This study explores how foreign direct investment (FDI), material footprint, economic growth, and information and communication technology (ICT) influence the load capacity factor (LCF) in 37 Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. The analysis leverages data spanning 1970 to 2019 and employs a range of robust econometric techniques (FM-OLS, D-OLS, DSUR). The findings reveal a surprising yet significant positive association between material footprint and LCF. Conversely, economic growth, FDI, and ICT all exhibit negative relationships with LCF. Interestingly, a causal analysis suggests that these variables-ICT, material footprint, and economic growth-have a two-way influence on LCF, meaning they both affect and are affected by it. These insights highlight the complex interplay between economic development, material footprint, and technological advancement in shaping SSA's LCF. Understanding information and communication technology (ICT) adoption's particular effects on a nation like Bangladesh is critical because ICT adoption continues to play a significant role in promoting economic progress globally. By analysing the relationships between ICT use and economic growth in Bangladesh, this study examines data from 2002 through 2021 using a time series analysis. ICT export, gross capital formation, mobile cellular subscriptions, government budget allocation, and foreign direct investment are just a few of the independent variables the study takes into account in relation to ICT adoption. These factors were selected based on their applicability to the adoption of ICT and their potential impact on economic expansion. According to the results of the time series research, the ICT sector's growing exports have a favourable and considerable impact on long-term economic growth. Mobile cellular subscriptions negatively affect economic growth, with significant short-term impact and insignificant long-term effect. The influence of the government budget is detrimental but insignificant for both long-term and short-term economic growth. The study comes to the conclusion that Bangladesh's economic development is significantly benefited by the adoption of ICT. The study also highlights the significance of government assistance through budgetary allocation and strategies that draw in foreign direct investment. The theoretical literature on the FDI-growth relationship suggests that FDI with high technological content might play a peculiar role. To investigate the existence and magnitude of this peculiar effect, we collected data for 28 countries over the period 1989 to 2019 and used GMM techniques for empirical estimation. We employed the U.N. International Standard Classification (ISIC) Revision 3 to classify FDI data and follow the criteria laid down by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to distinguish FDI data by technological content. The empirical findings of this article confirm that technology plays an important role in determining the FDI-Growth relationship. Interestingly, the empirical evidence supports a U-shaped relationship between FDI and economic growth when FDI is disaggregated by different technological contents. More specifically, we find strong evidence that in the manufacturing sector, FDI with a higher technological content exhibits a positive association with growth in the host country. We also find evidence pointing towards a positive relationship between FDI and growth in the host country at the other end of the technology spectrum (low-tech). In the context of globalization, the 2030 sustainable development goals pose a huge challenge to the coordinated development of economy and environment in emerging economies. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether globalization contributes to balance water consumption and economic growth in emerging economies. China is the largest developing country and the largest trader of goods in the world. From holistic and representative perspectives, this article analyzes the mechanisms affecting economic growth and water consumption in BRICS countries, Next Eleven (N11) countries and China. Combining decoupling model and econometric models, fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) linear model and threshold panel nonlinear model are constructed. Both linear and nonlinear effects of trade and foreign investment on economic growth and water consumption are considered. The results show that, from a holistic perspective, globalization helps balance economic growth and water consumption in emerging economies. The impact of trade on water consumption in BRICS countries is negative. And with the increase of trade, its positive coefficient on water consumption in N11 countries gradually decreases. Foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a positive role in the coordinated development of economic growth and water environment in BRICS and N11 countries. Taking China as a representative country, there is a decoupling phenomenon between economic growth and water use during the study period. With the trade crossing the threshold successively, the promoting effect on economy increases first and then decreases, and the inhibiting effect on water consumption weakens. With the increase of foreign investment, its positive effect on GDP increases, and its positive coefficient on water consumption decreases. The link between FDIs and economic growth has been analysed in order to examine the performance of FDIs in the Indian economy. FDI Equity Inflows and GDP are used as proxy for India's foreign direct investment and economic development. In order to examine the connection between FDI and GDP between 1991-92 and 2016-17, is both short-term and long-term. This article provides a critical review of the relationship between the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), financial development, and economic growth. The study finds that environmental performance and sustainability are important for economic growth in industrialized countries, while sustainable financial systems and renewable energy can promote economic growth in developing nations. Government policies such as carbon costs and taxes, technology transfer programs, and green trade policies are crucial for sustainable economic growth. Trade globalization contributes to global economic growth and reduces poverty levels, but policymakers should prioritize environmental performance and sustainability in their economic policies. It is important to consider CO2 emissions and energy consumption when addressing climate change. Developing countries may face technological limitations when transitioning to renewable energy sources. The relationship between environmental performance, financial development, and economic growth in developing countries is complex and varies depending on the specific country and time frame. Policymakers should prioritize settling carbon costs and taxes, commercializing low-CO2 emissions technologies, reducing subsidies for nonrenewable energy, providing technology transfer programs, and creating a green trade policy to achieve sustainable development. Renewable energy and energy efficiency can support sustainable economic development and reduce CO2 emissions in developing countries, but effective policies and investments in green technology are needed to balance economic and environmental sustainability goals. For the purpose of this paper, we examine the association between foreign direct investment, openness to trade, infrastructure, innovation, and economic development in 10 members of the Commonwealth Independent States between 2000 and 2020 using a panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag model. According to the results, none of the elements that are researched for this paper has a statistically significant influence on economic growth over the short term. On the other hand, in the long run, each of the variables, including foreign direct investment, infrastructure, innovation, and trade openness, has a statistically favorable and substantial impact on economic growth; furthermore, the findings are in line with the findings of the baseline static panel data models. Objective: The objective of this paper was to analyze the bidirectional relationship between financial development and economic growth for a dataset of Latin American and Asian developing countries between 2001 and 2019. Method: This research employed an empirical approach to analyze the statistical relationship between financial development and economic growth, by presenting an estimation of a system of simultaneous equations for a panel of Asian and Latin American countries using 3SLS. Main Results: The results presented in this research provided evidence that financial development does not appear to have a significant impact on economic growth, although growth appears to have a significant and positive influence on financial development. Moreover, the results also suggested that regulatory quality and domestic credit directed to the private sector have a positive effect on economic growth, while urbanization and education showed a negative influence on growth. The estimated model also indicated that urbanization has a positive influence on financial development while foreign direct investment presented a negative effect on the development of the financial sector. Relevance / Originality: Most of the research agenda on the topic of finance and growth has focused on identifying correlation or causality between these variables, with little attention given to the simultaneous relationship between them. This is still a clear gap in economic literature. Following this premise, the objective of this paper was to analyze the bidirectional relationship between financial development and growth by estimating a system of simultaneous equations using the Zellner and Theil’s (1962) 3SLS methodology. In this sense, the main contribution will be given empirically, based on data and analysis from emerging countries in Latin America and Asia. The fact that financial development has an influence on growth and growth plays a role on the development of the financial sector indicates a simultaneous relationship between these variables. Another relevant contribution is to update the debate on financial systems and economic development for emerging countries, highlighting institutional aspects and financial cycles. The low level of domestic capital formation experienced in most developing economies coupled with the desire for sustainable economic growth has necessitated the need to seek assistance in the form of foreign direct investment (FDI) to bridge the savings-investment gap. This study, therefore, examined the impact of FDI and domestic capital formation on the economic growth of Nigeria. Data were sourced from CBN statistical bulletin from 1986-2021 using Autoregressive distributed lag coupled with Granger causality tests. The result showed that domestic capital formation has an insignificant positive impact on economic growth while FDI revealed an insignificant negative relationship. Exchange rate, interest rate, and inflation rate showed an insignificant negative relationship with the economic growth of Nigeria. It was therefore recommended that governments at various levels should create an enabling environment conducive to domestic capital formation and investment process bearing in mind the stability of macroeconomic variables in the country. The decoupling of carbon emissions has also become the dependence of countries' development. Finance plays an important role in decoupling economic development from carbon emissions. This paper explores the impact of financial development in different regions on the decoupling of carbon emissions from economic growth, using the Tapio decoupling elastic model and the method of fully modified least squares (FMOLS) to study the impact of financial development on carbon emissions in six regional panels from 1995 to 2020: and Foreign direct investment (FDI), urbanization, population, and infrastructure as control variables. The results turn out that financial development will promote the decoupling of carbon emissions from economic growth in the ECA region. For EAP, SSA, AC, SA, and MENA regions, financial development will promote the growth of carbon emissions, and due to the different economic development dynamics of different countries, the positive effects of financial development on carbon emissions are heterogeneous. The impact of FDI, urbanization, and infrastructure on carbon emissions varies from region to region. The population will promote the growth of carbon emissions, regardless of the region. In addition, the ECA region is the most countries that has achieved the strong decoupling and is the first to realize the transition from weak decoupling to strong decoupling. Therefore,the ECA, EAP and AC region should accelerate the construction of a green financial system to promote the decoupling of economic growth and carbon emissions. The production and export of high-tech products have strategic importance for countries. The technological content of the exported products is an indicator of countries technology level. Therefore, it is important the relationship between high- tech product exports and economic growth among studies based on export-oriented growth strategy. The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of high-tech products exports on economic growth in the member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the period of 2008-2020 with panel data analysis method. In this context, different independent variables were included in the analysis and economic growth was determined as the dependent variable and the Panel ARDL/PMG (Pooled Average Group) method was applied. The relationship between economic growth, high-tech products export, research and development expenditures and foreign direct investments in 26 selected OECD member countries has been analysed. According to this study, it has been concluded that the variable of high-tech products export is statistically significant and this variable positively effects economic growth in the short term and long term. Foreign direct investment (FDI) currently plays a relevant role in the world economy. During the last decades, several authors have been concerned about the relationship between foreign direct investment and the economic growth of a country. This work aims to identify if there is a correlation among these economic indicators, using China as study country. In order to meet this objective, a characterization of FDI is carried out in the selected country, with emphasis in its dissimilar contributions, and the determinants and incentives for investment. This work covers data fundamentally until 2019, in the context of pre-pandemic COVID-19. This paper examines the role of Japanese direct investment in ASEAN and how that is associated with the growth of trade between these economic giants. ASEAN or Association of Southeast Asian Nations economies developed rapidly since the 1980s primarily due to the heavy inflows of foreign direct investments (FDIs). With the introduction of export-oriented industries (EOI), which was the Association's main development strategy in the late 1960s, the economies began punching above their weight globally in terms of their exports and FDI inflows. The region has been a leading destination of multinational enterprises for at least three decades. The main driver of growth and expansion of EOI industries and trade is the heavy inflow of Japanese FDI. However, the emergence of China as an economic powerhouse has affected the inflow of FDI into ASEAN as its traditional investors have begun to look to the former. This research aims to identify the impact of agriculture, forest and fishing value-added on international business, capital flow, and economic growth for India from 2000 to 2022, by examining short-term and long-term equilibrium using the Auto Regressive Distributive lag (ARDL) approach. Agriculture value added is taken as a dependent variable, and inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), stock of net FDI, economic growth and trade openness are taken as independent variables. Results indicate that there exists a long-term and short-term relationship between agriculture value added, economic growth and trade openness. Economic growth and trade openness have a statistically significant relationship with agricultural value added in the short and long run. Inward FDI and stock of FDI are not significant to agriculture value added. ARDL Bound test results indicate that there is a long-term cointegrating relation among the variables. The error correction term is also strong and significant (−13.96), suggesting resistance to shocks. Existing literatures coverage on agriculture and international business is scarce in the Indian context, and this research will be significant in that line. The results of this study resonate with the findings of a few studies conducted in other geographical areas, indicating the fact that the receptivity and absorptive capacity prevailing in an economy play a dominant role in receiving maximum benefits from inward capital flow leading to economic growth. This research reinstates that agriculture still influences economic growth in India. Openness is essential for creating a conducive atmosphere for economic development. Post-war countries need to achieve economic recovery and reduce the risk of future escalation. We focus on the economic recovery and investigate the role of the sector. We specifically examine the impact of financial development on post-war economic growth using Pooled OLS and multiplicative dummy variable regression technique based on a panel dataset of eight recent war-torn countries in the same era from 1970 to 2007 obtained from world bank data base. Our results show that financial development significantly and positively affects postwar economic growth, and this effect is greater than the effect during per-war and war periods. We also confirmed that other control variables such as trade openness are the only variable that drives economic growth negatively in both post war, war, and prewar periods. The lending interest rate affects postwar and war period economic growth negatively. The central government debt drives post and prewar economic growth negatively. The official exchange rate, and domestic savings rates show a positive significant impact on the economic growth of post war and war periods, respectively. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is one of the instruments that plays an important role in the economic development and economic growth of countries. Apart from the physical capital and competitiveness they add to the countries, they are structures that contain many advantages such as employment, technology, management and the concept of supervision. They include a commitment to a long-term business effort in a foreign country. Therefore, where they prefer as a location depends on many criteria. This study focuses on measuring the performance of selected G-20 countries in terms of inward FDI flows. In this context, the factors affecting inward FDI flows in countries were compiled using literature and investment reports, and the collected data were evaluated by applying the COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment) method. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the factors that will influence the economic growth. Factors that have impeded investment and economic development in these nations include political unrest, weak institutions, and restricted access to credit and finance. (OECD 2021). The region's current socio-economic conditions provide an impetus for Balkancountries governments to induce more foreign investment as a mechanism for fostering economic growth FDI promotes economic growth in both the host country and the country of origin. The host country benefits from FDI by financing projects planned, developing new technologies and generating new jobs. Investing companies benefit from the expansion of markets and, consequently, the growth of their shares in international markets. The world is full of development opportunities, be it for countries that have just begun to modernise to the richest countries. Overall, the region's economic growth and development still have a lot of room for improvement, even though some Balkan nations have made strides in recent years. Higher rates of economic growth and development in the Balkans may be facilitated by policies aimed at enhancing political stability, bolstering institutions, decreasing corruption, encouraging investment, and expanding access to finance. This study investigates the impact of financial development, economic growth, and foreign direct investment on enhancing industrial growth for a panel of selected Sub-Sahara African (SSA) countries from 1990—2017. However, the present study enriches our understanding of financial development by employing a new comprehensive index focused on the accessibility, scope, and productivity of capital systems and banking institutions and incorporated foreign direct investment and economic growth as significant industrial growth drivers in the selected countries. A more robust technique Augmented Mean Group (AMG) and Common Correlated Effect Mean Group (CCEMG), were employed to access the long-run relationship among the understudy variables. Further empirical results shows that financial development and economic growth enhance industrial development with finance exhibiting signifcance while foreign direct investment is seen as adverse. Moreover, a two-way causality was obtained between industrialization and financial development while both foreign direct investment and economic growth had a one-way causality relationship with industrialization. Thus, our study implies that the government officials within these countries must provide a suitable environment for the public, private partnerships, i.e. private sector, which is the backbone for industrial development. To investigate the effects of the European Union's (EU) member nations' shared sovereignty on economic growth. The member nations have lost substantial political and economic independence (sovereignty) and democracy. Therefore, their governments cannot facilitate rapid economic growth in their countries, affecting the EU as a whole. Data from the World Bank, institutional research entities, and the EU were utilized. The dependent variable is economic growth, and the independent and moderating variables are mainly institutions and the European Sovereignty Index. Shared sovereignty and its specific categories and foreign direct investment (FDI) outflows negatively impact economic development in the EU. Shared sovereignty negatively moderates the relationship between political rights and economic development and between FDI outflows and economic development. Democracy in member nations is formal rather than real. The present study focused on the EU's problems rather than its achievements and empirically investigated the direct and moderating effects of national sovereignty and member-country institutions on member-country economic growth. This focus and the nature of the investigation constitute the originality of the present study and reduce the gap in the literature about the effects of sovereignty, institutions, and capital spillovers (FDI outflows) on economic growth in Europe. Bangladesh's economy has flourished a great deal during recent years, establishing itself as an enthralling market. This country's remarkable growth trajectory can be attributed to technological innovation, foreign direct investment, trade and human capital, all of which have significant impacts on its economic growth. Bangladesh's economic development has been poorly explored in previous studies due to the lack of integration between these dynamics. Does the question arise whether this growth factors have a symmetrical or non-symmetrical effect on Bangladesh's economic growth and policymaking? We conducted this study with the primary objective of evaluating how technological innovation, foreign direct investment, trade, and human capital affect Bangladesh's economic development. Based on time series data years spanning 1990 to 2020, this study used the dynamic ARDL simulation method to accomplish its objective. This novel approach allows users to examine possible counterfactual changes in variables based on the ceteris paribus theory, as well as to test cointegration, long- and short-run symmetric associations between variables. Research findings indicate that technological innovation and human capital have a long-run symmetric relationship with Bangladesh's economic development. There is a significant correlation found between economic growth and all variables in the short run. To further check the robustness of the study we employed the nonlinear ARDL approach. Therefore, this study can undoubtedly be used by policymakers and the government as a basis for prioritizing and encouraging critical policy changes that will improve Bangladesh's economic development. Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) by exploring the role of various economic factors including economic development, foreign investment, human capital, energy dependency, financial development (FD), etc., in CO2 emissions. Design/methodology/approach: For empirical analysis, the samples for the years 2001–2019 of six GCC region countries that apply the fully modified ordinary least squares model were utilized. Findings: The statistical results show that economic development, foreign investment, energy dependency, human capital and oil rents have a direct impact on CO2 emissions, whereas trade liberalization and FD have an indirect impact. Nonetheless, the empirical analysis rejects the EKC hypothesis in the set of GCC region countries. The empirical findings in connection to the basic premises of the EKC model are found to be statistically constant for the linear relationship. The GCC region is rigid regarding CO2 emission because of its reliance on main energy sources like oil and gas. Research limitations/implications: The current analysis directs the policy recommendations about environmental sustainability to environmental economists and other policymakers. The development of such policy instruments as the adoption of contemporary technology and reduced reliance on fossil fuels is advised to mitigate the negative externalities of multiple economic factors. Similarly, future studies should focus on trade liberalization and FD, both of which have a declining trend in CO2 emissions. Globally and in Vietnam, the short- and long-term impacts of public investment on economic development continue to be fiercely debated. This study employs an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to analyze the effect of public investment on Vietnam's economic development over the years 1995 to 2019 in order to augment empirical evidence on this topic. According to the empirical results, increasing public, private, and foreign investment all have a long-term positive influence on economic development. However, the short-term effect of public investment has not been confirmed. Furthermore, the effect of public investment on economic growth is less than that of private investment. The economies of the Western Balkan countries (Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina) rely heavily on diaspora remittances. The purpose of this paper is to estimate that remittances constitute an important source of income, financing aggregate demand and household. In this paper, an empirical econometric model was developed to assess the impact of remittances on nominal and real nominal growth for PB countries for the period 2010 - 2021. The empirical methodology is applied based on SPSS cointegration analysis: As a linear regression analysis (enter method), multiple regression analysis, reliability analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, factorial analysis and Kruskall Wallis model. Based on the empirical results obtained from this paper, it was found that the impact of remittances is positive in the economic growth in the Western Balkan region during the research period, while from the analysis of statistical differences, statistically significant differences were found in five countries of this region. Direct foreign investments also have a positive impact on economic growth from controlling variables. It is recommended to form a trust fund so that remittances from the diaspora can be collected and invested in capital projects such as the opening of manufacturing plants, investments in securities, and international stock markets, i.e. the relationship with the diaspora should change from a relationship of solidarity to a relationship of the market economy, where immigrants will invest their funds. Scholars and practitioners are torn between diverging viewpoints on the contribution of foreign assistance and foreign direct investment to the economic development, economic growth, and prosperity of Africa. This paper aims to examine the long-term and causal relationship between foreign direct investment, official development assistance, and economic growth for 20 selected African countries from 2000–2018. Autoregressive distributed lags and the error correction model were used as the primary estimation techniques. The results indicated a notable positive long-term cointegrating relationship between official development assistance and economic growth, and between economic growth and foreign direct investment, as well as a cointegrating link between foreign direct investment and official development assistance. Economic growth was found to promote official development assistance, while foreign direct investment was found to encourage economic growth and official development assistance was found to promote economic growth in the long run. Since foreign direct investment and official development assistance are important to economic growth in a spiral effect, African countries are encouraged to put in place policies that attract foreign direct investment and official development assistance. Thus, African countries should align their foreign and domestic investment and official development aid policies with their national developmental goals to attract foreign donations and investments. Thailand has been productive in attracting FDI flows since the beginning of economic development in 1986. It is to continue to increase inward FDI, thus the objective of this research is to investigate the inward FDI on economic growth in Thailand. The main question is what determinants attract, promote, and sustain the inward FDI in Thailand. In addition, this research also adapts the concept of the eclectic paradigm to establish the research framework. The 22 independent variables which are grouped into 4 factors such as human capital, economic, infrastructure, and policy and related factors. The correlation result shows the positive relative strength and direction of a linear relationship among independent variables at the 1% level of significance. A total data collection between 1981 and 2021 were collected various sources such as worldbank, board of investment of Thailand, stock exchange of Thailand, bank of Thailand, International Monetary Fund, UNCTAD, and office of national economic and social development board. The results show 11 variables are positive and significant, but 2 variables are negative and significant. This paper analyses the intensity of the influence of foreign direct investments, exports of goods and services, and research and development expenditure on GDP growth of developed and developing countries. Panel regression analysis determined that the exports of goods and services make the largest contribution to growth on middle levels of income. In fact, the contribution the export of goods and services makes to growth on middle levels of income is two times larger than in countries with a high GDP. The most essential impact on countries with a high GDP level was made by research and development expenditure, which is 3.5 times larger than its impact on the developing Balkan countries. The phenomenon of the Middle-Income Trap can be explained by insufficient research and development expenditure. Foreign direct investments are not statistically significant for the GDP growth of observed countries, but they achieve far better results on low development levels. There is evidence that foreign direct investment promotes growth in developing economies. At the same time, economic development attracts FDI. Further, FDI inflows may induce investment by national investors. To analyse the effect of FDI inflows on economic growth and domestic investment in developing countries, this paper has applied the vector autoregressive model for five Asian countries -- India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand -- for the period 1980-2020. In the VAR framework, the relationship between GDP, FDI, exports, infrastructure, and population growth are estimated endogenously by taking two-period lags of each of these variables. The estimated VAR results show that there is a positive impact of FDI on growth in these economies, except Pakistan, and the infrastructure facility is an important factor for attracting FDI. The impact of FDI inflows on domestic investment in India is significantly positive, with a more-than-two-fold increase in investment by the national investors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines whether institutional quality, education levels and trade openness affect the relationship between sectoral‐ and industrial‐level foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and economic growth. Previous studies highlight the heterogeneous effects of FDI at the sectoral‐ and industrial‐level suggesting the need to examine the growth effects of FDI at a disaggregated level. However, previous studies have not empirically explored the role of absorptive capacities at the industrial‐ and sectoral‐level. Consequently, using a sample of 36 Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development countries from 2000 to 2019, we examine the relationship using the system generalised method of moments estimator to control for endogeneity. Our results show that the magnitudinal effects of overall FDI is dampened as sectoral‐ and industrial‐effects are not considered. We find that both manufacturing and services FDI contributes to growth. However, the effect of manufacturing FDI is greater. Meanwhile, we find education levels to be an effective moderator for services FDI, while trade openness enhances the growth effects of manufacturing FDI more effectively. Institutional quality is shown to have a positive complementary effect across both sectors and certain industries. Policy implications are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The need for economic development has preoccupied policymakers over the years. Especially the global south such as Nigeria, which is plagued with infrastructural deficit and less foreign direct investment and financial development attraction. This has drawn the attention of stakeholders and government officials for exploration of alternative routes for sustainable development, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals‐8 (UNSDG's). Thus, the current study focuses on the FDI‐led economic growth hypothesis if it holds or not for the case of Nigeria. The present study is distinct from previous studies in terms of scope by incorporation of more covariates, which has seemed to have been overlooked in the FDI argument. To this end, the current study re‐investigates the connection between FDI, financial development, total labour force, gross capital formation, and economic growth using Nigeria as a representation for Africa and Sub‐Saharan states specifically. Annual time‐series data from 1970 to 2018 is adopted for the econometrics analysis. Our study interest variables are foreign direct investment, economic expansion (GDP). The present study inculcates two additional financial development indicators; from the banking, and financial sectors. Using a battery of unit root and stationarity tests the study explores the stationarity properties of the outlined variables. Subsequently, the novel and recent robust Bayer and Hanck (2013) combined cointegration test in conjunction with Pesaran's ARDL bounds test was used to investigate the equilibrium relationship and regression analysis. While the Toda‐Yamamoto Granger causality was used to detect the direction of causality analysis among the variables. Empirical investigation traces a long‐run equilibrium relationship among the variables over the sampled period. Furthermore, empirical results show that FDI influences GDP, which suggests that FDI influences economic growth which is indicative of policymakers. Similarly, empirical outcomes establish a significant relationship between GDP and Financial Development from banking‐sector which is also corroborated in the causality results as an indirect causality is seen running from GCF to the financial sector. These outcomes suggest that FDI and Financial development are good predictors for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. The article focuses on investments as a tool for solving economic development problems of the national economy. Based on the analysis of macroeconomic systems' development factors, it is concluded that it is necessary to accelerate economic development to ensure national competitiveness within the current global economy. The necessity of forming the organizational mechanism for the country's economic growth at a transitional stage of development is substantiated. The analysis of foreign investments in Ukraine is carried out. The paper defines the key points, tools, and measures for forming the corresponding mechanism on the example of Ukraine as an economic system in the transitional stage of development. The organizational scheme for economic growth by executive authorities is proposed. One of the critical roles in this mechanism is assigned to the Investment Department and Independent National Science Council; tasks and functions of these units in the structure of the agency are described. Foreign direct investment (FDI) holds a substantial and rapidly growing presence across every region of the world. However, our understanding of how foreign capital impacts economic growth in receiving and investing countries remains in question, despite nearly five decades of research. Our study contributes to this long-standing debate by (1) applying social network analysis to the FDI-growth literature, (2) utilizing recently available bilateral data for a global sample of countries during the post-2000 period, and (3) examining the impact of both inward and outward foreign capital on economic growth. While conventional measures of FDI typically focus on investment volume, we argue that the network structure of investment relations may be equally—or more—important. We construct a global network of FDI during the 2001–2017 period, bringing together two data sets: (1) the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development's Bilateral FDI Statistics, and (2) the International Monetary Fund's Coordinated Direct Investment Survey. We then calculate network centrality scores that reflect each country's level of inward and outward embeddedness in the global FDI network. Drawing from a sample of 1,467 observations across 137 countries during the 2001–2017 period, we estimate two-way fixed effects models to examine the effect of FDI centrality on economic growth. Net of other predictors, we find that inward and outward centrality are positively—and independently—associated with growth, while more conventional measures of foreign capital display weaker and inconsistent effects. Foreign direct investment (FDI) and tourism are listed as essential components of economic growth in many countries. However, empirical evidence remains controversial and ambiguous. This paper investigates the long-run effects of international tourism and FDI inflows on the rate of economic growth in Spain as an economy with a great GDP share of tourism and FDI. By employing a non-linear ARDL analysis, this study suggests that although international tourism development improves the economic growth rate, it might be wishful thinking to improve this rate by increasing the current rate of FDI in this country if the quality of FDI and its rate of return is as low as in the past. Despite high economic growth rates experienced recently, socio-economic challenges such as poverty still prevail in Tanzania. This has been attributed to unsuccessful economic transformation where labour has moved out of agriculture into mainly relative less productive services and informal sectors, leapfrogging the highly productive manufacturing sector. The government is targeting the expansion of agro-processing activities for economic transformation and four policy options were explored. Results of a computable general equilibrium model indicated that policies such as (1) attracting foreign direct investment to improve productivity should be encouraged, especially if (2) coupled with export strategies. (3) Agricultural expansion is also crucial to expand the input base for agro-processing activities. (4) Non-targeted policies such as improving education may not be sufficient for the sector's expansion but are crucial for the expansion of the whole economy. This study aims to reinvestigate the long run relationship between credit market development and economic growth in Nigeria covering the years between 1981 and 2016 by applying recently developed econometric techniques. In addition to measures of credit market development indicators of domestic credit to the private sector and broad money, trade openness, foreign direct investment and urbanization are also included in estimations to overcome the omitted variable problem. The measure for economic growth used is real gross domestic product. To the best of our knowledge, no study has been conducted before, examining these relationships with all these listed indicators. Therefore, this study proposes to close this gap in the literature. To capture the long run effects, we used ARDL, Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares, and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares estimator approaches. Findings uncover that (a) a long run equilibrium relationship exists between credit market development and economic growth, (b) economic policy makers are required to seek after developing the credit market with the main intention of guaranteeing that banks and other money related establishments are enabled and empowered to give the essential funds to the beneficial part of the economy which are urban and private sectors. Purpose: Drawing on institutional theory and knowledge spillover, the study aims to examine whether there is a causality relationship between macroeconomic factors and research productivity. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses fixed-effects (FE) panel regression analysis, utilizing 1,614 country–year observations and 541,732 citable publications between 1996 and 2017, to explore the relationship between macroeconomic factors, research and development (R&D) expenditure and research productivity in economics and finance. Findings: The results highlight a two-way relationship between R&D expenditure and economic development and research productivity. However, research productivity has no relationship with foreign direct investment (FDI), trade and financial development. In terms of remaining macroeconomic factors, financial development, trade and FDI have insignificant associations with research productivity in both directions of causality. In line with institutional theory, the findings support the notion that economically more developed countries and countries dedicating greater R&D funds have more potential to support research activities. On the other hand, in line with knowledge spillover, the research output of nations contributes to the economic development and expansion of R&D budgets. The results are robust to alternative methodology, endogeneity concerns, additional control variables, alternative sampling and alternative research productivity proxy. Research limitations/implications: The study suggests practical implications for nations to formulate macro-policies and a better research environment for academicians and to establish links between academic research and macroeconomic factors. Originality/value: First, as there is limited research focusing on the bidirectional causality between the macroeconomic environment and academic research activity, the study adds to the understanding of the causality relationship between these two constructs. Second, it examines the bidirectional relationship between macroeconomic factors and research output at a global scale, while prior studies mostly focus on a single country, or a certain region or continent. Foreign direct investments present one of the very important products of globalization, by establishing a new economic concept of free international movement of capital, people, goods and services. An analyses of the impact of this type of international movement of capital on economic growth and development is one of the modern tendencies of economic researchers. The subject of this paper is the analysis of the impact of the level and structure of foreign direct investment on the economic development of the Serbian economy, where the impact of foreign direct investment inflow on economic growth, current balance, manufacturing industry through the impact on total industry turnover, employment and productivity will be separately considered. The aim of this research is to prove the importance of FDI for developing countries, as well as to point out the need to improve and enhance the business environment in order to maximize FDI inflows. The main hypothesis of this research is that foreign direct investments significantly contribute to the economic growth and development of the Republic of Serbia. For the purposes of hypothesis analysis and testing, a simple linear regression model was used in this paper. The research was conducted for the period from 2010 to 2019. The foreign and domestic investments have a significant contribution towards economic development for developing and developed economies especially for underdeveloped economies. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the causal connection between domestic and foreign private investment along with its impact on economic growth of Pakistan. Moreover, time-series data has been used from 1980 to 2017 and autoregressive distributed lags (ARDL) method is implied for the data analysis perspective. The long-run findings indicate that foreign private investment has a negative and insignificant impact on economic growth, whereas, domestic investment shows a statistical significance but positive impact on Pakistan economy. The short-run dynamic designates that both domestic and foreign private investment is significantly and positively associated with the growth rate. Whereas, error correction term (ECT) is correcting the disequilibrium of data 42.7% on annual basis. Finally, F-test shows that the overall model of this study is statistically significant. The attempt of ensuring that economic growth is becoming greener with additional efficient use of natural capital which is captured in green growth has gained the interest of researchers, but studies in this regard on MENAT countries are scant. Thus, this study attempted to model the determinant factors of green growth in the MENAT countries using data from 1990 to 2019 and employed the Westerlund and Edgerton (2008) panel cointegration test to examine the cointegration among the variables of interest, and employed DCCE-MG technique to establish the significance of the determinant factors, while FMOLS and DOLS were utilized for robustness check. The result from the panel cointegration test revealed an existence of cointegration relationship between the variables in cases of “cross-sectional dependency” and structural breaks, which suggests that the variables move together in the long-run. Moreover, the findings from DCCE-MG estimates revealed that foreign direct investment, economic growth, renewable energy and institutional quality drives sustainable green growth in the MENAT countries, while population was found to exert negative impact on sustainable green growth. The study provides some information that will assist the policymakers in the MENAT countries to balance sustainable green growth, economic growth, internationalization, institutional quality, environmental cost, and population. The study followed up on the observations made by Bara et al., (2016) who observed that there was a deficit in analyzing the growth-finance nexus using data from SADC countries. The purpose of the study was therefore to ascertain the impact of foreign direct investment on economic growth through the domestic financial market channel of SADC countries. A sample of countries from the SADC region was employed with the data ranging from 1980 to 2018. The data was obtained from the IMF and the World Bank's World Development Indicator data base. The regressors used in the study include foreign direct investment, financial sector development, interaction of financial development and foreign direct investment, trade openness, gross capital formation, inflation and government expenditure. Fixed Effects panel regression was used after the Hausman Test revealed that the FEM was the most appropriate model. The outcome of the study revealed that FDI does not have a statistically significant impact on GDP without the interaction with financial sector development. However, the effects were amplified when financial sector development is introduced in the model. With the presence of financial sector development, FDI had a positive and statistically significant impact on GDP and at the same time financial sector development had a positive impact on GDP. Recommendations emanating from the study encourage monetary authorities to strengthen their financial services sector so as to fully benefit from FDI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study is to investigate the possible effects of foreign investments (foreign direct investment and foreign portfolio investments) and financial development on economic growth. For study, data from 133 countries between 1990 and 2017 were investigated using the system generalized moments method and multiple mediator analysis. In the study, it was determined that foreign direct investment (FDI), foreign portfolio investments (FPI) and financial development increase economic growth. In addition, while FDIs entering the country are found to increase economic growth indirectly by affecting financial markets and domestic investments, FPIs only support economic growth through financial markets. In addition to these results, another striking result is the existence of the threshold effect of the financial development level in the country on the effect of FDI and FPI on economic growth. In other words, after the financial development level in the country exceeds a certain level, the positive effect of foreign investment (FDI and FPI) on economic growth will disappear. Another important result is related to the level of financial development in the country. It was determined that financial development has a non-linear "inverse-U" effect on economic growth. Financial development has a positive effect on growth up to a certain level. After exceeding this level, the increase in financial development has a negative effect on growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Capital stock is possessing pivotal importance in stimulating the economic growth and development of any country. Inward FDI is considered as one of the important catalysts of economic development particularly for the resource and capital poor countries. In this article we have examined the relationship between inward FDI and economic growth in case of one of the emerging economies of Latin America i.e., Brazil. We took annual time series data for the dependent and independent variables like inward FDI, per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment, capital formation, and exports for the period ranging from 1996 to 2019. We ran Ordinary Least Square Regression and Random Effect Regression Analysis for gauging the nature of relationship between the variables as well as for testing the robustness of the results. We found that FDI has a positive and significant relationship with GDP and the exports. Whereas, FDI has insignificant relationship with the employment and capital formation. The article holds an important policy implication for the other developing countries of Latin America; they need to attract good amount of inward FDI to achieve the robust economic growth and development. Macroeconomic stability is one of the important factors influencing the growth and development of national economies in today's modern global economy. Economic policy should create conditions for macroeconomic stability and economic growth based on increased investment, exports, savings, productivity, and competitiveness, while reducing macroeconomic imbalances, especially the fiscal deficit, inflation, and the current account deficit. In order to achieve macroeconomic stability, as well as sustainable economic growth, it is important to pursue a rational economic policy and carry out accelerated structural reforms. The main objective of the paper is to analyze the impact of key indicators, i.e., export and import of goods and services and FDI on economic growth of the Western Balkans countries. Such an analysis is important to show the state of the economy and predict its stability. The research focuses on the countries of the Western Balkans, while the analysis uses secondary data from the UNCTAD database for the period 2011-2020. The research results indicate that Serbia is progressing much faster than other countries of the Western Balkans. In the coming period, a growth trend can be expected in all Western Balkan countries, which will result in better economic development and increasing openness to new investments. The rapid growth of agriculture has led to a significant increase in energy utilization and CO2 emissions. Agriculture performs a pivotal role in improving every country's economy. The current study has the main objective to analyses the long-run impact of agricultural CO2 discharge on economic growth, energy consumption (electricity utilization in the agriculture sector), financial development, foreign direct investment (FDI), and population for India. For the period 1978–2018, we applied ADF, PP, ERS, and KPSS unit root and Z&A and CMR structural interval tests to evaluate the stability and breaks in the data set. We check the cointegration of study variables through ARDL, Engle–Granger, and Johansen's cointegration approaches. The findings of the long-run analysis showed a cointegration among the variables, which reveals that an escalation in economic growth and financial development refine the natural environment, while the upsurge in FDI and population further deteriorate the climate in India. However, agricultural sector electricity use shows an insignificant association with CO2 emissions for both periods. On the basis of results, we recommend that legislators should offer an environment that provides opportunities for financial development and economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The quest for the attainment of economic development is sought after by all global economies, which by effect is expected to transcend to improving livelihoods and standard of living. However, several factors hinder the process of achieving sustained economic development, especially in developing countries. In this regard, assessing the extent of economic expansion orchestrated by foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in vulnerable economies such as Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), particularly in the face of the significant fall in global FDI inflow, is worthwhile. In essence, this study ascertains the impact of FDI inflows and external debt on economic growth amidst decline in FDI inflows and excessive foreign borrowings. The mixed order of integration from the stationarity test underpins the adoption of autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach for data covering the period 1990 to 2018. The empirical results found FDI inflows play a crucial role in achieving economic expansion in the region. On average, FDI inflows, external debt, and foreign aids are more useful in expanding the economy compared to trade openness and exchange rate. Thus, this study recommends the need for SSA to open its economic borders for external capital, viz. FDI. A peaceful economic and political environment is a pre-condition to attract and maintain potential foreign investors. Stability in exchange rates is critical in achieving growth in FDI and other foreign resources. However, caution is required, especially in administration of external resources. Particularly, contracting external debt must strictly be driven by economic reasons rather than political motivation. Owing to globalization, there has been a significant policy shift towards outwardlooking market-oriented developmental strategies, which is more evident in the developing world. This trend has led to a remarkable increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows as a means of acquiring technology and skill contributing to the overall economic development of a country. Since FDI offers to channelize resources towards productive activities, this has propelled researchers to investigate the role of FDI in promoting growth, more particularly in developing economies. The growth literature reveals a shred of conflicting evidence regarding the growthperformance of FDI. So, the present study serves to be an addition to the existing literature conducted to re-examine the FDI-growth linkage using recent data over a relatively long period for the fastest growing Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) economies selected meticulously for being representative developing economies and significant players in attracting inward FDI. Using the cluster regression estimation method for random effects over the period 1987-2018, the study finds a significant positive impact of FDI on the economic growth, thereby supporting the growth-enhancing role of FDI.
