Abstract

Noting that locating suitable space can be a challenge when starting a new early childhood program or relocating an established program in New York City, this resource paper focuses on physical sites for early education and child care programs and services. Presented in three parts, the paper includes tips for assessing the feasibility of a potential site, estimating the cost, finding the funding to develop the site, and working with an architect. Part 1 identifies six ways to locate potential sites in the community. Part 2 provides suggestions for assessing the suitability of a site for a child care program, considering both licensing requirements and program needs. This part includes tips with regard to amount of instructional space, location in building, other space, playground, rent, and potential space problems. Part 3 focuses on finding and working effectively with a qualified architect. This part includes questions to ask the architect, a list of architectural services, a glossary of architectural terms, and addresses for further information. (KB)

Papers on library architecture, which were presented at the 1982 International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) conference focus on the effect of library networks on library design. Topics include: (1) "Some Problems in Designing of the University Library Buildings in China: A Developing Country University Librarian's View Based on His Own Experience," a discussion by Zhu Chenggong (People's Republic of China) of library facilities at the Tsing Hua (Qing Hua) University Library, located in Peking, and the need for comparison with library building design in other countries, flexibility in library space design, and cooperation between librarians and architects in designing libraries; (2) "Library Buildings in the Network Context: A Canadian Architect's Perspective" by Michael G. Werleman (Canada), which considers the responsibilities of librarians, library building consultants, and architects in library building design, and gives an example of flexible space design for a mixed-use building at Concordia University which will contain both library and non-library space; and (3) "Library Buildings in the Network Context," a discussion by Margaret Beckman (Canada) of the implications of changing information technologies and increasing library network participation on library collection space and access, staff space and organization, user needs, changing library functions and functional relationships, and mechanical/electrical/structural considerations in building design. Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyse the main technologies of production of the tracing paper, to determine their characteristics and their influence on the state of preservation and methods of restoration. To describe the practical experience of restoration on the example of two projects executed on the tracing paper by architect P. Alyoshyn (projects). Methodology: analyse the art, methods of systematization, comparison, and generalization to determine the optimal methods of restoration and conservation measures for the preservation of heritage on the tracing paper. The scientific novelty consists in the introduction into scientific circulation of a comprehensive study of the main features and the implementation of restoration and conservation measures to preserve the works of architectural graphics on the tracing paper. Conclusions. The analysis of factors that should be considered when carrying out conservation and restoration measures for the preservation of collections made on tracing paper allow us to apply the experience gained in practice of preservation of monuments. It is established that the types and methods of making tracing paper affect the state of preservation and selection of methods for restoration and conservation processes. The successful practical experience of restoration of two works by architect P. Alyoshyn executed on tracing paper - "Concert hall" and "Facade of the Zemsky house" is described. 5. NEET-UG case: Architect held for taking inquiry paper from NTA's trunk.

Abstract

The Focal Agency of Examination (CBI) has arrested two individuals, Pankaj Kumar Singh and Raju Singh, in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. Pankaj, an architect, allegedly took the question paper while it was being transported to Hazaribagh in iron trunks. Rakesh Ranjan, also known as Rough, was previously arrested and is considered a central participant in the case. Over a dozen people have been arrested so far, causing a political controversy. The NEET (UG) 2024 exams were conducted on May 5, with over 23 lakh students appearing for the test. The paper leak controversy has put the future of many students at risk. The UGC-NET test, which was scheduled for June, was canceled due to similar circumstances. The High Court will begin hearing petitions alleging irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG exam on July 18. [Extracted from the article]

The Urban Redevelopment Authority and National Library Board are hosting an exhibition called "To Draw an Idea" at the URA Centre. The exhibition explores the designs of Singapore architectural firms, William Lim Associates and W Architects, and their impact on local buildings over the past four decades. Abstract

This paper draws on the experience of the Sebastopol Union School District, a small school district in California, which formed a team to manage facilities renovation. The team was comprised of the district superintendent, the architect, a construction manager, and a facility/financial consultant; it allowed the district to succeed at the school construction "game" in a manner similar to large school districts that enjoy well-developed facility departments. The paper outlines the roles and responsibilities of each member of the team in the following identified phases of facility development: master planning/educational specifications, funding and finances, design, pre- construction, construction, and post-construction. It illustrates the manner in which the several consultants coordinated their roles and responsibilities in an effort to ensure the most effective leadership for successful completion of projects that support the facility master plan. This paper explores problems involving expertise of design participants and the design process hampering the creation of high quality child care facilities that promote child development. Problems addressed include architects and designers needing more knowledge of child development and operation of child care centers, the inability of those who do know child development and child care center operations to translate this knowledge into space design, and the relay approach of traditional design process contributing to poor child care center facilities.
