Wilsonomyces carpophilus (Lév.) is a common pathogen of stone fruit trees and produce the leaf shot hole. Blumeriella jaapii on the other hand is a pathogen just for cherry trees and produce cherry leaf spot but this disease affects also the fruits because the main symptom are small spots which cold be both on leaves and fruits. Taking from this point of view, both pathogens affect the leaves and because they could attack in the same time, they are considered to be extremely dangerous for cherry trees because the main effect on the leaves are a rapid necrosis of some large parts of the infected leaves. After that the leaves are falling to early, at the end of the end of August and beginning of September. All this long process of cherry trees leaves decay bring with it some physiological problems like reducing possibility the trees resistance to some periods of drought which may appear any time in the reference are during the summer and also of a normal preparing for winter. For what it is known for the moment, both pathogens could be stop from their development on cherry trees just by some foliar treatment but in this case, it is essential to monitor all the way in the orchard the stage of leaf infection with these pathogens. This cases the key to a high efficiency of the treatment against those pathogens. By the present paper we bring a comprehensive evaluation of this cherry tree diseases in the interest area. Of the foliar diseases of European plum, Wilsonomyces carpopilus is the most commonly occurring fungal pathogen. The aim of this two-year study was to investigate the susceptibility of 'Čačanska lepotica' plum variety to shot-hole disease (Wilsonomyces carpophilus) in two different training system with 4 x 1.5 m and 6 x 3 m tree spacings. The obtained results showed that the cultivar is susceptible to this disease and by the end of the vegetational period disease incident was above 50% in both years in both tree spacings. In 2018 disease incidence was higher in both spacing than in 2019, reaching almost 90% at the 4 x 1.5 m tree spacing plot. There were few significant differences between high and low density tree spacings. The results highlighted the importance of inoculum accumulation late in the season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shot hole disease (SHD) can cause severe epidemics in plum orchards, depending on cultivar susceptibility and training system; however, the combined effect on the progress of temporal disease and on the possible reduction in SHD in the disease management was not investigated. The aim of this 3-year study was (i) to monitor and analyze the temporal dynamics of SHD progress under four training systems (4 × 1.5, 4 × 2, 5 × 2.5 and 6 × 3 m) and on four plum cultivars ('Čačanska lepotica', 'Bluefre', 'Stanley' and 'President') in an integrated plum orchard; (ii) to identify those time periods when training system and cultivar combinations can reduce the disease development. Both SHD incidences and the area under the disease progress curves (AUDPC) were significantly affected by the training system, cultivar and year. Plum cultivars with high or mid–high susceptibility to SHD showed continuous SHD development from May to November, while cultivars with low susceptibility to SHD showed no symptoms until mid-summer and then progressed slowly until November. High (4 × 1.5 m) vs. low (6 × 3 m) density training systems reduced SHD incidence and AUDPC consistently for three cultivars ('Čačanska lepotica', 'Stanley' and 'President') in September, October and November, compared to the high-density training system. Only cv. 'Bluefre' showed no effect either on disease incidence or AUDPC, due to very high disease incidences in all training systems from September to November. In conclusions, combinations of training system and cultivar can significantly reduce SHD incidence, which may be successfully used as a part of the integrated pest management approach during the establishment new plantations.
