The specific activity of the β decay of 39 Ar in atmospheric argon is measured using the DEAP-3600 detector. DEAP-3600, located 2 km underground at SNOLAB, uses a total of (3269 ± 24) kg of liquid argon distilled from the atmosphere to search for dark matter. This detector is well-suited to measure the decay of 39 Ar owing to its very low background levels. This is achieved in two ways: it uses low background construction materials; and it uses pulse-shape discrimination to differentiate between nuclear recoils and electron recoils. With 167 live-days of data, the measured specific activity at the time of atmospheric extraction is (0.964 ± 0.001 stat ± 0.024 sys ) Bq/kg atmAr , which is consistent with results from other experiments. Hemoglobin S is caused by a nucleotide change in HBB gene (HBB:c.20A>T, p.Glu6Val), is presented in diverse forms: simple carriers (HbSA), homozygotes (HbSS) also known as sickle cell anemia, and compound heterozygotes with other β-hemoglobinopathies. It is worldwide distributed, in Mexico, is frequently observed in the southern states Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas. Elevated fetal hemoglobin (HbF) is associated with mild phenotype; single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) in modifier genes, such as BCL11A, HBG2, HBBP1 pseudogene and HBS1L-MYB intergenic region, upregulate HbF synthesis. The aim of this study was to identify HbF regulating genetic variants in HbSS and HbSA Mexican subjects. We studied 39 individuals (HbSS = 24, 61%, HbSA = 15, 39%) from Chiapas (67%) and Guerrero (33%), peripheral blood was collected in ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) for molecular and hematological studies, DNA was isolated by salting-out technic and genotyping was performed through allelic discrimination by real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) using Taqman® probes for 15 SNV (in BCL11A: rs6706648, rs7557939, rs4671393, rs11886868, rs766432, rs7599488, rs1427407; HBS1L-MYB: rs28384513, rs7776054, rs9399137, rs4895441, rs9402686, rs1320963; HBG2: rs7482144; and HBBP1: rs10128556). The obtained data were analyzed using IMB SPSS v.22.0 software. All minor alleles were observed in frequencies over 0.05, the most frequent was rs9402686 (0.82), while the less frequent was rs101028556 (0.08). In HbSS group, the mean fetal hemoglobin was 11.9 ± 5.9% and was significantly elevated in BCL11A rs11886868 wildtype homozygotes and in carriers of HBS1L-MYB intergenic region rs7776054 (p = 0.04 and p = 0.03, respectively). In conclusion, in HbSS Mexican patients, two SNVs were observed related to increased HbF; BCL11A rs11886868 and HBS1L-MYB rs7776054. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous synthesizes astaxanthin, a high-value carotenoid with biotechnological relevance in the nutraceutical and aquaculture industries. However, enhancing carotenoid production through strain engineering remains an ongoing challenge. Recent studies have demonstrated that carotenogenesis in X. dendrorhous is regulated by the SREBP pathway, which includes the transcription factor Sre1, particularly in the mevalonate pathway that also produces precursors used for ergosterol synthesis. In this study, we explored a novel approach to enhance carotenoid synthesis by replacing the native crtE promoter, which drives geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthesis (the step where carotenogenesis diverges from ergosterol biosynthesis), with the promoter of the HMGS gene, which encodes 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase from the mevalonate pathway. The impact of this substitution was evaluated in two mutant strains that already overproduce carotenoids due to the presence of an active Sre1 transcription factor: CBS.cyp61-, which does not produce ergosterol and strain CBS.SRE1N.FLAG, which constitutively expresses the active form of Sre1. Wild-type strain CBS6938 was used as a control. Our results showed that this modification increased the crtE transcript levels more than threefold and fourfold in CBS.cyp61 - .pHMGS/crtE and CBS.SRE1N.FLAG.pHMGS/crtE, respectively, resulting in 1.43-fold and 1.22-fold increases in carotenoid production. In contrast, this modification did not produce significant changes in the wild-type strain, which lacks the active Sre1 transcription factor under the same culture conditions. This study highlights the potential of promoter substitution strategies involving genes regulated by Sre1 to enhance carotenoid production, specifically in strains where the SREBP pathway is activated, offering a promising avenue for strain improvement in industrial applications., (© 2024. Migrants and refugees face elevated risks for mental health problems but have limited access to services. This study compared two strategies for training and supervising nonspecialists to deliver a scalable psychological intervention, Group Problem Management Plus (gPM+), in northern Colombia. Adult women who reported elevated psychological distress and functional impairment were randomized to receive gPM+ delivered by nonspecialists who received training and supervision by: 1) a psychologist ( specialized technical support ); or 2) a nonspecialist who had been trained as a trainer/supervisor ( nonspecialized technical support ). We examined effectiveness and implementation outcomes using a mixed-methods approach. Thirteen nonspecialists were trained as gPM+ facilitators and three were trained-as-trainers. We enrolled 128 women to participate in gPM+ across the two conditions. Intervention attendance was higher in the specialized technical support condition. The nonspecialized technical support condition demonstrated higher fidelity to gPM+ and lower cost of implementation. Other indicators of effectiveness, adoption and implementation were comparable between the two implementation strategies. These results suggest it is feasible to implement mental health interventions, like gPM+, using lower-resource, community-embedded task sharing models, while maintaining safety and fidelity. The sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) pathway is an integral cellular mechanism that regulates lipid homeostasis, in which transcriptional activator SREBPs regulate the expression of various genes. In the carotenogenic yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous , Sre1 (the yeast SREBP homolog) regulates lipid biosynthesis and carotenogenesis, among other processes. Despite the characterization of several components of the SREBP pathway across various eukaryotes, the specific elements of this pathway in X. dendrorhous remain largely unknown. This study aimed to explore the potential regulatory mechanisms of the SREBP pathway in X. dendrorhous using the strain CBS. cyp61 - as a model, which is known to have Sre1 in its active state under standard culture conditions, resulting in a carotenoid-overproducing phenotype. This strain was subjected to random mutagenesis with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NTG), followed by a screening methodology that focused on identifying mutants with altered Sre1 activation phenotypes. Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis of 20 selected mutants detected 5439 single-nucleotide variants (SNVs), narrowing them down to 1327 SNPs of interest after a series of filters. Classification based on SNP impact identified 116 candidate genes, including 49 genes with high impact and 68 genes with deleterious moderate-impact mutations. BLAST, InterProScan, and gene ontology enrichment analyses highlighted 25 genes as potential participants in regulating Sre1 in X. dendrorhous . The key findings of this study include the identification of genes potentially encoding proteins involved in protein import/export to the nucleus, sterol biosynthesis, the ubiquitin-proteasome system, protein regulatory activities such as deacetylases, a subset of kinases and proteases, as well as transcription factors that could be influential in SREBP regulation. These findings are expected to significantly contribute to the current understanding of the intricate regulation of the transcription factor Sre1 in X. dendrorhous , providing valuable groundwork for future research and potential biotechnological applications.

Colombia hosts the largest number of refugees and migrants fleeing the humanitarian emergency in Venezuela, many of whom experience high levels of displacement-related trauma and adversity. Yet, Colombian mental health services do not meet the needs of this population. Scalable, task-sharing interventions, such as Group Problem Management Plus (Group PM+), have the potential to bridge this gap by utilizing lay workers to provide the intervention. However, the current literature lacks a comprehensive understanding of how and for whom Group PM+ is most effective. This mixed methods study utilized data from a randomized effectiveness-implementation trial to examine the mediators and moderators of Group PM+ on mental health outcomes. One hundred twenty-eight migrant and refugee women in northern Colombia participated in Group PM+ delivered by trained community members. Patterns in moderation effects showed that participants in more stable, less marginalized positions improved the most. Results from linear regression models showed that Group PM+-related skill acquisition was not a significant mediator of the association between session attendance and mental health outcomes. Participants and facilitators reported additional possible mediators and community-level moderators that warrant future research. Claudins are a family of 27 proteins that have an important role in the formation of tight junctions. They also have an important function in ion exchange, cell mobility, and the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, the latter being very important in cancer invasion and metastasis. Therapeutic targeting of claudins has been investigated to improve cancer outcomes. Recent evidence shows improved outcomes when combining monoclonal antibodies against claudin 18.2 with chemotherapy for patients with gastroesophageal junction cancer. Currently, chimeric antigen receptor T-cells targeting claudin 18 are under investigation. In this review, we will discuss the major functions of claudins, their distribution in the normal as well as cancerous tissues, and their effect in cancer metastasis, with a special focus on the therapeutic targeting of claudins to improve cancer outcomes.

Bacteremia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer and episodes of high-risk febrile neutropenia (HRFN)., Objective: To identify the frequency of microorganisms isolated from blood cultures (BC) and their antimicrobial resistance (R) profile in children with HRFN, compared with the same data from previous studies of the same group., Method: Prospective, multicenter, epidemiological surveillance study of microorganisms isolated from BC in patients under 18 years of age, from 7 PINDA network hospitals, between 2016 and 2021., Results: 284 episodes of HRFN with positive BC were analyzed out of 1091 enrolled episodes (26%). Median age 7.2 years [3.0-12.3]. The main isolates were gram-negative bacilli (GNB) 49.2%, gram-positive cocci (GPC) 43.8%, and fungi 3.6%. The most frequently isolated microorganisms were viridans group Streptococci (VGS) (25.8%), Escherichia coli (19.8%), Pseudomonas spp. (11.2%), Klebsiella spp. (10.9%), and coagulase negative Staphylococci (CoNS) (10.9%). There was an increase in R to third-generation cephalosporins (p = 0.011) in GNB and to oxacillin in CoNS (p = 0.00), as well as a decrease in R to amikacin in non-fermenting GNB (p = 0.02) and to penicillin in VGS (p = 0.04)., Conclusion: VGS is the main agent isolated in BC from pediatric patients with cancer and episodes of HRFN, followed by E. coli, Pseudomonas spp., and Klebsiella spp. Having epidemiological surveillance of microorganisms isolated from BC and their antimicrobial R profile is essential to favor the rational use of antimicrobials.

Using data from 15 countries, this article investigates whether descriptive and prescriptive gender norms concerning housework and child care (domestic work) changed after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results of a total of 8,343 participants ( M = 19.95, SD = 1.68) from two comparable student samples suggest that descriptive norms about unpaid domestic work have been affected by the pandemic, with individuals seeing mothers' relative to fathers' share of housework and child care as even larger. Moderation analyses revealed that the effect of the pandemic on descriptive norms about child care decreased with countries' increasing levels of gender equality; countries with stronger gender inequality showed a larger difference between pre- and post-pandemic. Objective: Although national asthma guidelines recommend use of validated questionnaires to improve asthma care, little is known about the extent to which these questionnaires are patient-centered. This qualitative study evaluated parent perceptions of a validated asthma questionnaire., Methods: We administered the Pediatric Asthma Control and Communication Instrument for the Emergency Department (PACCI-ED) to parents of children 2 to 17 years old presenting to a large urban pediatric ED for asthma care and assessed their perceptions of the tool's utility and acceptability via a structured interview. Responses were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using a phenomenological approach., Results: Eighty-three parents participated. Qualitative analysis revealed 2 major themes (with 5 subthemes). The first major theme (and 3 subthemes) was that the PACCI-ED facilitated communication with the health care team and caregivers: improving communication 1) with ED providers, 2) in other settings such as schools, and 3) in the primary care setting where the relationship with primary care providers was felt to be variable. The second major theme (and 2 subthemes) was that the PACCI-ED increased parents' capacity to manage their child's asthma: by helping parents understand 1) what symptoms were related to asthma and 2) how those symptoms might change over time., Conclusions: Parents perceive that the PACCI-ED is acceptable and useful for facilitating communication in the ED and other health care settings, and for building parent capacity to track and manage their child's asthma. The evaluation of data regarding rehabilitation practices provides reference values for comparison purposes among different rehabilitation centers to critically review protocols and efficiently improve each center. The aim of the present work was to present the main causes of admission to Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center for each taxonomic group, to determine the admission factors that influenced the release and mortality, and to determine the predictive factors of release and mortality of wildlife. To this end, a retrospective study was carried out based on 5785 admissions registered in the database of Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center in Costa Rica in 2020 and 2021. Statistical analysis consisted of sample characterization via the analysis of several categorical variables: species, order, class, age group, cause of admission, outcome, clinical classification and days in the hospital, and respective association with the mortality or release rate. Most of the rescue animals were birds (59.3%), then mammals (20.7%), reptiles (17.4%), and finally 'others' (2.6%). The main causes of admission were 'captivity' (34.9%), 'found' (23.3%), and 'trauma' (19.3%). Animals rescued due to 'captivity' and the classes 'birds' and 'reptiles' had the highest release rates. The causes of admission 'trauma' and 'orphanhood' and the class 'birds' had the highest mortality rates. In general, a greater number of days spent in the hospital and membership in the classes 'reptiles', 'juveniles', in need of 'basic care', or 'clinically healthy' were predictors of survival. In contrast, the age groups 'infant' and 'nestling' were predictors of mortality. These results demonstrate the value of maintaining, improving, and studying databases from wildlife rehabilitation centers, as they can provide useful information that can be used to enhance the allocation of economic resources, treatment methods, disease surveillance, public education, and regulatory decision-making, leading to a better understanding of threats to wildlife and subsequent implementation of conservation actions.

Background: Longitudinal cohort data of patients with tuberculosis (TB) and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are lacking. In our global study, we describe long-term outcomes of patients affected by TB and COVID-19., Methods: We collected data from 174 centres in 31 countries on all patients affected by COVID-19 and TB between 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2022. Patients were followed-up until cure, death or end of cohort time. All patients had TB and COVID-19; for analysis purposes, deaths were attributed to TB, COVID-19 or both. Survival analysis was performed using Cox proportional risk-regression models, and the log-rank test was used to compare survival and mortality attributed to TB, COVID-19 or both., Results: Overall, 788 patients with COVID-19 and TB (active or sequelae) were recruited from 31 countries, and 10.8% (n=85) died during the observation period. Survival was significantly lower among patients whose death was attributed to TB and COVID-19 versus those dying because of either TB or COVID-19 alone (p<0.001). Significant adjusted risk factors for TB mortality were higher age (hazard ratio (HR) 1.05, 95% CI 1.03-1.07), HIV infection (HR 2.29, 95% CI 1.02-5.16) and invasive ventilation (HR 4.28, 95% CI 2.34-7.83). For COVID-19 mortality, the adjusted risks were higher age (HR 1.03, 95% CI 1.02-1.04), male sex (HR 2.21, 95% CI 1.24-3.91), oxygen requirement (HR 7.93, 95% CI 3.44-18.26) and invasive ventilation (HR 2.19, 95% CI 1.36-3.53)., Conclusions: In our global cohort, death was the outcome in >10% of patients with TB and COVID-19. Abstract: Valdes, O, Inzulza, S, Collao, N, Garcia-Vicencio, S, Tufano, JJ, Earp, J, Venegas, M, and Peñailillo, L. Eccentric cycling is an alternative to Nordic hamstring exercise to increase the neuromuscular function of knee flexors in untrained men. J Strength Cond Res 37(11): 2158-2166, 2023-Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) has been proposed to reduce knee flexor (KF) injuries. However, submaximal alternatives to NHE are necessary for the clinical or weaker population. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of Nordic hamstring training (NHT) and eccentric cycling (ECC) training on the neuromuscular function of the KF. Twenty healthy men (27.7 ± 3.5 years) were randomly assigned into 2 groups that performed 10 training sessions (2-3 sessions·week-1) of either NHT (n = 10) or ECC (n = 10). Maximal voluntary isometric contraction of the KF and knee extensor (KE) muscles (MVICKF and MVICKE) was measured, and the hamstring/quadriceps strength (H/Q) ratio was calculated. Furthermore, changes in NHE maximum reaction force (NHE-MRFKF), NHE break-point angle (NHE-BPA), and muscle activity of the semitendinosus (STEMG) and biceps femoris (BFEMG) during the NHE after the interventions were compared. Although no group × time effects were observed (p = 0.09-0.70), but time effects were found for all variables. Pairwise comparisons revealed that MVICKF (+16.9%; p = 0.02), H/Q ratio (+11.8%; p = 0.01), NHE-MRFKF (+19.8%; p = 0.005), and NHE-BPA (+30.8%; p = 0.001) increased after ECC, whereas NHE-MRFKF (+9.7%; p = 0.003), NHE-BPA (+35.5%; p = 0.0002), and STEMG (+33.7%; p = 0.02) increased after NHT. A group × time effect was observed (p = 0.003) in BFEMG, revealing an increase only after ECC (+41.1%; p < 0.0001). Similar neuromuscular adaptations were found after both training modalities. Caregiver involvement may facilitate patient participation in occupational therapy (OT) video telehealth. However, little is known about the extent to which caregivers participate and what they do. This scoping review aims to, 1) describe the caregiver role supporting patient participation in OT video telehealth, and, 2) identify barriers and facilitators to caregiver involvement. Findings reveal caregiver involvement in a range of OT evaluation and intervention processes, with details on what caregivers did overall lacking. Barriers and facilitators are also described. Azathioprine (AZA) and 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) are drugs widely used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Among the enzymes involved in the metabolism of AZA and 6-MP are thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) and nudix hydrolase 15 (NUDT15). The existence of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the genes that code for these enzymes could decreased enzymatic activity AND lead to severe myelosuppression. The most relevant polymorphism is NUDT15*3 (rs116855232), where the replacement of cytosine for thymine at position 415, which in turn leads to a loss of enzymatic activity. In a previous study, it was identified that together the polymorphisms in the TPMT gene reach an allelic frequency of 3.81%. There is no information regarding the rs116855232 polymorphism in the NUDT15 gene, so this corresponds to the objective of this report. Blood samples from Chilean adult patients with indications for the use of AZA or 6-MP for different pathologies and who had undergone a TPMT gene polymorphism study were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 253 blood samples were analyzed. Of the 253 patients, 47 presented the c.415C>T polymorphism in the NUDT15 gene, 3 being homozygous and 44 heterozygous. Four of the heterozygous patients for NUDT15 also had the *3A variant in the TPMT gene, also heterozygous. The allelic frequency of the minor T allele found (9.88%) was very similar to that found in patients of Asian origin, and much higher than that reported for the European Caucasian or Latin American population., (Copyright © 2023 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. School coexistence processes are mediated by conflict situations that are often not adequately, immediately and comprehensively resolved by schools, giving rise to violence. School violence has become a matter of global priority not only at the school or family level, but also socially due to its magnitude and scope. In the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), reported in 2018 that 23% of students in Mexico had suffered bullying at least once a month, these data are worrying as they reveal high rate of violence. Considering the increase of violence in Mexican educational institutions, we wonder if students' awareness in the use of communication to resolve disagreements would be achieved after participating in a conflict prevention project applying restorative practices. The objective of this study was to test whether students acquired greater emotional self-regulation, self-determination, and peaceful strategies to resolve conflicts after participating in a project centred on the restorative paradigm. A total of 336 students from an elementary school and a high school located in Mexico participated in this study. An ad hoc questionnaire was administered to the students by a restorative justice specialist in the middle of the school year. Statistical analyses were performed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences V. 25. The results obtained showed that, after the implementation of this program for five months, students in both schools showed greater emotional self-regulation and self-determination. Background: People with chronic diseases in their advanced phase require palliative care. This is essential to ensure their quality of life as it ends. However, a very low percentage of patients receive the necessary palliative care. The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the planning and provision of palliative care. Despite this, in Chile, palliative care coverage was extended by law to cover nononcological chronic diseases. Implementation of this law is expected to be a significant challenge in terms of material resources, as well as the need for the formation of specialized palliative care teams. Therefore, it is essential to estimate the need for palliative care for all chronic diseases to generate useful input for planning and decision-making in public health., Objectives: To indirectly estimate the need for palliative care among people with Chronic Oncological Diseases (COD) and Chronic Non-Oncological Diseases (CNOD) during the prepandemic and pandemic context due to COVID-19 in the Biobío Region in Chile., Methods: Cross-sectional study based on mortality data from chronic oncological and nononcological diseases during the prepandemic (2010-2018) and pandemic (2020-2021) contexts due to COVID-19 in a Region of Chile through indirect estimation using minimal estimate, standardized mortality rates and geographically weighted regression., Results: It was estimated that 76.25% of deaths from chronic diseases in the Biobío Region would have required palliative care, which represents 77,618 people who should have been included in these health benefits. The pandemic had a significant effect on the average number of deaths from CNOD. People belonging to this group were more likely to die from COVID-19 than from their baseline disease, unlike the deaths of people from COD, where no significant changes were observed., Conclusion: These estimates highlight the potential size of the population requiring palliative care and emphasize the importance of recognizing the rights of individuals with COD and CNOD conditions. It is evident that there is a significant demand for palliative care services, as well as a pressing need for adequate resources, effective management, and strategic planning to cater to the needs of this population. Objectives: To conduct cost-utility and budget impact analysis of providing Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy versus no treatment for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in Colombia from a third-party payer perspective., Methods: We used a Markov model to assess the cost-utility and budget impact analysis of CPAP in patients over 40 years old with moderate to severe OSA. Data on effectiveness and utility values were obtained from published literature. A discount rate of 5% was applied for outcomes and costs. ICER was calculated and compared against the threshold estimated for Colombia, which is 86% of the GDP per capita., Results: Over a lifetime horizon, the base case analysis showed the incremental cost per quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained with CPAP therapy was COP$3,503,804 (USD$1,011 in 2020 prices). The budget impact analysis showed that the adoption of CPAP therapy in the target population would lead to a cumulative net budget impact of COP$411,722 million (USD$118,784,412 in, 2020 prices) over five years of time horizon., Conclusions: CPAP was cost-effective compared to no-treatment in OSA. According to the budget impact analysis, adopting this technology would require a budget allocation that is partially offset by reduced number of strokes and traffic accident events.

Psittacanthus calyculatus is a hemiparasite mistletoe that represents an ecological problem due to the impacts caused to various tree species of ecological and commercial interest. Although the life cycle for the Psittacanthus genus is well established in the literature, the development stages and molecular mechanism implicated in P. calyculatus host infection are poorly understood. In this study, we used a manageable infestation of P. laevigata with P. calyculatus to clearly trace the infection, which allowed us to describe five phenological infective stages of mistletoe on host tree branches: mature seed (T1), holdfast formation (T2), haustorium activation (T3), haustorium penetration (T4), and haustorium connection (T5) with the host tree. Proteomic analyses revealed proteins with a different accumulation and cellular processes in infective stages. Activities of the cell wall-degrading enzymes cellulase and β-1,4-glucosidase were primarily active in haustorium development (T3), while xylanase, endo-glucanase, and peptidase were highly active in the haustorium penetration (T4) and xylem connection (T5). Patterns of auxins and cytokinin showed spatial concentrations in infective stages and moreover were involved in haustorium development. These results are the first evidence of proteins, cell wall-degrading enzymes, and phytohormones that are involved in early infection for the Psittacanthus genus, and thus represent a general infection mechanism for other mistletoe species. These results could help to understand the molecular dialogue in the establishment of P. calyculatus parasitism.

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic prompted families to receive Early Head Start (EHS) home-based services virtually. This qualitative study evaluated parental perceptions of EHS tele-home visits., Methods: EHS parents who had transitioned to tele-home visits using any video-chat platform were recruited to participate in a Spanish or English virtual focus group that assessed their perceptions of tele-home visits. Using an iterative, consensus-seeking inductive content analysis approach, themes and subthemes were identified., Results: Thirty-five mothers of children newborn to 3-years-old, where the majority were Latino and Spanish-speaking, participated in four focus groups. Several patterns pertaining to technology, child engagement, child learning and development, and parent-home visitor relationship emerged in the qualitative analysis. Mothers revealed varying degrees of digital proficiency, device preference, and technology challenges. Mothers reported variability in child engagement and concerns with missed socialization opportunities for children as a results of tele-home visits, but also reported increased self-efficacy in supporting child development, positive relationships with their home visitor, and overall satisfaction with services., Conclusion: Parents revealed tele-home visits have the potential to be a viable service delivery method for EHS home-based programs. While parents perceived increased engagement and an uncompromised parent-home visitor relationship, they revealed areas of needed support that would optimize the use of tele-home visits., (© 2022. The objective of this research was to examine the mediating role that organizational dehumanization plays between authentic leadership and job satisfaction. The study was carried out with a sample of 422 participants, 50.7% were men and 49.3% women, with an average age of 38.96 years. The workers belong to different public and private organizations in Chile, and they responded to instruments of sociodemographic characterization, employment history and the scales of organizational dehumanization, authentic leadership, and job satisfaction. Data analysis included descriptive, correlational, and mediation analyses. The results allow us to maintain the hypothesis that organizational dehumanization plays a mediator role in the relationship between authentic leadership and job satisfaction. The objective of this study is to validate Caesens, Stinglhamber, and Demoulin's (2017) organizational dehumanization scale (ODS) in a Spanish-speaking sample. A sample of 422 employees (49.3% women and 50.7% men) from Chile answered an online questionnaire comprised of measures of organizational dehumanization and job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behaviors, and authentic leadership. To analyze the structure of the ODS, the sample was divided into two random subsamples and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out. In addition, reliability and criterion validity were tested. As a result, the scale was composed of one factor. One item was eliminated due to its factor loading. The internal consistency was good (α = 0.92; ω = 0.92). The correlations between ODS, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behaviors, and authentic leadership were statistically significant, from medium to high magnitude, indicating a reasonable degree of criterion validity. In conclusion, the Spanish version of the ODS shows adequate psychometric properties and can be useful for making progress on the understanding of organizational dehumanization and evaluating the organizational dehumanization in Spanish-speaking context.

HIV infection is a global epidemic, with a prevalence of 0.8%. In Latin America, Chile, Brazil and Uruguay are the countries with the highest rates. The transgender population is the most affected (OR of 48.8 compared to the general population). Multiple bio-psycho-social factors explain these issues. The low use of condoms for pressure from the partner, the idea of reaffirmation of gender, the fear to be replaced by a cisgender person, the presence of commercial sex, among others, influence the highest rates of infection. HIV prevention measures have been implemented, but few specifically targeted at transgender people. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PreP) seems to be a new prevention alternative in this group, and the integration of support units in gender reaffirmation with units that deliver PreP could increase their adherence and coverage. In HIV (+) transgender people there is low adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), in part due to the prioritization of hormonal treatment and the fear that ART will alter their hormonalization process. The few data that exist show that hormonalization is not affected by ART, but that some hormonal treatments could lower the levels of certain antiretrovirals. More studies must be done to evaluate the interaction between antiretrovirals and gender affirming hormone therapy.

Cytochrome P450s (P450s) are heme-containing proteins involved in several cellular functions, including biosynthesis of steroidal hormones, detoxification of xenobiotic compounds, among others. Damage response protein 1 (Dap1) has been described as a positive regulator of P450s through protein-protein interactions in organisms such as Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Three P450s in the carotenogenic yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous have thus far been characterized: Cyp51 and Cyp61, which are involved in ergosterol biosynthesis, and CrtS (astaxanthin synthase), which is involved in biosynthesis of the carotenoid astaxanthin. In this work, we describe the X. dendrorhous DAP1 gene, deletion of which affected yeast pigmentation by decreasing the astaxanthin fraction and increasing the β-carotene (a substrate of CrtS) fraction, which is consistent with the known role of CrtS. We found that the proportion of ergosterol was also decreased in the Δdap1 mutant. However, even though the fractions of the end products of these two pathways (the synthesis of carotenoids and sterols) were decreased in the Δdap1 mutant, the transcript levels of genes from the P450 systems involved were higher than those in the wild-type strain. We demonstrate that Dap1 coimmunoprecipitates with these three P450s, suggesting that Dap1 interacts with these three proteins. We propose that Dap1 regulates the synthesis of astaxanthin and ergosterol in X. dendrorhous, probably by regulating the P450s involved in both biosynthetic pathways at the protein level. Dark matter with Planck-scale mass (≃10^{19}  GeV/c^{2}) arises in well-motivated theories and could be produced by several cosmological mechanisms. A search for multiscatter signals from supermassive dark matter was performed with a blind analysis of data collected over a 813 d live time with DEAP-3600, a 3.3 t single-phase liquid argon-based detector at SNOLAB. No candidate signals were observed, leading to the first direct detection constraints on Planck-scale mass dark matter. Leading limits constrain dark matter masses between 8.3×10^{6} and 1.2×10^{19}  GeV/c^{2}, and ^{40}Ar-scattering cross sections between 1.0×10^{-23} and 2.4×10^{-18}  cm^{2}. These results are interpreted as constraints on composite dark matter models with two different nucleon-to-nuclear cross section scalings.

Hemotropic mycoplasmas cause hemolytic anemia in a variety of wild and domestic mammals. Despite growing evidence about their widespread presence and genetic diversity in wildlife, their presence has never been investigated in Chilean artiodactyls. We aimed to describe the presence and diversity of hemoplasmas in pudus (Pudu puda), a small cervid native to Chile. Hemoplasma infection was assessed in blood samples from 43 wild and 33 captive pudus from central and southern Chile by direct sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. We detected hemoplasmas in 13%, with no statistical differences between wild (19%) and captive animals (6%). A sequence closely related to Mycoplasma ovis was present both in wild (14%) and captive (6%) pudus. Two previously undescribed sequences, classified in a clade including hemoplasmas from carnivores, were found in one wild pudu each. This study presents the first evidence of the presence of M. ovislike organisms in Chile and of the susceptibility of pudus to infection with hemoplasmas. Further research is needed to understand the pathologic consequences of this pathogen for pudus, its effects at the population level, and their potential impact on the health small ruminants and other wildlife species in Chile., (© Wildlife Disease Association 2022.)

Antiretroviral treatments successfully suppress and control HIV but cannot eliminate the virus. In recent years, much research has gone into developing a cure for HIV. This research comes with significant risks and limited clinical benefits to study participants. Little is known about the knowledge, willingness, motivations, and barriers of participating in HIV cure-related research. This is particularly true among young people living with HIV (YLWH), despite those <30 years having the highest HIV infection rates in the United States. YLWH have experienced a different phase of the HIV epidemic from their older counterparts. To guide HIV cure research development, more resources need to be directed toward understanding the perspectives of YLWH and meaningfully involving them in research. As the field of HIV cure research continues to grow and innovate, it is critical that we proactively engage YLWH as they will soon be at the forefront of decision making toward ending the HIV epidemic.
