Previous observational studies have found an association between sleep behaviors and grip strength, but the causal relationship remains unclear.Purpose: With the Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, the study aimed to determine the causal association between sleep traits (sleep duration, insomnia, daytime napping, sleep-wake disorders, chronotype) and low grip strength.Methods: The study used genetic variants from the genome-wide association study (GWAS) archived in UK Biobank and FinnGen. We assessed the potential causal relationship between sleep behaviors and grip strength using inverse variance weighting (IVW), weighted median (WM), and MR-Egger. Additionally, we performed sensitivity analyses using Cochran’s Q test, MR Egger Intercept test, funnel plots, and leave-one-out method.Results: We found that sleep duration is causally negatively associated with low grip strength (OR = 0.618, 95% CI = 0.424– 0.900, P = 0.012). Sleep-wake disorders have a positive association with low grip strength (OR = 1.018, 95% CI = 1.002– 1.034, P = 0.029). Reversely, high low grip strength risk was causally associated with increased daytime napping (OR = 1.018, 95% CI = 1.004– 1.032, P = 0.011).Conclusion: The study revealed causal associations between sleep duration, sleep-wake disorders, and low grip strength. Understanding their relationship helps in early clinical intervention to improve the life quality of the elderly.Keywords: sleep, low grip strength, Mendelian randomization

Patients were randomly assigned to 2 groups (n=39): Group taVNS received taVNS (1h /1time, 6times) within the first 12 h after surgery; Group SS received sham stimulation (SS) in the same manner. Pain scores at 0, 4, 8, 12, 24, 48 h after surgery were assessed with Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NRS). The incidence, duration and onset of rebound pain were recorded. In addition, additional analgesic requirements and side effects in the first 48 h postoperatively, as well as sleep disturbance on the night of surgery, were examined.Results: The incidence and duration of rebound pain were lower in the taVNS group than in the SS group (P=0.025 and P=0.015, respectively). Pain scores at 8 h and 12 h postoperatively were significantly lower in the taVNS group compared with the SS group (P< 0.05). The number of times to press the patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump and the number of patients requiring additional analgesic were significantly lower in the taVNS group than in the SS group until 12 h after surgery (P=0.021 and P=0.004, respectively). The number of patients with sleep disturbance in the taVNS group was lower than that in the SS group (P=0.030).Conclusion: The taVNS exerts beneficial effect on rebound pain after femoral nerve block in patients undergoing ACLR, which reduces the incidence and duration of rebound pain, the need for postoperative additional analgesic, and the number of complications.Keywords: rebound pain, transauricular vagus nerve stimulation, femoral nerve block, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

CPSP produces suffering in patients, both physically and mentally. However, the mechanisms underlying CPSP remain elusive. Here, a genome-wide expression profiling of ipsilateral spinal cord dorsal horn (SCDH) was performed to identify potential genes related with CPSP.Methods: A rat skin/muscle incision and retraction (SMIR) model was established to induce CPSP. Immunostaining was used to study glial cell and neuron activation in ipsilateral SCDH of SMIR model rats. RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), combined with bioinformatics analysis, was undertaken to explore gene expression profiles. qPCR was applied to validate the expression of some representative genes.Results: The SMIR model rats developed persistent mechanical allodynia in ipsilateral hindpaw for up to 14 days. Ipsilateral SCDH of SMIR rats showed remarkable glial cell and neuron activation. A number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in ipsilateral SCDH of SMIR rats by RNA-Seq. qPCR confirmed expression of some representative DEGs. Bioinformatics indicated that chemical synaptic transmission, sensory perception of pain and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction were predominant functions. We compared our dataset with human pain-related genes and found that several genes exclusively participate in pain modulation and mechanisms.Conclusion: Our study provided novel understandings of the molecular mechanisms possibly contributing to CPSP. The chiral light field has attracted great attention owing to its interaction with chiral matter. The generation of chiral light fields with rich structures has become crucial as it can expand application scenarios. Herein, we introduce a chiral optical vortex lattice. As a whole, the optical vortex lattice has a chiral intensity distribution, with each spiral arm having sub-vortices (chiral phase). By using an expansion factor to adjust the involute of a circular lattice, this helical optical vortex lattice can be continuously varied from a circular lattice. The chirality of intensity and phase can be controlled independently. Furthermore, the optical tweezers using the lattice demonstrate the capability of sub-vortices to manipulate particle movement, with the chiral intensity determining the trajectory of particle motion. As the lattice possesses both intensity and phase chirality, it may also find potential applications in tasks such as chiral structure microfabrication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to create a cost-effective Zr alloy with superior overall characteristics, Zr-xFe (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 at.%) binary alloys were prepared by a vacuum arc furnace system. The microstructure of these alloys was examined utilizing various techniques such as optical microscope, X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the addition of Fe effectively refined α-Zr slats, and the Zr3Fe compound phase was dispersed throughout the alloy. However, the composition line of the alloying elements in the phase diagram intersected with the Zr2Fe and β-Zr eutectic lines when the Fe content exceeded 6 at.%. Zr–Fe alloys were transformed from monocrystalline-eutectoid to eutectic-eutectoid reactions. The Zr3Fe compound phase accumulated inside the grain and at the grain boundary as a result of the eutectic reaction, which stabilized the microstructure of the Zr–Fe alloys. This seriously affected the mechanical and corrosion properties of the alloys. The mechanical and corrosion properties of the alloys were assessed by universal testing machine, dynamic microhardness tester, Vickers hardness tester, and electrochemical workstation. The mechanical and corrosion properties of Zr–2Fe were excellent due to the coupling effect of Zr3Fe and grain refinement. The surface of the Zr–Fe alloy was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, revealing the presence of passivation film components ZrO2 and Fe2O3.

Structured light has been exploited as an important tool for particle manipulation along a desired complex path. However, generating the required structured light illumination for the creation of an arbitrary shape without an analytic expression as a guide is challenging, specifically for designing a structured beam by mapping the shape of an arbitrary object. To address this issue, we propose an effective scheme to customize structured light freely and precisely by modifying the epicycle model in astrophysics. Predesigned structured beams can be identified with or without explicit analytic expressions of the desired shapes. Moreover, we study the roles and relationships between the number of epicycles and the number of key points. The local stretching and transformation of a specific structured beam are also analyzed. The advantages of the proposed method are demonstrated by conducting dynamic manipulation experiments using polystyrene particles. This method is simple and intuitive and provides an effective toolkit for the design of structured light for more complex tasks, thus facilitating advanced applications in optical manipulations. Information flow analysis can effectively model the security behavior and security properties of hardware design. However, the existing gate level information flow analysis methods cannot deal with large-scale designs due to computing power and verification effectiveness, and the register transfer level (RTL) information flow analysis methods require formal languages to rewrite hardware designs. This paper proposes a RTL hardware design information flow modeling and security verification method. Based on the RTL functional model, this method develops an information flow tracking logical model to model security behavior and security properties of RTL hardware designs from the perspective of information flow. This method can be integrated into EDA flows and uses EDA testing and verification tools to capture security property violations and detect security vulnerabilities based on non-interference security policy. The results on experiments with Trust-Hub hardware Trojan benchmarks show that the proposed method can effectively detect hardware Trojans.

By selecting five key operational parameters—inlet temperature, operating temperature, anode humidity, cathode humidity, and operating pressure—and using PEMFC power density, membrane temperature difference, and membrane water content as performance indicators, simulations were conducted using 3D CFD modeling and orthogonal experiments to identify the most significant factors influencing PEMFC performance and determine the optimal operational parameter combination. The results show that working pressure has the most significant impact on PEMFC performance. Pressure variations cause significant changes in diffusion and heat conduction within the PEMFC. When the working pressure increases from 1.0 MPa to 3.0 MPa, the power density increases by approximately 11.2 %, but the temperature difference within the membrane increases by about 30.5 %. The difference between operating temperature and inlet temperature directly leads to changes in the temperature difference within the membrane. Moreover, changes in operating temperature greatly affect the water content within the proton exchange membrane, which in turn impacts the PEMFC's power density. When the operating temperature increases from 60 °C to 100 °C, the water content within the membrane decreases by approximately 50.5 %, and the power density decreases by 60.4 %. By optimizing the combination of operating parameters using a comprehensive scoring method, the temperature difference within the membrane can be controlled at 27.78 °C while ensuring the power density is increased to 0.92 W/cm2.

Abstract Background Mitochondrial transplantation (MTx) has emerged as a novel therapeutic strategy, particularly effective in diseases characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction. This review synthesizes current knowledge on MTx, focusing on its role in modulating immune responses and explores its potential in treating post-cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS). Methods We conducted a comprehensive narrative review of animal and human studies that have investigated the effects of MTx in the context of immunomodulation. This included a review of the immune responses following critical condition such as ischemia reperfusion injury, the impact of MTx on these responses, and the therapeutic potential of MTx in various conditions. Results Recent studies indicate that MTx can modulate complex immune responses and reduce ischemia–reperfusion injury post-CA, suggesting MTx as a novel, potentially more effective approach. The review highlights the role of MTx in immune modulation, its potential synergistic effects with existing treatments such as therapeutic hypothermia, and the need for further research to optimize its application in PCAS. The safety and efficacy of autologous versus allogeneic MTx, particularly in the context of immune reactions, are critical areas for future investigation. Conclusion MTx represents a promising frontier in the treatment of PCAS, offering a novel approach to modulate immune responses and restore cellular energetics. Future research should focus on long-term effects, combination therapies, and personalized medicine approaches to fully harness the potential of MTx in improving patient outcomes in PCAS.

The use of multiple digital technologies has addressed conventional exhibition display issues, improving public experience, and aiding in the understanding of historical changes in cultural heritage. This facilitates community sharing and international promotion. Furthermore, the promotion of novel digital application scenarios can encourage the growth of cultural consumption and the digital creativity industry. Beijing's Central Axis is a remarkable and well-preserved example of a traditional central axis in China's capital cities. It is comprised of numerous building complexes and archaeological sites located within the old city. This axis was first constructed in the 13th century, shaped in the 16th century, and continues to thrive today while remaining open to the future. By assessing its dynamic "growth" and "living" value, we have devised an innovative interpretation system plan that includes Augmented Reality Tours, immersive exhibitions in historical buildings, online exhibitions, and a series of public activities. The pilot project, implemented at the Drum Tower located at the northern end of the Central Axis, involved careful restoration and scientific transformation, accurate heritage documentation, and digital reconstruction. Digital creativity empowered and activated the historical building, achieving a comprehensive balance of conservation, utilization, and economics. The exhibition has garnered favorable feedback, particularly from the younger generation, who appreciate the combination of ancient cultural heritage themes and modern digital immersive displays. Due to strict requirements for high-tech processes, yield is an essential performance measure of quality output and affects production economics significantly. Yield is a performance index that significantly influences the optimal decision on profit and production quantity. For instance, in micro light-emitting diodes (MicroLED) manufacturing, the yield of surface mounting highly affects the production cost. To guarantee the production decision is reliable, accurately evaluating yields is crucial. However, the existing yield evaluation method for asymmetric processes with a very low fraction of defective by process capability index is conservative and may mislead the decisions. In this paper, a revised unbiased estimator is investigated and a weighted parametric bootstrap method for accurate production decision making is provided. With extensive comparisons, the proposed method outperforms the existing analytical method and considerably improves the precision of yield evaluation. We also provided managerial insights for a profit with various yield measure methods. Abstract The waiting time to deceased-donor kidney transplantation (DDKT) is long in Asian countries. We investigated the impact of sensitization and ABO blood type (ABO) on DDKT opportunity using two Korean cohorts: a hospital cohort from two centers and a national database. The impact of panel reactive antibody (PRA) based on the maximal PRA% and ABO on DDKT accessibility was analyzed using a competing risks regression model. Co3+-doped LaBO3 powders were synthesized by combustion method using La(NO3)3·6H2O, Co(NO3)3·6H2O), H3BO3, and C2H5NO2 as the raw materials with the mole ratio of [La(NO3)3·6H2O+Co(NO3)3·6H2O]:H3BO3:C2H5NO2=3:3:5. The synthesis process and crystal morphology of the target products La(1−x)CoxBO3 (x=0.01~0.04) at 750~950 ℃ were studied. The influence of synthesis conditions on the crystal morphology of the powder products was analyzed. The optimal ratio of the raw materials, reaction temperature, reaction time, and doping dosage were obtained. In the results, the combustion synthesis method can be used to prepare the Co3+-doped LaBO3 powders, and the experimental conditions are simple, the calcination temperature is low, the yield is high, and it is easy to industrialization. The optimal reaction condition is 900 ℃ and 4 h, the doping dosage of cobalt as modifier is x=0.03, and the products are La0.97Co0.03BO3 powders. Under the optimal reaction condition, the products are the short rod-like powders in the uniform particle size distribution with the diameter of 115~185 nm and the length of 400~600 nm. The fluorescence excitation band appears at 330~440 nm for the Co3+-doped LaBO3 powders, indicating that the Co3+-doped LaBO3 powders with the uniform particle size and crystal morphology can be used as the substrate material for preparing the luminescent powders.

Aim: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitors on the bond strength of resin-cemented fibre posts to radicular dentin under an aged-loaded condition. Materials and methods: Radicular dentin was prepared and irrigated by MMP inhibitor solution after root canal obturation in 60 extracted single-rooted teeth based on 6 groups: (1) 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) + loaded; (2) CHX + unloaded; (3) 0.5% benzalkonium chloride (BAC) + loaded; (4) BAC + unloaded; (5) 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) + loaded; and (6) EDTA + unloaded. After final rinsing, all specimens were sliced cross-sectionally and kept in a water bath for 12 months of ageing. Groups 1, 3, and 5 were subjected to cyclic loading. Push-out tests were conducted using a universal testing machine, and failure mode was examined. The data were analysed using 3-way analysis of variance and post hoc tests at α = 0.05. Results: BAC + unloaded demonstrated the highest mean bond strength (3.12 ± 0.18 MPa; P < .001), while the BAC + loaded and CHX + loaded groups showed a significantly lower push-out bond strength than their unloaded counterparts. Mixed adhesive-cohesive failure was the most common failure mode observed. Conclusions: Without cycling loading, BAC was superior to CHX and EDTA in preserving the bond strength of resin-cemented fibre posts after 12 months of ageing. Loading significantly weakened the effectiveness of BAC and CHX in preserving the bond strength.

When recording the vegetation distribution with a camera, shadows can form due to factors like camera angle and direct sunlight. These shadows result in the loss of pixel information and texture details, significantly reducing the accuracy of fractional vegetation coverage (FVC) extraction. To address this issue, this study proposes an efficient double-exposure algorithm. The method reconstructs the pixel information in shadow areas by fusing normal-exposure and overexposed images. This approach overcomes the limitations of the camera’s dynamic range in capturing pixel information in shadowed regions. The study evaluates images with five levels of overexposure combined with five vegetation extraction indices. The aim is to determine the best-performing double-exposure combination under shadow conditions and the most suitable vegetation index. Experimental results reveal that the R² value between the best vegetation index and the FVC calculated from the fused double-exposure images and the ground truth FVC increases from 0.750 to 0.969. The root mean square error (RMSE) reduces from 0.146 to 0.046, and the intersection over union (IOU) increases from 0.856 to 0.943. These results demonstrate the excellent vegetation extraction capability of the double-exposure algorithm under shadow conditions, offering a straightforward and effective solution to low accuracy of FVC in shadowed areas.

BackgroundCardiac arrest (CA) is a significant public health concern. There is the high imminent mortality and survival in those who are resuscitated is substantively compromised by the post-CA syndrome (PCAS), characterized by multiorgan ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI). The inflammatory response in PCAS is complex and involves various immune cell types, including lymphocytes and myeloid cells that have been shown to exacerbate organ IRI, such as myocardial infarction. Purinergic signaling, as regulated by CD39 and CD73, has emerged as centrally important in the context of organ-specific IRI. Hence, comprehensive understanding of such purinergic responses may be likewise imperative for improving outcomes in PCAS.MethodsWe have investigated alterations of immune cell populations after CA by utilizing rodent models of PCAS. Blood and spleen were collected after CA and resuscitation and underwent flow cytometry analysis to evaluate shifts in CD3+CD4+ helper T cells, CD3+CD8a+ cytotoxic T cells, and CD4/CD8a ratios. We then examined the expression of CD39 and CD73 across diverse cell types, including myeloid cells, T lymphocytes, and B lymphocytes.ResultsIn both rat and mouse models, there were significant increases in the frequency of CD3+CD4+ T lymphocytes in PCAS (rat, P < 0.01; mouse, P < 0.001), with consequently elevated CD4/CD8a ratios in whole blood (both, P < 0.001). Moreover, CD39 and CD73 expression on blood leukocytes were markedly increased (rat, P < 0.05; mouse, P < 0.01 at 24h). Further analysis in the experimental mouse model revealed that CD11b+ myeloid cells, with significant increase in their population (P < 0.01), had high level of CD39 (88.80 ± 2.05 %) and increased expression of CD73 (P < 0.05). CD19+ B lymphocytes showed slight increases of CD39 (P < 0.05 at 2h) and CD73 (P < 0.05 at 2h), while, CD3+ T lymphocytes had decreased levels of them. These findings suggested a distinct patterns of expression of CD39 and CD73 in these specific immune cell populations after CA.ConclusionsThese data have provided comprehensive insights into the immune response after CA, highlighting high-level expressions of CD39 and CD73 in myeloid cells.

ObjectiveTo analyze the online public Q&A texts on HPV vaccine， focus on the important issues related to HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention in China， and propose strategies and suggestions.MethodsThe latent Dirichlet allocation （LDA） topic model was employed to extract key topics of 15 565 Q&A texts related to HPV vaccines from the social Q&A platform "Zhihu". The Baidu AI sentiment analysis tool was used to analyze the emotional tendencies of the texts corresponding to each topic， and the topics were classified based on the strategic coordinate method.ResultsOnline users focused on eight topics about HPV vaccine information. Among them， vaccination knowledge， HPV vaccination hesitation， and HPV vaccine development and marketing belonged to the low positivity-high negativity emotional topics， HPV infection and high-risk factors belonged to the low positivity-low negativity emotional topics， and HPV vaccine appointment channels， comparison between domestic and imported vaccines， HPV vaccines and cervical cancer prevention， and HPV vaccine types and selection were grouped under high positivity-low negativity emotional topics.ConclusionPublic concerns regarding HPV vaccines can be classified into three major dimensions： health knowledge， health beliefs， and health behaviors. Overall， the public's views and attitudes towards vaccine-related issues are not optimistic. Strengthening science publicity and education， enhancing vaccine supervision， and encouraging enterprises’ innovative research and development capability are effective strategies to improve public awareness of cervical cancer prevention and accelerate the full HPV vaccination coverage.

Titanium oxides (TiO2) nanostructures coating is helpful in improving the utilization of titanium in many areas due to its multifunctional properties. This study introduces a novel approach for the in-situ fabrication of nano cones-like structures of rutile titanium oxides (NCS–TiO2) on the surface of titanium utilizing femtosecond laser technology. Rutile titanium oxides were synthesized with a height of around 80 nm and a diameter of 100 nm, forming NCS that imparts higher hardness, wear resistance, and biocompatibility. Molecular dynamic simulation provides valuable insights into the three-stage formation process of NCS-TiO2. Molecular dynamic simulation revealed that the growth of rutile titanium oxides and the formation of nano cones-like structures are attributed to the interplay between femtosecond laser ablation and the accumulation of thermal energy. The proposed method offers a versatile and straightforward approach for creating functional surfaces on metal substrates, enabling broad applicability and ease of implementation, specifically in titanium and its alloys. This advancement holds great potential for expanding the scope of titanium-based materials and their applications, paving the way for improved mechanical properties and biocompatibility in diverse fields.

The development of light composite rotor blades with acceptable load carrying capacity is an essential issue to be dealt with in the design of relatively large copter-type drones. In this paper, a method is established to determine the quasi-static blade load carrying capacity which is vital to drone reliability. The proposed method, which provides a systematic procedure to determine blade load carrying capacity, consists of three parts, namely, a procedure to determine the distributed quasi-static blade aerodynamic load via the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) approach, a finite element-based failure analysis method to identify the actual blade failure mode, and an optimization method to determine the actual blade load carrying capacity. The experimental failure characteristics (failure mode, failure thrust, failure location) of two types of composite sandwich rotor blades with different skin lamination arrangements have been used to verify the accuracy of the theoretical results obtained using the proposed load carrying capacity determination method. The skin lamination arrangement for attaining the optimal blade-specific load carrying capacity and the blade incipient rotational speed for safe drone operation has been determined using the proposed method.

Abstract Background Glial scar formation is a reactive glial response confining injured regions in a central nervous system. However, it remains challenging to identify key factors formulating glial scar in response to glioblastoma (GBM) due to complex glia-GBM crosstalk. Methods Here, we constructed an astrocytic scar enclosing GBM in a human assembloid and a mouse xenograft model. GBM spheroids were preformed and then co-cultured with microglia and astrocytes in 3D Matrigel. For the xenograft model, U87-MG cells were subcutaneously injected to the Balb/C nude female mice. Results Additional glutamate was released from GBM-microglia assembloid by 3.2-folds compared to GBM alone. The glutamate upregulated astrocytic monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) activity and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) deposition, forming the astrocytic scar and restricting GBM growth. Attenuating scar formation by the glutamate–MAO-B inhibition increased drug penetration into GBM assembloid, while reducing GBM confinement. Conclusions Taken together, our study suggests that astrocytic scar could be a critical modulator in GBM therapeutics. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Hand gesture plays an important role in many circumstances, which is one of the most common interactive methods in daily life, especially for disabled people. Human–machine interaction is another popular research topic to realize direct and efficient control, making machines intelligent and maneuverable. Here, a special human–machine interaction system is proposed and namedas computer‐vision (CV) based gesture‐metasurface interaction (GMI) system, which can be used for both direct beam manipulations and real‐time wireless communications. The GMI system first needs to select its working mode according to the gesture command to determine whether to perform beam manipulations or wireless communications, and then validate the permission for further operation by recognizing unlocking gesture to ensure security. Both beam manipulation and wireless communication functions are validated experimentally, which show that the GMI system can not only realize real‐time switching and remote control of different beams through gesture command, but also communicate with a remote computer in real time by translating the gesture language to text message. The proposed non‐contact GMI system has the advantages of good interactivity, high flexibility, and multiple functions, which can find potential applications in community security, gesture‐command smart home, barrier‐free communications, and so on.

The development of proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs) is primarily challenged by the slow and unstable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode. Thus, the pursuit of low‐cost, highly efficient, and durable electrocatalysts is the foundation for the widespread adoption of PEMWEs. In the past few decades, various types of electrocatalysts are proposed to serve as anode materials for acidic OER, but only a few demonstrate catalytic activity and stability comparable to iridium‐ and ruthenium‐based electrocatalysts. In recent years, some transition‐metal oxides are studied as potential candidates for acidic OER. For instance, spinel‐type oxides, e.g., Co3O4, and corresponding compounds demonstrate promise due to the rich coordination structure of metallic ions and moderate adoption energy for intermedia. In this review, recent advances in spinel‐type oxides for acidic OER are summarized. First, a fundamental understanding of reaction mechanisms for OER in acidic media is introduced. Thereafter, recent progress in rational design principles and optimization strategies for spinel oxides is systematically summarized. Finally, challenges and perspectives for the development of spinel‐based acidic OER electrocatalysts are discussed.

Abstract Background Mitochondrial transplantation (MTx) is an emerging but poorly understood technology with the potential to mitigate severe ischemia–reperfusion injuries after cardiac arrest (CA). To address critical gaps in the current knowledge, we test the hypothesis that MTx can improve outcomes after CA resuscitation. Methods This study consists of both in vitro and in vivo studies. We initially examined the migration of exogenous mitochondria into primary neural cell culture in vitro. Exogenous mitochondria extracted from the brain and muscle tissues of donor rats and endogenous mitochondria in the neural cells were separately labeled before co-culture. After a period of 24 h following co-culture, mitochondrial transfer was observed using microscopy. In vitro adenosine triphosphate (ATP) contents were assessed between freshly isolated and frozen-thawed mitochondria to compare their effects on survival. Our main study was an in vivo rat model of CA in which rats were subjected to 10 min of asphyxial CA followed by resuscitation. At the time of achieving successful resuscitation, rats were randomly assigned into one of three groups of intravenous injections: vehicle, frozen-thawed, or fresh viable mitochondria. During 72 h post-CA, the therapeutic efficacy of MTx was assessed by comparison of survival rates. The persistence of labeled donor mitochondria within critical organs of recipient animals 24 h post-CA was visualized via microscopy. Results The donated mitochondria were successfully taken up into cultured neural cells. Transferred exogenous mitochondria co-localized with endogenous mitochondria inside neural cells. ATP content in fresh mitochondria was approximately four times higher than in frozen-thawed mitochondria. In the in vivo survival study, freshly isolated functional mitochondria, but not frozen-thawed mitochondria, significantly increased 72-h survival from 55 to 91% (P = 0.048 vs. vehicle). The beneficial effects on survival were associated with improvements in rapid recovery of arterial lactate and glucose levels, cerebral microcirculation, lung edema, and neurological function. Labeled mitochondria were observed inside the vital organs of the surviving rats 24 h post-CA. Conclusions MTx performed immediately after resuscitation improved survival and neurological recovery in post-CA rats. These results provide a foundation for future studies to promote the development of MTx as a novel therapeutic strategy to save lives currently lost after CA.

Background: Mitochondrial dysfunction, which is triggered by systemic ischemia–reperfusion (IR) injury and affects various organs, is a key factor in the development of post-cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS). Current research on PCAS primarily addresses generalized mitochondrial responses, resulting in a knowledge gap regarding organ-specific mitochondrial dynamics. This review focuses on the organ-specific mitochondrial responses to IR injury, particularly examining the brain, heart, and kidneys, to highlight potential therapeutic strategies targeting mitochondrial dysfunction to enhance outcomes post-IR injury. Methods and Results: We conducted a narrative review examining recent advancements in mitochondrial research related to IR injury. Mitochondrial responses to IR injury exhibit considerable variation across different organ systems, influenced by unique mitochondrial structures, bioenergetics, and antioxidative capacities. Each organ demonstrates distinct mitochondrial behaviors that have evolved to fulfill specific metabolic and functional needs. For example, cerebral mitochondria display dynamic responses that can be both protective and detrimental to neuronal activity and function during ischemic events. Cardiac mitochondria show vulnerability to IR-induced oxidative stress, while renal mitochondria exhibit a unique pattern of fission and fusion, closely linked to their susceptibility to acute kidney injury. This organ-specific heterogeneity in mitochondrial responses requires the development of tailored interventions. Progress in mitochondrial medicine, especially in the realms of genomics and metabolomics, is paving the way for innovative strategies to combat mitochondrial dysfunction. Emerging techniques such as mitochondrial transplantation hold the potential to revolutionize the management of IR injury in resuscitation science. Conclusions: The investigation into organ-specific mitochondrial responses to IR injury is pivotal in the realm of resuscitation research, particularly within the context of PCAS. This nuanced understanding holds the promise of revolutionizing PCAS management, addressing the unique mitochondrial dysfunctions observed in critical organs affected by IR injury.

Simultaneous realization of printing and holographic images has become an emerging and promising technology for optical storage and anti‐counterfeiting, which can significantly enhance the information capacity and security of an optical system. Herein, a non‐interleaved four‐channel metasurface based on opposite‐chirality‐coexisted meta‐atoms is proposed, which can simultaneously support four independent circular polarization (CP) information channels, including two near‐field printing channels and two far‐field holography channels. In addition, due to the chiral resonance properties, the operation frequencies of these four polarization channels can also be flexibly designed to simultaneously achieve polarization multiplexing and frequency multiplexing. As a proof of concept, two four‐channel metasurfaces, one of which works at a single frequency and the other works at two different frequencies, are designed and validated numerically and experimentally. It is shown in the results that two printing and two holographic images with different handedness can be stored at one frequency or two different frequencies through the flexible design of metasurface. This four‐channel metasurface provides a new avenue for the design of future photonic devices with highly integrated and multiple functionalities, and may have an advantage in diverse potential applications, such as advanced anti‐counterfeits, optical data storage, and image displays.

Abstract Cardiac arrest (CA) patients suffer from systemic ischemia–reperfusion (IR) injury leading to multiple organ failure; however, few studies have focused on tissue-specific pathophysiological responses to IR-induced oxidative stress. Herein, we investigated biological and physiological parameters of the brain and heart, and we particularly focused on the lung dysfunction that has not been well studied to date. We aimed to understand tissue-specific susceptibility to oxidative stress and tested how oxygen concentrations in the post-resuscitation setting would affect outcomes. Rats were resuscitated from 10 min of asphyxia CA. Mechanical ventilation was initiated at the beginning of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We examined animals with or without CA, and those were further divided into the animals exposed to 100% oxygen (CA_Hypero) or those with 30% oxygen (CA_Normo) for 2 h after resuscitation. Biological and physiological parameters of the brain, heart, and lungs were assessed. Abstract The hollow TiO2 anode material has received great attention for next-generation LIBs because of its excellent stability, environmental friendly, and low volume change during lithiation/delithiation. However, there are some problems associated with the current anatase TiO2 anode materials in practical application owing to low lithium-ion diffusivity and poor reversible theoretical capacities. The introduction of defects has been turned out to be a significant and effective method to improve electronic conductivity, especially oxygen vacancies. In this paper, a facile hydrothermal reaction and subsequent chemical vapor deposition method were successfully used to fabricate Co@TiO2−x -carbon hollow nanospheres. These results suggest that the synthesized product exhibits good rate performance and superior cycling stability.

This paper systematically analyzes the current status of the mental health of young children, summarizing both the positive and negative aspects. It explores the underlying causes of these phenomena and proposes corresponding suggestions for improvement. Through a detailed analysis of the literature, the paper highlights how increasing attention and the popularization of mental health education have allowed more children to access mental health knowledge and counselling early on. Despite this progress, challenges persist due to modern lifestyle changes, rapid technological advancements, and urbanization, which negatively impact children’s mental health. Many children suffer from a lack of emotional support, high psychological pressure, and exposure to harmful information within their family and social environments. To address these issues, the paper emphasizes the need for improvements in family environments, societal support, and policies, as well as enhancements to the mental health service system. The recommendations include fostering better parent-child communication, using electronic devices judiciously, and creating supportive home environments. On a broader scale, it calls for stronger policy support, improved mental health services, and widespread mental health education.

Triterpenoidal saponins have been reported to be able to restrain SARS-CoV-2 infection. To isolate antiviral compounds against SARS-CoV-2 from the leaves of Aster koraiensis, we conducted multiple steps of column chromatography. We isolated six triperpenoidal saponins from A. koraiensis leaves, including three unreported saponins. Their chemical structures were determined using HR-MS and NMR data analyses. Subsequently, we tested the isolates to assess their ability to impede the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus (pSARS-CoV-2) into ACE2+ H1299 cells and found that five of the six isolates displayed antiviral activity with an IC50 value below 10 μM. Notably, one unreported saponin, astersaponin J (1), blocks pSARS-CoV-2 in ACE2+ and ACE2/TMPRSS2+ cells with similar IC50 values (2.92 and 2.96 μM, respectively), without any significant toxic effect. Furthermore, our cell-to-cell fusion and SARS-CoV-2 Spike-ACE2 binding assays revealed that astersaponin J inhibits membrane fusion, thereby blocking both entry pathways of SARS-CoV-2 while leaving the interaction between the SARS-CoV-2 Spike and ACE2 unaffected. Overall, this study expands the list of antiviral saponins by introducing previously undescribed triterpenoidal saponins isolated from the leaves of A. koraiensis, thereby corroborating the potency of triterpenoid saponins in impeding SARS-CoV-2 infection.
