Recently, graph prompt learning has garnered increasing attention in adapting pre-trained GNN models for downstream graph learning tasks. However, existing works generally conduct prompting over all graph elements (e.g., nodes, edges, node attributes, etc.), which is suboptimal and obviously redundant. To address this issue, we propose exploiting sparse representation theory for graph prompting and present Graph Sparse Prompting (GSP). GSP aims to adaptively and sparsely select the optimal elements (e.g., certain node attributes) to achieve compact prompting for downstream tasks. Specifically, we propose two kinds of GSP models, termed Graph Sparse Feature Prompting (GSFP) and Graph Sparse multi-Feature Prompting (GSmFP). Both GSFP and GSmFP provide a general scheme for tuning any specific pre-trained GNNs that can achieve attribute selection and compact prompt learning simultaneously. A simple yet effective algorithm has been designed for solving GSFP and GSmFP models. Experiments on 16 widely-used benchmark datasets validate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed GSFPs.

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has shown its impressive power in novel view synthesis. However, creating relightable 3D assets, especially for objects with ill-defined shapes (e.g., fur), is still a challenging task. For these scenes, the decomposition between the light, geometry, and material is more ambiguous, as neither the surface constraints nor the analytical shading model hold. To address this issue, we propose RNG, a novel representation of relightable neural Gaussians, enabling the relighting of objects with both hard surfaces or fluffy boundaries. We avoid any assumptions in the shading model but maintain feature vectors, which can be further decoded by an MLP into colors, in each Gaussian point. Following prior work, we utilize a point light to reduce the ambiguity and introduce a shadow-aware condition to the network. We additionally propose a depth refinement network to help the shadow computation under the 3DGS framework, leading to better shadow effects under point lights. Furthermore, to avoid the blurriness brought by the alpha-blending in 3DGS, we design a hybrid forward-deferred optimization strategy. As a result, we achieve about $20\times$ faster in training and about $600\times$ faster in rendering than prior work based on neural radiance fields, with $60$ frames per second on an RTX4090.

Accurately rendering the appearance of fabrics is challenging, due to their complex 3D microstructures and specialized optical properties. If we model the geometry and optics of fabrics down to the fiber level, we can achieve unprecedented rendering realism, but this raises the difficulty of authoring or capturing the fiber-level assets. Existing approaches can obtain fiber-level geometry with special devices (e.g., CT) or complex hand-designed procedural pipelines (manually tweaking a set of parameters). In this paper, we propose a unified framework to capture fiber-level geometry and appearance of woven fabrics using a single low-cost microscope image. We first use a simple neural network to predict initial parameters of our geometric and appearance models. From this starting point, we further optimize the parameters of procedural fiber geometry and an approximated shading model via differentiable rasterization to match the microscope photo more accurately. Finally, we refine the fiber appearance parameters via differentiable path tracing, converging to accurate fiber optical parameters, which are suitable for physically-based light simulations to produce high-quality rendered results. We believe that our method is the first to utilize differentiable rendering at the microscopic level, supporting physically-based scattering from explicit fiber assemblies. Our fabric parameter estimation achieves high-quality re-rendering of measured woven fabric samples in both distant and close-up views. These results can further be used for efficient rendering or converted to downstream representations. Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) have been widely studied. The core of GCNs is the definition of convolution operators on graphs. However, existing Graph Convolution (GC) operators are mainly defined on adjacency matrix and node features and generally focus on obtaining effective node embeddings which cannot be utilized to address the graphs with (high-dimensional) edge features. To address this problem, by leveraging tensor contraction representation and tensor product graph diffusion theories, this paper analogously defines an effective convolution operator on graphs with edge features which is named as Tensor Product Graph Convolution (TPGC). The proposed TPGC aims to obtain effective edge embeddings. It provides a complementary model to traditional graph convolutions (GCs) to address the more general graph data analysis with both node and edge features. Experimental results on several graph learning tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed TPGC.

In recent years, graph prompt learning/tuning has garnered increasing attention in adapting pre-trained models for graph representation learning. As a kind of universal graph prompt learning method, Graph Prompt Feature (GPF) has achieved remarkable success in adapting pre-trained models for Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). By fixing the parameters of a pre-trained GNN model, the aim of GPF is to modify the input graph data by adding some (learnable) prompt vectors into graph node features to better align with the downstream tasks on the smaller dataset. However, existing GPFs generally suffer from two main limitations. First, GPFs generally focus on node prompt learning which ignore the prompting for graph edges. Second, existing GPFs generally conduct the prompt learning on all nodes equally which fails to capture the importances of different nodes and may perform sensitively w.r.t noisy nodes in aligning with the downstream tasks. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose a new unified Graph Selective Prompt Feature learning (GSPF) for GNN fine-tuning. The proposed GSPF integrates the prompt learning on both graph node and edge together, which thus provides a unified prompt model for the graph data. Moreover, it conducts prompt learning selectively on nodes and edges by concentrating on the important nodes and edges for prompting which thus make our model be more reliable and compact. Experimental results on many benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed GSPF method.

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has shown a powerful capability for novel view synthesis due to its detailed expressive ability and highly efficient rendering speed. Unfortunately, creating relightable 3D assets with 3DGS is still problematic, particularly for reflective objects, as its discontinuous representation raises difficulties in constraining geometries. Inspired by previous works, the signed distance field (SDF) can serve as an effective way for geometry regularization. However, a direct incorporation between Gaussians and SDF significantly slows training. To this end, we propose GS-ROR for reflective objects relighting with 3DGS aided by SDF priors. At the core of our method is the mutual supervision of the depth and normal between deferred Gaussians and SDF, which avoids the expensive volume rendering of SDF. Thanks to this mutual supervision, the learned deferred Gaussians are well-constrained with a minimal time cost. As the Gaussians are rendered in a deferred shading mode, while the alpha-blended Gaussians are smooth, individual Gaussians may still be outliers, yielding floater artifacts. Therefore, we further introduce an SDF-aware pruning strategy to remove Gaussian outliers, which are located distant from the surface defined by SDF, avoiding the floater issue. Consequently, our method outperforms the existing Gaussian-based inverse rendering methods in terms of relighting quality. Our method also exhibits competitive relighting quality compared to NeRF-based methods with at most 25% of training time and allows rendering at 200+ frames per second on an RTX4090.

Measured Bidirectional Texture Function (BTF) can faithfully reproduce a realistic appearance but is costly to acquire and store due to its 6D nature (2D spatial and 4D angular). Therefore, it is practical and necessary for rendering to synthesize BTFs from a small example patch. While previous methods managed to produce plausible results, we find that they seldomly take into consideration the property of being dynamic, so a BTF must be synthesized before the rendering process, resulting in limited size, costly pre-generation and storage issues. In this paper, we propose a dynamic BTF synthesis scheme, where a BTF at any position only needs to be synthesized when being queried. Our insight is that, with the recent advances in neural dimension reduction methods, a BTF can be decomposed into disjoint low-dimensional components. We can perform dynamic synthesis only on the positional dimensions, and during rendering, recover the BTF by querying and combining these low-dimensional functions with the help of a lightweight Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). Consequently, we obtain a fully dynamic 6D BTF synthesis scheme that does not require any pre-generation, which enables efficient rendering of our infinitely large and non-repetitive BTFs on the fly. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through various types of BTFs taken from UBO2014.

Digitizing woven fabrics would be valuable for many applications, from digital humans to interior design. Previous work introduces a lightweight woven fabric acquisition approach by capturing a single reflection image and estimating the fabric parameters with a differentiable geometric and shading model. The renderings of the estimated fabric parameters can closely match the photo; however, the captured reflection image is insufficient to fully characterize the fabric sample reflectance. For instance, fabrics with different thicknesses might have similar reflection images but lead to significantly different transmission. We propose to recover the woven fabric parameters from two captured images: reflection and transmission. At the core of our method is a differentiable bidirectional scattering distribution function (BSDF) model, handling reflection and transmission, including single and multiple scattering. We propose a two-layer model, where the single scattering uses an SGGX phase function as in previous work, and multiple scattering uses a new azimuthally-invariant microflake definition, which we term ASGGX. This new fabric BSDF model closely matches real woven fabrics in both reflection and transmission. We use a simple setup for capturing reflection and transmission photos with a cell phone camera and two point lights, and estimate the fabric parameters via a lightweight network, together with a differentiable optimization. We also model the out-of-focus effects explicitly with a simple solution to match the thin-lens camera better. As a result, the renderings of the estimated parameters can agree with the input images on both reflection and transmission for the first time. Woven fabrics are widely used in applications of realistic rendering, where real-time capability is also essential. However, rendering realistic woven fabrics in real time is challenging due to their complex structure and optical appearance, which cause aliasing and noise without many samples. The core of this issue is a multi-scale representation of the fabric shading model, which allows for a fast range query. Some previous neural methods deal with the issue at the cost of training on each material, which limits their practicality. In this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network to represent different types of woven fabrics at different scales. Thanks to the regularity and repetitiveness of woven fabric patterns, our network can encode fabric patterns and parameters as a small latent vector, which is later interpreted by a small decoder, enabling the representation of different types of fabrics. By applying the pixel's footprint as input, our network achieves multi-scale representation. Moreover, our network is fast and occupies little storage because of its lightweight structure. Proximity detection in indoor environments based on WiFi signals has gained significant attention in recent years. Existing works rely on the dynamic signal reflections and their extracted features are dependent on motion strength. To address this issue, we design a robust WiFi-based proximity detector by considering gait monitoring. Specifically, we propose a gait score that accurately evaluates gait presence by leveraging the speed estimated from the autocorrelation function (ACF) of channel state information (CSI). By combining this gait score with a proximity feature, our approach effectively distinguishes different transition patterns, enabling more reliable proximity detection. In addition, to enhance the stability of the detection process, we employ a state machine and extract temporal information, ensuring continuous proximity detection even during subtle movements. Numerous roadside perception datasets have been introduced to propel advancements in autonomous driving and intelligent transportation systems research and development. However, it has been observed that the majority of their concentrates is on urban arterial roads, inadvertently overlooking residential areas such as parks and campuses that exhibit entirely distinct characteristics. In light of this gap, we propose CORP, which stands as the first public benchmark dataset tailored for multi-modal roadside perception tasks under campus scenarios. Collected in a university campus, CORP consists of over 205k images plus 102k point clouds captured from 18 cameras and 9 LiDAR sensors. These sensors with different configurations are mounted on roadside utility poles to provide diverse viewpoints within the campus region. The annotations of CORP encompass multi-dimensional information beyond 2D and 3D bounding boxes, providing extra support for 3D seamless tracking and instance segmentation with unique IDs and pixel masks for identifying targets, to enhance the understanding of objects and their behaviors distributed across the campus premises. Unlike other roadside datasets about urban traffic, CORP extends the spectrum to highlight the challenges for multi-modal perception in campuses and other residential areas.

Reconstructing objects with realistic materials from multi-view images is problematic, since it is highly ill-posed. Although the neural reconstruction approaches have exhibited impressive reconstruction ability, they are designed for objects with specific materials (e.g., diffuse or specular materials). To this end, we propose a novel framework for robust geometry and material reconstruction, where the geometry is expressed with the implicit signed distance field (SDF) encoded by a tensorial representation, namely TensoSDF. At the core of our method is the roughness-aware incorporation of the radiance and reflectance fields, which enables a robust reconstruction of objects with arbitrary reflective materials. Furthermore, the tensorial representation enhances geometry details in the reconstructed surface and reduces the training time. Finally, we estimate the materials using an explicit mesh for efficient intersection computation and an implicit SDF for accurate representation. Consequently, our method can achieve more robust geometry reconstruction, outperform the previous works in terms of relighting quality, and reduce 50% training times and 70% inference time., Comment: Accepted by SIGGRAPH 2024

Achieving accurate human identification through RF imaging has been a persistent challenge, primarily attributed to the limited aperture size and its consequent impact on imaging resolution. The existing imaging solution enables tasks such as pose estimation, activity recognition, and human tracking based on deep neural networks by estimating skeleton joints. In contrast to estimating joints, this paper proposes to improve imaging resolution by estimating the human figure as a whole using conditional generative adversarial networks (cGAN). In order to reduce training complexity, we use an estimated spatial spectrum using the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm as input to the cGAN. Our system generates environmentally independent, high-resolution images that can extract unique physical features useful for human identification. We use a simple convolution layers-based classification network to obtain the final identification result. From the experimental results, we show that resolution of the image produced by our trained generator is high enough to enable human identification. Our finding indicates high-resolution accuracy with 5% mean silhouette difference to the Kinect device. Wet powdered materials, such as wet ground or moist walls, are common in the real world. Despite their particle size being larger than the wavelength, they remain invisible from a macro view. Reproducing these appearances accurately is crucial for various applications. Existing methods use different approaches, such as Monte Carlo path tracing on implicit shapes, which is accurate but computationally expensive. Another approach involves modeling powdered materials with a medium using the radiative transfer equation, but these methods are computationally intensive and lack intuitive parameters. Some works represent porosity with cylinder-shaped holes on surfaces, but they have limitations. In this paper, we propose a practical BSDF model called WetSpongeCake for wet powdered materials. This model includes controllable physical parameters to faithfully reproduce real-world appearances while remaining computationally efficient. We reformulate Monte Carlo light transport on implicit shapes into a medium, utilizing an equivalent phase function for light transport within ellipsoid-shaped particles and a modified RTE for porosity and saturation effects. Our novel WetSpongeCake BSDF integrates this medium into the SpongeCake framework, allowing representation of various wet powdered material appearances, including both reflection and transmission. We showcase our model with examples, such as wet paper, sand saturated with different liquids, and sculptures made of multiple particles.

Edge Intelligence (EI) integrates Edge Computing (EC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to push the capabilities of AI to the network edge for real-time, efficient and secure intelligent decision-making and computation. However, EI faces various challenges due to resource constraints, heterogeneous network environments, and diverse service requirements of different applications, which together affect the trustworthiness of EI in the eyes of stakeholders. This survey comprehensively summarizes the characteristics, architecture, technologies, and solutions of trustworthy EI. Specifically, we first emphasize the need for trustworthy EI in the context of the trend toward large models. We then provide an initial definition of trustworthy EI, explore its key characteristics and give a multi-layered architecture for trustworthy EI. Then, we summarize several important issues that hinder the achievement of trustworthy EI. Subsequently, we present enabling technologies for trustworthy EI systems and provide an in-depth literature review of the state-of-the-art solutions for realizing the trustworthiness of EI. In multimodal perception systems, achieving precise extrinsic calibration between LiDAR and camera is of critical importance. Previous calibration methods often required specific targets or manual adjustments, making them both labor-intensive and costly. Online calibration methods based on features have been proposed, but these methods encounter challenges such as imprecise feature extraction, unreliable cross-modality associations, and high scene-specific requirements. To address this, we introduce an edge-based approach for automatic online calibration of LiDAR and cameras in real-world scenarios. The edge features, which are prevalent in various environments, are aligned in both images and point clouds to determine the extrinsic parameters. Specifically, stable and robust image edge features are extracted using a SAM-based method and the edge features extracted from the point cloud are weighted through a multi-frame weighting strategy for feature filtering. Finally, accurate extrinsic parameters are optimized based on edge correspondence constraints. We conducted evaluations on both the KITTI dataset and our dataset. The results show a state-of-the-art rotation accuracy of 0.086{\deg} and a translation accuracy of 0.977 cm, outperforming existing edge-based calibration methods in both precision and robustness.

It is time-consuming to render high-resolution images in applications such as video games and virtual reality, and thus super-resolution technologies become increasingly popular for real-time rendering. However, it is challenging to preserve sharp texture details, keep the temporal stability and avoid the ghosting artifacts in real-time super-resolution rendering. To address this issue, we introduce radiance demodulation to separate the rendered image or radiance into a lighting component and a material component, considering the fact that the light component is smoother than the rendered image so that the high-resolution material component with detailed textures can be easily obtained. We perform the super-resolution on the lighting component only and re-modulate it with the high-resolution material component to obtain the final super-resolution image with more texture details. A reliable warping module is proposed by explicitly marking the occluded regions to avoid the ghosting artifacts. To further enhance the temporal stability, we design a frame-recurrent neural network and a temporal loss to aggregate the previous and current frames, which can better capture the spatial-temporal consistency among reconstructed frames. As a result, our method is able to produce temporally stable results in real-time rendering with high-quality details, even in the challenging 4 $\times$ 4 super-resolution scenarios., Comment: Accepted by CVPR 2024

Smith microfacet models are widely used in computer graphics to represent materials. Traditional microfacet models do not consider the multiple bounces on microgeometries, leading to visible energy missing, especially on rough surfaces. Later, as the equivalence between the microfacets and volume has been revealed, random walk solutions have been proposed to introduce multiple bounces, but at the cost of high variance. Recently, the position-free property has been introduced into the multiple-bounce model, resulting in much less noise, but also bias or a complex derivation. In this paper, we propose a simple way to derive the multiple-bounce Smith microfacet bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs) using the invariance principle. At the core of our model is a shadowing-masking function for a path consisting of direction collections, rather than separated bounces. Our model ensures unbiasedness and can produce less noise compared to the previous work with equal time, thanks to the simple formulation. Furthermore, we also propose a novel probability density function (PDF) for BRDF multiple importance sampling, which has a better match with the multiple-bounce BRDFs, producing less noise than previous naive approximations.

Parametric Bidirectional Scattering Distribution Functions (BSDFs) are pervasively used because of their flexibility to represent a large variety of material appearances by simply tuning the parameters. While efficient evaluation of parametric BSDFs has been well-studied, high-quality importance sampling techniques for parametric BSDFs are still scarce. Existing sampling strategies either heavily rely on approximations, resulting in high variance, or solely perform sampling on a portion of the whole BSDF slice. Moreover, many of the sampling approaches are specifically paired with certain types of BSDFs. In this paper, we seek an efficient and general way for importance sampling parametric BSDFs. We notice that the nature of importance sampling is the mapping between a uniform distribution and the target distribution. Specifically, when BSDF parameters are given, the mapping that performs importance sampling on a BSDF slice can be simply recorded as a 2D image that we name as importance map. Following this observation, we accurately precompute the importance maps using a mathematical tool named optimal transport. Then we propose a lightweight neural network to efficiently compress the precomputed importance maps. In this way, we have brought parametric BSDF important sampling to the precomputation stage, avoiding heavy runtime computation. Since this process is similar to light baking where a set of images are precomputed, we name our method importance baking. Together with a BSDF evaluation network and a PDF (probability density function) query network, our method enables full multiple importance sampling (MIS) without any revision to the rendering pipeline. Our method essentially performs perfect importance sampling. Compared with previous methods, we demonstrate reduced noise levels on rendering results with a rich set of appearances.

Graph Attention Networks (GATs) have been intensively studied and widely used in graph data learning tasks. Existing GATs generally adopt the self-attention mechanism to conduct graph edge attention learning, requiring expensive computation. It is known that Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) can perform inexpensive computation by transmitting the input signal data into discrete spike trains and can also return sparse outputs. Inspired by the merits of SNNs, in this work, we propose a novel Graph Spiking Attention Network (GSAT) for graph data representation and learning. In contrast to self-attention mechanism in existing GATs, the proposed GSAT adopts a SNN module architecture which is obvious energy-efficient. Moreover, GSAT can return sparse attention coefficients in natural and thus can perform feature aggregation on the selective neighbors which makes GSAT perform robustly w.r.t graph edge noises. Experimental results on several datasets demonstrate the effectiveness, energy efficiency and robustness of the proposed GSAT model.

Speech enhancement and separation have been a long-standing problem, especially with the recent advances using a single microphone. Although microphones perform well in constrained settings, their performance for speech separation decreases in noisy conditions. In this work, we propose RadioSES, an audioradio speech enhancement and separation system that overcomes inherent problems in audio-only systems. By fusing a complementary radio modality, RadioSES can estimate the number of speakers, solve source association problem, separate and enhance noisy mixture speeches, and improve both intelligibility and perceptual quality. We perform millimeter-wave sensing to detect and localize speakers, and introduce an audioradio deep learning framework to fuse the separate radio features with the mixed audio features. Extensive experiments using commercial off-the-shelf devices show that RadioSES outperforms a variety of state-of-the-art baselines, with consistent performance gains in different environmental settings. Compared with the audiovisual methods, RadioSES provides similar improvements (e.g., ~3 dB gains in SiSDR), along with the benefits of lower computational complexity and being less privacy concerning., Comment: Project webpage: https://zahidozt.github.io/RadioSES/
