IntroductionFood brands that promote a healthy lifestyle are gaining more followers. Healthy food consumers are a conscious and demanding segment that values the quality and benefits they receive from a product and the ethical, environmental, and social impact of their purchasing decisions. The objective of the research is to evaluate the influence of perceived value components on health food brand image and brand loyalty in an emerging market.MethodsA cross-sectional and explanatory study was conducted considering 612 consumers of a healthy brand in Peru. The participants included women (65.2%) and men (34.8%), with ages between 18 and 56 (M = 22.56; SD = 5.95). Data were collected using a self-report form and statistically analyzed using PLS-SEM.ResultsThe study hypotheses confirmed the impact of perceived emotional value, perceived social value, perceived financial value, and perceived quality on brand image and loyalty. However, the proposed model observes that perceived social value has no impact on brand loyalty.ConclusionImplementing strategies that help build stronger, healthy brands is part of effective management for business leaders. In this context, the findings indicate that brands should effectively communicate their attributes and offer them that meet and exceed consumer expectations to achieve consumer loyalty. This is a mechanism to consolidate a strong and positive image that facilitates customer loyalty based on perceived value. The results obtained can help marketers and decision-makers in the healthy food industry to design more effective brand strategies, which could increase demand for their healthy products.

Abstract Tauopathies encompass a group of neurodegenerative disorders characterised by diverse tau amyloid fibril structures. The persistence of polymorphism across tauopathies suggests that distinct pathological conditions dictate the adopted polymorph for each disease. However, the extent to which intrinsic structural tendencies of tau amyloid cores contribute to fibril polymorphism remains uncertain. Using a combination of experimental approaches, we here identify a new amyloidogenic motif, PAM4 (Polymorphic Amyloid Motif of Repeat 4), as a significant contributor to tau polymorphism. Calculation of per-residue contributions to the stability of the fibril cores of different pathologic tau structures suggests that PAM4 plays a central role in preserving structural integrity across amyloid polymorphs. Consistent with this, cryo-EM structural analysis of fibrils formed from a synthetic PAM4 peptide shows that the sequence adopts alternative structures that closely correspond to distinct disease-associated tau strains. Furthermore, in-cell experiments revealed that PAM4 deletion hampers the cellular seeding efficiency of tau aggregates extracted from Alzheimer’s disease, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy patients, underscoring PAM4’s pivotal role in these tauopathies. Together, our results highlight the importance of the intrinsic structural propensity of amyloid core segments to determine the structure of tau in cells, and in propagating amyloid structures in disease.

Hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) is common among Chilean adults over 60, impacting their functionality. This study aimed to determine how health factors such as disease severity, type of OA, medication use, and physical activity levels relate to functionality in individuals with OA. The sample size included 67 women and 13 men aged 38 to 92 (66.6 ± 11.2) with diagnosed knee or hip OA. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) was used to estimate physical activity, the Lequesne Index for functional impairment, and the VAS (Visual Analog Scale) for pain. Data were collected from December 2022 to March 2023. We performed bivariate analyses, which indicated that greater OA severity and bilateral OA are associated with increased functional impairment and pain. Medication use was correlated with higher pain levels, and physical activity was correlated with functionality; there was no correlation with age. Here, 65.4% of the variance in functionality problems was explained by OA severity, bilateral involvement, and pain level, highlighting their impact on functionality. Functionality problems were higher in individuals who suffered higher levels of severity when they performed lower levels of physical activity. These findings underscore the importance of promoting physical activity to improve the quality of life for individuals with OA.

In the current consumer context, the trend towards a healthy lifestyle has significantly increased the demand for healthy foods. This study aims to identify the relationship between the brand image (BI) and purchase intention (PI) of these products and how variables such as perceived brand quality (BPQ) and brand satisfaction (BS) influence brand trust (BT) and brand loyalty (BL) in this relationship. The methodology includes a quantitative approach, using non-probability convenience sampling. Using an online survey, data were collected from 637 consumers. Analyses were performed using structural equation modeling (SEM-PLS). The results show no significant correlation between BI and PI, but BI significantly impacts BPQ, BS, BT, and BL. Furthermore, BPQ positively influences BS, BT, and BL, but it does not have a direct influence on PI. The findings suggest that a positive brand image satisfies consumers and generates long-term trust and loyalty. However, perceived quality does not always translate into purchase intention due to various barriers. Practical implications highlight the importance of building a strong and positive brand image to encourage demand for healthy products.

The current study aimed to examine the relationship between sociodemographic variables (i.e., sex, age, marital status, educational level, socioeconomic status, and working mode) and physical activity levels declared by Chilean adults. The sample comprised 483 Chilean adults, 159 men (32.9%) and 324 women (67.1%) aged from 18 to 69 years old (36.5 ± 12.0). The participants completed an ad hoc sociodemographic online survey between December 2022 and March 2023 that included questions about characteristics of participants such as sex, age, educational level, household income, marital status, and working mode. Vigorous, moderate, and walking activities were measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), a self-administered questionnaire. Men declared significantly higher vigorous and moderated physical activity than women. People aged 18 to 25, single or unmarried, and with the lowest household income, showed significantly higher scores in vigorous physical activity than those aged 26 to 45, cohabiting with a partner or married, and middle household income, respectively. Regarding working mode, people working at their job site said walking more than people not working, working in a hybrid mode, and working online. Our findings suggest that promoting strategies that increase physical activity during the pandemic is necessary to avoid health problems.

Abstract There is an arms race between beta-lactam antibiotics development and co-evolving beta-lactamases, which provide resistance by breaking down beta-lactam rings. We have observed that certain beta-lactamases tend to aggregate, which persists throughout their evolution under the selective pressure of antibiotics on their active sites. Interestingly, we find that existing beta-lactamase active site inhibitors can act as molecular chaperones, promoting the proper folding of these resistance factors. Therefore, we have created Pept-Ins, synthetic peptides designed to exploit the structural weaknesses of beta-lactamases by causing them to misfold into intracellular inclusion bodies. This approach restores sensitivity to a wide range of beta-lactam antibiotics in resistant clinical isolates, including those with Extended Spectrum variants that pose significant challenges in medical practice. Our findings suggest that targeted aggregation of resistance factors could offer a strategy for identifying molecules that aid in addressing the global antibiotic resistance crisis.

El estudio tuvo por objetivo describir y clasificar los trabajos de titulación desarrollados entre los años 2009 al 2019 de la carrera de Pedagogía en Educación Física de una universidad pública no estatal del sur de Chile. Se utilizó un enfoque cuantitativo, utilizando estadística descriptiva para el análisis de datos. Se analizó un total de 212 tesis, para la clasificación se elaboró una propuesta que estableció 3 áreas temáticas, cuyos resultados exponen que la mayor cantidad de trabajos de titulación se encuentran en el área pedagógica, seguida por el área disciplinar y finalmente el área integral. Se concluye que estudios descriptivos en torno al análisis de tesis en un periodo de tiempo determinado permiten conocer y reorientar los procesos de formación inicial docente en Educación Física en torno a las demandas para una formación de calidad en relación con la malla curricular y normas institucionales establecidas.

IntroductionThis paper aimed to build a predictive model through an empirical study to examine the influence of environmental awareness (EA) on attitude (ATT) and perceived behavioral control (PBC), as well as to determine the influence of the three variables of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) on willingness to pay (WP) for green products in the Peruvian market.MethodsA total of 405 Peruvian consumers were surveyed. Most of them were between the ages of 18 and 30 and single. To test the hypotheses, partial least squares (PLS-SEM) were used using the SamrtPls4 software. The results show the significant positive effect of EA on ATT and PBC. The positive and significant effect of ATT, SN, and PBC on WP was also tested A total of 405 Peruvian consumers were surveyed. Most of them were between 18 and 30 years old and single. To test the hypotheses, partial least squares (PLS-SEM) was used using SamrtPls4 software.ResultsThe results show the positive and significant effect of AD on ATT and PBC. The positive and significant effect of ATT, SN and PBC on WP was also tested.DiscussionThe research provides antecedents that allow evaluation of the possibility that companies and governments adjust the dissemination strategies and related public policies regarding the impact of environmentally responsible behavior in order to contribute to the development of environmental awareness as a variable that promotes the disposition of consumers to pay for environmentally friendly products.

The lack of economic resources has a negative effect on the maternal role of younger mothers. In Chile, the majority of adolescent pregnancies occur in socially and economically vulnerable contexts. The current study aimed to examine the relationship between demographic variables within the family context and parenting behaviors among Chilean adolescent mothers (including affection, responsiveness, encouragement, and teaching). These factors were correlated with communication, problem-solving abilities, and personal–social development in typically developing infants. The study included a sample of 79 Chilean adolescent mother–child dyads with children aged 10 to 24 months. Communication, problem-solving, and personal–social development were assessed using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-3, along with a demographic information questionnaire. The parenting behaviors mentioned above were observed using the Spanish version of Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes. The findings indicated that mothers in employment and those who had not dropped out of school had children with better problem-solving skills. Additionally, children residing with their fathers and female children performed better in communication, problem-solving, and personal–social development. Maternal responsiveness was associated with communication and problem-solving, while maternal encouragement was linked to improved problem-solving skills. Maternal teaching was connected to communication, problem-solving, and personal–social development. The study emphasized the significance of parenting and sociodemographic factors among adolescent mothers and their influence on their children’s development.

The overconsumption and inappropriate use of antibiotics is escalating antibiotic resistance development, which is now one of the 10 top threats to global health. Introducing antibiotics with a novel mode of action into clinical use is urgently needed to address this issue. Deliberately inducing aggregation of target proteins and disrupting protein homeostasis in bacteria via amyloidogenic peptides, also called Pept-ins (from peptide interferors), can be lethal to bacteria and shows considerable promise as a novel antibiotic strategy. However, the translation of Pept-ins into the clinic requires further investigation into their mechanism of action and improvement of their therapeutic window. Therefore, we performed systematic structure modifications of 2 previously discovered Pept-ins, resulting in 179 derivatives, and investigated the corresponding impact on antimicrobial potency, cellular accumulation, and ability to induce protein aggregation in bacteria, in vitro aggregation property, and toxicity on mammalian cells. Our results show that both Pept-in accumulation and aggregation of target proteins in bacteria are requisite for Pept-in mediated antimicrobial activity. Improvement of these two parameters can be achieved via increasing the number of arginine residues, increasing Pept-in aggregation propensity, optimizing the aggregate core structure, adopting β-turn linkers, or forming a disulphide bond. Correspondingly, improvement of these two parameters can enhance Pept-in antimicrobial efficacy against wildtype E. coli BL21 used in the laboratory as well as clinically isolated multidrug-resistant strain E. coli ATCC, A. baumannii, and K. pneumoniae.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the determinants of non-institutional delivery among women of childbearing age in Peru. Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of data from the Peru 2019 Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES). This multi-stage survey sampling is representative at the urban-rural, regional, and national levels. The outcome variable was place of delivery, collected by self-reporting. Binary logistic regression models were used to assess the factors associated with non-institutionalized delivery. Thus, we estimated crude and adjusted odd ratios (aOR). For the multivariable model, the manual forward selection method and the Wald test were used to obtain a final parsimonious model. Results: The final sample included 14,061 women of reproductive age between the ages of 15 and 49. The prevalence of non-institutional delivery was 7.8 %. Multivariate regression analysis found that having a secondary education (aOR:0.48; 95 % confidence interval [CI]:0.39–0.58) or higher (aOR:0.57; 95 %CI:0.42–0.78); belonging to the second (aOR:0.26; 95 %CI:0.20–0.33), third (aOR:0.28; 95 %CI:0.21–0.38), fourth (aOR:0.21; 95 %CI:0.13–0.33), or fifth wealth quintile (aOR:0.15; 95 %CI:0.09–0.27); and suffering intimate partner violence (aOR:0.76; 95 %CI:0.64–0.91) were associated with lower odds of non-institutional delivery, while not having some type of health insurance (aOR:3.12; 95 %CI:2.47–3.95), living in a rural area (aOR:1.93; 95 %CI:1.54–2.42), and having had three or more deliveries (aOR:1.36; 95 %CI:1.07–1.72), were associated with higher odds of non-institutional delivery. Conclusions: We found that not having health insurance, residing in a rural area, and having had three or more deliveries were factors associated with non-institutional delivery in women of childbearing age. We propose that should focus public health strategies towards providing education to women about maternal health, and likewise, facilitating access to specialized health centers for rural populations.
