In the present research an economically effective porous fly ash-based filter candle (FFC) was developed for the treatment of domestic wastewater using fly ash, sodium silicate, wood dust, silica fume and water. The four testing specimens of FFC having different sizes (10, 20, 30, and 40 mm) were prepared. The parameters such as turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved oxygen (DO), total dissolved solids (TDS), and pH of domestic wastewater were studied before and after treatment. The test results showed that there is a decrease in values of turbidity from 7 to 5.9 NTU, TSS from 300 to 218 mg/L, TDS from 400 to 302 mg/L, pH from 10.6 to 7.9, and BOD from 9.5 to 7.9 while DO values decreased in the range of 8.9 to 7.7. The observed porosity, compressive strength, and flow rate of FFC fall in the range of 24.55-27.26 %, 1.5-2.3 MPa, and 180-290 ml/h, respectively. The filtration tests using FFC exhibited good performance with >92 % filtration efficiency. Overall results have shown that FFC having a 30 mm bed thickness is recommendable for effective wastewater treatment. Thus, an attempt has been made to introduce a novel technology for domestic wastewater treatment using industrial fly ash waste.

Amavata is disorder affecting the population globally with pain, swelling, stiffness of joints. It can be compared with Rheumatoid arthritis based on similar signs and symptoms, with female and male ratio as 3:1. The prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis in most industrialized countries varies between 0.3% and 1%; In India a rough estimate of 0.5 – 0.75% affliction is observed, with two-thirds of patients having mildto-moderate disability and less than 10% having severe disability Within 10 years of disease onset, at least 50% of patients in developed countries are unable to hold down a full-time job. In any form of arthritis involving knee joint not only produces physical disability, but also has crippling effect on psychosocial entity of the individual. So knee joint being an important locomotory and weight bearing joint, deserves special attention in prevention and management strategies for rheumatic diseases. Our Ayurvedic literatures have wealth of resource information regarding the measures preventing the complication and treatment of this disease. Among them are Valuka sweda and shatapushpadi lepa mentioned by Yogaratnakara which are said to have important role to play in reduction of shotha, shula and stabdata in treatment of Amavata. So the knee joint has been specially considered, and effort has been made in this comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of valuka sweda and shatapushpadi lepa in janu sandhi shula, shotha and stabdata w.s r Amavata.

Intussusceptions as an entity is more common in children than adults in whom it is almost always secondary to some associated pathology. Moreover, the presentation is subacute or chronic in nature and all classical features of intussusceptions are rarely present together that makes the diagnosis more challenging. Here we presented a case of ileo-ileal intussusception in an adult male. Obligation of early diagnosis, initial management is unique in such cases. It also focuses on importance of availability of the imaging facilities in management of acute abdomen so as to assist in timely diagnosis as well as the definitive management of intussusceptions.

Fundic gland polyps (FGP) of stomach are benign, while some hyperplastic polyps (HP) may harbor dysplasia or malignancy. Conventional white light endoscopy (WLE) cannot reliably distinguish FGP from HP. We investigated the role of image-enhanced endoscopy in differentiating FGP from HP.Patients with gastric polyps were recruited prospectively. The characteristics of the polyps were assessed using WLE and magnification narrow band imaging (mNBI). The microsurface, intervening space (IS), and microvascular (V) features of polyps were evaluated on mNBI. The pattern characteristic of FGP and HP were determined. Histopathology of polyps was the gold standard for diagnosis. Finally, in the validation phase, five endoscopists applied the characteristic features identified in this study to predict the type of gastric polyp and their performance was assessed.Forty-five patients with a total of 70 gastric polyps (HP-46, FGP-24) were included in this study. On mNBI, the pattern characteristic of HP included peripheral curved type of white structures forming large circular/villous loops (microsurface), enlarged intervening space, and microvessels appearing as dark patches in the intervening space (p0.001 vs. FGP). These were noted in 95.7% HP. In contrast, 95.8% FGP had a pattern characterized by dotted/elliptical/tubular white structures (microsurface), normal width of intervening space, and microvessels surrounding the white structures in a network pattern. This IS-V pattern classification had an accuracy of90% in the validation phase with intra-class correlation coefficient of 0.95. The accuracy of mNBI was higher than WLE (97.1% vs. 67%) in predicting the type of gastric polyp.Image-enhanced endoscopy with mNBI (IS-V pattern) performs very well in differentiating HP from FGP.

To evaluate the antibiotic resistance pattern, clinical profile and predictors for adverse outcomes in children hospitalized due to staphylococcal infection; and the frequency of nasal and axillary carrier states in these children.This descriptive study enrolled 100 symptomatic children (aged 1 month - 12 years) in whom S. aureus was isolated from cultures of blood, pus or cerebrospinal fluid. All samples were processed as per the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards. Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested using disc diffusion method; minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for vancomycin was measured using E strips. Predictors for poor recovery were determined by univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis.Skin and soft tissue infections were the most common (47%) followed by respiratory infections (37%). Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was detected in 62%, out of which 63% (39/62) were multi-drug resistant. Carrier state was present in 49% (93% MRSA); 80% were axillary carriers. High MIC (1 µg/mL) for vancomycin was seen in 65% of patients, and was the only factor associated with poor recovery [aOR (95%CI) 5.3 (1.6-18.5); P=0.008] on multivariable logistic regression analysis.MRSA is the predominant staphylococcal strain in severe staphylococcal infections requiring hospitalization, and majority of them are multidrug resistant. High MIC to vancomycin among S. aureus is an emerging concern.

This study aims to guide scholars on emerging research themes and publication trends by reviewing the published intellectual contributions in the FIIB Business Review (FBR)—a multidisciplined management journal since its inception. FBR has been indexed in Scopus and Academic journal guide (AJG) and continues to achieve new heights. This article has used bibliometric analysis of the leading publication themes of the journal between 2011 and 2022. This work uses the Scopus database to find the publication trend and most impactful papers, main themes and keywords of publication, futuristic themes and target ideas for FBR. In 2021, the average citation value for three years was 2.292 compared to 0.778 in 2020. Journal of Business Research, Journal of Marketing and Journal of Finance are the top three most cited journals in FBR. The journal has shown usefulness for scholars mainly related but not limited to strategic management, marketing, organizational behaviour and finance, among others, by contributing to areas like digital transformation, team problems, organizational conflicts, COVID-19 problems, sustainability and financial crises. Areas of future research and limitations are discussed.

Pervious concrete (PC), as sustainable pavement material, has gained a lot of attention as a result of its specific environmental effects. This manuscript analyzes the advancements and state-of-the-art pertinent to PC research and practices. This review focuses on the utilization of various waste components (used as aggregate) in PC, its composition and specifications, mechanical strength and durability, pore properties and clogging behaviour; in-situ applications and the future scope of the material. The unique ability of PC addresses a number of environmental interests ex: ground water recharging, water runoff mitigation, controlled heat island effect, decrease in risk pertaining to flash flooding runoff, noise reduction, etc. The multitudinous benefits of PC paves a way for further investigations to understand the material functionality in a better way and make it a promising sustainable construction material in future.

To compare the efficacy of sunlight exposure and oral vitamin D3 supplementation to achieve vitamin D sufficiency in infants at 6 months of age.Open-label randomized controlled trial.Public hospital in Northern India (28.7°N).Breastfed infants at 6-8 weeks of age.Randomized to receive sunlight exposure (40% body surface area for a minimum of 30 minutes/week) or oral vitamin D3 supplementation (400 IU/day) till 6 months of age.Primary - proportion of infants having vitamin D sufficiency (20 ng/mL). Secondary - proportion of infants developing vitamin D deficiency (12ng/mL) and rickets in both the groups at 6 months of age.Eighty (40 in each group) infants with mean (SD) age 47.8 (4.5) days were enrolled. The proportion of infants with vitamin D sufficiency increased after intervention in the vitamin D group from 10.8% to 35.1% (P=0.01) but remained the same in sunlight group (13.9%) and was significant on comparison between both groups (P=0.037). The mean (SD) compliance rate was 72.9 (3.4) % and 59.7 (23.6) % in the vitamin D and sunlight group, respectively (P=0.01). The geometric mean (95% CI) serum 25(OH) D levels in the vitamin D and sunlight group were 16.23 (13.58-19.40) and 11.89 (9.93-14.23) ng/mL, respectively; (P=0.02), after adjusting baseline serum 25(OH)D with a geometric mean ratio of 1.36 (1.06-1.76). Two infants in sunlight group developed rickets.Oral vitamin D3 supplementation is more efficacious than sunlight in achieving vitamin D sufficiency in breastfed infants during the first 6 months of life due to better compliance.

To evaluate efficacy of oral vs. intravenous calcium supplementation for continuation therapy in hypocalcemic seizures.Sixty children between 1 mo and 5 y presenting with hypocalcemic seizures without any other underlying febrile, chronic systemic disease, or acute neurological illness were included. Participants were randomized to receive either intravenous (IV) 10% calcium gluconate (n = 30) or oral elemental calcium (n = 30) for 48 h following initial seizure control with intravenous calcium.Seizures recurred in 3 (10%) children in IV group as compared to 4 (13.3%) in oral calcium group (p = 0.278) within 48 h. Serum calcium levels achieved in the two treatment groups at 24 h [7.96 (1.32) vs. 8.23 (1.58) mg/dL; p = 0.476] and 48 h [8.5 (1.01) vs. 8.63 (1.39) mg/dL; p = 0.681] were comparable.Oral calcium may be as efficacious as intravenous calcium during continuation phase of treating hypocalcemic seizures; however, further studies are needed for definite recommendations.Trial Registration number: CTRI/2017/12/011042.

Suicide is an important cause of adolescent mortality and morbidity in India. As pediatricians are often the first point of contact for adolescents and their families in the healthcare system, they need guidelines to screen, assess, manage and prevent adolescent suicidal behavior to ensure survival, health and mental well-being of this vulnerable population.To formulate guidelines to aid pediatricians for prevention and management of adolescent suicidal behavior.Indian Academy of Pediatrics, in association with Adolescent Health Academy, formed a multidisciplinary committee of subject experts in June, 2019 to formulate guidelines for adolescent suicide prevention and management. After a review of current scientific literature and preparation of draft guidelines, a national consultative meeting was organized on 16 August, 2019 for detailed discussions and deliberations. This was followed by refining of draft guidelines, and discussions over e-mail where suggestions were incorporated and the final document was approved.Pediatricians should screen for mental distress, mental disorders and suicidal and para-suicidal (non-suicidal self-injury) behavior during adolescent health visits. Those with suicidal behavior should be referred to a psychiatrist after providing emergency healthcare, risk assessment, immediate counselling and formulation of a safety plan. Pediatricians should partner with the community and policymakers for primary and secondary prevention of adolescent suicide.

Pediatricians need country specific guidelines in accordance with international and national standards to establish comprehensive adolescent friendly health services in clinical practice.Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) in association with Adolescent Health Academy formed a committee of subject experts in June, 2019 to formulate guidelines for adolescent friendly health services. After a review of current scientific literature and drafting guidelines on each topic, a national consultative meeting was organized on 16 August, 2019 for detailed discussions and deliberations. This was followed by discussions over e-mail and refining of draft recommendations. The final guidelines were approved by the IAP Executive Board in December, 2021.To formulate guidelines to enable pediatricians to establish adolescent friendly health services.Pediatricians should coordinate healthcare for adolescents and plan for transition of care to an adult physician by 18 years of age. Pediatricians should establish respectful, confidential and quality adolescent friendly health services for both out-patient and in-patient care. The healthcare facility should provide preventive, therapeutic, and health promoting services. Pediatricians should partner with the multidisciplinary speciality services, community, and adolescents to expand the scope and reach of adolescent friendly health services.

Self-directed learning (SDL) is a modality where learners are expected to take responsibility for their own learning, diagnose gaps in their learning, frame their own goals and resources for learning, implement appropriate learning strategies and evaluate learning outcomes. Flexibility and creativity in designing assignments for students to work individually or collaboratively are the keys to promoting SDL. The recent competency-based curriculum document from the National Medical Commission does not elaborate the concept or implementation of SDL, leaving it open to individual interpretation. We, herein, discuss the concept of SDL, address common misconceptions surrounding SDL, and elucidate strategies by which SDL skills can be inculcated in medical students using pre-existing opportunities in the curriculum. Flipped classrooms, reciprocal teaching, technology-enhanced methods, problem-based learning, and group projects are excellent ways of promoting SDL. SDL requires efforts and policies both at the teachers' level and at the institutional level; and is an important input to achieve the goal of being a lifelong learner by the Indian medical graduate.

With its colonial past, and a glaring problem of poverty and hunger, India oft fails to acknowledge a new, rapidly growing problem of overnutrition. With the economic boost and entry of various foreign players from the food industry, Indian citizens have been increasingly exposed to ultra-processed, high in sugar, salt and fat foods (HFSS foods). The last decade or so has seen an exponential rise in the consumption of such foods, leading to increasing prevalence of overweight- and obesity-related illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, etc. In this scenario, examining the efficacy of policy-related measures in reducing consumption of these harmful foods and preventing the associated health issues is paramount. Across the globe, several countries have explored options from taxation on HFSS foods to restricting marketing to children, as well as different practices for front of the pack labeling. In the context of India and its increasing burden of preventable, diet-related illnesses, the urgent need of instituting these preventive policies at national scale cannot be neglected.

We examine the effect of the news about merger of six banks into four major banks, employing the standard event study method with the market model on a sample of four bidders and six target banks. We find significant impact of merger announcement on the bidder and target banks. While the bidder banks are negatively impacted, the target banks experience positive impacts on the event day and day after, followed by negative results later on. No previous study is found to have addressed this question on how the merger announcements impact the bidder and target bank's stock returns in India.
