Using lead nitrate, thiourea, as well as sodium hydroxide as chemical precursors, the lead sulphide powder was formed at room temperatures and (PbS), at a given room temperature thin film were deposited on a glass substrate using the (SILAR) method at varying numbers of cycles. The optical studies for powder form and thin films were performed by UV-VI diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer-3600 SHIMADZU and UV-VIS-NIR Spectrophotometry. It was discovered that the PbS powder form as well as thin films produced under ideal deposition circumstances were polycrystalline with a face-centered cubic structure. Optical studies for powder form and thin films were carried out using a UV-VI spectrometer and it revealed the existence of direct bandgap for powder form is 1.69 eV and for thin films values in the ranges of (1.45-2.32) eV.

Background: Amongst various other factors, oxygen (O2) concentration in embryo culture plays an important role in determining pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing in vitro fertilisation. Some studies have reported that lowering O2 levels in embryo culture provides better results. Aims: To explore the effects of low-and ultra-low- O2 concentrations (5% and 2%, respectively) in extended embryo culture on various outcome parameters of pregnancy. Settings and Design: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods: In this study 382 participants had their embryos cultured in varying O2 concentrations (5% or 2%), followed by either a fresh embryo transfer (ET) or frozen embryo transfer (FET). Outcomes such as pregnancy rate, implantation rate, abortion rate, twinning rate, and live birth rate were compared between the groups. Statistical Analysis Used: Chi square test was applied to compare the primary and secondary outcomes between different groups. Results: No significant differences were observed in pregnancy rate and implantation rate between 5% and 2% O2 groups, irrespective of their mode of ET. The abortion rate was significantly higher in 5% O2 group than in 2% group during FET (24.71% vs. 11.49%, P = 0.02). While the proportion of good-quality embryos was higher in 5% O2 group, these did not translate to better pregnancy outcomes. Additionally, embryos cultured in 2% O2 concentration had a significantly better implantation rate when they were transferred fresh rather than frozen (71.34% vs. 61.46%, P = 0.04). There were no other differences observed. Conclusion: Only marginal benefits were observed in switching human embryos to ultra-low O2 concentration after the initial days of culture. Heavy metals are well-recognised as environmental hazards due to their toxicity, environmental persistence, and bioaccumulation in living organisms. Human health is a crucial concern related to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems poisoned by harmful heavy metals. Most heavy metals pollute the air, water, and soil, which can be fatal to humans. Humans and other species can be exposed to heavy metals through the food chain if the metals oxidise or combine with other environmental elements (such as water, soil, or air). Their entry into the food chain assures interactions with biological macromolecules in living systems, including humans, resulting in undesirable outcomes. Human poisonings have typically been caused by mercury, lead, chromium, cadmium, and arsenic. The build-up of these metals in living organisms causes various harmful consequences on different organs and tissues. The gravitas of heavy metal toxicity regarding molecular impact and carcinogenesis needs in-depth understanding despite the plethora of available data. Hence, additionally, we attempt to elaborate on the multi-level impact of five heavy metals and emphasise their role in cancer development. The rationale of this essay is thus to understand the role of five heavy metals, viz., lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg), in carcinogenesis. Heavy metals interfere with various biological functions, including proliferation, differentiation, repair of damage, and apoptosis. By comparing their modes of action, we see that these metals share common mechanisms for inducing toxicity, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, antioxidant defence weakening, enzyme inactivation, and oxidative stress. The progressive globalization of sedentary lifestyles and diets rich in lipids and processed foods has caused two major public health hazards-diabetes and obesity. The strong interlink between obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus and their combined burden encompass them into a single term 'Diabesity'. They have also been tagged as the drivers for the onset of cancer. The clinical association between diabetes, obesity, and several types of human cancer demands an assessment of vital junctions correlating the three. This review focuses on revisiting the molecular axis linking diabetes and obesity to cancer through pathways that get imbalanced owing to metabolic upheaval. We also attempt to describe the functional disruptions of DNA repair mechanisms due to overwhelming oxidative DNA damage caused by diabesity. Genomic instability, a known cancer hallmark results when DNA repair does not work optimally, and as will be inferred from this review the obtruded metabolic homeostasis in diabetes and obesity creates a favorable microenvironment supporting metabolic reprogramming and enabling malignancies. Altered molecular and hormonal landscapes in these two morbidities provide a novel connection between metabolomics and oncogenesis. Understanding various aspects of the tumorigenic process in diabesity-induced cancers might help in the discovery of new biomarkers and prompt targeted therapeutic interventions., Competing Interests: Declarations. Background: Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) pose difficult therapeutic challenges. We aimed to characterize antimicrobial resistance profiles of CPE in our centre., Methods: All non-duplicate CPE isolates between 1 August 2020 and 31 August 2023 in a large teaching trust in England were retrospectively studied. Cefiderocol antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) was performed using disc diffusion, ceftazidime/avibactam using disc diffusion and gradient diffusion, and ceftazidime/avibactam aztreonam synergy using the double disc diffusion method. EUCAST version 14.0 breakpoints were used., Results: A total of 158 CPE from 136 patients were isolated. Most patients were colonized with CPE, but only 16.9% had active infections. Thirty-day all-cause mortality was 10.3%, increasing to 13% for patients with infections and to 18.2% for bacteraemias. OXA-48 was the most prevalent carbapenemase (48.1%), followed by NDM (38%). All isolates exhibited MDR profiles, with high levels of resistance to meropenem (41.1%). Resistance to cefiderocol was found in 69.7% of NDM-producing isolates, with a further 18.2% in the area of technical uncertainty. Ceftazidime/avibactam and aztreonam synergy was seen in 87.5% of isolates, whereas colistin and fosfomycin susceptibility remained high (98.1% and 97.2%, respectively). All OXA-48-producing isolates were susceptible to ceftazidime/avibactam, and 15.3% were resistant to cefiderocol. No patients had been exposed to cefiderocol beforehand, whereas three had been exposed to ceftazidime/avibactam. The most common risk factor for CPE isolation was travel and receiving healthcare abroad, especially in Asia., Conclusions: We found high rates of resistance to cefiderocol in CPE isolates without prior cefiderocol exposure. A mixed method approach was utilized to assess the organizational culture of the mental health service line at a large Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. The goals of the study were to assess the organizational culture, identify how employees differ in perceptions of organizational culture, and identify areas of strength and challenges. Two hundred thirteen participants returned a questionnaire assessing perceptions of organizational culture using the Organizational Culture Assessment Questionnaire (Sashkin & Rosenbach, 2013). Additionally, 22 employees and seven service line leaders participated in five focus groups that assessed for perceptions of culture. Quantitative results suggest that employees had a generally average to high average opinion of the organizational culture of the mental health service line within their VA hospital. Subscale scores suggested that customer orientation was a particular strength of the organization. Relative areas of weakness were that staff felt many decisions were imposed from outside the service line and that hard-working clinical staff were not always sufficiently recognized or rewarded for their actions. In general, demographic variables were not significantly related toward respondent opinion of the organizational culture. Substantial overlap existed between the qualitative and quantitative results. This study suggests that, at this VA's mental health service line, customer service was a strength. However, increased recognition of employees and externally imposed decision-making needed improvement. Although interventions have been implemented in these areas, it would be useful to repeat aspects of this study over time and across different institutions. Development is a sophisticated process maintained by various signal transduction pathways, including the Hedgehog (Hh) pathway. Several important functions are executed by the Hh signaling cascade such as organogenesis, tissue regeneration, and tissue homeostasis, among various others. Considering the multiple functions carried out by this pathway, any mutation causing aberrant Hh signaling may lead to myriad developmental abnormalities besides cancers. In the present review article, we explored a wide range of diseases caused by aberrant Hh signaling, including developmental defects and cancers. Finally, we concluded this mini-review with various treatment strategies for Hh-induced diseases.
