- Abstract
The severe respiratory effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have necessitated the immediate development of novel treatments. The majority of COVID-19-related fatalities are due to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Consequently, this virus causes massive and aberrant inflammatory conditions, which must be promptly managed. Severe respiratory disorders, notably ARDS and acute lung injury (ALI), may be treated safely and effectively using cell-based treatments, mostly employing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Since the high potential of these cells was identified, a great deal of research has been conducted on their use in regenerative medicine and complementary medicine. Multiple investigations have demonstrated that MSCs and their products, especially exosomes, inhibit inflammation. Exosomes serve a critical function in intercellular communication by transporting molecular cargo from donor cells to receiver cells. MSCs and their derived exosomes (MSCs/MSC-exosomes) may improve lung permeability, microbial and alveolar fluid clearance, and epithelial and endothelial repair, according to recent studies. This review focuses on COVID-19-related ARDS clinical studies involving MSCs/MSC-exosomes. 3. Effect of premature infant oral motor intervention [PIOMI] combined with music therapy on feeding progression of preterm infants: a randomized control trial.

- Abstract
Prematurity may produce long-term complications in the physical and cognitive development of infants. There is a need for interventions that can improve feeding and reduce the length of NICU stay and separation time between the infant and mother. This study aimed to explore the clinical effect of premature infant oral motor intervention [PIOMI] combined with music therapy [MT] on feeding progression in premature infants.Premature infants with gestational ages between 26 and 30 weeks were included in the study. Fifty-two participants were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. All infants received PIOMI, and the intervention group received additional MT. The participants of the two groups were compared based on weight gain, feeding progression, Preterm Oral Feeding Readiness Scale [POFRAS], milk volume, and length of hospitalization. The data were analyzed using independent sample t-tests, covariance tests, and repeated measure ANOVA used to compare three group means.The intervention group reached independent oral feeding 8 days earlier [P = .018] than the control group. Length of hospitalization was 6 days shorter [P = .224] for the intervention group, and the mean volume of milk on the 10th day was 215.38 ± 56.4 in the intervention group and 155.69 ± 68.9 in the control group, respectively [P = .001]. The mean score of the POFRAS scale on the 10th day was 28.65 ± 3.0 in the intervention groups and 20.96 ± 3.3 in the control groups, retrospectively [P = .001]. There was no difference in weight gain between the two groups [P = .522].Conclusion: PIOMI combined with MT was effective for the feeding progression of premature infants, and infants who received both these interventions were discharged sooner than control infants. 4. Combined training in addition to cortisol reduction can improve the mental health of girls with precocious puberty and obesity.

- Abstract
Background: Obesity and central precocious puberty (CPP) are associated with increased anxiety, depression, and anger in girls. The contribution of exercise as an efficacious component in decreasing anxiety, depression, and anger has been increasingly recognized., Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effects of combined training on cortisol, anxiety, depression, and anger in overweight and obese girls with CPP., Methods: The study involved 30 girls aged 7-9 years diagnosed with CPP (undergoing triptorelin treatment) and dealing with obesity. In addition, these girls scored higher than the cut-off line for anxiety, depression, and anger. The participants were divided into two groups, with 15 individuals in each group. The exercise group engaged in 60 min of combined aerobic and resistance training three times per week for a duration of 12 weeks. On the other hand, the control group did not receive any training. Throughout the study, the serum cortisol levels were measured in both groups. Anxiety, anger, and depression questionnaires were also completed at three different stages, namely, baseline, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks (after a 4-week period of detraining)., Results: In the exercise group, there was a significant decrease ( P < 0.05) in cortisol serum levels and anxiety, depression, and anger scores. These changes were observed consistently during detraining ( P > 0.05). 5. Effect of resistance training and high-intensity interval training on metabolic parameters and serum level of Sirtuin1 in postmenopausal women with metabolic syndrome: a randomized controlled trial.

- Abstract
Background: The present study analyzes the influence of resistance training (RT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on metabolic indices and serum levels of Sirtuin1 (SIRT1) in postmenopausal women who suffer from the metabolic syndrome (MetS)., Methods: 45 postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years with MetS were divided into two intervention groups (RT and HIIT) and one control group, each consisting of 15 people. The RT group performed resistance training for both the upper and lower body, while the HIIT group completed 3 min(min) of high-intensity training at 80-90% of their maximum heart rate (HRmax), followed by moderate walking for 3 min at 55-65% of HRmax. These sessions were conducted for a duration of eight weeks and three times a week, with the samples being collected at the baseline and at the end of the treatment, i.e., week 8., Results: The results showed that weight, waist circumference, body mass index, fat mass, low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride, cholesterol, fasting blood sugar (FBS), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C), systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased, and SIRT1 increased significantly in both training groups. Systolic blood pressure, cholesterol, HbA1C, and FBS decreased more in the HIIT group. Skeletal muscle mass and 1-repetition maximum (1-RM) increased more in the RT group., Conclusions: RT and HIIT serve as one of the most effective strategies for therapeutically treating patients with metabolic syndrome., Trial Registration: IRCT, IRCT20221120056548N1. 6. Ameliorative effects of aerobic training in girls with precocious puberty: role of leptin and ghrelin.

This study was an attempt to examine the changes in serum levels of ghrelin and leptin after 12-weeks of aerobic training and gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH) treatment in girls with central precocious puberty. Thirty girls (6-8 years old) with precocious puberty who had received Triptorelin were randomly divided in two groups (medication and medication + training). Fifteen age-matched healthy girls (without precocious puberty) were also included as the control group. The medication + training group submitted an aerobic training program for 3 days/week with 20-75 min per day and 45-75% of maximum heart rate for 12-weeks. Serum levels of leptin, ghrelin, cholesterol, triglycerides and body mass index (BMI) were determined at baseline and 48 h after the last training session. The results indicated that leptin significantly decreased (p = 0.001) and ghrelin significantly increased (p = 0.001) in the medication + training group but no significant difference was observed in the ghrelin (p = 1) and leptin (p = 0.78) in the medication group. Leptin to ghrelin ratio indicated a decrease in medicine + training group (p = 0.028). Ghrelin were negatively correlated with leptin and BMI. The data indicated that aerobic training increased ghrelin and reduced leptin and leptin to ghrelin ratio but GnRH agonist treatment had no effect on plasma leptin and ghrelin levels., (© 2023. - Abstract
Circulating monocytes have different subsets, including classical (CD14++CD16-), intermediate (CD14++CD16+), and nonclassical (CD14+CD16++), which play different roles in cardiovascular physiology and disease progression. The predictive value of each subset for adverse clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease is not fully understood. We sought to evaluate the prognostic efficacy of each monocyte subset in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We recruited 100 patients with STEMI who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Blood samples were collected at the time of presentation to the hospital (within 6 h from onset of symptoms, baseline (BL)) and then at 3, 6, 12, and 24 h after presentation. Monocytes were defined as CD45+/HLA-DR+ and then subdivided based on the expression of CD14, CD16, CCR2, CD11b, and CD42. The primary endpoint was a composite of all-cause death, hospitalization for heart failure, stent thrombosis, in-stent restenosis, and recurrent myocardial infarction. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models, including baseline comorbidities, were performed. The mean age of our cohort was 58.9 years and 25% of our patients were females. Patients with high levels (above the median) of CD14+CD16++ monocytes showed an increased risk for the primary endpoint in comparison to patients with low levels; adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) for CD14+/CD16++ cells was 4.3 (95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.2-14.8, p = 0.02), for CD14+/CD16++/CCR2+ cells was 3.82 (95% CI 1.06-13.7, p = 0.04), for CD14+/CD16++/CD42b+ cells was 3.37 (95% CI 1.07-10.6, p = 0.03), for CD14+/CD16++/CD11b+ was 5.17 (95% CI 1.4-18.0, p = 0.009), and for CD14+ HLA-DR+ was 7.5 (95% CI 2.0-28.5, p = 0.002). CD14++CD16-, CD14++CD16+, and their CD11b+, CCR2+, and CD42b+ aggregates were not significantly predictive for our composite endpoint. Our study shows that CD14+ CD16++ monocytes and their subsets expressing CCR2, CD42, and CD11b could be important predictors of clinical outcomes in patients with STEMI. Further studies with a larger sample size and different coronary artery disease phenotypes are needed to verify the findings.

8. Effect of Exercise and Detraining on Signs of Puberty and Selected Inflammatory Markers in Girls with Precocious Puberty.

Purpose: We examined the effects of aerobic exercise and detraining on adiponectin, resistin, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), white blood cell, and pubertal signs (uterine length, ovarian volume, luteinizing hormone [LH], and follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH]) in girls with central precocious puberty (CPP)., Methods: Thirty girls with CPP (7-9 yr old) were randomly divided into CPP and CPP + Exercise (EX) groups. Fifteen healthy age-matched girls without precocious puberty participated for comparison with CPP. Subjects in the CPP + EX group attended 12 wk of aerobic exercise protocol three sessions a week. In the baseline, after completing the exercise protocol and after 4 wk of detraining, all the parameters were measured. In the CPP and healthy groups, all the parameters were measured in all three stages. To measure adiponectin, resistin, and TNF-α, the ELISA method was used. LH and FSH were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. White blood cell counts were analyzed by an automated blood cell counter. Repeated-measures ANOVA was used to analyze the results., Results: CPP girls have lower adiponectin ( P = 0.01) and higher TNF-α levels ( P = 0.001) than healthy girls. In the CPP + EX group, after 12 wk, body weight and fat mass decreased, and adiponectin increased significantly ( P = 0.02). Resistin ( P = 0.02), TNF-α ( P = 0.02), neutrophils ( P = 0.01), and signs of puberty significantly ( P < 0.05) decreased. After detraining, no significant change was observed except TNF-α, which increased significantly ( P = 0.03). In the CPP group, no significant change was observed in any of the parameters; only LH ( P = 0.0001) and uterine length and ovarian volume ( P = 0.003, P = 0.001) decreased after 12 and 16 wk, respectively., Conclusions: Aerobic exercise can have a positive effect on the state of inflammation and pubertal signs. 9. Molecular investigation of Toxocara infection from the serum of people living with HIV in Alborz, Iran.

- Abstract
Background: Toxocara infection is one of the most common neglected infections of poverty and a helminthiasis of global importance. Traditional diagnostic methods such as antibodies detection in serum samples are limited due to cross-reactivity and poor sensitivity. The use of molecular base methods for diagnosis of Toxocara infection in Iran has not been fully explored. The purpose of the current study was to estimate the prevalence of Toxocara infection from serum samples of people living with HIV in Alborz province, Iran using serological and molecular methods., Methods: Blood samples were collected from 105 people living with HIV. Epidemiological data of participant were obtained through a structured questionnaire to investigate the risk factors. Patients CD4
+ T cell count were recorded. Anti-Toxocara IgG antibodies were detected by ELISA, with a cut-off point of 11. PCR was performed to detect genetic material of Toxocara species in the serum samples., Results: The mean CD4+ count in HIV-infected individuals with positive toxocariasis serology was 255.1 ± 21.6 cells/µL. Seropositivity for Toxocara species was observed in 12/105 (11.4%) people living with HIV. Three samples gave positive results on PCR analysis. Based on the data, a statistically significant relationship was found between anti-Toxocara IgG antibodies seropositivity and underlying conditions (p = 0.017). No significant statistical association was observed between seropositivity for Toxocara and gender, age, exposure to domestic animals or pet keeping, education levels, and occupation (p > 0.05). The findings of PCR confirmed Toxocara DNA in 3/12 (25.0%) serum samples., Conclusion: These findings demonstrated for the first time that people living with HIV from Alborz province, are being exposed to this zoonosis and a relatively high seroprevalence of Toxocara in HIV/AIDS people needs comprehensive health education regarding personal hygiene and how to avoid exposure to this parasite infection, especially in people with an impaired immune system., (© 2023. 10. The Use of Cluster Analysis by Partitioning around Medoids (PAM) to Examine the Heterogeneity of Patients with Low Back Pain within Subgroups of the Treatment Based Classification System.

Background: Current evidence in low back pain (LBP) focuses on population averages and traditional multivariate analyses to find the significant difference between variables. Such a focus actively obscured the heterogeneity and increased errors. Cluster analysis (CA) addresses the mentioned shortcomings by calculating the degree of similarity among the relevant variables of the different objects., Objective: This study aims to evaluate the agreement between the treatment-based classification (TBC) system and the equivalent 3 cluster typology created by partitioning around medoids (PAM) analysis., Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a convenient sample of 90 patients with low back pain (50 males and 40 females) aged 20 to 65 years was included in the study. The patients were selected based on the 21 criteria of 2007 TBC system. An equivalent 3 cluster typology (C3) was applied using PAM method. Cohen's Kappa was run to determine if there was agreement between the TBC system and the equivalent C3 typology., Results: PAM analysis revealed the evidence of clustering for a C3 cluster typology with average Silhouette widths of 0.12. Cohen's Kappa revealed fair agreement between the TBC system and C3 cluster typology (Percent of agreement 61%, Kappa=0.36, P <0.001). Selected criteria by PAM analysis were different with original TBC system., Conclusion: Higher probability of chance agreement was observed between two classification methods. 11. Detection of Toxocara species larvae in four Iranian free-range broiler farms.

- Abstract
Background: The epidemiology of Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati in food animals, associated products, and their zoonotic potential are poorly understood. A cross sectional study was designed to determine the prevalence of Toxocara spp. larvae from free-range broiler chickens in traditional farms using conventional techniques and molecular method. Eight-hundred tissue samples including liver, gizzard, lungs and heart were collected from 200 chickens belonging to different regions of Zanjan Province, Iran and were processed by conventional and molecular methods., Results: Out of 800 chicken tissues, 49 samples (6.1%) were positive for nematode larvae. Polymerase chain reaction was performed to identify species-specific of Toxocara larvae. The findings showed that 10.5% (21 out of 200) chickens were infected with Toxocara species, so that 57.1% (12 out of 21) of the samples were positive for Toxocara canis and 42.9% (9 out of 21) of the samples were positive for Toxocara cati., Conclusion: Considering the significant contamination/infection of free-range broiler chickens with Toxocara larvae, the consumption of chicken meat and viscera, especially liver and gizzards, can play an important role in the transmission of infection to humans. 12. Sensitive colorimetric detection of miRNA-155 via G-quadruplex DNAzyme decorated spherical nucleic acid.

- Abstract
Rapid and sensitive detection of biomarkers enables monitoring patients' health status and can enhance the early diagnosis of deadly diseases. In this work, we have developed a new colorimetric platform based on spherical nucleic acid (SNA) and G-quadruplex DNAzymes for the identification of specific miRNAs. The simple hybridization between the target miRNA and two capture probes (capture probe 1 located at AuNP surface and free capture probe 2) is the working principle of this biosensor. The hybridization and duplex formation among probes and miRNAs led to a significant decrease in the intensity of color change. A linear relationship between the decrease of colorimetric signal and the amount of target molecules was witnessed from 1 to 100 nM for miRNA-155. Using this method, we were able to detect concentrations of miRNA-155 as low as 0.7 nM. Furthermore, the proposed sensing platform can be utilized profitably to detect miRNA-155 in real human serum samples. We further investigated the applicability of the proposed method in a microfluidic system which displayed promising results. In this project, A G-quadruplex based SNAzyme was constructed to provide a fast and simple colorimetric method for miRNA detection. - Abstract
Background: Toxocara cati, the cat roundworm, is a parasitic nematode that known to cause toxocariasis in intermediate hosts and humans. In this study, we characterized the dynamics of T. cati larvae migration in BALB/c mice after inoculation with eggs and ensured the migration detecting the larval DNA by a PCR. To evaluate the dynamics of larval migration and distribution, twenty-four BALB/c mice were orally inoculated with 2500 T. cati infective eggs and the visceral organs of the infected animals were examined by pepsin digestion and microscopic parasite counts, followed by PCR at day 1 to 28 post-inoculation., Results: The PCR assays were successfully used for detection of T. cati larvae in tissue samples and T. cati larvae and the DNAs were found in the liver, lungs, heart, kidneys and the brain. We detected T. cati in 92.2% of tissue samples by PCR, 30% higher than the conventional pepsin digestion technique., Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that the PCR assay is a sensitive and specific for the detection of T. cati larvae. Therefore, it could become a useful tool for the investigation of the dynamics of larval migration and Toxocara infection in murine model., (© 2022. The Author(s).)

14. Utilization of Carbon-Based Nanomaterials and Plate-Fin Networks in a Cold PCM Container with Application in Air Conditioning of Buildings.

- Abstract
Cold energy storage devices are widely used for coping with the mismatch between thermal energy production and demand. These devices can store cold thermal energy and return it when required. Besides the countless advantages of these devices, their freezing rate is sluggish, therefore researchers are continuously searching for techniques to improve their operating speed. This paper tries to address this problem by simultaneously combining a network of plate fins and various types of carbon-based nanomaterials (NMs) in a series of complex computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations that are validated by published experimental results. Horizontal, vertical, and the combination of these two plate-fin arrangements are tested and compared to the base model. Subsequently, several carbon-based NMs, including SWCNT, MWCNT, and graphene-oxide NMs are utilized to further improve the process. The influence of these fin networks, nanoparticle types, and their volume- and mass-based concentrations within the PCM container are studied and discussed. According to the results, carbon-based NMs exhibit superior performance compared to metal-oxide NMs, so that at identical NM volume and mass fractions, MWCNT particles present a 2.77% and 17.72% faster freezing rate than the CuO particles. The combination of plate-fin network and MWCNT particles is a promising technique that can expedite the ice formation rate by up to 70.14%.

- Abstract
Mushrooms in the genus Ganoderma have been collected and used as medicine since ancient times. However, commercial basidiome production has only recently been achieved. The solid substrates for basidiome production usually consist of lignocellulosic materials as the major component and the supplements (e.g., different types of bran and flour) as the minor segment. Research on substrates for solid-state fermentation with the purpose of basidiome production has focused on investigating locally available agrowaste materials, and their suitability is judged by the economic outputs. This review summarizes the formulations of the substrates and discusses their effects on the yield of basidiome or its bioactive compounds. Through a comprehensive look, this review concludes that future research focused on various treatments to modulate extracellular enzyme production may bring more options to the table for innovative solid substrate formulation.

- Abstract
Myocardial strain has shown tremendous promise as a potential diagnostic tool for characterizing ventricular function. With regards to myocardial infarction, global circumferential strain (CS) can be used to assess overall function, while regional CS can identify local alterations in contractility. Currently, there is a lack of data related to regional strain in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Thus, the goal of this study was to quantify regional strain patterns in STEMI and normal control patients, measuring both peak CS and end-systolic (ES) CS in the mid-ventricular region. This was done by conducting cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging acutely after STEMI patients underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention. The CMR datasets were then analyzed using feature-tracking of the cine images. The patients were broken into three groups: (1) control patients (N = 18), (2) STEMI patients with ejection fraction (EF) ≥ 50% (N = 20), and (3) STEMI patients with EF < 50% (N = 20). The key result of the analysis was that ES CS detected a significant increase in the magnitude of strain in the non-infarcted tissue of STEMI patients with EF ≥ 50% when compared to STEMI patients with EF < 50%, whereas peak CS did not detect any differences. This implies that the tissue in this region is contracting more strongly compared to non-infarcted tissue in STEMI patients with EF < 50%. Thus, regional ES CS could potentially be utilized as a diagnostic tool for assessing STEMI patients, by detecting regional changes in contractility after PCI, which could assist in treatment planning., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
Background: The prevalence of precocious puberty is increasing. Obesity has been demonstrated to be associated with changes in the adipokine profile and incidence of early puberty in girls. This study assessed the pubertal signs, the levels of adiponectin, resistin, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) after 12 weeks of combined exercise and 4 weeks of detraining in overweight and obese girls with precocious puberty., Methods: Thirty overweight and obese girls (aged 7-9) with precocious puberty, who had received Triptorelin, were randomly divided into two groups (15 exercise and 15 control). Initially, serum levels of adiponectin, resistin, TNF-α, luteinising hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and the signs of puberty progression (bone age, uterine length, and ovarian volume) were measured. The exercise group performed 60 min of combined (aerobic and resistance) exercise three times/week for 12 weeks. The control group did not receive any exercise. 48 h after the last training session and after 4 weeks of detraining, all research variables were measured (also in the control group). The statistical method used for data analysis was repeated measures ANOVA., Results: In the exercise group, adiponectin significantly increased and resistin significantly decreased after 12 weeks. After 4 weeks of detraining, adiponectin significantly decreased, but resistin significantly increased. TNF-α levels did not change significantly during the study. There was no significant difference in all of the factors in the control group. Throughout the 16-week study period, the rate of puberty and LH significantly decreased in both exercise and control groups, but FSH, LH/FSH and ovarian volume significantly decreased in the exercise group alone (P<0.05)., Conclusions: Combined exercise increased adiponectin and decreased resistin and the rate of puberty. However, after 4 weeks of detraining, these effects diminished but did not disappear., Trial Registration: IRCT, IRCT56471.
