The rhizosphere is the hotspot for microbial enzyme activities and contributes to carbon cycling. Precipitation is an important component of global climate change that can profoundly alter belowground microbial communities. However, the impact of precipitation on conifer rhizospheric microbial populations has not been investigated in detail. In the present study, using high-throughput amplicon sequencing, we investigated the impact of precipitation on the rhizospheric soil microbial communities in two Norway Spruce clonal seed orchards, Lipová Lhota (L-site) and Prenet (P-site). P-site has received nearly double the precipitation than L-site for the last three decades. P-site documented higher soil water content with a significantly higher abundance of Aluminium (Al), Iron (Fe), Phosphorous (P), and Sulphur (S) than L-site. Rhizospheric soil metabolite profiling revealed an increased abundance of acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, and alcohols in P-site. There was variance in the relative abundance of distinct microbiomes between the sites. A higher abundance of Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota, Ascomycota, and Mortiellomycota was observed in P-site receiving high precipitation, while Bacteroidota, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, Firmicutes, Gemmatimonadota, and Basidiomycota were prevalent in L-site. The higher clustering coefficient of the microbial network in P-site suggested that the microbial community structure is highly interconnected and tends to cluster closely. The current study unveils the impact of precipitation variations on the spruce rhizospheric microbial association and opens new avenues for understanding the impact of global change on conifer rizospheric microbial associations. The gut barrier is essential for protection against pathogens and maintaining homeostasis. Macrophages are key players in the immune system, are indispensable for intestinal health, and contribute to immune defense and repair mechanisms. Understanding the multifaceted roles of macrophages can provide critical insights into maintaining and restoring gastrointestinal (GI) health. This review explores the essential role of macrophages in maintaining the gut barrier function and their contribution to post-inflammatory and post-infectious responses in the gut. Macrophages significantly contribute to gut barrier integrity through epithelial repair, immune modulation, and interactions with gut microbiota. They demonstrate active plasticity by switching phenotypes to resolve inflammation, facilitate tissue repair, and regulate microbial populations following an infection or inflammation. In addition, tissue-resident (M2) and infiltration (M1) macrophages convert to each other in gut problems such as IBS and IBD via major signaling pathways mediated by NF-κB, JAK/STAT, PI3K/AKT, MAPK, Toll-like receptors, and specific microRNAs such as miR-155, miR-29, miR-146a, and miR-199, which may be good targets for new therapeutic approaches. Future research should focus on elucidating the detailed molecular mechanisms and developing personalized therapeutic approaches to fully harness the potential of macrophages to maintain and restore intestinal permeability and gut health. In recent years, the phenomenon of black–odorous water has occurred frequently, and constructed wetlands have been widely used as an effective means of treating black–odorous water. In order to achieve the goal of low-carbon and high-efficiency long-term clean-up of black–odorous water, the modular constructed wetland system was optimized in this study. The optimized modular constructed wetland consisted of aeration, denitrification, and phosphorus removal, of which the denitrification module was a sulfur–iron autotrophic denitrification unit and the phosphorus removal module was a polyaluminum chloride composite filler phosphorus-removal unit. Experimental findings indicated that modular systems with layout ratios of 1:3:1 (A) and 1:2:2 (B) exhibit outstanding performance in remediating contaminants from black–odorous water. Notably, system B demonstrated superior treatment efficiency. Under conditions of high pollution loading, system B consistently achieved stable removal rates for COD (95.79%), TN (91.74%), NH4+-N (95.17%), and TP (82.21%). The combination of along-track changes and high-throughput sequencing results showed that the synergies among the units did not produce negative effects during the purification process, and each unit realized its predefined function. Changes in the substrate and internal environment of the wetland units caused changes in the microbial populations, and the unique microbial community structure of the units ensured that they were effective in removing different pollutants. Wheat starch fermentation slurry is the main substrate for producing Ganmianpi, a traditional Chinese fermented wheat starch-based noodle. In the present work, the microbial population dynamics and metabolite changes in wheat starch fermentation slurry at different fermentation times (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 days) were measured by using high-throughput sequencing analysis and headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS) methods. The texture and sensory properties of Ganmianpi made from fermented starch slurry are also evaluated. The results showed that Latilactobacillus curvatus and Leuconostoc citreum were the dominant bacteria in wheat starch fermentation slurry, while Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Kazachstania wufongensis were identified as the main species of fungi. With the extension of fermentation time, the reducing sugar content first increased and then decreased, when the titratable acidity content showed an increasing trend, and the nonvolatile acid was significantly higher than the volatile acid. A total of 62 volatile flavor compounds were identified, and the highest content is alcohols, followed by acids. Fermentation significantly reduced the hardness and chewiness of Ganmianpi, and increased its resilience and cohesiveness. Ganmianpi made from fermented starch slurry for two and three days showed a higher sensory score than other samples. The present study is expected to provide a theoretical basis for exploiting the strains with potential for commercial application as starter cultures and quality improvement of Ganmianpi. Biological agents used to treat severe psoriasis may alter the gut microbiota, though current knowledge is limited. This study examines whether switching from TNFα inhibitors, from which patients had reduced or lost effect, to brodalumab, an IL-17 inhibitor, affects the gut microbiota in patients with psoriasis and how these changes correlate with the clinical variables of psoriasis severity and depressive symptoms. Fecal samples from patients were collected before the treatment switch and 12 weeks after the switch and were analyzed for the microbiota composition using next-generation sequencing targeting the V3–V5 region of the 16S rRNA gene, followed by bioinformatics analysis. No significant changes in overall gut microbiota composition were observed after the treatment switch, although individual variations in the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio were noted, and no significant correlations with clinical variables were found. These findings suggest that short-term changes in gut microbiota in patients with psoriasis are limited and that dysbiosis may be influenced by the interplay of various microbial populations rather than specific taxa. This study aimed to assess the effects of Chinese Baijiu with different flavors as supplementary material on microbial communities and flavor formation during inoculated fermentation of Chinese Dongbei Suancai. The results showed that the addition of Fen flavor Baijiu significantly increased the relative abundance of Candida, Luzhou flavor Baijiu increased the relative abundance of Pedobacter and Hannaella, while Maotai flavor Baijiu increased the Chryseobacterium and Kazachstania. A total of 226 volatile metabolites were detected in Suancai fermented when adding different flavors of Baijiu. Furthermore, the significantly upregulated metabolites (p < 0.01) of Suancai after adding Baijiu increased by 328.57%, whereas the significantly downregulated metabolites decreased by 74.60%. Simultaneously, the addition of Baijiu promoted the synthesis and decomposition of amino acids and short-chain fatty acids in the early and middle stages of fermentation. Further, Maotai flavor Baijiu improved the diversification of metabolic pathways in the late stage of Suancai fermentation. The E-nose response showed that sulfur-organic, broad-alcohol, sulfur-chlor was the principal differential flavor in Suancai caused by adding Baijiu with different flavors. Simultaneously, Fen flavor Baijiu and Luzhou flavor Baijiu accelerated the formation of the Suancai flavor. The deteriorating soil health under continuous monoculture is commonly found across various cropping systems. This study evaluated the effects of different tillage practices (conventional tillage and no till) and species mixtures (legumes and grasses) on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community properties, soil nutrients, and enzyme activity in a 3-year experiment. Compared with traditional tillage, the number of AMF species under no-till conditions was increased, with the Glomus group being dominant. Under different tillage conditions, TN (total N) and AN (available N) contents under no till were significantly higher than those under conventional tillage, while no significant differences among other nutrients were found. The activities of soil acid phosphatase (S-ACP), soil dehydrogenase (S-DHA), and soil sucrose (S-SC) under conventional tillage were significantly higher than those under no till, and the cover crop mixtures also had an exclusive advantage in yield. Soil organic matter (SOM) indicated a significant negative correlation with glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP). The increase in diversity associated with the AMF species community was strongly correlated with the increase in three enzyme activities, and AN was negatively correlated with all species. Tillage did not significantly change soil chemistry, except for AN, and the high concentration of AN led to a decrease in AMF species. The results of this study showed that no till was an effective measure for enriching soil micro-organism population. Additionally, soil AMF diversity was improved by cover crop mixtures, and microbial diversity was higher than that under monoculture cover crops. Different AMF groups responded differently to tillage and cover crop mixtures. This study aimed to determine shifts in microbial populations regarding richness and diversity from the daily use of a popular over-the-counter nasal spray. In addition, the finding of nasal commensal bacterial species that overlap with the oral microbiome may prove to be potential probiotics for the "gateway microbiomes". Nasal swab samples were obtained before and after using the most popular over-the-counter (OTC) nasal spray in 10 participants aged 18–48. All participants were healthy volunteers with no significant medical histories. The participants were randomly assigned a number by randomizing software and consisted of five men and five women. The sampling consisted of placing a nasal swab atraumatically into the nasal cavity. The samples were preserved and sent to Northwestern University Sequencing Center for whole-genome deep sequencing. After 21 days of OTC nasal spray use twice daily, the participants returned for further nasal microbiome sampling. The microbial analysis included all bacteria, archaea, viruses, molds, and yeasts via deep sequencing for species analysis. The applicability of ionic liquids has grown exponentially over the last few decades. This growth is due to the easy modification of these compounds formed by ions, through the proper choice of both moieties, and the possibility of introducing functional groups into their cations and anions. However, studies of their toxicity and effects on the environment remain scarce. This study analyses firstly the response to adding different concentrations of choline dihydrogen phosphate to the germination of seeds of eight plant species. It also examines the microbial population and the respiration of two soils with contrasting organic matter contents. Seeds were incubated in a Petri dish in a Phytotron with a photoperiod of 16 h under light at 24 °C and 8 h in darkness at 16 °C. The activity of microbial populations of untreated and treated soils was analysed by isothermal microcalorimetry at 25 °C. Basal soil respiration kinetics were measured at optimal moisture (80% of field water retention capacity) and temperature (25 °C) over 10 days. The results indicate that this compound has diverse effects on the different endpoints. Agricultural practices profoundly influence soil microbial populations and physicochemical properties, vital for crop growth and quality. This study aims to explore the impact of diverse agrochemical applications on soil microbial dynamics, physicochemical properties, and maize yield and proximate properties. Topsoil samples, collected at depths of 1 to 15 cm, were transported to Jimma University for maize cultivation. Over 120 days, soil and maize samples were collected at specified intervals for analysis, including soil pH, microbial populations, and nutrient content. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA (p < 0.05) was conducted. Soil bacterial and fungal populations were measured on days 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, and 120. The highest total mesophilic bacterial count (TMBC) was in compost-treated pots (G) and the lowest in those receiving macronutrient fertilizers and glyphosates (B). The highest total mesophilic fungal count (TMFC) was in pots with glyphosates and compost (F), and the lowest was in pots treated with macronutrient fertilizers and glyphosates (B). Pots treated with macronutrient fertilizers and glyphosates (B), macronutrient fertilizers (A), and micronutrient fertilizers (C) showed the lowest Fe and Zn levels. Maize in pots treated with macronutrient fertilizer combined with glyphosate (B) exhibited the lowest protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Notably, compost-treated soils showed the highest bacterial and fungal counts, Fe, and Zn concentrations, while micro-mineral fertilizer combined with glyphosate (B) depleted the soil. Simple Summary: This study investigated whether COS in the diet can improve the digestion and rumen health of beef cattle under in vitro fermentation conditions. A total of 24 fermentation tanks were randomly allocated into four groups. Each treatment had six replicates, with one tank per replicate. Each group received a different concentration of 0.02% COS, 0.04% COS, 0.08% COS, and a control group (CON). The results demonstrated that the addition of COS facilitates a shift in rumen fermentation from the acetate model to the propionate model. The study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) meal levels on the nutrient disappearance rate, rumen fermentation, and microflora of beef cattle in vitro. A total of 24 fermentation tanks were randomly divided into four treatments containing 0% COS (CON), 0.02% COS, 0.04% COS, and 0.08% COS for an 8-day experiment period, with each treatment comprising six replicates. The disappear rates of DM, CP, EE, and total gas production were quadratically increased with increasing COS levels. The disappear rates of DM, CP, EE, and ADF were greatest, whereas the total gas production was lowest in the 0.08% COS group. The pH, NH3-N, MCP, the content of propionate, isobutyrate, butyrate, valerate, and the A/P were quadratically increased with increasing COS levels, while the A/P were linearly decreased. The pH, MCP, and the content of propionate, and butyrate were highest, whereas the NH3-N and the content of acetate, isobutyrate, valerate, and the A/P were lowest in the 0.08% COS group. Microbiomics analysis showed that the rumen microbial diversity was not altered between the CON and the 0.08% COS group. However, the relative abundance of Methanosphaera, Ruminococcus, Endomicrobium, and Eubacterium groups was increased, and the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria Dorea and Escherichia-Shigella showed a decrease in the 0.08% COS group. Overall, the 0.08% COS was the most effective among the three addition levels, resulting in an increase in the disappearance rate of in vitro fermented nutrients and improvements in rumen fermentation indexes and microbial communities. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Cannabis sativa L. and Cannabis indica Lam. on in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics, selected rumen microbial populations, and methane production. GC-MS analyses allowed us to identify 89 compounds in both EOs. It was found that E-β-caryophyllene predominated in C. sativa (18.4%) and C. indica (24.1%). An in vitro (Ankom) test was performed to analyse the control and monensin groups, as well as the 50 µL or 100 µL EOs. The samples for volatile fatty acids (VFAs), lactate, and microbiological analysis were taken before incubation and after 6 and 24 h. The application of EOs of C. indica resulted in an increase in the total VFAs of acetate and propionate after 6 h of incubation. The applied EOs had a greater impact on the reduction in methane production after 6 h, but no apparent effect was noted after 24 h. Lower concentrations of C. sativa and C. indica had a more pronounced effect on Lactobacillus spp. and Buryrivibrio spp. than monensin. The presented findings suggest that C. sativa and C. indica supplementation can modify ruminal fermentation, the concentrations of specific volatile fatty acids, and methane production. This study investigated the effect of molasses addition on the fermentation quality, chemical composition, and bacterial community of seed pumpkin peel residue (SPPR) mixed with sunflower straw (SS) in microstorage feed. Molasses additions on a dry matter basis (DM) were divided into three groups: 0% control (CON), 1% (MA), and 2% (MB), and the raw materials underwent mixed microstorage for a period of 60 days. MA exhibited the highest content of dry matter (DM), the lowest content of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), as well as the lowest microbial diversity abundance and the highest relative abundance of lactobacilli (p < 0.05). MB demonstrated the highest crude protein (CP) content and acetic acid (AA) and propionic acid (PA) concentrations, with the lowest pH. Although Astragalus membranaceus root (AMR) has been noted as an ingredient in ruminant feed, the impacts of AMR feeding on rumen fermentation and the microbial community structure within the rumen are yet to be evaluated. This study investigated the effects of AMR supplementation on rumen fermentation characteristics and microbial community structures in goats. In two sets of feeding experiments, four Japanese native goats were fed AMR (10 g/kg DM/day/head) for three weeks per experiment. The rumen fluid samples were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography for fermentation products and next-generation sequencing for microbial analysis. The rumen fluid samples in the second experiment were also subject to an in vitro anaerobic fermentation test. The results indicated a significant modification, with a higher volatile fatty acid (VFA) content in the rumen fluid of goats in the feeding period than before feeding (p < 0.01). The microbial analysis revealed a significant increase in community diversity (p < 0.05) following AMR feeding, and the rumen bacterial community increased in two families belonging to the order Oscillospirales in Firmicutes (p < 0.05). The phylum Verrucomicrobiota was observed to be significantly less abundant after AMR feeding than during the control period (p < 0.05). Notably, the linear discriminant analysis revealed that the families with largely unknown functions in the rumen (Oscillospiraceae, Rikenellaceae, Muribaculaceae, and vadinBB97) were the determinants of the community split between control and AMR feeding. Increased fermentation rate by AMR feeding was also supported by an in vitro culture experiment, which resulted in faster VFA production without affecting methane production in total gas production. The study demonstrated that AMR can significantly facilitate change in the bacterial community structure in the goat rumen involving a shift of the favoring fibrolytic bacteria towards VFA production. The long-term effects of AMR supplementation and its applicability across different ruminant species, with potential benefits for animal health and productivity, should be addressed. Simple Summary: The development of the sheep industry plays an important role in increasing the income of farmers and herdsmen and promoting rural revitalization. Genetic improvement is the key to improving the competitiveness of the sheep industry. Tianhua mutton sheep, as China's first mutton fine wool sheep adapted to alpine pastures, have a key advantage over Gansu alpine fine wool sheep in terms of adaptive ability. In order to show the differences in rumen development and microbial structure between Tianhua mutton sheep and Gansu alpine fine wool sheep, the present study was conducted to comprehensively investigate the rumen of the two types of fine wool sheep by Hematoxylin Eosin (H&E) staining, volatile fatty acids (VFAs) assay, and full-length sequencing of 16S rRNA. The results showed that Tianhua mutton sheep had a better performance in the rumen volatile fatty acid content, rumen tissue development, and rumen microorganisms compared with Gansu alpine fine wool sheep, and this study provided a good theoretical explanation for the better adaptation of Tianhua mutton sheep to alpine pastures compared with Gansu alpine fine wool sheep. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the differences in rumen tissue morphology, volatile fatty acid content, and rumen microflora between Tianhua mutton sheep and Gansu alpine fine wool sheep under the same grazing conditions. Twelve 30-day-old lambs were randomly selected from two different flocks in Duolong Village and grazed together for a period of 150 days. The rumen tissue was fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and brought back to the laboratory for H&E staining, the volatile fatty acid content of the rumen contents was detected by gas chromatography, and the rumen flora structure was sequenced by full-length sequencing of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene using the PacBio sequencing platform. The acetic acid and total acid contents of the rumen contents of Tianhua mutton sheep were significantly higher than those of Gansu alpine fine wool sheep (p < 0.05). The rumen papillae height of Tianhua mutton sheep was significantly higher than that of Gansu alpine fine wool sheep (p < 0.05). The diversity and richness of the rumen flora of Tianhua mutton sheep were higher than those of Gansu alpine fine wool sheep, and Beta analysis showed that the microflora structure of the two fine wool sheep was significantly different. At the phylum level, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes dominated the rumen flora of Tianhua mutton sheep and Gansu alpine fine wool sheep. At the genus level, the dominant strains were Christensenellaceae_R_7_group and Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group. LEfSe analysis showed that Prevotella was a highly abundant differential species in Tianhua mutton sheep and lachnospiraccac was a highly abundant differential species in Gansu alpine fine wool sheep. Finally, both the KEGG and COG databases showed that the enrichment of biometabolic pathways, such as replication and repair and translation, were significantly higher in Tianhua mutton sheep than in Gansu alpine fine wool sheep (p < 0.05). In general, there were some similarities between Tianhua mutton sheep and Gansu alpine fine wool sheep in the rumen tissue morphology, rumen fermentation ability, and rumen flora structure. However, Tianhua mutton sheep had a better performance in the rumen acetic acid content, rumen papillae height, and beneficial bacteria content. The vast array of interconnected microorganisms across Earth's ecosystems and within holobionts has been called the "Internet of Microbes." Bacteria and archaea are masters of energy and information collection, storage, transformation, and dissemination using both "wired" and wireless (at a distance) functions. Specific tools affecting microbial energy and information functions offer effective strategies for managing microbial populations within, between, and beyond holobionts. This narrative review focuses on microbial management using a subset of physical modifiers of microbes: sound and light (as well as related vibrations). These are examined as follows: (1) as tools for managing microbial populations, (2) as tools to support new technologies, (3) as tools for healing humans and other holobionts, and (4) as potential safety dangers for microbial populations and their holobionts. Given microbial sensitivity to sound, light, and vibrations, it is critical that we assign a higher priority to the effects of these physical factors on microbial populations and microbe-laden holobionts. We conclude that specific sound, light, and/or vibrational conditions are significant therapeutic tools that can help support useful microbial populations and help to address the ongoing challenges of holobiont disease. Simple Summary: Dragon fruit peel polyphenolic extract is a potential ruminal modulator endorsed by consumers for its inherent safety and acceptability. This in vitro study demonstrated that dragon fruit peel polyphenolic extract increased the concentration of volatile fatty acids in the rumen, reduced gas production, and enhanced the rumen bacterial abundances. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of dragon fruit peel polyphenolic extract (DFPE) on gas production, rumen fermentation, and bacterial communities in sika deer using an in vitro technique. Three treatments with different DFPE levels (DFPE0, base diet; DFPE5, base diet + 5 mg/g DFPE; DFPE10, base diet + 10 mg/g DFPE, respectively; n = 6) were implemented. The phenolic composition of DFPE, gas production (GP), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), volatile fatty acid (VFA), and bacteria communities was evaluated after 24 h of incubation. The results showed that GP and NH3-N were reduced by DFPE supplementation. Total VFA, isovaleric acid, and valeric acid were increased (p < 0.05) by the addition of DFPE. No changes (p > 0.05) were observed in pH, acetic acid, propionic acid, isobutyric acid, butyric acid, and the ratio of acetic acid to propionic acid. Additionally, the alpha indexes, including Sobs, Shannon, and Ace, were increased by DFPE supplementation. Moreover, at the phylum level, DFPE supplementation increased (p = 0.01) Bacteroidota but reduced (p < 0.01) Firmicutes. At the genus level, compared to DFPE0, the DFPE10 had increased relative abundances of Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group (p < 0.01), norank_f_Muribaculaceae (p = 0.01), Lachnospiraceae_NK3A20_group (p < 0.01), Christensenellaceae_R-7_group (p < 0.01), and NK4A214_group (p < 0.01), decreased relative abundances of Streptococcus (p < 0.01), Oribacterium (p = 0.01), and Enterococcus (p < 0.01). Compared to DFPE0, DFPE5 had no change (p > 0.05) in all bacteria at the genus level except for decreased relative abundance of Enterococcus (p < 0.01). The aim of this study was to assess the impact of production parameters on the reproducibility of kombucha fermentation over several production cycles based on backslopping. Six conditions with varying oxygen accessibility (specific interface surface) and initial acidity (through the inoculation rate) of the cultures were carried out and compared to an original kombucha consortium and a synthetic consortium assembled from yeasts and bacteria isolated from the original culture. Output parameters monitored were microbial populations, biofilm weight, key physico-chemical parameters and metabolites. Results highlighted the existence of phases in microbial dynamics as backslopping cycles progressed. The transitions between phases occurred faster for the synthetic consortium compared to the original kombucha. This led to microbial dynamics and fermentative kinetics that were reproducible over several cycles but that could also deviate and shift abruptly to different behaviors. These changes were mainly induced by an increase in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae population, associated with an intensification of sucrose hydrolysis, sugar consumption and an increase in ethanol content, without any significant acceleration in the rate of acidification. The study suggests that the reproducibility of kombucha fermentations relies on high biodiversity to slow down the modulations of microbial dynamics induced by the sustained rhythm of backslopping cycles. Studying non-Saccharomyces yeasts as bio-protectors can help find new alternatives to the chemical additive SO2 in winemaking. The present article evaluates the effect of two native yeasts, Candida oleophila and Candida boidinii, as potential bio-protectors to replace SO2 during the production of Sauvignon Blanc wine. Fermentation was conducted on simple and mixed inoculum at two concentrations, 1 × 106 and 1 × 107 cells/mL. We monitored the population of deterioration microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria (LAB), acetic acid bacteria (AAB), and Brettanomyces bruxellensis (BB), apart from the final chemical and volatile composition of the wine. The results were compared with fermentations protected with SO2, where Candida oleophila yeast was more effective against lactic acid bacteria, whereas Candida boidinii was more effective against acetic acid bacteria and Brettanomyces bruxellensis; meanwhile, the fermentations with the initial inoculum of 1 × 107 cells/mL showed better results than those with an inoculum of 1 × 106 cells/mL. Bio-protector use did not negatively affect wine quality, equaling the effectiveness of SO2 for spoilage microorganism inhibition. This study evaluated the effects of two chemical additives or a microbial inoculant on chemical composition and DM losses in whole-plant soybean silage. One-hundred and twenty mini-silos were used in a completely randomized design experiment with the following treatments: water without chloride (control, CON); a microbial inoculant (INO); a chemical additive containing 35–45% formic acid (FA type); and another chemical additive containing 50–60% propionic acid (PA type). Data were analyzed using mixed models of SAS, and treatment differences were evaluated by the following orthogonal contrasts: C1 = CON vs. additives (INO + FA type + PA type); C2 = INO vs. chemical additives (FA type + PA type); and C3 = PA type vs. FA type. Silage pH and ammonia nitrogen concentration were decreased, and concentrations of lactic acid and acetic acid were increased with additives. Counts of lactic acid bacteria were higher in silages with INO than with chemical additives. DM recovery increased with FA type and PA type. Additives increased DM and CP concentrations. Silage A-fraction proportion was greater with additives. Additives, particularly FA type and PA type, improved chemical composition and fermentative profile and reduced undigestible proportions of protein in whole-plant soybean silage. Biofilm-associated infections caused by drug-resistant and persistent bacteria remain a significant clinical challenge. Here we report that farnesol, commercially available as a cosmetic and flavoring agent, shows significant anti-biofilm properties when dissolved in ethanol using a proprietary formulation emulsion technique. Farnesol in the new formulation inhibits biofilm formation and disrupts established biofilms for Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including their polymicrobial biofilms, and, moreover, kills S. aureus persister cells that have developed tolerance to antibiotics. No resistance to farnesol was observed for S. aureus after twenty continuous passages. Farnesol combats biofilms by direct killing, while also facilitating biofilm detachment. Furthermore, farnesol was safe and effective for preventing and treating biofilm-associated infections of both types of bacteria in an ex vivo burned human skin model. These data suggest that farnesol in the new formulation is an effective broad-spectrum anti-biofilm agent with promising clinical potential. In recent years, Additive Manufacturing (AM), commonly referred to as 3D printing, has garnered the attention of the scientific community due to its capacity to transform ordinary and traditional items into customized materials at an affordable cost through various AM processes. Antimicrobial/antibiofilm 3D printed materials are one of the most trending research topics, owing to the growing concerns over the emergence of complex microbial structures called "biofilms" on various surfaces. The review provides an overview of the evolution of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies and their various derivatives, along with a brief description of their materials and applications. It also introduces how biofilms can represent an advantageous lifestyle for microbial populations. The primary objective of this research was to conduct a systematic review of the development of planctonic or biofilm forms of microorganisms on 3D-printed materials. The article summarizes commonly studied microorganisms on these materials and presents their 3D printing process, materials, as well as the fields covered by each of the analyzed papers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first all-inclusive systematic review that amalgamates research conducted in diverse fields to assess the development of biofilms on surfaces produced through three-dimensional printing. Most notably, this review presents a comprehensive account of sustainable approaches for producing antimicrobial materials through 3D printing. Additionally, we assess their advancements in various fields such as medicine, environment, agri-food, and other relevant sectors. The findings of our literature review can be used to recommend appropriate microorganisms, 3D printing materials, and technologies for academic and industrial research purposes, focusing on the development of microbial biofilms on 3D-printed surfaces. Furthermore, it highlights the potential of environmentally friendly modified AM technologies to combat biofilms in clinical and non-clinical areas. Asarum is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, and its dried roots are commonly used as medicinal materials. Research into the traits of the bacteria and fungus in the Asarum rhizosphere and how they relate to the potency of medicinal plants is important. During four cropping years and collecting months, we used ITS rRNA gene amplicon and sequencing to assess the population, diversity, and predominant kinds of bacteria and fungus in the rhizosphere of Asarum. HPLC was used to determine the three bioactive ingredients, namely asarinin, aristolochic acid I, and volatile oil. The mainly secondary metabolites of Asarum, relationships between microbial communities, soil physicochemical parameters, and possible influences on microbial communities owing to various cropping years and collecting months were all statistically examined. The cropping years and collecting months affected the abundance and diversity of rhizosphere bacteria and fungi, but the cropping year had a significant impact on the structures and compositions of the bacterial communities. The rhizosphere microorganisms were influenced by both the soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activities. Additionally, this study revealed that Trichoderma was positively correlated with the three bioactive ingredients of Asarum, while Tausonia showed entirely opposite results. Gibberella and Leptosphaeria demonstrated a significantly negative correlation with asarinin and violate oil, but they were weakly correlated with the aristolochic acid I content. This study revealed variations in the Asarum rhizosphere microorganism population, diversity, and dominant types across four cropping years and collecting months. The relationship between Asarum secondary metabolites, the soil physicochemical properties, enzyme activities, and rhizosphere microorganisms was discussed. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one of the most prevalent chronic inflammations of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). The gut microbial population, the cytokine milieu, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) expressed by immune and nonimmune cells and the intrinsic pathway of Th-cell differentiation are implicated in the immunopathology of IBD. AHR activation requires a delicate balance between regulatory and effector T-cells; loss of this balance can cause local gut microbial dysbiosis and intestinal inflammation. Thus, the study of the gut microbiome in association with AHR provides critical insights into IBD pathogenesis and interventions. The primary objective of this article is to enhance knowledge and comprehension of rumen microbiology by providing an introductory-level overview of the field of rumen microbiology. Ruminants possess a distinctive digestive system optimized for the microbial breakdown of complex plant materials. The ruminant "stomach" consists of four chambers (e.g., reticulum, rumen, omasum, and abomasum), which is home to a microbial population that degrades feedstuffs consumed by ruminant animals. Dr. Robert Hungate and Dr. Marvin Bryant's groundbreaking research in the 1960s laid the foundation for understanding the function of the ruminal microbial ecosystem. Recent advancements (e.g., next-generation sequencing) have provided the field with deeper insight into populations, boosting our understanding of how the microbial population of the rumen functions in a variety of conditions. The ruminal microbial ecosystem is comprised of bacteria, along with archaea, protozoa, bacteriophage, and fungi, each contributing to the symbiotic relationship between the microbial ecosystem and the host animal that is essential for optimal animal health and efficient animal production. Traditional anaerobic growth techniques have facilitated the study of individual anaerobic bacteria but have been limited by dependence on growth in laboratory conditions. The development of 16S rRNA sequencing allows the identification of microbial populations that cannot be grown and allows an unbiased view of microbial diversity. Diet shapes the rumen microbial population composition, influencing animal production metrics such as feed efficiency, methane emissions, and immunological functions. Simple Summary: This review summarizes the main findings about the human seminal microbiome regarding its biological origins, microbial populations, and relationship with fertility and health, as well as the factors that may affect its composition and the potential sources of data variability. Triclosan (TCS), a broad-spectrum antibacterial chemical, is detected in human urine, breast milk, amniotic fluid, and feces; however, little is known about its impact on the intestinal microbiome and host mucosal immunity during pregnancy and early development. Pregnant female rats were orally gavaged with TCS from gestation day (GD) 6 to postpartum (PP) day 28. Offspring were administered TCS from postnatal day (PND) 12 to 28. Studies were conducted to assess changes in the intestinal microbial population (16S-rRNA sequencing) and functional analysis of microbial genes in animals exposed to TCS during pregnancy (GD18), and at PP7, PP28 and PND28. Microbial abundance was compared with the amounts of TCS excreted in feces and IgA levels in feces. The results reveal that TCS decreases the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes with a significant increase in Proteobacteria. At PND28, total Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) were higher in females and showed correlation with the levels of TCS and unbound IgA in feces. The significant increase in Proteobacteria in all TCS-treated rats along with the increased abundance in OTUs that belong to pathogenic bacterial communities could serve as a signature of TCS-induced dysbiosis. Hydrogen creates water during combustion. Therefore, it is expected to be the most promising environmentally friendly energy alternative in the coming years. This study used extract liquid obtained from the waste nigella sativa generated by the black cumin oil industry. The performance of biological hydrogen manufacturing via dark fermentation was investigated in the fluidized bed reactor (FBR) and completely stirred tank reactor (CSTR) under the operation conditions of pH 5.0, 4.0, and 6.0 and a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 36 and 24 h. The performance of hydrogen manufacturing was determined to be good under an organic loading ratio (OLR) of 6.66 g.nigella sativa extract/L and pH 4.0. According to these conditions, the maximum amount of hydrogen in CSTR and FBR was found to be 20.8 and 7.6 mL H2/day, respectively. The operating process of the reactors displayed that a reduction in HRT augmented biohydrogen manufacturing. The work that used mixed culture found that the dominant microbial population at pH 4.0 involved Hydrogenimonas thermophila, Sulfurospirillum carboxydovorans, Sulfurospirillum cavolei, Sulfurospirillum alkalitolerans, and Thiofractor thiocaminus. No research on waste black cumin extract was found in biohydrogen studies, and it was determined that this substrate source is applicable for biological hydrogen manufacturing. Phosphorus (P) stands as a pivotal macroelement in relation to the growth of plants. It plays a significant role in physiological processes, as components of biofilms and nucleotides, and in metabolic activities within plants. The deprivation of phosphorus detrimentally impacts the growth and developmental of plants. However, the rhizosphere's beneficial fungi and bacteria augment the efficacy of phosphorus uptake, participate in the molecular regulation of phosphorus, stimulate physiological alterations in plants, and facilitate signal transmission. In order to give readers a better understanding of the effects and positive roles of soil beneficial fungi and bacteria in regulating plant phosphorus acquisition and transport, this present review introduces the role and influence of rhizosphere microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) in assisting plant phosphorus absorption, and summarizes the key phosphorus transporters found in their interaction with plants. Using mixed microbial populations as composite microbial fertilizers has a positive effect on plants under phosphorus-deficiency conditions. It will be conducive to a better understanding of the mutualistic relationship between fungi, bacteria, and plants to provide a way to reduce the application of phosphorus fertilizers efficiently, and to provide a research background for the development of microbiological fertilizers. The catabolic activity of the ruminal microbial community of cattle enables the conversion of low-quality feedstuffs into meat and milk. The rate at which this conversion occurs is termed feed efficiency, which is of crucial importance given that feed expenses account for up to 70% of the cost of animal production. The present study assessed the relationship between cattle feed efficiency and the composition of their ruminal microbial communities during the feedlot finishing period. Angus steers (n = 65) were fed a feedlot finishing diet for 82 days and their growth performance metrics were evaluated. These included the dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG), and residual feed intake (RFI). Steers were rank-ordered based upon their RFI, and the five lowest RFI (most efficient) and five highest RFI (least efficient) steers were selected for evaluations. Ruminal fluid samples were collected on days 0 and 82 of the finishing period. Volatile fatty acids (VFA) were quantified, and microbial DNA was extracted and the 16S rRNA gene was sequenced. The results showed that the ADG was not different (p = 0.82) between efficiency groups during the 82-day feedlot period; however, the efficient steers had lower (p = 0.03) DMI and RFI (p = 0.003). Less-efficient (high RFI) steers developed higher (p = 0.01) ruminal Methanobrevibacter relative abundances (p = 0.01) and tended (p = 0.09) to have more Methanosphaera. In high-efficiency steers (low RFI), the relative abundances of Ruminococcaceae increased (p = 0.04) over the 82-day period. The molar proportions of VFA were not different between the two efficiency groups, but some changes in the concentration of specific VFA were observed over time. The results indicated that the ruminal microbial populations of the less-efficient steers contained a greater relative abundance of methanogens compared to the high-efficiency steers during the feedlot phase, likely resulting in more energetic waste in the form or methane and less dietary energy being harvested by the less-efficient animals. The influence of polysialic acid (PSA) and sialic acid (SA) on the gut microbial community composition and metabolites in healthy humans was investigated using a bionic gastrointestinal reactor. The results indicated that PSA and SA significantly changed the gut microbiota and metabolites to different degrees. PSA can increase the relative abundances of Faecalibacterium and Allisonella, whereas SA can increase those of Bifidobacterium and Megamonas. Both can significantly increase the content of short-chain fatty acids. The results of metabolome analysis showed that PSA can upregulate ergosterol peroxide and gallic acid and downregulate the harmful metabolite N-acetylputrescine. SA can upregulate 4-pyridoxic acid and lipoic acid. PSA and SA affect gut microbiota and metabolites in different ways and have positive effects on human health. The Dong Taijinar (DT) and Xi Taijinar (XT) Salt Lakes have been extensively researched for their mineral richness. However, the composition and distribution of their microbial communities are still poorly known. In this study, we employed metagenomic sequencing to explore the diversity and potential functions of the microbial populations in DT and XT. Our findings indicate that the salinity levels in DT (332.18–358.30 g/L) were tenfold higher than in XT (20.09–36.83 g/L). Notably, archaea dominated the DT domain at 96.16%, while bacteria prevailed in XT at 93.09%. In DT, the bacterial community comprised 33 phyla and 1717 genera, with Marinobacter emerging as the dominant genus, showing a positive correlation with the total phosphorus content. The archaeal community in DT included four main phyla and 153 genera. The most abundant genera were Natronomonas (24.61%) and Halorubrum (23.69%), which had a strong positive correlation with the concentrations of Na+, Ca2+, and Cl−. Conversely, XT hosted 33 phyla and 1906 bacterial genera, with Loktanella as the dominant genus. The archaeal taxonomy in XT encompassed four phyla and 149 genera. In both salt lakes, Proteobacteria and Euryarchaeota were the most abundant bacterial and archaeal phyla, respectively. Our analysis of the halophilic mechanisms of these microorganisms suggests that the bacteria in XT tend to synthesize compatible solutes, whereas the archaea in DT adopt a 'salt-in' strategy, integrating salt into their cellular machinery to cope with the high-salinity environment. Microorganisms colonizing modern water-based metalworking fluids (MWFs) have been implicated in various occupational respiratory health hazards to machinists. An understanding of the exposure risks from specific microbial groups/genera/species (pathogenic or allergenic) and their endotoxins and the need for strategies for effective, timely fluid management warrant real-time extended tracking of the establishment of microbial diversity and the prevailing fluid-related factors. In the current study, the microbial community composition, succession, and dynamics of a freshly recharged industrial semi-synthetic MWF operation was tracked in real-time over a period of 50 weeks, using a combination of microbiological and molecular approaches. Substantial initial bacterial count (both viable and non-viable) even in the freshly recharged MWF pointed to the inefficiency of the dumping, cleaning, and recharge (DCR) process. Subsequent temporal analysis using optimized targeted genus/group-specific qPCR confirmed the presence of Pseudomonads, Enterics, Legionellae, Mycobacteria (M. immunogenum), Actinomycetes, and Fungi. In contrast, selective culturing using commercial culture media yielded non-specific isolates and collectively revealed Gram-negative (13 genera representing 19 isolates) and Gram-positive (2 genera representing 6 isolates) bacteria and fungi but not mycobacteria. Citrobacter sp. and Bacillus cereus represented the most frequent Gram-negative and Gram-positive isolates, respectively, across different media and Nectria haematococca isolation as the first evidence of this fungal pathogen colonizing semi-synthetic MWF. Unbiased PCR-DGGE analysis revealed a more diverse whole community composition revealing 22 bacterial phylotypes and their succession. Surges in the endotoxin level coincided with the spikes in Gram-negative bacterial population and biocide additions. Taken together, the results showed that semi-synthetic MWF is conducive for the growth of a highly diverse microbial community including potential bacterial and fungal pathogens, the current DCR practices are inefficient in combating microbial reestablishment, and the practice of periodic biocide additions facilitates the build-up of endotoxins and non-viable bacterial population. Simple Summary: Symbiotic bacteria play an essential role in the digestion, detoxification, and nutrient supply of bark and ambrosia beetles. They may even promote the invasiveness and adaptability of invasive beetles. This hinders our ability to comprehend their invasion mechanism and ecological adaptability. Hylurgus ligniperda (Fabricius) (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) is a new invasive pest beetle in China, which colonized the Shandong province, causing devastating damage. Originating in Europe, it has spread to Oceania, Asia, North and South America. Bacterial associates have been frequently reported to play a vital role in strengthening the ecological adaptations of bark and ambrosia beetles. The environmental adaptability of H. ligniperda may be supported by their associated bacteria. Bacterial communities colonizing different body parts of insects may have different functions. However, little is known about the bacteria associated with H. ligniperda and their potential involvement in facilitating the adaptation and invasion of the beetles into new environments. In this study, we employed high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the bacterial communities associated with male and female adults of H. ligniperda by comparing those colonizing the elytra, prothorax, and gut. Results showed that the bacterial communities of male and female adults were similar, and the elytra samples had the highest bacterial diversity and richness, followed by the gut, while the prothorax had the lowest. The dominant phyla were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteriota, while the dominant genera were Serratia, Lactococcus, Rhodococcus, unclassified Enterobacteriaceae, and Gordonia. Among these, Rhodococcus and Gordonia were the specific genera of endobacteria and ectobacteria, respectively. Differences in the distribution of associated bacteria may suggest that they have different ecological functions for H. ligniperda. The results of functional prediction showed that bacteria were enriched in terpenoid backbone biosynthesis, degradation of aromatic compounds, limonene and pinene degradation, neomycin, kanamycin and gentamicin biosynthesis, indicating that they may assist their beetles in synthesizing pheromones, degrading toxic secondary metabolites of host trees, and antagonizing pathogenic fungi. Simple Summary: Garlic skin and Artemisia argyi stalk have broad application prospects as agricultural by-products. However, the current research on them is still relatively limited. Therefore, the focus of this study is to explore the rumen degradation characteristics of these two agricultural by-products, the dynamic changes of surface rumen bacteria and the changes of cellulase activity. Our results showed that garlic skin and Artemisia argyi stalk had good rumen degradability and had different effects on rumen bacteria and cellulase activity (β-glucosidase, endo-β-1,4-glucanase, exo-β-1,4-glucanase and neutral xylanase). The results of these studies can better understand the potential of garlic skin and Artemisia argyi stalk in the rumen of ruminants and provide a scientific basis for the rational utilization and development of agricultural by-products. The purpose of this study was to study the chemical composition, rumen degradation characteristics, surface attached microbial community and cellulase activity of garlic skin (GS) and Artemisia argyi stalk (AS), in order to explain their feeding value. Four 14-month-old healthy Min Dong male goats with permanent rumen fistula were selected as experimental animals. The rumen degradation characteristics of GS and AS were determined by using the nylon bag method, and the bacterial composition, cellulase activity and their relationship on the surface of the two groups were analyzed with high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene. The results showed that in GS and AS, the effective degradation rate (ED) values of dry matter (DM) were 42.53% and 37.12%, the ED values of crude protein (CP) were 37.19% and 43.38%, the ED values of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were 36.83% and 36.23%, and the ED values of acid detergent fiber (ADF) were 33.81% and 34.77%. During rumen degradation, the richness and evenness of bacteria attached to the AS surface were higher. At the phylum level, Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were always the main rumen bacteria in the two groups. At the genus level, fiber-degrading bacteria such as Prevotella, Treponema, and Ruminococcus showed higher levels in GS (p < 0.05). Compared with GS, the activity of β-glucosidase (BG enzyme), endo-β-1,4-glucanase (C1 enzyme), exo-β-1,4-glucanase (Cx enzyme) and neutral xylanase (NEX enzyme) attached to AS surface showed a higher trend. Correlation analysis showed that the relative abundance of Succinivibrio and Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group was positively correlated with the rumen degradability of nutrients in GS, and the relative abundance of Christensenellaceae R-7_group, Succinivibrio and Ruminococcus was positively correlated with the rumen degradability of nutrients in AS. The conclusion of this study shows that AS has more potential to become ruminant roughage than GS. Simple Summary: Semen possesses unique microbiota that are distinct from other microbial populations, such as those in the piglet gut and sow vagina. Environmental variations can result in alterations in the bacterial composition, which might not be detrimental but instead could be essential for sustaining optimal sperm functionality. The present study investigated the seminal microbiota in boars in relation to sperm quality. We found a negative linear relationship between the dominant bacterial orders, specifically potential probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillales) and harmful bacteria (Enterobacterales). Moreover, the abundance of potential probiotic functional bacteria was more frequently observed in high-quality ejaculates. Differences in the abundance of specific small subsets of microbes and their interactions revealed more precise effects on sperm quality than the overall seminal bacterial content (CFU/mL). The findings suggest that alterations in the seminal microbiome are significantly associated with the quality of boar semen, and strategies to increase the richness of functional candidates such as Lactobacillus spp. through herd management practices (e.g., seasonal changes, feeding, microbial exposure, antibiotics, and probiotics use) could create favorable reproductive potentials. The present study was carried out to determine the seminal microbiota of boars and their correlation with sperm quality. A total of 17 ejaculates were collected from 17 Duroc boars and were classified according to sperm quality into two groups: low-quality (n = 8) and high-quality (n = 9). Each ejaculate was subjected to (i) semen evaluation, (ii) bacterial culture and MALDI-TOF identification, and (iii) 16S rRNA gene sequencing and bioinformatic analyses. No difference in the total bacterial count, alpha diversity, and beta diversity between the high-quality group and the low-quality group was detected (p > 0.05). While Globicatella sanguinis was negatively correlated with sperm quality (p < 0.05), Delftia acidovorans was positively correlated with sperm quality (p < 0.05). Lactobacillales (25.2%; LB) and Enterobacterales (10.3%; EB) were the most dominant bacteria and negatively correlated: EB = 507.3 − 0.5 × LB, R2 = 0.24, p < 0.001. Moreover, the abundance of Escherichia-shigella was negatively correlated with LB (r = −0.754, p < 0.001) and positively correlated with Proteus (r = 0.533, p < 0.05). Alysiella was positively correlated with Lactobacillus (r = 0.485, p < 0.05), Prevotella (r = 0.622, p < 0.01), and Staphylococcus (r = 0.489, p < 0.05). In conclusion, seminal microbiota is significantly associated with boar semen qualities. This review aimed to analyze the effects of additives in producing silage from rehydrated corn grains for ruminants. The control treatment studies used in this analysis involved corn grain rehydrated with water only. To be included in the review, the studies needed to follow standardized criteria, including the absence of additives in the control treatment and the silage evaluation of the in animals such as cattle, goats, and sheep. A total of fifteen publications between 2014 and 2023 were included in the final dataset. The PROC ANOVA of SAS was used to compare the results, which included a random effect of comparison within the study, performing a paired comparison. It was observed that additives did not influence the chemical composition, pH, organic acid, ethanol content, microbial population, fermentative losses, aerobic stability, and dry matter in vitro digestibility of rehydrated corn grain silage (p > 0.05). Using additives in corn silage is a promising practice that can significantly benefit silage fermentation. Moisture silage additives mitigate high mycotoxin levels, enhance aerobic stability, improve cell wall digestibility, and increase the efficiency of utilization of silage nitrogen by ruminants. Using fermentation-stimulating additives (Lactobacillus buchneri) can improve the quality of rehydrated corn grain silage. Simple Summary: Global concerns have been raised about the negative effects of antibiotic usage on aquaculture. Synthetic antibiotics have biological alternatives, namely, probiotics, which have the potential to improve fish growth, immunity, intestinal microbial population, and disease resistance. Host-associated probiotics are more adaptable and functional in the known intestinal environment, and two novel strains of Rummeliibacillus sp. and Microbacterium sp. were identified from the flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) intestine. It is scientifically established that the effect of multiprobiotics was better than that of individual probiotics; as such, these two strains were administered in 1 × 108 CFU/g feed at a 50:50 ratio. At the end of the feeding experiment, the growth and feed utilization of the probiotic group (Pro) were higher than those of the control fish. Although serum biochemical parameters did not change, the immune parameter myeloperoxidase increased in the combined probiotic-fed group. These two strains also increased the beneficial microbial abundance in the intestine of the Pro group compared with that in the control fish. Therefore, the identification of the two novel probiotic strains from the flounder intestine has provided a basis for conducting further research, and their combination can be supplemented in commercial flounder cultures in future applications. Two novel strains of Rummeliibacillus sp. and Microbacterium sp. were identified from the intestine of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and characterized in vitro as potential probiotics. Feeds without probiotic and with a 50:50 mixture of these two strains (1 × 108 CFU/g feed) were denoted as the control and Pro diets, respectively. Three randomly selected tanks (20 flounders/tank, ~11.4 g each) were used for each diet replication. After 8 weeks of feeding, the growth and feed utilization of the flounder in the Pro group improved (p < 0.05) compared to the control. Among four immune parameters, only myeloperoxidase activity was elevated in the Pro group. Serum biochemistry, intestinal microbial richness (Chao1), and diversity (Shannon index) remained unchanged (p ≥ 0.05), but phylogenetic diversity was enriched in the Pro fish intestine. Significantly lower Firmicutes and higher Proteobacteria were found in the Pro diet; the genus abundance in the control and Pro was as follows: Staphylococcus > Lactobacillus > Corynebacterium and Lactobacillus > Staphylococcus > Corynebacterium, respectively. Microbial linear discriminant scores and a cladogram analysis showed significant modulation. Therefore, the combination of two host-associated probiotics improved the growth and intestinal microbial population of flounder and could be supplemented in the Korean flounder industry. Simple Summary: The application of extremophilic, acidophilic microbial populations for the bio-oxidation of gold-bearing sulfide concentrates in industry is a source of great interest in the research of these populations. Understanding the effects of different factors on the activity of such acidophilic populations may allow for the performance of the bio-oxidation of sulfide concentrates to be regulated. In the present work, we studied the effects of different temperatures as well as carbon sources (carbon dioxide and molasses) on the rate of the bio-oxidation of a gold-bearing pyrite–arsenopyrite concentrate as well as on the composition of the microbial population performing this process. It was shown that an increase in the temperature from 40 to 50 °C led to a decrease in the intensity of bio-oxidation, while the application of additional carbon dioxide as a carbon source made it possible to prevent the inhibition of bio-oxidation due to a temperature increase. An analysis of the populations formed under different experimental conditions revealed that both temperature and carbon dioxide affected the composition of the microbial population which, in turn, may explain the effect on the bio-oxidation performance. Thus, the use of additional carbon dioxide may be proposed as the method to increase the efficiency of bio-oxidation and to prevent the negative effect of a temperature increase on the activity of bio-oxidation. In the present study, the effect of additional carbon sources (carbon dioxide and molasses) on the bio-oxidation of a pyrite–arsenopyrite concentrate at temperatures of 40–50 °C was studied, and novel data regarding the patterns of the bio-oxidation of gold-bearing sulfide concentrates and the composition of the microbial populations performing these processes were obtained. At 40 °C, additional carbon sources did not affect the bio-oxidation efficiency. At the same time, the application of additional carbon dioxide improved the bio-oxidation performance at temperatures of 45 and 50 °C and made it possible to avoid the inhibition of bio-oxidation due to an increase in the temperature. Therefore, the use of additional carbon dioxide may be proposed to prevent the negative effect of an increase in temperature on the bio-oxidation of sulfide concentrates. 16S rRNA gene profiling revealed archaea of the family Thermoplasmataceae (Acidiplasma, Ferroplasma, Cuniculiplasma, and A-plasma group) and bacteria of the genera Leptospirillum, with Sulfobacillus and Acidithiobacillus among the dominant groups in the community. Temperature influenced the composition of the communities to a greater extent than the additional sources of carbon and the mode of operation of the bioreactor. Elevating the temperature from 40 °C to 50 °C resulted in increases in the shares of Acidiplasma and Sulfobacillus and decreases in the relative abundances of Ferroplasma, Leptospirillum, and Acidithiobacillus, while Cuniculiplasma and A-plasma were more abundant at 45 °C. A metagenomic analysis of the studied population made it possible to characterize novel archaea belonging to an uncultivated, poorly-studied group of Thermoplasmatales which potentially plays an important role in the bio-oxidation process. The present study aims to investigate effects of total flavonoids from Taraxacum mongolicum Hand.-Mazz. (FT) on fermentation quality, antioxidant status, and microbial community of Caragana korshinskii Kom. (CK) silage. CK was ensiled with no additive (CON), 1% FT, and 2% FT on a fresh weight (FW) basis for 60 days. The results showed that 1% FT and 2% FT groups displayed higher DM content than CON group, and 2% FT group had the best effect on nutrient preservation. Compared with CON and 1% FT groups, 2% FT group exhibited the best silage fermentation quality and the highest antioxidant activity, including increased lactic acid, acetic acid concentrations, and the activities of antioxidant enzymes, as well as decreased pH and the ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) concentration. Moreover, the addition of 2% FT significantly affected the microbial community, such as increased abundance of Lactobacillus and decreased abundances of Pseudomonas and unidentified Cyanobacteria. The abundances of Lactobacillus parafarraginis and Lactobacillus brevis were negatively correlated to pH, while they were positively correlated with T-AOC, GSH-Px, and CAT activities. Phytoremediation is used to treat wastewater, wherein plants, microorganisms, and soil work together to remediate pollutants. We evaluated the plant processes that can affect metal mobilization during phytoremediation. The experimental columns were filled with silica sand and soil mixture spiked with redox-sensitive metal(loid)s—arsenic, manganese, and iron, and fitted with an ORP probe and oxygen sensors. Three columns were planted with poplars and three others were no-plant controls. Carbon-rich, synthetic food-processing wastewater was applied at 15.4 mm/day to the columns. Leachate water was analyzed every other week for water quality. Both soil and plant tissue samples were analyzed for metal concentrations, and soils were analyzed for microbial populations. Both treatments reduced 65–70% carbon. ORP ranged from −321 mV to 916 mV and affected metal mobilization. Oxic conditions in planted treatments yielded high ORP, oxygen concentration, and nitrates. Microbial communities were enhanced in both treatments, but the planted columns had more microbial abundance and evenness. Plants successfully accumulated metals in roots from soil with an accumulation factor of up to 40 for some metals and translocated to shoots from roots with a translocation factor of 10.62. The crop coefficient was 1.88, indicating accelerated loss of water in planted columns compared to control columns. The results demonstrated the benefits of plants in creating more oxic conditions, removing more wastewater from the rhizosphere, accumulating and translocating metals in the biomass, and enhancing rhizodegradation of pollutants by microbial population enhancement. Initial evaluations of the System of Rice Intensification in India and elsewhere focused mainly on its impacts on yield and income, and usually covered just one or two seasons. Researchers at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research have conducted a more comprehensive evaluation of SRI methods over six years (six wet and six dry seasons), comparing them with three alternatives: modified, partially mechanized SRI (MSRI) to reduce labor requirements; direct-seeded rice (DSR) as an alternative method for growing rice; and conventional transplanting of rice with flooding of fields (CTF). Grain yield with SRI methods was found to be about 50% higher than with CTF (6.35 t ha−1 vs. 4.27 t ha−1), while the MSRI yield was essentially the same (6.34 t ha−1), 16% more than with DSR (5.45 t ha−1). Water productivity with SRI methods was 5.32–6.85 kg ha-mm−1, followed by 4.14–5.72 kg ha-mm−1 for MSRI, 5.06–5.11 kg ha-mm−1 for DSR, and 3.52–4.56 kg ha-mm−1 for CTF. In comparison with CTF, SRI methods significantly enhanced soil microbial populations over time: bacteria by 12%, fungi by 8%, and actinomycetes by 20%. Biological activity in the rhizosphere was also higher as indicated by 8.5% greater dehydrogenase and 16% more FDA enzymes in soil under SRI management. Similarly, an indicator of soil organic matter, glucosidase activity, was 78% higher compared to CTF. SRI enhanced the relative abundance of beneficial microbial-feeding nematodes by 7.5% compared to CTF, while that of plant-pathogenic nematodes was 7.5% lower under SRI. Relative to conventional methods, SRI management reduced GHG emissions by 21%, while DSR reduced them by 23%, and MSRI by 13%, compared to standard rice-growing practice. Economic analysis showed both gross and net economic returns to be higher with SRI than with the other management systems evaluated. While the six-year study documented many advantages of SRI crop management, it also showed that MSRI is a promising adaptation that provides similar benefits but with lower labor requirements. Climate change is a global emergency that is affecting agriculture in Mediterranean countries, notably the production and the characteristics of the final products. This is the case of olive cultivars, a source of olive oil and table olives. Table olives are the most important fermented vegetables in the Mediterranean area, whose world production exceeds 3 million tons/year. Lactic acid bacteria and yeast are the main microorganisms responsible for the fermentation of this product. The microbial diversity and population dynamics during the fermentation process are influenced by several factors, such as the content of sugars and phenols, all of which together influence the quality and safety of the table olives. The composition of fruits is in turn influenced by environmental conditions, such as rainfall, temperature, radiation, and the concentration of minerals in the soil, among others. In this review, we discuss the effect of climate change on the microbial diversity of table olives, with special emphasis on Spanish and Portuguese cultivars. The alterations expected to occur in climate change scenario(s) include changes in the microbial populations, their succession, diversity, and growth kinetics, which may impact the safety and quality of the table olives. Shaoxing rice wine is a notable exemplar of Chinese rice wine. Its superior quality is strongly correlated with the indigenous natural environment. The results indicated that Firmicutes (75%), Actinobacteria (15%), Proteobacteria (5%), and Bacteroidetes (3%) comprised the prevailing bacterial groups. Among the main bacterial genera, Lactobacillus was the most abundant, accounting for 49.4%, followed by Lactococcus (11.9%), Saccharopolyspora (13.1%), Leuconostoc (4.1%), and Thermoactinomyces (1.1%). The dominant fungal phyla were Ascomycota and Zygomycota. Among the dominant genera, Saccharomyces (59.3%) prevailed as the most abundant, followed by Saccharomycopsis (10.7%), Aspergillus (7.1%), Thermomyces (6.2%), Rhizopus (4.9%), Rhizomucor (2.2%), and Mucor (1.3%). The findings demonstrate that the structure of the bacterial and fungal communities remains stable in the environment, with their diversity strongly influenced by climatic conditions. The continuous fluctuations in environmental factors, such as temperature, air pressure, humidity, rainfall, and light, significantly impact the composition and diversity of microbial populations, particularly the dominant bacterial community. Industrial fruit by-products are now being utilized as animal feeds for several reasons. They may substitute the conventional cereal feeds, and also offer economic and environmental benefits. One of the most important industrial fruit by-products is apple pomace, which can be used as a source of energy in the ration of ruminant species, including dairy cattle. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of feeding dried apple pomace to dairy cattle on ruminal fermentation, fatty acid concentration, microbial populations, and methane production. The experiment lasted 64 days and was conducted with 4 cannulated commercial dairy cows. The control animals received a standard diet, while the experimental animals was fed a standard diet supplemented with 150 g/kg DM dried apple pomace. Ruminal fluid samples were collected at three different time intervals. The samples were obtained at 0-, 3-, and 6-h post-feeding. The ruminal fluid was used to assess the ammonia concentration, pH, volatile fatty acids (VFA), long-chain fatty acids (FA), microbial population. A number of ruminal fermentation variables changed as a result of the addition of dried apple pomace to the standard diet. Ruminal pH slightly increased (p < 0.01) while the ammonia concentration decreased (p < 0.01) by 46%. There was a significant decrease in total protozoa count (p < 0.01) and an increase (p < 0.01) in total volatile fatty acids. In addition, there was a decline in methane emission (p = 0.05) by 8% due to dried apple pomace feeding. To sum up, this study demonstrated a positive effect of 150 g/kg DM dietary dried apple pomace on ruminal metabolism including a decrease in ammonia concentration and methane emissions, alongside with an increase in total ruminal VFAs, higher nutrient digestibility, and milk production. Also, beneficial changes to the ruminal fatty acid profile resulting from reduced biohydrogenation were observed although a decreased content of the C18:2 cis 9 trans 11 isomer was also noticed. Simple Summary: The production of greenhouse gases (GHG) from livestock and its impact on climate change are a major concern worldwide. It has been reported that enteric methane is the most important GHG emitted in ruminant production systems at a farm scale, accounting for approximately 50 to 60%. Many attempts have been made to modify fermentation ruminal and decrease methane production. It has recently been shown some plants, leaves, fruits, and roots reduce methane production in the rumen. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the inclusion of Leucaena leucocephala leaves (LLL) and prickly pear (PP) (Opuntia ficus-indica) in ruminant diets, on ruminal fermentation patterns, methane production, and microbial population under in vitro conditions. The results showed that the inclusion of Leucaena leucocephala in the diet decreased the concentrations of methane (CH4) and also decreased the constant rate of degradation of dry matter, ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), and microbial biomass synthesis (MBS). In addition, Opuntia ficus-indica recorded higher potential gas production and higher dry matter intake compared to Leucaena leucocephala. In this study, four experimental treatments were evaluated: (T1) alfalfa hay + concentrate, (50:50%, DM); (T2) alfalfa hay + Leucaena leucocephala + concentrate, (30:20:50%, DM); (T3) alfalfa hay + prickly pear + concentrate, (30:20:50%, DM); and (T4) alfalfa hay + Leucaena leucocephala + prickly pear + concentrate, (30:10:10:50%, DM). NH3-N concentrations in T2 and T4 decreased when replaced with alfalfa hay in 20 and 10%, respectively. Treatments did not affect the concentration of total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) between T3 and T4 (p > 0.05), while the concentrations among T1 and T2 were different (p < 0.05). T2 showed a reduction of 25.5% in the methane production when compared to T1 (p < 0.05). The lowest concentrations of protozoa were observed in T2 and T4, which contained Leucaena leucocephala (T2) and Leucaena leucocephala + prickly pear (T4) (p < 0.05). The highest concentration of total methanogens was recorded in T1 and was different in T2, T3, and T4 (p < 0.05). Simple Summary: Expanding our understanding of the changes induced by chitosan supplementation on the rumen microbiome and its complexity is not only a key factor in finding strategies to decrease CH4 production from ruminants but also in enhancing our knowledge on the mechanisms of action of chitosan in the rumen. Therefore, this study aimed to expand the knowledge about the activity and mode of action of chitosan on methanogenesis and rumen microbial taxonomy. This is the first study, to our knowledge, accounting for the effects of chitosan on ruminal microorganisms on in vivo conditions and using whole-metagenome sequencing. Chitosan did not affect rumen microbial diversity but induced shifts in the relative abundance of some microbial taxa. Chitosan increased relative abundance of Anaeroplasma and tended to reduce fibrolytic fungi and protozoa, resulting in a shift of ruminal fermentation towards a lower acetic to propionic ratio. However, CH4 emissions, microbial protein synthesis, and productive performance were not affected by CHI supplementation. The dose of chitosan used in this study seemed not to be large enough to have a concomitant improvement in animal performance and CH4 reduction. Therefore, future works with higher doses would be necessary to assess the potential use of this additive as methane inhibitor. This study aimed to expand the knowledge about the activity and mode of action of CHI on methanogenesis and rumen microbial populations in vivo. A total of 16 lactating dairy cows were distributed in two groups, one of them receiving 135 mg CHI/kg body weight daily. The effect on productive performance, milk composition, fermentation efficiency, methane emissions, microbial protein synthesis, and ruminal microbial communities was determined. Supplementation with CHI did not affect rumen microbial diversity but increased the relative abundance (RA) of the bacteria Anaeroplasma and decreased those of rumen ciliates and protozoa resulting in a shift towards a lower acetic to propionic ratio. However, no effect on milk yield or methane intensity was observed. In conclusion, supplementing 135 mg CHI/kg body weight increased the RA of Anaeroplasma and decreased those of rumen ciliates and protozoa, both being related to fiber degradation in the rumen in different ways and resulted in a shift of ruminal fermentation towards more propionate proportions, without affecting CH4 emissions, milk yield, or milk composition.
