This study builds on previous research into the basic flow structure of a separated curved swept compression ramp shock wave/turbulence boundary layer interaction (CSCR-SWBLI) at the leading edge of an inward-turning inlet. We employ the ice-cluster-based planar laser scattering (IC-PLS) technique, which integrates multiple observation directions and positions, to experimentally investigate a physical model with typical parameter states at a freestream Mach number of 2.85. This study captures the fine structure of some sections of the flow field and identifies the presence of Görtler vortices (GVs) in the CSCR-SWBLI. It is observed that due to the characteristics of variable sweep angle, variable intensity interaction, and centrifugal force, GVs exhibit strong three-dimensional characteristics in the curved section. Additionally, their position is not fixed in the spanwise direction, demonstrating strong intermittence. As the vortices develop downstream, their size gradually increases while the number decreases, always corresponding to the local boundary layer thickness. When considering the effects of coupling of bilateral walls, it is noted that the main difference between double-sided coupling and single-sided uncoupling conditions is the presence of a large-scale vortex in the central plane and an odd number of GVs in the double-sided model. Finally, the existence of GVs in CSCR-SWBLI is verified through the classical determine criteria Görtler number (GT) and Floryan number (F) decision basis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to extract phenolic-enriched compounds, specifically oleuropein, luteoloside, and hydroxytyrosol, from olive leaves using ball milling-assisted extraction (BMAE). Response surface methodology (RSM) and the Box–Behnken design (BBD) were used to evaluate the effects of the temperature, solvent-to-solid ratio, and milling speed on extraction recovery. The contents of the extract were determined by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) and converted to recoveries to evaluate the extraction efficiency. The optimal extraction conditions for oleuropein, luteoloside, and hydroxytyrosol were identified. Oleuropein had a recovery of 79.0% ± 0.9% at a temperature of 56.4 °C, a solvent-to-solid ratio of 39.1 mL/g, and a milling speed of 429 rpm. Luteoloside's recovery was 74.6% ± 1.2% at 58.4 °C, 31.3 mL/g, and 328 rpm. Hydroxytyrosol achieved 43.1% ± 1.3% recovery at 51.5 °C, 32.7 mL/g, and 317 rpm. The reason for the high recoveries might be that high energy ball milling could reduce the sample size further, breaking down the cell walls of olive leaves, to enhance the mass transfer of these components from the cell to solvent. BMAE is displayed to be an efficient approach to extracting oleuropein, luteoloside, and hydroxytyrosol from olive leaves, which is easy to extend to industrial production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many UAVs today have an S-bend inlet for the sake of stealth; however, the majority of them have a relatively gentle transition of the flow channel. This study presents an experimental investigation of the aerodynamic performance and swirl flow characteristics of a UAV inlet with double 90° bends, which is also integrated with an aircraft fuselage as well as a volute. The influences of angle of attack, sideslip angle, AIP Mach number and freestream speed are explored in detail. The influences of the deflectors installed ahead of the first 90° bend of the inlet and the baffle installed at the bottom of the volute are revealed. It is found that both the deflectors and the baffle are beneficial in enhancing the aerodynamic performance of the inlet and alleviating the intensity of the swirl flow inside the volute. In the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) state of tiltrotor aircraft, the inlet entrance encounters the incoming airflow at a 90° attack angle, resulting in highly complex internal flow characteristics that are extremely susceptible to gusts. Meanwhile, the flow quality at the inlet exit directly affects the performance of the aircraft's engine. This work made use of an unsteady numerical simulation method based on sliding meshes to investigate the internal flow characteristics of the inlet during the hover state of a typical tiltrotor aircraft and the effects of head-on gusts on the inlet's aerodynamic characteristics. The results show that during the hover state, the tiltrotor aircraft inlet features three pairs of transverse vortices and one streamwise vortex at the aerodynamic interface plane (AIP). The transverse vortices generated due to the rotational motion of the air have the largest scale and exert the strongest influence on the inlet's performance, which is characterized by pronounced unsteady features. Additionally, strong unsteady characteristics are present within the inlet. Head-on gusts mainly affect the mechanical energy and non-uniformity of the air sucked into the inlet by influencing the direction of the rotor's induced slipstream, thereby impacting the performance of the inlet. The larger head-on gusts have beneficial effects on the performance of the inlet. When the gust velocity reaches 12 m/s, there is a 1.01% increase in the total pressure recovery (σ) of the inlet, a 25.72% decrease in the circumferential distortion index (DC60), and a reduction of 62.84% in the area where the swirl angle |α| exceeds 15°. Conversely, when the gust velocity of head-on gusts reaches 12 m/s in the opposite direction, the inlet's total pressure recovery decreases by 1.13%, the circumferential distortion index increases by 14.57%, and the area where the swirl angle exceeds 15° increases by 69.59%, adversely affecting the performance of the inlet. In this study, the length scaling for the boundary layer separation induced by two incident shock waves is experimentally and analytically investigated. The experiments are performed in a Mach 2.73 flow. A double-wedge shock generator with two deflection angles ($\alpha _1$ and $\alpha _2$) is employed to generate two incident shock waves. Two deflection angle combinations with an identical total deflection angle are adopted: ($\alpha _1 = 7^\circ$ , $\alpha _2 = 5^\circ$) and ($\alpha _1 = 5^\circ$ , $\alpha _2 = 7^\circ$). For each deflection angle combination, the flow features of the dual-incident shock wave–turbulent boundary layer interactions (dual-ISWTBLIs) under five shock wave distance conditions are examined via schlieren photography, wall-pressure measurements and surface oil-flow visualisation. The experimental results show that the separation point moves downstream with increasing shock wave distance ($d$). For the dual-ISWTBLIs exhibiting a coupling separation state, the upstream interaction length ($L_{int}$) of the separation region approximately linearly decreases with increasing $d$ , and the decrease rate of $L_{int}$ with $d$ increases with the second deflection angle under the condition of an identical total deflection angle. Based on control volume analysis of mass and momentum conservations, the relation between $L_{int}$ and $d$ is analytically determined to be approximately linear for the dual-ISWTBLIs with a coupling separation region, and the slope of the linear relation obtained analytically agrees well with that obtained experimentally. Furthermore, a prediction method for $L_{int}$ of the dual-ISWTBLIs with a coupling separation region is proposed, and the relative error of the predicted $L_{int}$ in comparison with the experimental result is $\sim$ 10 %. The intricate balance among cost, output, and quality has substantially hindered the practical application of graphene within the downstream industry chain. Here we present a scalable and green supercritical CO 2 -assisted mechano-exfoliation (SCME) process that omits the use of organic solvents and oxidants throughout the production lifecycle, including exfoliation, separation, and purification. The SCME process achieves graphene powder space-time yields exceeding 40 kg/(m³·day) at laboratory (0.06-0.2 kg) and pilot scales ( > 4 kg), with resultant free-standing films showing conductivities up to 5.26 × 10⁵ S/m. Further kinetic investigations propose general guidelines for grinding-assisted exfoliation: (1) the macroscopic optimizing ability of mechanotechnics for mass transfer frequency and stress distribution and (2) the microscopic multiplication ability of exfoliation medium for shear-delamination. Small RNA (sRNA)-mediated RNA interference (RNAi) is a sequence-specific gene silencing mechanism that modulates gene expression in eukaryotes. As core molecules of RNAi, various sRNAs are encoded in the plant genome or derived from invading RNA molecules, and their biogenesis depends on distinct genetic pathways. Transitive small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), which are sRNAs produced from double-strand RNA (dsRNA) in a process that depends on RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RDRs), can amplify and spread silencing signals to additional transcripts, thereby enabling a phenomenon termed "transitive RNAi". Members of this class of siRNAs function in various biological processes ranging from development to stress adaptation. In Arabidopsis thaliana , two RDRs participate in the generation of transitive siRNAs, acting cooperatively with various siRNA generation-related factors, such as the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and aberrant RNAs. Transitive siRNAs are produced in diverse subcellular locations and structures under the control of various mechanisms, highlighting the intricacies of their biogenesis and functions. In this review, we discuss recent advances in understanding the molecular events of transitive siRNA biogenesis and its regulation, with a particular focus on factors involved in RDR recruitment. We aim to provide a comprehensive description of the generalized mechanism governing the biogenesis of transitive siRNAs. Additionally, we present an overview of the diverse biological functions of these siRNAs and raise some pressing questions in this area for further investigation.
