation coefficients were observed with Band 2 and Band 3 reaching 0.925 and 0.922, respectively, and RMSE values of 0.009 and 0.007, respectively. The reconstructed images shared the minimal quality loss and high similarity to the reference images, with the highest PSNR and SSIM values across all bands. Specifically, the structural similarity values of the reconstructed Band 2 and Band 3 images were 0.902 and 0.910, respectively, with the PSNR values reaching 31.978 and 33.173, respectively. The superior image quality was obtained similar to reference images, which was consistence with spectral characteristics. The experimental results were used to the qualitatively and quantitatively validated the effectiveness of the reconstruction. The object-oriented approach can be expected to reconstruct the spectral information in the cloud-contaminated regions. The remotely sensed images were consistently produced with the higher spectral reconstruction accuracy in the different types of land cover and spectral bands. However, the replacing pixel spectral information was relied primarily on from single-image data. Some limitations was matched the effectiveness between cloudy and cloud-free regions, when reconstructing the large-scale, thick cloud areas in single remote sensing images. Additionally, the global searching can fail to the optimal reconstruction for the locally contaminated cloud pixels. Time-series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology, renowned for its high-precision, wide coverage, and all-weather capabilities, has become an essential tool for Earth observation. However, the quality of the interferometric baseline network significantly influences the monitoring accuracy of InSAR technology. Therefore, optimizing the interferometric baseline is crucial for enhancing InSAR's monitoring accuracy. Surface vegetation changes can disrupt the coherence between SAR images, introducing incoherent noise into interferograms and reducing InSAR's monitoring accuracy. To address this issue, we propose and validate an optimization method for the InSAR baseline that considers changes in vegetation coverage (OM-InSAR-BCCVC) in the Yuanmou dry-hot valley. Initially, based on the imaging times of SAR image pairs, we categorize all interferometric image pairs into those captured during months of high vegetation coverage and those from months of low vegetation coverage. We then remove the image pairs with coherence coefficients below the category average. Using the Small Baseline Subset InSAR (SBAS-InSAR) technique, we retrieve surface deformation information in the Yuanmou dry-hot valley. Landslide identification is subsequently verified using optical remote sensing images. The results show that significant seasonal changes in vegetation coverage in the Yuanmou dry-hot valley lead to noticeable seasonal variations in InSAR coherence, with the lowest coherence in July, August, and September, and the highest in January, February, and December. The average coherence threshold method is limited in this context, resulting in discontinuities in the interferometric baseline network. Compared with methods without baseline optimization, the interferometric map ratio improved by 17.5% overall after applying the OM-InSAR-BCCVC method, and the overall inversion error RMSE decreased by 0.5 rad. From January 2021 to May 2023, the radar line of sight (LOS) surface deformation rate in the Yuanmou dry-hot valley, obtained after atmospheric correction by GACOS, baseline optimization, and geometric distortion region masking, ranged from −73.87 mm/year to 127.35 mm/year. We identified fifteen landslides and potential landslide sites, primarily located in the northern part of the Yuanmou dry-hot valley, with maximum subsidence exceeding 100 mm at two notable points. The satellite–ground bistatic configuration, which uses geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar (GEO SAR) for illumination and ground equipment for reception, can achieve wide coverage, high revisit, and continuous illumination of interest areas. Based on the analysis of the signal characteristics of GEO satellite–ground bistatic SAR (GEO SG-BiSAR), it is found that the bistatic echo signal has problems of azimuth spectrum aliasing and 2-D spatial variability. Therefore, to overcome those problems, a novel SAR imaging method for a GEO SG-BiSAR system with severe azimuth spectrum aliasing and 2-D spatial variability is proposed. Firstly, based on the geometric configuration of the GEO SG-BiSAR system, the time-domain and frequency-domain expressions of the signal are derived in detail. Secondly, in order to avoid the increasing cost caused by traditional multi-channel reception technology and the processing burden caused by inter-channel errors, the azimuth deramping is executed to solve the azimuth spectrum aliasing of the signal under the special geometric structure of GEO SG-BiSAR. Thirdly, based on the investigation of azimuth and range spatial variability characteristics of GEO SG-BiSAR in the Range Doppler (RD) domain, the azimuth spatial variability correction strategy is proposed. The signal corrected by the correction strategy has the same migration characteristics as monostatic radar. Therefore, the traditional chirp scaling function (CSF) is also modified to solve the range spatial variability of the signal. Finally, the two-dimensional spectrum of GEO SG-BiSAR with modified chirp scaling processing is derived, followed by the SPECAN operation to obtain the focused SAR image. Furthermore, the completed flowchart is also given to display the main composed parts for GEO SG-BiSAR imaging. Both azimuth spectrum aliasing and 2-D spatial variability are taken into account in the imaging method. Change detection using SAR data has been an active topic in various applications. Because conventional change detection identifies signal changes in single-pol radar observations, they cannot separately detect different kinds of change associated with different ground parameters. In this study, we investigated the comprehensive use of dual-pol parameters and proposed a novel dual-pol-based change detection framework utilizing different dual-pol scatter-type indicators. To optimize the exploitation of dual-pol change information, we presented a two-step processing strategy that divides the multiclass change detection process into a binary detection step that identifies the presence of changes and the classification step that distinguishes the types of change. In the detection stage, each dual-pol parameter was considered as an independent information source. Assuming potential conflict between dual-pol parameters, a disjunctive combination of detection results from different dual-pol parameters was applied to obtain the final detection result. In the classification step, an unsupervised change classification strategy was proposed based on the change direction and magnitude of the dual-pol parameters within the change class. Experimental results exhibited significantly improved detectability across a wide change spectrum compared with previous dual-pol-based change detection approaches. The paper presents new detailed radar maps and polarimetric data covering the southern polar region of the near side of the Moon measuring 400 × 800 km with a spatial resolution of about 75 m. The data were obtained using the 64-meter antenna (TNA-1500) of the Satellite Communications Center Bear Lakes of the Special Design Bureau of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute and the 13.2-meter radio telescope (RT-13) of the Svetloe Observatory of the Institute of Applied Astronomy, Russian Academy of Sciences, at a wavelength of 4.2 cm. At this wavelength, radar signals penetrate the lunar regolith to depths of up to 1 m and are sensitive to surface and suspended rocks larger than 1 cm. The maps show 39% of the area of permanently shadowed regions not observable by optical Earth-based instruments, which may hide water ice deposits. Analysis of radar maps did not reveal any relationship between the polarization properties of the surface in these regions and the presence of solar illumination. The data obtained as a result of this work can be used to study the surface and subsurface regolith features of the lunar south polar region, including searching for ice deposits in permanently shadowed regions, as well as for planning future lunar missions. Due to the scheme of fixed-platform beam-steering radar and the space of the blast furnace being subjected to harsh environmental influences, the traditional detection methods of burden surface are limited by geometric distortion, noncoherent clutter, and noise interference, which leads to an increase in the image entropy value and the equivalent number of views, makes the density distribution of burden surface show a diffuse state, and greatly affects the stability and accuracy. In this paper, a new fixed-platform beam-steering radar synthetic aperture radar imaging method (FPBS-SAR) is proposed in the sensory domain of the blast furnace environment. From the perspective of fixed-platform beam-steering radar motion characteristics, the target range–azimuth coupled distance history model under the sub-aperture is established, the azimuthal Doppler variation characteristics of the fixed-platform beam-steering process are analyzed, and the compensation function of the transform domain for geometric disturbance correction is proposed. For noncoherent noise suppression in blast furnaces, the trimmed geometric mean-order-likelihood CFAR method is proposed to take into account the information of burden surface and clutter suppression. To verify the method, point target simulation and imaging for the industrial field measurement data are carried out. The results indicate that geometric distortion is well eliminated, the image entropy value and the equivalent number of views have decreased, and noncoherent noise in blast furnaces is suppressed. Radar technology is critical for subsurface sensing applications since it enables the extraction of surface information remotely without being affected by environmental factors such as illumination and weather conditions. Hence, their usage on drones has become extremely essential as these vehicles need to accumulate data while flying over different and possibly difficult-to-access terrains regardless of visibility conditions. A frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) single input multiple output (SIMO) radar system is developed to provide near real-time radar images onboard. The system is comprised of a transceiver module, specifically designed for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications, to produce images in real-time. GPU-based computation is utilized to optimize processing power, while enabling range profiles to be generated and SIMO SAR images to be created during flight. The system can be easily mounted on UAV or multirotor systems. The detection and ranging performance of the system are examined by performing several experiments at the campus. Objects up to 100 metres are successfully detected by the radar system. The system demonstrates excellent ability to generate 2D SIMO SAR images, effectively identifying building and guard-box exteriors that are consistent with images from Google Earth. Near-range radar imaging (NRRI) has evolved into a vital technology with diverse applications spanning fields such as remote sensing, surveillance, medical imaging and non-destructive testing. The Pseudopolar Format Matrix (PFM) has emerged as a promising technique for representing radar data in a compact and efficient manner. In this paper, we present a comprehensive PFM description of near-range radar imaging. Furthermore, this paper also explores the integration of the Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT) with PFM for enhanced radar signal analysis. The FrFT—a powerful mathematical tool for signal processing—offers unique capabilities in analysing signals with time-frequency localization properties. By combining FrFT with PFM, we have achieved significant advancements in radar imaging, particularly in dealing with complex clutter environments and improving target detection accuracy. Meanwhile, this paper highlights the imaging matrix form of FrFT under the PFM, emphasizing the potential for addressing challenges encountered in near-range radar imaging. Finally, numerical simulation and real-world scenario measurement imaging results verify optimized accuracy and computational efficiency with the fusion of PFM and FrFT techniques, paving the way for further innovations in near-range radar imaging applications. Forward‐looking radar imaging is a top priority due to a variety of applications. An airborne forward‐looking radar imaging approach via a modified propagator method (MPM) based on the planar phased array is proposed. It can obtain a better focusing effect without range migration correction. Through the MPM algorithm, the azimuth resolution can be enhanced greatly. Compared with the conventional synthetic aperture radar imaging algorithm, the left‐right ambiguity process can be avoided by generating two‐dimensional spatial spectra. Furthermore, the imaging results of different numbers of elements are given to provide an assessment of the imaging performance. Additionally, the authors proposed to apply the scanning planar phased array configuration to airborne forward‐looking two‐dimensional imaging for the first time. The Land Use Change Alert (LUCA) dataset was developed for effective and timely monitoring of global forest changes that are mostly associated with human activities. Near- real-time changes of forest land use are mapped at 0.05 ha minimum mapping unit for all forest types across the Earth's ecoregions, every two weeks. LUCA is based on Sentinel-1 cloud penetrating synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observations to circumvent limitations of optical imagery from pervasive cloud cover over forested areas globally, and especially in the tropics. The methodology is based on a combination of time-series change detection and machine learning analytics to achieve high accuracy of alerts across all ecoregions and landscapes globally with an average area-adjusted users and producers accuracy of 83% and 63%, respectively. The bi-weekly global alert maps capture forest clearing associated with deforestation and industrial timber harvesting, along with forest degradation associated with selective logging, fragmentation, fire, and roads. The product was developed and released publicly through Google Earth Engine to allow for the rapid assessment of land use change activities, quantifying patterns and processes driving forest change and dynamics across forest ecoregions. LUCA is designed to help monitor a variety of emission reduction programs at the local to regional scales and play a key role in implementing regulations on deforestation-free products. Tomographic Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) allows the reconstruction of the 3D radar reflectivity of forests from a large(r) number of multi-angular acquisitions. However, in most practical implementations it suffers from limited vertical resolution and/or reconstruction artefacts as the result of non-ideal acquisition setups. Polarisation Coherence Tomography (PCT) offers an alternative to traditional tomographic techniques that allow the reconstruction of the low-frequency 3D radar reflectivity components from a small(er) number of multi-angular SAR acquisitions. PCT formulates the tomographic reconstruction problem as a series expansion on a given function basis. The expansion coefficients are estimated from interferometric coherence measurements between acquisitions. In its original form, PCT uses the Legendre polynomial basis for the reconstruction of the 3D radar reflectivity. This paper investigates the use of new basis functions for the reconstruction of X-band 3D radar reflectivity of forests derived from available lidar waveforms. This approach enables an improved 3D radar reflectivity reconstruction with enhanced vertical resolution, tailored to individual forest conditions. It also allows the translation from sparse lidar waveform vertical reflectivity information into continuous vertical reflectivity estimates when combined with interferometric SAR measurements. This is especially relevant for exploring the synergy of actual missions such as GEDI and TanDEM-X. The quality of the reconstructed 3D radar reflectivity is assessed by comparing simulated InSAR coherences derived from the reconstructed 3D radar reflectivity against measured coherences at different spatial baselines. The assessment is performed and discussed for interferometric TanDEM-X acquisitions performed over two tropical Gabonese rainforest sites: Mondah and Lopé. The results demonstrate that the lidar-derived basis provides more physically realistic vertical reflectivity profiles, which also produce a smaller bias in the simulated coherence validation, compared to the conventional Legendre polynomial basis. This paper uses MATLAB software to demonstrate the performance of UWBSAR and conducts a comparative study with data obtained from conventional radar. It compares various antennas that support UWB, such as Vivaldi, MIMO, and monopole antennas, analyzed using SIMULINK. The paper discusses the design of UWBSAR to provide a comprehensive analytical picture of the processed images. The focus is on frequency domain analysis in general and the Range Migration Algorithm (RMA) in particular. The data obtained after signal processing is recorded to estimate the crossrange resolution, which is then compared with conventional SAR. The cross-range resolution estimated using UWBSAR is found to be lower than that of conventional radar, proving that UWBSAR is a better alternative for obtaining sharper images in short-range applications. High-quality images are reconstructed using a combination of UWB radar, SAR processing, and proposed algorithms to improve image quality. The investigation includes positive image generation to enhance sharpness and near-field imaging procedures. This paper also describes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and its application in operating at low frequencies to detect obscured targets beneath foliage. While it has obvious military applications, it also has civilian uses, such as in geophysical studies and weather forecasting. Earth observation satellite-04 or EOS-04 (Radar imaging satellite-1A or RISAT-1A) provides the opportunity for characterization of surface features using C-band fully-polarimetric, hybrid-polarimetric and dual-polarimetric radar data from same platform in high to moderate resolution (2–50 m depending on mode) and varied incidence angle (12°–55°). These unique EOS-04 radar datasets can be processed using Microwave Data Analysis Software (MIDAS) tool, to derive radar polarimetric parameters. MIDAS is capable of carrying out synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data processing comprising radiometric and majority of the polarimetric processing of EOS-04 datasets. In addition, MIDAS has the functionality to orthorectify and geocode EOS-04 polarimetric products, which is missing in other softwares. Further, MIDAS contains module for bulk-processing of timeseries EOS-04 products. We showcase results obtained from EOS-04 datasets and describe the scattering behaviour of various targets. Further, we also demonstrate the temporal variation in the backscatter values from different target features obtained from EOS-04 time-series stack, which has strong applicability in land use/land cover and agricultural applications. Thus, the radiometric and polarimetric products can be highly beneficial for characterization of physical properties of the scatterers based on their radar scattering behaviour and further classification of the surface features. Ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of hydraulic infrastructures is paramount, considering the widespread consequences that damages can inflict on people, communities, and the environment. To mitigate risks and prevent significant losses, continuous surveillance is vital. While some damages might appear minor, they can jeopardize the complete operational reliability of dams, leading to substantial economic losses, especially in energy production and related activities. The rapid growth in 20th-century infrastructure development globally has made security monitoring a necessity for numerous civil structures. Rigorous inspection programs, particularly for reservoir dams, are essential for safeguarding citizens and their properties. However, individually monitoring each dam is often impractical due to the associated costs and time constraints, potentially posing safety risks. Fortunately, satellite-based differential radar interferometry (DInSAR) offers an effective and cost-efficient remote sensing solution. Multi-temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (MT-InSAR) techniques, particularly utilizing Persistent Scatterers, have proven successful in monitoring various infrastructures, natural phenomena, and geological activities. MT-InSAR provides precise measurements without the need for fieldwork, utilizing historical SAR image archives dating back to the 1990s. Technological advancements, such as the Sentinel-1 C-band with a six-day revisit time until the end of 2021, have enhanced monitoring capabilities. Additionally, commercial radar images in the X-band and the development of multi-interferometric InSAR techniques have opened new avenues for monitoring. This study showcases the adaptation and application of MT-InSAR for monitoring dams and large ponds constructed with loose materials. By assessing vertical displacements and consolidation rates, the technique identifies potential issues, aiding in further field investigations. Case studies involving dams and large reservoirs in Andalusia illustrate the effectiveness of satellite radar interferometry in monitoring their structural stability from space as a routine practice. A fully automated processing system for measuring long-term ground deformation time series and deformation rates frame-by-frame using the Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) processing technique was developed and tested. Among the several factors that affect DInSAR's precision, such as temporal decorrelation and atmospheric noise, it was observed that seasonal spatial-temporal variability in radar penetration depth is the greatest contributor to the loss of precision of the long-term deformation rate measurement. This spatial-temporal signal is described for a specific region in the northern US; however, it is widely observed in multiple regions. In these regions, a gradual penetration depth increase is observed in fall and winter, and an abrupt penetration depth decrease is observed in spring. The latter effect is likely caused by rapid melting of ice and snow that, at the same time, significantly reduces interferometric coherence. Within a specific geographic region, radar penetration depth spatially varies proportionally to the elevation due to an elevation-dependent temperature gradient, producing artifacts that correlate well with the topography. This signal does not extend to high-elevation regions (above ~2500 m) that do not experience seasonal thawing, which allows for distinguishing it from the topography-dependent atmospheric signals. Without accounting for the spatial-temporal variability in radar penetration depth, deformation time series in these areas can contain either an annual periodic signal with an amplitude of over 0.1 m or, if the abrupt penetration depth decrease produced by melting is not resolved due to lower coherence, an erroneous interannual trend. Spatial-temporal variability in radar penetration depth needs to be better understood and corrected to improve the precision of long-term deformation rate products, particularly in regions susceptible to seasonal freezing and thawing. The Radar Cross Section (RCS) plays a crucial role in radar systems, serving to detect and characterize radar targets. Moreover, the need to penetrate foliage and capture images of man-made structures like roads and buildings has driven the development of very high frequency/ultra high frequency (VHF/UHF)-based radar systems. In this context, we propose a novel polyphase-coded spread spectrum (PCSS) radar system designed for RCS measurements and ISAR imaging over VHF/UHF radio channels in open environments. To provide a comprehensive understanding, we examined the open range, considering factors such as amplitude distribution function, root mean square (RMS) delay, and coherence bandwidth, followed by a link budget analysis. We also conducted a comparative study of RCS measurements to evaluate the performance of the proposed radar system, demonstrating its effectiveness through theoretical calculations. This paper focuses on the automated extraction of textural features from segmented Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery, which was captured on 25th August 2017. Textural properties play a pivotal role in discerning regions of interest in satellite imagery, essential for precise classification in diverse applications, including remote sensing, medical image analysis, biometric analysis, and document image analysis. To achieve this, the Local Adaptive Threshold (LAT) technique was employed for segmenting the foreground and background areas of the pre-processed vertical transmit-vertical receive (VV) polarized Sentinel-1A SAR data. The approach relies on second-order statistics, specifically co-occurrence measures, which evaluate the relationships between pairs of pixels within their local neighbourhood's in the input image. Four fundamental second-order statistical measures, namely correlation, energy, homogeneity, and contrast, were computed using the Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM). The GLCM was generated by quantizing the foreground region of the segmented grey-scale image into different levels, including 8, 16, and 64 grey levels, considering two inter-pixel distances, d=1 and d=2, and adopting an omni-directional orientation (θ = 00, 450, 900, 1350).The results underscore the effectiveness of the GLCM-based approach in computing second-order statistical texture measures from the segmented SAR image. Notably, the findings highlight that quantizing the image to Ng=8 with d=1 and considering omni-directional statistical measures (θ = 00, 450, 900, 1350) significantly enhances performance. The Biomass Proxy is a new cloud-free vegetation monitoring product that offers timely and analysis-ready data indicative of above-ground crop biomass dynamics at 10m spatial resolution. The Biomass Proxy links the consistent and continuous temporal signal of the Sentinel-1 Cross Ratio (CR), a vegetation index derived from Synthetic Aperture Radar backscatter, with the spatial information of the Sentinel-2 Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), a vegetation index derived from optical observations. A global scaling relationship between CR and NDVI forms the basis of a novel fusion methodology based on static and dynamic combinations of temporal and spatial responses of CR and NDVI at field level. The fusion process is used to mitigate the impact on product quality of low satellite revisit periods due to acquisition design or persistent cloud coverage, and to respond to rapid changes in a timely manner to detect environmental and management events. The resulting Biomass Proxy provides time series that are continuous, unhindered by clouds, and produced uniformly across all geographical regions and crops. With the advent of constellations of SAR satellites, and the possibility of swarms of SAR UAV's, there is increased interest in multistatic SAR image formation. This may provide advantages including allowing three‐dimensional image formation free of clutter overlay; the coherent combination of bistatic SAR geometries for improved image resolution; and the collection of additional scattering information, including polarimetric. The polarimetric collection may provide useful target information, such as its orientation, polarisability, or number of interactions with the radar signal; distributed receivers would be more likely to capture any bright specular responses from targets in the scene, making target outlines distinct. Highlight results from multistatic polarimetric SAR experiments at the Cranfield University GBSAR laboratory are presented, illustrating the utility of the approach for fully sampled 3D SAR image formation, and for sparse aperture SAR 3D point‐cloud generation with a newly developed volumetric multistatic interferometry algorithm. In order to achieve miniaturization, short-range radar (SRR) generally adopts millimeter-wave (MMW) radar with a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) system, which may make the stop–go–stop assumption in traditional synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging algorithms invalid. In addition, in order to observe a large enough area, SRR often needs a wide radar beam, which may cause serious range–azimuth coupling when using SRR for SAR imaging. The above two problems may make the traditional SAR imaging algorithm invalid in SRR SAR imaging. Taking the SRR SAR imaging application into account, traditional frequency domain SAR imaging algorithms are analyzed and improved in this paper. Firstly, the intra-pulse motion (IPM) caused by the FMCW system and the two-dimensional coupling (TDC) in the case of a wide beam are analyzed. Subsequently, the applicability of the range Doppler algorithm (RDA), the frequency scaling algorithm (FSA) and the range migration algorithm (RMA) for SRR SAR is analyzed. Then, improvement measures are put forward to address the aliasing and folding phenomena caused by the wide-beam problem in the FSA and RMA, respectively. With the widespread application and functional complexity of deep neural networks (DNNs), the demand for training samples is increasing. This elevated requirement also extends to DNN-based SAR object detection. Most public SAR object detection datasets are oriented to marine targets such as ships, while data sets oriented to land targets are relatively rare, though they are an effective way to improve the land object detection capability of deep models through SAR sample generation. In this paper, a synthesis generation collaborative SAR sample augmentation framework is proposed to achieve flexible and diverse high-quality sample augmentation. First, a semantic-layout-guided image synthesis strategy is proposed to generate diverse detection samples. The issues of object location rationality and object layout diversity are also addressed. Meanwhile, a pix2pixGAN network guided by layout maps is utilized to achieve diverse background augmentation. Second, a progressive training strategy of diffusion models is proposed to achieve semantically controllable SAR sample generation to further improve the diversity of scene clutter. Finally, a sample cleaning method considering distribution migration and network filtering is employed to further improve the quality of detection samples. The experimental results show that this semantic synthesis generation method can outperform existing sample augmentation methods, leading to a comprehensive improvement in the accuracy metrics of classical detection networks. In recent years, super-resolution imaging techniques have been intensely introduced to enhance the azimuth resolution of real aperture scanning radar (RASR). However, there is a paucity of research on the subject of sea surface imaging with small incident angles for complex scenarios. This research endeavors to explore super-resolution imaging for sea surface monitoring, with a specific emphasis on grounded or shipborne platforms. To tackle the inescapable interference of sea clutter, it was segregated from the imaging objects and was modeled alongside I/Q channel noise within the maximum likelihood framework, thus mitigating clutter's impact. Simultaneously, for characterizing the non-stationary regions of the monitoring scene, we harnessed the Markov random field (MRF) model for its two-dimensional (2D) spatial representational capacity, augmented by a quadratic term to bolster outlier resilience. Subsequently, the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion was employed to unite the ML function with the statistical model regarding imaging scene. This hybrid model forms the core of our super-resolution methodology. Finally, a fast iterative threshold shrinkage method was applied to solve this objective function, yielding stable estimates of the monitored scene. Through the validation of simulation and real data experiments, the superiority of the proposed approach in recovering the monitoring scenes and clutter suppression has been verified. Planetary radar observations have provided invaluable information on the solar system through both ground-based and space-based observations. In this overview article, we summarize how radar observations have contributed in planetary science, how the radar technology as a remote-sensing method for planetary exploration and the methods to interpret the radar data have advanced in the eight decades of increasing use, where the field stands in the early 2020s, and what are the future prospects of the ground-based facilities conducting planetary radar observations and the planned spacecraft missions equipped with radar instruments. The focus of the paper is on radar as a remote-sensing technique using radar instruments in spacecraft orbiting planetary objects and in Earth-based radio telescopes, whereas ground-penetrating radar systems on landers are mentioned only briefly. The key scientific developments are focused on the search for water ice in the subsurface of the Moon, which could be an invaluable in situ resource for crewed missions, dynamical and physical characterization of near-Earth asteroids, which is also crucial for effective planetary defense, and a better understanding of planetary geology. Disasters broadly impact livelihood and the environment. Interrelated disasters cause significant casualties and loss because each type of disaster contributes to a series of impacts. An example of multiple disaster events in Indonesia is the 2018 Palu earthquake. This earthquake triggered tsunami, liquefaction, and rupture. Many studies on this earthquake only focused on either earthquake, tsunami, or liquefaction without conducting further impact analysis of a combined hazard. This study aimed to estimate tidal inundation in Palu City based on the deformation rate related to the earthquake and sea level rise. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data were processed with Parallel Small Baseline Subset Interferometry (P-SBAS) to produce a deformation rate using the Geohazard Exploitation Platform (GEP). This rate was then combined with DEMNAS data and modelled sea level to determine the spatial distribution of potential tidal inundation. The results indicated that when the Palu-Koro fault remains active, this activity could generate a tidal flood in 2050 and 2100. Flood prediction scenarios suggested that the impact covers central Palu, i.e., Palu Barat and Palu Timur districts, which is almost one-fifth of the research area. The Sissingué Gold Project is in Northern Côte d'Ivoire and part of the southern extension, a large peneplain of the landscape in South Mali. The area has experienced extensive weathering and erosion over a long time, resulting in a widespread and complex regolith cover. This diverse and vast regolith cover poses considerable difficulties for exploration. To overcome this problem, we adopted mapping of regolith units using machine learning (ML) with support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms. The main objectives were to (1) make the predictive regolith map of the study region using these algorithms with data obtained from Landsat-8 operational land imager, Advanced Land Observing Satellite Phased Array Type L-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar digital elevation model and Sentinel-1A; (2) show the method of pre-processing and processing the required data and (3) develop the regolith landform unit (RLU) map from the predictive regolith map and collected data based on the Relict – Erosional – Depositional model. Tests using the SVM and ANN algorithms showed that both ML tools could accurately map regolith landforms. An innovative method of optimizing data using parameters is presented. The results showed that ANN outperformed SVM with an overall accuracy of 87.01% and a kappa coefficient of 0.84, whereas the corresponding values for SVM were 86.69% and 0.84, respectively. However, the validation data obtained from SVM-based prediction exhibited a better score than that of validation data obtained from ANN-based prediction. The Sentinel-1A radar band combined with Landsat-8 data reduced the vegetation-masking effect and improved the classification results. The RLUs of this area are composed primarily of relicts at 24.91%, including lateritic residuum and soil, depositional material at 36.39% with exotic sediments and ferrierite and the remaining 38.7% of erosional material made of saprolite, colluvial fragments, and mottled zones on flanks. In classical radar imaging, such as in Earth remote sensing, electromagnetic waves are usually assumed to propagate in free space. However, in numerous applications, such as ground penetrating radar or non-destructive testing, this assumption no longer holds. When there is a multi-material background, the subsurface image reconstruction becomes considerably more complex. Imaging can be performed in the spatial domain or, equivalently, in the wavenumber domain (k-space). In subsurface imaging, to date, objects with a non-planar surface are commonly reconstructed in the spatial domain, by the Backprojection algorithm combined with ray tracing, which is computationally demanding. On the other hand, objects with a planar surface can be reconstructed more efficiently in k-space. However, many non-planar surfaces are partly planar. Therefore, in this paper, a novel concept is introduced that makes use of the efficient k-space-based reconstruction algorithms for partly planar scenarios, too. The proposed algorithm forms an image from superposing sub-images where as many image parts as possible are reconstructed in the wavenumber domain, and only as many as necessary are reconstructed in the spatial domain. For this, a segmentation scheme is developed to determine which parts of the image volume can be reconstructed in the wavenumber domain. The novel concept is verified by measurements, both from monostatic synthetic aperture radar data and multiple-input–multiple-output radar data. The shadow statistical method (SSM) used for extracting the significant wave height (SWH) from X-band marine radar images was further investigated because of its advantage of not requiring an external reference for calibration. Currently, a fixed shadow segmentation threshold is utilized to extract the SWH from a radar image based on the SSM. However, the retrieval accuracy of the SWH is not ideal for low wind speeds since the echo intensity of sea waves rapidly decays over distance. In order to solve this problem, an adaptive shadow threshold, which varies with echo intensity over distance and can accurately divide the radar image into shadow and nonshadow areas, is adopted to calculate the wave slope (WS) based on the texture feature of the edge image. Instead of using the averaged WS, the wave slope feature vector (WSFV) is constructed for retrieving the SWH since the illumination ratio and the calculated WS in the azimuth are different for shore-based radar images. In this paper, the SWH is calculated based on the constructed WSFV and classical support vector regression (SVR) technology. The collected 222 sets of X-band marine radar images with an SWH range of 1.0∼3.5 m and an average wind speed range of 5∼10 m/s were utilized to verify the performance of the proposed approach. The buoy record, which was deployed during the experiment, was used as the ground truth. For the proposed approach, the mean bias (BIAS) and the mean absolute error (MAE) were 0.03 m and 0.14 m when the ratio of the training set to the test set was 1:1. Compared to the traditional SSM, the correlation coefficient (CC) of the proposed approach increased by 0.27, and the root mean square error (RMSE) decreased by 0.28 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A general limitation in assessing the accuracy of land cover mapping is the availability of ground truth data. At sites where ground truth is not available, potentially inaccurate proxy datasets are used for sub-field-scale resolution investigations at large spatial scales, i.e., in the Contiguous United States. The USDA/NASS Cropland Data Layer (CDL) is a popular agricultural land cover dataset due to its high accuracy (>80%), resolution (30 m), and inclusions of many land cover and crop types. However, because the CDL is derived from satellite imagery and has resulting uncertainties, comparisons to available in situ data are necessary for verifying classification performance. This study compares the cropland mapping accuracies (crop/non-crop) of an optical approach (CDL) and the radar-based crop area (CA) approach used for the upcoming NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) L- and S-band mission but using Sentinel-1 C-band data. CDL and CA performance are compared to ground truth data that includes 54 agricultural production and research fields located at USDA's Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Maryland, USA. We also evaluate non-crop mapping accuracy using twenty-six built-up and thirteen forest sites at BARC. The results show that the CDL and CA have a good pixel-wise agreement with one another (87%). However, the CA is notably more accurate compared to ground truth data than the CDL. The 2017–2021 mean accuracies for the CDL and CA, respectively, are 77% and 96% for crop, 100% and 94% for built-up, and 100% and 100% for forest, yielding an overall accuracy of 86% for the CDL and 96% for CA. This difference mainly stems from the CDL under-detecting crop cover at BARC, especially in 2017 and 2018. We also note that annual accuracy levels varied less for the CA (91–98%) than for the CDL (79–93%). This study demonstrates that a computationally inexpensive radar-based cropland mapping approach can also give accurate results over complex landscapes with accuracies similar to or better than optical approaches. This paper investigates the performance of a wide variety of radar imaging modes, such as nadir-looking B-scan, or side-looking synthetic aperture radar tomographic acquisitions, performed in both back- and forward-scattering geometries, for the inspection and characterization of roadways. Nadir-looking B-scan corresponds to a low-complexity mode exploiting the direct return from the response, whereas side-looking configurations allow the utilization of angular and polarimetric diversity in order to analyze advanced features. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the ability of each configuration, independently of aspects related to operational implementation, to discriminate and localize shallow underground defects in the wearing course of roadways, and to estimate key geophysical parameters, such as roughness and dielectric permittivity. Campaign measurements are conducted using short-range radar stepped-frequency continuous-waveform (SFCW) devices operated in the C and X bands, at the pavement fatigue carousel of Université Gustave Eiffel, over debonded areas with artificial defects. The results indicate the great potential of the newly proposed forward-scattering tomographic configuration for detecting slight defects and characterizing roadways. Case studies, performed in the presence of narrow horizontal heterogeneities which cannot be detected using classical B-scan, show that both the coherent integration along an aperture using the back-projection algorithm, and the exploitation of scattering mechanisms specific to the forward-looking bistatic geometry, allows anomalous echoes to be detected and further characterized, confirming the efficacy of radar imaging techniques in such applications. The coupling at the interface between tectonic plates is a key geophysical parameter to capture the frictional locking across plate boundaries and provides a means to estimate where tectonic strain is accumulating through time. Here, we use both interferometric radar (InSAR) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data to investigate the plate coupling of the Hikurangi subduction zone beneath the North Island of New Zealand, where multiple slow slip cycles are superimposed on the long‐term loading. We estimate the plate coupling across the subduction zone over three multi‐year observational periods targeting different stages of the slow slip cycle. Our results highlight the importance of the observational time period when interpreting coupling maps, emphasizing the temporal variability of plate coupling. Leveraging multiple geodetic data sets, we demonstrate how InSAR provides powerful constraints on the spatial resolution of both plate coupling and slow fault slip, even in a region where a dense GNSS network exists. Such accumulated stress (over hundreds to thousands of years) will eventually be released in earthquakes, and therefore provides important information about the potential for future earthquakes. This paper presents for the first time the results of marine gravity recovery using the ocean observation data acquired by Tiangong-2 interferometric imaging radar altimeter (TG2 InIRA) which demonstrate not only the balanced accuracies of the north and east components of deflection of the vertical (DOV) as envisaged, but also the improved spatial resolutions of DOV compared with that by conventional altimeters (CAs). Moreover, much higher measurement efficiency owing to the wide-swath capability and the great potential in accuracy improvement of marine gravity field are also demonstrated. TG2 InIRA adopts the interferometry with short baseline and takes small incidence angles, by which wide-swath sea surface height (SSH) can be measured with high accuracy. Gravity recovery experiments in the Western Pacific area are conducted to demonstrate the performance, advantages and capability of TG2 InIRA. SSH data processing algorithms and DOV calculation have been designed by taking the wide-swath feature into account, based on which, the gravity anomalies are then calculated using the inverse Vening Meinesz formula. The derived gravity anomalies are compared with both the published gravity models and the shipborne gravity measurements. The results show that the accuracy of TG2 InIRA is equivalent to, or even a little better than, that of CAs. The fused gravity result using equal TG2 InIRA data and CAs data performs better than those using TG2 InIRA data alone or CAs data alone. Due to the signal bandwidth of TG2 InIRA is only 40 MHz which is much smaller than that of CAs, much higher accuracy can be hopefully achieved for future missions if larger signal bandwidth is used. Wind turbines negatively affect the performance of weather radars, especially when located in the proximity of a radar site. In March 2019, MeteoSwiss performed a measurement campaign by deploying a mobile X-band radar in Schaffhausen. It proved to be useful for mapping and characterizing the maximum power returns by three wind turbines observed using standard scanning strategies. In March 2020, the campaign was repeated using a more sophisticated scan strategy: ∼ 100 min special sessions of fixed pointing an antenna towards the nacelle of the closest wind turbine (WT) located within a range of 7766 m from the radar, interleaved every 2 h by a scanning protocol identical to that of the March 2019 campaign. Polarimetric radar signatures were derived every 64 ms using 128 radar pulses transmitted every 0.5 ms (pulse repetition frequency (PRF) = 2000 Hz). A thorough overview of the polarimetric signatures of the WT in still or quasi-still conditions has been obtained based on 30 000 polarimetric measurables acquired over 32 min on the first day of the campaign (4 March 2020). During the first 2 min with zero rotor speed, the co-polar correlation coefficient between the orthogonal polarization states, ρHV , was persistently equal to 1, similarly to the signature of a bright scatterer observed by a non-rotating antenna. The changes between two consecutive values of the differential reflectivity and radar reflectivity factor were either 0 dBz or ± 0.5 dBz. Due to the absence of precipitation, one could assume that the standard deviation of the differential phase shift, which was as small as 3.0 ∘ , can be entirely attributed to the variability of the differential backscattering phase shift. There were two 10 min periods during which the rotor moved less than 1 revolution. It is worth noting that this slow movement could be associated with a change in the blade pitch angle and the nacelle orientation, which caused extreme changes in the radar reflectivity factor. Different studies demonstrated that the monitoring of the vibrational characteristics of bridges can be fostered using real aperture radar interferometers. Commercial systems operating at Ku band have been made available to the users since the last two decades. Analyzing the phase of the radar signal, which is related to the displacement of the phase center of each radar range cell, the radar bin, a description of the vibrating mode of civil structures as bridges, towers, and tall buildings can be achieved. Displacement time series of different parts of the monitored structure can be processed to retrieve the frequency and amplitude of the vibrational modes to evaluate the dynamic behavior of the structure. Systems operating at higher frequencies and using advanced radar techniques have been recently proposed. Here we report the use of two different radar systems, working at Ku and K band respectively, to compare their performance, when used to monitor a railway bridge located in Spain. The radar acquisitions were realized by positioning the radar systems at different locations, to detect multiple vibrational modes. Aperture‐synthesis images of ionospheric irregularities in the equatorial electrojet are computed using multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) radar methods at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory. MIMO methods increase the number of distinct interferometry baselines available for imaging (by a factor of essentially three in these experiments) as well as the overall size of the synthetic aperture. The particular method employed here involves time‐division multiplexing or time diversity to distinguish pulses transmitted from different quarters of the Jicamarca array. The method comes at the cost of a large increase in computation time and complexity and a reduced signal‐to‐noise ratio. We discuss the details involved in the signal processing and the trade space involved in image optimization. The south polar layered deposits (SPLD) of Mars record its Amazonian climate history. Detailed stratigraphic analyses of the SPLD will improve our understanding of the Martian depositional system. Radar reflection patterns correlate with the varying composition of the internal layers, thus providing a key to unlocking the depositional history of the SPLD and Martian paleoclimate. Using data from SHAllow RADar (SHARAD) onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, we studied a new type of weak reflection pattern (shadow zone) across the SPLD. These shadow zones lack identifiable bases and are generally deeper than previously reported low‐reflection zones interpreted as sealed CO2 ice. The discrepancy between the waveforms of shadow zones in focused and unfocused radargrams was used to identify whether the shadow zones were associated with fog‐related data‐processing artifacts. Numerical simulations utilizing various dielectric models demonstrate that lossy materials are most likely the cause of the shadow zone. These materials are expected to exhibit a gradual increase in concentration with depth, ranging from pure water ice to lossy materials at a scale of >50 m. The presence of such lossy materials is consistent with the compositional heterogeneity of SPLD, but their origins remain obscure. Plain Language Summary: Orbital radar data reveal diverse reflection patterns within the south polar layered deposits (SPLD) of Mars, providing valuable insights into their internal structure and composition. The reflection powers are low or even non‐existent when there is weak compositional variation or the material is lossy. This study reports and investigates a low‐reflection zone, referred to as the shadow zone, in the SHAllow RADar (SHARAD) data across the SPLD. The shadow zones exist in the background of a diffuse echo signature known as radar fog. Compared to previously reported low‐reflection zones, shadow zones typically lack a detectable base and exhibit significantly greater depth. We analyzed the waveform of the SHARAD radargrams and the results indicate the presence of two distinct types of shadow zones: one attributed to fog‐related artifacts, and the other classified as real shadow zones. Numerical simulations indicate the real shadow zones are likely linked to lossy materials such as salts, clays, and/or mafic minerals. These materials are expected to exhibit a distribution of gradual increasing concentration with depth in the SPLD. This research provides new insights into the internal composition of the SPLD and its potential relationship with the climate of Mars. Based on the results of processing an interferometric pair of PALSAR-2 L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images taken over the territory of the Bureya landslide in May 2019 and May 2020 from the ALOS-2 satellite, a new unstable surface region has been discovered. The average monthly rate of soil displacement was estimated to be up to 1 cm/month along the slope surface at the site of the formation of a new scarp. It is noted that the materials of interferometric processing of archival data did not previously reveal any movements of the slope surface in this place. The most probable reason for the activation of the landslide process in the new area is named: a violation of stability as a result of the descent in December 2018 of the underlying landslide body. Ground-based radar has been used for Moon imaging for more than 60 years. Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), as the largest radio telescope on Earth, holds significant potential for celestial imaging missions with its exceptional sensitivity. A bistatic Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Moon imaging model that incorporates FAST and other transmitting radars is presented. The objective of this paper is to design the imaging parameters of this bistatic configuration based on the required resolution, and to estimate the resolution performance based on a given bistatic system capability. Considering the ultra-far range and the ultra-long observation time between the radars and the Moon, the geometric relationship involved in this bistatic configuration is significantly distinct from the bistatic configuration of airborne and spaceborne radars. Therefore, this paper accurately derives the two-dimensional resolution on the Moon's surface. First of all, the models of the Earth's surface and the Moon's surface, and the celestial motion of the Earth and Moon are established using WGS-84 and JPL-DE421, given by STK. Secondly, the bistatic range history within the observation time is calculated in terms of continuous celestial motion instead of the popular 'stop-and-go' assumption. Thirdly, no approximation is used in the resolution derivation process, and, in addition to the two-dimensional resolutions, the incident angle and the included angle are also given to describe the imaging performance. This method can also be extended to other bistatic-station and single-station celestial imaging, providing support for radar location and parameters design, for observation time span selection, for observation area selection, and for imaging performance estimation. Feature extraction and recognition of underwater targets are important in military and civilian areas. This paper studied water surface acoustic wave (WSAW) detection by a millimeter wave (mmWave) radar. The mmWave-based endpoint detection method of the WSAW was introduced. Simulated results show that the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) method has a better detection performance. A 77 GHz large aperture antenna mmWave radar sensor and an underwater acoustic transmitter have been applied to conduct laboratory experiments. Still water surface experimental results verify that the CWT method has better detection capability, and the mmWave radar can accurately detect even 155 nm WSAW. Wavy water surface experimental results demonstrate the ability of the mmWave radar to analyze the time-frequency feature of the weak WSAW signal. Ground-based radar interferometry is capable of measuring target displacement to sub-mm accuracy. W-band ground-based radar has recently been investigated as a potential application for structural health monitoring. On the other hand, the application of W-band ground-based radar for natural slope monitoring is considered in this study due to its advantages in portability and recent cost-effective solutions. In radar interferometry, atmospheric phase screen (APS) is the most relevant phase disturbance that should be corrected for accurate displacement measurement. However, the APS effects in W-band radar interferometry have rarely been discussed. In this context, we study and evaluate the impacts of APS and its potential correction methods for 79 GHz ground-based radar interferometry using multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) radar. This paper presents an experimental investigation of a 79 GHz radar system using two types of field experiments conducted in an open flat field and a quarry site. In addition to the W-band radar system, a Ku-band (17 GHz) ground-based synthetic aperture radar (GB-SAR) system was jointly tested to compare different operating frequency bands. In this paper, the application of a hybrid representation in wide‐angle synthetic aperture radar (WASAR) imaging is investigated, addressing the challenge of achieving sparse representation in the presence of complex electromagnetic scattering characteristics and highly anisotropic targets. A convolutional neural network is utilized to represent the two‐dimensional data within each azimuth aperture, while employing blind compressed sensing (BCS) to achieve sparse representation across different azimuth apertures. Convolutional neural network (CNN) excels in learning spatial hierarchies and local dependencies of two‐dimensional data but requires a large amount of training data. Isotropic targets within each azimuth aperture can be used for training conventional SAR data, while acquiring training samples for anisotropic targets poses challenges. To address this issue, BCS are integrated into WASAR imaging, eliminating the need for additional training data. By integrating these methods, a novel approach called hybrid‐WASAR is proposed, which incorporates two regularization terms into WASAR imaging and employs the alternating direction method of multipliers to iteratively solve the imaging model. Compared to traditional WASAR imaging techniques, hybrid‐WASAR improves the accuracy of reconstructing the backscattering coefficients of the targets, leading to a significant enhancement in overall imaging quality. This paper intends to propose an automated deep learning-based land cover classification model of remote sensing images. The model includes (i) pre-processing, (ii) feature extraction and (iii) classification. The captured synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) and Landsat-8 images are initially pre-processed using the Gabor filtering model. Subsequently, from SAR images the gray-level-co-occurrence matrix-based texture characteristics are extracted, and temperature vegetation index-based characteristics, normalized vegetation index-based features, normalized difference index-based features and coloration index features are extracted from Landsat-8 images. Finally, the extracted features are subjected to an optimized deep belief network (DBN), where the weight is fine-tuned by the optimization logic. For this, a new Sunflower adopted Red Deer (SARD) algorithm is introduced in this work that hybrids the concept of Red Deer algorithm and Sunflower optimization. The performance of the proposed classification model is compared over other conventional models concerning different measures. Especially, the accuracy of the presented work (SARD+DBN) for Testcase3 is 5, 7, 6 and 30% better than existing DA + DBN, JA + DBN, SLnO+DBN and LA + DBN methods, respectively. High-fidelity deception jamming can seriously mislead synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image interpretation and target detection, which is difficult to identify or eliminate through traditional anti-jamming methods. Based on the range–Doppler algorithm (RDA), an anti-jamming method for SAR using joint waveform modulation and azimuth mismatched filtering is proposed in this letter. The signal model of SAR echo after pulse compression with deception jamming is derived from the radar detection and jamming characteristics. A multiobjective cost function is introduced to suppress the jamming level and keep the real target information, parameterized with the waveform initial phase and the azimuth mismatched filter coefficients, which is optimized using the second-order Taylor expansion approximation and the alternating direction multiplier method (ADMM). Along-track synthetic aperture radar interferometry (ATI) systems are used to detect a moving target and to estimate its radial velocity. A dual-channel (single-baseline) ATI system estimates the velocity ambiguously because there are many candidate velocities corresponding to the interferometric phase. To resolve the ambiguity of the estimates, a multichannel (multibaseline) ATI system is required. This letter proposes an efficient implementation technique of a multichannel ATI system by using a frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar and an antenna arrangement method considering the inherent bi-static characteristic of FMCW radars. Also, a simple and robust radial velocity estimation algorithm suitable for the proposed system model is presented. The validity of the algorithm is confirmed with simulated ATI results. Floods cause loss of lives and multibillion dollar damages every year. When these events strike, automated tools using remote sensing for quick mapping of the affected areas are critical for planning rescue activities and assessing impact. The most recent techniques to map floods are based on semantic segmentation and deep learning, which require large datasets and ground truth for training, which are difficult to get. To overcome this challenge, we propose an effective method for synthesizing patches of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images containing open-land flooded areas. With bitemporal image acquisitions, we replace portions of land areas in the second acquisition with water pixels borrowed from permanent water bodies. Spatial patterns derived from elevation data help guide the process. With this approach, we build a large dataset with pre- and post-event Sentinel-1-based VH-polarized radar intensity images to train deep neural networks to map real-life floods. In a case study, we use an established U-Net architecture and show that a model version with less than 2% of the number of original parameters achieves almost identical flood detection accuracy. This allows for faster processing and is a clear advantage from an operational perspective. For comparison, we provide empirical segmentation results of four flood cases. F1 scores agree between 0.80 and 0.90 when compared with reference flood maps from the Copernicus service. This confirms that the approach is valuable for mapping areas affected by floods, e.g., during or immediately after catastrophic events, even in areas that were not included during model training. Sea surface salinity (SSS) is measured operationally with radiometers [e.g., soil moisture and ocean salinity (SMOS)] with a resolution from 25 to 40 km. In this contribution, we theoretically evaluate radar sensitivity to SSS, especially we focus on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) due to its intrinsic high-resolution imaging capabilities. This work focuses first on the variations in the dielectric properties of seawater with salinity at different SAR frequency bands (P-, L-, and C-bands) and then evaluate the consequences of both on the normalized radar cross section (NRCS) and copolar phase difference (CPD). The main challenge is to disentangle the sensitivity to dielectric properties from the surface roughness contribution in the SAR backscattered signals. In line with the literature, the results show that the NRCS sensitivity with salinity increases with decreasing operating frequency. It is well-known that the availability of transmit and receive arrays in colocated multiple-input multiple-output radar systems can be exploited to detect multiple targets, and estimate their range and angular coordinates. Unluckily, the accuracy achieved in the estimation of target parameters can be severely affected by hardware nonidealities. The impact of these nonidealities can be mitigated through the adoption of specific methods explicitly developed to estimate and compensate for them, i.e., briefly, of calibration methods. As far as we know, until now, most of the calibration techniques proposed in the technical literature for colocated multiple-input multiple-output radars are based on the idea of placing one or more reference targets in front of the considered radar device at perfectly known and fixed locations, and quantifying the difference between the expected radar image and the measured one. In this manuscript, two novel calibration methods are proposed. Both exploit the measurements captured by a colocated multiple-input multiple-output radar device at multiple positions; for this reason, the acquisition of such measurements involves the movement of the radar. The first one does not require any knowledge about the nature, number, position or radar cross section of the reference targets, provided that all these are in far-field; the second one, instead, needs a single reference target in near-field conditions, with the only constraints for it to be pointwise and isolated from stray targets in the range domain. This drastically simplifies the experimental setup to be employed for radar calibration. The proposed methods are tested on a commercial radar device and compared with a traditional method for radar calibration.
