This paper investigates the impact of small instanton effects on the axion mass in composite axion models. In particular, we focus on the Composite Accidental Axion (CAA) models, which are designed to address the axion quality problem, and where the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry emerges accidentally. In the CAA models, the QCD gauge symmetry is embedded in a larger gauge group at high energy. These models contain small instantons not included in low-energy QCD, which could enhance the axion mass significantly. However, in the CAA models, our analysis reveals that these effects on the axion mass are non-vanishing but are negligible compared to the QCD effects. The suppression of the small instanton effects originates from the global chiral U(1) symmetries which are not broken spontaneously and play a crucial role in eliminating $\theta$-terms in the hidden sectors through anomalies. We find these U(1) symmetries restrict the impact of small instantons in hidden sectors on the axion mass. Consider the three-dimensional Navier--Stokes flow past a moving rigid body $\mathscr{O} \subset \mathbb{R}^3$ with prescribed translational and angular velocities, where $\mathscr{O}$ stands for a bounded Lipschitz domain. We prove that the solution to the linearized problem is governed by a $C_0$-semigroup on solenoidal $L^q$-vector spaces with the $L^q$-$L^r$ estimates provided that $|1/q-1/2|<1/6+\varepsilon$ with some $\varepsilon>0$, where $r \ge q$ may be taken arbitrary large. Metastable cosmic strings appear in models of new physics with a two-step symmetry breaking $G\to H\to 1$, where $\pi_1(H)\neq 0$ and $\pi_1(G)=0$. They decay via the monopole-antimonopole pair creation inside. Conventionally, the breaking rate has been estimated by an infinitely thin string approximation, which requires a large hierarchy between the symmetry breaking scales. In this paper, we reexamine it by taking into account the finite sizes of both the cosmic string and the monopole. We obtain a robust lower limit on the tunneling factor $e^{-S_B}$ even for regimes the conventional estimate is unreliable. This paper develops a unified approach to show the maximal regularity theorem of the Stokes equations with free boundary conditions in the half-space $\mathbb R^d_+$, $d \ge 2$, within the $L_1$-in-time and $\mathcal B^s_{q, 1}$-in-space framework with $(q, s)$ satisfying $1 < q < \infty$ and $- 1 + 1 / q < s < 1 / q$, where $\mathcal B^s_{q, 1}$ stands for either homogeneous or inhomogeneous Besov spaces. In particular, we establish a generalized semigroup theory within an $L_1$-in-time and $\mathcal B^s_{q,1}$-in-space framework, which extends a classical $C_0$-analytic semigroup theory to the case of inhomogeneous boundary conditions. The maximal $L_1$-regularity theorem is proved by estimating the Fourier-Laplace inverse transform of the solution to the generalized Stokes resolvent problem with inhomogeneous boundary conditions, where density and interpolation arguments are used. The maximal $L_1$-regularity theorem is applied to show the unique existence of a local strong solution to the Navier-Stokes equations with free boundary conditions for arbitrary initial data $\boldsymbol a$ in $B^s_{q, 1} (\mathbb R^d_+)^d$, where $q$ and $s$ satisfy $d-1 < q \le d$ and $-1+d/q < s < 1/q$, respectively. It is remarkable that the matter fields in the Standard Model (SM) are apparently unified into the $\mathrm{SU}(5)$ representations. A straightforward explanation of this fact is to embed all the SM gauge groups into a simple group containing $\mathrm{SU}(5)$, i.e., the grand unified theory (GUT). Recently, however, a new framework "fake GUT" has been proposed. In this new framework, the apparent matter unification can be explained by a chiral gauge group $G$, $ G \supset \mathrm{SU}(5)$. We emphasize that the SM matter fields are not necessarily embedded into the chiral representations to explain the apparent unification. In this paper, we discuss details of concrete realizations of the fake GUT model. We first study the model based on $\mathrm{SU}(5) \times \mathrm{U}(2)_H$, where $\mathrm{SU}(3)_c$ in the SM is from $\mathrm{SU}(5)$ while $\mathrm{SU}(2)_L\times \mathrm{U}(1)_Y$ are from the diagonal subgroups of $\mathrm{SU}(5) \times \mathrm{U}(2)_H$. We also extend this model to the one based on a semi-simple group, $\mathrm{SU}(5) \times \mathrm{SU}(3)_H$, so that $\mathrm{U}(2)_H$ is embedded in $\mathrm{SU}(3)_H$.
