BACKGROUND: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age, characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology. Emerging evidence indicates that neurological disorders play a significant role in the etiology of PCOS, highlighting the complex interplay between the central nervous system (CNS) and ovarian function. Yulinzhu, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, has been traditionally used to regulate menstrual cycles and improve fertility. This study aims to investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of Yulinzhu in treating PCOS induced by neurological disorders. METHODS: An extensive literature search was performed across electronic databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), covering publications up to 1 June 2024. The review included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared Yulin Zhu with placebo, standard care, or other active treatments in patients with PCOS. Two reviewers independently carried out data extraction and quality assessment. Meta-analyses were conducted using both fixed and random-effects models, with heterogeneity evaluated using the I2 statistic. RESULTS: We screened 891 records and included 6 studi es in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis revealed that Yulinzhu about effective rate [RR = 1.19, 95% CI (1.10, 1.29), p < 0.0001], pregnancy rate [RR = 2.80, 95% CI (1.65, 4.76), p < 0.0001] and ovulation rate [RR = 1.33, 95% CI (1.10, 1.62), p = 0.04]. Meta-analysis shows the results of follicle estrogen [WMD = 0.69, 95% CI (-0.39, 1.78), p = 0.21], luteinizing hormone [WMD = -2.27, 95% CI (-3.86, -0.67), p = 0.005], testosterone [WMD = -0.44, 95% CI (-0.64, -0.25), p < 0.0001], estradiol [WMD = 16.20, 95% CI (2.74, 29.67), p < 0.0001]. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that plant medicine compund Yulinzhu may effectively treats PCOS including hormonal regulation, anti-inflammatory actions, and neuroprotection. We expect further research with larger, well-designed clinical trials to substantiate our conclusions.

The Guangdong Province Laboratory Animals Ordinance (the GPLAO), officially enacted and implemented in October 2010, marked a new phase of legal management in the administration of laboratory animals in Guangdong Province. The GPLAO clearly authorizes the laboratory animal monitoring institutes in Guangdong Province to conduct laboratory animal quality monitoring and assume corresponding legal responsibilities. It also specifies the standards for the production and use of laboratory animals, while bringing attention to laboratory animal welfare and ethics. Through the formulation of supporting documents, the active promotion of the standardization and regulation of administrative law enforcement, and the implementation of measures to delegate power, streamline administration, and optimize government services, significant improvements have been made in the standardized management of laboratory animals in Guangdong Province and in supporting the innovative development of biomedicine. Moreover, notable achievements have been made in areas such as the construction of experimental animal technology platforms, standardization work, the preservation and development of unique resources, and talent pool development. However, with the advancements in science and technology, social economy, and legislative work, some aspects in the GPLAO have been identified for improvement. These include the need for clearer provisions on laboratory animal welfare, more specific guidelines for the management of genetically engineered animals, improved regulations on the safety and welfare of practitioners, further refined implementation of the "one-vote veto system", continued promotion of laboratory animal standardization, and the exploration of effective mechanisms for resource sharing. This paper reviews and summarizes the institutional characteristics, post-legislation implementation, and effectiveness of the GPLAO, as well as the issues and countermeasures identified during the implementation. It concludes the laboratory animals management practices in Guangdong Province during the past 10 years, aiming to provide a reference for laboratory animal legislation.

The western margin of the Ordos Basin and its adjacent regions have undergone a complex tectonic evolution from the Mesozoic to the Cenozoic era. However, the question of tectonic uplift since the Cenozoic era remains a topic of contention, and the regional thermal evolution history necessitates precise chronological evidence. Situated close to the thrust belt within the western margin of the Ordos Basin, the Niushoushan-Luoshan area holds pivotal significance in unraveling the Mesozoic tectonic events within the basin's confines. Through a meticulous exploration employing apatite fission track (AFT) analysis and thermal history simulation, this study delineates the Mesozoic uplift sequence and its temporal confines in the Niushoushan-Luoshan area. The results reveal that the Mesozoic uplift within this region predominantly occurred during the Middle Jurassic period (170 Ma) to the end of the Early Cretaceous (110 Ma). Furthermore, we observe a slightly earlier onset of uplift in the Luoshan area (170 Ma) compared to the Niushoushan area (160 Ma). This uplift is primarily attributed to the north-eastward extrusion of the Qilian orogenic belt. Combining our findings with existing research, we propose that the Cenozoic uplift in the western margin of the Ordos Basin and its adjacent areas started during the Late Triassic, comprising two distinct phases: the first phase unfolding from the Late Triassic (220 Ma) to the end of the Early Jurassic (185 Ma), and the second phase occurring from the Middle Jurassic (175 Ma) to the end of the Early Cretaceous (110 Ma); the uplift in the Niushoushan-Luoshan area is part of the second phase of uplift along the western margin of the Ordos Basin. The two Cenozoic tectonic uplift phases along the western margin of the Ordos Basin display characteristics of north-to-south and southwest-to-northeast propagation, respectively. It is inferred to be associated with the Late Triassic collision between the North China and South China blocks, as well as the movement of the Lhasa Block converging toward the northeast during the Middle to Late Jurassic.

This study examined and summarized the operations and achievements of laboratory animal license administration in Guangdong Province and presents preliminary suggestions based on the deficiencies in the current administration. The study utilized laboratory animal licensing data of Guangdong Province obtained from the National Laboratory Animal License Inquiry and Administration System, and uses a combination of statistical analysis, literature review, and comparative research. Various aspects of the workings of the laboratory animal license administration in Guangdong Province were analyzed, including license issuance, regional distribution, animal species, organization types, facility scale, and development trend of laboratory animal license administration in Guangdong Province to identify areas of improvements. The following measures were recommended to the Guangdong Province: increasing social awareness about the importance of using laboratory animals, promoting the publicity and implementation of laws and regulations on laboratory animals, strengthening the strategic resource reserve of experimental animals, improving the management system of aquatic laboratory animals, and optimizing information management. Through such measures, we aimed to provide reference for the administration of laboratory animals in other regions.

Understanding changes in runoff due to climate variations in glacier-dominated headwaters is key to managing water resources and dryland watersheds effectively and rationally. The continuous glacier shrinkage caused by climate warming has significantly impacted the water supply and ecological systems in the vast arid regions of Central Asia, attracting extensive public concern. The study results indicate an increase in total runoff at the Urumqi River source region during both the baseline (1997–2016) and mid-century (2040–2059) periods, encompassing rain, glacier meltwater, and snowmelt components. Compared to the baseline period, the temperature increases by the mid-century under the three climate scenarios (SSP1−26, SSP2−45, and SSP5−85) range from 0.98 to 1.48 °C. In this region, during the period from 1997 to 2016, glacier meltwater was the dominant component of runoff, comprising 42.10–43.79% of the total, followed by snowmelt at 29.64–30.40% and rainfall contributions of 26.56–27.49%. Additionally, glacier storage in this typical catchment responds quickly to temperature fluctuations, significantly impacting runoff. The Urumqi River source region's runoff exhibits heightened sensitivity to these temperature shifts compared to precipitation effects. We hypothesized three glacier coverage scenarios: unchanged at 100% glaciation, reduced by half to 50%, and fully retreated to 0% glaciation. Analysis of these scenarios demonstrated that glaciers are pivotal in runoff formation. Under the SSP1−26, SSP2−45, and SSP5−85 climate scenarios, glaciers contributed additional runoff increases of 51.61%, 57.64%, and 62.07%, respectively. Generally, glaciers play a critical role in supplying water in dry areas. As a heavily glaciated region, the Eastern Pamir plays a crucial role in regional water supply. However, considerable ambiguity surrounds the distribution of glacier ice thickness and the details of ice volume. Accurate data at the local scale are largely insufficient. In this study, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) was applied to assess the ice thickness at Muztagh Glacier No.16 (MG16) in Muztagh Ata, Eastern Pamir, for the first time, detailing findings from four distinct profiles, bridging the gap in regional measurements. We utilized a total of five different methods based on basic shear stress, surface velocity, and mass conservation, aimed at accurately delineating the ice volume and distribution for MG16. Verification was conducted using measured data, and an aggregated model outcome provided a unified view of ice distribution. The different models showed good agreement with the measurements, but there were differences in the unmeasured areas. The composite findings indicated the maximum ice thickness of MG16 stands at 115.87 ± 4.55 m, with an ice volume calculated at 0.27 ± 0.04 km3. This result is relatively low compared to the findings of other studies, which lies in the fact that the GPR measurements somewhat constrain the model. However, the model parameters remain the primary source of uncertainty. The results from this study can be used to enhance water resource assessments for future glacier change models. Time‐sensitive networking (TSN) is considered one of the most promising solutions to address real‐time scheduling in in‐vehicle network due to its capabilities for providing deterministic service. The TSN working group proposed various traffic shaping mechanisms, while deterministic scheduling of hybrid traffic is still not effectively solved since the traffic requirements are difficult to satisfy by standalone or combined mechanisms with fixed time slot divisions. This article presents a time‐aware multi‐cyclicqueuing and forwarding scheduling model, that integrates the no‐wait enabled time‐aware shaper and multi‐cyclic queuing and forwarding shaping models. Then, a scheduling solution, dubbed "TSN scheduling optimizer" (TSO) is proposed that combines optimization methods and incremental techniques. TSO aims to balance the load to maximize flow schedulability while guaranteeing the service requirements of hybrid traffic. Simulation evaluations through OMNeT++ provide a performance assessment of this proposed scheduling model, which can satisfy multiple types of traffic transmission requirements. Furthermore, TSO is compared with other baseline scheduling solutions, and TSO shows efficacy regarding execution time and schedulability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two undescribed p-terphenyl derivatives, asperterphenylcins A–B (1–2), and two undescribed diphenyl ether derivatives, asperdiphenylcins A–B (3–4), together with three previously described p-terphenyl derivatives—4″-deoxyterprenin (5), terphenyllin (6), and 3″-hydroxyterphenyllin (7)—were obtained from the solid-rice culture of the marine-derived fungus Aspergillus candidus HM5-4, which was isolated from sponges from the South China Sea. Their structures were elucidated by HRESIMS data and NMR spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 showed a strong inhibitory effect on Neoscytalidium dimidiatum, with an inhibition circle diameter of 31.67 ± 2.36 mm at a concentration of 10.0 µg/disc. Compounds 5 and 7 displayed cytotoxic activity against human chronic myeloid leukemia cells (K562), human liver cancer cells (BEL-7402), human gastric cancer cells (SGC-7901), human non-small cell lung cancer cells (A549) and human HeLa cervical cancer cells, with IC50 values ranging from 3.32 to 60.36 µM, respectively. Compounds 2, 6 and 7 showed potent inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase, with IC50 values of 1.26 ± 0.19, 2.16 ± 0.44 and 13.22 ± 0.55 µM, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
