An electrical tree discharge model of multilayer insulation paper was prepared, and a voltage of 20 kV was used for electrical tree cultivation and initiation tests. Based on the microscopic image information and partial discharge (PD) information during the aging of the electrical tree, the development of electrical tree discharges between layers of paper comprising epoxy resin-impregnated paper insulation was studied. The results show that, by analysing PD information such as the discharge volume phase spectrum and the discharge repetition rate phase spectrum, the development of the electrical tree branch progresses in four stages: initial, growth, stagnation, and bursting. During the growth and stagnation stages, the main discharge paths of the electrical tree are mainly formed, and there are many filamentous fibres on the path edge. During the burst stage, more branches will be formed on the electrical tree, which will cause the greatest damage to the insulation. With the extension of the electrical tree path, the discharge magnitude and discharge times also increase. There are specific discharge patterns in different growth stages of the electrical tree, and the number of discharge events in each positive half-cycle is significantly greater than that in a negative half-cycle. Combining the microscopic image information and PD information during the aging of such an electrical tree, a theoretical basis for evaluating insulation state by PD monitoring is realised. The economy of the paper industry largely depends on the quality of the paper manufactured and the quality depends on the precise operation of Headbox, which is the key element of the paper machine and is highly responsible for the quality of the paper manufactured. Being a nonlinear multivariable system, a headbox needs to be controlled efficiently to have the desired response which in turn reflects in the quality of the paper. The headbox is subjected to various disturbances and thus it is required not only to suppress the effect of disturbances but also to ensure the smooth start of the headbox and fast response to the set-point changes. A control technique is proposed in this paper for a paper machine headbox based on the determination of ultimate gain and frequency using the fractional-order integrator (FOI). The PID tuning technique proposed has been applied on paper machine headbox and the responses are compared with the existing techniques.

Using a new opinion dynamics using the polarity analysis of measured data of Twitter about "toilet paper" and "COVID-19", we analyzed the chain of fear that people feel for the rumor of lack of toilet paper and COVID-19 itself. We use opinion dynamics for the analysis of the fears, and we obtain the opinion distribution of the fear calculated using the opinion dynamics and the observed distribution. By comparing the two distribution, we found that the opinion distribution for the fear is consisted with the mixture of trust and distrust.

The fabrication and characterization of a paper and pencil based resistive touch sensor is carried out in the present work. The sensor detects the effective change in the resistance, when the finger is placed on it. An ash less, low cost, easy to access, bio-degradable, flexible, light weight, easy to fabricate and ultra-thin sensor is developed by drawing interdigitated graphite electrodes on the Whatman filter paper of grade 42. Change in the resistance is due to the path created for flow of electrons, when the finger is placed. Current versus time and $\Delta$ R/Ro versus time characterization of fabricated device is done using Keithley 2450 source meter. Response of the device has made noticeable changes for the finger contact. The measured resistance of the non-touch and touch is found to be 80.154 M $\Omega$ and 4.748 M $\Omega$ respectively. This huge change in resistance is sufficient to detect the touch. The performance and sensitivity of the proposed sensor are evaluated using the test circuit and smart switch is developed on paper substrate.

However, technologies, such as computers, the World Wide Web (WWW), Moodle, sensor networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Virtualization and Immersion technologies are constantly changing the nature of education and learning. As a consequence, and through a series of arguments, we establish that the genders of many popular disciplines are becoming feminine in nature. We also define two terms, namely, Gender Capital and Gender Capitalization, through which respectively one could possibly define and analyze ways and means by which the changing nature of genders of disciplines can be profitably exploited for the global goodness.

With the rapid growth of scientific publications, research paper recommendation which suggests relevant research papers to users can bring great benefits to researchers. In this paper, we focus on the problem of recommending conference papers to the conference attendees. While most of the related existing methods depend on the content-based filtering, we propose a unified conference paper recommendation method named $CPRec$ , which exploits both the contents and the authorship information of the papers. In particular, besides the contents, we exploit the relationships between a user and the authors of a paper for recommendation. In our method, we extract several features for a user-paper pair from the citation network, the coauthor network, and the contents, respectively. In addition, we derive a user’s pairwise preference towards the conference papers from the user’s bookmarked papers in each conference. Furthermore, we employ a pairwise learning to rank model which exploits the pairwise user preference to learn a function that predicts a user’s preference towards a paper based on the extracted features. We conduct a recommendation performance evaluation using real-world data and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

We often point to the relative increase in the amount and sophistication of evaluations of visualization systems versus the earliest days of the field as evidence that we are maturing as a field. I am not so convinced. In particular, I feel that evaluations of visualizations, as they are ordinarily performed in the field or asked for by reviewers, fail to tell us very much that is useful or transferable about visualization systems, regardless of the statistical rigor or ecological validity of the evaluation. Through a series of thought experiments, I show how our current conceptions of visualization evaluations can be incomplete, capricious, or useless for the goal of furthering the field, more in line with the “heroic age” of medical science than the rigorous evidence-based field we might aspire to be. I conclude by suggesting that our models for designing evaluations, and our priorities as a field, should be revisited.

Our proposed method focuses on offline friends who are acquainted with a target user in the real world. We use Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) to distinguish between online friends of a target user who are also offline friends and online friends who are acquainted with the target user only in cyberspace. By utilizing the probability of friendship as a function of the geographical distance between users’ home locations, our proposed method achieves an estimation accuracy 1.7 percentage point better than that of a conventional method. We have also been able to verify the effectiveness of an optimization method that narrows down candidate areas for a target user’s home location.

Many proof-of-concepts (POCs) projects and experiments have been carried out to explore the strengths and weaknesses of constructing financial market infrastructures upon BCs. The experiments showed that considerable improvements are still necessary to meet financial requirements such as safety, efficiency, reliability, scalability, security and transparency. The Principles for Financial Market Infrastructure (PFMI), issued by the Committee on Payment and Settlement System (CPSS) and International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), is a key standard for designing Financial Market Infrastructures (FMIs) so that global financial markets could be more robust and stable, especially, could withstand financial shocks. It is thus necessary to design BC-based FMIs according to PFMI. This position paper analyzes financial system requirements and the challenges, and discusses the design issues of BCs in meeting PFMI.

Tukey emphasized decades ago that taking exploratory findings as confirmatory is “destructively foolish”. We reframe recent conversations about the reliability of results from exploratory visual analytics—such as the multiple comparisons problem—in terms of Gelman and Loken’s garden of forking paths to lay out a design space for addressing the forking paths problem in visual analytics. This design space encompasses existing approaches to address the forking paths problem (multiple comparison correction) as well as solutions that have not been applied to exploratory visual analytics (regularization). We also discuss how perceptual bias correction techniques may be used to correct biases induced in analysts’ understanding of their data due to the forking paths problem, and outline how this problem can be cast as a threat to validity within Munzner’s Nested Model of visualization design. Finally, we suggest paper review guidelines to encourage reviewers to consider the forking paths problem when evaluating future designs of visual analytics tools.

Our understanding of COVID-19 pandemic epidemiology has many gaps, with many challenges arising on a global scale. This paper looks at the problem at a smaller geographical scale, the extent of the campus of a large organization. Equipped with an asymptomatic testing program and rough location data from the campus wireless network, we make the case that epidemiological models may be informed from this new source of data, which offers fidelity at the temporal resolution of seconds and spatial resolution of a Wi-Fi cell size, in particular for the tasks of pinpointing clusters of cases and contexts of infection transmission. We sketch the design of a system that fuses the two foregoing information streams and explain how the result can be incorporated into standard epidemiological models of communicable disease, both for better parameter estimation in elementary models, as well as for providing spatial inputs into more sophisticated models. We conclude with logistical and privacy considerations we have encountered in an associated ongoing study, to inform similar efforts at other organizations.

Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on computer supported education (CSEDU): Funchal, Madeira, Portugal: March 15, 2018, This paper examines the preferences of students regarding computer-based versus paper-based assessment, in an introductory computer programming course. Two groups of students were surveyed about their preference between paper-based and computer-based tests and respective rationale. All students had already been assessed: one group using two paper-based tests and the other group using two computer-based tests. Both groups expressed an overwhelming preference for computer-based tests independently of their previous programming experience. We conclude that, from the students’ point of view, computer-based tests should be the used over paper-based ones for introductory programming courses. This adds to existing literature about computer-based testing of programming skills.

It can be used to analyze professional academic research papers. In this paper, a critical genre analysis of 28 highly cited research papers on authentication schemes reveals problem-solution structure is adopted in these papers. The art tradition of cryptography forms the foundation of the way schemes are designed. Practicality and application requirement in daily life are the reasons that researchers advertise the superiority of their proposed schemes.

In order to solve the problem of low efficiency that the paper standardization inspection is basically completed by manual work. This paper proposes an automatic detection framework based on document rule tree (DRT) and can solve the problem well. The practical application results show that good results have been achieved in terms of accuracy and query efficiency.

In modern academic social network, it is very difficult for scholars to find academic papers consistent with their research direction. Time is a critical factor in paper recommendation. As time goes on, the impact of an academic paper would gradually fade. Likewise, the research interests of users may also change. Therefore, we propose a temporal perceptual neural collaborative filtering model that integrates the multi-dimensional features of papers. We conducted our experiments on the dataset from CiteULike, comparing the recommended results by using four time-decay functions and evaluating our model with multiple evaluation indicators. The satisfactory results show that our model is effective in filtering out the expired papers by considering the characteristics of papers and the changes of scholars' interests.

However, what constitutes a modern software system? Where should the security and resilience mechanisms be-in the application software or in the cloud environment where it runs? In this concept paper, we set up a context to pose these questions and present a roadmap to answer them. We describe challenges to achieving resilience and beyond, and outline potential research directions to stimulate discussion in the workshop.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have recently gained a lot of attention as a new e-learning paradigm. Despite its widespread use, the high percentage of students who do not use it raises concerns among institutions in developed countries who have spent considerable time and money developing it. As a result, it is critical to comprehend the variables that affect students' decisions to take MOOCs. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for assessing MOOC acceptance among students in Nigerian higher education institution, and it expands on the technology acceptance model (TAM). Five constructs and two moderators are identified and hypothesized and synthesis of related prior literature: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, reputation, subjective norm, facilitating condition, and technology awareness. The suggested conceptual framework in this research enriches existing literature on student’s intention to use MOOCs.

This paper explores the possibility of using knowledge graph technology and deep learning. Knowledge graph in particular, addressing syllabus fairness and deep learning for novelty check. The objective is to propose a feasible framework, taking into consideration several aspects. These aspects are: to meet at least three levels of bloom taxonomy, support of course outcomes (CO) and Program Outcomes (PO) attainment. They are achieved by judging syllabus fairness, support for judging more spontaneous answering potential with novelty checks. The prototype implemented using this framework showed promising results motivating for further research.

While in recent years e-books are rapidly becoming widespread, many people choose "paper books" to enjoy reading. Part of the reason is assumed that reading books is not just about absorbing the information written in them, but it is about enjoying a sense of touch when turning the pages. In this research, we focus on "a sense of physical touch", the feeling of actually turning the pages of a paper book. We also design software and devices that provide users with a "sense of physical touch", often lost when reading an e-book on a smartphone.

Its accuracy has a direct impact on the quality and the fairness of the review process. The accuracy of the automatic assignment depends on both the assignment algorithm and the way similarity factors between papers and reviewers are calculated. This paper proposes an architecture and a working model of a software tool for accuracy evaluation of the calculated similarity factors between papers and reviewers. It has been used over a hundred times and proved to be very useful for evaluation and comparative analysis of existing methods of describing papers and reviewers' competences.

According to the Canadian Science Publishing, there are approximately 2.5 million scientific papers published each year. The huge volume of publications can be contributed to a substantial increase in the total number of academic journals, including the increasing number of predatory or fake scientific journals, which yield high volumes of poor-quality research work. The effect of this scenario is that there is an obsolete jungle of journals to flip through in searching for high-quality and relevant references for researchers, ranging from the ones who simply look for citations to cite or latest development and knowledge in a specific scientific area of study. In solving this problem, we propose a unique, elegant research paper recommender. Besides considering the topics and contents of related publications, our recommender also examines the peer reviews, authority, and popularity of each publication to ensure its quality. Conducted empirical study shows that our recommender outperforms existing research paper recommenders and contributes to the design of searching relevant publications.

This conceptual paper argues that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and attitude are insufficient in explaining online health information seeking patterns among women. Building on the technology acceptance model, this paper presents socio-economic status/income as a direct influence on the attitude that web users have towards searching for health-related information on the internet. This newly added socio-demographic construct offers an understanding of how social factors can determine attitude towards online health information-seeking behavior. The paper conceptualizes socioeconomic status as another factor that has a direct influence attitude, thus influencing women's decision to use or not to use online health-related content. This study highlights the implications of the positive attitude of women towards online health-related content which sometimes does not translate into the actual use of online health-related information. Thus, by introducing income as a limiting or motivating factor, it helps to explain how the affordability of access to the internet might explain why women have a positive attitude towards the internet through their perceptions of its usefulness and ease of use and yet decide not to utilize it.

Our proposed approach automatically localizes figures from research papers, classifies them, and analyses the content of the diagram-figures. The key steps in analyzing the Figure content is the extraction of the different components data and finding their structural relation. Finally, the extracted components and their relations are represented in the form of a deep knowledge graph. A thorough evaluation on a real-word annotated dataset has been done to demonstrate the efficacy of our approach.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, 70E® uses the terms “employee” or “person in charge” 28 times. The National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) uses the term seven times. The term is important in all three documents, yet none of them define it. This paper offers an analysis of the use of the term in these documents, and details why that role is critical to safe work practices on or near electrical conductors and circuit parts, with particular focus on its function in high voltage work.

The electrical industry has greatly evolved over the past several decades. Originally, there was no such thing as a “safety culture”. Now, hundreds of the industry's leading minds show up annually for a full week to learn, listen, and exchange ideas for stopping electrical incidents and injuries in the workplace. Under normal operations, most companies have adopted the “Safety First” mantra. In 2020, the world was faced with something it had never seen before; a modern-day pandemic. This completely changed the way that we here in the United States were able to conduct business. When circumstances change so rapidly even on a day to day basis and people's businesses and the ability to support their families are put on the line, is safety still first? In this paper, we will discuss the struggles of operating a business and keeping employees as safe as possible during the 2020 SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) (COVID-19) Pandemic. We linked with other professionals and centers of excellence from around the world in the electrical sector to advance our mission of a Safety-First culture. The innovations required involved human performance best practices to overcome these substantial barriers to everyday work tasks. The US Department of Homeland Security deemed the Energy Sector as critically essential. They stated, “The U.S. energy infrastructure fuels the economy of the 21st century. Without a stable energy supply, health and welfare are threatened, and the U.S. economy cannot function [1].” The electrical industry could not shut down in this crisis. Our industry needed to adapt, in real-time, to the environments they were in. Engineers, technicians, and electricians dealt daily with this new hazard that they could not see, interestingly not unlike electricity. The ongoing respect for electricity that our employees have always had, along with the ability to adapt quickly in innovative ways made it possible to still provide this essential work to keep the country moving.

Water inside a transformer tank is undesirable because this water causes the following problems. Firstly, on overload bubbles of water may form in the oil weakening its dielectric strength and increasing the risk of catastrophic flashovers across the oil. Secondly, it shortens the life expectancy of the Kraft paper insulation, which is one of the main factors limiting the functional life of transformers. It is therefore necessary to measure the water content of paper insulation so that a utility can take corrective action when required. Cellulose adsorption isotherms have been used to determine the water content of paper using online water activity probes. A disadvantage however is that the application of this method requires that the insulation media is in thermodynamic equilibrium, which due to load cycling usually is not the case. Practically, this problem is resolved by taking a long-term average of the measurements. This solution is not optimal because actual changes in water content will also be smoothed out. The migration of water between paper and oil is a very slow process. Therefore, a low-pass mathematical filter was developed which would retain this process but reject higher frequency components. This filter was also investigated using measurement from operating power transformers.

Atomic Bonded Cross-chain Debt (ABCD) is the first non-custodial smart-contract-independent cross-chain atomic bond. Theoretical aspects of ABCD have been presented in the International Conference on Blockchain Technology and Applications (ICBTA) and won the best presentation award. It is the first time a demo of Atomic Bonded Cross-chain Debt is presented.

According to the Canadian Science Publishing, there are approximately 2.5 million scientific papers published each year. The huge volume of publications can be contributed to a substantial increase in the total number of academic journals, including the increasing number of predatory or fake scientific journals, which yield high volumes of poor-quality research work. The effect of this scenario is that there is an obsolete jungle of journals to flip through in searching for high-quality and relevant references for researchers, ranging from the ones who simply look for citations to cite or latest development and knowledge in a specific scientific area of study. Querying existing web search engines and research paper archived websites is not the solution to the problem, since they are m-equipped to suggest high quality publications to meet the users’ information needs. In solving this problem, we propose an elegant research paper recommender, which is unique compared with existing ones, since besides considering the topics and contents of related publications, it also examines the authority and popularity of each publication to ensure its quality. Conducted empirical study shows that our recommender outperforms existing research paper recommenders and contributes to the design of searching relevant publications.

Plastic bags have been introduced in the middle of 19th decade and it's received a huge popularity amongst the consumers and retailers. Around the world, numerous plastic plants are manufacturing tons of plastic bags which are very commonly used by the society because of its comfort, cheapness and handiness. But the adverse impact of plastic is certainly not highlighted or not openly debated in a serious tone. The negative impact of the plastic in the environment made many counties to ban it due to public concern. Specifically, in Agri dominant countries, such as Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa, etc., the government has taking stringent efforts towards the prevention of single ended plastic. Since, plastic bags are not bio-degradable, the only way to get rid of them is to burn up which discharges the toxic fumes into atmosphere. Dumping of plastics at the soil will also results in degradation of soil quality and makes it as an unfit to the agriculture. The domestic animals will take the plastic papers as food which will lead to their death. An ultimate solution to the above said problem is the replacement of paper bags, in the place of plastic bags. The cost, ease, availability and load carrying capacity are the main factors restricting the use of paper bags among the public. Only Few manufactures are available in the field and due to the cost of machineries, complexity of production, availability of raw materials, man power and electricity demand results in higher cost which becomes as a barrier among the common man in the adoption of paper bags. In this paper, a cost effective, portable, solar powered paper-bag making machine is proposed to produce paper-bags. The proposed design will minimize the usage of plastic bags and assist in the motto of a clean and safe society. The machine is capable of handling different sizes and textures of the paper. It also has the provision to control the speed of production and monitor the quality of the output. The bags are tested for standard conditions and were found to have enough strength to replace 20-micron plastic bags.

In many fields, a mass of algorithms with completely different hyperparameters have been developed to address the same type of problems. Choosing the algorithm and hyperparameter setting correctly can promote the overall performance greatly, but users often fail to do so due to the absence of knowledge. How to help users to effectively and quickly select the suitable algorithm and hyperparameter settings for the given task instance is an important research topic nowadays, which is known as the CASH problem. In this paper, we design the Auto-Model approach, which makes full use of known information in the related research paper and introduces hyperparameter optimization techniques, to solve the CASH problem effectively. Auto-Model tremendously reduces the cost of algorithm implementations and hyperparameter configuration space, and thus capable of dealing with the CASH problem efficiently and easily. To demonstrate the benefit of Auto-Model, we compare it with classical Auto-Weka approach. The experimental results show that our proposed approach can provide superior results and achieves better performance in a short time., 12 pages, 3 figures

With the mutual integration of computer technology and education, promoting the reform of education and teaching network, online examination mode has gradually become an important means of new education measurement. The online examination system has basically realized the examinee answer, check and system group, and other functions, but there is a set of performance is not high, the examination such as the imperfection of the auxiliary function, in view of the above problem, this paper analyzes the group's related theory, using genetic algorithm as a smart group volume is determined, and genetic operation process of the group to carry on the design and improvement; At the same time, the system function and framework technology are deeply analyzed, the system function framework is established, and the intelligent test system is finally realized.

Electrical workers are fatally injured from multiple causes and electrical work is a subset of all occupational electrical fatalities. This work is a state by state comparison of 2011-2018 US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) fatal occupational injury statistics for workers classified as “electricians.” The top state 2011–2018 BLS fatal occupational injury statistics illustrate that the BLS fatal injury data for electricians generally reflects the state fatal occupational injury data for all workers. State licensing requirements for electricians demonstrate that the eleven states which require a formal apprenticeship or education are among those states with lower fatal injury rates for electricians. Correlations and implications are also explored between “electrician” fatal injuries and: 1) state licensing and continuing education requirements for electricians and electrical contractors; 2) OSHA-approved state plans; and 3) state political ideology. Fatal electrical accident records from 2011-2018 OSHA accident reports which involved electrical work are discussed for the states which did not record any electrician work fatalities. How to reach electricians in higher risk states and how to reach non-qualified workers who do electrical work are addressed.

The study related to pharmaceutical packaging has come to attention for its importance to the quality of drugs and compliance achievement. The aims of this study is to provide a conceptual view of producing a new model of pharmaceutical drug packaging design to overcome existing problems. The proposed methods for this research is to use the process mining techniques to support the construction of a new model for pharmaceutical packaging design process improvement. A case study method was selected for the methodology of the research resulted the flow of packaging design process in pharmaceutical company. The study lengthens the knowledge of drug packaging design process and concludes the importance of drug packaging design process to be investigated for compliance fulfilment purposes. This study is significant to the strong implication of drug quality and safety outcomes for the patients.
