Abstract Plant stress reduction research has advanced significantly with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, such as machine learning and deep learning. This is a significant step toward sustainable agriculture. Innovative insights into the physiological responses of plants mostly crops to drought stress have been revealed through the use of complex algorithms like gradient boosting, support vector machines (SVM), recurrent neural network (RNN), and long short-term memory (LSTM), combined with a thorough examination of the TYRKC and RBR-E3 domains in stress-associated signaling proteins across a range of crop species. Modern resources were used in this study, including the UniProt protein database for crop physiochemical properties associated with specific signaling domains and the SMART database for signaling protein domains. These insights were then applied to deep learning and machine learning techniques after careful data processing. The rigorous metric evaluations and ablation analysis that typified the study’s approach highlighted the algorithms’ effectiveness and dependability in recognizing and classifying stress events. Notably, the accuracy of SVM was 82%, while gradient boosting and RNN showed 96%, and 94%, respectively and LSTM obtained an astounding 97% accuracy. The study observed these successes but also highlights the ongoing obstacles to AI adoption in agriculture, emphasizing the need for creative thinking and interdisciplinary cooperation. In addition to its scholarly value, the collected data has significant implications for improving resource efficiency, directing precision agricultural methods, and supporting global food security programs. Notably, the gradient boosting and LSTM algorithm outperformed the others with an exceptional accuracy of 96% and 97%, demonstrating their potential for accurate stress categorization. This work highlights the revolutionary potential of AI to completely disrupt the agricultural industry while simultaneously advancing our understanding of plant stress responses.

Background: Men’s engagement in maternal and child health care in the preconception health forum is essential because it allows primary prevention of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. This review aimed to identify strategies to engage men in preconception health. Materials and Methods: This scoping review was conducted from August to September 2022. The database searches included PubMed, EBSCO, and ProQuest from 2012 to 2022, related to men’s involvement in reproductive health, preconception health, family planning, maternity, and infant care; articles written in English; national (Indonesia) and international articles; and appropriate thesis. The searched keywords were man/male role, premarital, preconception, reproductive health, and fertility. Results: The electronic searches turned to 1969 articles, 16 of which met the inclusion criteria and were selected for study analysis. This review identified three themes: identifying programs that are sensitive to the limitations of men; developing community outreach strategies; and engaging management principles, policy, and legislation. Conclusions: Efforts to engage men in preconception health can be complicated, but several strategic programs have demonstrated some success. Subsequent programs that require men’s participation in preconception health services must be sensitive to the identified barriers.

Abstract Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell (PC) disorder characterized by skeletal involvement at the time of diagnosis. Recently, cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has been proven to recapitulate the heterogeneity of bone marrow (BM) disease. Our aim was to evaluate the prognostic role of cfDNA at diagnosis according to disease distribution, and to investigate the role of the MM microenvironment inflammatory state in supplying the release of cfDNA. A total of 162 newly diagnosed MM patients were screened using 18F-FDG PET/CT and assessed by ultra low-pass whole genome sequencing (ULP-WGS). High cfDNA tumor fraction (ctDNA) levels were correlated with different tumor mass markers, and patients with high ctDNA levels at diagnosis were more likely to present with metabolically active paraskeletal (PS) and extramedullary (EM) lesions. Moreover, we demonstrated that microenvironment cancer-associated fibroblast (CAFs)-mediated inflammation might correlate with high ctDNA levels. Indeed, a high cfDNA TF level at diagnosis predicted a poorer prognosis, independent of R-ISS III and 1q amplification; the inclusion of >12% ctDNA in the current R-ISS risk score enables a better identification of high-risk patients. ctDNA can be a reliable and less invasive marker for disease characterization, and can refine patient risk.

Abstract Background All pregnant mothers in Uganda are given sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP, Fansidar®) for presumptive treatment of malaria in pregnancy from 14 weeks of gestation, every four weeks, until delivery. However, prenatal mothers still fall sick of malaria. This study aimed to assess the factors associated with malaria in pregnancy among antenatal care mothers at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital. Methods This was a cross-sectional study at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital antenatal clinic from July to August 2023. Consecutive sampling was used. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic characteristics, physical examination findings and blood samples taken for rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for malaria. Abstract Understanding cellular mechanics requires evaluating the mechanical and chemical cues that regulate the actin cytoskeleton, particularly filopodia and lamellipodia. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of scaffolds properties on cell migration. The results showed that scaffolds toughness, strain, and strength played a key role in promoting cell movement by stimulating the dynamic formation of filopodia and lamellipodia. The test sample containing 3 wt% G significantly enhanced toughness, yield strength, and strain, leading to increase cell motility as well as enhanced development of longer filopodia and larger lamellipodia in MG-63 cells. These results provide valuable insights for optimizing scaffolds to promote bone tissue regeneration.

Full of paradoxes, characterized by the co-presence of contrasting realities, the territory of Termini Station is a threshold and an extreme mirror of processes that characterize in different ways the con-temporary world, a place which, through its socio-spatial morphologies, deeply and in many senses interrogates the urban dimension and the relations with other elements that compose the making of the city. Located in the heart of Rome, it is a territory in ongoing transformation, daily crossed by thou-sands of passengers and city users, while, at the same time, it is a place innervated by social margins inhabited by different populations; a place where transit, marginality, informality, control, and consump-tion intermingle. Through the words of some social workers of services for homeless people in the ter-ritory, the station area is sketched as a liquid borderland, a sea, a place of conjunction, in which, how-ever, emotional charges, memories, social and symbolic ties are projected, nuances and historical stratifications take body - deflating the classic notion of “non-place.” The station becomes a central hub of a myriad of maps marked by the routes of those who transit there, and those who, for various rea-sons, spend most of their time in the area; it becomes the center of formal and informal practices, mi-gration paths, plural geographies, and forms of belonging, illuminating a tension between different ways of practicing the same space.

Abstract Background The physiological relevance of cell-to-cell communication mediated by small extracellular vesicle-encapsulated microRNAs (sEV-miRNAs) remains debated because of the limiting representativity of specific miRNAs within the extracellular pool. We hypothesize that sEV-miRNA non-canonical function consisting of the stimulation of Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) may rely on a global shift of the sEV cargo rather than on the induction of one or few specific miRNAs. Psoriasis represents an ideal model to test such hypothesis as it is driven by overt activation of TLR7-expressing plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) following keratinocyte damage. Methods To mimic the onset of psoriasis, keratinocytes were treated with a cocktail of psoriatic cytokines or UV-irradiated. SmallRNA sequencing was performed on sEVs released by healthy and UV-treated keratinocytes. sEV-miRNAs were analyzed for nucleotide composition as well as for the presence of putative TLR7-binding triplets. Primary human pDCs where stimulated with sEVs +/- inhibitors of TLR7 (Enpatoran), of sEV release (GW4869 + manumycin) and of TLR7-mediated pDC activation (anti-BDCA-2 antibody). Secretion of type I IFNs and activation of CD8+T cells were used as readouts. qPCR on psoriatic and healthy skin biopsies was conducted to identify induced miRNAs. Results sEV-miRNAs released by damaged keratinocytes revealed a significantly higher content of TLR7-activating sequences than healthy cells. As expected, differential expression analysis confirmed the presence of miRNAs upregulated in psoriatic skin, including miR203a. More importantly, 76.5% of induced miRNAs possessed TLR7-binding features and among these we could detect several previously demonstrated TLR7 ligands. In accordance with this in silico analysis, sEVs from damaged keratinocytes recapitulated key events of psoriatic pathogenesis by triggering pDCs to release type I interferon and activate cytotoxic CD8+T cells in a TLR7- and sEV-dependent manner. Discussion Our results demonstrate that miR203a is just one paradigmatic TLR7-activating miRNA among the hundreds released by UV-irradiated keratinocytes, which altogether trigger pDC activation in psoriatic conditions. This represents the first evidence that cell damage shifts the miRNA content of sEVs towards a TLR7-activating cargo capable to propagate inflammation and immunity, offering strong support to the physiological role of systemic miRNA-based cell-to-cell communication.

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are host systems with inherent capability for inclusion complex formation with various molecular entities, mostly hydrophobic substances. Host CDs are highly accommodative to water molecules as well and usually contain water in the native state. There is still an ongoing discussion on both the total number of water molecules and their preferred binding position inside the cavities of the CDs. To understand the hydration/dehydration properties of γ-CD (the largest of the three most abundant native CDs), the main experimental methods applied in this study were differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). By coupling these techniques with density functional theory (DFT) calculations we try to shed some light on the mechanism of the γ-CD hydration and to address some unanswered questions: (i) what are the preferable locations for water molecules in the macrocyclic cavity (“hot spots”); (ii) what are the major factors contributing to the stability of the water cluster in the CD interior; (iii) what type of interactions (i.e., water–water and/or water–CD walls) contribute to the stability of the water assemble; (iv) how does the mechanism of the γ-CD hydration compare with those of its α-CD and β-CD counterparts.

Abstract Background Female Healthcare Workers (FHCWs) play a crucial role in advocating for, delivering modern contraceptive methods (MCM) to reproductive-age women and potential users. Despite the high frequency of women seeking healthcare annually, less than half receive adequate contraceptive counseling and services. Investigating FHCWs’ adherence to these practices and understanding the obstacles they encounter is essential. This study aimed to explore challenges with utilization of MCM among FHCWs at the two tertiary teaching hospitals in Northern Uganda. Methods We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study employing a qualitative approach at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor (SMHL) and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH), Northern Uganda. Qualitative data were explored using the principles of descriptive phenomenology to gain deeper insights into the experiences of twenty (20) FHCWs. Results Findings revealed various challenges faced by FHCWs, including patient barriers such as religious beliefs, contraceptive myths, fear of side effects, and provider barriers like lack of knowledge, training, and discomfort. Additionally, health system barriers like limited time and competing priorities were identified. Conclusion Female Healthcare workers experience challenges with utilization of MCM. Efforts should focus on enhancing contraceptive services, particularly in faith-based facilities and among married individuals. Besides, addressing perceived barriers at the patient, provider, and system levels through comprehensive health education, ensuring method availability, and provider training is imperative.

Abstract Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, imposes a significant health burden and live-attenuated parasites are being pursued as vaccines. Here, we report on the creation of a genetically attenuated parasite by the deletion of Plasmodium LINUP, encoding a liver stage nuclear protein. In the rodent parasite Plasmodium yoelii, LINUP expression was restricted to liver stage nuclei after the onset of liver stage schizogony. Compared to wildtype P. yoelii, P. yoelii LINUP gene deletion parasites (linup —) exhibited no phenotype in blood stages and mosquito stages but suffered developmental arrest late in liver stage schizogony with a pronounced defect in exo-erythrocytic merozoite formation. This defect caused severe attenuation of the liver stage-to-blood stage transition and immunization of mice with linup — parasites conferred robust protection against infectious sporozoite challenge. LINUP gene deletion in the human parasite Plasmodium falciparum also caused a severe defect in late liver stage differentiation. Importantly, P. falciparum linup — liver stages completely failed to transition from the liver stage to a viable blood stage infection in a humanized mouse model. These results suggest that P. falciparum LINUP is an ideal target for late liver stage attenuation that can be incorporated into a late liver stage-arresting replication competent whole parasite vaccine.

The architecture in the rural environment leaves a trail of forgotten pre-existence during depopulation processes. The anonymous practice of continuous updating that these constructions have undergone involves their enlargement and adaptation to new requirements in the sense of primary functionality, but also in the evolving ways of inhabiting. It shows an ability to update the heritage without rhetoric, presenting economic, social, and environmental sustainability. These considerations point towards an investigation of the upgrading of architecture in the rural environment as a source of action strategies in an adaptive reuse context. The methodological approach is based on a case study analysis of two intervention projects from the early 1990s in Grisons, namely the pioneering projects of Peter Märkli in Walenstadtberg in 1992/99 and Peter Zumthor in Versam in 1994. The analysis of both cases demonstrates a tectonic correlation between the spatial form development and the potential of traditional building systems. Furthermore, both cases prove the possibility of typological shifts when it comes to updating the built heritage for preservation. Finally, this study elucidates the exemplary role of both cases with respect to the renewed approaches to old and new in the context of the rural environment.

Abstract Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disorder characterized by a painful vaso-occlusive crisis due to the sickling of red blood cells in capillaries. Complications often lead to liver and renal dysfunctions, contributing to morbidity and mortality, particularly for children under 5. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the liver and renal functions of people with SCD (HbSS) compared to those without it (HbAA) in Africa. Methods The protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022346771). We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using the keywords “liver function”, “renal function”, “sickle cell disease”, and “Africa” on 6th May 2023 for peer-reviewed articles with abstracts in English. We included case-control studies comparing SCD (HbSS) with controls without hemoglobinopathies (HbAA). We used the random-effect model to calculate the pooled average values for the blood tests of people with SCD in RStudio version 4.2.2. Results Overall, 17 articles were analyzed from five African countries involving 1312 people with SCD and 1558 controls. The pooled mean difference of liver enzymes aspartate transaminase (AST) was 8.62 (95% CI − 2.99–20.23, I 2 = 97.0%, p 50%, there was substantial variation in the reported articles’ results. Abstract Introduction The aim was to evaluate the feasibility and quality of chest compressions (CCs) performed by police officers on a victim wearing a bulletproof vest as well as analyze the time taken to remove the vest. Methods Ten officers conducted two 5‐min cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) trials. Trial 1: on a dummy wearing bulletproof vest (CPR‐VEST)/Trial 2: bare‐torso dummy (CPR‐NO). Results CC's quality and the timed vest removal. Results show that CC's quality was a median of 90% in CPR‐VEST and 99% in CPR‐NO (p = 0.08). There were significantly poorer results in CPR‐VEST in CC with correct recoil (CPR‐VEST: 12%, CPR‐NO: 10%, and p = 0.04) and rate (CPR‐VEST: 82%, CPR‐NO: 97%, and p = 0.01). The bulletproof vest removal time was 9.45 ± 1.33 s. Conclusion The removal of the vest is prioritized to facilitate CPR. CC over the vest is performed with similar quality levels to standard CPR, supporting the immediate initiation of CPR in special circumstances where the vest cannot be removed.

Abstract Diabetes is a persistent health condition led by insufficient use or inappropriate use of insulin in the body. If left undetected, it can lead to further complications involving organ damage such as heart, lungs, and eyes. Timely detection of diabetes helps obtain the right medication, diet, and exercise plan to lead a healthy life. ML approach has been utilized to obtain rapid and reliable diabetes detection, however, existing approaches suffer from the use of limited datasets, lack of generalizability, and lower accuracy. This study proposes a novel feature extraction approach to overcome these limitations by using an ensemble of convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models. Multiple datasets are combined to make a larger dataset for experiments and multiple features are utilized for investigating the efficacy of the proposed approach. Features from the extra tree classifier, CNN, and LSTM are also considered for comparison. Experimental results reveal the superb performance of CNN-LSTM-based features with random forest model obtaining a 0.99 accuracy score. This performance is further validated by comparison with existing approaches and k-fold cross-validation which shows the proposed approach provides robust results.

Topical chlormethine (CL) gel formulation was approved by the EMA in 2017 for the treatment of adult patients with mycosis fungoides (MF). To expand the knowledge on the management of patients with MF, this paper provides an overview of clinical practice evidence about the MF diagnostic phase and a collection of clinical experiences to better characterize the use of CL gel in daily practice. Collected cases underline the importance of the concomitant biopsy and clinical evaluation in the diagnostic phase, with the contribution of a multidisciplinary team and support the use of CL gel as a first-line or adjuvant treatment in selected patients.

Abstract Aims The initial bundle of cares strongly affects haemodynamics and outcomes in acute decompensated heart failure cardiogenic shock (ADHF‐CS). We sought to characterize whether 24 h haemodynamic profiling provides superior prognostic information as compared with admission assessment and which haemodynamic parameters best predict in‐hospital death. Methods and results All patients with ADHF‐CS and with available admission and 24 h invasive haemodynamic assessment from two academic institutions were considered for this study. The primary endpoint was in‐hospital death. Regression analyses were run to identify relevant predictors of study outcome. We included 127 ADHF‐CS patients [65 (inter‐quartile range 52–72) years, 25.2% female]. Overall, in‐hospital mortality occurred in 26.8%. Non‐survivors were older, with greater CS severity. Among admission variables, age [odds ratio (OR) = 1.06; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02–1.11; Padj = 0.005] and CPIRAP (OR = 0.62 for 0.1 increment; 95% CI: 0.39–0.95; Padj = 0.034) were found significantly associated with in‐hospital death. Among 24 h haemodynamic univariate predictors of in‐hospital death, pulmonary elastance (PaE) was the strongest (area under the curve of 0.77; 95% CI: 0.68–0.86). Abstract Aims Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a potential useful tool to support clinical treatment of heart failure, including the setting of mechanical circulatory support (MCS). Modern Impella pumps are equipped with advanced technology (SmartAssist), enabling real‐time acquisition and display of data related to both pump performance and the patient's haemodynamic status. These data emerge as an ‘ideal’ source for data‐driven AI applications to predict the clinical course of an ongoing therapeutic protocol. Yet, no evidence of effective application of AI tools in the setting of Impella support is available. On this background, we aimed at identifying possible future applications of AI‐based tools in the setting of temporary MCS with an Impella device. Methods We explored the state of research and development at the intersection of AI and Impella support and derived future potential applications of AI in routine Impella clinical management. Results We identified different areas where the future implementation of AI tools may contribute to addressing important clinical challenges in the setting of Impella support, including (i) early identification of the best suited pathway of care according to patients' conditions at presentation and intention to treat, (ii) prediction of therapy outcomes according to different possible therapeutic actions, (iii) optimization of device implantation procedures and evaluation of proper pump position over the whole course of support and (iv) prevention and/or rationale management of haemocompatibility‐related adverse events. For each of those areas, we discuss the potential advantages, challenges and implications of harnessing AI‐driven insights in the setting of MCS with an Impella device. Conclusions Temporary MCS with an Impella device has great potential to benefit from the integration of AI‐based tools. Such tools may indeed translate into groundbreaking innovation supporting clinical decision‐making and therapy regulation, in particular in complex scenarios such as the multidevice MCS strategy.

Reverse transcription PCR detected prolonged shedding of Oropouche virus RNA in whole blood, serum, urine, and semen. Sixteen days after symptom onset, replication-competent virus was detected in semen, suggesting risk for sexual transmission.

BackgroundMyalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) presents significant challenges for affected children and adolescents, their social environment, and treating physicians, due to its profound impact on quality of life and the lack of causal therapeutic approaches. One crucial aspect of care that has been missing for these patients is comprehensive education for both them and their social circles. ObjectiveThis study protocol aims to outline the goals, study design, execution, and evaluation of the subproject within the BAYNET FOR ME/CFS project. The focus is on developing online education programs for children and adolescents with ME/CFS, as well as for their parents, siblings, and school staff. These programs are designed to improve independent disease management, increase knowledge, and promote interaction with other affected individuals. MethodsIn phase I, the group-based online education programs were developed by a multidisciplinary team based on the ModuS concept created by the Competence Network for Patient Education (KomPaS). These programs were then piloted and finalized. Phase II involved recruiting participants and implementing the finalized programs. Given the restricted physical and cognitive capacities of the affected individuals, the patient education programs were exclusively designed in a digital format to facilitate participation. In phase III, the programs will be evaluated for acceptance, completeness, and participant satisfaction. The qualitative assessment will focus on individual expectations and benefits derived from the training. Phase IV will further assess the programs in terms of improvements in disease knowledge, health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, and family burden. ResultsThe programs were developed, piloted, and finalized during phase I, which ran from December 2022 to May 2023. The pilot phase, from March to May 2023, led to adaptations in the program concept. In total, 8 patients and their parents, 5 siblings, and 59 school staff participated in the piloting. Adjustments were made to the format, content, duration, and schedule to better meet the needs of the affected individuals and their social circles. In phase II, participant recruitment for the patient education program took place from January to July 2023. The study successfully recruited 24 young patients with ME/CFS and their parents, along with 8 siblings and 51 school staff. Two program blocks for patients and parents and 2-3 blocks for siblings and school staff commenced in May 2023 and were completed within the same year. Phase III began after phase II and involves the evaluation of the programs, with the process expected to conclude by the end of 2024. Phase IV, planned for 2025-2026, will involve the rollout of the program to 150 children and their caretakers. This phase will focus on evaluating disease knowledge, health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, and family burden, as well as include longitudinal assessments. Psychological distress is widespread among university students, with depression being notably more prevalent compared to the general population. University counseling services are crucial for addressing these mental health challenges, and numerous studies have demonstrated their effectiveness in reducing psychological distress and improving overall well-being. However, there is limited research on what factors predict the success of university counseling. This study aims to evaluate whether counseling improves well-being, specifically by reducing depressive symptoms, and to explore whether personality traits influence counseling outcomes. Participants included 125 Italian university students (64.8% female, mean age = 22.69; SD = 3.04) who utilized counseling services. They completed a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Personality Inventory for DSM-5-TR (PID-5-TR) at three points: immediately after the intake interview (T0), just before the intervention (T1), and after the fourth session (T2). Linear mixed models were used to analyze changes in depression levels, revealing a significant reduction in depressive symptoms from pre- to post-intervention. Among personality traits, only antagonism showed a significant interaction with time. Additionally, higher detachment scores were associated with higher depression levels. These findings emphasize the need for focused attention on students’ emotional issues and suggest that personality traits may influence the effectiveness of counseling.

Abstract Background Plant-virus interaction models propose that a virus’s ability to infect a host genotype depends on the compatibility between virulence and resistance genes. Recently, we conducted an evolution experiment in which lineages of turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) were passaged in Arabidopsis thaliana genotypes carrying mutations in components of the DNA methylation and the histone demethylation epigenetic pathways. All evolved lineages increased infectivity, virulence and viral load in a host genotype-dependent manner. Results To better understand the underlying reasons for these evolved relationships, we delved into the transcriptomic responses of mutant and WT plant genotypes in mock conditions and infected with either the ancestral or evolved viruses. Such a comparison allowed us to classify every gene into nine basic expression profiles. Regarding the targets of viral adaptation, our analyses allowed the identification of common viral targets as well as host genotype-specific genes and categories of biological processes. As expected, immune response-related genes were found to be altered upon infection. However, we also noticed the pervasive over-representation of other functional groups, suggesting that viral adaptation was not solely driven by the level of expression of plant resistance genes. In addition, a significant association between the presence of transposable elements within or upstream the differentially expressed genes was observed. Finally, integration of transcriptomic data into a virus-host protein-protein interaction network highlighted the most impactful interactions. Conclusions These findings shed extra light on the complex dynamics between plants and viruses, indicating that viral infectivity depends on various factors beyond just the plant’s resistance genes.

Abstract Background Persistent challenges of fragmented, food safety management in low- and middle-income countries underscore the need for more robustly coordinated mechanisms. National food safety technical working groups, operating under a One Health framework, offer potential in streamlining coordination efforts to effectively address these challenges. However, more clarity regarding their formation and functioning is important for understanding how to best establish and support such groups. The aim of this study is to systematically document the development process of established groups in Vietnam and Ethiopia. Methods We assess the process used to establish and support the technical working groups against six critical success factors for multisectoral collaboration: drive change, define, design, realise, relate, and capture success. To do so, we review meeting minutes, Terms of Reference, and other related publications. Results The analysis underscores the importance of financial and technical support by development partners in initiating working groups while also highlighting the challenge posed by the absence of legal frameworks to secure government commitment. Embedding the technical working groups within existing government structures – such as One Health platforms – from the outset could help to ensure the active participation and sustainability of such groups. Conclusion Both Vietnam and Ethiopia have established operational and institutionalized technical working groups to bolster national food safety efforts under a One Health framework. The approaches employed in these countries could serve as valuable models for others seeking to establish comparable multisectoral collaborative mechanisms to address emerging health risks.

Summary: Background: Surgical care holds significant importance in healthcare, especially in low and middle-income countries, as at least 50% of the 4.2 million deaths within the initial 30 days following surgery take place in these countries. The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery proposed six indicators to enhance surgical care. In Colombia, studies have been made using secondary data. However, strategies to reduce perioperative mortality have not been implemented. This study aims to describe the fourth indicator, perioperative mortality rate (POMR), with primary data in Colombia. Methods: A multicentre prospective cohort study was conducted across 54 centres (hospitals) in Colombia. Each centre selected a 7-day recruitment period between 05/2022 and 01/2023. Inclusion criteria involved patients over 18 years of age undergoing surgical procedures in operating rooms. Data quality was ensured through a verification guideline and statistical analysis using mixed-effects multilevel modelling with a case mix analysis of mortality by procedure-related, patient-related, and hospital-related conditions. Findings: 3807 patients were included with a median age of 48 (IQR 32–64), 80.3% were classified as ASA I or II, and 27% of the procedures had a low-surgical complexity. Leading procedures were Orthopedics (19.2%) and Gynaecology/Obstetrics (17.7%). According to the Clavien–Dindo scale, postoperative complications were distributed in major complications (11.7%, 10.68–12.76) and any complication (31.6%, 30.09–33.07). POMR stood at 1.9% (1.48–2.37), with elective and emergency surgery mortalities at 0.7% (0.40–1.23) and 3% (2.3–3.89) respectively. Interpretation: The POMR was higher than the ratio reported in previous national studies, even when patients had a low–risk profile and low-complexity procedures. The present research represents significant public health progress with valuable insights for national decision-makers to improve the quality of surgical care. Este trabajo considera como desafío, encontrar los indicadores para el perfil docente del área de programación y bases de datos para optimizar la selección y escoger los docentes más aptos para el dictado de una asignatura, para ello se realizó una revisión de literatura sobre el uso de los sistemas de recomendación (SR) basados en inteligencia artificial (IA). Además se propone analizar los beneficios de los SR en entornos educativos, para personalizar su selección y mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza. El objetivo principal del trabajo es desarrollar una revisión de literatura de los SR que permitan evaluar y seleccionar el perfil de los docentes para el dictado de las asignaturas de programación y bases de datos, basándose en diversos indicadores de desempeño y características profesionales y personales. El método aplica una revisión de literatura sobre los SR y su aplicación en el campo educativo, considera tres categorías principales: filtrado colaborativo, basado en contenido e híbrido, así como otros enfoques de estudios previos. Se analiza el caso de AcademicSR de la Universidad de Milagro, que utiliza algoritmos de filtrado colaborativo para la asignación de docentes con un 98% de precisión. Los resultados de esta revisión sugieren que la implementación de SR puede mejorar significativamente la selección de profesores, optimizando el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes y formando profesionales más competentes. En conclusión, la innovación educativa mediante SR no solo es viable, sino también altamente beneficiosa para las instituciones académicas, porque contribuyen una educación más eficiente y personalizada.

The aim of the article is to analyse the impact of foreign direct investments on GDP growth and the link between the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic growth of Central and Eastern European countries. The study has shown us that there is a positive impact between foreign direct investment inflows and GDP growth, and that variables such as exports, labour productivity and unemployment rate also positively influence the development of the countries under analysis. We used a panel regression model with fixed effects, which showed us the correlation between FDI inflows and GDP growth, from which we can see that the decreases in FDI caused by the pandemic, led to a decrease in the GDP growth rate and thus in the economic development of the Central and Eastern European countries.

This paper provides an overall look on the diversity of lowland dry grasslands of the western Po Plain, useful to support their conservation and management. Specific aims were: 1) to identify lowland dry grassland-associated plant communities at alliance level, which is useful for their classification under the Council Directive 92/43/EEC, 2) to assess their synecological and synchorological differences, 3) to define the equivalent Directive habitats and their management implications. Seven subareas were analysed: Lomellina, Ticino River, Sesia River, Po River (North), Orba Stream, Scrivia Stream, and Serio River. Floristic-vegetational relevés were carried out considering vascular plant, moss and lichen species. Cluster analysis were performed to syntaxonomically classify them, while statistical tests were performed to characterize them by means of biological life forms, chorotypes and Ellenberg indicator values. Eight plant communities were classified at alliance level and three plant communities were classified at class level. The equivalence with three Natura 2000 Habitats (H2330, H6110* and H6210) was found. Of the 60 studied sites, the 68% are located inside the Natura 2000 Network, while the remnant 31% are located outside. Possible management actions include: cutting of woody species, mowing, sod-cutting, transplants of typical herbaceous species, and ex novo restoration using harvested seeds from donor grasslands.

Abstract Emergency medical services (EMSs) face critical situations that require patient risk classification based on analytical and vital signs. We aimed to establish clustering-derived phenotypes based on prehospital analytical and vital signs that allow risk stratification. This was a prospective, multicenter, EMS-delivered, ambulance-based cohort study considering six advanced life support units, 38 basic life support units, and four tertiary hospitals in Spain. Adults with unselected acute diseases managed by the EMS and evacuated with discharge priority to emergency departments were considered between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023. Prehospital point-of-care testing and on-scene vital signs were used for the unsupervised machine learning method (clustering) to determine the phenotypes. Then phenotypes were compared with the primary outcome (cumulative mortality (all-cause) at 2, 7, and 30 days). A total of 7909 patients were included. The median (IQR) age was 64 (51–80) years, 41% were women, and 26% were living in rural areas. Three clusters were identified: alpha 16.2% (1281 patients), beta 28.8% (2279), and gamma 55% (4349). The mortality rates for alpha, beta and gamma at 2 days were 18.6%, 4.1%, and 0.8%, respectively; at 7 days, were 24.7%, 6.2%, and 1.7%; and at 30 days, were 33%, 10.2%, and 3.2%, respectively. Based on standard vital signs and blood test biomarkers in the prehospital scenario, three clusters were identified: alpha (high-risk), beta and gamma (medium- and low-risk, respectively). This permits the EMS system to quickly identify patients who are potentially compromised and to proactively implement the necessary interventions.

Abstract Hard-to-reach communities represent Peru's main challenge for malaria elimination, but information about transmission in these areas is scarce. Here, we assessed Plasmodium vivax (Pv) and P. falciparum (Pf) transmission dynamics, resistance markers, and Pf hrp2/3 deletions in Nueva Jerusalén (NJ), a remote, indigenous community in the Peruvian Amazon with high population mobility. We collected samples from November 2019 to May 2020 by active (ACD) and passive case detection (PCD) in NJ. Parasites were identified with microscopy and PCR. Then, we analyzed a representative set of positive-PCR samples (Pv = 68, Pf = 58) using highly-multiplexed deep sequencing assays (AmpliSeq) and compared NJ parasites with ones from other remote Peruvian areas using population genetics indexes. The ACD intervention did not reduce malaria cases in the short term, and persistent malaria transmission was observed (at least one Pv infection was detected in 96% of the study days). In Nueva Jerusalen, the Pv population had modest genetic diversity (He = 0.27). Pf population had lower diversity (He = 0.08) and presented temporal clustering, one of these clusters linked to an outbreak in February 2020. Moreover, Pv and Pf parasites from NJ exhibited variable levels of differentiation (Pv Fst = 0.07–0.52 and Pf Fst = 0.11–0.58) with parasites from other remote areas. No artemisin resistance mutations but chloroquine (57%) and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (35–67%) were detected in NJ's Pf parasites. Moreover, pfhrp2/3 gene deletions were common (32–50% of parasites with one or both genes deleted). The persistent Pv transmission and the detection of a Pf outbreak with parasites genetically distinct from the local ones highlight the need for tailored interventions focusing on mobility patterns and imported infections in remote areas to eliminate malaria in the Peruvian Amazon.

Abstract Background The Robson Ten Groups Classification System (RTGCS) is increasingly used to assess, monitor, and compare caesarean section (CS) rates within and between healthcare facilities. We evaluated the major contributing groups to the CS rate at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) in Northern Uganda using the RTGCS. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of all deliveries from June 2019 through July 2020 at GRRH, Gulu city, Uganda. We reviewed files of mothers and collected data on sociodemographic and obstetric variables. The outcome variables were Robson Ten Groups (1–10) based on parity, gestational age, foetal presentation, number of foetuses, the onset of labour, parity and lie, and history of CS. Results We reviewed medical records of 3,183 deliveries, with a mean age of 24.6 ± 5.7 years. The overall CS rate was 13.4% (n = 427). Most participants were in RTGCS groups 3 (43.3%, n = 185) and 1 (29.2%, n = 88). The most common indication for CS was prolonged labour (41.0%, n = 175), followed by foetal distress (19.9%, n = 85) and contracted pelvis (13.6%, n = 58). Conclusion Our study showed that GRRH patients had a low-risk obstetric population dominated by mothers in groups 3 and 1, which could explain the low overall CS rate of 13.4%. However, the rates of CS among low-risk populations are alarmingly high, and this is likely to cause an increase in CS rates in the future. We recommend group-specific interventions through CS auditing to lower group-specific CS rates.

The textile industry is one of the largest water consumers, and, as a result of its activity, it generates tons of wastewater. In this research, forward osmosis has been employed to tackle the critical need of treating textile wastewater. The HFFO2 membrane (Aquaporin) was used to process large volumes of real cotton dyeing wastewater, wool dyeing wastewater, and several types of textile end-of-pipe wastewater. In all cases, the permeate flux was between 6 and 8 L·h− 1 m− 2 during the major part of the process. The recovery of clean water from each wastewater surpassed 90 %, whereas the membrane rejected more than 87 % of total dissolved solids. As a result, textile dyes were concentrated on the feed side of the membrane, which enables their recovery and potential reutilization in a subsequent dying process, along with the reclaimed water. The HFFO2 membrane was efficiently cleaned by a backwash process, restoring the initial water flux. These results indicate the suitability of forward osmosis to reuse dyes and water from textile wastewater, reducing the environmental impact of this industry and favoring its sustainability.

Molecular surveillance of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), a Malaysian teaching hospital revealed clonal replacement events of SCCmec type III-SCCmercury to SCCmec type IV strains before the year 2017; however, the reasons behind this phenomenon are still unclear. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the clonal replacement using genomic sequencing and phenotypic investigations (antibiogram profiling, growth rate and desiccation tolerance determination, survival in vancomycin sub-minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination) of representative HCTM MRSA strains isolated in four-year intervals from 2005 – 2017 (n = 16). HCTM Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies were also reviewed. Phylogenetic analyses revealed the presence of 3 major MRSA lineages: ST239-III, ST22-IV and ST6-IV; MRSAs with the same STs shared similar core and accessory genomes. Majority of the ST239-III strains isolated in earlier years of the surveillance (2005, 2009 and 2013) were resistant to many antibiotics and harboured multiple AMR and virulence genes compared to ST22-IV and ST6-IV strains (isolated in 2013 and 2017). Interestingly, ST22-IV and ST6-IV MRSAs grew significantly faster and were more resistant to desiccation than ST239-III (p < 0.05), even though the later clone survived better post-vancomycin exposure. Intriguingly, ST22-IV was outcompeted by ST239-III in broth co-cultures; though it survived better when desiccated together with ST239-III. Higher desiccation tolerance and fewer carriage of AMR genes by ST22-IV, together with reduction of antibiotic selection pressure in HCTM (due to AMS and IPC policies) during 2005 – 2017 may have provided the clone a competitive edge in replacing the previously dominant ST239-III in HCTM. This study highlights the importance of MRSA surveillance for a clearer picture of circulating clones and clonal changes. To our knowledge, this is the first genomic epidemiology study of MRSA in Malaysia, which will serve as baseline genomic data for future surveillance.

The growing global population challenges the food industry to ensure it remains safe for consumption. Food waste caused by imbalances between production and handling creates significant economic, environmental, and social risks. However, packaging technology innovation has emerged as a powerful tool, offering a solution by extending shelf life and maintaining food product quality. Consumers' increasing interest in eco-friendly packaging has driven research into renewable materials and low-toxicity bioactive components. Gallic acid, a promising phenolic compound, holds potential for food preservation and sustainable packaging development. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties against resistant microbes and biofilm formation, its ability to prevent lipid and protein oxidation, and its potential as a color indicator for monitoring food freshness all contribute to food preservation. Its incorporation into edible polymers offers a strategy for innovative edible packaging. Depending on the dosage and material composition, loading gallic acid within the polymer matrix can improve packaging properties, including UV barrier, mechanical strength, and water vapor and oxygen permeability. This article reviews the potential of gallic acid for developing biodegradable, active, intelligent, and edible packaging. Future directions include evaluating gallic acid's toxicity, dispersion within the matrix, pro-oxidative activity, compatibility with biodegradable polymers (especially those derived from agricultural by-products), migration into food products, and stability under different environmental conditions. The sustainability perspective (environment, economic, and social) is also discussed.

Carbon black (CB) is the most widely used reinforcing filler for rubber. Nowadays there are several concerns regarding this traditional petroleum-based filler: on one side its environmental footprint is enormous and its production process is no more sustainable and on the other side its price increases annually. For these reasons, sustainable alternative fillers are being studied. In the present research the main waste of the steel industry, namely the steel slag from electric arc furnace (EAF), is investigated as non-conventional filler for a nitrile butadiene rubber matrix (NBR). The slag has been characterized to ensure its safe reuse as filler according to the heavy metals leaching. The slag filled compounds have been characterized and compared to CB filled compounds, in terms of processability by rheometric parameters, mechanical properties, Payne effect, and physicochemical properties to investigate the filler-matrix interaction. From the obtained results, it was shown that EAF slag-filled NBRs are comparable to CB filled NBRs in terms of crosslink kinetics and, when compared at the same hardness level, are comparable in terms of viscosity, stiffness, and elongation at break, while when compared at the same filler volume fraction are similar in terms of compression set and stress relaxation.

Sustainability has become a global priority in recent years. The performance of companies in the market is directly influenced by their actions and the way they relate to consumers, who are increasingly looking for less environmentally aggressive products. The concept of ESG encompasses this concern with climate and environmental factors, while at the same time looking at the feasibility and operationalization of new practices. This is especially true in manufacturing sectors, such as the automotive sector, which is the subject of this study. Given the scarcity of information on who is involved in the production chain of automotive components and the possibility of production from more sustainable materials (such as the use of natural fibers), this work seeks to elucidate the gaps and opportunities for a new conception of automotive components, specifically in Brazil. Evaluating political, economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal aspects, and summarizing the data in a SWOT matrix, it identifies that the Brazilian automotive components production chain, despite its low technological level to absorb innovations, has opportunities for gains in technology development, alignment with global sustainable practices, increased competitiveness worldwide, and market positioning.

BackgroundEpilepsy management during pregnancy is crucial for both the mother and fetus. The use of antiseizure medications (ASMs) during pregnancy requires careful consideration due to their potential effects on maternal and fetal health.MethodsThis study analyzed trends in ASMs use among pregnant people in four Canadian provinces over 20 years (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Quebec). Descriptive statistics were utilized to examine the characteristics of the population, with the frequency and patterns of ASM use estimated throughout each trimester. Linear regression models were developed to analyze yearly patterns of ASM utilization for the overall study population, as well as for people with and without epilepsy.ResultsAmong 1,317,141 pregnant individuals across four provinces, 0.7% had epilepsy. Of the total pregnancies, 1.7% (n = 22,783) were exposed to ASMs, comprising 4,392 from pregnant people with epilepsy (PPWE) and 18,391 from those without epilepsy (PPWOE). Results demonstrated varying trends in ASM usage between provinces, with an overall increase in usage among people without epilepsy in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. ASM use among PPWOE surged significantly in Manitoba (24.2–149.1 per 10,000 pregnant people), Saskatchewan (29.4–107.0 per 10,000), and Alberta (65.7–241.7 per 10,000) (p < 0.05). In Alberta, PPWE’s ASM exposure also rose, from 23.6 in 2008 to 43.0 per 10,000 pregnant people in 2021, while Quebec witnessed a decrease from 59.2 in 1998 to 45.5 per 10,000 pregnancies in 2015. Analysis of ASM use by trimester illustrated a substantial decline among PPWOE from 365 days pre-pregnancy to the third trimester in all provinces. ASM utilization by drug class showcased significant shifts, with second-generation ASMs experiencing a notable rise. Carbamazepine, once prominent, declined, making way for lamotrigine. Regional variations underscore diverse preferences, such as clonazepam’s sustained popularity in Manitoba and Quebec.ConclusionThe study identified increasing trends in ASM use, particularly the increased use of second-generation ASMs, and differences in prescription patterns for pregnant individuals with and without epilepsy. These findings reveal changing ASM use patterns, including increased second-generation ASM use and regional disparities, providing valuable insights into real-world prescription practices.

Uretero-arterial fistula (UAF) is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening condition that usually manifests as hematuria. We report a new case of UAF presenting with massive bleeding and hypovolemic shock in a patient with a history of vascular prosthetic surgery and long-term ureteral stenting for urinary lithiasis. Recognizing this condition is difficult but crucial for a prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Angiography offers the highest diagnostic benefit and arterial stent-graft placement is nowadays the treatment of choice. In our patient early clinical suspicion made curative endovascular treatment possible in an effective and safe way.

Campomanesia sessiliflora (O.Berg) Mattos is a Brazilian native plant species used in a popular medicinal tea for treating gastrointestinal, urinary, and dermatological pathologies. This study evaluated the toxicity of Campomanesia sessiliflora (O.Berg) Mattos via acute and subacute toxicity tests. It also analyzed mutagenic and genotoxic potentials by the micronucleus test, which detects genetic material damage indicating mutagenicity, and the comet assay, which assesses DNA damage levels as a genotoxicity indicator. The plant extract initially originated from the ultrasonic maceration of Campomanesia sessiliflora (O.Berg) Mattos leaves in a hydroethanolic solution. The involved animals were adult Wistar rats. Ten females were available to evaluate acute toxicity and estimate the LD50, receiving a dose of 2000 mg/kg. The subacute toxicity evaluation used 35 females and 35 males divided into seven groups: negative control (saline control – SC), positive control (cyclophosphamide control – CC), 125 mg/kg (125), 250 mg/kg (250), 500 mg/kg (500), 1000 mg/kg (1000), and the satellite group (ST). Genotoxicity and mutagenicity experiments applied bone marrow micronucleus and comet assays. Acute and subacute toxicity tests did not present behavioral, physical, and physiological changes (p≥0.05). Administering the Campomanesia sessiliflora (O.Berg) Mattos extract reduced spleen size in male and female animals, without histopathological changes. However, doses above 500 mg/kg showed significant genotoxic and mutagenic effects in the comet and micronucleus assays compared to the control group. The extract did not exhibit acute or subacute toxicity, but doses higher than 500 mg/kg indicated some level of genotoxicity and mutagenicity.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to describe the pathological findings and causes of jaundice in 44 cats (Felis catus) over a six-year period. The cats were from two Brazilian metropolitan areas: 34.1% were female, 56.8% were male, and 9.1% had no information regarding their sex. Their ages ranged from 6 months to 13 years. Most of the cats examined were of a mixed breed (40/44), whereas the others were Angora (2/44), Oriental Short Hair (1/44) and Persian (1/44). All animals had mild to marked jaundice, and 39 were diagnosed with mild to marked anemia. The classification of icterus types (pre-hepatic, hepatic and post-hepatic) was based on gross and microscopic findings. Of the 44 animals, 10 were classified as pre-hepatic icterus, 33 with hepatic icterus and seven with post-hepatic icterus. In some cats, two types of icterus were found, of which five were classified as pre-hepatic and hepatic icterus, and one case was hepatic and post-hepatic icterus. According to the gross and microscopic findings, the cause of pre-hepatic icterus was idiopathic hemolytic anemia. The most frequent cause of hepatic icterus was hepatic lipidosis (26/44), followed by perihepatitis and hepatitis compatible with feline infectious peritonitis, lymphoma, glycogenic degeneration, cholangiocarcinoma and metastatic myeloid leukemia. In animals with post-hepatic icterus, the causes included cholangitis due to Platynosomum spp. infection, cholangioma of the common hepatic duct, and chronic cholangitis. Understanding the etiopathogenesis of jaundice requires an accurate clinic-pathological study and concomitant causes of the disease in cats should be considered.

Para tanto se questiona: quais são as alterações promovidas pela reforma do Ensino Médio, implementação da BNCC e BNC-Formação na formação e no trabalho docente? Desenvolvido com base em pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, indica como resultados que a BNCC é uma normativa central e articuladora da formação. Como conclusão, destaca o alinhamento da formação ao mercado, reiterando características formativas como flexibilidade, empreendedorismo, proatividade e pragmatismo. .

BackgroundIn the United Kingdom a singing intervention for Postpartum Depression (PPD) titled “Music and Motherhood” was found to be effective. The World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe coordinated a study to assess the feasibility of implementing and adapting the intervention in other countries. In Italy, recent studies have highlighted the need to promote the availability of effective interventions for PPD in primary care.AimTo describe the implementation of “Music and Motherhood” within the Italian primary care services dedicated to pregnancy and postnatal care in three different geographical locations, thus providing an example of strategies for implementing an arts and health intervention in primary care that can improve health and well-being.MethodsA 10-week group singing intervention for mothers with PPD was conducted as part of a single arm feasibility study. Data were collected through one-to-one interviews, focus groups and questionnaires from the professionals involved in the implementation and selected participating mothers. A conceptual framework including acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity, implementation process, costs and sustainability was adopted for analysis. Number of sessions attended by mothers and implementation outcome measures for acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility, each consisting of four items rated on a 5-point Likert scale were also gathered.ResultsThe intervention was found to be inclusive of women from different socio-cultural backgrounds and appropriate to the context. The group setting and the use of an arts-based intervention helped to de-medicalise the process of care maximising resources. Singing helped mothers to express their feelings and find strategies to improve interaction with their child. Attention to mothers’ needs and the co-presence of the professional singing leader and a health professional were among the key factors. The median number of sessions attended was nine out of 10. In terms of acceptability, almost 90% of the professionals were in complete agreement that they liked and approved the intervention.ConclusionOur study adds to the evidence that an arts and health intervention proven effective in one culture and linguistic context can be adapted to another. Collaboration among health professionals and artists in the implementation process and adequate funding are instrumental in moving from project to programme level.

Plant microbial fuel cells represent an innovative type of microbial fuel cell technology, utilizing plant rhizodeposition to fuel electrochemically active bacteria on the anode surface, thereby generating bioelectricity. This study delves into some botanical aspects of plant species employed in PMFCs and Constructed Wetland PMFCs, aiming to investigate whether their bioelectrical performance is influenced by Raunkiær life forms and root architecture. Our study involved 40 plant species described in 38 documents. In some cases, nomenclature issues prevented the interpretation of actual species used in the experiments. The bioelectrical performance of PMFCs appeared to be significantly affected by both life forms and root architecture. Therophytes and Hemicriptophytes exhibited higher median values than the other life forms, while the Geophyte group showed very high power density values despite a lower median value. In contrast, CW-PMFCs do not appeared to be significantly affected by the botanical traits considered, likely due to the limited data collected on this experimental configuration. The plant species that performed the best in PMFCs include Carex hirta, Alisma plantago-aquatica, Glyceria maxima and Canna indica, all of which have an adventitious root system. C. hirta, G. maxima and C. indica are geophytes, while A. plantago-aquatica is a hydrophyte. Consequently, epiphytes, chamaephytes and nanophanerophytes, as well as plants with fibrous root systems, appeared to be not recommended for PMFCs. Nevertheless, the results of our study may have certain limitation due to nomenclature issues that prevented the accurate identification of species used in the PMFCs, the absence of a standardized benchmark for electrical measurement, and the lack of clear match between each species and its bioelectrical performance, reducing the data pool.

SGIP1 encodes a protein Src homology 3-domain growth factor receptor-bound 2-like endophilin interacting protein 1. It is involved in the regulation of clathrin-mediated endocytosis along with having a role in energy homeostasis in neuronal systems. We generated an isogenic human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line with a biallelic frameshift variant in SGIP1. This exon has been shown to be subject to alternative splicing, leading to an isoform lacking 24 amino acids that are present in the longest SGIP isoform. The newly generated iPSC line will be helpful to dissect the differential properties of the two SGIP isoforms.

Matematika merupakan mata pelajaran yang memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan sehari hari sehingga perlu untuk diajarkan sedari kecil. Penilaian kemampuan matematika dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara, salah satunya adalah dengan menggunakan Trend in Intenational Mathematic Science Study (TIMSS). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan kognitif matematika Siswa kelas homogen di SMP Negeri 3 Tanjung Redeb saat mengerjakan soal TIMSS materi bilangan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah Siswa kelas VIII homogen di SMP Negeri 3 Tanjung Redeb, sedangkan sampel penelitian menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes tertulis berupa 20 soal TIMSS uraian. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah statistic deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan Siswa menjawab benar yaitu untuk kognitif pengetahuan dengan persentase 58%, kognitif penerapan dengan persentase 43% dan kognitif penalaran dengan persentase 20%. Berdasarkan hasil data tes tertulis dapat disimpulkan bahwa untuk kemampuan Siswa dominan tinggi pada kognitif pengetahuan sedangkan kemampuan Siswa dominan rendah pada kognitif penalaran.

Biliary tract cancers (BTCs) are rare and aggressive malignancies with an increasing incidence and poor prognosis. The standard systemic treatment for BTCs has evolved to include immune checkpoint inhibitors associated with gemcitabine–cisplatin as first-line therapies. However, survival rates remain low, highlighting the critical need for personalized treatment strategies based on molecular profiling. Currently, significant advancements have been made in the molecular characterization of BTCs, where genetic alterations, such as IDH1 mutations and FGFR2 fusions, provide targets for therapy. Molecular profiling is crucial early in the management process to identify potential candidates for clinical trials and guide treatment strategy. The integration of these molecular insights into clinical practice has allowed for the development of targeted therapies, although many of them are still in the phase 2 trial stage without definitive survival benefits demonstrated in phase 3 trials. This integration of comprehensive molecular profile insights with traditional treatment approaches offers a new horizon in the personalized medicine landscape for BTCs, with the aim of significantly improving patient outcomes through precision oncology.

Abstrack: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan atas dasar adanya dominasi penggunaan metode ceramah dan kurangnya penggunaan media dalam pembelajaran terkhusus materi ajar asam basa di sekolah menengah atas di kota Kisaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan dalam hasil belajar antara Model Pembelajaran Cycle 5E dan Model Pembelajaran Cycle 7E, dan perbedaan minat belajar serta untuk mengetahui bagaimana model dan minat belajar berinteraksi satu sama lain.Hasil penelitian diuji dengan ANNAVA dua jalur. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa model Kelas Pembelajaran Cycle 5E dan Kelas Pembelajaran Cycle 7E memiliki perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan. Ini ditunjukkan oleh harga Fhitung 7,046 lebih besar Ftabel 4,06, yang menunjukkan bahwa Ha diterima dan H0 ditolak.Untuk minat belajar tinggi dan minat belajar rendah, Fhitung 4,58 lebih besar dari Ftabel 4,06, menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan antara minat belajar tinggi dan minat belajar rendah. Selain itu, untuk interaksi antara model pembelajaran dengan minat belajar, Fhitung 4,078 lebih besar dari 4,06, menunjukkan bahwa ada interaksi antara model pembelajaran dengan minat belajar dan hasil belajar. Abstract: This research was carried out on the basis of the dominance of the pervasiveness of the lecture method and the lack of use of media in learning, especially in acid and base teaching materials in high schools in the city of Kisaran. The aim of this research is to ascertain whether there are differences in learning outcomes between the Cycle 5E Learning Model and the Cycle 7E Learning Model, along with differences in learning interests. In addition, the study also seeks to find out how the models and learning interests interact with each other. The research results were tested using two-way ANOVA. The results show that the Cycle 5E Learning Class and Cycle 7E Learning Class models have significant differences in learning outcomes. This is shown by the value Fcount 7.046 more than Ftable 4.06, which shows that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Meanwhile, for the learning interest, Fcount 4.58 more than Ftable 4.06 was attained, indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between high learning interest and low learning interest. In addition, for the interaction between the learning model and learning interest, Fcount 4.078 is greater than 4.06, indicating that there is an interaction between the learning model, learning interest, and learning outcomes.
