During actual operation, a steel wire rope is deformed due to stress interaction between its internal steel wires. In this article a finite element approach is employed to simulate the interaction of steel wire under practical working conditions. In addition, according to the amount of fatigue broken wire under experimental conditions, corresponding parameters are put forward to estimate the service life of steel rope. In this article, the effect of various conditions on service life of steel wire rope is analyzed, and approaches are put forward to improve its service life. The results show that the total stress in straight strand is larger than side strand stress, while the stress increases from inside to outside while increasing from inside to outside. Cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) is a promising catalytic material for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In the traditional CoOOH structure, Co3+ exhibits a low-spin state configuration ( t 2 g 6 e g 0 ), with electron transfer occurring in face-to-face t 2 g * orbitals. In this work, we report the successful synthesis of high-spin state Co3+ CoOOH structure, by introducing coordinatively unsaturated Co atoms. As compared to the low-spin state CoOOH, electron transfer in the high-spin state CoOOH occurs in apex-to-apex e g * orbitals, which exhibits faster electron transfer ability. As a result, the high-spin state CoOOH performs superior OER activity with an overpotential of 226 mV at 10 mA cm−2, which is 148 mV lower than that of the low-spin state CoOOH. This work emphasizes the effect of the spin state of Co3+ on OER activity of CoOOH based electrocatalysts for water splitting, and thus provides a new strategy for designing highly efficient electrocatalysts. Regulating spin state of metal cations in catalysts is recognized as a strategy to improve water oxidation. Herein, the authors constructed high-spin cobalt ions in cobalt oxyhydroxides, experimentally demonstrating accelerated electron transfer ability and thereby superior water oxidation performance. A coupled oxygen evolution mechanism (COM) during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been reported in nickel oxyhydroxides (NiOOH)-based materials by realizing eg* band (3d electron states with eg symmetry) broadening and light irradiation. However, the link between the eg* band broadening extent and COM-based OER activities remains unclear. Here, Ni1-xFexOOH (x = 0, 0.05, 0,2) are prepared to investigate the underlying mechanism governing COM-based activities. It is revealed that in low potential region, realizing stronger eg* band broadening could facilitate the *OH deprotonation. Meanwhile, in high potential region where the photon utilization is the rate-determining step, a stronger eg* band broadening would widen the non-overlapping region between dz2 and a1g* orbitals, thereby enhancing photon utilization efficiency. Consequently, a stronger eg* band broadening could effectuate more efficient OER activities. Moreover, we demonstrate the universality of this concept by extending it to reconstruction-derived X-NiOOH (X = NiS2, NiSe2, Ni4P5) with varying extent of eg* band broadening. Such an understanding of the COM would provide valuable guidance for the future development of highly efficient OER electrocatalysts. The production of L2 lexical tone has proven difficult for learners of tonal languages, leading to the testing of different tone training techniques. To test the validity of these techniques, it is first necessary to capture the differences between L1 and L2 tone datasets. The current study explores three analyses designed to compare L1 and L2 tone: (1) using a single deviation score, (2) using deviation score calculations for specific regions of tone productions, and (3) applying a complexity-invariant distance measure to the two time series datasets. These three analyses were tested using datasets sampled from a previous study testing the effects of a visual feedback paradigm on the production of L2 Mandarin tone. Results suggest the first two analyses, although useful for providing an overall evaluation of how L2 speakers' pretest versus posttest productions compare to L1 speakers, lose critical information about tone, namely pitch height, contour, and the timing of the production. The third analysis, applying the complexity-invariant distance measure to the datasets, can provide the pertinent information lost from the first two analyses in a more robust manner. In the early 1960s, as part of a suite of policies intended to rectify the failures of the Great Leap Forward, the Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Culture launched new cultural policies that inaugurated a relatively liberal period for the arts in the People's Republic of China. This article explores how these new policies reconceptualized the relationship between art and politics to emphasize the importance of providing audiences with experiences of enjoyment, relaxation, and aesthetic pleasure, as well as how state-run media reporting on the newly opened Museum of Chinese Art and its inaugural exhibition embodied the aspirations of these new policies by describing and imagining visitors indulging in the beauty of the museum and the artworks on display. By examining the brief expansion of what it meant for art to serve socialism in the early 1960s, this article reveals that cultural officials experimented with multiple configurations of the relationship between art and politics during the Mao Zedong era. The burgeoning age of IoT has reinforced the need for robust time series anomaly detection. While there are hundreds of anomaly detection methods in the literature, one definition, time series discords, has emerged as a competitive and popular choice for practitioners. Time series discords are subsequences of a time series that are maximally far away from their nearest neighbors. Perhaps the most attractive feature of discords is their simplicity. Unlike many of the parameter-laden methods proposed, discords require only a single parameter to be set by the user: the subsequence length. We believe that the utility of discords is reduced by sensitivity to even this single user choice. The obvious solution to this problem, computing discords of all lengths then selecting the best anomalies (under some measure), appears at first glance to be computationally untenable. However, in this work we discuss MERLIN, a recently introduced algorithm that can efficiently and exactly find discords of all lengths in massive time series archives. By exploiting computational redundancies, MERLIN is two orders of magnitude faster than comparable algorithms. Moreover, we show that by exploiting a little-known indexing technique called Orchard's algorithm, we can create a new algorithm called MERLIN++, which is an order of magnitude faster than MERLIN, yet produces identical results. We demonstrate the utility of our ideas on a large and diverse set of experiments and show that MERLIN++ can discover subtle anomalies that defy existing algorithms or even careful human inspection. We further compare to five state-of-the-art rival methods, on the largest benchmark dataset for this task, and show that MERLIN++ is superior in terms of accuracy and speed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
