A major problem in employee selection coalesces around convincing decision‐makers (e.g., hiring managers) to use analytically derived models. Existing recommendations in the literature largely focus on convincing executives to adopt analytical models and then exert their top‐down influence on lower‐level hiring decisions. In contrast to these solutions, we explore end user modifiability (i.e., allowing decision‐makers to modify a statistical model before use) as a bottom‐up approach for increasing hiring managers' implementation of analytical recommendations. From a utility standpoint, we consider how incorporating end user modifiability into hiring decisions will result in a less statistically valid, but potentially more valuable, organizational selection process. We explore these ideas in two studies. In Study 1, we experimentally test whether model modification increases decision‐maker reliance on a statistical model, as well as how much decision‐makers need to modify a model in order to use it. In Study 2, we examine the extent that modifiability introduces implicit biases that might adversely affect marginalized groups. Results suggest that modifiability can increase decision‐makers' perceived usefulness of a model and, importantly, that only a small amount of modifiability is needed to elicit this effect. Further, end user modifications were statistically insignificant predictors of hiring rates across race‐based subgroups, though supplementary analyses suggest important cautionary nuance. Given that analytical models are rarely perfectly or wholly implemented, end user modifiability may offer a viable solution for organizations seeking to increase the implementation of algorithmic guidance in selection decisions, even if it deviates modestly from a statistical optimality. Introduction: Chest X‐ray (CXR) remains one of the tools used in diagnosing tuberculosis (TB). However, few studies about such tools exist, specifically in children in Indonesia. We aim to investigate and compare the CXR findings of children with pulmonary drug‐resistant TB (DR‐TB) and drug‐sensitive TB (DS‐TB) that could help in the evaluation and management of TB cases in children. Methods: Retrospective analysis with cross‐sectional approach was conducted in children (<18 years old) diagnosed with pulmonary DR‐TB and DS‐TB from January 2018 to December 2021. Documented data were collected from the Paediatric Respirology Registry and Tuberculosis Information System at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung. Characteristics of children, CXR findings, and TB severity were assessed and compared using the chi‐square and Fisher's exact tests with significance levels set at p value <0.05. Results: Sixty‐nine children (DR‐TB 31 children vs. DS‐TB 38 children) were assessed. Of the 31 children with DR‐TB, 65% were classified as multidrug‐resistant TB (MDR‐TB), followed by rifampicin‐resistant TB (RR‐TB), pre‐extensively drug‐resistant TB (pre‐XDR‐TB), and extensively drug‐resistant TB (XDR‐TB). The most common CXR findings in DR‐TB are consolidation (68%), fibrosis (42%), and cavity (29%), whereas in DS‐TB, it is pleura effusion (37%). Severe TB accounts for 50% of DR‐TB (p = 0.008). Conclusions: Consolidation, fibrosis, cavities, and findings of severe TB are most common in DR‐TB. Pleural effusion is the most common in DS‐TB. These findings have the potential to be considered in further examination of children with pulmonary DR‐TB and DS‐TB; hence, more extensive studies are needed to confirm these results. The article discusses the presence of mouse IgG antibodies in the widely used mouse IgE clone SPE-7, which is used to study IgE biology and function. The study found that SPE-7 contains IgG2a/b-IgE complexes, which can alter the functional profile of IgE. The presence of IgG in SPE-7 was confirmed through various assays, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). These findings challenge the concept that IgE exerts antigen-independent effects on mast cell degranulation and survival. The study suggests that the presence of contaminating IgGs in therapeutic IgE antibodies should be considered, as they may alter the functional and pharmacological profile of these antibodies. Background: Frailty is a multidimensional geriatric syndrome associated with physical, psychological and social changes. There is a paucity of research on frailty in Sub‐Saharan African (SSA) countries, especially Ethiopia. Objectives: To assess the initial correlations among frailty, nutritional status, depression and QOL (quality of life) in a group of older people in Ethiopia who are later enrolled in a study examining the effects of a nurse‐led community intervention on frailty and related health outcomes. Methods: Data from 68 community‐dwelling individuals 60 years of age, or over, were collected. Frailty was measured using the Amharic version of the Tilburg Frailty Indicator. The statistical analysis included Spearman's rank correlation coefficient for degrees of association, Mann–Whitney U‐test for variables with two categories and Kruskal–Wallis for variables with three or more categories. Results: The mean frailty score for participants was 7.3 (±1.9). Participants with higher frailty scores had lower nutritional status (rs = −0.46, p < 0.01). There was a statistically significant relationship (positive) between frailty scores and depression (rs = 0.39, p < 0.01). Depressed (Md = 9, n = 23) and non‐depressed frail older people (Md = 7, n = 45) showed a significant difference in their overall frailty score, U = 330.50, z = −2.49, p = 0.01, r = 0.30. There was an inverse significant association between the level of frailty across different domains in the QOL: physical (rs = −0.44, p < 0.01), psychological (rs = −0.45, p < 0.01), social relations (rs = −0.29, p < 0.05) and environmental (rs = −0.47, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The findings from this study were consistent with those from across middle‐income and high‐income countries. Implications for Practice: This research indicates that older people living in communities who are identified as frail often suffer from a poor nutritional status, depression and reduced QOL. It suggests that healthcare professionals in Sub‐Saharan countries would benefit from recognising the frailty in this population, and developing interventions aimed at enhancing nutrition, mental health and overall well‐being. The article discusses the discovery of a novel feature of group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) called ILC2 extracellular traps (ETs) and ILC2 ETosis. The researchers found that ILC2s have the ability to engulf bacteria and produce ETs. They observed that ILC2 cells increased in volume and their nuclei became dispersed throughout the cells when exposed to Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. The study also explored the release of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) by ILC2s and the protein composition of ILC2 ETs. Introduction: Previous research indicates that children with Paediatric Acute‐onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) experience sensory reactivity differences that impact occupational performance. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there are differences in sensory reactivity in these children across two different time points; during exacerbation and during remission, using the Sensory Processing Measure (SPM) Home‐Form. The study also sought to investigate whether children with PANS experience sensory differences during remission periods, when compared with SPM Home‐Form norms. Methods: A two‐period bidirectional case‐crossover design was used, and an online assessment was conducted to measure sensory reactivity. Parents of children aged 4.6 to 13.1 years with a diagnosis of PANS were recruited from various sites across Australia, USA, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and New Zealand. The SPM Home‐Form was used to measure sensory reactivity at two time points, when PANS was in remission (T‐R) and in exacerbation (T‐E). Study entry was permitted at either T‐E or T‐R. Participant exacerbation status was monitored over a maximum 12‐month period, and a follow‐up SPM Home‐Form was sent when a change in exacerbation status was indicated. A linear mixed model was used to assess the difference between SPM Home‐Form norm‐referenced scores during exacerbation and remission. Results: The study included 82 participants, with 80 providing data at study entry, and 27 providing data at follow‐up. Results showed a statistically significant decline in performance across the SPM Home‐Form domains of Hearing, Social Participation, Planning and Ideas, and Total Sensory Systems T‐scores during exacerbation when compared with remission data. Results also demonstrated atypical sensory reactivity across Vision, Hearing, Touch, Balance and Motion, and Total Sensory Systems domains during periods of remission compared with SPM Home‐Form norms. Conclusion: This study found that children with PANS experience significant sensory reactivity differences during exacerbation and remission across multiple sensory domains, with a decline in performance during exacerbation. Where there are occupational performance challenges, occupational therapists should consider administering sensory assessments so that effective intervention plans addressing the unique sensory reactivity needs of children with PANS can be developed. Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is associated with a range of non‐motor symptomologies such as anxiety and depression. Objective: The purpose of this research was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with mental health status in persons with PD. Design: This retrospective data linkage study analysed a subset of data from the Sax Institute's 45 and Up Study based in the population of the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Data was analysed between 2005‐2009 of persons who self‐identified with PD. Secure data access was provided through the Sax Institute's Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE). Participants were aged 45+ years of age and living in NSW, Australia. Regression analysis was performed on psychological distress (K10), previous diagnosis of anxiety, and/or depression, with independent variables for locality, demographic, health, medical, and sociocultural factors. Findings: A total of 1676 persons self‐identified with PD from the 45 and Up Study Wave 1 baseline and were linked to the 2010 Social, Economic and Environmental Factors (SEEF) survey dataset. Mental health manifestations are common in PD with 29% and 32% reporting a previous medical diagnosis of anxiety and depression, respectively. Rural locality was associated with an increased likelihood of psychological distress, anxiety, and depression compared to metropolitan locality. Discussion: Mental health status in PD was associated with living in rural areas, medical service access, female gender, ageing, physical mobility, Australian born, social interactions, and in a coupled relationship. Background: Laser balloon (LB) pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is an established ablation technique for atrial fibrillation (AF). We report long‐term follow‐up and procedural data of LB‐PVI and we compare the first and second LB generation. Methods: Patients undergoing LB ablation with first‐ (LB1) or second‐generation LB (LB2) for AF were retrospectively enrolled and divided into two groups. Procedural endpoint was complete PVI. Clinical success was defined as no recurrence of AF/atrial tachycardia after a 90 days blanking period. Results: 538 patients were included (age 66 ± 10 years, 58% paroxysmal AF), 427 in LB1 and 111 in LB2. 2079 PVs were targeted and 2073 (99.7%) were successfully isolated; 2027 (97.5%) using solely the LB. Additional touch‐up ablation was limited (46 PVs; 2.2%) with no difference between the groups. Procedural (LB1: 120 ± 33 minutes vs. LB2: 99 ± 22 min; p <.001) and fluoroscopy time (LB1: 11.2 ± 5 min vs. LB2: 8.5 ± 3 min; p <.001) were shorter with LB2. The complication rate was 8.9% (LB1: 10.1% vs. LB2: 4.5%; p =.067) with most complications resulting from the access site (21/48). Overall freedom from AF after 1‐year was 73.7% (paroxysmal AF: 76.9%; persistent AF: 69.3%; p <.001) with no difference between the groups (LB1: 73.4% vs. LB2: 74.7%; p =.491). Conclusion: LB showed a high efficacy and acceptable safety, with numerically lower complication rates with the second‐generation LB. Procedure and fluoroscopy times were shorter with LB2. Most researchers receive formal training in frequentist statistics during their undergraduate studies. In particular, hypothesis testing is usually rooted on the null hypothesis significance testing paradigm and its p‐value. Null hypothesis Bayesian testing and its so‐called Bayes factor are now becoming increasingly popular. Although the Bayes factor is often introduced as being the Bayesian counterpart to the p‐value, its computation, use, and interpretation are quite distinct from the p‐value. There is now evidence confirming that the application of the Bayes factor in applied research is ill‐devised. To improve the current status quo, we have created a Shiny/R app called the Bayes factor, which offers a dynamic tutorial for learning all the basics about the Bayes factor. This study tackles the Garden of Forking Paths, as a challenge for replicability and reproducibility of ERP studies. Here, we applied a multiverse analysis to a sample ERP N400 dataset, donated by an independent research team. We analyzed this dataset using 14 pipelines selected to showcase the full range of methodological variability found in the N400 literature using systematic review approach. The selected pipelines were compared in depth by looking into statistical test outcomes, descriptive statistics, effect size, data quality, and statistical power. In this way we provide a worked example of how analytic flexibility can impact results in research fields with high dimensionality such as ERP, when analyzed using standard null‐hypothesis significance testing. Out of the methodological decisions that were varied, high‐pass filter cut‐off, artifact removal method, baseline duration, reference, measurement latency and locations, and amplitude measure (peak vs. mean) were all shown to affect at least some of the study outcome measures. Low‐pass filtering was the only step which did not notably influence any of these measures. This study shows that even some of the seemingly minor procedural deviations can influence the conclusions of an ERP study. We demonstrate the power of multiverse analysis in both identifying the most reliable effects in a given study, and for providing insights into consequences of methodological decisions. Background: Cancer screening is a pivotal method for reducing mortality from disease, but the screening coverage is still lower than expected. Telehealth interventions demonstrated significant benefits in cancer care, yet there is currently no consensus on their impact on facilitating cancer screening or on the most effective remote technology. Design: A network meta‐analysis was conducted to detect the impact of telehealth interventions on cancer screening and to identify the most effective teletechnologies. Methods: Six English databases were searched from inception until July 2023 to yield relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Two individual authors completed the literature selection, data extraction, and methodological evaluations using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Traditional pairwise analysis and network meta‐analysis were performed to identify the overall effects and compare different teletechnologies. Results: Thirty‐four eligible RCTs involving 131,644 participants were enrolled. Overall, telehealth interventions showed statistically significant effects on the improvement of cancer screening. Subgroup analyses revealed that telehealth interventions were most effective for breast and cervical cancer screening, and rural populations also experienced benefits, but there was no improvement in screening for older adults. The network meta‐analysis indicated that mobile applications, video plus telephone, and text message plus telephone were associated with more obvious improvements in screening than other teletechnologies. Conclusion: Our study identified that telehealth interventions were effective for the completion of cancer screening and clarified the exact impact of telehealth on different cancer types, ages, and rural populations. Mobile applications, video plus telephone, and text message plus telephone are the three forms of teletechnologies most likely to improve cancer screening. More well‐designed RCTs involving direct comparisons of different teletechnologies are needed in the future. Clinical Relevance: Telehealth interventions should be encouraged to facilitate cancer screening, and the selection of the optimal teletechnology based on the characteristics of the population is also necessary. Objective: To describe who seeks care and for what reasons at a nurse‐led primary healthcare walk‐in center in an immigrant‐dense area. Studies evaluating the use of nurse‐led walk‐in centers in primary healthcare, emphasizing migrants, are limited. Due to language difficulties and a healthcare system based on telephone consultations, access to care is limited/problematic for the care seeker and the healthcare provider. The center aims to provide migrants and Swedish‐born persons equal access to primary healthcare. Care was integrated into a healthcare center with a multi‐professional environment, offering Arabic and Somali interpreters. Design: Cross‐sectional descriptive registry study. Sample: All consecutive patients visiting during 1‐month. Results: Most individuals (70%) seeking care at the nurse‐led walk‐in center were non‐European migrants from Syria, Iraq and Somalia, but Swedish‐born persons (30%) also consulted the clinic. Women, middle‐aged, and lower‐educated patients dominated. Reasons for seeking care included different kinds of pain, ear/nose/throat issues, and skin problems. Migrants prioritized non‐specific pain and dizziness/headaches, while Swedes sought help primarily for upper respiratory tract infections. About 25% of the migrants needed interpreters, mostly females. Conclusion: The nurse‐led walk‐in center provides accessible care in a multi‐professional team, if needed, serving migrants and Swedish‐born persons, promoting equal healthcare for all. We propose and illustrate a general framework in which spatial autocorrelation is measured by the Frobenius product of two kernels, a feature kernel and a spatial kernel. The resulting autocorrelation index δ$$ \delta $$ generalizes Moran's index in the weighted, multivariate setting, where regions, differing in importance, are characterized by multivariate features. Spatial kernels can traditionally be obtained from a matrix of spatial weights, or directly from geographical distances. In the former case, the Markov transition matrix defined by row‐normalized spatial weights must be made compatible with the regional weights, as well as reversible. Equivalently, space is specified by a symmetric exchange matrix containing the joint probabilities to select a pair of regions. Four original weight‐compatible constructions, based upon the binary adjacency matrix, are presented and analyzed. Weighted multidimensional scaling on kernels yields a low‐dimensional visualization of both the feature and the spatial configurations. The expected values of the first four moments of δ$$ \delta $$ under the null hypothesis of absence of spatial autocorrelation can be exactly computed under a new approach, invariant orthogonal integration, thus permitting to test the significance of δ$$ \delta $$ beyond the normal approximation, which only involves its expectation and expected variance. Summary: During shading, the mismatch between the panels in the photovoltaic (PV) array mitigates the global maximum power (GMP). Besides, the mismatch in the irradiation levels of distinct rows of the PV array instigates multiple power peaks (MPPs) in the array characteristics. Distinguishing the local and global peaks among MPPs for tracking the GMP is highly challenging for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers. So, to mitigate the MPPs and enhance the GMP, array reconfiguration is preferred. Nevertheless, most existing reconfiguration techniques exhibit poor shade dispersal, distorted electrical characteristics, multiple MPPs, increased mismatch, scalability issues, etc. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a new Padovan transform‐based encryption strategy for array reconfiguration. The proposed method was evaluated for both symmetric and unsymmetrically sized arrays. Its performance has also been compared to that of 23 other strategies. The proposed reconfiguration strategy integrated with MPPT is validated experimentally using a prototype model. A nonparametric statistical hypothesis test with a p‐value of 0.05 has been used for a pairwise fair comparison study among the examined approaches. The proposed approach constantly outperforms the current methods because of its unique shade dispersion generated through intelligent reconfiguration offering the GMP improvement of 34.429%, 12.51%, 5.05%, and 37.40%, 22.93%, 16.51% for 9 × 9 and 4 × 8 PV arrays, respectively. In the context of functional time series, we propose a significance test to distinguish between short memory with a change point and long range dependence. The test is based on coefficients of projections onto an optimal direction that captures the dependence structure of the latent stationary functions that are not observable due to a potential change point. The optimal direction must be estimated as well. The test statistic is constructed using the local Whittle estimator applied to these coefficients. It has standard normal distribution under the null hypothesis (change point) and diverges to infinity under the alternative (long range dependence). The analysis of multiple bivariate correlations is often carried out by conducting simple tests to check whether each of them is significantly different from zero. In addition, pairwise differences are often judged by eye or by comparing the p‐values of the individual tests of significance despite the existence of statistical tests for differences between correlations. This paper uses simulation methods to assess the accuracy (empirical Type I error rate), power, and robustness of 10 tests designed to check the significance of the difference between two dependent correlations with overlapping variables (i.e., the correlation between X1 and Y and the correlation between X2 and Y). Five of the tests turned out to be inadvisable because their empirical Type I error rates under normality differ greatly from the nominal alpha level of .05 either across the board or within certain sub‐ranges of the parameter space. The remaining five tests were acceptable and their merits were similar in terms of all comparison criteria, although none of them was robust across all forms of non‐normality explored in the study. Functional networks often guide our interpretation of spatial maps of brain–phenotype associations. However, methods for assessing enrichment of associations within networks of interest have varied in terms of both scientific rigor and underlying assumptions. While some approaches have relied on subjective interpretations, others have made unrealistic assumptions about spatial properties of imaging data, leading to inflated false positive rates. We seek to address this gap in existing methodology by borrowing insight from a method widely used in genetics research for testing enrichment of associations between a set of genes and a phenotype of interest. We propose network enrichment significance testing (NEST), a flexible framework for testing the specificity of brain–phenotype associations to functional networks or other sub‐regions of the brain. Background: Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the GI tract. SEER is an extensive cancer database which proves useful in analyzing population trends. This analysis investigated GIST outcomes between geriatric & non‐geriatric patients. Methods: SEER*STAT 8.4.0.1 was used to extract relevant GIST data from 2000 to 2019. Geriatric age was defined as ≥70 years. Variables included age, sex, surgery, cancer‐specific death, and overall survival. Statistical tests included univariate analysis using KM survival estimate (95% confidence interval) to calculate 5‐year survival (5YS). Log‐Rank tests determined statistical significance. Multivariable Cox's PH regression estimated the geriatric hazard death ratio adjusted for sex, stage, and surgery. Results: The number of patients included was 13,579, yielding overall 5YS of 68.6% (95% CI 67.7–69.5). Cancer‐specific death was 39.11% in 2000 & 3.33% in 2019. Non‐geriatric & geriatric patient data yielded 5YS of 77.4% (76.4%–78.3%) and 53.3% (51.7%–54.8%) respectively (p < 0.0001). For no surgery/surgery, younger patient data yielded 5YS of 48.7% (45.8%–51.4%) and 83.7% (82.7%–84.7%) respectively (p < 0.0001); geriatric data yielded 5YS of 29.3% (26.5%–32.1%) and 62.8% (60.8%–64.6%) respectively (p < 0.0001). Multivariable analysis yielded a geriatric hazard death of 2.56 (2.42–2.70) (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Cancer‐specific death decreased since 2000, indicating an improvement in survival & treatment methods. Observed lower survival rates overall in the geriatric group. Surgery appeared to enhance survival rates in both groups, suggesting that surgery is an important factor in GIST survival regardless of age. Mediation analysis intends to unveil the underlying relationship between an outcome variable and an exposure variable through one or more intermediate variables called mediators. In recent decades, research on mediation analysis has been focusing on multivariate mediation models, where the number of mediating variables is possibly of high dimension. This paper concerns high‐dimensional mediation analysis and proposes a three‐step algorithm that extracts and utilizes inter‐connectivity among candidate mediators. More specifically, the proposed methodology starts with a screening procedure to reduce the dimensionality of the initial set of candidate mediators, followed by a penalized regression model that incorporates both parameter‐ and group‐wise regularization, and ends with fitting a multivariate mediation model and identifying active mediating variables through a joint significance test. To showcase the performance of the proposed algorithm, we conducted two simulation studies in high‐dimensional and ultra‐high‐dimensional settings, respectively. Furthermore, we demonstrate the practical applications of the proposal using a real data set that uncovers the possible impact of environmental toxicants on women's gestational age at delivery through 61 biomarkers that belong to 7 biological pathways. Background: Given students' lack of self‐directed learning skills and the growing concern about implementing massive online open courses (MOOCs) in K12 education, learning strategies are needed to facilitate MOOC learning. Many studies have provided different strategies for effective learning in MOOCs. However, there is still limited research to confirm whether these strategies effectively support MOOC learning when deployed by secondary schools, which are not MOOC developers. Objectives: This mixed‐method study examines the provision of different learning strategies, including a learning guide, an academic mentoring programme, a training workshop, and a reimbursement scheme, and investigates the impact of these strategies on student learning in MOOCs. Methods: The study uses two data sources: (1) surveys with 40 participants and (2) semi‐structured interviews with 12 participants. The quantitative data were analysed with descriptive statistics and Fisher's exact test, and the qualitative data were analysed with thematic analysis. Results and Conclusion: The findings indicate that MOOC learners had positive attitudes towards the overall school support, with mentoring enjoying great popularity amongst the students. In terms of the effectiveness of the school support, the mentoring programme and reimbursement scheme were more effective than the university training and learning guide. Background: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by extreme preoccupation with non‐existent or minor defects in appearance, disrupting daily functioning. Melasma is a common concern among BDD patients with dermatological conditions. This study aimed to estimate the incidence and characteristics of BDD in patients with melasma, and compare the psychological condition of patients and age‐ and sex‐matched healthy controls. Methods: Patients with melasma and healthy controls were screened using the BDD Questionnaire (BDDQ), Self‐rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Self‐rating Depression Scale (SDS). A questionnaire was administered to collect demographic information and clinical characteristics. Standard statistical tests were conducted, such as descriptive analysis, chi‐square, and nonparametric tests. The level of statistical significance for all tests was set at a P < 0.05. Results: Among the 470 patients with melasma included in the study, 53 were positive for BDDQ in the preliminary screening and were associated with a history of treatment, higher Melasma Area and Severity Index (MASI), and Melasma Quality of Life (MELASQoL) scores, and higher SAS and SDS scores. The positive rate of BDDQ ranged from 0.4%, using the most stringent criteria to assess melasma severity, to 11.3%, without using objective criteria. Compared to healthy controls, patients with melasma had a higher positive rate of BDDQ and higher SAS and SDS scores. Conclusion: In patients with melasma who exaggerate the severity of the disease, psychiatric treatment and the patient‐physician relationship have a positive effect. A recurring question is whether rating scales should be considered metrically scaled or merely ordinally scaled. This has direct implications for the permissible statistical procedures for significance testing. Based on the results of a simulation study, it is shown that the use of parametric procedures for rating scales has distinct advantages over the nonparametric alternatives. It is also shown that the parametric procedures are robust to violations of the assumption of normality, which only result in a modest loss of power compared with continuous variables. This loss should be taken into account when calculating the optimal sample size. With limited understanding of most new biotechnologies, how do citizens form their opinion and what factors influence their attitudes about these innovations? In this study, we use gene drive biotechnology in agricultural pest management as an example and theoretically propose that given low levels of knowledge and awareness, citizens' acceptance of, or opposition to, gene drive is significantly shaped by two predisposition factors: individuals' general orientation toward science and technology, and their specific benefit‐risk assessment frame. Empirically, we employ data collected from a recent US nationally representative public opinion survey (N = 1220) and conduct statistical analyses to test the hypotheses derived from our theoretical expectations. Our statistical analyses, based on various model specifications and controlling for individual‐level covariates and state‐fixed effects, show that citizens with a more favorable general orientation toward science and technology are more likely to accept gene drive. Our data analyses also demonstrate that citizens' specific gene drive assessment frame—consisting of a potential benefit dimension and a potential risk dimension, significantly shapes their attitudes as well—specifically, people emphasizing more on the benefit dimension are more likely to accept gene drive, whereas those who place more importance on the risk dimension tend to oppose it. Introduction: More than half of the patients with moderate and severe osteoarthritis (OA) report unsatisfactory pain relief, requiring consideration of intra‐articular (IA) injections as the second‐line management. Ultrasound‐guided IA injection has proven evidence of higher accuracy in administering IA injectates into the joints than landmark‐guided or blind IA injections. However, questions remain about translating higher accuracy rates of ultrasound‐guided injection into better clinical improvements. Therefore, we examined the symptomatic benefits (pain, function and patient satisfaction) of ultrasound‐guided injection in knee, hip and hand OA compared with blind injections by synthesising a systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCT). Methods: PubMed, Medline and Embase databases were searched for eligible studies from their inception to August 28, 2023. Results: Out of 295 records, our meta‐analysis included four RCTs (338 patients with knee OA), demonstrating significant improvement in procedural pain [−0.89 (95% CI −1.25, −0.53)], pain at follow‐up [−0.51 (95% CI −0.98, −0.04)] and function [1.30 (95% CI 0.86, 1.73)], favouring ultrasound guidance. One single study showed higher patient satisfaction with ultrasound guidance. Many segmentation or change‐point detection methods for homogenizing climate time series compare candidate station data with reference data to eliminate common climate signals and more efficiently detect spurious, non‐climatic changes. One drawback is that it is difficult to decide whether the detected change‐point is due to the candidate series or to the reference. A so‐called attribution procedure is typically applied in a post‐processing step for each detected change‐point. This article describes a new statistical method for the attribution of change‐points detected in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) minus reanalysis series of integrated water vapour. It requires at least one nearby station with similar GNSS and reanalysis data. Six series of differences are formed from the four base series (BS) and are tested for a significant jump at the time of the change‐point detected in the candidate station. The six test results are analysed with a statistical predictive rule to attribute the change‐point to one, or several, of the four BS. Original aspects of our method are: (1) the significance test, which is based on a generalized linear regression approach, taking both heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation into account; (2) the predictive rule, which uses a machine learning method and is constructed from the test results obtained with the real data by using a resampling strategy. Four popular machine learning methods have been compared using cross‐validation and the best one was applied to a real data set (49 main stations with 114 change‐points). The results depend on the choice of the test significance level and the aggregation method combining the prediction results when several nearby stations are available. Hydraulic fracturing (HF) is commonly used to enhance onshore recovery of oil and gas during production. This process involves the use of a variety of chemicals to support the physical extraction of oil and gas, maintain appropriate conditions downhole (e.g., redox conditions, pH), and limit microbial growth. The diversity of chemicals used in HF presents a significant challenge for risk assessment. The objective of the present study is to establish a transparent, reproducible procedure for estimating 5th percentile acute aquatic hazard concentrations (e.g., acute hazard concentration 5th percentiles [HC5s]) for these substances and validating against existing toxicity data. A simplified, grouped target site model (gTSM) was developed using a database (n = 1696) of diverse compounds with known mode of action (MoA) information. Statistical significance testing was employed to reduce model complexity by combining 11 discrete MoAs into three general hazard groups. The new model was trained and validated using an 80:20 allocation of the experimental database. The gTSM predicts toxicity using a combination of target site water partition coefficients and hazard group‐based critical target site concentrations. Model performance was comparable to the original TSM using 40% fewer parameters. Model predictions were judged to be sufficiently reliable and the gTSM was further used to prioritize a subset of reported Permian Basin HF substances for risk evaluation. The gTSM was applied to predict hazard groups, species acute toxicity, and acute HC5s for 186 organic compounds (neutral and ionic). Toxicity predictions and acute HC5 estimates were validated against measured acute toxicity data compiled for HF substances. This case study supports the gTSM as an efficient, cost‐effective computational tool for rapid aquatic hazard assessment of diverse organic chemicals. Granger causality is a classical and important technique for measuring predictability from one group of time series to another by incorporating information of the variables described by a full vector autoregressive (VAR) process. However, in some applications economic forecasts need to be made based on information provided merely by a portion of variates (e.g., removal of a listed stock due to halting, suspension or delisting). This requires a new formulation of forecast based on an embedded subprocess of VAR, whose theoretical properties are often difficult to obtain. To avoid the issue of identifying the VAR subprocess, we propose a computation‐based approach so that sophisticated predictions can be made by utilizing a reduced variable information set estimated from sampled data. Such estimated information set allows us to develop a suitable statistical hypothesis testing procedure for characterizing all designated Granger causal relationships, as well as a useful graphical tool for presenting the causal structure over the prediction horizon. Introduction: Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder among humans after headaches. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 50–65 million individuals were diagnosed with epilepsy throughout the world, and around two million new cases of epilepsy are added to this figure every year. Methods: Designed as descriptive and cross‐sectional research, this study was performed on 132 elementary school teachers. Training on epilepsy and epileptic seizure was given to teachers. The pretest and posttest research data were collected with the face‐to‐face interview method. In this process, the epilepsy knowledge scale was used as well as a survey form that had questions designed to find out about teachers' personal characteristics. The Statistical Package for Social Science 25.0 was utilized in the statistical analysis of research data. In the research, the statistical significance was identified if the p‐value was below.05 (p <.05). Results: Of all teachers participating in the study, 59.1% were female, 90.2% were married, and 47.7% witnessed an epilepsy seizure before. The mean of teachers' pretest epilepsy knowledge scores was 8.43 ± 4.31 points before the training while the mean of their posttest epilepsy knowledge scores was 12.65 ± 2.48 points after the training. The difference between the means of pretest and posttest scores was statistically significant (p =.000). After the training, there was a statistically significant increase in means of scores obtained by teachers from each item of the epilepsy knowledge scale (p <.05). Conclusions: As there was a statistically significant improvement in levels of teachers' knowledge about both epilepsy and epileptic seizure after the training, it is recommended that the training about the approach to epilepsy and epileptic seizure be given to all teachers, and additionally, including these topics in the course curricula of universities is recommended. Background: The Pediatric Eating Assessment Tool (PEDI‐EAT‐10) is a reliable and valid tool for rapid identification of dysphagia in patients aged 18 months to 18 years. Aims: To translate and adapt the PEDI‐EAT‐10 into the Italian language and evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods & Procedures: The translation and cross‐cultural adaptation of the tool consisted of five stages: initial translation, synthesis of the translations, back translation, expert committee evaluation and test of the prefinal version. The internal consistency of the translated tool was analysed in a clinical group composed of 200 patients with special healthcare needs aged between 18 months and 18 years. They were consecutively enrolled at the Rare Disease Unit, Paediatrics Department, Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli‐IRCCS, Rome. For test–retest reliability, 50 caregivers filled in the PEDI‐EAT‐10 questionnaire for a second time after a 2‐week period. Construct validity was established by comparing data obtained from patients with data from healthy participants (n = 200). The study was approved by the local ethics committee. Outcomes & Results: Psychometric data obtained from patients (104 M; mean age = 8.08 ± 4.85 years; median age = 7 years) showed satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.89) and test–retest reliability (Pearson r = 0.99; Spearman r = 0.96). A total of 30% of children were classified as having a high risk of penetration/aspiration. The Italian PEDI‐EAT‐10 mean total score of the clinical group was significantly different from that resulting from healthy participants. Conclusions & Implications: The PEDI‐EAT‐10 was successfully translated into Italian, validated and found to be a reliable one‐page rapid screening tool to identify dysphagia in children and adolescents with special needs. Ecologists and evolutionary biologists are regularly tasked with the comparison of binary data across groups. There is, however, some discussion in the biostatistics literature about the best methodology for the analysis of data comprising binary explanatory and response variables forming a 2 × 2 contingency table.We assess several methodologies for the analysis of 2 × 2 contingency tables using a simulation scheme of different sample sizes with outcomes evenly or unevenly distributed between groups. Specifically, we assess the commonly recommended logistic (generalised linear model [GLM]) regression analysis, the classical Pearson chi‐squared test and four conventional alternatives (Yates' correction, Fisher's exact, exact unconditional and mid‐p), as well as the widely discouraged linear model (LM) regression.We found that both LM and GLM analyses provided unbiased estimates of the difference in proportions between groups. LM and GLM analyses also provided accurate standard errors and confidence intervals when the experimental design was balanced. When the experimental design was unbalanced, sample size was small, and one of the two groups had a probability close to 1 or 0, LM analysis could substantially over‐ or under‐represent statistical uncertainty. For null hypothesis significance testing, the performance of the chi‐squared test and LM analysis were almost identical. Across all scenarios, both had high power to detect non‐null effects and reject false positives. By contrast, the GLM analysis was underpowered when using z‐based p‐values, in particular when one of the two groups had a probability near 1 or 0. The GLM using the LRT had better power to detect non‐null results.Our simulation results suggest that, wherever a chi‐squared test would be recommended, a linear regression is a suitable alternative for the analysis of 2 × 2 contingency table data. When researchers opt for more sophisticated procedures, we provide R functions to calculate the standard error of a difference between two probabilities from a Bernoulli GLM output using the delta method. We also explore approaches to compliment GLM analysis of 2 × 2 contingency tables with credible intervals on the probability scale. Agricultural experiments are often laid out as blocked designs such as the randomized complete block designs (RCBD) or split‐plot designs (SPD). Statistical analysis should follow the principle "analyze as randomized." However, block effects are often not modeled or are typically dropped from the model when non‐significant. Additionally, if linear mixed models are fitted by REML with a non‐negativity constraint on all variances, an implicit model reduction occurs when the variance estimate for random block effects becomes negative in the final iteration. This study investigates the consequences of these types of model reduction on the Type I error rate and the standard error of a treatment difference (s.e.d.) by Monte Carlo simulation for experiments designed as RCBD or SPD. The number of blocks and treatments and the ratio of block or main‐plot error variance to residual error variance were varied, resulting in 27 scenarios. Dropping the block effect by default resulted in deflated Type I error rates and increased the s.e.d. in the RCBD. For the SPD, Type I error rates were inflated for the sub‐plot factor and the main‐plot‐by‐sub‐plot factor interaction, but were deflated for the main‐plot factor. Adverse effects of model reduction were reduced, but did not vanish completely, for model reduction based on significance testing. Implicit model reduction led to inflated Type I error rates for small variance ratios and small datasets. We conclude that block effects as well as main‐plot error effects need to be included by all means in statistical analysis. Core Ideas: Do not drop block effect or main‐plot error effects in the analysis of designed experiments.Dropping the block or main‐plot error effect in blocked experiments causes bias in Type I error rates.Dropping of the block effects can occur implicitly in REML‐based analysis if the true block variance is relatively small.Drop block effects only when non‐significant avoids most adverse effects on Type I error rates. Aim: This Study Aimed to Assess the Intention to Have a Third Child among Millennial Parents (25–40 years old) with Two Children in a City in Eastern China and to Explore the Influencing Factors Related to Fertility Intention. Design: A cross‐sectional design study. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to enrol participants of childbearing age who visited two tertiary hospitals in Hang zhou, a city in eastern China, from June 2021 to March 2022. We conducted a face‐to‐face questionnaire survey with 520 participants and calculated the prevalence of intention‐related factors. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse the independent influencing factors of fertility intention. Results: In total, 105 (20.2%) participants had the intention to have a third child. The results showed that 'employment status', 'age', 'reasons for wanting a third child', the considered 'biggest barrier to having a third child', 'views on the three‐child policy', 'desired free services', 'supporting work policies' and 'assistance policies' were significant independent influencing factors of intention to have a third child (p‐value < 0.05). The intention of the participants 'over 30 years old' was 2.466 times that of those '30 years old and under', and 'older age/personal health status' was considered the 'biggest barrier to having a third child'. Regarding policy and social reasons, the participants who need 'medical assistance' policy negatively affect the intention to have a third child (OR = 0.453, 95% CI = 0.247–0.830). Implications for Healthcare/Nursing: Nursing plays an important role in health promotion. Nurses can help couples make wise decisions about fertility by providing professional consultation, education, evaluation and support. They can also provide corresponding nursing and guidance to improve couples' health quality and overall reproductive success. Conclusions: The general level of intention to have a third child of Millennial parents with two children is still low. The participants who are 'housewives/househusbands', 'over 30 years old', and satisfied with the state of 'medical assistance' have higher fertility intentions. Human anterior gradient‐2 (AGR2) has been implicated in carcinogenesis of various solid tumours, but the expression data in prostate cancer are contradictory regarding its prognostic value. The objective of this study is to evaluate the expression of AGR2 in a large prostate cancer cohort and to correlate it with clinicopathological data. AGR2 protein expression was analysed immunohistochemically in 1023 well‐characterized prostate cancer samples with a validated antibody. AGR2 expression levels in carcinomas were compared with matched tissue samples of adjacent normal glands. AGR2 expression levels were dichotomized and tested for statistical significance. Increased AGR2 expression was found in 93.5% of prostate cancer cases. AGR2 levels were significantly higher in prostate cancer compared with normal prostate tissue. A gradual loss of AGR2 expression was associated with increasing tumour grade (ISUP), and AGR2 expression is inversely related to patient survival, however, multivariable significance is not achieved. AGR2 is clearly upregulated in the majority of prostate cancer cases, yet a true diagnostic value appears unlikely. Parkinsonism‐dystonia‐2 PKDYS2 is an autosomal‐recessive disorder, caused by pathogenic biallelic variants in SLC18A2 which encodes the vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT2) protein. PKDYS2 is a treatable neurotransmitter disease, and the rate of diagnosis of this disorder has increased significantly with the advance of genomic technologies. Our report highlights a novel pathologic variant in one case and a novel finding on MRI Brain, consisting of a normal symmetrical signal intensity in the dorsal brainstem and pons, and it substantiates the significance of genetic testing in the evaluation of children with developmental delays, which influences clinical decisions to enhance patient outcomes. Identification of the source of plantwide oscillations is a challenging problem, even with the availability of big data. Causality analysis is often used to construct causal maps and obtain a sequence of fault propagation for an in‐depth investigation. The reliability of the widely used Granger causality depends on the quality of the observed data. But since real‐world industrial data are prone to sensor errors, their accuracy is significantly compromised. Experienced engineers possess years of valuable process knowledge which when introduced into the modeling can significantly reduce the over‐dependence on data. In this article, we propose a novel approach to efficiently amalgamate expert information with the observed data to reconstruct causal maps. A new surrogate‐data‐based approach to test the significance of the causal relations obtained for oscillatory data is also proposed in this article. Qualitative interactions occur when a treatment effect or measure of association varies in sign by sub‐population. Of particular interest in many biomedical settings are absence/presence qualitative interactions, which occur when an effect is present in one sub‐population but absent in another. Absence/presence interactions arise in emerging applications in precision medicine, where the objective is to identify a set of predictive biomarkers that have prognostic value for clinical outcomes in some sub‐population but not others. They also arise naturally in gene regulatory network inference, where the goal is to identify differences in networks corresponding to diseased and healthy individuals, or to different subtypes of disease; such differences lead to identification of network‐based biomarkers for diseases. In this paper, we argue that while the absence/presence hypothesis is important, developing a statistical test for this hypothesis is an intractable problem. To overcome this challenge, we approximate the problem in a novel inference framework. In particular, we propose to make inferences about absence/presence interactions by quantifying the relative difference in effect size, reasoning that when the relative difference is large, an absence/presence interaction occurs. Background: The control‐value theory of achievement emotions postulates that it is possible to affect achievement emotions by decreasing or increasing control and value appraisals. This implies that changes in the latter should result in changes in the former. However, the assumption has been rarely tested. Aims: This study aimed at verifying whether changes in control and value appraisals – two proximal antecedents of achievement emotions – predicted changes in learning enjoyment over the course of lower secondary school. Moreover, since studying changes requires knowledge of their overall pattern, it also investigated the developmental trajectories of the three student characteristics. Sample: The study used longitudinal data of 5125 German students gathered between Grades 5 and 9, four measurement occasions in total. Methods: The hypotheses were tested using univariate and multivariate latent change score models. Results: The analyses revealed decreases in control and value appraisals and learning enjoyment between Grades 5 and 9. Moreover, the decreases in control and value appraisals predicted the decreases in learning enjoyment. Conclusions: The study provides support for the change–change assumption, which is one of the key but under‐researched elements of the control‐value theory of achievement emotions. As such, it suggests that alleviating the decrease in control and value appraisals may mitigate the decrease in learning enjoyment. Background: In proton therapy, a highly steep distal dose penumbra can be utilized for dose conformity, given the Bragg peak characteristic of protons. However, the location of the Bragg peak in patients (i.e., the beam range) is very sensitive to range uncertainty. Even a small shift of beam range can produce a significant variation of delivered dose to tumor and normal tissues, thus degrading treatment quality and threatening patient safety. This range uncertainty issue, therefore, is one of the important aspects to be managed in proton therapy. Purpose: For better management of range uncertainty, range verification has been widely studied, and prompt gamma imaging (PGI) is considered one of the promising methods in that effort. In this context, a PGI system named the gamma electron vertex imaging (GEVI) system was developed and recently upgraded for application to pencil‐beam scanning (PBS) proton therapy. Here, we report the first experimental results using the therapeutic spot scanning proton beams. Methods: A homogeneous slab phantom and an anthropomorphic phantom were employed. Spherical and cubic planning target volumes (PTVs) were defined. Various range shift scenarios were introduced. Prompt gamma (PG) measurement was synchronized with beam irradiation. The measured PG distributions were aggregated to improve the PG statistics. The range shift was estimated based on the relative change of the centroid in the measured PG distribution. The estimated range shifts were analyzed by range shift mapping, confidence interval (CI) estimation, and statistical hypothesis testing. Results: The range shift mapping results showed an obvious measured range shift tendency following the true shift values. However, some fluctuations were found for spots that had still‐low PG statistics after spot aggregation. The 99% CI distributions showed clearly distributed range shift measurement data. The overall accuracy and precision for all investigated scenarios were 0.36 and 0.20 mm, respectively. The results of one‐sample t‐tests confirmed that every shift scenario could be observed up to 1 mm of shift. The ANOVA results proved that the measured range shift data could be discriminated from one another, except for 16 (of 138) comparison cases having 1–2 mm shift differences. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the feasibility of the GEVI system for measurement of range shift in spot scanning proton therapy. Our experimental results showed that the proton beam can be measured up to 1 mm of range shift with high accuracy and precision. We believe that the GEVI system is one of the most promising PGI systems for in vivo range verification. Further research for application to more various cases and patient treatments is planned. Although log‐likelihood is widely used in model selection, the log‐likelihood ratio has had few applications in this area. We develop a log‐likelihood ratio based method for selecting regression models by focusing on the set of models deemed plausible by the likelihood ratio test. We show that when the sample size is large and the significance level of the test is small, there is a high probability that the smallest model in this set is the true model; thus, we select this smallest model. The significance level of the test serves as a tuning parameter of this method. We consider three levels of this parameter in a simulation study and compare this method with the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC) to demonstrate its excellent accuracy and adaptability to different sample sizes. Background: Dysarthria, aphasia and executive processes have been examined for their role in producing impaired communicative competence post traumatic brain injury (TBI). Less understood is the role of emotional dysregulation, that is, apathy and disinhibition, and social cognition, that is, reading and interpreting social cues. Methods & Procedures: In this study, we examined 49 adults with moderate to severe TBI and 18 neurologically healthy adults. We hypothesised that apathy and disinhibition would predict communication outcomes as would social cognition. We also predicted that apathy and disinhibition would influence social cognition. Communication outcomes were measured by the La Trobe Communication Questionnaire (LCQ) and the Social Skills Questionnaire‐TBI (SSQ‐TBI). Apathy and disinhibition were measured by the Frontal Systems Behavior Scale (FrSBe). We measured four aspects of social cognition: emotion perception and theory of mind using The Awareness of Social Inference Test (TASIT) and the Complex Audio‐Visual Evaluation of Affect Test (CAVEAT), empathy using the Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE) and the Balanced Emotional Empathy Scale (BEES), and alexithymia using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS‐20) and the Bermond–Vorst Alexithymia Questionnaire. Outcomes & Results: Consistent with predictions, the LCQ and SSQ‐TBI were associated with disinhibition and the LCQ was also associated with apathy. The LCQ was associated with the full range of social cognition constructs although the SSQ‐TBI was not. Finally, apathy and disinhibition predicted a number of social cognition measures. Conclusions and Implications: These results are discussed in relation to understanding the nature of communication disorders following TBI and how they are measured, as well as the interrelation between emotion dysregulation and social cognition. What this study adds: What is already known on this subject: The role of emotional dysregulation and social cognition in producing impaired communicative competence post traumatic brain injury (TBI) is not well understood. Although most adults with severe TBI have minimal or possibly no language impairment, they often struggle with functional communication in everyday situations. Many have been reported to be overtalkative, insensitive, childish and self‐centred, displaying an inappropriate level of self‐disclosure and making tangential and irrelevant comments. Conversely, some speakers with TBI have been noted to have impoverished communication, producing little language either spontaneously or in response to the speaker's questions and prompts. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: We found that both apathy and disinhibition were strongly associated with the Latrobe Communication Questionnaire both empirically and conceptually, despite the LCQ being developed from a different, pragmatic orientation. Disinhibition was also associated with the Social Skills Questionnaire for TBI. We also found that poor social cognition scores predicted communication difficulties. Finally, we found that behavioural dysregulation itself, i.e., both apathy and disinhibition, predicted poor social cognition. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: Our findings highlight the central role that apathy and disinhibition play in both communication and social cognition. We survey 20,439 estimates from 64 distinct research areas to assess power, bias and statistical significance in industrial relations research. The average estimate published in industrial relations research lacks adequate power; average power is 33 per cent, and median power is only 14 per cent, much lower than the conventional 80 per cent standard. Low power means that industrial relations researchers will find it more difficult to detect important associations pertaining to workplace relations. Low power also leads to exaggerated research findings. We find substantial publication bias in industrial relations research, though nearly half of the research areas have little or no bias. This study examined the influence of morphological density on reading comprehension in Arabic and whether this influence differs between typical and children with reading disabilities. Morphological density in Arabic is a text feature that refers to using bound morphemes, creating dense words with more morphemes. The participants were 182 fifth‐graders, both typical and children with reading disabilities. Children were assessed in reading comprehension by reading texts with low‐ or high‐morphological density. Findings revealed that overall morphological density impacted reading comprehension performance. That is, scores were found to be higher while reading low‐density text than high‐density text. Moreover, an interaction of morphological density condition by reading proficiency showed no density text effect among typical developing readers. However, a difference was obtained in the children with reading disabilities whereas low‐morphological density text score was higher than the score of high‐morphological density text. The study highlights the importance of morphological awareness in reading comprehension in Arabic, extending that morphological density plays an important role in this process. The results are discussed in light of the lexical quality hypothesis and simple view of reading model. The findings imply the need of explicit morphological instruction for dense morphological forms. Problem: Existing bullying research among Arab Americans is limited, focusing mainly on school‐age adolescents and victimization. There is a lack of studies that examine retrospective bullying perpetration, bullying victimization, and physical fights during high school and their effect on current Arab American college students' stress and health outcomes. This study examines if bullying perpetration, bullying victimization, and physical fights during high school predict current stress and the physical and mental health of Arab American college students. In addition, we examined if perceived psychological stress mediates the relationships between bullying and fighting involvement and health. Methods: One hundred and sixty‐two undergraduate Arab American college students were recruited from a Midwestern university and completed self‐report measures of bullying, stress, and health (both physical and mental). Findings: Controlling for demographic variables, only high school victimization was significantly associated with current stress and physical and mental health. Stress fully mediated the relationship between victimization and health (both physical and mental). Conclusions: Victimization during high school years may result in serious physical and mental health consequences during college years. However, perpetration and fighting may not have similar effects. Addressing stress among bullying victims may reduce the negative impact of this experience on immigrant Arab American college students. Implications for practice and future research are discussed. Introduction: Ventilator‐associated pneumonia (VAP) is a hospital‐acquired infection with high mortality, and remains a challenge for clinical treatment. Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) was associated with worse outcomes in several diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mean RDW values, changes in RDW (delta RDW), and in‐hospital mortality among patients with VAP. Methods: In the present study, we enrolled 1266 VAP patients from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC‐IV) database. All patients were categorized into low group, medium group, and high group according to tertiles of mean RDW values. The primary outcome was all‐cause in‐hospital mortality. Univariate logistic regression analysis, multivariate logistic regression analysis, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) curve were performed to determine the association between mean RDW values and in‐hospital mortality in VAP. Moreover, RCS curve was plotted to explore the dose–response relationship between delta RDW and in‐hospital mortality in VAP. Results: Among the VAP patients included in the study, the in‐hospital mortality was 20.85% with 264 non‐survivors and 1002 survivors. The non‐survivors exhibited significantly higher mean RDW values and delta RDW values compared to survivors. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that mean RDW values were positively associated with in‐hospital mortality in VAP after adjusting for relevant covariates. The RCS curve demonstrated a dose–response relationship between mean RDW and the mortality in VAP. Moreover, a linear relationship was observed between delta RDW and in‐hospital mortality in VAP. Conclusion: Higher mean RDW values were significantly associated with an increased risk of in‐hospital mortality in VAP. Additionally, a linear relationship was found between delta RDW values and in‐hospital mortality. Background Study: The research discusses the need for a paradigm shift in engineering education current practices to accommodate the digital native students. The paper emphasizes the importance of integrating disruptive technologies, namely Virtual Reality (VR) through Head Mounted Displays VR (HMD VR) and Desktop Based VR (DB VR) and comparing it with the traditional teaching methods. The research focuses on second‐year undergraduate students enrolled in a concrete structures course. Objectives: The objective of the study is to analyse the impact of DB VR and HMD VR on students' motivation, performance and workload in comparison with traditional 2D drawings. The study also aims to investigate how simulation sickness and system usability could impact students' motivation and performance when interpreting concrete structures. Methods: The study divided second‐year civil engineering students into three groups, 2D, DB VR and HMD VR. The performance and motivation levels of students were assessed based on the number of mistakes identified and an intrinsic motivation survey. Furthermore, data on system usability and simulation sickness were collected. Spearman rank correlation was conducted to analyse the relationships between the variables tested. Results: The results have shown that students' motivation and performance were much higher when using VR in general and HMD VR specifically, students' efficiency and accuracy were also observed. On the other hand, usability was found to be moderately correlated with motivation, with students rating HMD VR as the most usable approach. A moderate inverse correlation was observed between simulation sickness and motivation, indicating that higher simulation sickness led to lower motivation levels. Conclusion: The study concludes that integrating VR in general, DB VR, or HMD VR into a concrete structures course for undergraduate students can significantly improve students' performance and motivation. Furthermore, enhancing usability of any of the methods used can also improve the performance and motivation. On the other hand, simulation sickness inversely affects motivation and performance, therefore, VR developers and educators should not neglect it. Background: The neurobehavioral health impairments associated with prenatal alcohol exposure are now known to persist through adulthood. However, little is known about how these impairments affect individuals' parenting abilities and the neurobehavioral health of their offspring. This study compares parents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) with socioeconomically matched, nonexposed parents on measures of parenting and family support and assesses the neurobehavioral health of the children in both groups. Methods: Forty‐nine parent–child dyads were recruited from a longitudinal cohort of low socioeconomic status. Measures included the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire, Family Support Scale, an in‐depth psychosocial history, the Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC; parent and child reports), the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), a screening psychiatric evaluation of the child, the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery for Children, The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales‐Third Edition caregiver rating form, and the Traumatic Events Screening Inventory (parent and child reports). Results: Cognitive functioning was impaired for both offspring of parents with FASD (x¯ = 81.1, SD = 13.0) and control parents (x¯ = 79.9, SD = 16.1), but despite similar impairments, children of parents with FASD were less likely to have an Individualized Education Plan than controls. Adaptive functioning was adequate for both groups (x¯ = 92.1, SD = 15.4 in exposed vs. x¯ = 94.3, SD = 12.3 in controls) and CBCL and PSC scores in both groups were within normal limits. Parents in both groups showed a predominantly authoritative parenting style. Despite a similar frequency of adverse childhood experiences in both groups, parents with FASD were less likely to recognize their child's adverse experiences. Conclusion: Parents with FASD display notable strengths including a predominantly authoritative parenting style. However, parents with FASD underrecognize child trauma and underutilize developmental services compared to socioeconomically matched controls, despite similar neurocognitive impairments. Impairments in adaptive functioning in parents with FASD may translate into difficulties with child–parent communication and limit both insight into neurobehavioral problems and advocacy skills. Purpose: Knowledge‐based planning (KBP) aims to automate and standardize treatment planning. New KBP users are faced with many questions: How much does model size matter, and are multiple models needed to accommodate specific physician preferences? In this study, six head‐and‐neck KBP models were trained to address these questions. Methods: The six models differed in training size and plan composition: The KBPFull (n = 203 plans), KBP101 (n = 101), KBP50 (n = 50), and KBP25 (n = 25) were trained with plans from two head‐and‐neck physicians. KBPA and KBPB each contained n = 101 plans from only one physician, respectively. An independent set of 39 patients treated to 6000–7000 cGy by a third physician was re‐planned with all KBP models for validation. Standard head‐and‐neck dosimetric parameters were used to compare resulting plans. KBPFull plans were compared to the clinical plans to evaluate overall model quality. Additionally, clinical and KBPFull plans were presented to another physician for blind review. Dosimetric comparison of KBPFull against KBP101, KBP50, and KBP25 investigated the effect of model size. Finally, KBPA versus KBPB tested whether training KBP models on plans from one physician only influences the resulting output. Dosimetric differences were tested for significance using a paired t‐test (p < 0.05). Results: Compared to manual plans, KBPFull significantly increased PTV Low D95% and left parotid mean dose but decreased dose cochlea, constrictors, and larynx. The physician preferred the KBPFull plan over the manual plan in 20/39 cases. Dosimetric differences between KBPFull, KBP101, KBP50, and KBP25 plans did not exceed 187 cGy on aggregate, except for the cochlea. Further, average differences between KBPA and KBPB were below 110 cGy. Conclusions: Overall, all models were shown to produce high‐quality plans. Differences between model outputs were small compared to the prescription. This indicates only small improvements when increasing model size and minimal influence of the physician when choosing treatment plans for training head‐and‐neck KBP models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of Monte‐Carlo (MC) p$$ p $$‐values when testing the significance of a large number of hypotheses is now commonplace. In large‐scale hypothesis testing, we will typically encounter at least somep$$ p $$‐values near the threshold of significance, which require a larger number of MC replicates than p$$ p $$‐values that are far from the threshold. As a result, some incorrect conclusions can be reached due to MC error alone; for hypotheses near the threshold, even a very large number (eg, 106$$ 1{0}^6 $$) of MC replicates may not be enough to guarantee conclusions reached using MC p$$ p $$‐values. Gandy and Hahn (GH)6‐8 have developed the only method that directly addresses this problem. They defined a Monte‐Carlo error rate (MCER) to be the probability that any decisions on accepting or rejecting a hypothesis based on MC p$$ p $$‐values are different from decisions based on idealp$$ p $$‐values; their method then makes decisions by controlling the MCER. Unfortunately, the GH method is frequently very conservative, often making no rejections at all and leaving a large number of hypotheses "undecided". In this article, we propose MERIT, a method for large‐scale MC hypothesis testing that also controls the MCER but is more statistically efficient than the GH method. Through extensive simulation studies, we demonstrate that MERIT controls the MCER while making more decisions that agree with the ideal p$$ p $$‐values than GH does.
