Superconductivity and magnetism are competing effects that can coexist in certain regimes. Their co-existence leads to unexpected new behaviors that include the onset of exotic electron pair mechanisms and topological phases. In this work, we study the properties of a Josephson junction between two spin-split superconductors. The spin-splitting in the superconductors can arise from either the coupling to a ferromagnetic material or an external magnetic field. The properties of the junction are dominated by the Andreev bound states that are also split. One of these states can cross the superconductor's Fermi level, leading to a ground-state transition characterized by a suppressed supercurrent. We interpret the supercurrent blockade as coming from a dominance of p-wave pairing close to the junction, where the electrons are at both sides. To support this interpretation, we analyze the different pairing channels and show that p-wave pairing is favored in the case where the magnetization of the two superconductors is parallel and suppressed in the anti-parallel case. We also analyze the noise spectrum that shows signatures of the ground-state transition in the form of an elevated zero-frequency noise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study theoretically the supercurrent and the superconducting diode effect (SDE) in a structure comprising parallel-coupled double quantum dots (DQDs) sandwiched between two superconductor leads in the presence of a magnetic flux. The influence of the Rashba spin–orbit interaction (RSOI), which induces a spin-dependent phase factor in the dot–superconductor coupling strength, is taken into account by adopting the nonequilibrium Green's function technique. This RSOI-induced phase factor serves as a driving force for the supercurrent in addition to the usual superconducting phase difference, and it leads to the system's left/right asymmetry. Correspondingly, the magnitude of the positive and negative critical currents become different from each other: the so-called SDE. Our results show that the period, magnitude, and direction of the supercurrents depend strongly on the RSOI-induced phase factor, dots' energy levels, interdot coupling strengths, and the magnetic flux. In the absence of magnetic flux, the diode efficiency is negative and may approach − 2 , which indicates the perfect diode effect with only negative flowing supercurrent in the absence of a positive one. Interestingly enough, both the sign and magnitude of the diode efficiency can be efficiently adjusted with the help of magnetic flux, the dots' energy levels and the interdot coupling strength and thus provide a controllable SDE by rich means, such as gate voltage or host materials of the system. Nonreciprocal responses in noncentrosymmetric systems contain a broad range of phenomena. Especially, non-dissipative and coherent nonreciprocal transport in solids is an important fundamental issue. The recent discovery of superconductor (SC) diodes under external magnetic fields, where the magnitude of the critical current changes as the direction is reversed, significantly boosted this research area. However, a theoretical understanding of such phenomena is lacking. Here, we provide theoretical descriptions of SC diodes with a generalized Ginzburgâ€"Landau method. The theory is applied to Rashba spinâ€"orbit coupled systems, where analytical relations between the nonreciprocal critical currents and the system parameters are achieved. Numerical calculations with mean-field theory are also obtained to study broader parameter regions. These results offer a rather general description and design principles of SC diodes. Hybrid samples combining superconductors with magnetic topological insulators are a promising platform for exploring exotic new transport physics. We examine a Josephson junction of such a system based on the dilute magnetic topological insulator (Hg,Mn)Te and the type II superconductor MoRe. In the zero and very low field limits, to the best of our knowledge, the device shows, for the first time, an induced supercurrent through a magnetically doped semiconductor, in this case, a topological insulator. At higher fields, a rich and hysteretic magnetoresistance is revealed. Careful analysis shows that the explanation of this behavior can be found in magnetic flux focusing stemming from the Meissner effect in the superconductor, without invoking any role of proximity-induced superconductivity. The phenomena is important because it will ubiquitously coexist with any exotic new physics that may be present in this class of devices.
