This study examines the legal vulnerability of people with intellectual disabilities exposed to domestic violence and sexual abuse, and has the research question: How is the legal vulnerability of people with intellectual disabilities represented in stories of abuse and violence told by the police? The study is based on interviews with 11 police officers who coordinate such cases. The term legal vulnerability and Goffman’s theoretical perspectives of the interaction order is used to provide an understanding of factors which may challenge the competence in safeguarding their legal rights. The analysis generated five themes. Our findings suggest that their lack of competence or experience in social interaction with others makes them vulnerable to exploitation. Legal vulnerability also occurs in the interaction with the police, due to a mismatch in police officers’ expectations of an investigative interview and their challenges to account for what they have been subjected to.

Hensikten med denne artikkelen er å tilføre erfaring om samskaping fra et prosjekt i høyere utdanning, hvor målet var utvikling av digitale emner innen fagområdet seksuell helse. Observasjoner av prosjektmøter ble analysert i en tematisk analyse. Kjennetegn ved prosjektet som ledelsesforankret fremkom ved at det ble stilt forventninger til deltakere om at de skulle jobbe for felles mål i prosjektet. Resultatene viste at samskapingsprosessen var kjennetegnet av kompetanse- og informasjonsdeling mellom deltakerne. Prosessen var i tillegg preget av posisjonering, i den forstand at ulike faglige forutsetninger blant deltakerne gav grunnlag for gjentakende diskusjoner om forståelse og anvendelse av ulike teoretiske perspektiver og begreper. Faglige særinteresser og erfaringer påvirket ledelse og distribusjon av makt i samskaping både i prosjektledergruppemøtene og i referansegruppemøtene. Videre belyser resultater behov for åpen kommunikasjon, felles mål og klare forventninger til deltakelse. Resultatene tyder på at samskaping i utvikling av høyere utdanning kan være krevende for både ledelse og deltakere, men at det samtidig muligheter til å ivareta kunnskapsbasert kvalitetsutvikling i lys av behov i praksisfeltet.

Violence prevention approaches using social-ecological models inform interventions for people with intellectual disability, who often face barriers to accessing generalist courses. This study explores the experiences of healthcare professionals leading a prevention course specifically designed for adults with intellectual disability. Through semistructured interviews, 12 Norwegian course leaders highlighted the importance of raising awareness and comprehension about rights, and the social and individual factors influencing experiences of violence and its prevention. Challenges were encountered in tailoring the course to the diverse lived experiences of participants with disabilities and addressing ongoing support needs for their safety. The study suggests that adopting a pedagogical or didactic model could serve as a foundation to enhance the planning and delivery of the course.
