Recent advancements in the Internet of Things and Machine Learning techniques have allowed the deployment of sensors on a large scale to monitor the environment and model and predict individual thermal comfort. The existing techniques have a greater focus on occupancy detection, estimations, and localization to balance energy usage and thermal comfort satisfaction. Different sensors, actuators, and analytic data methods are often non-invasively utilized to analyze data from occupant surroundings, identify occupant existence, estimate their numbers, and trigger the necessary action to complete a task. The efficiency of the non-invasive strategies documented in the literature, on the other hand, is rather poor due to the low quality of the datasets utilized in model training and the selection of machine learning technology. This study combines data from camera and environmental sensing using interactive learning and a rule-based classifier to improve the collection and quality of the datasets and data pre-processing. The study compiles a new comprehensive public set of training datasets for building occupancy profile prediction with over 40,000 records. To the best of our knowledge, it is the largest dataset to date, with the most realistic and challenging setting in building occupancy prediction. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that attained a robust occupancy count by considering a multimodal input to a single output regression model through the mining and mapping of feature importance, which has advantages over statistical approaches. The proposed solution is tested in a living room with a prototype system integrated with various sensors to obtain occupant-surrounding environmental datasets. The model’s prediction results indicate that the proposed solution can obtain data, and process and predict the occupants’ presence and their number with high accuracy values of 99.7% and 99.35%, respectively, using random forest.

This study introduces a data-driven and machine-learning approach to design a personalized tourist recommendation system for Nepal. It examines key tourist attributes, such as demographics, behaviors, preferences, and satisfaction, to develop four sub-models for data collection and machine learning. A structured survey is conducted with 2400 international and domestic tourists, featuring 28 major questions and 125 variables. The data are preprocessed, and significant features are extracted to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the machine-learning models. These models are evaluated using metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F-score, ROC, and lift curves. A comprehensive database for Pokhara City, Nepal, is developed from various sources that includes attributes such as location, cost, popularity, rating, ranking, and trend. The machine-learning models provide intermediate categorical recommendations, which are further mapped using a personalized recommender algorithm. This algorithm makes decisions based on weights assigned to each decision attribute to make the final recommendations. The system’s performance is compared with other popular recommender systems implemented by TripAdvisor, Google Maps, the Nepal tourism website, and others. It is found that the proposed system surpasses existing ones, offering more accurate and optimized recommendations to visitors in Pokhara. This study is a pioneering one and holds significant implications for the tourism industry and the governing sector of Nepal in enhancing the overall tourism business.

Analysis of a bipartite (two-mode) network is a significant research area to understand the formation of social communities, economic systems, drug side effect topology, etc. in complex information systems. Most of the previous works talk about a projection-based model or latent feature model, which predicts the link based on singular similarity. The projection-based models suffer from the loss of structural information in the projected network and the latent feature is hardly present. This work proposes a novel method for link prediction in the bipartite network based on an ensemble of composite similarities, overcoming the issues of modelbased and latent feature models. The proposed method analyzes the structure, neighborhood nodes as well as latent attributes between the nodes to predict the link in the network. To illustrate the proposed method, experiments are performed with five real-world data sets and compared with various state-of-art link prediction methods and it is inferred that this method outperforms with ~3% to ~9% higher using area under the precision-recall curve (AUC-PR) measure. This work holds great significance in the study of biological networks, e-commerce networks, complex web-based systems, networks of drug binding, enzyme protein, and other related networks in understanding the formation of such complex networks. Further, this study helps in link prediction and its usability for different purposes ranging from building intelligent systems to providing services in big data and web-based systems. Forecasting on success or failure of software has become an interesting and, in fact, an essential task in the software development industry. In order to explore the latest data on successes and failures, this research focused on certain questions such as is early phase of the software development life cycle better than later phases in predicting software success and avoiding high rework? What human factors contribute to success or failure of a software? What software practices are used by the industry practitioners to achieve high quality of software in their day-to-day work? In order to conduct this empirical analysis a total of 104 practitioners were recruited to determine how human factors, misinterpretation, and miscommunication of requirements and decision-making processes play their roles in software success forecasting. We discussed a potential relationship between forecasting of software success or failure and the development processes. We noticed that experienced participants had more confidence in their practices and responded to the questionnaire in this empirical study, and they were more likely to rate software success forecasting linking to the development processes. Our analysis also shows that cognitive bias is the central human factor that negatively affects forecasting of software success rate. The results of this empirical study also validated that requirements' misinterpretation and miscommunication were themain causes behind software systems' failure. It has been seen that reliable, relevant, and trustworthy sources of information help in decision-making to predict software systems' success in the software industry. This empirical study highlights a need for other software practitioners to avoid such bias while working on software projects. Artificial intelligent based dialog systems are getting attention from both business and academic communities. The key parts for such intelligent chatbot systems are domain classification, intent detection, and named entity recognition. Various supervised, unsupervised, and hybrid approaches are used to detect each field. Such intelligent systems, also called natural language understanding systems analyze user requests in sequential order: domain classification, intent, and entity recognition based on the semantic rules of the classified domain. This sequential approach propagates the downstream error; i.e., if the domain classification model fails to classify the domain, intent and entity recognition fail. Furthermore, training such intelligent system necessitates a large number of user-annotated datasets for each domain. This study proposes a single joint predictive deep neural network framework based on long short-term memory using only a small user-annotated dataset to address these issues. It investigates value added by incorporating unlabeled data from user chatting logs into multi-domain spoken language understanding systems. Systematic experimental analysis of the proposed joint frameworks, along with the semi-supervised multi-domain model, using open-source annotated and unannotated utterances shows robust improvement in the predictive performance of the proposed multi-domain intelligent chatbot over a base joint model and joint model based on adversarial learning. This paper presents a review of the ensemble learning models proposed for web services classification, selection, and composition. Web service is an evolutionary research area, and ensemble learning has become a hot spot to assess web services' earlier mentioned aspects. The proposed research aims to review the state of art approaches performed on the interesting web services area. The literature on the research topic is examined using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) as a research method. The study reveals an increasing trend of using ensemble learning in the chosen papers within the last ten years. Naïve Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine' (SVM), and other classifiers were identified as widely explored in selected studies. Core analysis of web services classification suggests that web services' performance aspects can be investigated in future works. Natural Language Understanding and Speech Understanding systems are now a global trend, and with the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, have drawn attention from both the academic and business communities. Domain prediction, intent detection and entity extraction or slot fillings are the most important parts for such intelligent systems. Various traditional machine learning algorithms such as Bayesian algorithm, Support Vector Machine, and Artificial Neural Network, along with recent Deep Neural Network techniques, are used to predict domain, intent, and entity. Most language understanding systems process user input in a sequential order: domain is first predicted, then intent and slots are filled according to the semantic frames of the predicted domain. This pipeline approach, however, has many disadvantages including downstream error; i.e., if the system fails to predict the domain, then the system also fails to predict intent and slot. The main purpose of this paper is to mitigate the risk of downstream error propagation in traditional pipelined models and improve the predictive performance of domain, intent, and slot- all of which are critical steps for speech understanding and dialog systems- with a deep learning-based single joint model trained with an adversarial approach and long shortterm memory (LSTM) algorithm. The systematic experimental analysis shows significant improvements in predictive performance for domain, intent, and entity with the proposed adversarial joint model, compared to the base joint model. Web systems evolve by adding new functionalities or modifying them to meet users’ requirements. Web systems require retesting to ensure that existing functionalities are according to users’ expectations. Retesting a web system is challenging due to high cost and time consumption. Existing ‘systematic literature review’ (SLR) studies do not comprehensively present the ontology-based regression testing approaches. Therefore, this study focuses on ontology-based regression testing approaches because ontologies have been a growing research solution in regression testing. Following this, a systematic search of studies was performed using the “Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses” (PRISMA) guidelines. A total of 24 peer-reviewed studies covering ontologies (semantic and inference rules) and regression testing, published between 2007 and 2019, were selected. The results showed that mainly ontology-based regression testing approaches were published in 2011–2012 and 2019 because ontology got momentum in research in other fields of study during these years. Furthermore, seven challenges to ontology-driven regression testing approaches are reported in the selected studies. Cost and validation are the main challenges examined in the research studies. The scalability of regression testing approaches has been identified as a common problem for ontology-based and other benchmark regression testing approaches. This SLR presents that the safety of critical systems is a possible future research direction to prevent human life risks.
