Background: chronic kidney disease is considered a global public health problem, being asymptomatic in its earliest stages, the population is not aware of it. Objective: to determine the hidden morbidity by chronic renal disease in early stages, in patients with arterial hypertension. Methods: a study was conducted based on a descriptive, longitudinal, retrospective study. The universe was made up of 150 hypertensive patients from the No. 33 Doctors Office, from “Pedro Díaz Coello” Polyclinic, in the municipality of Holguín, during the year 2021. The sample of 41 patients was selected through non-probabilistic sampling taking into account some inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: the highest number of hypertensive patients was between 59 and 68 years, representing 36 %; males predominated in 19.5 %; the main risk factor was smoking in 12 patients with 29.26 %. According to renal markers (creatinine, microalbuminuria), 16 were altered with 39 %; according to the degree of chronic renal disease, in stage I, there is the greatest predominance for 62.5 % with 10 patients. Conclusions: there was predominance in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease between the ages of 59 to 68 years and males, with smoking and obesity associated as risk factors present in most, with a higher number of stage I patients and a close relationship between high blood pressure and the hidden morbidity of chronic kidney disease.

Introduction: Early‐onset atrial fibrillation (AF) has already been observed in approximately 2% of patients with genetically proven long QT syndrome (LQTS). This frequency is higher than population‐based estimates of early‐onset AF. However, the concomitant expression of AF in LQTS is likely underestimated. The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical presentation, genetic background, and outcomes of a cohort of patients with LQTS and early‐onset AF referred to a single tertiary center. Methods: Twenty‐seven patients diagnosed with congenital LQTS were included in the study based on the documentation of early‐onset (age ≤50 years) clinical or subclinical AF episodes in all available medical records, including standard electrocardiograms, wearable monitor or cardiac implantable electronic devices. Results: Seventeen patients experienced clinical AF during the follow‐up period. Subclinical AF was detected in 10 patients through insertable or wearable cardiac monitors. In our series, the mean heart rate during AF episodes was found to be relatively low despite the patients' young age and the low or minimal effective doses of beta‐blockers used for QTc interval control. All patients exhibiting LQTS and early‐onset AF were genotype positive, carrying mutations in the KCNQ1 (66%), KCNH2, KCNE1, and SCN5A genes. Notably, most of these patients carried the same p.(R231C) mutation in the KCNQ1 gene (59%) and were from the same families, suggesting concurrent expression of familial AF and LQTS. Conclusion: LQTS patients are prone to developing clinical and subclinical AF, even at a younger age. The occurrence of early‐onset AF in the LQTS population could be more frequent than previously assumed. AF should be considered as a potential dysrhythmia related to LQTS. Our study emphasizes the importance of carefully researching clinical and/or subclinical episodes of AF through strict heart rhythm monitoring in the LQTS population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to present the time behavior of wastewater flow parameters, organic matter, biogas flow, biogas composition, and its relations, measured through online sensors, in a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operating full-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors, installed in the south of Brazil. WWTP has online measurement devices to evaluate some physicochemical variables of the sewage and the biogas. The COD analyzer (UV– Vis probe), ultrasonic flow meter, biogas flow meter, and biogas composition analyzer were the equipment used. The monitoring occurred for two time periods each of 72 h and one time period for 48 h in the year 2018. Data were checked with descriptive statistics, data independence was checked through the autocorrelation Box– Ljung test, normality behavior was checked with several tests (Shapiro– Wilk, Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Lilliefors, Anderson–Darling, D’Agostino K2, and Chen–Shapiro), and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlations among the parameters. The mean sewage flow was 345 ± 120 L.s-1; removed organic load was, in average, 48%; biogas quality values were 82.32% ± 3.62% v/v (CH4), 2.66% ± 1.19% v/v (CO2), and 3453 ± 1268 ppm (H2S); and the production per capita obtained was 4.51 ± 1.65 NL.hab-1.d-1. It was estimated an electric power generation of 3118.6 kWh.d-1, which is equivalent to an installed power of 130 KW. The behavior of removed organic load and biogas flow (Nm3.h-1), produced in the treatment plant, showed variable, periodic, and nonstationary time behavior.

- Abstract
Background: In recent years, improvement of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in Ulcerative colitis (UC) has become a relevant measure for treatment efficacy. Methods: We report results from a multicenter prospective study in Italy investigating HRQoL in adult patients with UC treated with golimumab (GLM). Patients who had shown clinical response after a 6-week induction phase (w0), were followed for an additional 48 weeks (w48) (total 54-week treatment). Results: Of the 159 patients enrolled 90 completed the study. Compared to values at the beginning of treatment (n = 137), significant improvements were observed for mean total Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) scores at w0 (16 8.5) and w4 8 (181.7). Patients with baseline PMS above the median tended to have greater improvements in IBDQ at w0 (OR 2.037, p = 0.033) and w48 (OR 3.292, p = 0.027). Compared to beginning of GLM treatment, the mean Full Mayo Score (FMS) decreased by 5.9 points at w48, while mean Partial Mayo Score (PMS) decreased by 3.9 points at w0 and by 4.9 points at w48.Conclusions: GLM improved HRQoL, disease activity and inflammatory biomarkers in UC patients with moderate-to-severely active disease. The greater the burden of disease activity at baseline, the greater the improvement of HRQoL after 24 and 48 weeks of treatment.(c) 2023 The Authors. Purpose This study aims to evaluate blast loads on and the response of submerged structures. Design/methodology/approach An arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian method is developed to model fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems of close-in underwater explosions (UNDEX). The “fluid” part provides the loads for the structure considers air, water and high explosive materials. The spatial discretization for the fluid domain is performed with a second-order vertex-based finite volume scheme with a tangent of hyperbola interface capturing technique. The temporal discretization is based on explicit Runge–Kutta methods. The structure is described by a large-deformation Lagrangian formulation and discretized via finite elements. First, one-dimensional test cases are given to show that the numerical method is free of mesh movement effects. Thereafter, three-dimensional FSI problems of close-in UNDEX are studied. Finally, the computation of UNDEX near a ship compartment is performed. Findings The difference in the flow mechanisms between rigid targets and deforming targets is quantified and evaluated. Research limitations/implications Cavitation is modeled only approximately and may require further refinement/modeling. Practical implications The results demonstrate that the proposed numerical method is accurate, robust and versatile for practical use. Social implications Better design of naval infrastructure [such as bridges, ports, etc.]. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study has been conducted for the first time.

- Abstract
Electrochemotherapy has been proven to be an efficient treatment for cutaneous metastases of various cancers. Data on breast cancer (BC) patients with cutaneous metastases were retrieved from the INSPECT database. Patients were divided by their receptor status: HER2+, HR+ (ER/PgR+), and TN (triple negative). Groups were similar for histological subtype and location of the nodules. Most patients were previously treated with surgery/systemic therapy/radiotherapy. We found no differences in the three groups in terms of response ratio (OR per patient 86% HER2+, 80% HR+, 76% TN, p = 0.8664). The only factor positively affecting the complete response rate in all groups was small tumor size (<3 cm, p = 0.0105, p = 0.0001, p = 0.0266, respectively). Local progression-free survival was positively impacted by the achievement of complete response in HER2+ (p = 0.0297) and HR+ (p = 0.0094), while overall survival was affected by time to local progression in all groups (p = 0.0065 in HER2+, p < 0.0001 in HR+, p = 0.0363 in TN). ECT treatment is equally effective among groups, despite different receptor status. Response and local tumor control seem to be better in multiple small lesions than in big armor-like lesions, suggesting that treating smaller, even multiple, lesions at the time of occurrence is more effective than treating bigger long-lasting armor-like cutaneous lesions.

- Abstract
Introduction: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a frequent skin cancer with a high risk of recurrence characterized by tumor infiltration and, in advanced cases, a poor prognosis. ECT (electrochemotherapy) is an alternative treatment option for locally advanced or recurrent cSCC that is unsuitable for surgical resection. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the data in the InspECT (International Network for Sharing Practice on ECT) registry of the referral centers and to clarify the indications for the use of ECT as a treatment modality for cSCC. Materials and methods: Patients with primary, recurrent or locally advanced cSCC from 18 European centers were included. They underwent at least one ECT session with bleomycin between February 2008 and November 2020, which was performed following the European Standard Operating Procedures. Results: The analysis included 162 patients (mean age of 80 years; median, 1 lesion/patient). Side effects were mainly local and mild (hyperpigmentation, 11%; ulceration, 11%; suppuration, 4%). The response to treatment per patient was 62% complete and 21% partial. In the multivariate model, intravenous drug administration and small tumor size showed a significant association with a positive outcome (objective response). One-year local progression-free survival was significantly better (p<0.001) in patients with primary tumors (80% (95% C.I. 70%-90%) than in patients with locally advanced disease (49% (95% C.I. 30%-68%). Conclusion: In the present study, ECT showed antitumor activity and a favorable safety profile in patients with complex cSCC for whom there was no widely accepted standard of care. Better results were obtained in primary and small tumors (<3 cm) using intravenous bleomycin administration.

- Abstract
Methodik: 20 Krebszentren des International Network for Sharing Practices on Electrochemotherapy (InspECT) sammelten prospektiv Daten.

- Abstract
Background Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an effective local treatment for cutaneous tumors. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of ECT in ulcerated vs. non-ulcerated tumors and investigate the effect on tumor-associated symptoms. Methods Twenty cancer centers in the International Network for Sharing Practices on Electrochemotherapy (InspECT) prospectively collected data. ECT was performed following ESOPE protocol. Response was evaluated by lesion size development. Pain, symptoms, performance status (ECOG-Index) and health status (EQ-5D questionnaire) were evaluated. Results 716 patients with ulcerated (n = 302) and non-ulcerated (n = 414) cutaneous tumors and metastases were included (minimum follow-up of 45 days). Non-ulcerated lesions responded to ECT better than ulcerated lesions (complete response 65 % vs. 51 %, p = 0.0061). Only 38 % (115/302) with ulcerated lesions before ECT presented with ulcerated lesions at final follow-up. Patients with ulcerated lesions reported higher pain and more severe symptoms compared to non-ulcerated lesions, which significantly and continuously improved following ECT. In non-ulcerated lesions however, pain spiked during the treatment. No serious adverse events were reported. Conclusions ECT is a safe and effective local treatment for cutaneous tumors. While ECT improves symptoms especially in patients with ulcerated lesions, data suggest the implementation of a perioperative pain management in non-ulcerated lesions during ECT.

This study aims to present the time behavior of wastewater flowparameters, organic matter, biogas flow, biogas composition, and itsrelations, measured through online sensors, in a municipal wastewatertreatment plant (WWTP) operating full-scale upflow anaerobic sludgeblanket (UASB) reactors, installed in the south of Brazil. WWTP hasonline measurement devices to evaluate some physicochemicalvariables of the sewage and the biogas. The COD analyzer (UV–Vis probe), ultrasonic flow meter, biogas flow meter, and biogascomposition analyzer were the equipment used. The monitoringoccurred for two time periods each of 72 h and one time period for48 h in the year 2018. Data were checked with descriptive statistics, data independence was checked through the autocorrelation Box–Ljung test, normality behavior was checked with several tests (Shapiro–Wilk, Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Lilliefors, Anderson–Darling, D’Agostino K2,and Chen–Shapiro), and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was usedto evaluate the correlations among the parameters. The mean sewageflow was 345 ± 120 L.s-1; removed organic load was, in average, 48%;biogas quality values were 82.32% ± 3.62% v/v (CH4), 2.66% ± 1.19%v/v (CO2), and 3453 ± 1268 ppm (H2S); and the production per capita obtained was 4.51 ± 1.65 NL.hab-1.d-1. It was estimated an electricpower generation of 3118.6 kWh.d-1, which is equivalent to an installedpower of 130 KW. The behavior of removed organic load and biogasflow (Nm3.h-1), produced in the treatment plant, showed variable, periodic, and nonstationary time behavior.

GAS detectors ,DISPERSING agents ,SURFACE active agents ,CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSE ,SODIUM dodecyl sulfate ,CARBON-based materials - Abstract
Solid-state chemiresistive gas sensors have attracted a lot of researchers' attention during the last half-century thanks to their ability to detect different gases with high sensitivity, low power consumption, low cost, and high portability. Among the most promising sensitive materials, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted a lot of interest due to their large active surface area (in the range of 50–1400 m
2 /g, depending on their composition) and the fact that they can operate at room temperature. In this study, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)-based sensing films were prepared and deposited by spray deposition for the fabrication of gas sensors. For the deposition, various SWCNTs were prepared in deionized water with the addition of specific surfactants, i.e., carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), which act as dispersing agents to create a suitable ink for deposition. This study aims to elucidate the possible differences in the sensing performance of the fabricated devices due to the use of the two different surfactants. To achieve this goal, all the devices were tested versus ethanol (C2 H5 OH), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2 ), and ammonia (NH3 ). The produced devices demonstrated high selectivity towards NH3 and NO2 . The different sensors, prepared with different deposition thicknesses (from 0.51 nm to 18.41 nm), were tested in dry and wet conditions (40% humidity), highlighting an enhanced response as a function of relative humidity. In addition, sensor performance was evaluated at different working temperatures, showing the best performance when heated up to 150 °C. The best sensing conditions we found were against NO2 , sensors with 10 layers of deposition and an operating temperature of 150 °C; in this condition, sensors showed high responses compared those found in the literature (62.5%—SDS-based and 78.6%—CMC-based). Finally, cross-sensitivity measurements showed how the produced sensors are good candidates for the practical and selective detection of NO2 , even in the presence of the most important interfering gases identified, i.e., NH3 . Molecular catalysts based on coordination complexes for the generation of hydrogen via photochemical water splitting exhibit a large versatility and tunability of the catalytic properties through chemical functionalization. In the present work, we report on light-driven hydrogen production in an aqueous solution using a series of cobalt polypyridine complexes as hydrogen evolving catalysts (HECs) in combination with CuInS2@ZnS quantum dots (QDs) as sensitizers, and ascorbate as the electron donor. A peculiar trend in activity has been observed depending on the substituents present on the polypyridine ligand. This trend markedly differs from that previously recorded using [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) as the sensitizer and can be ascribed to different kinetically limiting pathways in the photochemical reaction (viz. protonation kinetics with the ruthenium chromophore, catalyst activation via electron transfer from the QDs in the present system). Hence, this work shows how the electronic effects on light-triggered molecular catalysis are not exclusive features of the catalyst unit but depend on the whole photochemical system. - Abstract
