Introduction: Cutaneous lipohypertrophy (LH) is a thickened, "rubbery" lesion in the subcutaneous tissue following multiple injections performed at the same site, i.e., an incorrect injection technique. It is widespread, averaging 47% of insulin patients worldwide, and has severe direct and indirect consequences. Direct consequences consist mainly of poor metabolic control and frequent hypoglycemic events (HYPOs), and indirect ones of markedly increased healthcare costs related to hospital access due to acute events and long-term disease complications. This observation also holds for Italy, despite the National Health System organization expecting every patient with diabetes to undergo a series of visits by different care team members, each performing a specific treatment/education task. Indeed, the recent literature points to poor awareness of LH relevance and metabolic consequences among doctors from general and diabetic hospital wards, with educational deficiencies on correct injection practice in nurses too. The aim was to establish if, to what extent, and by whom they had received training on correct insulin injection techniques, and how many initially received notions had persisted over time. Methods: We investigated the possible causes of such a failure from the point of view of 1160 insulin-requiring subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2DM), reporting for the first time to specialized diabetic structures through a validated questionnaire and, in the same patients, we searched for LH by inspection/palpation according to international guidelines, further confirmed by ultrasound scans. We then analyzed differences in education and injecting behavior between subjects classified as LH+ or LH− depending on the presence or absence of LH lesions. Results: We documented significant educational gaps, with 50% of patients failing to refer to healthcare professionals and relying on their peers with diabetes, thought to be more experienced in 15% of the cases. Seventy-five percent of LH− patients received education from healthcare providers, while 90% of LH+ learned from another patient or could not remember how they knew, and 68% of LH+ versus 52% of LH− (p < 0.01) patients had failed to receive training on injection techniques by healthcare providers. All of this enabled the most disabling features of diabetes from the very beginning of the disease history. Conclusions: This study documents, from the patients' point of view, that educational gaps are significant and that, even in initially trained subjects, education on correct injection techniques has a fleeting effect if not regularly recalled. Therefore, to rehabilitate LH+ patients as soon as possible and prevent LH− patients from inadvertently slipping into the other group, there is an urgent need to educate doctors and nurses repeatedly on the importance of correctly injecting insulin to improve patients' knowledge and skills. New technologies (NT) are increasingly used in Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions in people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We conducted a scoping review to describe OT interventions investigated in scientific literature which use NT in children and adolescents with ASD. Two authors independently searched the scientific databases PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science, carried out a peer-review screening of articles and extracted data. Twenty studies met the inclusion criteria. OT interventions lasted between 1 week and 12 months, consisted of between 1 session per day and 5 sessions per week, were carried out exclusively by an occupational therapist, and the most used NT was the computer (n = 12). Purpose: There has been growing amount of evidence supporting the benefits of physical activity (PA) on oncological patients’ cancer-related health outcomes. Although guidelines on cancer rehabilitation are widely available, the varying quality and practical applicability limited the clinical application of PA recommendations. To assist the future development of guidelines, in this systematic review, we evaluated the quality and applicability of current cancer rehabilitation guidelines with PA recommendations and synthesized PA recommendations for the oncological population. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, PEDro, EMBASE, and guideline repositories to identify guidelines with PA recommendations for cancer patients from 1 May 2016 to 1 June 2022. The quality of included guidelines was appraised using the tools “Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II” (AGREE II) and AGREE-REX (Recommendation Excellence). PA recommendations were synthesized from the guidelines. Results: Sixteen guidelines were extracted. The AGREE II domain “clarity of presentation” obtained the highest score, while “applicability” received the lowest, ranging from 33.33% to 98.58%. The AGREE-REX domains “values and preferences” and “implementability” generally scored lower and ranged from 45.83% to 74.17% and 55% to 88.33%, respectively. Eight high-quality guidelines were identified, and the included PA recommendations were extracted. Conclusion: There were some disparities in the quality of the included guidelines. Methodological weaknesses were commonly observed in domains “applicability,” “values and preferences,” and “implementability”; particular attention should be given to these domains when developing future guidelines. Furthermore, this analysis indicated that more rigorous, high-quality studies are needed to generate evidence for supporting PA recommendations and provide guidance on research gaps in the field of cancer rehabilitation. Purpose: The present study investigated whether the level of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) after finishing oncology treatment was related to higher levels of persistent CRF and its relationship with both functional and psychological disturbances. Second, to identify potential predictors of persistent CRF. Methods: Eighty BC survivors were classified into non-fatigued (≤ 3.9) or fatigued (≥ 4), according to their Piper Fatigue Scale total score after finishing oncology treatment. The time course of fatigue and the impact on its domains, pain, mood state, perceived physical fitness, the level of physical activity, and quality of life were assessed at ≥ 5 years. Results: Women classified as fatigued after finishing oncology treatment had not only a higher prevalence of persistent CRF (41.2%) at the reassessment, but also greater levels of pain (P =.006 to.048) and mood disturbances (P =.007 to.015), and lower levels of physical fitness condition (P =.002 to.039) and quality of life (P <.001 to <.05) over time. Regression analyses revealed that “sadness/depression,” “global health status,” “physical activity level,” and “type of treatment” were significant predictors of persistent CRF (r2 =.692). Purpose: Although over 60% of patients with hematologic cancer report distressing fatigue, they often do not receive recommendations on fatigue management strategies. The aim of this pilot study was to estimate the feasibility of therapeutic education and physical activity (TEPA) by measuring the patients’ adherence to this multidimensional intervention. The secondary aim was to estimate the impact of TEPA on clinical outcomes. Methods: Patients with hematologic cancer participated in this single-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial. The control group (CG) received two educational group sessions on fatigue and physical activity. The experimental group (EG) received the two educational sessions plus six weekly individual sessions aimed at implementing a personalized physical exercise program. Follow-ups were at 1, 3, and 7 months. Results: Forty-six patients referred to chemotherapy were included, corresponding to 54% of recruitment rate. Adherence reached 90% in the EG and 68% in the CG. Most patients (65% in EG and 64% in CG) attended a minimum of 80% of the planned sessions. Overall retention rate was 87% (85% in EG and 91% in CG). No adverse events were registered. No between-group differences were detected in fatigue (FACIT-F), psychological distress (NCCN Distress Thermometer), QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30), or functional exercise capacity (TUG test and 6MWT). Adherence to an active lifestyle, measured by a semi-structured interview, increased from 56.5 to 84% in the EG at 7 months (p = 0.02), whereas it decreased slightly in the CG (from 47.8 to 42.9%). Conclusion: Multidimensional rehabilitation interventions are feasible and safe in this population, and larger trials should focus on the efficacy of such approaches on clinically relevant outcomes. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of a protocol treatment based on inelastic adhesive tape with cetylated fatty acids (CFAs) esters in breast cancer survivors with chronic neck pain. Methods: In this observational study, patients have been visited for chronic neck pain using numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain assessment, Neck Disability Index (NDI) for disability caused by neck pain, and range of movement (ROM) measures for cervical mobility. Scales have been performed at T0, after 15 days of treatment (T1) and successively after 15 days of stop treatment (T2). Patients have been treated with an inelastic adhesive tape with CFA esters (Cetilar® Tape, Pharmanutra Spa, Italy) positioned, 8 h/day for 15 days, on specific anatomic sites (upper trapezius, paravertebral cervical muscles, sub-occipitals, and/or levator scapulae muscles). Results: Forty-five patients were included in the study. A statistically significant reduction in pain has been reported from T0 to T1 and maintained at T2 (p < 0.05); a statistically significant improvement in the mobility of the cervical spine, as evidenced by ROMs, and in disability, as resulted by Neck Disability Index, have been reported from T0 to T1 and maintained at T2; moreover, ROM at T0 correlates inversely and statistically significantly with NRS and all NDI variables at T0, similarly at T1 and T2 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: CFA ester taping is a simple, effective, and side-effect-free treatment in order to reduce pain and improve cervical mobility in breast cancer survivors with chronic neck pain. Background: Gait–balance disturbances are core symptoms of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). However, the rehabilitation effects of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting along with other treatment or no further treatment (natural course [NC]) for iNPH are unknown. Objectives: This study evaluated whether dynamic equilibrium gait training (DEGT) can improve gait–balance functions after CSF shunting of patients with iNPH compared to standard exercise (SE) and NC. Furthermore, it investigated the incidence of falls. Methods: A total of 70 patients with iNPH who underwent CSF shunting were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of DEGT (n = 23), 6 weeks of SE (n = 23), or NC (n = 24). Evaluation was performed at baseline (preoperatively) and at 1 week, 7 weeks (postintervention), and 6 months postoperatively (follow-up). Outcomes were measured using the functional gait assessment (FGA), 10-m walk test, timed up-and-go test, life-space assessment (LSA), and fall incidence. Results: A total of 65 participants completed the study. During the intention-to-treat analysis, the DEGT group demonstrated significant recovery of gait–balance functions according to only the FGA at postintervention and follow-up compared to the SE and NC groups; however, recovery of the SE group did not differ from that of the NC group. The DEGT group had a significantly lower fall incidence than the other groups at follow-up. Significantly better LSA results were observed for all groups at follow-up compared to baseline; however, no difference in LSA results were observed between groups. Clinical trials have demonstrated traditional spa therapy effects in musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This is the first observational study in Italy aimed at evaluating in real-life the short-time effects of spa rehabilitation on pain, mood and quality of life (QoL) among degenerative or post-surgery MSDs patients. Through the involvement of six Italian spa facilities, 160 patients were enrolled; data from 123 patients were finally analysed. Seventy-nine patients (64.3%) accessed the spa for degenerative MSDs, while 44 (35.8%) had a post-surgical condition. All the patients included in the study underwent 12 sessions of water-based exercise (joint exercises, muscle strengthening, gait training, proprioceptive and balance techniques) conducted in thermal or in warm water pools, six sessions per week, for a period of 2 weeks from March 2019 up to October 2019. A group of 45 patients (36.6%) also received traditional thermal therapies, including 12 mud therapy sessions and 12 thermal baths, six times each week, for 2 weeks. Evaluation before and after the treatment included the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), the Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) and the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D). The analysis of the scores reported in the questionnaires after the treatment showed a significant improvement in all the scores evaluated. Comparison between patients that performed water-based exercise protocols alone (group A) and patients that in addition to water exercise performed traditional thermal interventions (group B) showed no statistically significant differences in NRSp, NRSa, NRSm, SF-12 PCS, SF-12 MCS and EQ-5D variations; only NRSa value reduction was lower in group B. Sulphate water was found to be associated with a lower reduction of all the scores considered, when compared to the other water types. Patients with degenerative or post-surgery MSDs showed favourable effects on pain, mood and QoL after water exercise training alone or in combination with traditional thermal therapy. Our research provides the first proof that spa rehabilitation can be in real-life conditions an appropriate alternative strategy for post-orthopaedic surgical outcomes recovery. Sirtuin3 (SIRT3) is a deacetylase that plays an important role in normal physiological activities by regulating a variety of substrates. Considerable evidence has shown that the content and activity of SIRT3 are altered in neurological diseases. Furthermore, SIRT3 affects the occurrence and development of neurological diseases. In most cases, SIRT3 can inhibit clinical manifestations of neurological diseases by promoting autophagy, energy production, and stabilization of mitochondrial dynamics, and by inhibiting neuroinflammation, apoptosis, and oxidative stress (OS). However, SIRT3 may sometimes have the opposite effect. SIRT3 can promote the transfer of microglia. Microglia in some cases promote ischemic brain injury, and in some cases inhibit ischemic brain injury. Moreover, SIRT3 can promote the accumulation of ceramide, which can worsen the damage caused by cerebral ischemia–reperfusion (I/R). This review comprehensively summarizes the different roles and related mechanisms of SIRT3 in neurological diseases. Rehabilitation based on guided walking is effective to recover activity of daily living (ADL) in frail older adults, even octogenarians. However, muscle dysfunction obviously reflects disability, and few studies have focused on ADL recovery by rehabilitation. We employed the state of muscle dysfunctions proposed by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) in 2019 and attempted to clarify the relation between the overlapping dysfunctions and the feasibility of ADL recovery after rehabilitation. In total, 297 frail older patients (the mean age: 82.8 years, 46.1% of patients were male) participated in a walking-guided rehabilitation program to achieve the goal of ambulatory discharge. Muscle dysfunction was categorized by four standardized methods at the start of rehabilitation (grip strength, gait speed, time of five sit-to-stand, and short physical performance battery: SPPB), according to the AWGS proposal. ADLs were monitored by Barthel index before admission, at the start of rehabilitation, and at discharge. At least one dysfunction was present in 95.3% of patients. If a single patient had three or more muscle dysfunction, the ADLs recovery was significantly limited (interaction: p < 0.05). The article presents the study's results of the problem of developing theoretical foundations for assessing the impact of tin ore processing wastes stored in the Vysokogorskoye tailing dump (Primorsky Territory). The object of the study was the natural mining industrial systems of the Kavalerovsky tin ore region of the Primorsky Territory of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD). Based on comprehensive studies of the surface of the tailing dump, an assessment of the scale of environmental damage accumulated in the last century by the closed Khrustalnensky MPP is presented. The peculiarities of the migration of pollutants in environmental objects are studied, and the regularities of their anthropogenic pollution are revealed. The diagnostic framework and the therapeutic management of patients with adult dystonia can represent a challenge for clinical neurologists. The objective of the present paper is to delineate diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations for dystonia provided by a panel of Italian experts afferent to the Italian Society of Neurology, the Italian Academy for the Study of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders, and the Italian Network on Botulinum Toxin. We first discuss the clinical approach and the instrumental assessment useful for diagnostic purpose. Then, we analyze the pharmacological, surgical, and rehabilitative therapeutic options for adult dystonia. Finally, we propose a hospital-territory network model for adult dystonia management. Identification of in situ concrete characteristic strength (CCS) of deteriorating RC structures directly affects their rehabilitation. Contemporary practices lack the ability to yield CCS or at most produce an unrealistic estimate, because: (i) core tests are few due to technical and economic constraints and their positioning is random, inducing bias in the strength estimate, (ii) non-destructive tests (NDT) are themselves not good estimators of project specific strength, (iii) tests are only local indicators and most practising engineers are unaware of how to process the spatial variability. This paper overcomes these limitations with a novel and implementable framework, for an asset manager to make scientific estimates of CCS. This is a tri-level framework: (1) NDT are performed to capture the spatial variability of the investigated concrete; (2) core extractions are guided by the prior NDT information, to avoid bias in test location selection; (3) NDT and coring results are fused via Bayesian NDT test calibration and updating of the probability distribution of the concrete strength. Health care consumers have emphasised the importance of being able to express themselves in a sexual nature, regardless of their health conditions. Unfortunately, literature based on experienced occupational therapists and students, indicates sexuality is poorly addressed, despite being a meaningful occupation. There is limited literature based on Australian experiences or the experiences of recent graduates, therefore this study aimed to explore how comfortable and prepared 11 recent graduates who studied in Australia, were in addressing sexuality, as well as the enablers and challenges experienced. A qualitative research design was utilized, with results demonstrating that undergraduate curricula are not adequately preparing new graduates to feel equipped with the knowledge, skills, comfort and preparedness to address sexuality. Enablers such as education, professional development and supportive workplaces, can aid to facilitate positive change in this area of practice, which may improve client outcomes. Loss of voice is a serious concern for a laryngectomee which should be addressed prior to planning the procedure. Voice rehabilitation options must be educated before the surgery. Even though many devices have been in use, each device has got its limitations. We are searching for probable future technologies for voice rehabilitation in laryngectomees and to familiarise with the ENT fraternity. We performed a bibliographic search using title/abstract searches and Medical Subject Headings (MeSHs) where appropriate, of the Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science and Google scholars for publications from January 1985 to January 2020. The obtained results with scope for the development of a device for speech rehabilitation were included in the review. A total of 1036 articles were identified and screened. After careful scrutining 40 articles have been included in this study. Silent speech interface is one of the topics which is extensively being studied. It is based on various electrophysiological biosignals like non-audible murmur, electromyography, ultrasound characteristics of vocal folds and optical imaging of lips and tongue, electro articulography and electroencephalography. Electromyographic signals have been studied in laryngectomised patients. Silent speech interface may be the answer for the future of voice rehabilitation in laryngectomees. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a widely recognized vestibular disorder which occurs with short periods of paroxysmal vertigo produced in specific positions. This investigation targets contrasting the adequacy of two unique moves utilized in the management of posterior canal BPPV (PC-BPPV). One is traditional procedure, Epley repositioning maneuver (ERM) and another is Gans Repositioning maneuver (GRM). To compare the efficacy of maneuvers on vertigo and dizziness for people with posterior canal BPPV using Dix hallpike test, Vertigo Analogue Scale (VAS) and Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), 100 people will be recruited confirming to eligibility criteria for this two group (ERM group and GRM group) participant and assessor blinded randomized control study. After Participants will be randomly assigned to either group, the respective maneuver will be performed one or two times until the symptoms resolve. Post maneuver instructions will be demonstrated to each subject nicely. Then, family history will be taken using a questionnaire. Outcomes will be taken once after giving maneuver and then, once after 1 month of treatment. Main outcome variables include VAS, DHI, and Dix hallpike test negativity. If the results indicate that Gans Manoeuvre is equivalent to Epley manoeuvre, then in older and postural compromised BPPV patients who has cervical related neck stiffness and pain or any other disorder, where Epley manoeuvre can not be given as it involves neck extension and rotation, Gans manoeuvre can be given. Tissue injuries that affect the skin and/or adjacent tissues and are usually over a bony prominence are called pressure injuries. The prevalence of these dysfunctions remains high, and despite technological advances, there is no consensus on the most appropriate treatment. The objective of this review was to evaluate the efficacy of photobiomodulation (PBM), ultrasound, and high-frequency electrophysical agents in the healing of pressure injuries in adults and the elderly. The search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and PEDro databases; in clinical trial records, a list of references of the selected articles, as well as through manual search (Google), of the last 5 years in humans in English and Portuguese. Nine thousand and sixty-seven studies were identified, 13 pre-selected, and 6 were included in this systematic review. PBM showed similar efficacy to other technologies indicated in other studies in healing pressure injuries. PBM with red wavelength (660 nm) in stages 2 and 3 pressure injuries effectively promoted healing compared to standard care. It was observed that the use of PBM accelerates tissue repair in pressure injuries; therapeutic ultrasound showed similar efficacy to other electrophysical agents but was effective in reducing the area of pressure injuries when comparing pre- and post-intervention. Purpose: Disturbance to physical and psychological characteristics among COVID-19 survivors are not uncommon complications. In the current systematic review, we aimed to investigate the role of exercise rehabilitation programs, either in acute or post-acute phase, on COVID-19 patients' outcomes. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in November 2021 of Web of Sciences, PubMed-Medline, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Observational and intervention studies on COVID-19-infected patients undergoing a rehabilitation program including any type of exercise were included if they reported physical or psychological factors as outcomes. The Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized controlled trials and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal checklist were used by two independent reviewers. Results: A total number of 469, and 957 patients were included in 9 intervention studies, and 14 observational studies, respectively. Most factors reported by studies as outcomes fell in the categories of exercise capacity, respiratory function, as well as psychological aspects. The reported outcomes in almost all studies, disclosed the overall beneficial role of exercise rehabilitation in improving the outcomes. Conclusion: The current review demonstrated that exercise rehabilitation generally could have a beneficial role in improvement of both physical and psychological related outcomes. As the best onset time, and FITT components are not yet completely clear, further large, well-designed RCTs are suggested to provide details of exercise rehabilitation program. Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that leads to tremor, slowness, muscle stiffness, and other movement disorders. The benefits of exercise for reducing disability in individuals with Parkinson's disease are numerous. However, not much is known about the designing and prescription of exercise in neurodegenerative diseases. A brief review and indications for exercise prescription and evaluation are discussed throughout. In this scoping review, we specifically aimed to describe the applicability of walking tests (6-min/10-m) for the prescription of exercise in individuals with Parkinson's disease and to propose training (undulating periodized) designs in three exercise modalities, Brazilian dance rhythms (Samba and Forró), deep-water exercises, and Nordic walking. These training models and evaluation methods may assist coaches and therapists in organizing exercise programs adequate to people with Parkinson's disease, and are essential steps toward a comprehensive and more detailed understanding of the training loads in motor disorders and disease states. Aphasia is an impairment of language caused by acquired brain damage such as stroke or traumatic brain injury, that affects a person's ability to communicate effectively. The aim of rehabilitation in aphasia is to improve everyday communication, improving an individual's ability to function in their day-to-day life. For that reason, a thorough understanding of naturalistic communication and its underlying mechanisms is imperative. The field of aphasiology currently lacks an agreed, comprehensive, theoretically founded definition of communication. Instead, multiple disparate interpretations of functional communication are used. We argue that this makes it nearly impossible to validly and reliably assess a person's communicative performance, to target this behaviour through therapy, and to measure improvements post-therapy. In this article we propose a structured, theoretical approach to defining the concept of functional communication. We argue for a view of communication as "situated language use", borrowed from empirical psycholinguistic studies with non-brain damaged adults. This framework defines language use as: (1) interactive, (2) multimodal, and (3) contextual. Existing research on each component of the framework from non-brain damaged adults and people with aphasia is reviewed. The consequences of adopting this approach to assessment and therapy for aphasia rehabilitation are discussed. Purpose: Globally, spine disorders are the leading cause of disability, affecting more than half a billion individuals. However, less than 50% of G20 countries specifically identify spine health within their public policy priorities. Therefore, it is crucial to raise awareness among policy makers of the disabling effect of spine disorders and their impact on the economic welfare of G20 nations. In 2019, SPINE20 was established as the leading advocacy group to bring global attention to spine disorders. Methods: Recommendations were developed through two Delphi methods with international and multi-professional panels. Results: In 2022, seven recommendations were delivered to the leaders of G20 countries, urging them to: Develop action plans to provide universal access to evidence-based spine care that incorporates the needs of minorities and vulnerable populations. Invest in the development of sustainable human resource capacity, through multisectoral and inter-professional competency-based education and training to promote evidence-based approaches to spine care, and to build an appropriate healthcare working environment that optimizes the delivery of safe health services. Develop policies using the best available evidence to properly manage spine disorders and to prolong functional healthy life expectancy in the era of an aging population. Create a competent workforce and improve the healthcare infrastructure/facilities including equipment to provide evidence-based inter-professional rehabilitation services to patients with spinal cord injury throughout their continuum of care. Build collaborative and innovative translational research capacity within national, regional, and global healthcare systems for state-of-the-art and cost-effective spine care across the healthcare continuum ensuring equality, diversity, and inclusion of all stakeholders. Develop international consensus statements on patient outcomes and how they can be used to define and develop pathways for value-based care. Recognize that intervening on determinants of health including physical activity, nutrition, physical and psychosocial workplace environment, and smoking-free lifestyle can reduce the burden of spine disabilities and improve the health status and wellness of the population. At the third SPINE20 summit 2022 which took place in Bali, Indonesia, in August 2022, 17 associations endorsed its recommendations. Objective: To investigate the effects of an individualized vestibular rehabilitation (VR) program on balance and gait performance and on self-perceived handicap in a group of vestibular migraine (VM) patients with associated anxiety. Methods: An 8-week prospective clinical trial of a VR program was conducted on 74 VM patients. The effects were evaluated with the modified Clinical Test of Sensory Integration in Balance (mCTSIB), the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) before and after VR. The Panic Agoraphobic Spectrum Self-Report version (PAS-SR) was used to assess the patients' level of anxiety. Results: DGI and DHI parameters significantly improved after VR (p < 0.05). The fall rates of mCTSIB were significantly decreased on foam with eyes closed (chi-square: 4.934, p = 0.026), and on foam with head back and eyes closed (chi-square: 7.451, p = 0.006). Forty-three (58.1%) of 74 VM patients had panic-anxiety complaints in terms of PAS scores (a score of > 46 points indicates the presence of anxiety). Balance and gait performance as measured by DGI (p = 0.000), DHI (p = 0.000), and mCTSIB (p < 0.05) improved significantly after VR in both groups of VM patients: those with and without anxiety complaints (PAS scores > 46 points and < 46 points, respectively). Conclusion: Even VM patients with anxiety complaints benefited from vestibular exercises, and their imbalance complaints and perceived levels of handicap/disability improved. Individual specific vestibular exercises created with a clinical decision-making process provide functional improvement through vestibular compensation mechanisms. Introduction: The first weeks after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are crucial for the functional outcome. To improve knee mobility, a continuous passive motion (CPM) motor rail is commonly used during in-hospital rehabilitation. The single-joint hybrid assistive limb (HAL-SJ) is a new therapy device. The aim of the study was to improve patients' range of motion (ROM), mobility, and satisfaction using the active-assistive support of the HAL-SJ. Materials and methods: Between 09/2017 and 10/2020, 34 patients, who underwent TKA and matched the inclusion criteria, were randomized into study (HAL-SJ) and control (CPM) group. Treatment began after drain removal and was carried out until discharge. Primary outcome parameters were raised pre- and postoperatively and included the Oxford knee score (OKS), visual analog scale (VAS), and acquired range of motion. Furthermore complications caused by the device were recorded. Results: OKS increased in both groups postoperatively, but only significantly in the HAL-SJ group. Postoperative pain improved in both groups without significant differences. Flexion improvement was significant in both groups between days 3/7 and 8 weeks postoperatively. We did not encounter any complications related to HAL-SJ. Conclusions: In conclusion, use of the HAL-SJ during rehabilitation in the early postoperative period after TKA was safe without disadvantages compared to the control group and seems to have advantages in terms of daily life impairment. Purpose: In Germany, almost every other colorectal cancer (CRC) patient undergoes inpatient cancer rehabilitation (ICR), but research on long-term outcomes is sparse. We aimed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL), distress, and posttraumatic growth among former rehabilitants and non-rehabilitants as well as respective differences and to estimate disease-related quality of life deficits in both groups. Methods: HRQOL (EORTC-QLQ-C30/CR29), distress (QSC-R10), and posttraumatic growth (PTGI) were assessed according to past ICR in patients 5-year post-CRC-diagnosis in the German DACHS study. Least square mean differences in HRQOL scores and elevated distress levels (QSC-R10 > 14 points) by ICR were estimated by confounder-adjusted linear and logistic regression, respectively. Differences in PTGI scales were tested for statistical significance. EORTC-QLQ-C30 reference scores from population controls were accessed from the LinDE study to estimate disease-related deficits in both treatment groups. Results: 49% of the included 1906 CRC survivors had undergone ICR. Rehabilitants reported lower HRQOL scores than non-rehabilitants in several dimensions of the EORTC-QLQ-C30/CR29. Differences were pronounced among younger survivors (< 70 years). In younger survivors, past ICR also predicted elevated distress. However, rehabilitants showed higher posttraumatic growth. When compared to 934 population controls, non-rehabilitants and older rehabilitants reported HRQOL scores (EORTC-QLQ-C30) similar to controls except higher levels of bowel dysfunctions, whereas younger rehabilitants experienced deficits regarding most scales (13/15). Conclusion: Our findings suggest a high disease burden 5 years after diagnosis in particular among younger CRC survivors who had undergone ICR. Purpose: To evaluate perceived fatigue (PF) and neuromuscular fatigue (NMF) in patients with COPD and chronic respiratory failure (CRF) on long-term oxygen therapy (CRF-COPD group), and the relationships between PF, NMF, patient's characteristics, comparing severe patients with COPD to patients without CRF (COPD group).Methods: This cross-sectional study compared 19 CRF-COPD patients with 10 COPD patients attending a rehabilitation program. PF was determined by Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), while dyspnea by the Barthel Dyspnea Index (BDI). We assessed quadriceps NMF via electrical nerve stimulation during and following a Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC) detecting changes after a Constant Workload Cycling Test (CWCT) at 80% of the peak power output at exhaustion.Results: CRF-COPD patients showed higher PF (+ 1.79 of FSS score, p = 0.0052) and dyspnea (+ 21.03 of BDI score, p = 0.0023) than COPD patients. After the fatiguing task and normalization for the total work, there was a similar decrease in the MVC (CRF-COPD -1.5 ± 2.4 vs COPD -1.1 ± 1.2% baseline kJ-1, p = 0.5819), in the potentiated resting twitch force (CRF-COPD -2.8 ± 4.7 vs COPD -2.0 ± 3.3% baseline kJ-1, p = 0.7481) and in the maximal voluntary activation (CRF-COPD -0.1 ± 3.9 vs COPD -0.9 ± 1.2 -2.0 ± 3.3% baseline kJ-1, p = 0.4354). FSS and BDI were closely related (R = 0.5735, p = 0.0011), while no correlation between PF and NMF was found.Conclusion: Patients with CRF-COPD develop higher levels of perceived fatigue and dyspnea than patients with COPD; while neuromuscular fatigue is similar, suggesting a mismatch between symptoms and neuromuscular dysfunction. Purpose: To investigate the effect of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in addition to conventional physical rehabilitation on muscle strength, functional capacity, mobility, hemodynamics, fatigue, and quality of life in hospitalized patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Methods: We conducted a randomized controlled trial in 57 inpatients with hematological diseases undergoing HSCT. Conventional inpatient physical rehabilitation was delivered to the IMT (n = 27) and control (CON; n = 30) groups according to usual care, and the first group additionally performed IMT. The IMT was prescribed according to clinical and laboratory parameters at 40% of maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), 5 days/week throughout the hospitalization, in sessions of 10–20 min. The primary outcome was MIP and the secondary outcomes were maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), peripheral muscle strength (handgrip and sit-to-stand tests), functional capacity (6-min step test), mobility (timed up and go test), blood pressure, quality of life (EORTC-QLQ-C30), and fatigue (FACT-F) at admission and hospital discharge. Results: The population was predominately autologous HSCT. The IMT group significantly increased the MIP (P < 0.01) and decreased both fatigue (P = 0.01) and blood pressure (P < 0.01) compared with control. No differences were found between admission and hospital discharge in peripheral and expiratory muscle strength, functional capacity, mobility, and quality of life in both groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Our results support the effectiveness of IMT as part of rehabilitation for HSCT inpatients, improving inspiratory muscle strength, and reducing fatigue and blood pressure. Purpose: Treatment-induced sexual and intestinal dysfunctions coexist among women after pelvic radiotherapy. We aimed to explore if sexual health and wellbeing may be improved after radiotherapy following nurse-led interventions and if an association exists between improved intestinal health and sexual health. Methods: A population-based cohort of women treated with pelvic radiotherapy underwent interventions at a nurse-led clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sweden, from 2011 to 2017. Self-reported questionnaires were used, pre- and post-intervention, to compare self-reported changes in sexual health and wellbeing. A regression model was performed to explore the association between intestinal and wellbeing variables. Results: Among the 260 female pelvic cancer survivors included in the study, more women reported increased than decreased satisfaction with overall sexual health post-intervention (26.0% vs. 15.3%, p = 0.035). They also reported significantly reduced superficial genital pain (25.8% vs. 13.1%, p ≤ 0.025), reduced deep genital pain (23.1% vs. 8.0%, p ≤ 0.001), increased QoL (42.7% vs. 22.4%, p < 0.001), and reduced levels of depression (43.1% vs. 28.0%, p = 0.003) or anxiety (45.9% vs. 24.4%, p < 0.001) post-intervention. We found a significant association between reduced urgency to defecate and improved satisfaction with overall sexual health (RR 3.12, CI 1.27–7.68, p = 0.004) and between reduced urgency to defecate with fecal leakage and reduced anxious mode (RR 1.56, CI 1.04–2.33, p = 0.021). Conclusion: Sexual health and wellbeing can be improved by interventions provided in a nurse-led clinic focusing on physical treatment-induced late effects. Objective: Noisy galvanic vestibular stimulation (nGVS) has been shown to partly restore vestibular function and to stabilize stance and gait in patients with incomplete bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP). Here, we examined potential synergistic effects of nGVS when combined with standardized vestibular rehabilitation training (VRT). Methods: 23 patients with confirmed BVP received a 30-min vestibular rehabilitation training (VRT) program three times a week for 2 weeks. The intervention group (n = 12) was stimulated with nGVS (at individually determined optimal amplitudes) during training, whereas the control group (n = 11) received zero-amplitude nGVS (sham stimulation) during training. Outcome measurements assessed at baseline, after 2 weeks of training, and at 2-week follow-up included quantitative posturography, instrumented gait analysis, Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Functional Gait Assessment (FGA), and clinical scores related to quality of life and balance confidence. Results: After 2 weeks of VRT, all patients showed moderate improvement in balance. Irrespective of nGVS treatment, performance improved in the TUG (p < 0.013), and in the FGA (p < 0.040). Furthermore, base of support when walking with closed eyes was reduced after 2-week training (p < 0.003). Postural sway did not change. There was no difference between groups and thereby no evidence for an additional influence of nGVS on the VRT treatment effects. Conclusion: nGVS does not induce synergistic treatment effects in combination with VRT in patients with BVP when applied during treatment sessions. Hence, rather than being applied in parallel, nGVS and VRT might be complementary therapeutic options with nGVS being used during postural activities in daily life, e.g., walking. Introduction: Advanced hip imaging and surgical findings have demonstrated that a common cause of greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is hip abductor tendon (HAT) tears. Traditionally, these patients have been managed non-operatively, often with temporary pain relief. More recently, there has been an increase in published work presenting the results of surgical intervention. A variety of open and endoscopic transtendinous, transosseous and/or bone anchored suture surgical techniques have been reported, with and without the use of tendon augmentation for repair reinforcement. While patient outcomes have demonstrated improvements in pain, symptoms and function, post-operative rehabilitation guidelines are often vague and underreported, providing no guidance to therapists.Materials and Methods: A systematic search of the literature was initially undertaken to identify published clinical studies on patients undergoing HAT repair, over a 3-year period up until May 2020. Following the application of strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, studies were identified and the detail relevant to rehabilitation was synthesized and presented. Published detail was combined with the authors clinical experience, with a detailed overview of rehabilitation proposed for this patient cohort.Results: A total of 17 studies were included, reporting varied detail on components of rehabilitation including post-operative weight bearing (WB) restrictions, the initiation of passive/active hip range of motion (ROM) and resistance exercises. A detailed rehabilitation guide is proposed.Conclusion: In combining the current published literature on rehabilitation after HAT repair and our own clinical experience in the surgical management and post-operative rehabilitation of these patients, we present an evidence-based, structured rehabilitation protocol to better assist surgeons and therapists in treating these patients. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess perioperative pain and mobilization after total hip arthroplasty (THA) using three different surgical approaches. Methods: This was a multisurgeon, prospective, single-center cohort study. A total of 188 patients who underwent hip arthroplasty (THA) between February 2019 and April 2019 were analyzed according to the surgical approach used (direct anterior, lateral, and posterior approach). Outcome parameters were the daily walking distance during the inpatient stay, the pain level according to the visual analog scale (VAS) at rest and motion during the inpatient stay and at 6-week follow-up and the modified Harris Hips Score (mHHS) preoperatively and at 6 weeks. Results: The walking distance within the groups increased significantly during the inpatient stay (p < 0.001). The DAA and posterior approach patients had a significantly longer walking distance than the lateral approach patients on the third postoperative day (DAA vs. lateral, p = 0.02; posterior vs. lateral 3, p = 0.03). DAA and posterior approach patients reported significantly less pain during motion on the third postoperative day and at 6-week follow-up than the lateral approach patients (3 postoperative day: DAA vs. lateral, p = 0.011; posterior vs. lateral, p = 0.04; 6 weeks control: DAA vs. lateral, p = 0.001; Posterior vs. lateral 3, p = 0.005). The mHHS demonstrated significant improvement within each group. However, lateral approach patients reported significantly less improvement than the DAA and posterior approach patients (DAA vs. lateral, p = 0.007; posterior vs. lateral, p = 0.021). Conclusion: This study analyzed perioperative pain progression and short-term rehabilitation after THA according to the different surgical approaches. Direct anterior and posterior approaches have shown comparable improvements in pain, walking distance, and mHHS. Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is a common and costly complication of stroke and is associated with increased mortality, morbidity, and hospitalization. Although most patients can spontaneously resume swallowing, there are still many patients who do not recover and even die. Despite multiple advances in the acute treatment and secondary prevention of stroke, the effective treatment of PSD remains a neglected area. Studies have shown that repair mechanisms of neurostimulation techniques and increased cortical activity play an important role in the treatment of PSD. In addition, nutritional interventions are also crucial for the treatment of malnutrition in PSD patients. Therefore, this article reviews the effects of the current main clinical treatment methods and nutritional interventions on the treatment and rehabilitation of PSD patients. It also emphasized the necessity of developing an individualized care plan for PSD patients, which is of great significance to promote the clinical treatment, nutritional status, prognosis, and quality of life of PSD patients. Introduction: Exercise is recognised as integral in mitigating a myriad negative consequences of cancer treatment. However, its benefit within adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer cohorts remains relatively under researched, and caution should be taken in extrapolating outcomes from adult and paediatric populations given AYA distinctly different physiological and psychosocial contexts. This study sought to evaluate the impact of an exercise intervention on mitigating the expected decline in fitness, strength, physical functioning, and quality of life (QOL) in AYA undergoing cancer treatment.Methods: This prospective, randomised controlled trial (FiGHTINGF!T) allocated 43 participants (63% male, mean age 21.1 years) to a 10-week, multimodal, bi-weekly exercise intervention (EG) or control group (CG) undergoing usual care. Pre- and post-intervention assessments included cardiopulmonary exercise tests, one-repetition maximum (1RM) strength, functional tests, and QOL patient-reported outcome measures. Data were analysed via linear mixed models and regression.Results: While no significant group differences (p > 0.05) were observed, neither group significantly declined (p > 0.05) in any outcome measure over the 10-week period. No significant (p˃0.05) strength or functional improvements were observed in the CG, though the EG demonstrated significant improvements in their 1RM leg press (p = 0.004) and chest press (p = 0.032), maximal push ups (p = 0.032), and global QOL (p = 0.011). The EG reported a significant increase in fatigue (p = 0.014), while the CG reported significant positive changes in anxiety measures (p = 0.005).Conclusion: The exercise intervention produced superior improvements in strength and global QOL, compared with the CG. Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) acquired weakness is associated with reduced physical function, increased mortality and reduced quality of life, and affects about 43% of survivors of critical illness. Lacking therapeutic options, the prevention of known risk factors and implementation of early mobilization is essential. Robotic assistance devices are increasingly being studied in mobilization. Objective: This qualitative review synthesizes the evidence of early mobilization in the ICU and focuses on the advantages of robotic assistance devices. Results: Active mobilization should begin early during critical care. Interventions commencing 72 h after admission to the ICU are considered early. Mobilization interventions during critical care have been shown to be safe and reduce the time on mechanical ventilation in the ICU and the length of delirious episodes. Protocolized early mobilization interventions led to more active mobilization and increased functional independence and mobility at hospital discharge. In rehabilitation after stroke, robot-assisted training increases the chance of regaining independent walking ability, especially in more severely impaired patients, seems to be safe and increases muscle strength and quality of life in small trials. Conclusion: Early mobilization improves the outcome of the critically ill. Rehabilitation and release are commonly used for confiscated, surrendered, and rescued primates. To improve release efficacy it is important to generate accurate behavioral profiles of release candidates. Research on primates traditionally uses observer ratings to measure individual differences. This method is easily implemented, but its validity has been questioned. We evaluated whether observer ratings reflect behavioral data indicating forest adaptation in 18 free-ranging rehabilitant orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus morio). In 2017, we used a species-specific questionnaire to measure how often orangutans engaged in behaviors linked to living successfully in the wild (e.g., nest building) and the extent to which they express personality traits that may influence forest adaptation. We collected 11 months of observational data on 17 of the orangutans concurrently to validate the questionnaire items, and collected further questionnaire data for 16 of the individuals in 2019. We used regularized exploratory factor analysis (REFA) and parallel analysis to condense the ratings and determine that two factors could be reliably extracted. We conducted another REFA using the observational data, and calculated factor congruence coefficients following procrustean rotation. The first of the two factors represented forest skills and human aversion, and was congruent with observational data. The second factor reflected boldness, sociability, and exploration, and was not congruent with observational data. Ratings correlated significantly with observations for all five questionnaire items reflecting adaptation to forest life, and for three of seven items reflecting personality traits. We conclude that ratings can be a valid approach to obtain individual-based behavioral information reflecting forest adaptation in free-ranging rehabilitant orangutans, and may be particularly useful in summarizing behaviors relevant to forest adaptation that are otherwise challenging to gather in primates. Introduction: High-energy lower extremity trauma (HELET) may cause severe damage within the foot–ankle complex. Occasionally, arthrodesis or amputation are the only remaining options to increase activity levels. The modified passive dynamic ankle–foot orthosis (PDAFO) may prove to be a nonsurgical alternative. This study evaluated the effect of a modified PDAFO with a 6-week training program on pain and performance in patients after HELET. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on seventeen patients who considered an arthrodesis or an amputation after HELET. In an attempt to avoid surgery, the modified PDAFO with a 6-week training program was provided. Pain scores was measured with the Numeric Rating Scale and administered at the start of testing, immediately after the two performance tests and at the end of the day of testing. Performance was evaluated with the 6-min walk test (6MWT) and the Comprehensive high-level activity mobility predictor (CHAMP). Results: A significant pain reduction was achieved after the treatment procedure. At the start of the test days (p = 0.002), after the 6MWT (p = 0.001), after the CHAMP (p < 0.001) and at the end of the day (p < 0.001). In addition, a significant improvement on performance was observed in the 6MWT (p < 0.001) and the CHAMP (p = 0.01). None of the patients considered a surgical intervention anymore. Conclusions: Patients after HELET show a decrease in pain and an improvement in performance after a 6-week training program with modified PD-AFO. This paper explores the subjective experiences of mental health practitioners, people with psychosis and carers, on social isolation and community integration of people with psychosis. Focus groups and one-to-one interviews with 80 adult participants across three sites in the UK were conducted. Audio recordings were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Participants commented on various aspects that may cause social isolation or enable community integration, including institutional factors (lack of resources, hospitalisation impact), illness symptoms (e.g., paranoia; over-pathologising vs individual choice), stigma (particularly the psychosis label), and the importance of communities that foster agency and embrace change. Hospitalisation maybe be a cause for isolation and psychiatric wards should consider allowing for socialisation as a therapeutic tool. Initiatives should consider the social fabric of our communities, socioeconomic inequalities and stigmatisation. Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder with progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons. Non-motor-symptoms, such as cognitive, emotional, autonomic, and somatosensory alterations, have been also described. Interoception represents the link between the body and brain, since it refers to the ability to consciously perceive the physical condition of the inner body, including one's heartbeat (i.e., interoceptive sensitivity, IS). Objectives: To evaluate IS in ALS patients by means of a well-established task: the heartbeat perception task. Moreover, we evaluated possible correlations between IS and neuropsychological, affective, and disease-related characteristics. Methods: Fifty-five ALS patients (mean-age = 60.3 ± 12.5 years; mean disease-duration = 20.9 ± 18.8 months) and 41 caregivers (CG) underwent the heartbeat perception task and an extensive evaluation of motor, cognitive, body awareness, affective, and emotion domains. Results: ALS patients showed lower IS than CG (0.68 ± 0.24 vs 0.82 ± 0.16; p = 0.003). Significant correlations were found between IS and self-reported measures of alexithymia (subscale of Toronto Alexithymia scale-20 "difficulties in describing feelings"; rho = −.391, p =.003) and interoceptive awareness (subscale of Multidimensional assessment of interoceptive awareness "not worrying about pain"; rho =.405, p =.002). No significant differences were found on questionnaires for depression and anxiety between patients with ALS and their caregivers (p >.05). Conclusions: ALS patients show reduced interoceptive sensitivity that is associated with poorer ability to describe feelings and with lower focalization on pain, regardless of cognitive and motor impairment. A proper assessment tool targeting communicative abilities in patients with severe acquired brain injury (sABI), and particularly for patients recovering from prolonged disorders of consciousness (pDoC), is lacking. The Functional Communication Measures (FCM) consists of a series of rating scales, ranging from 1 (least functional) to 7 (most functional), assessing cognitive requirements for communication and communicative abilities in patients with brain injury. Here we presented exploratory data concerning an Italian adaptation of FCM administered to patients with sABI. After the translation into Italian language, the FCM was blindly administered by 2 independent speech therapists to 19 patients (10 males; median age = 58; IQR = 25) admitted to neurorehabilitation unit after sABI with a level of cognitive functioning between 4 and 8. Two further patients who presented a pDoC after sABI and emerged from the minimally conscious state (a 64-year-old female and a 74-year-old female) were also evaluated by means of the FCM, the Coma Recovery Scale—Revised, and the Disability Rating Scale. Inter-rater agreement was almost perfect for attention, memory, and swallowing items, and substantial for communicative-augmentative communication, motor speech, spoken language expression, and spoken language comprehension. Importantly, in the two pDoC patients, the FCM identified two different functioning profiles in the attention, swallowing, motor speech, and spoken language expression scales, notwithstanding the two patients achieved the same scores on scales for functional disability and consciousness level. To examine rehabilitation professionals' training and education, attitudes, beliefs or misconceptions, and assessment of issues related to sexuality in individuals with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and their romantic partners. 318 healthcare professionals from Latin America (LA) who worked with individuals with SCI completed an online survey. 99.0% affirmed that sexuality is an issue that should be addressed during the rehabilitation of people with SCI. 86.0% reported being asked questions about sexuality after SCI by their patients and/or their partners, but only 33.2% of the professionals affirmed that it was very likely for them to initiate a conversation about the topic. Only 35.4% reported discussing sexuality issues with patients and their partners as a regular practice; further, 61.5% of the sample reported not being prepared at a scientific, therapeutic, and/or educational level to be able to advise people with SCI in the area of sexuality. 95.9% indicated they would be interested in attending courses, seminars, or conferences tailored to the topic of sexuality after SCI. Participants agreed nearly unanimously (96.8%) that it would be easier to discuss sexuality with people with SCI and their partners if they had more training on this topic, which they believed should have been received during their undergraduate (63.5%) and advanced (34.9%) studies. Findings provide insight into the way sexuality is addressed and attended to in the field of rehabilitation in LA and inform initiatives to improve the provision of care in the realm of sexuality for individuals after SCI. The purpose of the study was to assess psychological status (PS) and quality of life (QOL) before surgical resection of maxilla (T0), 2 weeks after resection (T1), 2 weeks after use of intermediate obturator (T2), before (T3) and 12 weeks after use of definitive obturator (T4). 20 participants, planned for resection of maxilla and subsequent prosthodontic rehabilitation were enrolled. Assessment was done using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) (HADS-A: anxiety and HADS-D: depression) for PS, World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire- Head and Neck Module (EORTC QLQ- H&N35) for QOL, and obturator functioning scale (OFS) for obturator functioning. Six cases were dropped out. Highest HADS-A score was observed presurgically (18.7 ± 1.1) and highest HADS-D score at T1 (18.5 ± 1.8). After rehabilitation, HADS-A and HADS-D decreased significantly (P < 001). Least WHOQOL-BREF score was observed at T1, followed by a consistent, significant rise after rehabilitation at all time intervals (P < 001). Highest EORTC QLQ-H&N 35 score was observed at T1, with significant reduction (P < 0.001) after rehabilitation for all questions, except those related to sexual wellness (P = 1). Highest OFS were observed at T2 (3.1 ± 10.3) and least at T4 (1.9 ± 0.2). QOL and PS decline after maxillectomy. Patient education and rehabilitation with obturator leads to improvement in QOL and PS probably due to restored oral functions, and improved health of soft tissue. This paper dwells upon COVID-19-related efforts of the Center for Sports Medicine, Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia. The Agency has the following precautions in place: regular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing of athletes and staff; double PCR testing before going to training camps or medical examinations; isolating athletes and their traceable contacts when COVID is suspected; observation and isolation wards set up at training camp venues. Athlete vaccination has begun. Athletes are provided online advice on health, diet, and exercising plus special care for chronically ill athletes and remote psychological counseling. Athletes recovering from COVID-19 are offered rehabilitation programs and doctor-supervised return to training. Specialists of the Research Department at FMBA's Center for Sports Medicine carried out a research dedicated to the prevalence of COVID-19 and different variants of its course in Russian athletes. The study period lasted from March to December 2020. A total of 27,438 records were analyzed. In May, June, July and August 2020, the percentage of positive PCR tests for athletes was significantly lower than the nationwide percentage at p < 0.05, Pearson's chi-squared test. However, the differences were nullified by September–October. The disease was mild or asymptomatic in most patients. Athletes of summer sports were found to be most likely to contract COVID-19. Introduction: Oncology guidelines recommend participation in cancer rehabilitation or exercise services (CR/ES) to optimize survivorship. Yet, connecting the right survivor, with the right CR/ES, at the right time remains a challenge. The Exercise in Cancer Evaluation and Decision Support (EXCEEDS) algorithm was developed to enhance CR/ES clinical decision-making and facilitate access to CR/ES. We used Delphi methodology to evaluate usability, acceptability, and determine pragmatic implementation priorities. Methods: Participants completed three online questionnaires including (1) simulated case vignettes, (2) 4-item acceptability questionnaire (0–5 pts), and (3) series of items to rank algorithm implementation priorities (potential users, platforms, strategies). To evaluate usability, we used Chi-squared test to compare frequency of accurate pre-exercise medical clearance and CR/ES triage recommendations for case vignettes when using EXCEEDS vs. without. We calculated mean acceptability and inter-rater agreement overall and in 4 domains. We used the Eisenhower Prioritization Method to evaluate implementation priorities. Results: Participants (N = 133) mostly represented the fields of rehabilitation (69%), oncology (25%), or exercise science (17%). When using EXCEEDS (vs. without), their recommendations were more likely to be guideline concordant for medical clearance (83.4% vs. 66.5%, X2 = 26.61, p <.0001) and CR/ES triage (60.9% vs. 51.1%, X2 = 73.79, p <.0001). Mean acceptability was M = 3.90 ± 0.47; inter-rater agreement was high for 3 of 4 domains. Implementation priorities include 1 potential user group, 2 platform types, and 9 implementation strategies. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the EXCEEDS algorithm can be a pragmatic and acceptable clinical decision support tool for CR/ES recommendations. Background: Persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a common and disabling functional neuro-vestibular disorder. We aimed to determine the feasibility and acceptability of conducting a randomised controlled trial of cognitive-behavioural therapy informed vestibular rehabilitation (INVEST intervention) designed for persistent dizziness. Methods: A two-armed parallel groups randomised feasibility study of INVEST vs. a time-matched gold standard vestibular rehabilitation (VRT) control. Participants with PPPD were recruited from a specialist vestibular clinic in London, UK. Participants were individually randomised using a minimisation procedure with allocation concealment. Measures of feasibility and clinical outcome were collected and assessed at 4 months. Results: Forty adults with PPPD were randomised to six sessions of INVEST (n = 20) or gold standard VRT (n = 20). Overall, 59% of patients screened met the inclusion criteria, of which 80% enrolled. Acceptability of INVEST, as assessed against the theoretical framework of acceptability (TFA), was excellent and 80% adhered to all 6 sessions. There were small to moderate treatment effects in favour of INVEST across all measures, including dizziness handicap, negative illness perceptions, symptom focussing, fear avoidance, and distress (standardised mean difference [SMD]g = 0.45; SMDg = 0.77; SMDg = 0.56; SMDg = 0.50, respectively). No intervention-related serious adverse events were reported. Conclusions: The study results give strong support for the feasibility of a full-scale trial. Both arms had high rates of recruitment, retention, and acceptability. There was promising support of the benefits of integrated cognitive-behavioural therapy-based vestibular rehabilitation compared to gold standard vestibular rehabilitation. This commentary attempts to contribute to a further elucidation of Dominic Smith's call for a rehabilitation of the transcendental in philosophy of technology. On the one hand, it focuses on why such a rehabilitation is deemed necessary, particularly in light of Smith's diagnosis of a contemporary tendency towards reification and presentism. Postphenomenology is discussed as a challenge and invitation to further clarify the stakes. On the other hand, this commentary inquires into how Smith envisages the achievement of a rehabilitation of the transcendental. Further attention is given to Smith's idea of a renewed sense of the transcendental. Following his own cues and situating this renewal in the philosophical tradition, the question whether the involved philosophical praxis should be primarily understood as political is brought to the fore. In so doing, Smith's reading and extension of Luciano Floridi's attempts to move beyond Kant receive special attention, since the transcendental is here understood in terms of conditions of feasibility. The challenge put to Smith is to contrast this approach with social-constructivist approaches on the one hand, and Stiegler's thought regarding technics and the transcendental on the other. Robotic-assisted gait training (RAGT) devices allow intensive high repetition of the gait cycle in individuals with locomotor disability, with reduced therapist effort. In addition to usual rehabilitation, RAGT post-stroke improves the likelihood of regaining independent walking, with maximum efficacy identified in the acute and subacute phases of stroke. This study explores the usability and acceptance of RAGT among persons with stroke in an acute hospital setting and examines users' perceptions of two different modes of robotic assistance provided during rehabilitation. A mixed-methods approach comprised semi-structed interviews of end-user perspectives of RAGT in an acute hospital setting following stroke and two 10-point Likert scales rating how comfortable and how natural robotic gait felt using different assistance modes. Content analysis of qualitative data was undertaken with results synthesised by common meaning units. Quantitative data were reported using summary statistics, with Spearmann's correlation co-efficient examining the relationship between Likert scale ratings and measures of participants' stroke related disability. Ten individuals (6 men; 4 women; mean age of 64.5. ± 13 years) were recruited in an acute hospital setting following admission with a stroke diagnosis. Content analysis of interview transcripts identified discussion units centring around positive aspects of how helpful the device was, negative aspects related to set-up time, weight of the device and multiple instructions delivered during use. Initially participants identified that the device could look intimidating, and they feared falling in the device but they subsequently identified the correct mindset for using the device is to trust the technology and not be afraid. Mean ratings for device comfort (7.94 ± 1.4) and how natural walking felt (7.05 ± 1.9) were favourable. Interestingly, a strong relationship was identified, whereby the higher the level of disability, the more natural participants rated walking in the device during maximal assistance mode (rho = 0.62; p = 0.138). This study suggests individuals in the early phases of stroke perceive RAGT to be acceptable and helpful in the main, with some associated negative aspects. There are various interventions of rehabilitation on the bed, but these are time-consuming and cannot be performed for all patients. The purpose of this study was to identify the patients who require early mobilization based on the level of sedation. We retrospectively evaluated the data of patients who underwent physical therapy, ICU admission of > 48 h, and were discharged alive. Sedation was defined as using sedative drugs and a Richmond Agitation–Sedation Scale score of < − 2. Multiple regression analysis was performed using sedation period as the objective variable, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were performed. Of 462 patients admitted to the ICU, the data of 138 patients were analyzed. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and non-surgery and emergency surgery cases were extracted as significant factors. The ROC curve with a positive sedation period of more than 3 days revealed the SOFA cutoff score was 10. A significant positive correlation was found between sedation period and the initial day on early mobilization. High SOFA scores, non-surgery and emergency surgery cases may be indicators of early mobilization on the bed in the ICU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Studies on adherence to exercise therapy of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are rare, and the criteria for adherence to exercise are inconsistent. This study aimed to quantify patient-reported adherence to exercise therapy of Chinese outpatients with AS and investigate the factors related to poor adherence. Methods: The subjects' sociodemographic, disease-related, radiographic, and laboratory parameters were collected. Patients' adherence to exercise therapy was assessed using the Exercise Attitude Questionnaire (EAQ) with a 4-point Likert scale. All cases were grouped as good adherence and poor adherence using a cutoff score of 60, according to a previous study. Univariate analysis was conducted to assess the intergroup differences. Then, we built a multivariate logistic regression model to identify possible significant factors related to poor adherence to exercise therapy. Results: A total of 185 outpatients completed the questionnaire. The mean EAQ score was 49.4 (IQR, 40.7–59.3) and 146 patients (78.9%) were considered to have poor adherence, and 39 patients (21.1%) were considered to have good adherence. The rates of current nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs), and tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor (TNF-i) use were significantly higher in the poor adherence group (p=0.001, p=0.027, p=0.018, respectively). Our multivariate logistic regression model revealed that the only significant associated factor was current use of NSAIDs (OR=3.517; p=0.016; 95% CI, 1.259–9.827). Conclusions: Outpatients with AS had an unacceptable level of adherence to exercise therapy, and current use of NSAIDs was a significantly associated factor.
