To enhance the heat-transfer performance of scramjet engines, a numerical simulation was conducted on the heat-transfer process of RP-3 aviation kerosene under supercritical pressure within a horizontal micro-fine circular tube. The intrinsic mechanism of the heat-transfer process was analyzed, summarizing the impacts of mass flux, inlet temperature, and gravitational acceleration. Furthermore, four commonly used buoyancy criterion numbers were compared and evaluated. The results indicate that the heat-transfer process can be divided into five phases: heating inlet phase, normal heat-transfer phase, heat-transfer deterioration phase, heat-transfer enhancement phase, and high-temperature normal heat-transfer phase. The heating inlet phase is significantly influenced by the inlet temperature, while the heat-transfer deterioration is affected both by the thermal property variations of the aviation kerosene and the buoyancy effects. Lower mass flux and hypergravity conditions all exacerbate heat-transfer deterioration. Inlet temperature, however, does not affect the heat-transfer pattern. This study presents a one-dimensional mathematical model developed to simulate multi-zone thermal storage systems using phase change materials (PCMs). The model enables precise analysis of temperature distribution in the layered storage based on several PCM configurations and properties. It is distinguished by its adaptability to various tank geometries and the number of PCM capsules, enabling its application under diverse operating conditions. By simplifying the implementation of heat transfer processes that depend on the shape of the capsule and the thermal properties of the PCM, the computation time can be reduced to a level that makes simulations over longer periods feasible. Experimental validation confirmed the accuracy of the model, with deviations below 6%, underscoring its practical applicability. The study demonstrates that individual layering in the storage tank can be achieved by filling it with PCMs of different melting points without compromising the maximum storage capacity. It is shown that including a PCM layer can maintain the outlet temperature 20% longer while storing 14% more energy. The results point out the model's potential to improve the performance of thermal storage systems through targeted PCM layer configurations. The DIGIT experiment was launched at the Tournemire Underground Research Laboratory URL with the aim of determining the effects of temperature on the transfer of analogues of most mobile radionuclides (i.e., 36Cl, 129I and 79Se) in the Toarcian clay rock, the properties of which are close to host rocks being considered for future deep geological disposal of high-level (HL) radioactive wastes. The experimental principle involves the monitoring of an exchange between a test water traced with stable halides and deuterium at constant concentration and the porewater of the Toarcian clay rock submitted to various temperatures. This experiment seeks to partially address questions regarding the potential spread of contaminants during the thermal phase of High Level Waste (HLW) waste packages. Specifically, the in situ experiment aims to evaluate the role of scale effects and thermodiffusion, a process that combines Fick's law and the Soret effect, in the transfer of radionuclides. This paper presents the first steps of the study, including the scoping calculations, the experimental set-up and the first results obtained during the unheated phase. The study started with the acquisition of the initial parameters, including the rock thermal properties, the concentrations of the four tracers (chloride, bromide, iodide and deuterium) naturally present in the clay porewater and their diffusive transport parameters by using four diffusion exchange techniques (phase 0). A model coupling heat and mass transfers was then developed using Comsol Multiphysics®, integrating data acquired so far with existing literature data. A test water with a tracer concentration around 1000 times higher than those in the pore water was proposed with a temperature imposed at the test section wall of 70 °C. A large test zone of 50 cm height and 1 m in diameter and installed in a 3 m deep vertical well located in a sound zone at the URL was then proposed. The installation of the experiments required the realization of one shaft and of nine peripheral boreholes for the monitoring of temperature, water pressure and deformation. The experiment started with phase 1, involving a traced, unheated water start-up for a period of 5 months. Then, a core sampling was conducted in the emptied well, and the same diffusion exchange techniques were applied. The results of anionic tracers were compared to simulations based on initial parameters (phase 0), revealing that tracer penetration at the end of phase 1 exceeded simulated values by approximately 2 cm. This result is interpreted as an increase in the accessible porosity to tracers, possibly due to the excavation damaged zone. Future simulations should incorporate these adjusted diffusive transport parameters. Following phase 1, the heating system was activated, applying a temperature of 70 °C to the test zone. In the realm of high-tech materials and energy applications, accurately measuring the transient heat flow at media boundaries and the internal thermal conductivity of materials in harsh heat exchange environments poses a significant challenge when using conventional direct measurement methods. Consequently, the study of photothermal parameter reconstruction in translucent media, which relies on indirect measurement techniques, has crucial practical value. Current research on reconstructing photothermal properties within participating media typically focuses on single-objective or time-invariant properties. There is a pressing need to develop effective methods for the simultaneous reconstruction of time-varying thermal flow fields and internal thermal conductivity at the boundaries of participating media. This paper introduces a computational model based on the numerical simulation theory of internal heat transfer systems in participating media, stochastic particle swarm optimization algorithms, and Kalman filter technology. The model aims to enable the simultaneous reconstruction of various thermal parameters within the target medium. Our results demonstrate that under varying levels of measurement noise, the inversion results for different target parameters exhibit slight oscillations around the true values, leading to a reduction in reconstruction accuracy. Thermal energy storage (TES) using phase change materials (PCMs) is one of the potential solutions for stockpiling thermal energy and utilizing it for different applications, which results in effective energy usage. The main drawback of organic PCMs in practical applications is poor heat transfer due to low thermal conductivity (TC). Therefore, investigations into nano-enhanced PCMs are being explored to improve their thermophysical properties. In this work, the various thermophysical characteristics of nano-enhanced lauryl alcohol as a PCM were investigated using carbon-based and metallic nanoparticles. The results indicated that the addition of nanoparticles improved its thermal properties and affected other physical properties, such as viscosity. The latent heat was degraded with the addition of nanoparticles. The results revealed that by adding MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles, a maximum of 82.6% and 49.6% improvement in TC was achieved, respectively. The maximum drop in latent heat during melting and freezing for the PCM with MWCNTs was about 10.1% and 9.3%, respectively, whereas for the PCM with CuO, they were about 11% and 10.3%, respectively. The lowest supercooling for the PCM with MWCNTs and CuO nanoparticles was 8.6 and 8.3 °C, respectively. This paper presents a detailed exploration of the development and characterization of multifunctional dual-purpose woven fabrics for thermal protective clothing. Through this research, 69 woven fabric prototypes have been carefully designed and produced, integrating various raw materials, yarn, and woven fabric construction parameters, with the aim of optimizing thermal protection properties while ensuring comfort and durability. The analysis led to the identification of two optimal woven fabric samples, which, upon further testing, exhibited exceptional dimensional stability, crease recovery, tear resistance, as well as abrasion and water resistance. Furthermore, the thermal properties were evaluated, demonstrating exceptional flame resistance, limited heat transmission, and high thermal insulation. Additionally, the study evaluated dynamic thermal properties, contact conductive heat transfer, air permeability, water vapour resistance, and thermal resistance of two clothing systems constructed from selected woven fabrics. Statistical analysis confirms significant differences between clothing systems, highlighting the influence of yarn composition and fabric structure on thermal performance and comfort, where one system exhibits better thermal insulation characteristics suitable for colder environments while the other excels in breathability for warmer climates. The developed woven fabrics meet high standards for protective clothing against heat and flame, surpassing currently available comparable woven fabrics on the market in terms of efficacy and performance. Modelling effective thermal properties is crucial for optimizing the thermal performance of materials such as new green insulating fibrous media. In this study, a numerical model is proposed to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of these materials. The fibers are considered to be non-overlapping and randomly oriented in space. The numerical model is based on the finite element method. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of the results and the influence of the choice of the representative elementary volume (REV) for calculation (cubic or rectangular parallelepiped slice). The calculated effective thermal conductivity of fibrous media under different boundary conditions is also investigated. A set of usual mixed boundary conditions is considered, alongside the uniform temperature gradient conditions. The REV rectangular slice and uniform temperature gradient boundary conditions provide a more accurate estimate of the effective thermal conductivity and are therefore recommended for use in place of the usual cubic representative elementary volume and the usual mixed boundary conditions. This robust model represents a principal novelty of the work. The results are compared with experimental and analytical data previously obtained in the literature for juncus maritimus fibrous media, for different fiber volume fractions, with small relative deviations of 7%. Analytical laws are generally based on simplified assumptions such as infinitely long fibers, and may neglect heat transfer between different phases. The use of nanofluids in heat transfer applications has significantly increased in recent times due to their enhanced thermal properties. It is therefore important to investigate the flow behavior and, thus, the rheology of different nanosuspensions to improve heat transfer performance. In this study, the viscosity of a BN-diamond/thermal oil hybrid nanofluid is predicted using four machine learning (ML) algorithms, i.e., random forest (RF), gradient boosting regression (GBR), Gaussian regression (GR) and artificial neural network (ANN), as a function of temperature (25–65 °C), particle concentration (0.2–0.6 wt.%), and shear rate (1–2000 s−1). Six different error matrices were employed to evaluate the performance of these models by providing a comparative analysis. The data were randomly divided into training and testing data. The algorithms were optimized for better prediction of 700 experimental data points. While all ML algorithms produced R2 values greater than 0.99, the most accurate predictions, with minimum error, were obtained by GBR. The layered fibers of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites exhibit low thermal conductivity (TC) throughout their thickness due to the poor TC of the polymeric resin. Improved heat transmission inside the hydrogen storage tank during the filling process can reduce further compression work, and improved heat insulation can minimize energy loss. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the thermal properties of composites. This paper reports the thermal behavior of plain-woven CFRP composite using simulation at the micro-, meso-, and macro-scales. The TC was predicted numerically and compared to experimental findings and analytical models. Good results were found. Using the approach of multi-scale modeling, a parametric study was carried out to analyze in depth the influence of certain variables on thermal properties. The study revealed that both fiber volume fraction and temperature significantly influenced the TC of the composite, with the interphase fiber/matrix thickness following closely in terms of impact. Using thermal storage materials with excellent thermal properties in the energy utilization system enables efficient use of renewable energy sources. Organic phase change materials (PCMs) have the advantages of high heat storage density, no corrosion, and low cost, but low thermal conductivity and insufficient heat transfer capacity have always been the bottlenecks in their application. In this paper, melamine foam@ reduction graphene oxide (MF@rGO) and carbon foam@ reduction graphene oxide (CF@rGO) composite foams with double carbon networks were prepared by self-assembly method and further employed in 1-octadecinal (OD) PCMs. The microstructure, chemical composition, phase change behavior, thermal conductivity, and photothermal conversion performance of MF@rGO/OD and CF@rGO/OD were studied in detail using SEM, FTIR, Raman DSC, and LFA. The melting and solidification enthalpies of CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs were 208.3 J/g and 191.4 J/g, respectively, its thermal conductivity increased to 1.54 W/m·K, which is 6.42 times that of pure OD. The porous structure and high thermal conductivity of the double carbon network substantially enhance the efficiency of energy storage and release in composite PCMs. CF@rGO/OD composite PCMs have excellent heat storage performance and heat transfer capacity, and a wide range of application prospects in the fields of low-temperature solar heat storage, precision instrument temperature control, and intelligent buildings. Many studies on magnetorheological fluid (MRF) have been carried out over the last three decades, highlighting several salient advantages, such as a fast phase change, easy control of the yield stress, and so forth. In particular, several review articles of MRF technology have been reported over the last two decades, summarizing the development of MRFs and their applications. As specific examples, review articles have been published that include the optimization of the particles and carrier liquid to achieve minimum off-state viscosity and maximum yield stress at on-state, the formulation of many constitutive models including the Casson model and the Herschel–Bulkley (H–B) model, sedimentation enhancement using additives and nanosized particles, many types of dampers for automotive suspension and civil structures, medical and rehabilitation devices, MRF polishing technology, the methods of magnetic circuit design, and the synthesis of various controllers. More recently, the effect of the temperature and thermal conductivity on the properties of MRFs and application systems are actively being investigated by several works. However, there is no review article on this issue so far, despite the fact that the thermal problem is one of the most crucial factors to be seriously considered for the development of advanced MRFs and commercial products of application systems. In this work, studies on the thermal conductivity and temperature in MRFs themselves and their temperature-dependent application systems are reviewed, respectively, and principal results are summarized, emphasizing the following: how to reduce the temperature effect on the field-dependent properties of MRFs and how to design an application system that minimizes the thermal effect. The paper presents theoretical, experimental and numerical studies on the thermal behavior of mineral wool used in sandwich panels. The aim of this study is to investigate the thermal properties of mineral wool at elevated temperatures and provide a simple model that would allow us to determine the heat propagation in sandwich panels during a fire. The paper proposes a new method to experimentally evaluate thermal diffusivity, derived from theoretical premises. Experiments are conducted in a laboratory furnace where specimens are placed and temperatures inside specimens are measured. Different methods are used to process the test results and calculate the thermal diffusivity of mineral wool. The thermal insulation properties of building walls are critical to the overall energy efficiency and comfort of a building. One important factor that can affect these properties is the type of bricks used in construction. Bricks can vary in their geometry and thermal coefficient, which can impact their ability to transfer heat through the wall. The geometry of a brick can affect its thermal properties by altering the amount of air trapped within it and the surface area available for heat transfer. Hollow bricks or those with complex geometries may have lower thermal conductivity than regular solid bricks due to the air pockets trapped within them. Conversely, larger surface areas on the exterior of the brick can increase heat transfer. The thermal coefficient of clay, a common material used in brick production, is another important factor. Clay has relatively low thermal conductivity, meaning it is a poor conductor of heat. However, the quality of the clay, as well as the firing temperature and duration used in brick production, can impact its thermal coefficient. Higher firing temperatures and longer firing times can result in a more compact and dense clay brick, which can improve its thermal properties. The temperature distribution in a conductive-radiative rectangular profiled annular fin with internal heat generation is scrutinized in the present investigation. The nonlinear variation of thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient governed by the power law is considered. The analytical approximation for the non-dimensional temperature profile is obtained using the differential transform method (DTM)-Pade approximant. The nondimensionalization of the governing energy equation using dimensionless terms yields a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) with corresponding boundary conditions. The resulting ODE is analytically solved with the assistance of the DTM-Pade approximant procedure. Furthermore, the impact of thermal parameters on the temperature field and thermal stress is elaborated with graphs. The important results of the report divulge that temperature distribution greatly enhances with an augmentation of the heat generation parameter, but it gradually reduces with an increment in the magnitude of the thermogeometric and radiative-conductive parameter. The suspension of different nanoparticles into various conventional thermal fluids to synthesize nanofluids has been proven to possess superior thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, and the heat transfer performance over conventional thermal fluids. This task appears trivial but is complicated and significant to nanofluid synthesis and its subsequent utilization in diverse applications. The stability of mono and hybrid nanofluids is significantly related to stirring duration and speed; volume, density, and base fluid type; weight/volume concentration, density, nano-size, and type of mono or hybrid nanoparticles used; type and weight of surfactant used; and sonication time, frequency, mode, and amplitude. The effects of these parameters on stability consequently affect the thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, and the heat transfer performance of nanofluids in various applications, leading to divergent, inaccurate, and suspicious results. Disparities in results have inundated the public domain in this regard. Thus, this study utilized published works in the public domain to highlight the trend in mono or hybrid nanofluid formulation presently documented as the norm, with the possibility of changing the status quo. With the huge progress made in this research area in which a large quantum of different nanoparticles, base fluids, and surfactants have been deployed and more are still emerging in the application of these advanced thermal fluids in diverse areas, there is a need for conformity and better accuracy of results. Reproduction of results of stability, thermal, optical, tribological, anti-wear, and fuel properties; photothermal conversion; and supercooling, lubrication, engine, combustion, emission, thermo-hydraulic, and heat transfer performances of formulated mono or hybrid nanofluids are possible through the optimization and detailed documentation of applicable nanofluid preparation parameters (stirring time and speed, sonication duration, amplitude, mode, frequency, and surfactant concentration) employed in formulating mono or hybrid nanofluids. The main objective of this paper was to investigate the heat transfer of modified lightweight refractory concrete at the microscopic scale. In this work, such material was treated as a porous composite based on the compound of calcium aluminate cement and aluminosilicate cenospheres. The presence of air inclusions within the cenospheres was an essential factor in the reduction in thermal performance. Due to the intricacy of the subject investigated, our research employed numerical, theoretical, and experimental approaches. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging was performed to study the composite microstructure with a special focus on geometry, dimensions, and the distribution of cenospheres. Based on the experimental analysis, simplified geometrical models were generated to reproduce the main features of the composite matrix and cenospheres. A finite element framework was used to determine the effective thermal conductivity of such domains as well as the thermal stresses generated in the sample during the heat flow. A considerable difference in thermal properties was revealed by comparing the simulation results of the pure composite matrix and the samples, indicating a varying arrangement of cenosphere particles. The numerical results were complemented by a theoretical study that applied analytical models derived from the two-phase mixture theory—parallel and Landauer. A satisfactory agreement between numerical and theoretical results was achieved; however, the extension of both presented approaches is required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanofluids (NFs) synthesized via the suspension of diverse nanoparticles into conventional thermal fluids are known to exhibit better thermal, optical, tribological, and convective properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance in comparison with traditional thermal fluids. Stability is pivotal to NF preparation, properties, performance, and application. NF preparation is not as easy as it appears, but complex in that obtaining a stable NF comes with the harnessing of different preparation parameters. These parameters include stirring duration and speed, volume, density, base fluid type, weight/volume concentration, density, nano-size, type of mono or hybrid nanoparticles used, type and quantity of surfactant used, and sonication time, temperature, mode, frequency, and amplitude. The effect of these preparation parameters on the stability of mono and hybrid NFs consequently affects the thermal, optical, rheological, and convective properties, and photothermal conversion and heat transfer performances of NFs in various applications. A comprehensive overview of the influence of these preparation characteristics on the thermal, optical, rheological, and properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance is presented in this paper. This is imperative due to the extensive study on mono and hybrid NFs and their acceptance as advanced thermal fluids along with the critical importance of stability to their properties and performance. The various preparation, characterization, and stability methods deployed in NF studies have been compiled and discussed herein. In addition, the effect of the various preparation characteristics on the properties (thermal, optical, rheological, and convective), photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performances of mono and hybrid NFs have been reviewed. The need to achieve optimum stability of NFs by optimizing the preparation characteristics is observed to be critical to the obtained results for the properties, photothermal conversion, and heat transfer performance studies. As noticed that the preparation characteristics data are not detailed in most of the published works and thus making it mostly impossible to reproduce NF experimental studies, stability, and results; future research is expected to address this gap. Knowledge of the thermal and dielectric properties of wolfberries is essential for understanding the heat transfer and the interaction between the electromagnetic field (10–3000 MHz) and the sample during radio frequency (RF) and microwave (MW) drying. The thermal and dielectric properties of wolfberries were determined as influenced by moisture content from 15.1% to 75.2%, w.b.) and temperature from 25 to 85 °C. The results showed that as the moisture content increased from 15.1% to 75.2% (w.b.), the true density of wolfberries decreased, but the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity increased with increasing temperature and moisture content. The dielectric properties (DPs) of wolfberries decreased with increasing frequency from 10 to 3000 MHz. The dielectric constant increased with increasing temperature at lower a moisture content (below 45% w.b.) but decreased with increasing temperature at a high moisture content (above 60% w.b.). The cubic and quadratic polynomial models (R2 = 0.977 − 0.997) were best for fitting the dielectric constant and loss factor at four representative frequencies of 27, 40, 915, and 2450 MHz, respectively. The penetration depth increased with the decreased frequency, temperature, and moisture content, and was greater at RF frequencies than MW range, making the RF heating more effective for drying bulk wolfberries. This study investigates the thermal-stress characteristics of a bi-metallic Ti-6Al-4V-Nitinol butt joints manufactured via laser welding. Particularly, the thermal profile along the weld interface and the deformation profile of the finished welded workpiece. A decoupled transient thermomechanical simulation model was constructed to recreate the welding process. This decoupled thermomechanical simulation model consisted of two transient simulation models. A transient thermal simulation model and a transient structural simulation model, with the thermal history of the transient thermal model being fed into the transient structural model. Both the thermal and structural portions of the model utilized temperature-dependent thermal and structural properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Nitinol. The temperature profile of the transient thermal-stress model aligns with the experimental thermal profile within 5% error. The deformation profile also matches the experimental results within 5% error. This approach to modeling laser welding can stand as a guide to predict both thermal and deformation profiles generated during the laser welding process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The design of medium- to high-frequency power electronics transformer aims not only to minimize the power loss in the windings and the core, but its heat removal features should also allow optimal use of both core and copper. The heat removal feature (e.g., thermal conduction) of a transformer is complex because there exist multiple loss centers. The bulk of total power loss is concentrated around a small segment of the core assembly where windings are overlaid. The primary winding is most constrained thermally. For superior use of core and copper, the temperature rise in different segments of the transformer should be well below their respective safe operating limits. In practice, cores of same soft-magnetic materials are traditionally used. To achieve superior temperature profile and for better long-term performance, this article proposes to use the mixed-core configuration. The new core(s) would replace the parent ones from the segment where windings are laid. The characteristic features of new cores would share increased burden of heat removal from the transformer. To obtain the qualitative insight of magnetic and thermal performance, the proposed mixed-core transformer would be thoroughly validated practically in two different high-power applications. A firefighter in the wildland fields spends an average of 8 to 16 h during which he encounters enormous physical effort and very demanding outdoor conditions of high temperatures. Research shows that the most common injuries are due to the occurrence of heat stress, and not due to lack of protection against burns. Therefore, for this very specific field of firefighting, it is necessary to provide clothing that will, in addition to adequate flame protection, provide good comfort properties such as lightweight suits, good porosity and breathability, so that gaseous sweat and heat generated by body heating can be released into the environment. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of structural parameters of multi-weft woven fabrics on two mutually contradictory properties—breathability and thermal protection. When designing fabrics, the goal was to produce a structure with a high proportion of volume pores, which, regardless of the increased volume of the fabric, insure the fabric mass would be acceptably small. Volume pores in the fabric have two roles—as a heat insulator and as an inhibitor of the breathability of the material. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the thickness and mass of the fabric have a greater influence on the water vapor resistance, while the heat transmission property is more affected by the thickness, porosity and fiber content. Device optimization plays a paramount role in current research on magnetic refrigeration. Solid state refrigerants have been characterized and numerical simulations assume a critical relevance in the development of magnetocaloric technology to have alternatives to vapour-compression systems whose operating elements have high global warming potential. Experimental studies have shown that the thermal properties of several magnetocaloric materials considerably change around their Curie temperatures ( T C ) and that this temperature dependency should not be dismissed. Current numerical research does not fully predict the complete thermal response of such materials, due to inaccuracies from neglecting the impact of combining both thermal conductivity (k) and specific heat ( C p ) dependence on temperature. In this study, a simple unidimensional model includes k (T) and C p (T) functions as input parameters, highlighting the relevance of considering temperature dependent thermophysical properties' inputs when simulating the magnetic refrigerant's heat transfer processes. The obtained results evidence that neglecting the temperature dependence of the magnetocaloric material thermophysical properties, namely its thermal conductivity and its specific heat, affects its temperature response, what may strongly affect the results after a succession of (hundreds or thousands) cycles. This paper considers the artificial freezing of an argillite-like clay layer containing a NaCl salt solution in its pore space. The experimental results of the thermophysical properties of the clay with various salinities and water content in soil samples are presented. We determine the parameters of the soil freezing characteristic curves, the dependences of the specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity based on temperature and salinity. These parameters are used in the formulation of a simple thermodynamic model for the artificial freezing of a clay layer with a single freezing pipe. The model includes diffusive transfer of heat and salt concentration, as well as salt precipitation when the eutectic point is reached. The motivation for using the simplified model is to understand the general patterns of soil freezing when considering the effect of salinity, as well as to test the proposed numerical finite-difference algorithm for solving the problem of freezing a clay layer based on the method of equivalent heat capacities. Using the algorithm, we analyzed the regularities of the redistribution of dissolved and precipitated salt in frozen soil, and also evaluated the effect of diffusive salt transfer on the numerical solution. Many efforts have recently concentrated on constructing and developing nanoparticles (NPs) as promising thermal agent for optical hyperthermia and photothermal therapy. However, thermal energy transfer in biological tissue is a complex process involving different mechanisms such as conduction, convection, radiation. Therefore, having information about thermal properties of tissue especially when NPs are embedded in is a necessity for predicting the heat transfer during hyperthermia. In this work, the thermal properties of solid phantom based on agar in the presence of three different nanoparticles (BPSi, tNAs, GNRs) and alone were measured and reported as a function of temperature (ranging from 22 to 62 °C). The thermal response of these NPs to an 808 nm laser beam with three different powers were studied in the water comparatively. Agar and tNAs have almost constant thermal properties in the considered range. Among the three NPs, gold has the highest conductivity and diffusivity. At 62 °C BPSi NPs have the similar amount of increase for the diffusivity. The thermal parameters reported in this paper can be useful for the mathematical modeling. Irradiation of the NPs-loaded water phantom displayed the highest radiosensitivity of gold among the three mentioned NPs. However, for the higher power of irradiation, BPSi and tNAs NPs showed the increased absorption of heat during shorter time and the increased temperature gradient slope for the initial 15 s after the irradiation started. The three NPs showed different thermal and irradiation response behavior; however, this comparison study notes the worth of having information about thermal parameters of NPs-loaded tissue for pre-clinical planning. In this review work, the recent progress made in the use of nanofluids (NFs) applied in three specific areas will be presented: machining, solar energy, and biomedical engineering. Within this context, the discussions will be guided by emphasizing the thermal and stability properties of these fluids. In machining, NFs play a prominent role in the processes of turning, milling, drilling, and grinding, being responsible for their optimization as well as improving the useful life of the tools and reducing costs. In the solar energy field, NFs have been used in the thermal management of the panels, controlling and homogenizing the operating temperature of these systems. In the biomedical area, the advantages of using NFs come from the treatment of cancer cells, the development of vaccines before the improvement of diagnostic imaging, and many others. In all lines of research mentioned in this study, the main parameters that have limited or encouraged the use of these fluids are also identified and debated. Featured Application: Microencapsulation of alkali metal nitrates for latent heat storage in concentrated solar power plants has the potential to reduce salt corrosion in storage tanks and installations. Microencapsulation of sodium nitrate (NaNO3) as phase change material for high temperature thermal energy storage aims to reduce costs related to metal corrosion in storage tanks. The goal of this work was to test in a prototype thermal energy storage tank (16.7 L internal volume) the thermal properties of NaNO3 microencapsulated in zinc oxide shells, and estimate the potential of NaNO3–ZnO microcapsules for thermal storage applications. A fast and scalable microencapsulation procedure was developed, a flow calorimetry method was adapted, and a template document created to perform tank thermal transfer simulation by the finite element method (FEM) was set in Microsoft Excel. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and transient plane source (TPS) methods were used to measure, in small samples, the temperature dependency of melting/solidification heat, specific heat, and thermal conductivity of the NaNO3–ZnO microcapsules. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and chemical analysis demonstrated the stability of microcapsules over multiple tank charge–discharge cycles. The energy stored as latent heat is available for a temperature interval from 303 to 285 °C, corresponding to onset–offset for NaNO3 solidification. Charge–self-discharge experiments on the pilot tank showed that the amount of thermal energy stored in this interval largely corresponds to the NaNO3 content of the microcapsules; the high temperature energy density of microcapsules is estimated in the range from 145 to 179 MJ/m3. Comparison between real tank experiments and FEM simulations demonstrated that DSC and TPS laboratory measurements on microcapsule thermal properties may reliably be used to design applications for thermal energy storage. The paper focuses on the use of holographic interferometry in the research of thermal modification and its effect on the heat transfer from the wood surface to the surrounding air. In the experiment, spruce wood samples modified at 160 °C, 180 °C, 200 °C, 220 °C and an unmodified control sample were used. A radiant heat source was placed under the sample. The top of the sample represented the boundary where the observed heat transfer occurred. The temperature fields above the sample were visualized by real-time holographic interferometry and the heat transfer coefficient α was calculated from the obtained interferograms. During the heating of the samples, a decrease of the heat transfer coefficient was observed. The heat transfer coefficient of the control unmodified sample decreased from a maximum of α = 22.66 Wm–2K–1 to a minimum of α = 8.6 Wm–2K–1. In comparison with these values, the heat transfer coefficients of the modified samples treated at 160, 180, 200 and 220 °C, respectively, decreased to 99%, 93%, 68% and 51% of the maximal control value at the beginning of experiment and to 95%, 86%, 80% and 64% of the minimal control value by the end of the experiment. Moreover, an analysis of variance was used to determine the significance of the heat treatment effect on the heat transfer coefficient. A high significance (p < 5%) was observed between the control sample and the modified samples treated at 200 °C and 220 °C. The hot-wall heat exchanger (HWHE) has been widely used in thermal engineering fields such as ceiling radiant heating/cooling, refrigerator condenser, solar heat collection, and high-temperature heat recovery. However, the numerical simulation normally used for heat transfer prediction in HWHE is usually not as convenient as the analytic solutions in engineering applications. In this paper, a new heat transfer mathematical model of HWHE-based on analytic solutions was developed, which could be much faster to obtain the heat transfer properties of HWHE. The proposed model was validated under four conditions with literature values, which showed that the deviations of heat flux are 2.53%, 0.99%, 2.12%, and 1.96%, indicating its accuracy is satisfied. The model was then used to analyze the thermal property of HWHE. The results show the thermal resistance caused by panel with heat convection and conduction accounts for 96.54% of HWHE thermal resistance, and the thermal resistance caused by heat convection on the surface of panel is 74.43%. The analyzation results also show that adding aluminum foil around pipes could decrease HWHE thermal resistance by 5.11%. Besides, the influence of pipe diameters, pipe distance, pipe heat conductivity, side wall heat conductivity, and convective heat transfer coefficient on the heat transfer performance of HWHE was analyzed. This paper discusses the effect of doping of electro-insulating liquids with nanoparticle materials on the thermal properties of the obtained nanoliquids and heat transport in the transformer. Mineral oil, synthetic ester, and natural ester were used as base liquids. The effectiveness of doping base liquids with nanoparticles was supported by ultraviolet-visible (UV/VIS) measurements. In turn, Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) confirmed the absence of intermolecular interactions (i.e., hydrogen bonding). The influence of modification of electro-insulating liquids with fullerene C60 and titanium dioxide TiO2 nanoparticles on such thermal properties as thermal conductivity, specific heat, kinematic viscosity, density, and thermal expansion was investigated. Based on these properties and the theory of similarity, the cooling efficiency of the transformer filled with the analyzed nanofluids was determined. Nanofluids' cooling effectiveness was compared with the cooling effectiveness of the base liquids. This comparison was supported by an analysis of Grashof, Prandtl, and Nusselt numbers. It has been shown that the modification of electro-insulating liquids with nanoparticles widely used in order to improve their dielectric properties, such as C60 and TiO2, does not have a significant influence on their thermal properties. The addition of fullerene C60 caused an increase in kinematic viscosity, which was compensated by the increase in specific heat. In the case of TiO2, the addition of this nanoparticle resulted in an increase in kinematic viscosity and a decrease in specific heat, which were balanced out by the increase in thermal conductivity. The paper presents the different properties of phase change material (PCM) and Microencapsulated phase change material (MEPCM) employed to cold storage/transportation system with a solar-driven cooling cycle. Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) tests have been performed to analyze the materials enthalpy, melting temperature range, and temperature range of solidification. KD2 Pro is used to test the thermal conductivities of phase change materials slurry and the results were used to compare the materials heat transfer performance. The slurry flow characteristics of MEPCM slurry also have been tested. Furthermore, in order to analyze the improvement effect on stability, the stability of MEPCM slurry with different surfactants have been tested. The researches of the PCM and MEPCM thermal properties revealed a more prospective application for phase change materials in energy storage/transportation systems. In this present study, numerical and theoretical analysis were both used to investigate the effect of the variable baffle spacing on the thermal characteristics of a small shell and tube heat exchanger. The numerical study was performed by using a three dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method and the computations were performed under steady-state conditions. We employed five different cases where the first had equal baffle spacing and the others had variable ones considering different configurations for balancing the pressure drop on the shell side. Theoretical calculations were run using the Bell-Delaware and Kern methods which are the most commonly used methods in the available literature. We show that the thermal performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger can be improved by evaluating together the results of the CFD and Bell-Delaware methods. From the numerical results, we can say that variable spacing with centered baffle spacing scheme can be proposed as an alternative shell side construction layout compared to an equal baffle spacing scheme. We demonstrate the synergistic use of surface air temperature retrieved from AMSR-E (Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on Earth observing satellite) and two vegetation indices (VIs) from the shorter wavelengths of MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) to characterize cropland phenology in the major grain production areas of Northern Eurasia from 2003-2010. We selected 49 AMSR-E pixels across Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan, based on MODIS land cover percentage data. AMSR-E air temperature growing degree-days (GDD) captures the weekly, monthly, and seasonal oscillations, and well correlated with station GDD. A convex quadratic (CxQ) model that linked thermal time measured as growing degree-days to accumulated growing degree-days (AGDD) was fitted to each pixel's time series yielding high coefficients of determination (0.88 ⩽ r2 ⩽ 0.98). Deviations of observed GDD from the CxQ model predicted GDD by site corresponded to peak VI for negative residuals (period of higher latent heat flux) and low VI at beginning and end of growing season for positive residuals (periods of higher sensible heat flux). Modeled thermal time to peak, i.e., AGDD at peak GDD, showed a strong inverse linear trend with respect to latitude with r2 of 0.92 for Russia and Kazakhstan and 0.81 for Ukraine. MODIS VIs tracked similar seasonal responses in time and space and were highly correlated across the growing season with r2 > 0.95. Sites at lower latitude (⩽49°N) that grow winter and spring grains showed either a bimodal growing season or a shorter unimodal winter growing season with substantial inter-annual variability, whereas sites at higher latitude (⩾56°N) where spring grains are cultivated exhibited shorter, unimodal growing seasons. Sites between these extremes exhibited longer unimodal growing seasons. At some sites there were shifts between unimodal and bimodal patterns over the study period. Regional heat waves that devastated grain production in 2007 in Ukraine and in 2010 in Russia and Kazakhstan appear clearly anomalous. Microwave based surface air temperature data holds great promise to extend to parts of the planet where the land surface is frequently obscured by clouds, smoke, or aerosols, and where routine meteorological observations are sparse or absent. The main concern of the present article is to study steady magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow, heat transfer and entropy generation past a permeable rotating disk using a semi numerical/analytical method named Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM). The results of the present study are compared with numerical quadrature solutions employing a shooting technique with excellent correlation in special cases. The entropy generation equation is derived as a function of velocity, temperature and concentration gradients. Effects of flow physical parameters including magnetic interaction parameter, suction parameter, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, Soret and Dufour number on the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration distributions as well as entropy generation number are analysed and discussed in detail. Results show that increasing the Soret number or decreasing the Dufour number tends to decrease the temperature distribution while the concentration distribution is enhanced. In response to the rising need for flexible and lightweight materials capable of efficient heat transport, many studies have been conducted to improve the thermal properties of polymers via nanofillers. Among the various nanofillers, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as the most promising, owing to their excellent thermal and electrical properties. Accordingly, CNT/polymer composites can be used as flexible and lightweight heat transfer materials, owing to their low density. In this study, we fabricated multi-walled CNT (MWCNT)/polymer composites with different aspect ratios to investigate their effects on electrical and thermal properties. Through a three-roll milling process, CNTs were uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix to form a conductive network. Enhanced electrical and thermal properties were observed in MWCNT composite with a high aspect ratio as compared to those with a low aspect ratio. Cereal straw is an environmentally friendly, rapidly renewable, and sustainable raw material for manufacturing insulating panels for building engineering. Credible data on thermal properties of insulating panels are crucial for appropriate and accurate design of building envelopes. The objective of the study was to determine and validate thermal properties of the panels made of cereal straw. Specific heat was measured with the calorimetric method. Thermal conductivity was determined with the inverse method and Isomet 2114 instrument, respectively. Both approaches accounted for the temperature influence. The specific heat of the panels was as high as 1600 J/(kg·K), while the thermal conductivity varied in the range from 0.025 to 0.075 W/(m·K) depending on the applied experimental method. The studied properties were validated and their credibility was assessed. Wearable electronics are new structures with a wide range of possible applications. This study aims to analyze the effects of hot pressing in thermal transfer of different carbon-based composites as a new application method of screen-printed electronics on textiles. Flexible heaters were screen-printed on polyethylene terephthalate PET foil with composites based on graphene, carbon black, and graphite with different wt.%, measured and then hot pressed to measure and analyze differences. Research showed that the hot pressing process in thermal transfer resulted in decreased electrical resistance, increased power, and higher maximal temperatures. Best results were achieved with composites based on 12 wt.% graphene with sheet resistance lowered by about 40% and increased power by about 110%. Porous materials are widely used in many heat transfer applications. Modeling porous materials at the microscopic level can accurately incorporate the detailed structure and substance parameters and thus provides valuable information for the complex heat transfer processes in such media. In this study, we use the generalized periodic boundary condition for pore-scale simulations of thermal flows in porous materials. A two-dimensional porous model consisting of circular solid domains is considered, and comprehensive simulations are performed to study the influences on macroscopic thermal conductivity from several microscopic system parameters, including the porosity, Reynolds number, and periodic unit aspect ratio and the thermal conductance at the solid–fluid interface. Our results show that, even at the same porosity and Reynolds number, the aspect ratio of the periodic unit and the interfacial thermal conductance can significantly affect the macroscopic thermal behaviors of porous materials. Qualitative analysis is also provided to relate the apparent thermal conductivity to the complex flow and temperature distributions in the microscopic porous structure. The thermal conductivity of soils is a fundamental parameter for the design of ground-source heat pump systems (GSHPs) and energy geostructures. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of the physical, mineralogical, and thermal characteristics of typical coastal soils from Tabasco, Mexico. Twenty-five soil samples from four different strata were studied using the thermal needle probe method, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, and standard geotechnical soil classification tests. The results showed a significant correlation between the dry density and porosity with the thermal conductivity of the studied samples, which ranged between 1.17 and 2.32 W m−1 K−1. The performed statistical analyses indicated that coarse-grained soils had larger thermal conductivities and higher variability than fine-grained soils. Additionally, the performance of six models to estimate the thermal conductivity of soils was validated against the experimental data. All models provided accurate estimations for fine-grained soils, but only the effective medium theory (EMT) showed an adequate fit for coarse-grained soils. The results represent one of the first datasets for the thermal properties of Mexican soils. They will contribute to the implementation of GSHPs and energy geostructures in the country and locations with similar subsoil conditions, especially where time and resources are not available for their experimental determination. Processing highly flammable products, the oil and gas (O&G) industry can experience major explosions and fires, which may expose pressurized equipment to high thermal loads. In 2020, oil fires occurred at two Norwegian O&G processing plants. To reduce the escalation risk, passive fire protection may serve as a consequence-reducing barrier. For heat or cold conservation, equipment and piping often require thermal insulation, which may offer some fire protection. In the present study, a representative thermal insulation (certified up to 700 °C) was examined with respect to dimensional changes and thermal transport properties after heat treatment to temperatures in the range of 700 °C to 1200 °C. Post heat treatment, the thermal conductivity of each test specimen was recorded at ambient temperature and up to 700 °C, which was the upper limit for the applied measurement method. Based on thermal transport theory for porous and/or amorphous materials, the thermal conductivity at the heat treatment temperature above 700 °C was estimated by extrapolation. The dimensional changes due to, e.g., sintering, were also analyzed. Empirical equations describing the thermal conductivity, the dimensional changes and possible crack formation were developed. It should be noted that the thermal insulation degradation, especially at temperatures approaching 1200 °C, is massive. Thus, future numerical modeling may be difficult above 1150 °C, due to abrupt changes in properties as well as crack development and crack tortuosity. However, if the thermal insulation is protected by a thin layer of more robust material, e.g., passive fire protection to keep the thermal insulation at temperatures below 1100 °C, future modeling seems promising. Polyurea nano-encapsulated phase change materials (PUA-NEPCMs) were prepared from an n-octadecane core and through the formation of amide bonds by the reaction of toluene 2,4-diisocyanate and poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) sodium salt (PSSMA), followed by the subsequent formation of a PUA shell using a miniemulsion system. The effects of the synthetic conditions on the thermal properties and encapsulat ion effect of the NEPCMs were systematically investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed that the melting enthalpy and encapsulation efficiency of the PUA-NEPCMs prepared under optimal conditions reached 123.00 J/g and 54.27%, respectively. Although previous results suggested that the introduction of PSSMA results in a reduced heat transfer performance for NEPCMs, DSC analysis of the prepared PUA-NEPCMs showed that increasing PSSMA contents enhanced the heat transfer performance due to a decrease in the degree of supercooling. The materials and the technology used to build the ground heat exchangers significantly affect the heat transfer performance of a geothermal system, in addition to the local geological and hydrogeological context. Among expense items such as the coupled heat pumps and the applied drilling technology, the heat exchangers play a key role in the shallow geothermal market. For this reason, they are usually made with plastic. Metal tubes are not widely used because of corrosion issues, which can compromise the reliability of the system over time. According to best practices, metal is an unfavorable choice if the pipes are not made of corrosion resistant alloys, such as stainless steel, but the overall performance is strongly related to the heat transfer efficiency. In this study, laser-flash technique is applied on carbon steel samples with anti-corrosion coatings and on corrosion resistant materials (stainless steel grades used for pipes), thus, allowing the comparison of their thermophysical properties. These properties are used to evaluate each solution in terms of thermal resistance. Ground thermal properties are the design basis of ground source heat pumps (GSHP). However, effective ground thermal properties cannot be obtained through the traditional thermal response test (TRT) method when it is used in the coaxial borehole heat exchanger (CBHE). In this paper, an improved TRT (ITRT) method for CBHE is proposed, and the field ITRT, based on the actual project, is carried out. The high accuracy of the new method is verified by laboratory experiments. Based on the results of the ITRT and laboratory experiment, the 3D numerical model for CBHE is established, in which the flow directions, sensitivity analysis of heat transfer characteristics, and optimization of circulation flow rate are studied, respectively. The results show that CBHE should adopt the anulus-in direction under the cooling condition, and the center-in direction under the heating condition. The influence of inlet temperature and flow rate on heat transfer rate is more significant than that of the backfill grout material, thermal conductivity of the inner pipe, and borehole depth. This work is the first attempt to prepare microporous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fibrous layers embedded with aerogels/phase change materials. For preparation of this layer, the needle-less electrospray technology of water dispersion of individual components is used. Microstructure characteristics, including surface morphology and particle size distribution, and various properties of the prepared materials were investigated and explained. Transport performance of the fibrous layers embedded with aerogels/phase change materials, such as the transmission of heat, air, and water vapor was evaluated and discussed in details. It was found that the electro-sprayed materials composed by spherical particles with rough surface had compact disordered stacking structure. Aerogels and phase change materials (PCMs) play different roles in determining structural parameters and transport properties of the materials. Those parameters and properties could be flexibly adjusted by optimizing the spinning parameters, changing the content or proportion of the fillers to meet specific requirements. These devices utilize conversion of acoustic power and heat energy to generate the desired cooling. The stack plays a pivotal role in the performance of Standing Wave Thermoacoustic Refrigerators (SWTARs), as the heat transfer takes place across it. Performance of stacks can be significantly improved by making an arrangement of different materials inside the stack, resulting in anisotropic thermal properties along the length. In the present numerical study, the effect of multi-layered stack on the refrigeration performance of a SWTAR has been evaluated in terms of temperature drop across the stack, acoustic power consumed and device Coefficient of Performance (COP). Two different aspects of multi-layered stack, namely, different material combinations and different lengths of stacked layers, have been investigated. The combinations of four stack materials and length ratios have been investigated. The numerical results showed that multi-layered stacks produce lower refrigeration temperatures, consume less energy and have higher COP value than their homogeneous counterparts. Among all the material combinations of multi-layered stack investigated, stacks composed of a material layer with low thermal conductivity at the ends, i.e., RVC, produced the best performance with an increase of 26.14% in temperature drop value, reduction in the acoustic power consumption by 4.55% and COP enhancement of 5.12%. The results also showed that, for a constant overall length, an increase in length of side stacked material layer results in an increase in values of both temperature drop and COP. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMCs) exhibit unique properties that make them of interest for catalysis, sensing or energy storage applications. However, few studies have been performed into nanofluids based on TMCs for heat transfer applications. In this study, nanofluids based on 2D-WS2 are prepared by liquid phase exfoliation to analyze their potential usage in concentrating solar power plants. Periodic-Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were performed to rationalize the success of the exfoliation process. The hydrogen bond interaction between the hydroxyl group from PEG, which acts as a surfactant, and the S atoms of the WS2 surface stabilizes the nanosheets in the fluid. Electron localization function (ELF) analysis is indicative of the stability of the S–H interaction from WS2 with the molecules of surfactant due to the tendency to interact through weak intermolecular forces of van der Waals solids. Moreover, improvements in thermal properties were also found. Isobaric specific heat increased by up to 10% and thermal conductivity improved by up to 37.3%. The high stability of the nanofluids and the thermal improvements were associated with the high surface area of WS2 nanosheets. In the present work, sustainable rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF) reinforced with chicken feathers (CF) were prepared and characterized. The bio-based polyol used to formulate the foams was obtained from castor oil. This investigation reports the influence of the chicken feathers fibers as reinforcement of RPUF, on water absorption, thermal, mechanical and morphological properties (field-emission scanning electron microscope—FESEM) and thermal conductivity on water-blown biofoams. It was found that the biofoams improved thermal insulating properties when CF was added. The addition of CF to foams provided lower heat flux density to the biofoams obtaining bio-based materials with better insulation properties. The results obtained in this study proved that the incorporation of CF to RPUF modified the cell structure of the foams affecting their physical and mechanical properties, as well as functional properties such as the heat transmission factor. These biofoams containing up to 45% of bio-based materials have shown the potential to replace fully petroleum-based foams in thermal insulation applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Novel materials have been recently developed for coping with various environmental factors. Generally, to improve the thermal comfort to humans in cold environments, securing an air layer is important. Therefore, this study analyzed the thermal properties of 3D spacer technical materials, 3D printed using thermoplastic polyurethane, according to the structural changes. Four 3D spacer technical material structures were designed with varying pore size and thickness. These samples were moved into a cold climate chamber (temperature 5 ± 1 °C, relative humidity (60 ± 5)%, wind velocity ≤0.2 m/s) and placed on a heating plate set to 30 °C. The surface and internal temperatures were measured after 0, 10, 20, and 30 min and then 10 min after turning off the heating plate. When heat was continuously supplied, the 3D spacer technical material with large pores and a thick air layer showed superior insulation among the materials. However, when no heat was supplied, the air gap thickness dominantly affected thermal insulation, regardless of the pore size. Hence, increasing the air gap is more beneficial than increasing the pore size. Notably, we found that the air gap can increase insulation efficiency, which is of importance to the new concept of 3D printing an interlining. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents a model for simulating the microscopic heat transfer processes in a wood-metal composite material. The model was developed by analyzing the microstructure of experimental samples comprising a melted alloy impregnated in a wood matrix. According to the thermal parameters of the materials and the boundary conditions, an analytical model of microscale heat transfer was established using Abaqus finite element analysis software. The model was validated experimentally by comparing temperature curves obtained via simulation and experiments; the resulting correlation coefficient was 0.96557. We then analyzed the temperature distribution of the composite material with different cell geometries and heat transfer conditions (heat transfer direction and applied temperature). The thermal properties of the unit cell models were in good agreement with the general trends predicted by several heat transfer equations. This study provides a method for analyzing the microscale heat transfer process in wood-based composites. In addition, the model framework characteristics can be used to evaluate the heat transfer mechanism of impregnated modified wood. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Knowledge of the thermal diffusivity D and thermal conductivity κ of olivine and its high-pressure polymorphs, wadsleyite and ringwoodite, is crucial to understand the heat transfer efficiency and thermal structure of Earth's mantle. In the last few decades, great progress has been made in measurement techniques and experimental results seeking to determine the thermophysical properties of geomaterials. The aim of this paper is to provide a systematic overview of the current knowledge of the thermal transport properties of olivine and its high-pressure polymorphs, their dependence on factors, such as pressure, temperature, and composition, and physical models to describe their variations.
