Abstract

Valuing the profitability of investment projects plays an important role in the decision-making process. This fact is more evident for investment decisions that are made sequentially, and in a particular order. In this paper we focus on one specific kind of two-stage sequential investments — a compound option to expand. As a result of the real options approach, the project/option values are governed by partial differential equations with two variables, namely, the time and the underlying output price, which is given by a relevant stochastic process. Since the flexibility embedded in the investment project considered is analogous to a call on call option, common pricing techniques from financial engineering can be easily used to solve the governing equations. Therefore, to improve the numerical valuation we solve the corresponding equations by a discontinuous Galerkin approach with a semi-implicit time stepping scheme. We proceed backwards to find the value of the compound option, from the value of the completed project through the value of the option to expand in the second stage to the value of the option to expand in the first stage. Finally, the numerical results obtained are compared within the reference benchmark. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article presents two significant localities in Prague, Czech Republic, where new complex approaches of urban and transport engineering in public space will be applied. The paper will present important urban planning measures and specific proposals for the solution and incorporation of transport into public spaces, which will lead to the calming of the automotive transport and also its fluidity will be maintained. Furthermore, the requirement for public transport, bicycle transport and above all to necessary pedestrian relations will be reflected. Integral part of the basic preparation is the economic and transport-engineering analysis, which generally fits into urban planning in given localities. [1] Results of these analyses would be projected to prepared plans and actual projects from praxis. [2] In the article two areas will be introduced, which we dealt with in praxis and where the new approaches to the solution of public spaces and transport-engineering procedures were applied. The first area is Vyton in Prague with important transfer relations in public transport. The second is Hlavka bridge area, which is important node for individual transport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
