Austraturus carewae sp. nov. (figs. 1–2) Zoobank: https://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:F18549BB-864A-4461-936A-233948312903 Material examined. Holotype male (NMV), McCrae Creek, Victoria, Australia, 37.81729219 S, 145.5059157 E, 14 November 2018, leg. C. Kellar and K. Stevenson (sequenced; BOLD: AFWM084-21). Diagnosis. A pair of enlarged setae on the dorsal posteromedial plate placed close and laterally to the anterior pair of glandularia, posterior margin of posteromedial plate with a rounded extension; tips of Cx-I bluntly pointed; P-2 with three stout denticles; IV-L-4 ventral margin with a rounded extension in the proximal part, bearing six setae of which the anterior is long and stout. Description. Male: idiosoma dorsally 347 long and 305 wide, ventrally 430 long. Ventral and dorsal shield with a colour pattern as illustrated in fig. 2A–B. Frontal margin rounded; dorsum with paired anteromedial plates, an unpaired posteromedial plate and two paired lateral plates. Anterolateral dorsal platelets with two pairs of glandularia, posterolateral dorsal plates with one pair of glandularia without enlarged setae. Posteromedial plate with only the anterior pair of glandularia with enlarged setae; posterior margin with a somewhat broad and rounded extension. Gnathosomal bay 101 long, tips of Cx-I bluntly pointed, coxae fused to ventral shield, suture lines lightly visible. Glandularia of Cx-IV closer to posterior margin than to anterior margin. Near anterior end of gonopore two pairs of glandularia, the anterior pair closer to each other than posterior pair. Genital field with numerous acetabula, poorly visible in ventral view. Gonopore narrow, 72 long. Palp: dorsal length/height, ratio: P-1, 20/22, 0.9; P-2, 70/64, 1.1; P-3, 55/32, 1.73; P-4, 117/21, 5.5; P-5, 31/10, 3.1; P-2/P-4 length ratio 0.6. P-2 with three stout ventral denticles, P-4 slender (fig. 1C). Legs: dorsal length of I-L-2-5: 48, 58, 81, 81; dorsal length of IV-L-1-6: 59, 77, 72, 84, 83, 108. IV-L-4 ventral margin with a rounded extension in the proximal part, bearing six setae of which the anterior seta is longer and stouter (Figures 1D-E), dorsal sector concave, here with three setae; IV-L-5 ventrally with four setae. Etymology. Named after Melissa E. Carew, University of Melbourne. Discussion. The new species is most similar to Austraturus sagittalis Smit, 2018. The latter species, known from a male collected in a small creek in Queensland, differs from the new species in a broad arrow-shaped posterior extension of the posteromedial plate. While the new species’ anterior pair of glandularia of the posteromedial plate are more distanced from the associated setae, the latter’s setae are comparatively more slender. Other differences can be found in the shape of IV-L-4 and -5 (IV-L-4 ventrally with eight setae and an anteroventral extension, and more medially three setae of which the most anterior seta is the longest; IV-L-5 ventrally with six setae). Moreover, in A. sagittalis the tips of Cx-I are truncated and P-2 possesses only two stout ventral denticles (see Smit 2018). Austraturus projectus Cook, 1986, a species known from Tasmania, is somewhat similar in the shape of the posteromedial dorsal plate and its setae, but the anteromedial dorsal plates are projecting, the tips of Cx-I are truncated and P-2 has two rather stout, short ventral setae.

Smit, H. and Pešić, V. 2023. A new species of the water mite genus Austraturus K.O. Viets, 1978 from Victoria, Australia (Acari: Aturidae: Notoaturinae). Memoirs of Museum Victoria 82: 49–53. A new species of the water mite genus Austraturus K.O. Viets (Acari: Aturidae: Notoaturinae) is described, and a list of successfully barcoded Australian water mites is provided.

Hesperomomonia gracilipes sp. nov. Figs. 1A–H Material examined— Holotype ♁, dissected and slide mounted, Australia, Queensland, Little Yabba Creek, at crossing with road to Kenilworth-Maleny, 26°37.437 S, 152°41.334 E, alt. 98 m, 19-xi-2014 leg. Smit (QM). Paratypes: 1♁, 2♀, same data as holotype (RMNH), 1♀, same data as holotype, dissected and slide mounted (QM). Other material— Australia, Queensland, Conondale NP, Booloumba Creek, at crossing with Booloumba Creek Road, hyporheic, 26°38.084 S, 152°38.990 E alt. 141 m, 19-xi-2014, leg. Smit 1♁ (RMNH). Diagnosis —Large anterior dorsal plate with postocularia and two pairs of associated setae, shifted to lateral margins of the plate; large posterior dorsal plate with three pairs of associated setae; I-leg-6 relatively slender, length/height ratio 4.1 Description. General features —Dorsal and ventral shields present; eyes present but small. Dorsum with two large plates, dorsoglandularia on these plates lacking, only associated setae present. Anterior plate with postocularia and two pairs of associated setae, both shifted to lateral margins of the plate; posterior plate with three pairs of associated setae (Figures 1A, B). Lateral of these large plates two platelets with glandularia, and two platelets without glandularia or associated setae. Moreover, two pairs of minute platelets lateral of large platelets. Ventral shield undivided. Gnathosomal bay moderately long, basally rounded; suture lines of coxae obliterated. Genital field with three pairs of acetabula situated on the gonopore (Figures 1C–D). Excretory pore closer to posterior idiosoma margin than to genital field. Chelicera two-segmented (Fig. 1E). P-IV enlarged, with two strong and pointed ventral setae; P-V with a heavy terminal seta (Fig. 1F). I-leg-6 typical for the family Momoniidae, claws enlarged, folded backwards towards the segment base, dorsal clawlet pointed, ventral clawlet rounded; I-leg-5 elongated (Figs. 1 G-H). Claws of legs II-IV with large clawlet and small claw blade. Male (holotype)—Anterior dorsal plate 306 long and 411 wide; posterior dorsal plate 326 long and 397 wide. Ventral shield 684 long and 525 wide; gnathosomal bay 94 long. Gonopore small and oval, 51 long and 44 wide. Ejaculatory complex 130 long. Gnathosoma ventrally 80 long. Chelicera 109 long, basal segment 81 long, claw 23 long, length ratio basal segment/ claw ratio 3.5. Palp total length 240, dorsal length/height, ratio: P-1, 19/21, 0.9; P-2, 64/41, 1.58; P-3, 39/30, 1.29; P-4, 68/31, 2.17; P-5, 50/16, 3.21. Dorsal lengths of I-leg: 45, 73, 119, 109, 283, 152; dorsal lengths of IV-leg: 75, 89, 106, 141, 175, 167. Female (paratype)—Anterior dorsal plate 334 long and 448 wide; posterior dorsal plate 331 long and 433 wide. Ventral shield 714 long and 550 wide; gnathosomal bay 99 long. Gonopore 139 long and 122 wide, pear-shaped, each pair of three acetabula on a small platelet, these platelets 59 in length. Egg maximum diameter (n=1) 163. Gnathosoma ventrally 88 long. Chelicera 105 long, basal segment 78 long, claw 25 long, length ratio basal segment/claw ratio 3.1. Palp total length 244, dorsal length/height, ratio: P-1, 19/23, 0.82; P-2, 66/48, 1.38; P-3, 41/34, 1.18; P-4, 70/31, 2.22; P-5, 48/16, 3.1. Dorsal lengths of I-leg: 50, 78, 122, 116, 293, 153; dorsal lengths of IV-leg: 77, 92, 109, 145, 186, 174. Etymology —Named for the relatively slender first leg. Remarks — Hesperomomonia similis Smit, 2007, a species known from a single female specimen collected in the hyporheic of Hortons Creek in New South Wales (Smit 2007), differs in the position of the setae on the anterior dorsal plate with the posterior pair much closer to each other than the anterior pair, and by having two pairs of setae instead of three on the posterior dorsal plate in H.gracilipes sp. nov. We describe a new species, Teutonia corsicana sp. nov. from Corsica, France using morphological data and DNA barcodes. Morphologically the new species can be separated on the basis of the female pregenital sclerite partially covered by genital flaps, and in both sexes a broad-based, triangular ventral projection of P-2 and slender P-3 (L/H ratio 1.6-1.7). The average K2P-distance between DNA-barcode sequences of T. corsicana sp. nov. and widely distributed T. cometes (Koch, 1837) was estimated at 18.7±1.9 %. An updated key for the European species of Teutonia is provided.

Aturus bhutanensis sp. nov. Type material. Holotype male [one fourth leg missing], Chuserbu stream, Bhutan, 6 November 2021, altitude 2666 m a.s.l, 27.502465N 90.317826E, leg. M.M. Gurung (NBC) Diagnosis. Idiosoma posteriorly with a median cleft, lateral of this cleft two pairs of hyaline blade-like setae, dorsal shield posteriorly with a pair of sclerotized ridges, posterior to these ridges a row of 22—23 pairs of setae; setae of Lgl-1, Lgl-2 and Dgl-1 bifurcated. P2 distally with a large ventro-medial seta. Description. Male: Idiosoma dorsally 324 long and 288 wide, ventrally 381 long. Integument reticulated. Lgl-1 and Lgl-2 with bifurcated setae, Lgl-3 and Lgl-4 with simple setae. Posterior to the four platelets bearing the Lgl a group of small setae. Postocularia well separated on the level of Lgl-1. Dgl-1 with bifurcated setae. Posterior part of dorsal shield with a pair of sclerotized ridges, posterior to these a row of 22–23 pairs of setae; anterior to these ridges an open elliptical structure encompassing an area of non-reticulated integument. Idiosoma margin with numerous long setae, especially the most anterior of these setae larger than the more posterior setae. Posterior margin of the idiosoma with a cleft, lateral to the cleft two pairs of inflated setae, the lateral pair smaller than the central pair. Coxal suture lines incomplete. Near posterior margin of venter a row of 12–13 acetabula. Length of P1-5: 25, 55, 50, 74, 40. Near ventral margin of P2 a short, pointed seta on a short setal tubercle. Length of I-leg-4–6: 82, 85, 70. Length of IV-leg-4–6: 118, 124, 130. IV-leg-4 distoventrally with two stout, sword-like setae, ventral margin with two slender long setae; IV-leg-5 with five setae (not well visible in mounted fourth leg) and a long bifurcated seta. III-leg-5 with nine setae near ventral margin on one (lateral?) side, two longer setae on the other (medial?) side and two ventro-distal setae being the longest of all setae of the third leg. Leg claws with a clawlet. Female: Unknown. Several females have been collected on other locations, but without accompanying males. These females could not be assigned to the new species. Etymology. Named after the country from where the new species was collected. Remarks. Several Aturus species have the posterior margin with balloon-like setae as in the new species. Due to the presence of bifurcated setae of Lgl-1, Lgl-2 and Dgl-3, Aturus intermedius Protz, 1900 and Aturus caucasicus Tuzovskij, 2022 are the most similar to the new species. Though both species lack the sclerotized pair of ridges of the dorsal shield (Gerecke 2014, Tuzovskij 2022) and the row of setae posterior to these ridges. 1A-F Aturus bhutanensis sp. nov., holotype male. Arrenurus europaeus sp. nov. (Figs. 1‒5) Material examined. Holotype male, turbary Meentegat, province of Overijssel, the Netherlands, 52.77423 N 5.93243 E, 20 May 2021, leg. R. Heusinkveld (RMNH). Paratype: One male, Lake Plavno, Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, Belarus, 54.80920 N 28.42385 E, altitude 164 m a.s.l., 8 July 2015, leg. H. Smit (RMNH). Diagnosis. Lateral margins of cauda convex, cauda with distinct posterolateral extensions, posterior margin of cauda with a pair of small rounded extensions, anterior to Dgl-4 two small humps. Description. Male: Idiosoma yellowish, dorsally 1110 (1142) long and 599 (616) wide, ventrally 1069 (1118) long; height of idiosoma 551 (599). Anterior margin of idiosoma slightly indented. Dorsal shield incomplete, 401 (421) wide, passing onto ventral side of cauda. Cauda approximately 421 long, 263 (288) widest in the middle and 198 (211) wide posteriorly. Lateral margins of cauda convex, cauda with distinct posterolateral extensions. Anterior to Dgl-4 two small humps (Fig. 3). Posterior margin of cauda with two small, rounded extensions (Fig. 1). A rudimentary, drop-shaped petiole present near posterior margin of cauda. Anterior coxae not reaching anterior idiosoma margin. Coxae-III+IV well separated medially, medial margin of Cx-IV much longer than medial margin of Cx-III (Fig. 2). Gonopore 54 long, genital plates broad and extending to lateral idiosoma margin. Length of P1-5: 38, 80, 50, 88, 46. P2 anteroventrally with two setae, more medially one more seta (Fig. 4). Length of I-leg-4-6: 146, 160, 176. Length of IV-leg-4-6: 192, 186, 227; IV-leg-4 with a spur (Fig. 5). Third and fourth legs with many swimming setae. Legs claws with clawlet and a moderately sized lamella. Female: Unknown. Etymology. Named for its occurrence in Europe. Discussion. The new species is morphologically very similar to Arrenurus buccinator (Müller, 1776). The latter species is larger (usually well above 1300), the posterolateral extensions of the cauda are indistinct and the rounded extensions of the posterior margin of the cauda are larger. Moreover, the two small setae on the posterior part of the cauda are lying closer to each other compared to the new species. Arrenurus muelleri Koenike, 1901, A. inflexus Bader, 1955 and A. latigenitalis Lundblad, 1956 are of similar size but have the posterior part of the cauda truncated. Arrenurus geminus Piersig, 1901 lacks the posterolateral extensions of the cauda and the cauda has posteriorly a concavity. Arrenurus conicus Piersig, 1894 has the cauda without distinct posterolateral extensions, the cauda is more tapering posteriorly and is without humps. The species most close in shape is A. spatiosus Viets, 1919.
