In this review we describe the reversible photoalignment effect imposed on the director in nematic liquid crystals that provides an approach for fabrication of advanced optically addressed devices. Several new concepts have been developed to render photosensitive materials during the past decade. Functional soft azo dye compounds exhibiting distinct functionalities in response to polarized light are highly desirable for fabrication of optically rewritable electronic paper. An optically rewritable element base using simple and inexpensive materials can potentially enable the development of novel environmentally friendly, paper-like gadgets with improved functionality over regular electronic paper. We argue that an optically rewritable technique is relevant for some applications, where conventional paper might be irrelevant. In particular, we have tested and discussed several techniques of color and 3D image formation. This strategy for fabrication of novel devices offers versatile methods for visualization. We also show that the intensity modulation of the irradiation light has a potential to generate improved grayscale visualization. This principle is based on the statistical distribution control of photosensitive azo dye molecules, driven by the incident polarized light. Featured Application: The design of rockfall protection structures requires information about the falling block volumes. This can be challenging at locations with scarce rockfall records and where block surveys are not feasible. This paper describes and validates a method for estimating rockfall block volumes, based on structural mapping using on photogrammetric techniques. The method can be used for dimensioning rockfall protection structures in cases where data is scarce or not available. The design of rockfall protection structures requires information about the falling block volumes. Computational tools for rockfall trajectory simulation are now capable of modeling block fragmentation, requiring the fragmented volume-relative frequency distribution of rockfalls as input. This can be challenging at locations with scarce or nonexistent rockfall records and where block surveys are not feasible. The work in this paper shows that simple discrete fracture network realizations from structural mapping based on photogrammetric techniques can be used to reliably estimate rock fall block volumes. These estimates can be used for dimensioning rockfall protection structures in cases where data is scarce or not available. The methodology is tested at two sites in the Canadian Cordillera where limestone outcrops have been the source of recurrent rockfalls. The results suggest that fragmentation will largely tend to occur through weak planes and expansion of non-persistent discontinuities, while other block breakage mechanisms exert less influence in the fragmented volume-relative frequency distribution of rockfalls. Therefore, block volume distribution can be estimated using a simple discrete fracture network (DFN) with fully persistent discontinuities. In this paper, based on high-resolution satellite images near an ice bridge in the Canadian Basin, we extracted floe size parameters and analyzed the temporal and spatial variations in the parameters through image processing techniques. The floe area shows a decreasing trend over time, while the perimeter and mean clamped diameter (MCD) exhibit no obvious pattern of change. In addition, the roundness of floes, reflected by shape parameters, generally decreases initially and then increases, and the average roundness of small floes is smaller than that of large floes. To correct the deviations from power law behaviour when assessing the floe size distribution (FSD) with the traditional power law function, the upper-truncated power law distribution function and the Weibull function are selected. The four parameters of the two functions are important parameters for describing the floe size distribution, and L r and L 0 are roughly equal to the maximum calliper diameter and the average calliper diameter of the floes in the region. D in the upper-truncated power law distribution function represents the fractal dimension of the floes, and r in the Weibull function represents the shape parameter of the floes, both of which increase and then decrease with time. In this paper, we investigate the response of the rate of change in the FSD parameter to the differences in the monthly average temperature and find that D , r and air temperature are positively correlated, which verifies the influence of air temperature on the floe size distribution. In the open literature, there are numerous studies on the normal and extreme (flood and drought) behavior of wet and dry periods based on the understanding of the standard precipitation index (SPI), which provides a series of categorizations by considering the standard normal (Gaussian) probability distribution function (PDF). The numerical meaning of each categorization assessment is quite lacking in terms of future predictions of wet and dry period duration based on historical records. This paper presents a new approach for calculating possible formations of future wet and dry period durations based on historical records through an effective fractal geometric forecasting approach. The essence of the proposed methodology is based on the number of dry periods (steps) of non-overlapping monthly duration along consecutive broken line paths in the SPI classification for wet and dry period durations. It has been observed that the plot of periods on double logarithmic paper falls along a straight line against the number of such periods, implying a power function, which is the essence of fractal geometry. Extending the empirically derived straight line provides the number of periods that may occur in the future over a range of SPI levels. This methodology is referred to as SPI fractal (SPIF), and the classic SPI classification is converted into SPIF wet and dry polygons, which provide additional information about the drought period number within a valid polygonal area, compared to the classic SPI results. The wet and dry period features of any hydro-meteorology time series are constrained in SPIF polygons. Predicting urban morphology based on local attributes is an important issue in urban science research. The deep generative models represented by generative adversarial network (GAN) models have achieved impressive results in this area. However, in such methods, the urban morphology is assumed to follow a specific probability distribution and be able to directly approximate the distribution via GAN models, which is not a realistic strategy. As demonstrated by the score-based model, a better strategy is to learn the gradient of the probability distribution and implicitly approximate the distribution. Therefore, in this paper, an urban morphology prediction method based on the conditional diffusion model is proposed. Implementing this approach results in the decomposition of the attribute-based urban morphology prediction task into two subproblems: estimating the gradient of the conditional distribution, and gradient-based sampling. During the training stage, the gradient of the conditional distribution is approximated by using a conditional diffusion model to predict the noise added to the original urban morphology. In the generation stage, the corresponding conditional distribution is parameterized based on the noise predicted by the conditional diffusion model, and the final prediction result is generated through iterative sampling. The experimental results showed that compared with GAN-based methods, our method demonstrated improvements of 5.5%, 5.9%, and 13.2% in the metrics of low-level pixel features, shallow structural features, and deep structural features, respectively. The paper aimed to investigate the influence, on the assessment of the structural safety level of an existing r.c building, of the different choices that the technician in charge of a structural evaluation (the "analyst") can make regarding the structural elements to be tested to obtain a prescribed level of knowledge. To this end, the case study of a reinforced concrete framed structure built in the 1960s in Italy was investigated by means of numerical analyses. The probability distribution of the estimated safety levels was evaluated in the paper by means of a Monte Carlo approach, considering the alternative selections of elements done by a large number of analysts, and the probability of unsuccessful safety estimations is discussed for the knowledge levels considered in the Italian technical codes and the Eurocodes. Accurate and reliable PV power probabilistic-forecasting results can help grid operators and market participants better understand and cope with PV energy volatility and uncertainty and improve the efficiency of energy dispatch and operation, which plays an important role in application scenarios such as power market trading, risk management, and grid scheduling. In this paper, an innovative deep learning quantile regression ultra-short-term PV power-forecasting method is proposed. This method employs a two-branch deep learning architecture to forecast the conditional quantile of PV power; one branch is a QR-based stacked conventional convolutional neural network (QR_CNN), and the other is a QR-based temporal convolutional network (QR_TCN). The stacked CNN is used to focus on learning short-term local dependencies in PV power sequences, and the TCN is used to learn long-term temporal constraints between multi-feature data. These two branches extract different features from input data with different prior knowledge. By jointly training the two branches, the model is able to learn the probability distribution of PV power and obtain discrete conditional quantile forecasts of PV power in the ultra-short term. Then, based on these conditional quantile forecasts, a kernel density estimation method is used to estimate the PV power probability density function. The proposed method innovatively employs two ways of a priori knowledge injection: constructing a differential sequence of historical power as an input feature to provide more information about the ultrashort-term dynamics of the PV power and, at the same time, dividing it, together with all the other features, into two sets of inputs that contain different a priori features according to the demand of the forecasting task; and the dual-branching model architecture is designed to deeply match the data of the two sets of input features to the corresponding branching model computational mechanisms. The two a priori knowledge injection methods provide more effective features for the model and improve the forecasting performance and understandability of the model. The performance of the proposed model in point forecasting, interval forecasting, and probabilistic forecasting is comprehensively evaluated through the case of a real PV plant. The experimental results show that the proposed model performs well on the task of ultra-short-term PV power probabilistic forecasting and outperforms other state-of-the-art deep learning models in the field combined with QR. The proposed method in this paper can provide technical support for application scenarios such as energy scheduling, market trading, and risk management on the ultra-short-term time scale of the power system. The rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles using centralized systems faces significant challenges, including reliability and security vulnerabilities and high latency. This paper introduces a blockchain-enabled authentication and communication network for scalable IoV to enhance security, reduce latency, and relieve the dependency on centralized infrastructures. The network applies blockchain-enabled domain name services and mutual authentication for fault tolerance consensus, such as PBFT and RAFT, featuring a primary layer of road side units and edge servers for inter-vehicle communication and a sub-layer within each vehicle for intra-vehicle communication. The study evaluates various scenarios and assesses roadside unit availability based on random distribution along vehicle routes. This paper also discusses the legal issues involved in the proposed model, highlighting that the IoV system should be governed by a contract-based decentralized IoV system comprising both smart contracts and traditional contracts. The spatial distribution pattern of rural settlements in the Yellow River Basin is scattered and numerous. It is of great significance to study the discrete distribution of rural settlements for achieving high-quality development and promoting rural revitalization strategy. In this paper, we propose an enhanced evaluation model for assessing the spatial distribution dispersion of rural settlements, incorporating the weight of road grade (the road grade refers to the ranking of traffic capacity and importance of a particular type of road, indicating varying levels of time accessibility). We investigate the dispersion characteristics of rural settlements in the Yellow River Basin in 2020, focusing on both county and city scales. Furthermore, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the spatial differentiation and scale effects of dispersion evaluation outcomes and their driving forces. Our findings reveal the following insights: (1) The road grade significantly influences the dispersion evaluation. When considering road grade in the dispersion calculation, the results align more closely with the actual situation. (2) The dispersion of rural settlements in the Yellow River Basin exhibits a decreasing trend from west to east. Specifically, the dispersion is higher in the upper reaches compared to the middle and lower reaches. Both city and county scales show spatial autocorrelation in dispersion, with a positive spatial correlation observed. High dispersion values cluster in the west, while low values concentrate in the east. Notably, the agglomeration degree is more pronounced at the county scale than at the city scale, highlighting more localized patterns of agglomeration and dispersion. (3) The multiscale geographically weighted regression model emerges as the optimal model for analyzing the driving forces of dispersion. At the city scale, factors such as river density, road density, and rural economy negatively impact dispersion. However, at the county scale, average elevation and rural economy positively affect dispersion, whereas river density, road density, and rural population density have a negative influence. By incorporating the weight of road grade into our evaluation model, we provide a more nuanced understanding of the spatial distribution dispersion of rural settlements in the Yellow River Basin. The rudder surfaces and lifting surfaces of a missile are utilized to acquire aerodynamic forces and moments, adjust the missile's attitude, and achieve precise strike missions. However, the harsh flying conditions of missiles make the rudder surfaces and lifting surfaces susceptible to faults. In practical scenarios, there is often a scarcity of fault data, and sometimes, it is even difficult to obtain such data. Currently, data-driven fault detection and localization methods heavily rely on fault data, posing challenges for their applicability. To address this issue, this paper proposes an HBOS (Histogram-Based Outlier Score) online fault-detection method based on statistical distribution. This method generates a fault-detection model by fitting the probability distribution of normal data and incorporates an adaptive threshold to achieve real-time fault detection. Furthermore, this paper abstracts the interrelationships between the missile's flight states and the propagation mechanism of faults into a hierarchical directed graph model. By utilizing bilateral adaptive thresholds, it captures the first fault features of each sub-node and determines the fault propagation effectiveness of each layer node based on the compatibility path principle, thus establishing a fault inference and localization model. The results of semi-physical simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is independent of fault data and exhibits high real-time performance. In multiple sets of simulated tests with randomly parameterized deviations, the fault-detection accuracy exceeds 98% with a false-alarm rate of no more than 0.31%. Guided wave array-based structural health monitoring (SHM) is a promising solution for diagnosing damage in metal-connected structures. In this field, the reconstruction algorithm for probabilistic inspection (RAPID) is one of the most widely used algorithms for performing damage localization. In this paper, a density clustering RAPID based on an array-compensated damage index is proposed. A new probability distribution function was constructed based on a new damage index, which is adaptive to different elements in the sensor array to compensate for performance variation. Then, the imaging matrix of the RAPID algorithm was density-clustered to obtain the location and degree of damage. Finally, the method was verified by experiments on a stiffened aluminum plate. Anomaly detection for network traffic aims to analyze the characteristics of network traffic in order to discover unknown attacks. Currently, existing detection methods have achieved promising results against high-intensity attacks that aim to interrupt the operation of the target system. In reality, attack behaviors that are commonly exhibited are highly concealed and disruptive. In addition, the attack scales are flexible and variable. In this paper, we construct a multiscale network intrusion behavior dataset, which includes three attack scales and two multiscale attack patterns based on probability distribution. Specifically, we propose a stacked ensemble learning-based detection model for anomalous traffic (or SEDAT for short) to defend against highly concealed multiscale attacks. The model employs a random forest (RF)-based method to select features and introduces multiple base learning autoencoders (AEs) to enhance the representation of multiscale attack behaviors. In addressing the challenge of a single model's inability to capture the regularities of multiscale attack behaviors, SEDAT is capable of adapting to the complex multiscale characteristics in network traffic, enabling the prediction of network access behavior. Comparative experiments demonstrate that SEDAT exhibits superior detection capabilities in multiscale network attacks. As one of the largest frequency regulation markets, the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM) market allows extensive access of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). The designed signal regulation D (RegD) is friendly for use with BESSs with a fast ramp rate but limited energy. Designing operating strategies and optimizing the sizing of BESSs in this market are significantly influenced by the regulation signal. To represent the inherent randomness of the RegD signal and reduce the computational burden, typical frequency regulation scenarios with lower resolution are often generated. However, due to the rapid changes and energy neutrality of the RegD signal, generating accurate and representative scenarios presents challenges for the methods based on shape similarity. This paper proposes a novel probability-based method for generating typical regulation scenarios. The method relies on the joint probability distribution of two features with a 15-min resolution, extracted from the RegD signal with a 2 s resolution. The two features can effectively portray the characteristic of RegD signal and its influence on BESS operation. Multiple regulation scenarios are generated based on the joint probability distributions of these features at first, with the final typical scenarios chosen based on their probability distribution similarity to the actual distribution. Utilizing regulation data from the PJM market in 2020, this paper validates and analyzes the performance of the generated typical scenarios in comparison to existing methods, specifically K-means clustering and the forward scenarios reduction method. To study the polarization reflection characteristics of metal surfaces, a parameter optimization method for the polarization bidirectional reflection distribution function (pBRDF) model of metal surfaces based on the improved strawberry algorithm has been proposed. Firstly, the light scattering characteristics of metal surfaces were analyzed and a multi-parameter pBRDF model was constructed. Then, the working mechanism of the strawberry optimization algorithm was investigated and improved by introducing the chaotic mapping and Levy flight strategy to overcome the shortcomings, such as low convergence rate and easily falling into local optimum. Finally, the method proposed in this paper was validated by simulating open-source data from references and the obtained ones with a self-built experimental platform. The results show that the proposed method outperforms those by nonlinear least squares, particle swarm optimization and the original strawberry algorithm in fitting the detected degree of polarization (DOP) data, indicating the modeling accuracy was significantly improved and better suited to characterize the polarized reflection properties of metal surfaces. The formation of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) stands as a paramount concern in USV formation control research. In addressing this, this paper introduces a novel formation strategy for USVs, which accounts for their arbitrary initial positions and headings. Firstly, given the random distribution of the USVs' initial positions, to enhance the efficiency of formation assembly, the point set of the USVs is matched with basic formations using the Hausdorff distance to establish the formation. Building upon this foundation and acknowledging the potential hindrance posed by the arbitrary initial headings of the USVs, which could hinder their ability to reach the designated formation target points, a cost matrix is constructed based on the designed distance–azimuth evaluation function. Subsequently, the Hungarian algorithm is utilized to efficiently assign formation target points for the USVs. Tooth profile errors are the internal excitations that cause gear meshing errors, which are critical error factors affecting gear transmission accuracy. In existing studies, it is usually regarded as a constant or random distribution function. However, the actual machined tooth profile error is not a constant, so this estimation is inconsistent with the actual situation, resulting in an inaccurate evaluation of transmission accuracy. This paper proposes a method for representing tooth profile errors using distribution errors (including systematic and random errors), and a mathematical model of distributed tooth profile errors is presented. The contact stresses of the complex transmission system were compared with those obtained by formulas, proving that tooth profile errors increase contact stress. A method for calculating gear meshing error is proposed to evaluate the actual output accuracy of the complex transmission system. Compared with the test, the output accuracy is reduced by 13.8% under the temperature environment and distributed tooth profile errors. The proposed methods can accurately predict the transmission accuracy of precision transmission systems at the design stage and provide theoretical support for reducing systematic and random errors at the gear machining stage. This paper establishes a general framework for measuring statistical divergence. Namely, with regard to a pair of random variables that share a common range of values: quantifying the distance of the statistical distribution of one random variable from that of the other. The general framework is then applied to the topics of socioeconomic inequality and renewal processes. The general framework and its applications are shown to yield and to relate to the following: f-divergence, Hellinger divergence, Renyi divergence, and Kullback–Leibler divergence (also known as relative entropy); the Lorenz curve and socioeconomic inequality indices; the Gini index and its generalizations; the divergence of renewal processes from the Poisson process; and the divergence of anomalous relaxation from regular relaxation. Presenting a 'fresh' perspective on statistical divergence, this paper offers its readers a simple and transparent construction of statistical-divergence gauges, as well as novel paths that lead from statistical divergence to the aforementioned topics. The L-fractional derivative is defined as a certain normalization of the well-known Caputo derivative, so alternative properties hold: smoothness and finite slope at the origin for the solution, velocity units for the vector field, and a differential form associated to the system. We develop a theory of this fractional derivative as follows. We prove a fundamental theorem of calculus. We deal with linear systems of autonomous homogeneous parts, which correspond to Caputo linear equations of non-autonomous homogeneous parts. The associated L-fractional integral operator, which is closely related to the beta function and the beta probability distribution, and the estimates for its norm in the Banach space of continuous functions play a key role in the development. The explicit solution is built by means of Picard's iterations from a Mittag–Leffler-type function that mimics the standard exponential function. In the second part of the paper, we address autonomous linear equations of sequential type. We start with sequential order two and then move to arbitrary order by dealing with a power series. The classical theory of linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients is generalized, and we establish an analog of the method of undetermined coefficients. Administrative strategies to cope with drought are steadily changing, from emergency procedures to day-to-day monitoring. More consideration must be paid to long-term and preventive drought control measures in the future. This paper discusses the risk of hydrological drought in the Yellow River Basin. The standardized runoff index (SRI) was used to characterize hydrological drought, and the run theory was used to identify drought states and quantify drought characteristic variables. Based on the drought severity and duration, a drought development plan was proposed and a three-dimensional copula function was constructed to obtain the joint distribution function of three-dimensional drought characteristic variables. A drought risk assessment system based on the loss × probability risk theory was constructed to explore the spatial and temporal characteristics of hydrological drought risk in the Yellow River Basin. Finally, according to the risk assessment results, the risk level was divided into low, medium and high risk, and a Bayesian network was used to explore the probability of hydrological drought. The main results are as follows: (1) From 1960 to 2018, the severity of hydrological drought in the Yellow River Basin increased, the duration lengthened, and the development speed accelerated. (2) The hydrological drought risk in the Yellow River Basin showed an overall upward trend, with the fastest increase in the HJ region of 0.041/10a. The highest annual average drought risk in the TDG region is 0.598. (3) The spatial transmission of hydrological drought risk is divided into three types: constant, enhanced and mitigation types, of which the constant type is the most common. The transmission probabilities of low, medium and high risk of hydrological drought from the HYK region to the low, medium and high risk of hydrological drought in the LJ region are 0.68, 0.66 and 0.78, respectively. The Lyapunov exponent serves as a measure of the average divergence or convergence between chaotic trajectories from the perspective of Lyapunov exponents (LEs). Chaotic systems with more and larger positive LEs have more complex dynamical behavior and can weaken the degeneration of digital chaos. Some existing control algorithms for chaos need more and larger preset parameters, which are not favorable for practical application; others require the original system to satisfy specific conditions, which lack generality. To address the deficiencies of these algorithms, this paper proposes a construction algorithm of N-dimensional discrete non-degenerate chaos based on two-parameter gain (ND-NCTG), which can realize the non-degenerate or non-chaotic control of chaotic systems by only two control parameters. We take a 3D chaotic system as an example and analyze the relationship between control parameters and LEs, as well as the characteristics of chaotic sequences, to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the algorithm. In addition, since the initial value sensitivity of the chaotic system coincides with the sensitivity in input information for the hash function, this paper takes the proposed chaotic construction algorithm as the basis to design a bidirectional diffusion chaotic hash function. The effectiveness and security of this hash algorithm are verified by sensitivity, statistical distribution and collision analysis. Compared with similar algorithms, both the non-degenerate chaotic construction algorithm and the hash function algorithm proposed in this paper have better performance and can meet the application requirements of secure communication. This study proposes a new five-parameter distribution called the gamma-exponentiated Weibull–Poisson (GEWP) distribution. As an extension of the exponentiated Weibull–Poisson family, the GEWP distribution offers a more flexible tool for analyzing a wider variety of data due to its theoretically and practically advantageous properties. It encompasses established distributions like the exponential, Weibull, and exponentiated Weibull. The development of the GEWP distribution proposed in this paper is obtained by combining the gamma–exponentiated Weibull (GEW) and the exponentiated Weibull–Poisson (EWP) distributions. Therefore, it serves as an extension of both the GEW and EWP distributions. This makes the GEWP a viable alternative for describing the variability of occurrences, enabling analysis in situations where GEW and EWP may be limited. This paper analyzes the probability distribution functions and provides the survival and hazard rate functions, the sub-models, the moments, the quantiles, and the maximum likelihood estimation of the GEWP distribution. Then, the numerical experiments for the parameter estimation of GEWP distribution for some finite sample sizes are presented. In this paper, mobile devices were used to estimate the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of wireless channels with three wireless access points (APs). Using the RSSI, the path loss exponent (PLE) was adapted to calculate the estimated distance among the test points (TPs) and the APs, through the root mean square error (RMSE). Moreover, in this paper, the proposed adaptive PLE (APLE) of the TPs was obtained by minimizing the positioning errors of the PLEs. The training samples of RSSI were measured by TPs for 6 days, and different surge processing methods were used to obtain APLE and to improve the positioning accuracy. The surge signals of RSSI were reduced by the cumulated distribution function (CDF), hybrid Kalman filter (KF), and threshold filtering methods, integrating training samples and APLE. The experimental results show that with the proposed APLE, the position accuracy can be improved by 50% compared to the free space model for six TPs. In the practical production environment, the complexity and variability of hydroelectric units often result in a need for more fault data, leading to inadequate accuracy in fault identification for data-driven intelligent diagnostic models. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel fault diagnosis method tailored for unbalanced small-sample states in hydroelectric units based on the Wasserstein generative adversarial network (W-GAN). Firstly, the fast Fourier transform is used to convert the signal from the time domain to the frequency domain to obtain the spectral data, and the W-GAN is trained to generate false spectral data with the same probability distribution as the real fault data, which are combined with the actual data and inputted into the 1D-CNN for feature extraction and fault diagnosis. In order to assess the effectiveness of the proposed model, a case study was conducted using actual data from a domestic hydropower plant, and the experimental results show that the sample features can be effectively enriched via data enhancement performed on small-sample data to improve the accuracy of fault diagnosis, which verifies the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper. This paper presents a novel class of interior solutions for anisotropic stars under the imposition of a self-similar symmetry. This means proposing exact solutions to the Einstein field equations to describe charged matter distribution with radiation flow. The Einstein–Maxwell system by employing specific choices of mass function is formulated to describe the gravitational collapse of charged, anisotropic, spherically symmetric distributions using the Schwarzschild metric. Two ordinary differential equations governing the dynamics are derived by matching a straightforward solution of the symmetry equations to the charged exterior (Reissner–Nordström–Vaidya). Models with satisfactory physical behavior are constructed by extensively exploring self-similar solutions for a set of parameters and initial conditions. Degradation is an inevitable companion in the operation of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems since it directly deteriorates the reliability of the system's operation and the system's durability. Both are seen as barriers that limit the extensive commercial use of SOFC systems. Therefore, diagnosis and prognosis are valuable tools that can contribute to raising the reliability of the system operation, efficient health management, increased durability and implementation of predictive maintenance techniques. Remaining useful life (RUL) prediction has been extensively studied in many areas like batteries and proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEM) systems, and a range of different approaches has been proposed. On the other hand, results available in the domain of SOFC systems are still relatively limited. Moreover, methods relying on detailed process models and models of degradation turned out to have limited applicability for in-field applications. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an effective, data-driven approach to predicting RUL where the trend of the health index is modeled by an adaptive linear model, which is updated at all times during the system operation. This allows for a closed-form solution of the probability distribution of the RUL, which is the main novelty of this paper. Such a solution requires no computational load and is as such very convenient for the application in ordinary low-cost control systems. The performance of the approach is demonstrated first on the simulated case studies and then on the data obtained from a long-term experiment on a laboratory SOFC system. From the tests conducted so far, it turns out that the quality of the RUL prediction is usually rather low at the beginning of the system operation, but then gradually improves while the system is approaching the end-of-life (EOL), making it a viable tool for prognosis. Accurate assessment and prediction of water shortage risk are essential prerequisites for the rational allocation and risk management of water resources. However, previous water shortage risk assessment models based on copulas have strict requirements for data distribution, making them unsuitable for extreme conditions such as insufficient data volume and indeterminate distribution shapes. These limitations restrict the applicability of the models and result in lower evaluation accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a water shortage risk assessment model based on kernel density estimation (KDE) and copula functions. This approach not only enhances the robustness and stability of the model but also improves its prediction accuracy. The methodology involves initially utilizing kernel density estimation to quantify the random uncertainties in water supply and demand based on historical statistical data, thereby calculating their respective marginal probability distributions. Subsequently, copula functions are employed to quantify the coupled interdependence between water supply and demand based on these marginal probability distributions, thereby computing the joint probability distribution. Ultimately, the water shortage risk is evaluated based on potential loss rates and occurrence probabilities. This proposed model is applied to assess the water shortage risk of the Yuxi water receiving area in the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project, and compared with existing models through experimental contrasts. The experimental results demonstrate that the model exhibits evident advantages in terms of robustness, stability, and evaluation accuracy, with a rejection rate of 0 for the null hypothesis of edge probability fitting and a smaller deviation in joint probability fitting compared to the most outstanding model in the field. These findings indicate that the model presented in this paper is capable of adapting to non-ideal scenarios and extreme climatic conditions for water shortage risk assessment, providing reliable prediction outcomes even under extreme circumstances. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) offer comprehensive position, navigation, and timing (PNT) estimates worldwide. Given the growing demand for reliable location awareness in both indoor and outdoor contexts, the advent of fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G) has enabled expansive coverage and precise positioning services. However, the power received by the signal of interest (SOI) at terminals is notably low. This can lead to significant jamming, whether intentional or unintentional, which can adversely affect positioning receivers. The diagnosis of jamming types, such as classification, assists receivers in spectrum sensing and choosing effective mitigation strategies. Traditional jamming diagnosis methodologies predominantly depend on the expertise of classification experts, often demonstrating a lack of adaptability for diverse tasks. Recently, researchers have begun utilizing convolutional neural networks to re-conceptualize a jamming diagnosis as an image classification issue, thereby augmenting recognition performance. However, in real-world scenarios, the assumptions of independent and homogeneous distributions are frequently violated. This discrepancy between the source and target distributions frequently leads to subpar model performance on the test set or an inability to procure usable evaluation samples during training. In this paper, we introduce LJCD-Net, a deep adversarial migration-based cross-domain jamming generalization diagnostic network. LJCD-Net capitalizes on a fully labeled source domain and multiple unlabeled auxiliary domains to generate shared feature representations with generalization capabilities. Initially, our paper proposes an uncertainty-guided auxiliary domain labeling weighting strategy, which estimates the multi-domain sample uncertainty to re-weight the classification loss and specify the gradient optimization direction. Subsequently, from a probabilistic distribution standpoint, the spatial constraint imposed on the cross-domain global jamming time-frequency feature distribution facilitates the optimization of collaborative objectives. This paper proposes a hyperspectral imaging simulation method based on a ray-tracing algorithm. The algorithm combines calculations based on solar and atmospheric visible light radiation as well as the spectral bidirectional reflection distribution function (BRDF) of the target surface material and can create its own scenarios for simulation calculations on demand. Considering the presence of multiple scattering between the target and background, using the ray-tracing algorithm enables the precise computation of results involving multiple scattering. To validate the accuracy of the algorithm, we compared the simulated results with the theoretical values of the visible light scattering intensity from a Lambertian sphere. The relative error obtained was 0.8%. Subsequently, a complex scene of engineering vehicles and grass was established. The results of different observation angles and different coating materials were calculated and analyzed. In summary, the algorithm presented in this paper has the following advantages. Firstly, it is applicable to geometric models composed of any triangular mesh elements and accurately computes the effects of multiple scattering. Secondly, the algorithm combines the spectral BRDF information of materials and improves the efficiency of multiple scattering calculations using nonuniform sampling. Recently, there has been interest in determining the viscoelastic properties of polymeric liquids and other complex fluids by means of Diffusing Wave Spectroscopy (DWS). In this technique, light-scattering spectroscopy is applied to highly turbid fluids containing optical probe particles. The DWS spectrum is used to infer the time-dependent mean-square displacement and time-dependent diffusion coefficient D of the probes. From D, values for the storage modulus G ′ (ω) and the loss modulus G ′ ′ (ω) are obtained. This paper is primarily concerned with the inference of the mean-square displacement from a DWS spectrum. However, in much of the literature, central to the inference that is said to yield D is an invocation g (1) (t) = exp (− 2 q 2 X (t) 2 ¯) of the Gaussian Approximation for the field correlation function g (1) (t) of the scattered light in terms of the mean-square displacement X (t) 2 ¯ of a probe particle during time t. Experiment and simulation both show that the Gaussian approximation is invalid for probes in polymeric liquids and other complex fluids. In this paper, we obtain corrections to the Gaussian approximation that will assist in interpreting DWS spectra of probes in polymeric liquids. Power systems with a high proportion of inverter-based sources like photovoltaics require a substantial short-circuit current ratio to ensure strong voltage support capabilities. However, this also increases the system's short-circuit current capacity and levels, which may potentially affect the safe operation of system equipment and current-carrying conductors. To evaluate the operational risks, this paper proposes a quantitative calculation model for the critical integration proportion of grid-connected inverter-interfaced power sources based on short-circuit current over-limit probability. Firstly, according to the verification criterion about short-circuit current during the selection of the switching equipment and conductors in the power system, the short-circuit current over-limit probability evaluation system with five indices is established. Secondly, considering the impact of the increased grid integration proportion of inverter-based power sources on short-circuit currents, an evaluation process for operational risk probabilities is proposed. Based on this, the critical access proportion for inverter-based power source integration in the power grid can be calculated. Finally, the proposed model is used to assess the operational risk probability for a 220 kV system which includes a high proportion of inverter-based power sources in the Anhui area, China. Through the analysis of cumulative probability distribution curves, the critical grid integration proportion interval for the transition from normal to high proportion stages of inverter-based power sources is determined. The quiet-time solar wind electrons feature non-thermal characteristics when viewed from the perspective of their velocity distribution functions. They typically have an appearance of being composed of a denser thermal "core" population plus a tenuous energetic "halo" population. At first, such a feature was empirically fitted with the kappa velocity space distribution function, but ever since the ground-breaking work by Tsallis, the space physics community has embraced the potential implication of the kappa distribution as reflecting the non-extensive nature of the space plasma. From the viewpoint of microscopic plasma theory, the formation of the non-thermal electron velocity distribution function can be interpreted in terms of the plasma being in a state of turbulent quasi-equilibrium. Such a finding brings forth the possible existence of a profound inter-relationship between the non-extensive statistical state and the turbulent quasi-equilibrium state. The present paper further develops the idea of solar wind electrons being in the turbulent equilibrium, but, unlike the previous model, which involves the electrostatic turbulence near the plasma oscillation frequency (i.e., Langmuir turbulence), the present paper considers the impact of transverse electromagnetic turbulence, particularly, the turbulence in the whistler-mode frequency range. It is found that the coupling of spontaneously emitted thermal fluctuations and the background turbulence leads to the formation of a non-thermal electron velocity distribution function of the type observed in the solar wind during quiet times. This demonstrates that the whistler-range turbulence represents an alternative mechanism for producing the kappa-like non-thermal distribution, especially close to the Sun and in the near-Earth space environment. This paper shows that the empirical distribution of cross-sectional analyst coverage in China's stock markets follows an exponential law in a given month from 2011 to 2020. The findings hold in both the emerging (Shanghai) and the developed market (Hong Kong). Moreover, the unique distribution parameter (i.e., mean) is directly related to the amount of market-wide information. Average analyst coverage exhibits a significant negative predictive power for stock-market uncertainty, highlighting the role of security analysts in diminishing the total uncertainty. The exponential law can be derived from the maximum entropy principle (MEP). When analysts, who are constrained by average ability in generating information (i.e., the first-order moment), strive to maximize the amount of market-wide information, this objective yields the exponential distribution. Contrary to the conventional wisdom that security analysts specialize in the generation of firm-specific information, empirical findings suggest that analysts primarily produce market-wide information for 25 countries. Various statistical distributions have played significant roles in financial data analytics in recent decades. Among these, elliptical modeling has gained popularity, while the study and application of skew-elliptical modeling have garnered increased attention in various domains. This paper begins by acknowledging the notable accomplishments and contributions of Professor Chris Heyde in the field of financial data modeling. We provide a comprehensive review of elliptical and skew-elliptical modeling, summarizing the latest advancements. In particular, we focus on the characteristics, estimation methods, and diagnostics of elliptical and skew-elliptical distributions in regression and time series models, as well as copula modeling. Furthermore, we discuss several related applications in regression and time series models, including estimation and diagnostic methods. The main objective of this paper is to address the critical need for accurately identifying the underlying elliptical distribution, whether it is elliptical or skew-elliptical. This identification is essential for conducting local influence diagnostics and employing appropriate regression methods using suitable elliptical modeling techniques. To illustrate this process, we present examples that demonstrate the identification of the elliptical distribution, starting with the Box–Jenkins methodology and progressing to copula modeling. The inclusion of copula modeling is motivated by its effectiveness in conjunction with elliptical and skew-elliptical distributions, as it aids in distinguishing between the two. In this paper, the non-orthogonal amplitude-frequency analysis of smoothed signals (NAFASS) method) is used to approximate discrete aperiodic signals from various complex systems with the non-integer harmonic series (NIHS). When approximating by the NIHS, there is a problem in determining the dispersion law for harmonic frequencies. In the original version of the NAFASS approach, the frequency dispersion law was determined from a linear-difference equation. However, many complex systems in nature have frequency distributions that differ from the linear law, which is used in the conventional Fourier analysis of periodic signals. This paper proposes a generalization of the NAFASS method for describing aperiodic signals by the NIHS with a frequency distribution that satisfies a recursive formula, which coincides with the local generalized geometric mean (GGM). The methodology of the generalized NAFASS method is demonstrated using descriptions of financial data (prices for metals) and sound data (sounds of insects) as examples. In recent years, various forms of progressive hybrid censoring schemes (PHCS) have gained significant traction in survival and reliability analysis studies due to their versatility. However, these PHCS variants are often characterized by complexity stemming from the multitude of parameters involved in their specification. Consequently, the primary objective of this paper is to propose a unified approach termed combined type II progressive hybrid censoring scheme ( ComT 2 PHCS) capable of encompassing several existing PHCS variations. In ITU-T standards, auxiliary management and control channels (AMCCs), as defined, facilitate the rapid deployment and efficient management of wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) systems. The super-imposition of an AMCC introduces additional interference to a PON signal, resulting in the degradation of the performance of the overall transmission. In prior research, we proposed employing a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) to fit a baseband-modulated AMCC signal. Following the analysis of the interference model and the distribution characteristics of received signal errors, we propose a combined optimization method for a transmitter and receiver in this paper. This method, grounded in probabilistic shaping (PS) techniques, optimizes the probability distribution of the transmitted signal based on the AMCC interference model, with the objective of reducing the error rate in PON signal transmission. We have validated this approach within a 50G-PON experimental system by utilizing PAM4 modulation. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method for mitigating the impact of baseband-modulated AMCC, thereby reducing the error rate in PON signal transmission. The approach presented in this paper can further minimize the performance degradation introduced by baseband-modulated AMCC in WDM-PON systems, enhancing the efficiency of WDM-PON deployment. With the continuous expansion of grid-connected wind, photovoltaic, and other renewable energy sources, their volatility and uncertainty pose significant challenges to system peak regulation. To enhance the system's peak-load management and the integration of wind (WD) and photovoltaic (PV) power, this paper introduces a distributionally robust optimization scheduling strategy for a WD–PV thermal storage power system incorporating deep peak shaving. Firstly, a detailed peak shaving process model is developed for thermal power units, alongside a multi-energy coupling model for WD–PV thermal storage that accounts for carbon emissions. Secondly, to address the variability and uncertainty of WD–PV outputs, a data-driven, distributionally robust optimization scheduling model is formulated utilizing 1-norm and ∞-norm constrained scenario probability distribution fuzzy sets. Lastly, the model is solved iteratively through the column and constraint generation algorithm (C&CG). In this paper, we find conditions under which distribution functions of randomly stopped minimum, maximum, minimum of sums and maximum of sums belong to the class of generalized subexponential distributions. The results presented in this article complement the closure properties of randomly stopped sums considered in the authors' previous work. In this work, as in the previous one, the primary random variables are supposed to be independent and real-valued, but not necessarily identically distributed. The counting random variable describing the stopping moment of random structures is supposed to be nonnegative, integer-valued and not degenerate at zero. In addition, it is supposed that counting random variable and the sequence of the primary random variables are independent. In order to solve the problem of emergency decision-making with incomplete information and deal with the accident information in different time series at the scenes of major accidents, this paper proposes a method of sequential decision-making by utilizing the relevant knowledge of D-S evidence theory and game theory. Firstly, we took an oil tank fire accident as an example and sorted out historical cases and expert experiences to establish a logical relationship between key accident scenes and accident scene symptoms in the accident. Meanwhile, we applied the logistic regression analysis method to obtain the basic probability distribution of each key accident scene in the oil tank fire, and on this basis, we constructed an evidence set of the fire. Secondly, based on the D-S evidence theory, we effectively quantified the knowledge uncertainty and evidence uncertainty, with the incomplete and insufficient information taken as an evidence system of the development of key accident scenes to construct a situation prediction model of these accident scenes. Thirdly, based on the game theory, we viewed emergency decision-makers and major accidents as two sides of the game to compare and analyze accident states at different time points and solve the contradiction between loss costs of decision-making and information collection costs. Therefore, this paper has provided a solution for the optimization of accident schemes at different time stages, thus realizing the sequential decision-making at the scenes of major accidents. Furthermore, we combined the situation prediction model with sequential decision-making, with the basic steps described below: (1) We drew up an initial action plan in the case of an extreme lack of information; then, we (2) started to address the accident and constructed a framework of accident identification, (3) collected and dealt with the continuously added evidence information with the evolution of the accident, (4) calculated the confidence levels of key accident scenarios after evaluating different evidence and then predicted the accident state in the next stage, and (5) calculated the profit–loss ratio between the current decision-making scheme and the decision-making scheme of the next stage. We verified the feasibility of the proposed method with the explosion accident of the Zhangzhou P.X. project in Fujian on 6 April used as an example. Metal, as a high-performance electrode catalyst, is a research hotspot in the construction of a high-performance microbial fuel cell (MFC). However, metal catalyst nanoparticles and their dispersed carriers are prone to aggregation, producing catalytic electrodes with inferior qualities. In this study, Pd is uniformly dispersed on the graphene framework supported by carbon black to form nanocomposite catalysts (Pd/GO-C catalysts). The effect of the palladium loading amount in the catalyst on the catalytic performance of the air cathode was further studied. The optimized metal loading afforded a reduced resistance and improved accessibility of Pd particles for the ORR. The beat signal obtained from frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar is a waveform that is corrupted by noise and requires filtering out interference components for frequency calibration. Traditional FFT methods are affected by the fence effect and spectral leakage, leading to a reduction in frequency estimation accuracy. Therefore, an improved double-spectrum-line interpolation frequency estimation algorithm is proposed in this paper, utilizing spectral refinement and phase interpolation. Firstly, the post-FFT spectral signal is refined to narrow the frequency search range and enhance frequency resolution, thereby separating the noise signal. Then, a frequency deviation factor is defined based on the relationship between adjacent phase angles. Finally, the signal's phase angles are interpolated using the frequency deviation factor to estimate the frequency of the beat signal. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm reduces the impact of quantization on the frequency distribution and increases the signal's noise resistance. To ensure the efficient functioning of solar energy generation systems, it is crucial to have dependable designs and regular maintenance. However, when these systems or their components operate at multiple working levels, optimizing reliability becomes a complex task for models and analyses. In the context of reliability modeling in solar energy generation systems, researchers often assume that random variables follow an exponential distribution (binary-state representation) as a simplification, although this may not always hold true for real-world engineering systems. In the present paper, a multi-state solar energy generating system with inverters in series configuration is investigated, in which unreliable by-pass changeover switches, common cause failures (CCFs), and multiple repairman vacations are also considered. Furthermore, the arrivals of CCFs and the repair processes of the failed system due to CCFs are governed by different Markovian arrival processes (MAPs), and the lifetimes and repair times of inverters and by-pass changeover switches and the repairman vacation time in the system have different phase-type (PH) distributions. Therefore, the behavior of the system is represented using a Markov process methodology, and reliability measures for the proposed system are derived utilizing aggregated stochastic process theory. In this paper, we generalize two new statistical distributions, to improve the ability to model failure rates with non-monotonic, monotonic, and mainly bathtub curve behaviors. We call these distributions Generalized Powered Uniform Distribution and MOE-Powered Uniform. The proposed distributions' approach is based on incorporating a parameter k in the power of the values of the random variables, which is associated with the Probability Density Function and includes an operator called the Powered Mean. Various statistical and mathematical features focused on reliability analysis are presented and discussed, to make the models attractive to reliability engineering or medicine specialists. We employed the Maximum Likelihood Estimator method to estimate the model parameters and we analyzed its performance through a Monte Carlo simulation study. To demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed approach, a comparative analysis was carried out on four case studies with the proposed MOE-Powered Uniform distribution, which can model failure times as a bathtub curve. Ball bearings operating at low speeds and under heavy loads are susceptible to wear failure, leading to significant economic losses. The existing reliability-based robust design optimization method of the fourth-moment method has high accuracy and does not need to determine the random distribution of the input variables, but it is not possible to apply it to ball bearing wear due to the complexity of the bearing wear state function that cannot be characterized as an explicit form. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel design method for ball bearing wear. Firstly, a surrogate model is constructed using the Kriging model method to establish a relationship between the bearing design parameters and the mechanical response. Subsequently, a wear reliability model is developed on the basis of the fourth-moment method, and reliability sensitivity analysis is conducted. Finally, the ball bearing wear reliability-based robust design optimization is accomplished through the use of a genetic algorithm. The results of the case calculations demonstrate that the proposed method effectively calculates the ball bearing wear reliability and analyzes the impact of design parameter randomness on reliability. Twist angle errors along the blade radial direction are uncertain and affected by cutting force, tool wear, and other factors. In this paper, the measured twist angle errors of 13 sections of 72 rotor blades were innovatively analyzed to obtain the rational statistical distribution. It is surprisingly found that the under-deflection systematic deviation of twist angle errors shows a gradually increasing W-shaped distribution along the radial direction, while the scatter is nearly linear. Logically, the statistical model is established based on the linear correlation of the scatter by regression analysis to reduce variable dimension from 13 to 1. The influence of the radial non-uniform twist angle errors' uncertainty on the aerodynamic performance of the three-dimensional compressor rotor is efficiently quantified combining the non-intrusive polynomial chaos method. The results show that the mean values of mass flow rate, total pressure ratio, and isentropic efficiency at the typical operating conditions are lower than the nominal values due to the systematic deviation, indicating that the under-deflection twist angle errors lead to the decrease in compressor thrust. The compressor's stable operating range is more sensitive to the scatter of twist angle errors, which is up to an order of magnitude greater than that of the total pressure ratio and isentropic efficiency, indicating the compressor's safe and stable operation risk increases. Frequent flooding seriously affects people's safety and economic construction, and assessing the inundation probability can help to strengthen the capacity of emergency management of floods. There are currently two general means of flood sensing: physical and social. Remote sensing data feature high reliability but are often unavailable in disasters caused by persistent heavy rainfall. Social media is characterized by high timeliness and a large data volume but has high redundancy and low reliability. The existing studies have primarily relied on physical sensing data and have not fully exploited the potential of social media data. This paper combines traditional physical sensing data with social media and proposes an integrated physical and social sensing (IPS) method to estimate the probability distribution of flood inundation. Taking the "7·20" Henan rainstorm in 2021 and the study area of Xinxiang, China, as a case study, more than 60,000 messages and 1900 images about this occurrence were acquired from the Weibo platform. Taking filtered water depth points with their geographic location and water depth information as the main input, the inverse distance attenuation function was used to calculate the inundation potential layer of the whole image. Then, the Gaussian kernel was used to weight the physical sensing data based on each water depth point, and finally, the submergence probability layer of the whole image was enhanced. In the validation of the results using radar and social media points, accuracies of 88.77% and 75% were obtained by setting up a threshold classification, demonstrating the effectiveness and usefulness of the method. The significance of this study lies in obtaining discrete social media flood points and achieving space-continuous flood inundation probability mapping, providing decision-making support for urban flood diagnosis and mitigation.
