The downward trend in the number of fatalities and serious injuries related to road accidents depends on the implementation of increasingly performing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the circulating fleet. The greatest benefit of the adoption of ADASs like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) consists in limiting the frequency of impacts. However, in Inevitable Collision States (ICSs), the decrease in impact closing speed guaranteed by the AEB may not reduce the Injury Risk (IR) for the occupants: IR is a function of the vehicle's velocity change in the collision ( Δ V ) – a combination of impact closing speed and impact eccentricity. The work virtually analyses, in lane departure ICS scenarios, the performance of an adaptive steering and braking intervention logic based on instantaneous IR minimization. The adaptive logic reduces IR compared to the absence of intervention (down to 80 times lower) and to the AEB (down to 40 times lower) by leading the ego vehicle toward eccentric impact configurations. It is highlighted that full activation of the steer-by-wire system in 0.3 s allows the adaptive logic to also reduce the frequency of impacts; it is further evidenced that employing a function capable of modulating the braking level to minimize IR entails disadvantages from the IR perspective compared to the AEB: efficient intervention strategies on the steering are the only alternative for increasing the safety provided by high-performance ADASs. Purpose: To develop an inline automatic quality control to achieve consistent diagnostic image quality with subject‐specific scan time, and to demonstrate this method for 2D phase‐contrast flow MRI to reach a predetermined SNR. Methods: We designed a closed‐loop feedback framework between image reconstruction and data acquisition to intermittently check SNR (every 20 s) and automatically stop the acquisition when a target SNR is achieved. A free‐breathing 2D pseudo‐golden‐angle spiral phase‐contrast sequence was modified to listen for image‐quality messages from the reconstructions. Ten healthy volunteers and 1 patient were imaged at 0.55 T. Target SNR was selected based on retrospective analysis of cardiac output error, and performance of the automatic SNR‐driven "stop" was assessed inline. Results: SNR calculation and automated segmentation was feasible within 20 s with inline deployment. The SNR‐driven acquisition time was 2 min 39 s ± 67 s (aorta) and 3 min ± 80 s (main pulmonary artery) with a min/max acquisition time of 1 min 43 s/4 min 52 s (aorta) and 1 min 43 s/5 min 50 s (main pulmonary artery) across 6 healthy volunteers, while ensuring a diagnostic measurement with relative absolute error in quantitative flow measurement lower than 2.1% (aorta) and 6.3% (main pulmonary artery). Conclusion: The inline quality control enables subject‐specific optimized scan times while ensuring consistent diagnostic image quality. PURPOSE. The aim of this prospective clinical study was to compare the influence of palatal vault forms on accuracy and speed of intraoral (IO) scans in completely edentulous cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Based on the palatal vault form, participants were divided into three equal groups (n = 10 each); Class I: moderate; Class II: deep; Class III: flat palatal vault. A reference model was created for each patient using polyvinylsiloxane impression material. The poured models were digitized using an extraoral scanner. The resultant data were imported as a solid CAD file into 3D analysis software (GOM Inspect 2018; Gom GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany) and aligned using the software's coordinate system to determine its X, Y, and Z axes. Five digital impressions (DIs) of maxilla were captured for each patient using an intraoral scanner (TRIOS; 3Shape A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark) and the resultant Standard Tessellation Language (STL) scan files served as test models. Trueness was evaluated by calculating arithmetic mean deviation (AMD) of the vault area between reference and test files while precision was evaluated by calculating AMD between captured scans to measure repeatability of scan acquisition. The scan time taken for each participant was also recorded. RESULTS. There was no significant difference in trueness and precision among the groups (P = .806 and .950, respectively). Average scan time for Class I and III palatal vaults was 1 min 13 seconds and 1 min 37 seconds, respectively, while class II deep palatal vaults showed the highest scan time of 5 mins. CONCLUSION. Palatal vault form in edentulous cases has an influence on scan time. However, it does not have a substantial impact on the accuracy of the acquired scans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of 11C-CFT PET brain imaging in Parkinson’s Disease using a total-body PET/CT scanner and explore the optimal scan duration to guide the clinical practice. Methods Thirty-two patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) performing 11C-CFT PET/CT brain imaging using a total-body PET/CT scanner were retrospectively enrolled. The PET data acquired over a period of 900 s were reconstructed into groups of different durations: 900-s, 720-s, 600-s, 480-s, 300-s, 180-s, 120-s, 60-s, and 30-s (G900 to G30). The subjective image quality analysis was performed using 5-point scales. Semi-quantitative measurements were analyzed by SUVmean and dopamine transporter (DAT) binding of key brain regions implicated in PD, including the caudate nucleus and putamen. The full-time images (G900) were served as reference. Results The overall G900, G720, and G600 image quality scores were 5.0 ± 0.0, 5.0 ± 0.0, and 4.9 ± 0.3 points, respectively, and there was no significant difference among these groups (P > 0.05). Individual marking techniques are critical for studying animals, especially in the wild. Current marking methods for bats (Order Chiroptera) have practical limitations and some can cause morbidity. We tested the p-Chip (p-Chip Corp.)—a miniaturized, laser light-activated microtransponder—as a prospective marking technique in a captive research colony of Big Brown Bats (Eptesicus fuscus). We assessed long-term readability and postimplantation effects of p-Chips injected subcutaneously above the second metacarpal (wing; n = 30) and the tibia (leg; n = 13 in both locations). Following implantation (Day 0), p-Chips were scanned with a hand-held ID reader (wand) on postimplantation days (PIDs) 1, 8, 15, 22, 32, 60, 74, 81, 88, 95, and over 1 year later (PID 464). For each trial, we recorded: (1) animal handling time; (2) scan time; (3) number of wand flashes; (4) p-Chip visibility; and (5) overall condition of the bat. Average scan times for p-Chips implanted in both the wing and leg increased over the duration of the study; however, the number of wand flashes decreased, suggesting that efficacy of p-Chip recording increased with user experience. Importantly, over 464 days both the visibility and readability of p-Chips in the wing remained high and superior to tags in the leg, establishing the second metacarpal as the preferred implantation site. Observed morbidity and mortality in captive bats with p-Chips was similar to baseline values for bats without these tags. Because scan efficiency on PID 464 was comparable with earlier days, this indicates that p-Chips implanted in the wing may be suitable as a long-term marking method. Our provisional results suggest that p-Chips are viable for extended field testing to see if they are suitable as an effective alternative to traditional methods to mark bats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Moreover, the changes in the lesion DAT binding (ΔDAT-binding) between the full-time reference G900 image and other reconstructed group G720 to G30 images generally increased along with the reduced scan time. Conclusion: Sufficient image quality and lesion conspicuity could be achieved at 600-s scan duration for 11C-CFT PET brain imaging in PD assessment using a total-body PET/CT scanner, while the image quality of G300 was acceptable to meet clinical diagnosis, contributing to improve patient compliance and throughput of PET brain imaging. Abstract Background Conventional clinical PET scanners typically have an axial field of view (AFOV) of 15–30 cm, resulting in limited coverage and relatively low photon detection efficiency. Taking advantage of the development of long-axial PET/CT, the uEXPLORER PET/CT scanner with an axial coverage of 194 cm increases the effective count rate by approximately 40 times compared to that of conventional PET scanners. Ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) is the most widely used iterative algorithm in PET. The major drawback of OSEM is that the iteration process must be stopped before convergence to avoid image degradation due to excessive noise. A new Bayesian penalized-likelihood iterative PET reconstruction, named HYPER iterative, was developed and is now available on the uEXPLORER total-body PET/CT, which incorporates a noise control component by using a penalty function in each iteration and finds the maximum likelihood solution through repeated iterations. To date, its impact on lesion visibility in patients with a full injected dose or half injected dose is unclear. The goal of this study was to determine a proper protocol for routine 18F-FDG uEXPLORER total-body PET/CT scans. Results The uEXPLORER total-body PET/CT images reconstructed using both OSEM and HYPER iterative algorithms of 20 tumour patients were retrospectively reviewed. The quality of the 5 min PET image was excellent (score 5) for all of the dose and reconstruction methods. Using the HYPER iterative method, the PET images reached excellent quality at 1 min with full-dose PET and at 2 min with half-dose PET. The PET image reached a similar excellent quality at 2 min with a full dose and at 3 min with a half dose using OSEM. The noise in the OSEM reconstruction was higher than that in the HYPER iterative. Compared to OSEM, the HYPER iterative had a slightly higher SUVmax and TBR of the lesions for large positive lesions (≥ 2 cm) (SUVmax: up to 9.03% higher in full dose and up to 12.52% higher in half dose; TBR: up to 8.69% higher in full dose and up to 23.39% higher in half dose). For small positive lesions (≤ 10 mm), the HYPER iterative had an obviously higher SUVmax and TBR of the lesions (SUVmax: up to 45.21% higher in full dose and up to 74.96% higher in half dose; TBR: up to 44.91% higher in full dose and up to 93.73% higher in half dose). Conclusions A 1 min scan with a full dose and a 2 min scan with a half dose are optimal for clinical diagnosis using the HYPER iterative and 2 min and 3 min for OSEM. For quantification of the small lesions, HYPER iterative reconstruction is preferred.

Purpose : Monoclonal antibody (mAb)-based PET (immunoPET) imaging can characterise tumour lesions non-invasively. It may be a valuable tool to determine which patients may benefit from treatment with a specific monoclonal antibody (mAb) and evaluate treatment response. For 89Zr immunoPET imaging, higher sensitivity of state-of-the art PET/CT systems equipped with silicon photomultiplier (SiPM)-based detector elements may be beneficial as the low positron abundance of 89Zr causes a low signal-to-noise level. Moreover, the long physical half-life limits the amount of activity that can be administered to the patients leading to poor image quality even when using long scan durations. Here, we investigated the difference in semiquantitative performance between the PMT-based Biograph mCT, our clinical reference system, and the SiPM-based Biograph Vision PET/CT in 89Zr immunoPET imaging. Furthermore, the effects of scan duration reduction using the Vision on semiquantitative imaging parameters and its influence on image quality assessment were evaluated. Methods: Data were acquired on day 4 post 37 MBq 89Zr-labelled mAb injection. Five patients underwent a double scan protocol on both systems. Ten patients were scanned only on the Vision. For PET image reconstruction, three protocols were used, i.e. one camera-dependent protocol and European Association of Nuclear Medicine Research Limited (EARL) standards 1 and 2 compliant protocols. Vision data were acquired in listmode and were reprocessed to obtain images at shorter scan durations. Semiquantitative PET image parameters were derived from tumour lesions and healthy tissues to assess differences between systems and scan durations. Differently reconstructed images obtained using the Vision were visually scored regarding image quality by two nuclear medicine physicians. Results: When images were reconstructed using 100% acquisition time on both systems following EARL standard 1 compliant reconstruction protocols, results regarding semiquantification were comparable. For Vision data, reconstructed images that conform to EARL1 standards still resulted in comparable semiquantification at shorter scan durations (75% and 50%) regarding 100% acquisition time. Conclusion: Scan duration of 89Zr immunoPET imaging using the Vision can be decreased up to 50% compared with using the mCT while maintaining image quality using the EARL1 compliant reconstruction protocol. Powerful advantages of programmable logic controller (PLC) dominate process industries. Scan time of PLC increases with the number of inputs, rungs added in ladder diagram (LD). Researchers have identified and proved that field programmable gate array (FPGA) is more suitable than PLC for high speed applications. PLC executes the instructions represented through LD. PLC programmers are not familiar with FPGA programming. But, FPGA does not support LD based programming. This work has developed application software to generate equivalent VerilogHDL code for LD using LabVIEW. Novelty in this work is that each rung is defined using an "assign" statement which helps simultaneous execution of all the rungs. A data acquisition system was created to monitor the digital signals handled by the FPGA. The software was verified with a case study of substances mixing and traffic light control system. Introduction: This study evaluates scan time reduction using time-of-flight (TOF) PET, when quantitative parameters including volumetric measures are considered. Methods: 32 patients were included in the study. The reconstruction parameters for TOF were 2 iterations, 18 and 24 subsets, and for non-TOF was 3 iterations and 18 subsets. A post smoothing filter with FWHM of 5.4 mm and 6.4 mm were used for TOF and 6.4 mm for non-TOF. TOF reconstruction was performed with 2, 2.5 and 3 min/bed position, and 3 min/bed position scan time was applied in non-TOF. Quantitative parameters such as coefficient of variation (COV), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), lesion-to-background ratio (LBR), metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) were utilized. Standard uptake value (SUV) was also measured. Different segmentation thresholds were studied. Results: Improvement in SNR for TOF relative to non-TOF was observed when utilizing 18 subsets, 5.4 mm filter size with 3 min scan time/bed position (Pvalue< 0.0001), and for 18 subsets, 6.4 mm filter size when 2.5- and 3-min scan time/bed positions was applied (P-value≤0.02). Scan time reduction did not illustrate significant variation for the SUVs and lesion size. In all TOF protocols for both TLG and MTV, the measured values decreased with increasing segmentation thresholds, as expected, with significantly more impact for higher thresholds (70%, 75%). Meanwhile, higher values were observed for higher post smoothing filter in each specified threshold. With increasing of the threshold, ΔTLG was increased with more impact for higher post smoothing filter. ΔMTV were -10.10±11.09 (-1.35±8.59) and 0.68±17.51 (12.42±18.90) in 2 min/bed position with 5.4 (6.4 mm post smoothing filter) for threshold of 45% and 75% respectively. Conclusion: Scan time reduction from 3 to 2 min can be obtained with TOF in comparison with non-TOF, especially when higher segmentation threshold values with higher subset number (24) and 6.4 mm filters are utilized. Abstract Adversaries may target alerting alarms raised by PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) to prevent notifying operators of critical conditions, to hide faults, to disrupt operations, to cause damages to ICS (Industrial Control Systems) and surrounding environment, or to lead to financial loss. The paper focuses on exposing vulnerabilities of the ladder logic code that handles the alerting alarm messages and how to mitigate them. A real-time test bed of a PLC alarms code was developed and used to conduct several stealthy attack techniques to suppress or hinder alarms by exploiting code vulnerabilities. A novel ladder logic solution that consists of countermeasures against the introduced attacks was proposed, demonstrated, and tested. The countermeasure techniques, such as scan time and heartbeat techniques, were able to detect and prevent the code vulnerabilities and other abnormalities. The provided countermeasure techniques in this experiment could be applied to any PLC to enhance the validity and security of its PLC alarms code. Article Highlights Four stealthy attack models were introduced to exploit PLC alarms code. They were embedded to skip, delete, fake out, or delay alerting alarms. Real-time countermeasure solutions with different techniques were introduced: scan time code, heartbeat code, and physical plausibility check. A list of general best code practices for PLC alarms code was introduced to mitigate code vulnerabilities.

Purpose: To determine which patient characteristics influence MRI scan time and how. Methods: A database search of outpatient MRI liver examinations on 1.5T and 3T scanners from 1/1/2019 to 4/4/2019 was performed using an in-house developed software tool. Mean and median scan times were calculated. Patients who had difficulty following breathing instructions or completing breath-hold sequences were identified. Twenty-one additional patient characteristics were obtained from an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) search. Results: Scan times were significantly increased for patients with breath-holding issues during the exam (N = 43, median = 23.98 min) versus not (N = 179, median = 17.5 min, p < 0.001). Among patients who had difficulty following breathing instructions/completing breath-hold sequences, a significant number were non-native English speakers (23/43, 53%) compared to those whose first language was English (48/179, 27%, p < 0.001). Breath-holding issues were also significantly more frequent for patients requiring a translator during the exam (15/43, 35%) versus those who did not (24/179, 13%, p < 0.001). No other patient characteristics showed a significance difference between those with breathing issues and those without. Patient characteristics that caused a significant number of scan times to be one standard deviation or more above the median were as follows: Breath-holding issues during exam (21/43 ≥ one SD above, 51%, versus 22/189 < one SD above, 12%, p < 0.001); and first language not English (16/71 ≥ one SD above, 23%, versus 55/189 < one SD above, 29%, p = 0.03). Conclusion: The ability to follow breathing instructions and complete breath-hold sequences had a significant impact on patient scan time. Background: Various scanning methods aim to reduce intraoral scanner errors, yet no specific approach targets paediatric patients., Aim: Evaluate continuous (C) and noncontinuous (NC) scanning patterns' impact on the trueness and duration of paediatric digital impressions., Design: A standard pedodontic typodont model was scanned with a Trios 4 Move+ IOS using four scanning strategies. C1 and C2 followed continuous scanning from the right molars, with different directions. NC1 scanned noncontinuously from the right molar, with breaks every four teeth. NC2 began at the right primary incisor, with breaks after every three teeth. Each scan, performed five times by one researcher, was timed. Industrial scanning provided reference data. Deviations were analyzed using the MIXED procedure., Results: NC1 had higher deviations in the lower jaw, whereas C1 and NC1 showed higher deviations in the upper jaw (p < .001). C1 had significantly higher deviations in the upper jaw than the lower jaw (p = .041). Objectives: The aim of this prospective study was to compare scan time, image quality, signal-to-noise Ratio (SNR), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of simultaneous multi-slice accelerated diffusion-weighted imaging with motion-correction (DWI SMS Moco) to standard diffusion-weighted imaging (sDWI) in free-breathing abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pediatric and young adult patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Material and methods: 16 patients (7 male and 9 female, 12–41 years old) with CF were examined prospectively in a single-center from November 2020 to March 2021 on a 1.5 Tesla clinical MR scanner. The characteristics of overall image quality and delimitability of mesenteric lymph nodes were evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale by two experienced pediatric radiologists independently from each other. Quantitative parameters with SNR and ADC values were assessed in 8 different locations and compared using a Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The acquisition time for DWI SMS Moco was 32% shorter than for sDWI. Regarding quality comparison, overall image quality and delimitability of mesenteric lymph nodes were significant higher in DWI SMS Moco (p ≤ 0.05 for both readers). The readers preferred DWI SMS Moco to sDWI in all cases (16/16). Mean SNR values from DWI SMS Moco and sDWI were similar in 7 from 8 locations. The ADC values showed no significant difference between DWI SMS Moco and sDWI in any of the evaluated locations (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The DWI SMS Moco improves overall image quality and delimitability of mesenteric lymph nodes compared to sDWI with similar SNR and ADC values and a distinguished reduction of scan time in free-breathing by one third. We conclude that MRI with DWI SMS Moco could be helpful in monitoring the effect of the high-efficiency modulator (HEM) therapy in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients homozygous or heterozygous for F508del in the abdomen. A programmable logic controller (PLC) executes a ladder diagram (LD) using input and output modules. An LD also has PID controller function blocks. It contains as many PID function blocks as the number of process parameters to be controlled. Adding more process parameters slows down PLC scan time. Process parameters are measured as analog signals. The analog input module in the PLC converts these analog signals into digital signals and forwards them to the PID controller as inputs. In this research work, a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based multiple PID controller is proposed to retain PLC scan time at a lower value. Concurrent execution of multiple PID controllers was assured by assigning separate FPGA hardware resources for every PID controller. Digital input to the PID controller is routed by the novel idea of analog to digital conversion (ADC), performed using a digital to analog converter (DAC), comparator, and FPGA. ADC combined with dedicated PID controller logic in an FPGA for every closed-loop control system confirms concurrent execution of multiple PID controllers. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy offers a fast and efficient method for analysing soil elemental composition, both in the laboratory and the field. However, the technique is sensitive to spectral interference as well as physical and chemical matrix effects, which can reduce the precision of the measurements. We systematically assessed the XRF technique under different sample preparations, water contents, and excitation times. Four different soil samples were used as blocks in a three-way factorial experiment, with three sample preparations (natural aggregates, ground to ≤2 mm and ≤1 mm), three gravimetric water contents (air-dry, 10% and 20%), and three excitation times (15, 30 and 60 s). The XRF spectra were recorded and gave 540 spectra in all. Elemental peaks for Si, K, Ca, Ti, Fe and Cu were identified for analysis. We used analysis of variance (anova) with post hoc tests to identify significant differences between our factors and used the intensity and area of the elemental peaks as the response. Our results indicate that all of these factors significantly affect the XRF spectrum, but longer excitation times appear to be more defined. In most cases, no significant difference was found between air-dry and 10% water content. Moisture has no apparent effect on coarse samples unless ground to 1 mm. We suggested that the XRF measurements that take 60 s from dry samples or only slightly moist ones might be an optimum option under field conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of software on scan time, trueness, and precision of digital scans created using the CEREC Omnicam. Material and methods: Sixty scans (20 scans/provider) of a standard reference cast were made by three different providers using the CEREC Omnicam with both CEREC Ortho 1.2.1 software (10 scans/provider) and CEREC SW 4.4.4 software (10 scans/provider). A digital full arch scan and the time to complete each scan were recorded. Trueness was calculated by overlaying the digital scans against a reference file created using the standard reference cast and a laboratory‐based, white light, 3‐dimensional scanner. Precision was calculated by overlaying each of digital scans against each other, using each scan as a reference. The non‐parametric Mann‐Whitney U‐test was used to determine significant differences attributable to scanning software for each provider. Results: The CEREC Ortho 1.2.1 software required a longer scan time than the CEREC SW 4.4.4 software for each provider (∼1 minute). No significant difference in trueness was observed within one provider. Two individual providers had higher precision when scanning with the CEREC Ortho 1.2.1 software than the CEREC SW 4.4.4 software. Conclusion: Software and scan strategy may affect the accuracy of complete‐arch scans. The CEREC Ortho 1.2.1 software may demonstrate a speed‐accuracy tradeoff, with generally longer scan times and possibly more precise scans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A programmable logic controller (PLC) executes a ladder diagram (LD) using input and output modules. An LD also has PID controller function blocks. It contains as many PID function blocks as the number of process parameters to be controlled. Adding more process parameters slows down PLC scan time. Process parameters are measured as analog signals. The analog input module in the PLC converts these analog signals into digital signals and forwards them to the PID controller as inputs. In this research work, a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based multiple PID controller is proposed to retain PLC scan time at a lower value. Concurrent execution of multiple PID controllers was assured by assigning separate FPGA hardware resources for every PID controller. Digital input to the PID controller is routed by the novel idea of analog to digital conversion (ADC), performed using a digital to analog converter (DAC), comparator, and FPGA. ADC combined with dedicated PID controller logic in an FPGA for every closed-loop control system confirms concurrent execution of multiple PID controllers. The time required to execute two closed-loop controls was identified as 18.96000004 ms. This design can be used either with or without a PLC.

Objectives: To determine the trueness and precision of 2 wireless intraoral scanners (IOSs) under various battery levels, and assess scanning efficiency., Methods: A maxillary cast with 4 metal spheres attached was fabricated. Two wireless IOSs (TRIOS 3 and TRIOS 4) were evaluated under 3 battery levels (1-30%, 31-60%, and 61-100%; n = 30). Six horizontal distances and 1 vertical distance were measured between 4 spherical centers and 1 generated plane. The distance deviations were determined with a coordinate-measuring machine data set. Kruskal-Wallis and Levene tests were used to analyze trueness and precision. Scan time and the number of three-dimensional (3D) images captured were analyzed by using a 2-way analysis of variance., Results: In terms of trueness and precision, no significant differences were found at various battery levels over the majority of the measured distances. TRIOS 4 demonstrated better trueness than TRIOS 3 for cross-arch scan. The 61-100% battery level resulted in the shortest scan time and the least number of 3D images captured (p < 0.001). Scan time and number of 3D images captured were strongly correlated for TRIOS 3 (r = 0.66) and TRIOS 4 (r = 0.89)., Conclusions: Changes in battery level had no impact on the trueness and precision of TRIOS 3 and TRIOS 4. High battery level IOSs resulted in faster scans and fewer 3D images captured with less storage space. Objective: The aim: To compare efficacy of intramuscular (IM) versus intravenous (IV) ketamine for sedation in children undergoing brain MRI scanning in children., Patients and Methods: Materials and methods: Children who required elective brain MRI were selected for this study. They were randomly divided into two groups; group I received 1.5 mg/kg IV Ketamine and group II received 4 mg/kg IM ketamine. In each group supplementary 0.1 mg/kg midazolam intravenously before positioning on MRI table was given. Patients were monitored for pulse rate, SPO2, and respiratory wave., Results: Results: Children who received IM ketamine had significantly shorter scan time and a greater success rate of sedation with first dose than the IV group. The proportions of scan interruption and scan repeat were significantly higher among the IV group than in the IM group. The scan time was longer among the IV group than in the IM group with significantly more scan interruption and repeat. Satisfaction with sedation as expressed by the technicians was significantly more in the IM group than in IV group (98.1% vs. 80.8%, P= 0.004)., Conclusion: Conclusions: Intramuscular ketamine injection was predicted to have a better sedative success rate and takes less time to complete than intravenous admin¬istration. This makes IM ketamine more appealing in certain conditions.
