The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has continued to experience an unprecedented increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows for the past three decades. Evidence of their quantitative impact on the economy is still quite mixed. We use panel data methods on data from the (SADC) for the 1980-2020 period, where our results show that FDI has a positive and statistically significant effect on economic growth; thus, agreeing with some work that has been done on the community and in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our study calls for the development of human capital, the promotion of market liberalization, the improvement of the financial sector and the need for policy measures that prioritize productive investment that is supportive of the local private and foreign sectors; the latter provides positive spillovers to other sectors. Attracting foreign investment is a viable means of ensuring the economic growth of any country. The relevance of the study is substantiated by the creation of a favorable investment climate in the country, which will allow the establishment of guarantees of protection of foreign investments and stability of the legal basis for entrepreneurship performance. The article aims to analyze and forecast the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Ukraine. In order to achieve the stated purpose, the econometric model was developed, which demonstrates the correlation between macroeconomic indicators, their characteristics and the amount of FDI. A set of general scientific and special research methods were used, in particular: induction and deduction, grouping, summarization, comparison, complex and systemic approaches. The article reveals the essence of foreign investment for the Ukrainian economy and defines the characteristics of FDI. The impact of FDI on the economy of Ukraine is analyzed in detail and the conditions for their attraction are substantiated. Using statistical methods, the structure and dynamics of FDI by types of economic activity and investor countries are investigated. The conducted research has shown that through the attraction of foreign direct investment economic growth, the well-being of the population, the reduction of foreign indebtedness and efficient state capital investments are ensured. The importance of free international movement of capital and openness to trade on the world market is very well known and elaborated in the relevant literature. Despite the fact that the most developed countries in the world are the carriers of international capital movements, especially through foreign direct investments, the inflow of foreign capital through foreign direct investments (FDI) is one of the key goals that developing countries set through their development strategies. In this way, developing countries strive to make their economies attractive for the presence of foreign capital in order to increase the level of production and raise the level of employment. What distinguishes developing countries is the high participation of foreign trade. Unlike large economies, which are said in the literature to be self-sufficient, small economies with insufficiently developed economies are nevertheless able to compete on the global market. The subject of research in this paper was to investigate the impact of FDI inflows on the economic growth of developing countries. The research covered 82 developing countries in the period from 1980 to 2020. In the paper, Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) methods were used to examine whether FDI viewed through the share of inflows in GDP and openness viewed through the share of total exchange in GDP increase GDP per capita in developing countries. The obtained results with a high level of statistical significance testify in support of the conclusion that FDI and openness to foreign trade increase GDP per capita in developing countries. The article considers analysing the effect of sector-specific foreign direct investment (FDI) (the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors) on economic growth in 19 developing countries over the period 2005–2018. Variables such as human capital, domestic investment, financial development, openness of the economy, labour force, and arable land were included as control variables. A robust two-step system generalised method of moments (GMM) was utilised for the analysis of the data. The study found that FDI's growth effect is indeed influenced by its sectoral composition in developing countries. The finding reveals that FDI in manufacturing has a positive and statistically significant influence on economic growth, whereas FDI in the tertiary sector has a statistically significant negative effect on economic growth, but FDI in the primary sector has a negative but negligible effect on economic growth. Lastly, it can be concluded from the above results that the more manufacturing FDI that countries attract, the greater their economic growth will be. In light of this, the countries should provide special incentives like tariff reductions, tax holidays, and cheap-rented land supplies in order to attract more manufacturing sector FDI. Economic development is associated with higher energy consumption, which has a direct impact on climate change. As a result, today's growth policies should also align with environmental sustainability goals. Although socioeconomic variables related to air pollution have been extensively studied in previous studies, little research has examined their long- and short-term effects. This study aimed to investigate the long-run and short-run relationship between carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, energy consumption, especially gas as a clean fuel, foreign direct investments (FDI), and gross domestic product (GDP) using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model in Iran during the period of 40 years. The estimation results indicated the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for Iran. Moreover, empirical findings illustrate that the impact of financial growth on CO2 emissions, in the long run, is U-shaped in Iran. The reliance on gas as a fuel for the country led to a reduction of the carbon and ecological footprints in a short time compared to other polluting fuels. Further, our empirical results indicate that economic growth and foreign direct investment contribute to reducing pollutant and carbon emissions in Iran over long and short periods. This study examines the impact of financial development on energy consumption for a wide array of countries. The estimators used for financial development are foreign direct investment, economic growth and urbanization. The study employed a panel data regression on 136 countries with time frame of years 1990 to 2019. The model in this study deploys system GMM technique to estimate the model. The results show that financial development has a significant negative impact on energy consumption overall. Foreign direct investment and urbanization has significant impact on energy consumption. Also, economic growth positive impact on energy consumption its mean that economic growth promotes energy consumption. When dividing further the sample into different groups of regions such as Asian, European, African, North/Latin American and Caribbean countries then mixed results related to the nexus between financial development and energy consumption with respect to economic growth, urbanization and foreign direct investment. This study applies the method of the fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) method and the vector error correction model (VECM) to explore whether institutional quality (IQ) and foreign direct investment (FDI) promoted economic growth (EG) and environmental quality (EQ) in oil-producing and non-oil-producing African countries from 1999 to 2017. The FMOLS findings demonstrate that IQ significantly promoted EG and improved EQ in the non-oil-producing countries, however it only improved EQ and showed no significant impact on EG in oil-producing countries. FDI significantly promoted EG to a higher extent in oil-producing countries than in non-oil-producing countries, but it presented no significant impact on EQ in both groups. The VECM results reveal that (i) two-way causation among IQ and EG, IQ and EQ, FDI and EG, and FDI and EQ was occurred in both groups, in the long-run. (ii) two-way causation among FDI and EQ and one-way causation from FDI to EG was observed in non-oil-producing countries in the short-run. Moreover, two-way causation among IQ and EG, and one-way causation from IQ to EQ were observed in non-oil-producing countries. The relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth (FDI-EG) has been subject to extensive research. The first document related to FDI-EG research in Web of Science was published in 1992 so that the research time is close to 30 years. This article aims to make a bibliometric study to measure the FDI-EG research from different points of view. 1,075 documents with respect to FDI-EG research were collected, and a strong bibliometric analysis was carried out by Bibliometrix software and review of approaches. The Bibliometrix software has revealed the leading researchers, conceptual structure, and thematic evolution of the FDI-EG research. At the same time, reviewing the literature helps to make content analysis, the most influential document analysis, co-authorship analysis, and citation and co-citation analysis. Amongst the findings, C. Chen, Journal of International Economics, and the USA are the most influential researcher, journal, and country, respectively. The FDI-EG research are focussed on the technology and firm performance, research modelling, and theoretical inquiry. More discussions are made in terms of current research status, avenues for future research, advantages and drawbacks of the methods. This study dynamically examines the impact of foreign direct investment and other explanatory variables on economic growth and carbon emissions, and tests the validity of pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) and environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis in China, India, and Singapore from 1980 to 2020. The results of Westerlund's (Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, 69(6):709–748, 2007) panel cointegration test illustrate long-run equilibrium relationships among the proposed set of panel variables in the model. The estimated parameters of the AMG, CCEMG, and MG estimators in each of the specified models show that renewable and non-renewable energy consumption, foreign direct investment, and capital accumulation all have significant and progressive effects on economic growth. However, the labor force is insignificant and carbon emissions have a significant negative impact on economic growth. Non-renewable energy consumption significantly stimulates and renewable energy consumption significantly reduces carbon emissions. Moreover, the moderating role of non-renewable energy in the impact of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions is significantly positive, thus validating the PHH. The moderating role of renewable energy consumption in the impact of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions is significantly negative. The study's analysis also clearly validated the inverted U-shaped EKC hypothesis in China, India, and Singapore. Policymakers in emerging economies must prioritize the maturity of renewable energy, which not only increases productivity but also protects the environment from damage by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The governments of China, India, and Singapore should initiate direct foreign inflows based on advanced and clean technologies to avoid environmental degradation and drive higher growth in these economies. Financial inclusion is critical to inclusive growth, proffering policy solutions to eradicate the barriers that exclude individuals from financial markets. This study explores the effects of financial inclusion on economic growth in a global perspective with a large number of panels classified by income and regional levels from 2002–2020. The analysis begins with the development of a comprehensive composite financial inclusion index comprised of penetration, availability, and usage of financial services and the estimation of heterogeneous panel data models augmented with well-known variables. The results obtained from the panel cointegration test support a long-run relationship between economic growth, financial inclusion, and the control variables in the full panel, income-level, and regional-level economies. Furthermore, the study employs a GMM (generalized method of moment) approach using System-GMM estimators to examine the effects of financial inclusion and the control predictors on economic growth. The results of the GMM model clearly indicate that financial inclusion has a significantly positive impact on economic growth across all panels, implying that financial inclusion is an effective tool in fostering rapid economic growth in the world. Finally, the study delves into the causality relationship between the predictors and provides statistical evidence of bidirectional causality between economic growth and financial inclusion, whereas it only supports unidirectional causality relationships from credit to the private sector, foreign direct investment, inflation rate, the rule of law, school enrollment ratio, and trade openness with no feedback causality. This study examines the causal nexus between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the economic growth of seven (7) regions encompassing 117 countries. A more recent panel dataset over the period 2010–2020 was analysed using the Granger causality approach and panel VAR/block exogeneity test to conduct predictive analysis among the panel series. Wavelet coherence techniques too were adapted in bringing novelty and further justifications to the research in exploring the interaction effects of the variables, which are yet to be popularised in the studied discipline. The empirical results indicate the presence of bi-directional causality between FDI and economic growth globally and in the Asian region. In contrast, the causality is uni-directional in the American region. A non-directional causality was discovered in European, Oceanian, Mediterranean, and African regions, and the findings were consistent with the outcome of the wavelet coherence technique results. The study further classifies the regions into three cross-market categories such as developed, emerging and frontier markets. The results imply no causality for most developed and emerging economies in the regional analysis. Findings also provide insights for governments and policymakers worldwide to formulate policies on directing FDI flows and propositions for a host country to become a more conducive destination for FDI and accelerate economic growth. The present study investigates the effects of renewable energy, nonrenewable energy, and foreign direct investment (FDI) on output growth in the five South Asian economies. For this purpose, a panel growth model has developed over the period 1990–2018. Pedroni cointegration estimates indicate that renewable, nonrenewable energy, FDI, and gross domestic product (GDP) are cointegrated. The results from the panel fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) depict the nonrenewable energy stimulates output growth. FDI also has a positive impact on output growth. Besides, the empirical results confirm that renewable energy has a significant and positive impact on output growth in the South Asian economies. This paper analyses the gender-, age- and educational attainment level-specific output–employment relationship and its dependence on foreign direct investment (FDI). The unbalanced panel covers 25 European Union countries' data from 2000 to 2020. Empirical estimations are made using the pooled OLS estimator. The impact of FDI on gender-, age- and educational attainment level-specific output–employment elasticities is estimated by including the multiplicative terms between gross domestic product (GDP) and FDI in regression models. The main results indicate the positive impact of economic growth on employment, with the highest output–employment elasticities for males and youth regardless of gender. The estimation results also indicate limited abilities of economic growth to increase the employment of highly educated people and females older than 25 years regardless of their educational attainment level. Our results suggest that higher FDI level in the host countries is mostly associated with the decreasing employment reaction to economic growth. Although FDI is an important factor affecting the output–employment relationship, it does not help to solve the problem of unemployment in the EU, especially for youth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Building a green and healthy economic system and achieving high‐quality economic growth have long been the development goals pursued by the Chinese government. Under the local government competition system, coordinating the relationship between economic growth and ecological sustainability is a decisive factor for China's high‐quality development. As a former state planned economy, China inherited a legacy of setting economic growth targets at various levels of government. This paper analyzes the relationship between economic growth targets and ecological efficiency by using panel data models and spatial econometric techniques. Moreover, the mediating effect model and dynamic threshold effect model are used to study their influence mechanism and the possible nonlinear relationship. The results indicate that there is an inverted U‐shaped relationship between economic growth targets and ecological efficiency. Optimizing industrial structure and R&D investment can improve regional ecological efficiency. The economic growth targets in neighboring regions have a "U"‐shaped relationship with local ecological efficiency. The mechanism test results suggest that economic growth targets affect ecological efficiency by influencing financial development, foreign direct investment, infrastructure investment, environmental regulation, and technological innovation. The impact of economic growth targets on ecological efficiency shows a significant threshold effect when economic growth targets, industrial structure, R&D levels, financial development, foreign direct investment, infrastructure investment, and environmental regulation are at different threshold values. Therefore, to promote regional healthy competition and ecological efficiency, the government should formulate scientific and reasonable economic growth goals and improve the official evaluation system. Thailand has been productive in attracting FDI flows since the beginning of economic development in 1986. It is to continue to increase inward FDI, thus the objective of this research is to investigate the inward FDI on economic growth in Thailand. The main question is what determinants attract, promote, and sustain the inward FDI in Thailand. In addition, this research also adapts the concept of the eclectic paradigm to establish the research framework. The 22 independent variables which are grouped into 4 factors such as human capital, economic, infrastructure, and policy and related factors. The correlation result shows the positive relative strength and direction of a linear relationship among independent variables at the 1% level of significance. A total data collection between 1981 and 2021 were collected various sources such as worldbank, board of investment of Thailand, stock exchange of Thailand, bank of Thailand, International Monetary Fund, UNCTAD, and office of national economic and social development board. The results show 11 variables are positive and significant, but 2 variables are negative and significant. This research study examines the factors that determined economic growth measured by gross domestic product, gross value added, final consumption expenditure of households, and gross fixed capital formation across a sample of 36 European countries during the time frame Q3 2018−Q3 2021. We conducted a panel data analysis with the first-difference generalized method of moments (GMM) approach and cross-section fixed effects. Empirical results estimated with four econometric models indicated a significant robust impact of the independent variables exports, imports, foreign direct investment inflow, foreign direct investment outflow, social contributions, and wages on economic growth proxies. In addition, multiplex network analysis was used to investigate the connection architectures of the 36 countries, and it yielded statistical measurements for all layers in the multi-layered structure. Fiscal credibility plays an important role in creating favorable scenarios for investment and economic growth. Adequate management of public finances can be decisive in the perception of country risk and the attraction of foreign capital. The aim of this paper is to build a fiscal credibility index and evaluate its impact on investment expectations in Colombia for the 2005-2019 period. Using monthly data on fiscal credibility, investment expectations, and a set of control variables, estimates were made using OLS and GMM methods. Robustness tests were performed using impulse-response functions. The findings reveal that fiscal credibility directly influences the investment decisions of private agents, and that local interest rates and international volatility negatively affect investors' expectations. This paper analyses the intensity of the influence of foreign direct investments, exports of goods and services, and research and development expenditure on GDP growth of developed and developing countries. Panel regression analysis determined that the exports of goods and services make the largest contribution to growth on middle levels of income. In fact, the contribution the export of goods and services makes to growth on middle levels of income is two times larger than in countries with a high GDP. The most essential impact on countries with a high GDP level was made by research and development expenditure, which is 3.5 times larger than its impact on the developing Balkan countries. The phenomenon of the Middle-Income Trap can be explained by insufficient research and development expenditure. Foreign direct investments are not statistically significant for the GDP growth of observed countries, but they achieve far better results on low development levels. The purpose of this research is to estimate the dynamic impacts of foreign direct investments (FDI) and exports on economic growth in Peru (1970–2020) using annual series. Starting with the theoretical Mundell–Fleming static model with assumptions, we find that the change in exports does not affect GDP, and the effect of FDI on GDP can be positive or negative depending on the comparison between the slopes of the IS and LM curves. The variables are foreign direct investment net flow (% of GDP), exports of goods and services (% of GDP), and GDP growth rate (%). FDI and exports constitute first-order integrated processes; meanwhile, the GDP growth rate is a stationary process. The Granger causality evidences feedback between GDP and exports and the FDI-led growth hypothesis. Considering the dependent variable GDP growth rate, the autoregressive distributed lag cointegration bound test shows the findings regarding the cointegration consist of positive long-term equilibrium impacts from exports and FDI on GDP. Estimating an error correction model, in the short-term, the FDI explains to GDP and the exports have an insignificant impact on economic growth in Peru. Previous studies have shown that pathwise outward foreign direct investment can promote the long-term economic growth of developed economies and some developing countries with sufficient technology, human capital, and financial efficiency. However, the contribution of inverse outward foreign direct investment from developing countries, especially China, on the economic growth of developed economies has not yet been demonstrated. Based on the endogenous growth theory, this article uses panel data of China's inverse outward foreign direct investment and economic growth indicators of 26 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries from 2003 to 2017 to empirically study the contribution of China's inverse outward foreign direct investment to the economic growth of developed economies and its mechanism, and furthermore to study the mediation effect of research and development capital and technological advances in the contribution. The empirical results show that China's inverse outward foreign direct investment has a significant contribution to the economic growth of developed host countries, with a contribution rate of 3.01%. The contribution rate of the mediating effect is 24.3% when only considering technological advances and 54.34% when considering the multiple mediators of research and development capital and technological advances. This paper examines the relationship between total factor productivity, trade openness, and foreign direct investment to economic growth in 90 middle-income countries from 1990 to 2020. We employ the Generalized Method of Moments with country and period fixed effects to overcome heteroscedasticity and endogeneity issues. The findings indicate a percentage increase in net FDI inflows and Trade Openness improves economic growth by 0.13% and 0.19%, respectively. However, total factor productivity negatively impacts growth due to the improper allocation of resources across sectors. Our paper contributes policy implications to develop economies sustainably. This paper aims to determine whether economic complexity influences the efficacy of inward foreign direct investment (FDI). To this end, in the context of a theoretical framework, we estimate a model that relates economic growth to the flow as well as the stock of FDI while taking into account the role of complexity of the economy (measured by the Economic Complexity Index). This index captures the capabilities that are embodied in the productive structure of the economy. Our empirical work shows that economic complexity influences the growth effect of FDI on the host countries. We find countries that rank relatively high in economic complexity benefit from FDI while countries that rank very low may be adversely affected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is aimed at examining the fact whether foreign direct investment (FDI) and exports do contribute to economic growth in the thirteen European Union (EU) new member states (namely Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia) during the period from 2005 to 2020 or not. Various statistical tests were performed in order to examine the relationship and causality among the three observed series, including unit-root tests, the Kao and Pedroni cointegration tests, and finally the modified causality test. The obtained results are mixed. Although cointegration was established between FDI, exports and growth, the estimation of the longterm coefficients varied to such an extent that only ambiguous conclusions about the effect of FDI and exports on the growth of the real gross domestic product (GDP) could be reached. The research results imply the fact that positive effects of FDI and exports are neither automatic nor equal in all the countries, but the same rather depend on the many factors and conditions that the governments of the selected states should consider when designing policy measures for attracting FDI and promoting exports. Purpose: The paper aims to examine the effects of floods on economic growth in India from 1980 to 2019, taking into account the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and foreign aid. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF) and Phillip–Perron (PP) tests to determine the stationarity of the variables. Several models, including autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL), fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS), dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) and canonical cointegration regression (CCR), are used to examine the impact of floods on economic growth. Findings: The bounds test determines the long-term relationship between floods, FDI inflows, economic growth and foreign aid. According to the ARDL and FMOLS models, floods have a negative long-term and short-term impact on India's economic growth. Furthermore, FDI inflows and foreign aid are beneficial to economic growth. The findings of the ARDL and FMOLS models are confirmed by the DOLS and CCR models. Granger causality establishes a unidirectional causality that extends from floods to economic growth. Further diagnostic tests show that the estimates are free of heteroskedasticity, serial correlation and parameter instability. Practical implications: Indian government needs to invest more in research and development on flood management techniques. Institutional strengthening is also required to implement pre- and post-flood prevention measures properly. Sound disaster financing strategy and proper water bodies management should be prioritised. Foreign investment opportunities should be encouraged by strengthening international relations. There is evidence that foreign direct investment promotes growth in developing economies. At the same time, economic development attracts FDI. Further, FDI inflows may induce investment by national investors. To analyse the effect of FDI inflows on economic growth and domestic investment in developing countries, this paper has applied the vector autoregressive model for five Asian countries -- India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand -- for the period 1980-2020. In the VAR framework, the relationship between GDP, FDI, exports, infrastructure, and population growth are estimated endogenously by taking two-period lags of each of these variables. The estimated VAR results show that there is a positive impact of FDI on growth in these economies, except Pakistan, and the infrastructure facility is an important factor for attracting FDI. This paper empirically examines how financial sector development affects the FDIeconomic growth nexus in Guyana. The novelty is that we examine the relationship in a poor, Small Island Developing State (SIDS) with an underdeveloped financial sector, and where the bulk of FDI flows to the extractive sector. Using annual data from 1981 to 2014, and, both a VECM and ARDL framework that distinguishes among long-run and short-run causal impacts, we provide new insights on why FDI may have a smaller impact on economic growth in SIDS or resource-rich countries. Specifically, we find that FDI dampens long-run growth in Guyana, which is consistent with the extractive literature, but through interaction with the financial sector, FDI has a positive offsetting effect at all levels of financial development in the period under study. While our findings have several nuanced policy implications on how to maximize the developmental potential of FDI in Guyana, they may be relevant to other SIDS or resource-rich countries. Employing an institutional – FDI – economic growth lens the purpose of this paper is to identify and explain the impacts of Chinese FDI (CFDI) on host countries' economic growth. While extensive research has been undertaken regarding determinants of CFDI, little is known about the actual outcomes of CFDI in recipient countries. Based on a sample of 22 countries over the period 2003–2018, our results identify that while general flows of FDI exhibited positive impacts on host countries' economic growth, CFDI had a negative effect on host country economic growth. From the host country perspective, given the emphasis that is placed on FDI as an instrument of growth and development, our findings raise questions about what host countries are actually gaining from CFDI and the potential implications of whether pursuing the 'Beijing Consensus' as opposed to the 'Washington Consensus' is really in the long-term interests of countries. This study examines whether institutional quality, education levels and trade openness affect the relationship between sectoral‐ and industrial‐level foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and economic growth. Previous studies highlight the heterogeneous effects of FDI at the sectoral‐ and industrial‐level suggesting the need to examine the growth effects of FDI at a disaggregated level. However, previous studies have not empirically explored the role of absorptive capacities at the industrial‐ and sectoral‐level. Consequently, using a sample of 36 Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development countries from 2000 to 2019, we examine the relationship using the system generalised method of moments estimator to control for endogeneity. Our results show that the magnitudinal effects of overall FDI is dampened as sectoral‐ and industrial‐effects are not considered. We find that both manufacturing and services FDI contributes to growth. However, the effect of manufacturing FDI is greater. Meanwhile, we find education levels to be an effective moderator for services FDI, while trade openness enhances the growth effects of manufacturing FDI more effectively. Institutional quality is shown to have a positive complementary effect across both sectors and certain industries. Policy implications are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine the moderating impact of absorptive capacity on the foreign direct investment (FDI)–growth link using the data for the period 1995–2019. Design/methodology/approach: The authors apply the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and threshold analysis for empirical analysis. Findings: The findings indicate that the link between FDI and economic growth is influenced indirectly by absorptive capacities, such as financial development, institutional quality, technological capability, and trade openness. However, while examining the linear FDI–growth nexus, the authors noticed that human capital and infrastructure did not affect the relationship; when the non-linearity in the link is considered, the authors noted that all absorptive capacities (including human capital and infrastructure), when interacted with FDI, have a positive effect on growth. Furthermore, FDI stimulates growth if the absorptive capacities have exceeded a certain threshold level. Research limitations/implications: From a practical standpoint, it is reasonable to conclude that improving absorptive capacities is critical in order to perceive FDI as a growth driver. Originality/value: India has been able to position itself as a preferred destination for FDI (when the major economies are facing a sharp decline in FDI inflows) despite the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it still suffers from low growth. Although much of the literature admits that absorptive capacity is crucial for FDI to promote growth, no study in the case of India examines FDI–growth nexus conditioned upon absorptive capacity. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is considered a massive investment that can change the economic scenario of Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to examine the contribution to the economic growth of the sectors where CPEC is investing. This research uses time-series data for 31 years to investigate the impact of macroeconomic variables like foreign direct investment (FDI), human capital investment (HCI), transport investment, and information communication technology (ICT) on the economic growth of Pakistan. The results of Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square Regression Specification (FMOLS) show a positive nexus between FDI, HCI, and economic growth while economic growth and ICT show a negative relationship. The results for the impact of transportation infrastructure on economic growth are statistically insignificant. This research suggests that an increased focus on building knowledge, expertise, and skillset of human resources will help in reaping the benefits of CPEC's investment. Future researchers can increase the period of the study to ascertain the implicit or explicit impact of CPEC on economic growth. Between 1980 and 2020, the study looks at "An Empirical Analysis of the Effects of Population Growth on Economic Growth in Ethiopia Using an Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) Model Approach." The appraisal coefficient of population growth (POP) and the implication is positive and significant, according to the findings of this study. However, in response to the long-term association between population expansion and economic growth in Ethiopia, the macroeconomic variables were subjected to a limit test and a broader causality test. From the finding of bound test, since the value of F-statics is greater than the upper boundary line, there are long run equilibrium relationships among RGDP, population size, foreign direct investment, personal remittance, population growth rate, rate of inflation, and gross capital formation. According to the findings of the Granger causality test, real gross domestic product can cause Ethiopian population size (POP), but population number (POP) cannot cause real gross domestic product at the same time. The motivation of doing this research was to know the sign and effects of population growth on economic growth. Finally, in order to boost Ethiopia's economic growth, the government should implement policies that would attract foreign investors. This research analyzed the relationship between openness to agricultural exchange, foreign direct investment, capital, consumer price index, and GDP in Pakistan utilizing time series data for the 1971-2019 period. We used autoregressive distributed lag ARDL-bound testing method to analyze the long-run and short-run correlation between projected variables. The study's findings also confirmed a positive and important long-term correlation between openness to agricultural trade, foreign direct investment and Pakistan's economic development. The need for economic development has preoccupied policymakers over the years. Especially the global south such as Nigeria, which is plagued with infrastructural deficit and less foreign direct investment and financial development attraction. This has drawn the attention of stakeholders and government officials for exploration of alternative routes for sustainable development, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals‐8 (UNSDG's). Thus, the current study focuses on the FDI‐led economic growth hypothesis if it holds or not for the case of Nigeria. The present study is distinct from previous studies in terms of scope by incorporation of more covariates, which has seemed to have been overlooked in the FDI argument. To this end, the current study re‐investigates the connection between FDI, financial development, total labour force, gross capital formation, and economic growth using Nigeria as a representation for Africa and Sub‐Saharan states specifically. Annual time‐series data from 1970 to 2018 is adopted for the econometrics analysis. Our study interest variables are foreign direct investment, economic expansion (GDP). The present study inculcates two additional financial development indicators; from the banking, and financial sectors. Using a battery of unit root and stationarity tests the study explores the stationarity properties of the outlined variables. Subsequently, the novel and recent robust Bayer and Hanck (2013) combined cointegration test in conjunction with Pesaran's ARDL bounds test was used to investigate the equilibrium relationship and regression analysis. While the Toda‐Yamamoto Granger causality was used to detect the direction of causality analysis among the variables. Empirical investigation traces a long‐run equilibrium relationship among the variables over the sampled period. Furthermore, empirical results show that FDI influences GDP, which suggests that FDI influences economic growth which is indicative of policymakers. Similarly, empirical outcomes establish a significant relationship between GDP and Financial Development from banking‐sector which is also corroborated in the causality results as an indirect causality is seen running from GCF to the financial sector. These outcomes suggest that FDI and Financial development are good predictors for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. This study investigates the impact and transmission mechanism of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on the economic growth of city clusters. Via theoretical analysis, a spatial Durbin model (SDM) and mediating effect model are applied based on panel data of the three major city clusters in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 1997 to 2018. The results reveal the following: (1) FDI inflows promote the economic growth of city clusters in the YREB, but the degrees of impacts on the three city clusters are different; (2) the spatial effects of FDI inflows differ across city clusters; the effects are negative in city clusters of the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River Middle Reaches, and positive in the Chengdu-Chongqing city cluster; (3) urbanization and industrial structure upgrading are two important mechanisms by which FDI inflows promote the economic growth of city clusters. However, there are differences among the three major city clusters; the intermediary effect of urbanization is more significant in city clusters of Chengdu-Chongqing and the Yangtze River Middle Reaches, while the intermediary effect of industrial structure upgrading is more significant in the Yangtze River Delta and Chengdu-Chongqing city clusters. The vision of every country or subregions is to achieve economic growth and sustainable economic growth. Thus, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as an economic cooperation renders interaction among 16 relevant countries to increase economic development. However, CO2 emissions as a result of economic growth are of great concern. Thus, this study delves into the determinants of CO2 emissions along the ECOWAS community, taking into consideration if countries are energy exporters or energy importers. The analytical procedure applied indicated the presence of heterogeneity in the slope coefficient and cross-sectional dependencies across the various panels. Applying the Westerlund bootstrap co-integration unveiled, the employed variables have a long-run equilibrium association. The results from the augmented mean group (AMG) revealed that the contribution weight (order of importance) to CO2 emissions varies across panel clusters. Finally, the causality results unveil a bidirectional causation in all panels between urbanization and CO2 emissions, whereas foreign direct investment and CO2 emissions have a bidirectional effect in energy importers and the main panel. These results obtained indicate that foreign direct investment, urbanization, energy consumption, trade openness, and gross domestic product are the determinants of CO2 emissions along the community. Based on the outcome, the suggested policy implications indicate that (a) the need for a paradigm shift from fossil fuel sources to renewables be encouraged in the community and (b) again, the awareness of spillover of economic growth and energy transition on CO2 emissions from foreign companies to local businesses must be promoted. The preponderance of emerging economies confronts significant trade-offs between economic growth and environmental sustainability considerations, and Turkey is no exception. This study draws strength from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs-7,11,12 & 13). To this end, the present study explores the role of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for the case of Turkey for annual frequency data from 1970 to 2020. The present study leverages on the novel dynamic autoregressive-distributed lag (DARDL) methodology and Bayer and Hanck combined cointegration test. The combined Bayer and Hanck cointegration test alongside ARDL bounds test traces equilibrium relationship between economic growth, urbanization, FDI, energy use, and CO2 emission over the investigated period. Empirical results from the DARDL simulation analysis validates the EKC hypothesis. These results suggest that environmental quality is being compromised for economic growth at the earlier stage of economic growth (scale stage). The EKC phenomenon is affirmed as a 1% increase in economic growth increase emission level by 0.1580% and quadratic economic growth decrease emission by 0.1095% in the short and long run, respectively. Similarly, urbanization and energy used in both the short and long run also worsen environmental quality while FDI influx in the long run improves environmental quality in Turkey. These outcomes have far-reaching environment-urbanization growth implications. From a policy lens, the current study subscribed to the environmental stick policies and investment on strategies on a paradigm shift from fossil-fuel energy consumption base to renewables. The rapid growth of environmental pollution and the destruction of eco-systems force every individual economy to focus on environmentally friendly economic development. This research explores economic growth, energy use, foreign direct investment, agriculture, industrialization, and urban population growth with environmental sustainability proxied as CO2 emissions from 1971 to 2018. Econometric methods are employed for different purposes as the unit root for the stationary check. ARDL determines the long-run relationship, while the Decoupling Index examines the growing speed of variables and CO2 emissions, and VECM has been used for short- and long-run causalities. The study's findings confirm the long-run impact of all environmental pollution variables as ECM-1 is negatively significant. The short-run causality test shows CO2 emissions because of economic growth (GDP = > CO2 ≠ GDP), energy use (ENU = > CO2 ≠ ENU), and foreign direct investment (FDI = > CO2 ≠ FDI) at a 1% level. In contrast, CO2 emissions are not the Granger cause of GDP, ENU, and FDI. Economic growth, energy use, and foreign direct investment will increase CO2 emission, not vice versa. The Paris Agreement has united the global nations to embark on pathways to the decarbonization of their respective economies. However, the objective of achieving low-carbon growth is not as straightforward as it seems since the rapidly emerging and fossil fuel-dependent world economies are focused on expediting economic growth at the expense of poorer environmental consequences. Against this background, this study aims to explore the effects of foreign direct investments, governance, democracy, renewable energy use, and economic growth on carbon dioxide emissions in the context of the BRICS countries over the period from 2006 to 2017. The estimation strategy involved in this study specifically accounts for addressing the issues of cross-sectional dependency and slope heterogeneity in the data set utilized for analysis. The associated findings reveal cointegrating associations between the study variables. Besides, the regression outcomes reveal that good governance (achieved by controlling corruption) and strong democracy (achieved by ensuring greater freedom for journalists) help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the long run. More importantly, the results also confirm that both good governance and stronger democracy further reduce carbon dioxide emissions by mediating between emission-inhibiting effects of foreign direct investment inflows in the BRICS countries. In addition, good governance and stronger democracy exert moderating effects to reduce the emission-stimulating impacts associated with higher economic growth. Lastly, it is also witnessed that forgoing non-renewable energy use and adopting renewable energy instead help to curb the carbon dioxide emission levels further. Accordingly, considering these key findings, it is recommended that the BRICS countries should enhance the quality of governance and democracy, attract clean foreign direct investments, promote renewable energy use, and adopt clean economic growth strategies to decarbonize their respective economy. This study aims to analyze the asymmetric long-run relationship between economic growth (EG), foreign direct investment (FDI), and carbon emissions (CO2) within the context of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and the pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) in China. Employing the quarterly data from 1982Q1 to 2018Q4, we have used novel techniques to meet the stated objectives of our study, named quantile ARDL and quantile Granger causality. The study provides novel outcomes using the advanced quantile ARDL and quantile Granger causality tests. The significant implication of this method is that it provides locational asymmetry. We find strong evidence of the EKC and PHH for China based on the empirical results of linear and nonlinear ARDL models. Similarly, findings of quantile Granger causality validate the bidirectional relationship among all variables in upper and lower quantiles. Moreover, the results of the Wald test confirm the asymmetric long-run relationship between FDI and carbon emissions (CO2). Thus, legal measures must be enhanced, accepted, rigorously imposed, and monitored in all provinces to assure a further reduction in carbon emissions. Trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) could have environmental consequences for local and neighboring economies due to their spatial linkages and could also affect the production and consumption-based emissions. Hence, we examine their direct and spillover effects on territory-based CO2 (TCO2) and consumption-based CO2 (CCO2) emissions in GCC countries using a period 1990–2019 and spatial Durbin model (SDM). The empirical results have corroborated the presence of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) in an association of economic growth and emissions in both TCO2 and CCO2 models. Hence, economic growth has a positive relationship with CO2 emissions at the first phase of the EKC and has a negative relationship with CO2 emissions at the later stage of the EKC. The spillovers of economic growth were found the opposite in the case of TCO2 and insignificant in the case of CCO2. The effect of Financial Market Development (FMD) is found negative on TCO2 emissions and insignificant on CCO2 emissions. Exports have a positive direct effect on TCO2 emissions and have negative spillovers, direct, and total effects on CCO2 emissions. The positive direct effect of exports on TCO2 reflects that exports are raising TCO2 emissions in domestic economies. On the other hand, the negative direct effect of exports on CCO2 explains that exports are helping reduce CCO2 emissions in domestic economies. Moreover, negative spillovers of exports on CCO2 indicate that increasing exports of a GCC country helps reduce CCO2 emissions in neighboring countries. In addition, the negative total effect of exports on CCO2 implies that increasing exports reduce CCO2 emissions in the whole GCC region. Imports have positive spillovers and direct effects on TCO2 and have positive spillovers effects on CCO2 emissions. FDI has negative direct and spillover effects on CCO2 and positive spillover effects on TCO2. We suggest promoting FMD, FDI, and exports to have their positive ecological effects in GCC countries. This research mainly analyzes the influence of foreign investment in the era of big data on China's economic growth, in the process of analyzing the impact of foreign investment on the national economy, based on the analysis of the current situation of foreign investment and error-correction model, etc., through the correlation coefficient matrix to determine the variables data needed to fit the model; after fitting the model, the residual model is extracted, and the stationarity of the residual sequence is tested. On the basis of the above, this paper analyzes the difference of foreign direct investment in different regions, combined with the coastal areas and central region model and actual situation analysis, analyzes the two foreign direct investment (FDI) development speeds, base development speed, and average development speed, at the same time for the two regions in 2017; the specific direction of FDI do a detailed analysis. The environmental repercussions of extensive carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on the environment are crucial for policymakers and scholars. The repercussions of and connection between economic growth (ECG), tourism (TOUR), and foreign direct investment (FDI) on CO2 emission mitigation have been measured and argued from empirical and theoretical perspectives by scholars. Notwithstanding, the extant body of knowledge has failed to incorporate and investigate the function of governance in decarbonizing tourism activities and FDI from CO2 emissions to attain a healthy and quality environment in Africa. Hence, this current research investigates governance's role in the reduction processes of CO2 emissions grounded in environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) conceptual assumptions for panel data spanning 2000 through 2020 for 27 African countries. This research utilized the Westerlund panel cointegration approach for the investigation of the cointegration of the selected variables. This study applied the Driscoll–Kraay regression approach for the long-term estimation. In addition, the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) and the pooled mean group (PMG) were used for robustness checks. The findings of this research indicated that the governance (GOV) indicators employed have a statistically significant effect on the CO2 emission reduction. Besides, this study found that the appreciation of the income of the nations gives credence to the formation of the EKC theory and contributes to the decline in CO2 emissions within the selected African nations. The findings revealed that tourism, FDI, ECG, and GOV are positive and significant factors leading to increased CO2 emissions in Africa. Furthermore, the results showed that effective governance and control of FDI inflows and tourism activities can support decarbonization. As globalization accelerates, the influence of innovative foreign capital on economic development and employment level becomes more significant. However, the impact of FDI on the standard of welfare and economic development is controversial. The demand to promote or target innovative FDI has increased as it has been seen as an innovative tool to stimulate regions' economic growth or intervene in economic structure changes by orienting it in the most favourable way for the host country. Interest in attracting foreign direct investment has increased since the 1980s as it is one of the external financing sources for both developing and developed countries. However, scientists still argue whether the impact of foreign capital on economic growth is positive or negative. Some researchers state that inward FDI is limited to a short-term positive impact. In contrast, others maintain that the performance of multinational corporations cannot harm the host country at all, and FDI only positively influences economic growth. Modern economic science questions whether it is worthwhile for the state to interfere with the market and stimulate the identified target business sectors with the help of innovative FDI policy. In this way, even significant market flaws are revealed, and some companies are doomed to fail. The benefits of FDI are obvious: the creation of new jobs, «know-how», and the tendency to increase exports. In this sense, the host country should attract specific MNCs motivated towards expanding business through research and development. The article proposes a targeted, complex, innovative FDI policy while applying the ANP method. The methods applied in this research include Analytic Networking Method based on the SWOT approach. The ANP has been chosen as a qualitative method based on the experts' opinion, allowing determining the best or several alternatives. The findings & value added of the study demonstrated that to gain a competitive advantage, Latvia should attract more innovative FDI into the service business area, followed by manufacturing. This article seeks to analyze the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and bank credit to the industrial sector as expansion factors for the productive sector in Mexico from 1995 to 2020. During this period, Mexico was transitioning from an economy with high tariff protection to an open economy, under the generally accepted theoretical postulate that financial repression impeded the free flow of investment. This scenario was unfavorable for an industry that was beginning to reconfigure itself within the framework of a secondary export model. Analysis was conducted using a Markov regime switching model and an Error Correction Vector Model (ECVM). This study was conducted to investigate the impact of foreign portfolio investment and financial openness on economic growth in low and high income countries. Time series data spanning 1970-2020 was analyzed using the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS) while other econometric techniques such as the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) and Non-Linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (NARDL) were used to enhance the robustness of study findings. Findings showed that foreign portfolio investment (FPI) had no significant relationship with economic growth in low/middle income countries while a significant positive relationship was found for high income countries. Result findings also found that financial openness (FOP) had no significant impact on the economic growth of any of the income classes. The interaction of FPI and FOP was found to be insignificant for low/middle countries while significant for high income countries. Robustness check revealed the presence of short-run asymmetric effect of FPI on economic growth in low/middle income countries while the same relationship was found between FOP and economic growth for high income countries. The study therefore concluded that foreign portfolio investment and financial openness have no joint or independent impact on economic growth in low income countries and foreign portfolio investment has a significant independent and joint impact on economic growth in high income countries. The goal of this research is to consider the influences of foreign direct investment and banking sector depth on economic growth, by analysing these factors in six Central and Eastern European countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Romania) in the period between 2000 and 2018. Cointegration among the variables was confirmed using the Westerlund panel cointegration test. The outcomes of the panel autoregressive distributed lag model confirmed the positive influence of foreign direct investment and the negative impact of the banking sector depth on the economic growth in the observed countries. The results of the short-term analysis revealed the insignificant influence of the banking sector depth and the notable positive influence of foreign direct investment on economic growth. Purpose - Tourism and FDI have contributed to a large extent to Central and Eastern European economies in recent decades. This paper investigates how successfully these two engines of growth have been stimulating the growth of these economies. Design/methodology/approach - Using a Pooled Mean Group estimation, this study investigates the short- and long-term effects of variations in the GDP shares of tourism and foreign investments on the economic growth rate. Findings - The results suggest that while tourism expansion is more effective in the short run, FDI has a significant positive impact on economic growth only in the long run. Originality - A new aspect of the present study is a comparison of the magnitude of the impacts of the GDP shares of international tourism and foreign investments on the economic growth rate in both the short and long run in the case of Central and Eastern Europe. Given the openness of most national economies, ensuring sustainable economic growth, trends of linearization, transnationalization, there has been a significant increase in foreign direct investment. Foreign direct investments (FDI) is a key component of economic growth and development, as the essence of economic growth is the rapid and efficient transfer of “best practices”. In addition to direct capital investing, FDI can be a source of the valuable transfer of technology and exchange, know-how, and foster international connections of companies that have an impact on economy. In addition, it should be noted that FDI have potentially desirable features that affect the quality of growth with significant social consequences. This can decrease negative shocks caused by financial instability. FDI generate income directed to support other economies. The volumes of foreign direct investments are growing under the influence of globalization, the intensification of existing ties creating problems and threats to secure the national economic development, and in today’s sustainable and inclusive (integral) growth. The evolution of the world economy has strongly influenced the dynamics of foreign direct investments and foreign capital flows, as well as economies of host countries. Current trends of the impact of foreign direct investments on economic growth have not bypassed economy of Ukraine, which is in a transitional stage of its development and is a host country.
