Skin cancer and other skin-related inflammatory pathologies are rising due to heightened exposure to environmental pollutants and carcinogens. In this context, natural products and repurposed compounds hold promise as novel therapeutic and preventive agents. Strengthening the skin's antioxidant defense mechanisms is pivotal in neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitigating oxidative stress. Sunset Yellow (SY) exhibits immunomodulatory characteristics, evidenced by its capacity to partially inhibit the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, regulate immune cell populations, and modulate the activation of lymphocytes. This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant and anti-genotoxic properties of SY using in-silico, in vitro, and physiochemical test systems, and to further explore its potential role in 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene (DMBA)/ 12-o-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced two-stage skin carcinogenesis. In vitro experiments showed that pre-treatment of SY significantly enhanced the cell viability of HaCaT cells when exposed to tertiary-Butyl Hydrogen Peroxide (tBHP). This increase was accompanied by reduced ROS levels, restoration of mitochondrial membrane potential, and notable reduction in DNA damage in (SY + tBHP) treated cells. Mechanistic investigations using DPPH chemical antioxidant activity test and potentiometric titrations confirmed SY's antioxidant properties, with a standard reduction potential ( E o ) of 0.211 V. Remarkably, evaluating the effect of topical application of SY in DMBA/TPA-induced two-step skin carcinogenesis model revealed dose-dependent decreases in tumor latency, incidence, yield, and burden over 21-weeks. Furthermore, computational analysis and experimental validations identified GSK3β, KEAP1 and EGFR as putative molecular targets of SY. Collectively, our findings reveal that SY enhances cellular antioxidant defenses, exhibits anti-genotoxic effects, and functions as a promising chemopreventive agent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prospective applications of porous zirconium phosphate (ZrP) with a high surface area for adsorption, acid catalysis, and proton-conducting devices have drawn much attention. The presence of PO4 and P-OH groups on porous ZrP is responsible for Brønsted's acidic properties, and the Zr4+centers provide Lewis acidic properties, making them a fascinating functional material. The presence of nanopores is a vital characteristic of porous ZrP materials, which helps in the molecular-level interactions of active sites with reactants. The properties of these materials, such as structure, porosity, and degree of crystallinity, can be controlled by varying the synthetic conditions. This review will discuss the general synthesis approaches for manufacturing porous ZrP materials along with the benefits and drawbacks. Based on their components and various applications, current development trends in porous ZrP materials will be explained. Multigrain soy enriched noodles were formulated from the blend of refined wheat (62.2%), sorghum (24.6%) and soy flour (13.2%) which might be used as a complementary food to meet the nutritional requirements of primary and upper primary class children as recommended in Mid-Day Meal scheme by Government of India. Multigrain noodles were evaluated for nutritional composition, antioxidant activity and in vitro protein digestibility in comparison with refined wheat noodles and Mid-Day Meal recipes. Results indicated that multigrain noodles had significantly (P ≤ 0.05) higher protein (19.10 ± 0.63%) and dietary fibre (5.48 ± 0.04%) than refined wheat noodles (14.82 ± 0.95%, 0.00) and Mid-Day Meal recipes. Developed noodles revealed good total phenolic content, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity and higher protein digestibility (85.57 ± 1.42 mg Gallic Acid Equivalent/100 g, 19.64 ± 0.20% and 95.57 ± 0.33%). The production cost of multigrain noodles was found to be lower ($1.57/kg) lower than conventional noodles. Hence, these protein-fibre rich noodles when offered in 115.5 g (primary level) and 179.75 g (upper primary level) packaging may substantially improve the nutrition of school children. Comparison of Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), multigrain noodles could satisfy 20.5% of the energy and 55.3% of the protein requirements at primary level, for upper primary level; they will meet 25.5% energy and 63.2% protein requirement. Owing to high dietary fibre, the developed noodles may be claimed as a fibre-rich food, which provides various health benefits associated with consumption of dietary fibre rich product. In past decade, wireless sensor networks have gained attention by researchers, manufacturers as well as the users for remotely monitoring tasks and effective data gathering in diverse environment. The wireless sensor nodes are tiny battery powered devices having limited lifetime, hence for longevity and reliability, the foremost concern is minimizing energy consumption and maximizing network lifetime while designing protocols and applications. In this paper, we review the main design issues based on the model of wireless sensor networks: structure-free and structured for data collection and aggregation where role of clustering and routing is discussed for energy conservation and enhancing network lifetime. These design strategies are the foundation of any networking protocol from the energy saving point of view. A comprehensive tabular overview of different approaches under structure-free and structured wireless sensor networks for data collection and aggregation, clustering and routing is presented with key issues. The DNA topoisomerase (topo) II of chloroquine-sensitive and chloroquine-resistant strains of the rodent malaria parasite P. berghei were utilized as a target for testing of antimalarial compounds. Compounds belonging to the bischalcone and chalcone series significantly inhibited enzyme activity and percentage parasitaemia of chloroquine-sensitive and chloroquine-resistant strains of P. berghei. Compounds 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, and 2c showed 100% inhibition while compounds 2h and 2i showed 60% and 63% inhibition of topoisomerase II activity of the chloroquine-sensitive strain, respectively. Compounds 2a, 2b, and 2d significantly inhibited the topo II activity of chloroquine-resistant strain. Compounds 2g and 2e specifically inhibited the topo II activity of the chloroquine-resistant strain of P. berghei with no effect on the chloroquine-sensitive strain. The in vitro topo II inhibition by chalcone and bischalcone analogs can be correlated with their in vivo antimalarial activity, as compounds 2c and 2h inhibited both in vitro activity of topo II and in vivo parasitaemia of the chloroquine-sensitive strain of P. berghei. In the chloroquine-resistant strain, compounds 2c, 2e, 2g, and 2i inhibited activity against both in vitro topo II and parasitaemia in vivo. The significant inhibition of topo II in the chloroquine-resistant strain by some of the analogs suggests the utilization of these structures for the synthesis of compounds active against chloroquine-resistant malarial parasites. The radical copolymerization of α-terpineol with methyl-methacrylate in xylene at 80±0.1 ○C for 50 minutes in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) follows ideal kinetics and results in the formation of a functional and random copolymer. The activation energy is 33 KJ/mole. The IR spectrum and NMR spectra of the copolymer(s) shows the bands at 1750 and 3400 cm−1 for ester group of methylmethacrylate and alcoholic group of α-terpineol and peaks at 3 to 4δ for methoxy group and at 6.5 to 7.5δ due to alcoholic group of methylmethacrylate and α-terpineol repectively. The values of reactivity ratios, calculated by Kelen–Tüdos method, are r1 (MMA) = 0.18 and r2 (α-terpineol) = 0.046. The Alfrey-Price; Q–e parameters for α-terpineol has been calculated as 0.149 and 2.486. The mechanism of copolymerization has been elucidated and it is concluded that the double bond present in the monocyclic ring of α-terpineol is an active site for copolymerization and the alcoholic group of α-terpineol remain to give functional copolymer.
