In this study, the rotating welding process of Chinese fir (Keteleeriafortunei) in Guizhou, China, was systematically analyzed. The effects of rotating welding conditions, including the dowel-to-guide hole diameter ratio, welding time, depth, base surface, angle, and dowel type, on the performance of welded Chinese fir were explored. Moreover, the physical and chemical changes oftheChinese fir interface during welding were revealed by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results indicated the following: (1) The rotating welding technology can quickly achieve a strong connection between wood through friction heat without chemical adhesives and compared with traditional wood connection technology such as gluing or mechanical fixing;it has the advantages of simple operation, high production efficiency; and environmental friendliness. (2) Aftertherotating welding, the wood underwent significant pyrolysis, especially the degradation of hemicellulose. The heat generated in the welding process caused good melting and mechanical interlocking between the dowel and the wall of the guide hole, but it was also accompanied by afriction loss of the dowel and the substrate. (3) The welding parameters affected the wood's connection strength and stability by altering heat production, distribution, transfer, and frictional losses. The impact of the dowel-to-guide hole diameter ratio had a great influence on the connection strength. When the diameter ratio was 1:0.7, the tensile strength was the highest, reaching 2.27 MPa. (4) The analyses of XPS, FTIR, XRD, and SEM proved thatthechemical composition changes at the interface, leading to a more structured crystalline bond and enhanced connection strength due to fiber entanglement and interlocking. High-pressure gas quenching is widely used in the metals industry during the heat treatment processing of steel specimens to improve their material properties. In a gas quenching process, a preheated austenised metal specimen is rapidly cooled with a gas such as nitrogen, helium, etc. The resulting microstructure relies on the temporal and spatial thermal history during the quenching. As a result, the corresponding material properties such as hardness are achieved. Challenges reside with the selection of the proper process parameters. This research focuses on the heat treatment of steel sample batches. The gas quenching process is fundamentally investigated in experiments and numerical simulations. Experiments are carried out to determine the heat transfer coefficient and the cooling curves as well as the local flow fields. Quenched samples are analyzed to derive the material hardness. CFD and FEM models numerically determine the conjugate heat transfer, flow behavior, cooling curve, and material hardness. In a novel approach, the experimental and simulation results are adopted to train artificial neural networks (ANNs), which allow us to predict the required process parameters for a targeted material property. The steels 42CrMo4 (1.7225) and 100Cr6 (1.3505) are investigated, nitrogen is the quenching gas, and geometries such as a disc, disc with a hole and ring are considered for batch series production. This paper proposes a temperature-adaptive radiative cooling (TARC) coating with simple preparation, cost effectiveness, and large-scale application based on a thermochromic powder. To determine the energy efficiency of the proposed TARC coating, the heat transfer on the surface of the TARC coating was analyzed. Then, a typical two-story residential building with a roof area of 258.43 m2 was modeled using EnergyPlus. Finally, the energy-saving potential and carbon emission reduction resulting from the application of the proposed TARC roof in buildings under different climates in China were discussed. The results showed that the average solar reflectivity under visible light wavelengths (0.38–0.78 μm) decreases from 0.71 to 0.37 when the TARC coating changes from cooling mode to heating mode. Furthermore, energy consumption can be reduced by approximately 17.8–43.0 MJ/m2 and 2.0–32.6 MJ/m2 for buildings with TARC roofs compared to those with asphalt shingle roofs and passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) roofs, respectively. This also leads to reductions in carbon emissions of 9.4–38.0 kgCO2/m2 and 1.0–28.9 kgCO2/m2 for the buildings located in the selected cities. To enhance building energy efficiency, TARC roofs and PDRC roofs are more suitable for use on buildings located in zones with high heating demands and high cooling demands, respectively. To explore the dynamics of flow and heat transfer behaviors associated with bubbles during solution absorption in a vacuum environment, we present the design of an experimental setup for measuring the absorption and transport properties of bubbles in a pressurized vertical tube. The structure and operational principle of the setup are detailed. The reliability and accuracy of the system are validated through a series of experiments, including vacuum level maintenance, bubble flow verification, and energy checks. The findings reveal that the supercharging technology effectively facilitates bubble absorption under negative pressure. Over a 12 h period, the system vacuum level elevates by only 2.33%, indicating a minimal gas leakage rate of 2.4 mL/h and affirming the device's exceptional reliability. The observed bubble formation, rise, collision, coalescence, and rupture behaviors in the experiment are consistent with previous studies on bubble flow. The maximum relative deviations of temperature and concentration at the solution and cooling water outlets are 0.08%, 0.02%, and 0.01%, respectively, validating the device's excellent accuracy. Additionally, the energy check experiments, performed with varying solution inlet temperature and flow rate, reveal the maximum errors of 10.4 J and 12.5 J, respectively, demonstrating the device's satisfactory accuracy. In summary, this work lays a robust experimental foundation for subsequent investigations into the transport properties and transfer mechanisms of bubble absorption in a vacuum environment. This paper takes an old office building in Hefei as the research object to explore the influence of the thermal buffering performance of the case building buffer space on the air speed and thermal environment of the office space based on the field measurement and simulation. As the thermal buffer layer of the main space, the buffer space is the layout mode that follows the thermal transfer law. Building buffer space variables were evaluated and compared by orthogonal tests to determine the better combination of buffer space sizes. The results show that when the air speed is taken as the evaluation index, the influence of each buffer space on the indoor environment is ordered: courtyard > corridor > foyer; when the temperature is taken as the evaluation index, the influence of each buffer space on the indoor environment is ordered: courtyard > foyer > corridor. From the perspective of green transformation, this paper selects two better schemes. Through comparison, it is found that when the buffer space size is: corridor (16 m × 2 m × 3.3 m), courtyard (16 m × 12 m) and foyer (7.2 m × 6 m × 3.3 m) is the optimal scheme, the indoor air speed is increased by 0.1 m/s, and the temperature is reduced to 27.0 °C, which is within the thermal comfort range of the human body. It is found that optimizing the buffer space size of the case building can effectively improve its indoor air speed and thermal environment, and provide theoretical basis and reference for the green transformation of existing buildings of the same type in this area. The erosion of the seabed around offshore structures has emerged as a critical factor impeding the operational safety of offshore engineering facilities. Prompt and precise identification and monitoring of the water–soil interface hold significant importance in mitigating the seabed erosion challenges facing offshore structures. To tackle this issue, a monitoring framework for the water–soil interface is proposed, grounded in heat transport theory. This framework exploits the thermodynamic variances between seawater and the seabed soil to examine the temperature changes in linear heat sources in water and soil under a constant power. In this study, a typical metallic material—iron (Fe)—and non-metallic material—polyvinyl chloride (PVC)—are considered the linear heat sources, and their temperature variations are analyzed within this framework. The findings reveal that the temperature of the linear heat sources rapidly stabilizes, with the ultimate temperature exhibiting a logarithmic correlation with the convective heat transfer coefficient. To further test the practicability of the framework, an indoor test is conducted. The errors between the theoretical calculation results and the experimental results are less than 14% in water and 19% in soil. This paper introduces an innovative analytical model to compute flame velocities and temperatures within a premix burner in a domestic gas oven. This model significantly streamlines the heat transfer simulation process by simplifying the modeling of the thermo-chemical energy release during combustion, effectively reducing complexity and computation time. Accelerated solutions are essential at the initial design stages when comparing the effect of the oven parameter variation on the overall performance. The validation of the proposed analytical model involved experimental assessments of the temperature of the false bottom plate in a natural gas oven. The resulting data were then compared against CFD simulations performed utilizing the proposed model. The results revealed a marginal discrepancy of 4% between the experimental measurements and the outcomes generated by the model. Simulations were executed under differing conditions, encompassing scenarios with and without radiation effects. This exploration identified natural convection as the predominant heat transfer mechanism, with heat radiation contributing only modestly to the heating of the false bottom plate. Among its advantages, the proposed model offers a notable reduction in the numerical complexity of the modeling of the combustion process. Furthermore, its straightforward integration into numerical simulations involving premixed flames underscores its practical utility and versatility in evaluating design performance at the early stages of the design. Unconventional tight oil and gas resources, including shale oil and gas, have become the main focus for increasing reserves and production. The safe and efficient development of unconventional oil and gas is a crucial demand for the energy development strategy. Deep tight oil and gas resource development generally adopts horizontal well drilling methods. During drilling, especially in long horizontal sections, the high temperature frequently causes failures of downhole drilling tools and rotary steering tools. The temperature rises sharply during rock breaking with the drill bit. Existing wellbore heat transfer models do not fully consider the impact of heat generated by the drill bit on the wellbore temperature field. This paper aims to experimentally study the temperature rise law of the cutting tooth of the bottom polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bit during rock breaking. A set of evaluation devices was developed to study the temperature field distribution characteristics at the bottom of the PDC bit during rock breaking under different experimental conditions. The results indicate that the flow rate of drilling fluid, bit rotation speed, and weight on bit (WOB) significantly affect the distribution of the temperature field at the well bottom. This experimental research on the temperature field distribution characteristics at the bottom of the PDC bit during rock breaking helps reveal the heat transfer characteristics of the long horizontal section wellbore, guide the optimization of drilling parameters, and develop temperature control methods. Optimizing the design of the conformal cooling channel can increase the cooling rate of injection mold. The aim of this study was the problem of low cooling efficiency of injection mold for deep-cavity plastic parts under the conventional cooling channel. Based on the analysis of the heat transfer principle of the injection mold, a mathematical description of the cooling time of the conformal cooling channel was made. By designing orthogonal experiments and using simulation methods in the Autodesk Moldflow 2019 software, with the minimum cooling time of the mold as the optimization goal, experimental optimization was carried out for the three design variables of the channel, thereby obtaining the optimal combination of design variables for the conformal cooling channel. The conformal cooling channel layout was innovatively designed, and through computer simulation experiments, it was concluded that the conformal cooling channel adopted a series flat-head layout, which has the shortest cooling time and the fastest cooling rate. Metal additive manufacturing technology was used to complete the manufacturing of the mold insert with the conformal cooling channel. After the trial production of the conformal cooling injection mold, the molding cycle was obviously shortened, and the injection molding production efficiency was significantly improved. In order to enhance the heat transfer performance of a phase change thermal energy storage unit, the effects of trapezoidal fins of different sizes and arrangement modes were studied by numerical simulation in the heat storage and release processes. The optimal enhancement solution was obtained by comparing the temperature distribution, instantaneous liquid-phase ratio, solid–liquid phase diagram and comprehensive heat storage and release performance of the thermal energy storage unit under different fin sizes. During the heat storage process, the results show that when the ratio of the length of the upper and lower base of the trapezoid h1/h2 is 1:9, the heat storage time is shortened by 9.03% and 18.21% compared with h1/h2 = 3:7 and 5:5, respectively. During the heat release process, the optimal heat transfer effect is achieved when h1/h2 = 5:5. To further improve the heat transfer effects, the energy storage unit is placed upside down; then, the least time is achieved when h1/h2 = 2:8. When heat storage and release are considered together, the energy storage unit with h1/h2 = 2:8 takes the shortest time to melt in upright placement and then to solidify in upside-down placement. The present numerical investigation is focused on analyzing the characteristics of steady laminar mixed convection flow in a lid-driven square cavity, specifically considering the utilization of Al2O3–water nanofluid. The Al2O3–water nanofluid is assumed to be Newtonian and incompressible. Within the cavity, a square blockage is positioned at its center, which is subjected to isothermal heating. The blockage ratio of the square is B = 1/4, and the Grashof number is Gr = 100. The walls of the cavity are maintained at a constant temperature, Tc, while the square blockage remains at a constant temperature, Th. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the flow and heat transfer mechanisms, as well as the entropy generation within the cavity. This investigation is conducted for a range of Richardson numbers (0.01 ≤ Ri ≤ 100) and volume fractions of the nanofluid (0 ≤ ϕ ≤ 0.05). Several parameters are obtained and analyzed, including streamlines, isotherms, velocity variations on the vertical and horizontal midplanes, local Nusselt number variations on the surfaces of the square blockage, the average Nusselt number on the square blockage, and the total dimensionless entropy generation of the system. The results of the investigation revealed that both the average Nusselt number on the square blockage and the total dimensionless entropy generation of the system exhibit an increasing trend with an increasing volume fraction of the nanofluid and a decreasing Richardson number. Furthermore, correlations for the average Nusselt number and the total dimensionless entropy generation with the Richardson number, and the nanofluid volume fraction are derived. The issue of aircraft icing poses a substantial threat to flight safety. In order to investigate more efficient anti-icing and de-icing technologies, a comparative analysis was conducted on the de-icing characteristics of three types of actuator materials under varying conditions. Initially, experimental research was undertaken to analyze the temperature traits of three actuators under ice-free conditions. Three power densities were chosen for the experiment: 0.170 W/cm2, 0.727 W/cm2, and 1.427 W/cm2. The research findings revealed distinct characteristics: plasma actuators and resistance wire actuators exhibited a strip-like high-temperature region during operation, with well-defined boundaries between the high-temperature and low-temperature zones, whereas ceramic-based semiconductor actuators showcased a uniform high-temperature region. As energy consumption rose, the thermal equilibrium temperatures of all three types tended to converge, with resistance wire actuators operating at 1.427 W/cm2, showing the highest temperature rise rate at that power density. Subsequently, experimental research was carried out on the de-icing performance of three actuators under icing conditions at a specific power density. Following 120 s of de-icing, the ice layer covering the surface of the plasma actuator completely melted, forming a cavity. Conversely, the ice layer on the ceramic-based semiconductor actuator remained partially intact in a strip shape. Ice deposits were still visible on the surface of the resistance wire actuator. This observation highlights the remarkable de-icing speed of the plasma actuator. The propulsive force of plasma generated on the fluid inside the ice layer enhances heat transfer efficiency, thereby accelerating the de-icing process of the plasma actuator at the same power density. The analysis of the de-icing performance of these three novel types of actuators establishes a robust groundwork for exploring more effective aircraft de-icing methods. This article addresses the design of a compact heat exchanger for the cooling of electronic systems. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used to identify crucial product features to improve device performance and key customer requirements. The QFD simplifies management processes, allowing modifications to device components, such as design parameters (dimensions and materials) and operating conditions (flow type and preferred temperature range). The study was applied to analyse the fundamental features of a compact heat exchanger, assessing their impact on enhancing heat transfer intensity during fluid flow through mini-channels. The thermal efficiency of the compact heat exchanger was tested experimentally. The results allow to verify the results obtained from the numerical simulations due to Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Consequently, the experimental part was reduced in favour of numerical simulations conducted using this commercial CFD software version 2020.2.1 Build 15.04.01. The numerical simulations performed with the aid of CFD showed increases in the heat transfer coefficient of up to 180% compared to the case treated as a reference. The application of the QFD matrix significantly reduces the time required to develop suitable design and material solutions and determine the operating parameters for the cooling of miniature electronic devices. Photovoltaic–thermal (PVT) technology is gaining popularity due to the diminishing availability of traditional fossil fuels and escalating environmental concerns. Enhancing the heat dissipation of PVT to improve its electrical and thermal performance remains a significant task. This study simulates the thermodynamic and heat transfer characteristics in multiple novel PVT structures by examining the impact of various factors such as collector materials, radiation intensity, mass flow rate, and inlet temperature. This work also identifies the optimal mass flow rate for locations with different solar radiation. The numerical results indicate that the electrical efficiency of a designed cylindrical structure has increased by 1.73% while the thermal efficiency has increased by 8.29%. Aluminum is identified as the most cost-effective material for the collector. The optimal mass flow rates in selected locations of Xining, Taiyuan, and Turpan are 0.36 kg/s, 0.35 kg/s, and 0.30 kg/s, respectively. Large-eddy simulation (LES) and Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations were used to study incompressible flow and heat transfer in a U-duct with a high-aspect-ratio trapezoidal cross section. For the LES, the WALE subgrid-scale model was employed, and its inflow boundary condition was provided by a concurrent LES of incompressible fully-developed flow in a straight duct with the same cross section and flow conditions as the U-duct. LES results are presented for turbulent kinetic energy, Reynolds stresses, pressure–strain rate, turbulent diffusion, turbulent transport, and velocity–temperature correlations, with a focus on how they are affected by the U-turn region of the U-duct. The LES results were also used to assess three commonly used RANS models: the realizable k-ε with the two-layer model in the near-wall region, the two-equation shear-stress transport model, and the seven-equation stress-omega Reynolds stress model. Results obtained show steady and unsteady RANS to incorrectly predict the effects of unsteady flow separation. The results obtained also identified the terms in the RANS models that need to be modified and suggested how turbulent diffusion should be modeled when there is unsteady flow separation. This paper presents an experimental investigation conducted to determine the influence of parameters such as the ambient temperature, pollution level, and substrate material on the formation of dry bands on polluted layers. To investigate these parameters, we applied a simplified insulator geometry, developed in our previous work, to experimentally control the complex process of dry band formation on a polluted surface. The simple geometry of the experimental model enabled the use of Plexiglas, RTV, and glass as construction substrate materials. RTV and glass were used to simulate a composite and ceramic insulator surface, respectively. Moreover, an electrooptic (EO) probe enabled the measurement of the axial E-field evolution at the surface of the dry band during dry band formation. The results indicated that the substrate material, ambient temperature, and pollution level substantially influence dry band formation. The effects of the first two parameters are directly associated with heat transfer phenomena in the substrate material and at the ambient air/substrate interface. The effect of the third parameter is associated with absorption and evaporation of the pollution layer. In addition, the appearance of the dry band can be clearly identified by a rapid increase in both the pollution layer resistance and the axial E-field in the dry band area. The value of the axial E-field is influenced primarily by the width of the dry band and by the pollution layer resistance, which is directly dependent on the humidification duration. Finally, because most of the results obtained herein were in accordance with those in the literature, we conclude that the proposed experimental model may provide an effective and inexpensive testing method for developing new materials and solutions for improving the dielectric performance of insulators used in polluted environments. Similarly, the simple geometry of the experimental model and the ability to easily control the experimental parameters may enable this tool to validate the results of various numerical models in studies of the thermoelectrical behavior of polluted insulators. The utilization of phase change materials (PCMs) in solar water heating systems (SWHS) has undergone notable advancements, driven by a rising demand for systems delivering superior performance and efficiency. Extensive research suggests that enhancing heat transfer (HTE) in storage systems is crucial for achieving these improvements. This review employs a bibliometric analysis to track the evolution of HTE methods within this field. While current literature underscores the necessity for further exploration into hot water generation applications, several methodologies exhibit significant promise. Particularly, strategies such as fins, encapsulation, and porous media emerge as prominent HTE techniques, alongside nanofluids, which hold the potential for augmenting solar water heating systems. This review also identifies numerous unexplored techniques awaiting investigation, aiming to pave new paths in research and application within the field of hot water generation. Plate heat exchangers are widely used in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) field. Cross-corrugated triangular ducts are commonly employed in plate heat exchangers. Inserting baffles into the cross-corrugated triangular ducts can improve the heat transfer performance of the plate heat exchangers. This study focuses on intricate interdependencies among the flow channel apex angle, the trapezoidal baffle inclination angle, baffle position, and Reynolds number (Re) on heat transfer and pressure drop using response surface methodology (RSM) and computational fluid dynamic (CFD). To identify the factors that maximize the Nusselt number (Nu) and minimize friction factor (f), the RSM is used to design factors, conduct numerical studies, and establish regression equations. The results show that the apex angle, baffle angle, X-direction position, and Re have significantly affected Nu and f. Compared to a non-baffled channel with the same apex angle and Re conditions, the optimized channel enhances heat transfer by 1.54 times and has an almost identical pressure drop. The inclined baffle significantly enhances comprehensive performance at low Re. The synergistic effect of the heat transfer and pressure drop is most optimal when the apex angle of the flow channel is 90°, the trapezoidal baffle inclination angle is 52.5°, and the Re is 1000, with the baffle position at 0.625H in the X-direction. Working fluids that incorporate solid microencapsulated phase change materials (MPCMs) can benefit from properties such as density and viscosity, which are crucial for improving heat capacity and transfer. However, limited data are available on these parameters for specific slurry and mass ratios. In this study, we present a comparative analysis of the experimental results on the viscosity of three different MPCM aqueous dispersions, namely MPCM 31-S50, MPCM 25-S50, and Micronal 5428X. Varying MPCM mass ratios of distilled water were used to obtain different mass concentrations of the phase change material (PCM), and the resulting slurries were analysed at temperatures ranging from 15 to 40 °C. Our findings showed that all slurries exhibited non-Newtonian characteristics at low shear rates, with viscosity stabilising at higher shear rates, resulting in the characteristics of a Newtonian fluid. The viscosity results were highly dependent on the type of MPCM base dispersion, particularly at high mass ratios, with the slurries having viscosities higher than those of water. Furthermore, we conducted density experiments as a function of temperature, using a flow test setup and a Coriolis flowmeter (Endress+Hauser, Reinach, Switzerland) to determine the density of two MPCMs, namely MPCM 25-S50 and Micronal 5428X. The test samples were prepared at mass concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% of the phase change material. We found significant differences in density and viscosity for different MPCM slurries as a result of both the PCM concentration and the material studied. Our results also revealed an apparent PCM phase change process, in which the slurry density significantly decreased in the temperature range of the phase transition from solid to liquid. The performance of lithium-ion batteries is greatly influenced by various factors within their operating environment, which can significantly impact their overall efficiency and effectiveness. In this paper, a multi-physics field electrochemical thermal model is established to measure the physical parameters of a battery module during the charge/discharge process. The effects of working temperature, current rate, and convective heat transfer coefficient are investigated by establishing an electrochemical and thermal model. The results are obtained by conducting numerous parameterized scans to analyze the system's state across various operating conditions, enabling the determination of its temperature and the selection of appropriate cooling measures accordingly. Based on the internal and external conditions of battery operation, parameter selection corresponding to the operating range is divided into several stages, with thermal management strategies provided for each stage. The existing framework facilitates the design of battery packs equipped with efficient thermal management strategies, thereby enhancing the battery systems' reliability and performance. The performance of the Plate Indirect Evaporative Cooler (PIEC) can be effectively improved by incorporating baffles in the dry channel. However, in the dimensional influence of the baffles on PIEC performance there remains a research gap. In order to investigate the impact of baffle dimensions on the wet bulb efficiency, namely the average heat transfer coefficient and the cooling capacity of the PIEC, this paper proposed and verified a three-dimensional numerical model and method based on the species transport model and the Euler wall film model. At the same time, in order to obtain the equilibrium point between the enhanced heat transfer performance and the additional resistance induced by baffles, a comprehensive performance evaluation index is introduced. The results indicate that, under the same conditions, (1) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is significant at a lower inlet air velocity, and the wet bulb efficiency of the PIEC with baffles can be improved by 22.8%; (2) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is negative if its relative length exceeds 60% or the primary air inlet velocity surpasses 4 m/s under the conditions specified in this paper; and (3) the baffle effect on PIEC performance is significant when its channel height is lower and its channel width is larger, and the wet bulb efficiency of the PIEC with baffles can be improved by 29.3%. This study proposes an anti-gravity 3D pulsating heat pipe (PHP) for cooling pouch batteries in electric vehicles. The 3D PHP envelops the battery cells and rapidly transfers heat generated from the batteries to the bottom cold plate. While the batteries generate heat on their frontal surface during charging and discharging, structural characteristics lead to localized heat accumulation at the electrode lead tabs. Therefore, to address frontal heating, Pattern A with a consistent height for the 3D PHP and Pattern B with varying heights to enhance heat transfer in the localized heating area were designed. The target application involved creating a battery simulator for 340 × 100 mm pouch battery cells, considering the battery's heat generation characteristics. The experiments for the thermal characteristics were conducted, considering factors such as the working fluid (methanol, Novec7100), filling ratio, supplied heat, and orientation. Additionally, to observe internal flow mechanisms, a special experimental apparatus was used, employing transparent fluorine rubber tubes to observe the flow mechanism of the 3D PHP. In the results of the thermal characteristics, the optimal filling ratio was 15% when heat generation levels of 50 W and 100 W were supplied and 20% when 150 W was supplied. The impact of orientation yielded varied results depending on the pattern and working fluid, attributed to the complex interplay of flow momentum due to orientation changes and the influence of the working fluid's buoyancy under anti-gravity conditions. Pattern B, designed with the goal of applying a localized heat model, exhibited relatively decreased heat transfer performance in areas with varying heights. As the distance from the varying height portion increased, temperature oscillations and heat transfer became more active. These results suggest that variations in the shape of the 3D PHP could be a primary design variable for crafting localized heat models. Observations of internal flow revealed that the 3D PHP, with its unique shape and operation under anti-gravity conditions, exhibits longer and more irregular cycles compared to gravity-assist PHPs, transferring heat through rapid oscillations of internal working fluid liquid/vapor slug/plug. This paper deals with the design of porous geometry of a heat transfer element. The proposed geometry combines a gyroid triply periodic minimal surface with the recursive principle of geometric body creation. The designed geometry is based on an attempt to increase the heat transfer surface while eliminating negative impacts on the fluid characteristics in the form of pressure loss or increase of the friction coefficient. The proposed geometry of the heat transfer element was compared with a pair of geometries based on the basic gyroid shape but with different channel size parameters. A numerical simulation was performed in Ansys Fluent 2020 R1 using the SST k-omega turbulence model for flow velocities in the range of 0.01 m.s−1 to 0.5 m.s−1, which covered a wide range of the Reynolds number and thus also flow forms in terms of the turbulence intensity. The presented results clearly show lower values of pressure loss and friction coefficient of the proposed geometry compared to the evaluated porous structures. Also, at the same time, they describe the factors positively influencing the mixing process of the liquid in the proposed element, which leads to an increase in the efficiency of the heat transfer process. This study theoretically investigates the temperature and velocity spatial distributions in the flow of a copper–water nanofluid induced by a rotating rigid disk in a porous medium. Unlike previous work on similar systems, we assume that the disk surface is well polished (coated); therefore, there are velocity and temperature slips between the nanofluid and the disk surface. The importance of considering slip conditions in modeling nanofluids comes from practical applications where rotating parts of machines may be coated. Additionally, this study examines the influence of heat generation on the temperature distribution within the flow. By transforming the original Navier–Stokes partial differential equations (PDEs) into a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), numerical solutions are obtained. The boundary conditions for velocity and temperature slips are formulated using the effective viscosity and thermal conductivity of the copper–water nanofluid. The dependence of the velocity and temperature fields in the nanofluid flow on key parameters is investigated. The major findings of the study are that the nanoparticle volume fraction significantly impacts the temperature distribution, particularly in the presence of a heat source. Furthermore, polishing the disk surface enhances velocity slips, reducing stresses at the disk surface, while a pronounced velocity slip leads to distinct changes in the radial, azimuthal, and axial velocity components. The study highlights the influence of slip conditions on fluid velocity as compared to previously considered non-slip conditions. This suggests that accounting for slip conditions for coated rotating disks would yield more accurate predictions in assessing heat transfer, which would be potentially important for the practical design of various devices using nanofluids. Nowadays, nanotechnology represents a well-established approach, suitable for designing, producing, and applying materials to a broad range of advanced sectors. In this context, the use of well-suited "nano" approaches accounted for a big step forward in conferring optimized flame-retardant features to such a cellulosic textile material as cotton, considering its high ease of flammability, yearly production, and extended use. Being a surface-localized phenomenon, the flammability of cotton can be quite simply and effectively controlled by tailoring its surface through the deposition of nano-objects, capable of slowing down the heat and mass transfer from and to the textile surroundings, which accounts for flame fueling and possibly interacting with the propagating radicals in the gas phase. In this context, the layer-by-layer (LbL) approach has definitively demonstrated its reliability and effectiveness in providing cotton with enhanced flame-retardant features, through the formation of fully inorganic or hybrid organic/inorganic nanostructured assemblies on the fabric surface. The detection of faults during an operational process constitutes a crucial objective within the framework of developing a control system to monitor the structure of industrial mechanisms. Even minor faults can give rise to significant consequences that require swift resolution. This research investigates the impact of overtension in the tooth belt transmission and heating of the screw transmission worm on the vibration signals in a robotic system. Utilizing FFT techniques, distinct frequency characteristics associated with different faults were identified. Overtension in the tooth belt transmission caused localized oscillations, addressed by adjusting the acceleration and deceleration speeds. Heating of the screw transmission worm led to widespread disturbances affecting servo stress and positioning accuracy. A fuzzy logic algorithm based on spectral analysis was proposed for adaptive control, considering the vibration's frequency and amplitude. Shanghai Tower has become a new landmark of Shanghai. In the current trend advocating green building and energy efficiency, considerations of wind loads and thermal characteristics of the perimeter structure of Shanghai Tower are crucial. This paper conducts comparative simulation studies on the wind environment of Shanghai Tower using Ecotect software, and stress analyses and thermal simulations of the perimeter structure using ANSYS software. The study compared three buildings' surface wind pressure distributions using models with equal-volume and circular cross-sections. We found that the unique exterior design of the Shanghai Tower results in a more regular and uniform distribution of wind pressure on its surface compared to both circular and square planar models, with a lower average wind pressure value. In addition, the stress analysis results indicate significant differences in deformation and stress distribution between the windward and leeward sides. Enhancing the bending moment detection of the peripheral structure and optimizing the layout of detection points are recommended. Thermal simulation results show excessive heat conduction flux in winter conditions, suggesting optimization using passive energy-saving methods such as light-sensitive thermal insulation materials during winter. In this study, three randomly packed beds with varying tube-to-particle diameter ratios (D/d) are constructed using the discrete element method (DEM) and simulated via CFD under low pore Reynolds numbers (Rep < 100). An innovation of this research lies in the application of hydrogen in randomly packed beds, coupled with the consideration of its temperature-dependent thermal properties. The axial analysis of the heat transfer characteristics shows that PB−5 and PB−6 achieve thermal equilibrium 44% and 58% faster than PB−4, respectively, demonstrating enhanced heat transfer efficiency. However, at higher flow rates (0.8 m/s), the large-sized fluid channels in PB−6 severely impact the heat transfer efficiency, slightly reducing it compared to PB−5. Additionally, this study introduces a localized segmentation method for calculating the axial local Nusselt number, showing that the axial local Nusselt number (Nu) not only exhibits an inverse relationship with the axial porosity distribution, but also matches its amplitude fluctuations. The wall effect significantly impacts the flow and temperature distribution in the packed bed, causing notable velocity and temperature oscillations in the near-wall region. This paper presents the results of a study on the non-isothermal laminar flow and heat transfer of oil with Newtonian and viscoplastic rheologies. Heat exchange with the surrounding environment leads to the formation of a near-wall zone of viscoplastic fluid. As the flow proceeds, the transformation of a Newtonian fluid to a viscoplastic state occurs. The rheology of the Shvedoff–Bingham fluid as a function of temperature is represented by the effective molecular viscosity apparatus. A numerical solution to the system of equations of motion and heat transfer was obtained using the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations (SIMPLE) algorithm. The calculated data are obtained at Reynolds number Re from 523 to 1046, Bingham number Bn from 8.51 to 411.16, and Prandl number Pr = 45. The calculations' novelty lies in the appearance of a "stagnation zone" in the near-wall zone and the pipe cross-section narrowing. The near-wall "stagnation zone" is along the pipe's radius from r/R = 0.475 to r/R = 1 at Re = 523, Bn = 411.16, Pr = 45, u1 = 0.10 m/s, t1 = 25 °C, and tw = 0 °C. Controlling heat transfer through components with adjustable thermal resistance can be of great benefit in a wide range of applications such as the thermal management of spacecraft or electric vehicles. A novel concept for both thermal switching and thermal regulation is the use of a water-loaded adsorbent within a reservoir that a regular heat pipe is expanded with. By reversibly desorbing or adsorbing water, states of low and high thermal resistance can be achieved. This concept has been studied so far only in thermosiphons that rely on gravity support. To expand potential application fields, we successfully investigated the utilization of heat pipes with a capillary structure, achieving against-gravity operation. Adsorption-based heat pipe demonstrators were experimentally examined regarding their characteristic properties. Thermal resistances during the on and off state of 0.25 KW−1 and 6.5 KW−1, respectively, were measured, yielding switching ratios of up to 26. Furthermore, the role of the adsorbent reservoir heat exchanger was examined and found to have a significant potential to yield an improvement with regards to dynamic performance. Ice plug technology is an effective method for isolating the pipeline system, which are promising methods utilized in the nuclear, chemical, and power industries. To reduce the cold energy consumption and temperature stress, the multi-stage (1–10) of time-dependent thermal boundary conditions was proposed for the formation of ice plug, while the gradient cooling wall temperature of multi-stage was applied. A numerical model considering the liquid–solid phase change, heat transfer, and time-dependent thermal boundary condition has been established. The effects of the ratio of length and diameter of the cooling wall lc/d (1–9) on the formation rate and heat flux of ice plug in the pipe has been investigated. The fastest formation rate of ice plug with 800 mm in the axial direction (7.47 cm3/s) was observed in the pipe with the lc/d of 5. The formation rate of ice plug and the ice formation volume under unit energy consumption VE under various stages (1–10) of cooling wall temperature have been compared. The VE of eight temperature stages (1.45 cm3/kJ) was 1.16 times than the VE of one temperature stage, which satisfied the freezing rate at the same time. Wind machines based on the air disturbance method are progressively employed to mitigate frost damage within the agricultural machinery frost protection. These devices are utilized during radiative frost nights to disrupt near-surface thermal inversion through air mixing. Despite this application, the fundamental mechanisms underlying these mixing processes are not well comprehended. In this research, numerical simulations were conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics software version 6.0 to simulate the flow and heat transfer processes between the thermal airflow and both the tea canopy and stems. The results indicated that due to obstruction from the canopy cross-section, the airflow velocity on the contact surface rapidly increased. As the airflow further progressed, the high-speed region of the airflow gradually approached the canopy surface. Turbulent kinetic energy increased initially on the windward side of the canopy cross-section and near the top interface. On the windward side of the canopy, due to the initial impact of the thermal airflow, rapid heating occurred, resulting in a noticeable temperature difference between the windward and leeward sides within a short period. In the interaction between airflow and stems, with increasing airflow velocity, fluctuations and the shedding of wake occurred on the leeward side of the stems. The maximum sensible heat flux at the windward vertex of the stem increased significantly with airflow velocity. At an airflow velocity of 2.0 m/s, the maximum heat flux value was 2.37 times that of an airflow velocity of 1.0 m/s. This research utilized simulation methods to study the interaction between airflow and tea canopy and stems in frost protection, laying the foundation for further research on the energy distribution in tea ecosystem under the disturbance of airflow for frost protection. Cyperus esculentus is a hard-to-control, destructive perennial weed propagating and spreading through rhizomes and tubers. Currently, a combination of mechanical, cultural, and chemical measures sustained over time is required for satisfactory control of arable crops. Hood steaming is a promising thermal technique for rapid depletion of the soil tuber bank. The effect of hood steaming on C. esculentus tuber vitality was investigated using a dose–response experiment on two localities in Belgium. Steaming was performed for five durations (2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 min). Moreover, the effects of tuber burial depth (5, 15, and 25 cm), genetic C. esculentus clone (three different clones), and pedohydrological parameters (sandy and sandy, loamy soil) on hood steaming efficacy were determined. Additionally, the heat sensitivity of genetically diverse C. esculentus tubers was investigated in a laboratory incubator experiment in which incubation temperature and duration varied. To control tubers at depths of 5, 15, and 25 cm, treatment durations of 8, 16, and 32 min were required, respectively. In general, clones producing large tubers showed lower heat sensitivity. As pedohydrological parameters may affect heat transfer into the soil, they may affect steaming efficacy as well. To obtain complete control of C. esculentus tubers, soil temperature should be 50 °C or more for at least 42 min. In the realm of high-tech materials and energy applications, accurately measuring the transient heat flow at media boundaries and the internal thermal conductivity of materials in harsh heat exchange environments poses a significant challenge when using conventional direct measurement methods. Consequently, the study of photothermal parameter reconstruction in translucent media, which relies on indirect measurement techniques, has crucial practical value. Current research on reconstructing photothermal properties within participating media typically focuses on single-objective or time-invariant properties. There is a pressing need to develop effective methods for the simultaneous reconstruction of time-varying thermal flow fields and internal thermal conductivity at the boundaries of participating media. This paper introduces a computational model based on the numerical simulation theory of internal heat transfer systems in participating media, stochastic particle swarm optimization algorithms, and Kalman filter technology. The model aims to enable the simultaneous reconstruction of various thermal parameters within the target medium. Our results demonstrate that under varying levels of measurement noise, the inversion results for different target parameters exhibit slight oscillations around the true values, leading to a reduction in reconstruction accuracy. In this paper, we consider the time-fractional Black–Scholes model with deterministic, time-varying coefficients. These time parametric constituents produce a model with greater flexibility that may capture empirical results from financial markets and their time-series datasets. We make use of transformations to reduce the underlying model to the classical heat transfer equation. We show that this transformation procedure is possible for a specific risk-free interest rate and volatility of stock function. Hot-gas drum heating (HDH) of bituminous mixtures is a new approach to heating bituminous mixtures that is influenced by the parameters of the hot gas and drum. A fluid thermal numerical model was developed to evaluate the effects of heating bituminous mixtures with HDH using a finite-volume method (FVM). The FVM was verified through the heating test of a bituminous mixture. The effects of the drum rotating speed and hot-gas speed on the efficiency of heating the bituminous mixture during HDH were analyzed using Fluent. The results indicated that the drum rotating speed directly influenced the formation of a bituminous-mixture curtain, which had a significant effect on the efficiency of heating the bituminous mixture. The efficiency of the heat exchange between the hot gas and the bituminous mixture was high, with full contact between the hot gas and the bituminous mixture. With an increase in the hot-gas speed, the heating time became shorter; however, the rate of hot-gas utilization was reduced. A symmetrical temperature distribution and a superior heating efficiency of the bituminous mixture were achieved when the drum rotating speed was 7 rpm and the hot-gas speed was 1.4 m/s. This study comprehensively analyzes the impact of the novel HybridBridge method, developed by the authors, for generating a 3D mesh at contact points within packed beds within the effective thermal conductivity. It compares HybridBridge with alternative methodologies, highlights its superiority and outlines potential applications. The HybridBridge employs two independent geometry parameters to facilitate optimal flow mapping while maintaining physically accurate effective thermal conductivity and ensuring high mesh quality. A method is proposed to estimate the HybridBridge radius for a defined packed bed and cap height, enabling a presimulative determination of a suitable radius. Numerical analysis of a body-centered-cubic unit cell with varied HybridBridges is conducted alongside previous simulations involving a simple-cubic unit cell. Additionally, a physically based resistance model is introduced, delineating effective thermal conductivity as a function of the HybridBridge geometry and porosity. An equation for the HybridBridge radius, tailored to simulation parameters, is derived. Heat transfer affects a motor's sizing, its performance, and, ultimately, the overall vehicle's range and endurance. However, the thermal literature does not have early-stage models for outrunner brushless DC (BLDC) motors found in small unmanned aerial systems (UASs). To address this gap, we have developed a non-dimensional heat transfer model (Nusselt correlation). Parametric experiments of four different-sized BLDC motors under load in Reynolds-matched wind tunnel tests generated data for model correlation. The motors' aspect ratios (diameter/length) ranged from 0.9 to 1.5. The freestream Reynolds number of the axial flow over the motors ranged from 20,000 to 40,000. The rotational Reynolds number ranged from 10,000 to 20,000. The results showed that aspect ratio had the largest influence on heat transfer, followed by rotational and freestream Reynolds numbers. A steady-state model used the correlation to predict the motor's ambient temperature differential within 10 K of experimental data. A case study applied the correlation to predict a hypothetical motor's continuous torque in different environments. Ultra-thin vapor chambers (UTVCs) are widely used to cool high-power electronics due to their excellent thermal conductivity. In this study, a UTVC of 82 mm × 58 mm × 0.39 mm with composite wick was prepared. The composite wick is composed of two layers of copper mesh and multiple spiral-woven meshes (SWMs), and the composite wick was applied in UTVC to improve liquid replenishment performance and temperature uniformity. Furthermore, the thermal performance of UTVCs with different support column diameters, filling ratios (FRs), and SWM structures was experimentally studied. The results found that the equivalent thermal conductivity (ETC) decreases as the diameter of the support column increases; the UTVC with 0.5 mm support column diameter has the highest ETC, at 3473 W/(m·K). Then, the effect of FR on the heat transfer performance of UTVCs with SWM numbers of 0, 1, 2, and 3 (0 SWMs, 1 SWM, 2 SWMs, 3 SWMs) is consistent, the 30% FR UTVC with 3 SWMs having the highest ETC, at 3837 W/(m·K). Finally, the increased number of SWMs can significantly improve the ultimate power of the UTVCs, the UTVC with 3 SWMs having the highest ultimate power, at 26 W. Efficient and stable heat dissipation structure is crucial for improving the convective heat transfer performance of thermal protection systems (TPSs) for hypersonic aircraft. However, the heat dissipation wall of the current TPS is limited by a single material and structure, inefficiently dissipating the large amount of accumulated heat generated during the high-speed maneuvering flight of hypersonic aircraft. Here, a convection cooling channel structure of TPS is proposed, which is an innovative multi-level structure inspired by the natural honeycomb. An active cooling channel (PCM-HC) is designed by using a variable-density topology optimization method and filled with phase change material (PCM). Numerical simulations are used to investigate the thermal performance of the PCM-HC wall, focusing on the influence of PCM properties, structural geometric parameters, and PCM types on heat transfer characteristics. The results demonstrate that the honeycomb-like convection cooling channel wall, combined with PCM latent heat of phase change, exhibits superior heat dissipation capability. With a heat flux input of 50 kW/m2, the maximum temperature on the inner wall of PCM-HC is reduced by 12 K to 20 K. Different PCMs have opposing effects on heat transfer performance due to their distinct thermophysical properties. This study aims to provide condensation heat transfer coefficients of R600a (isobutane) refrigerant under mass fluxes between 50 and 98 kg/m2·s at saturation temperatures of 35 °C, 40 °C and 45 °C. Additionally, experiments are conducted with varying inlet vapour quality to understand its effect on the condensation heat transfer measurement. An aluminium multiport microchannel with a hydraulic diameter ( D h ) of 0.399 mm is used, where a plexiglass cover is mounted on the top of the microchannels to observe the flow conditions. A 1D heat transfer through the aluminium block is assumed, and heat flux through the refrigerant to the coolant is measured to obtain condensation heat transfer coefficients of R600a. The results showed that decreasing saturation temperature and increasing vapour quality increase the condensation heat transfer coefficient. Increasing refrigerant mass flux increases the heat transfer coefficient up to a specific mass flux. The dimensional accuracy and microstructure affect the service performance of parts fabricated by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). Regulating the geometry and microstructure of such parts presents a challenge. The coupling method of an artificial neural network and finite element (FE) is proposed in this research for this purpose. Back-propagating neural networks (BPNN) based on optimization algorithms were established to predict the bead width (BW) and height (BH) of the deposited layers. Then, the bead geometry was modeled based on the predicted dimension, and 3D FE heat transfer simulation was performed to investigate the evolution of temperature and microstructure. The results showed that the errors in BW and BH were less than 6%, and the beetle antenna search BPNN model had the highest prediction accuracy compared to the other models. The simulated melt pool error was less than 5% with the experimental results. The decrease in the ratio of the temperature gradient and solidification rate induced the transition of solidified grains from cellular crystals to columnar dendrites and then to equiaxed dendrites. Accelerating the cooling rate increased the primary dendrite arm spacing and δ-ferrite content. This study establishes thermodynamic assumptions regarding the growth of condensation droplets and a mathematical formulation of droplet energy functionals. A model of the gas–liquid interface condensation rate based on kinetic theory is derived to clarify the relationship between condensation conditions and intermediate variables. The energy functional of a droplet, derived using the principle of least action, partially elucidates the inherent self-organizing growth laws of condensed droplets, enabling predictive modeling of the droplet's growth. Considering the effects of the condensation environment and droplet heat transfer mechanisms on droplet growth dynamics, we divide the process into three distinct stages, marked by critical thresholds of 105 nm3 and 1010 nm3. Our model effectively explains why the observed contact angle fails to reach the expected Wenzel contact angle. This research presents a detailed analysis of the factors affecting surface condensation and heat transfer. The predictions of our model have an error rate of less than 3% error compared to baseline experiments. Consequently, these insights can significantly contribute to and improve the design of condensation heat transfer surfaces for the phase-change heat sinks in microprocessor chips. The installation of successional heating devices in industrial buildings will result in thermal corridors. To improve the thermal environment in and around these corridors, buoyancy-driven ventilation is commonly utilized to dissipate heat, which is based on the natural convection design for buildings. However, the flow and heat exchange patterns of natural convection related to thermal corridors have not been clearly clarified, and no relevant correlations have been established to quantify them. The conducted numerical study aimed to analyze the flow and heat transfer characteristics of natural convection within thermal corridors in industrial buildings. Experimental data were utilized to validate a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model developed for this purpose. The study considered the influence of various parameters on the results obtained. In the side corridor, the prevalence of reverse flow dominates much of the channel, while in the middle corridor, reverse flow near the bottom corner is observed. The ambient air temperature significantly impacts the temperature distribution in both corridors. Increasing the ambient air temperature at the inlet from 22 to 28 °C results in a substantial temperature rise within the corridor, by approximately 6–7 °C. When the outlet size is constant and the inlet size drops by 30%, the air temperature in the corridor increases by 3 °C. Finally, correlations were established based on the simulation data to predict the surface-averaged N u ¯ of the heated wall and the induced mass flow rate, m ˙ , of the natural convection. Foam concrete is a typical cement-based porous material; its special microstructure endows it with excellent properties, such as light weight, energy efficiency, thermal insulation, and fire resistance. Therefore, it is widely used as a thermal insulation material for buildings. The heat transfer modes of foam concrete include conduction, convection, and radiation. However, previous studies considered conduction to be the dominant mode, often neglecting the effects of convection and radiation. In this study, a stochastic numerical model of the foam concrete microstructure is established based on the statistical parameters of the pore structure. With this model, the heat transfer mechanism of foam concrete is analyzed at the mesoscopic level, and the equivalent thermal conductivity is calculated. By comparing four different working conditions, the influence of conduction, convection, and radiation on the heat transfer of foam concrete is analyzed, and the specific contribution rates of conduction, convection, and radiation are calculated. The results show that the convection effect is weak due to the pore size being smaller than 1 mm ; so, the influence of convection can be neglected in the heat transfer analysis of foam concrete. The contribution of radiation increases with the decrease in foam concrete density and the increase in temperature difference. When the temperature difference is 40 °C and the density is 300 kg / m 3 , the contribution of radiation exceeds 20 %. Therefore, for low-density and high-temperature difference situations, the influence of radiation cannot be ignored. The heat transfer in foam concrete is mainly through conduction, but with the decrease in density and the increase in temperature difference, the contribution of conduction shows a downward trend. A Trombe wall is a widely applied heating system that has a single function. An interesting thing is that both the solar heat and UV light received by a Trombe wall have an air sterilization effect. Here, the air sterilization and thermal performances of a Trombe wall in different cities were investigated based on an established heat and mass transfer model. The main results were as follows: (1) UV dose accumulation and high temperature were the most important factors that affect the UV and thermal sterilization performance, respectively. The Trombe wall had the thermal characteristics of high accumulation of UV doses in the morning and afternoon and a high temperature level at noon, which was a good match with the UV and thermal sterilization process. (2) A typical sterilization process in a Trombe wall was divided into three areas: the UV inactivation area, UV and thermal inactivation area and UV inactivation area. (3) The weather conditions played an important role in the sterilization performance. UV sterilization was dominant in cloudy weather, and thermal sterilization was dominant in sunny weather. (4) In Nanjing, Shanghai, Xining and Guangzhou, the average daily clean air volumes in heating months were 39.4, 33.5, 32.2 and 39.8 m3/m2, respectively. In practical applications, rapid prediction and optimization of heat transfer performance are essential for premixed methane impinging flame jets (PMIFJs). This study uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combined with a methane detailed chemical reaction mechanism (GRI–Mech 3.0) to study the equivalence ratio ( ϕ ), Reynolds number ( R e ) of the mixture, and the normalized nozzle–to–plate distance ( H / d ) on the heat transfer performance of PMIFJs. Moreover, the Kriging model (KM) was used to construct a prediction model of PMIFJ heat transfer performance. A genetic algorithm (GA) was used to determine the maximum likelihood function (MLE) of the model parameters for constructing KM and identify the points with the maximum root mean square error (RMSE) as the new infilled points for surrogate–based optimization (SBO). Combining these methods to analyze the simulation results, the results show that the global heat transfer performance of PMIFJs is enhanced with the increase in ϕ , the increase in R e , and the decrease in H / d . Sensitivity analysis points out that R e and ϕ significantly affect enhanced heat transfer, while H / d has a relatively small effect. In addition, GA was also used to search for the optimal heat transfer performance, and the global heat transfer performance at specific conditions was significantly enhanced. In recent years, extensive research has been dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency and promoting environmental sustainability in heating and cooling systems. Among the promising solutions, phase change materials (PCM) technology stands out as a key area of exploration. This study focuses on improving the thermal performance of PCM–water hybrid tanks by investigating methods to enhance thermal conductivity and heat transfer. Through experimental testing using techniques such as copper matrices, steel twisted matrices, and copper spirals, this study demonstrates significant improvements in thermal conductivity, particularly with the use of copper matrices. The integration of a copper matrix placed in the PCM reservoir increased the heat transfer coefficient and thermal conductivity of the PCM, and thus, the total phase transformation time for solidification was reduced by 79.19% and for melting by 54.7%. Our experimental results demonstrate that the integration of a copper matrix can increase latent heat transfer from 55,677.6 J up to 125,274.6 J, marking a 125% enhancement over the experiment with pure PCM. Additionally, comparisons of the energy storage potentials for different PCMs underscore the benefits of integrating PCMs into hybrid storage tanks. A modified parallel model for estimating the thermal conductivity of unsaturated sand was proposed in this study. The heat conduction in the solid phase of sand depends mainly on the form of contacts between solid particles, while water bridges at the particle contacts increase the contact areas and remarkably enlarge the transfer paths of heat conduction in sandy soils. However, the thermal conductivity of the solid particle itself (λs) cannot describe the influence of the form of contacts and water bridges on heat conduction through the solid phase. In this study, the equivalent thermal conductivity of the solid particle (λes) was presented which reflected the influence of the form of contacts and water bridges between particles under dry conditions or a low degree of saturation, respectively. The relationship between λes and degree of saturation was described by hyperbolic expression. The modified model was calibrated using measured values of the thermal conductivity from published datasets, including those for 41 types of sand from 15 studies. Numerical analyses of the temperature field of the energy pile were performed and validated against laboratory measurements. Spontaneous detachment from superhydrophobic surfaces can be induced by the coalescence of two or more adjacent droplets. The phenomena have provided implications for the self-removal of droplets in the fields of self-cleaning, anti-icing, and heat transfer. However, many studies focus mainly on the theoretical jumping direction perpendicular to the substrate, although the velocity in the horizontal direction must be involved in practical applications due to various scenarios. This study analyzes numerically the effect of the distribution in ridge structure's wettability on the performance of coalesced droplet jumping. The jumping dynamics are discussed for varying contact angle ratios and the aspect ratios of the ridge, which are the initial values for the current model. We obtain the height of the jumping and the offset distance in the horizontal direction under the several initial values. In addition, the characteristics of the asymmetric behavior are discussed based on the temporal evolution of the average velocities of the jumping droplets for each direction. Numerical results show that the horizontal offset distance is significantly pronounced at both the high asymmetry in wettability and the high aspect ratio of the ridge geometry. The phenomenon occurs when the droplet detaches from the ridge surface in the retraction process. We determine the role of the distribution within the ridge structure on its wettability, as well as the role of the aspect ratios of the ridge in facilitating the efficient transport of droplets.
