Abstract

The objective of this paper is to identify the most sensitive component of a turbogenerator and optimize its availability. To achieve this, we begin by conducting an initial reliability, availability, maintainability, and dependability (RAMD) analysis on each component. Subsequently, a novel stochastic model is developed to analyze the steady‐state availability of the turbogenerator, employing a Markov birth‐death process. In this model, failure and repair rates are assumed to follow an exponential distribution and are statistically independent. To optimize the proposed stochastic model, we employ four population‐based meta‐heuristic approaches: the grey wolf optimization (GWO), the dragonfly algorithm (DA), the grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), and the whale optimization algorithm (WOA). These algorithms are utilized to find the optimal solution by iteratively improving the availability of the turbogenerator. The performance of each algorithm is evaluated in terms of system availability and execution time, allowing us to identify the most efficient algorithm for this task. Based on the numerical results, it is evident that the WOA outperforms the GWO, GOA, and DA in terms of both system availability and execution time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The prominent objective of present study is to develop an ef- ficient stochastic framework for availability evaluation of harvesting system (HS) using the concept of partial failure of subsystems. A harvesting system is very complex structure configured with four subsystems in series structure. The failure and repair laws of all subsystems are exponentially distributed. The sufficient repair facility available with system and harvesting system work as new after repair. Markovian birth-death methodology is opted for development of Chapman-Kolmogorov differential-difference equations of proposed stochastic framework. The steady state availability of HS system is derived for a particular case. Later, an effort is made to predict the optimal availability and respective optimal parameters of subsystems using metaheuristics algorithms. It is revealed that HS can attain optimal limit of availability 0.9999967 at population size 5 after 25 iterations. This study adds to the body of knowledge about harvesting systems by providing an all-encompassing viewpoint on availability optimization. Abstract

The Flying Ad hoc Network (FANET) is a special type of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) that provides communications among Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These UAVs can reduce human intervention to a great extent by giving numerous applications under different domains such as transportation, military, healthcare, traffic monitoring, surveillance, etc. In FANET, communication is relatively challenging due to its complex infrastructure, unspecified architecture and rapid mobility of nodes. The work embodied in this paper is focused on traffic surveillance of highways using UAVs. UAVs can help to reduce the number of accidents by sharing real-time as well as the accurate status of highways among vehicles and the control station. On the other hand, they can also be used to track specific vehicles on the road. In FANET, both routing protocols and mobility models play a crucial role in the process of information exchange. In this paper, the comparison and performance evaluation of two well-known reactive routing protocols viz. Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) have been carried out using highway mobility model for traffic surveillance in FANET environment. Implementation of both protocols has been tested on several traffic patterns, mobility and varying network loads. Both AODV and DSR enable significant performance variations; however, they share on-demand behavior. Packet delivery fraction, average end-to-end delay, normalized routing load, packet loss, routing overhead and throughput are used to analyze the performance of both protocols. Based on experimental analysis using NS-2 under constant bit rate (CBR) and TCP traffic sources, it can be stated that AODV outperforms DSR in almost every aspect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
