Towards building new, friendlier human-computer interaction and multimedia interactive services systems, we developed a image processing system which consists of the face detection module, which first determines automatically whether or not there are any faces in given images and, if so, returns the location and extent of each face and a facial expression classification module, which allow the classification of several facial expressions. In order to increase the accuracy of the facial expression classification module, we developed four different classifiers, namely:(1) Multilayer perceptrons, (2) Radial basis networks, (3) K-nearest neighbor classifiers and, (4) Support vector machines. In this paper we make an evaluation of performance of these classifiers versus the human΄s expression recognition performance for five expression: `neutral΄, `happy΄, `surprised΄, `angry΄ and `disgusted΄. This chapter presents an overview of multimedia services in intelligent environments and outlines the contents of the book. Multimedia services is the term chosen to describe services which rely on the coordinated and secure storage, processing, transmission, and retrieval of multiple forms of information. The term refers to various levels of data processing and includes applications areas such as digital libraries, e-learning, e-government, e-commerce, e-entertainment, e-health, or e-legal services. Besides the introductory chapter, this book includes 14 additional chapters. Nine of these chapters attempt to cover various aspects of low level data processing in multimedia services in intelligent environments, such as storage, recognition and classification, transmission, information retrieval, and information securing. Four additional chapters present intermediate level multimedia services in noise and hearing monitoring and measuring, augmented reality, automated lecture rooms and rights management and licensing. This paper describes a hybrid intelligent medical tutor for atheromatosis. The tutor is called INTATU (INTelligent Atheromatosis TUtor). INTATU provides adaptive tutoring on Atheromatosis to various classes of users depending on their interests, background medical knowledge and computer skills. The adaptivity results from user modelling that is based on stereotypical knowledge about the potential users (patients, patients' relatives, doctors, medical students, etc.). A knowledge-based authoring tool and its domain-knowledge acquisition capabilities are described. The authoring tool is called INMA and assists human tutors to create their own Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) for music education. Learner modeling in the resulting ITSs is primarily based on a cognitive theory that models human reasoning and is called Human Plausible Reasoning. The particular theory makes use of a very detailed knowledge representation of the domain of the part of music to be taught in the form of hierarchies, so that similarities, dissimilarities, generalizations and specializations among the tutoring concepts may be inferred. INMA incorporates a special knowledge acquisition component that can assist instructional designers on the task of constructing the music hierarchies required.
